I hadn’t thought much of my own ancestor until I met Karkat, and Karkat is just a wriggler, so the thought hadn’t really settled until… I met him. I much prefer how he rebelled, but I worry I’ve done something to upset him…” Regarding himself: “What? I try my best to be better than I was the day previous. What else do you want me to say of myself?”

I did what I could for our kind on Beforus, and he did the same on Alternia where the stakes were much damn higher. He thinks he’s a failure. I know he’s probably projecting, and the last thing he wants is to feel like he’s being culled again, but it’d be nice if he let me care for him. Who better?” Regarding himself: “I hated everything about myself for a long time. But I learned I can’t wallow in my own self pity if I want to get shit done.”

I’m still stuck on the somewhat throwaway line in maroon “the rubies that I gave up.” I wanted to make a little more sense of it than a Ruby simply being another red thing. Yes, there's the obvious "rubies are categorized as precious gemstones" and she gave up something "precious" or rubies are one of the most expensive stones in the world, and she gave up something "valuable." but it still felt to surface level for my whirring brain. so I couldn’t help but dig a little and found in some historical accounts, rubies were known to adorn armor for battle due to how they were believed to give the holder “invincibility.” So you could say she gave up that safety, perhaps. Someone who’d protect her. Turns out, those soldiers weren’t far off as rubies are also the second hardest gemstone in the world, after diamonds. Both of which can cut through glass. They’re durable, solid, dependable when choosing stones for a ring or bracelet. They last forever. Maybe that’s what she gave up, a solid dependable relationship or person that could stand the test of time. Other times rubies represent courage, and can allow the holder to go through life without fear. Quite a sad angle, but maybe the serious pursuit of the relationship called for her to seize that courage, but she gave it up, choosing to hide and shy away from things instead of facing them and perhaps that helped lead to their demise. Rubies are also so deeply associated with passion, they’re considered the most emotional gemstone, especially when presented as a gift. You could say she gave up all that raw passion, maybe for something less emotionally driven and more sensible. They’re also known to be associated with the sun, so make of that what you will. I mainly can’t help thinking of the most famous ruby in the world, what most people think of first when thinking of rubies, which is not one single gemstone but a pair of shoes bedazzled with them. Dorothy clicking those iconic Ruby slippers 3 times, chanting theres no place like home so they’d take her there. How Taylor used to call their lips her home, but she gave up the rubies so she can’t click them three times to get home to their lips anymore. How she just mourned two albums ago that she can go anywhere she wants, just not home. maybe that's what she gave up.

It’s such a throw away line at the end of a verse, sung in a thrown away manner as well. and she seems to say in the bridge that they left her. But so much else in the song indicates taylor had little intention of making this a serious relationship or at least trepidation about it. the rubies line as well as the other person “sobbing with [their] head in [their] hands” and how they brought “carnations [they] had thought were roses, that’s us” saying the flowers are an ironic metaphor for their situation, how the other person thought they were deeply in love and committed, as roses tend to insinuate. However taylor laments how she maybe was never so sure, they were always just carnations to her. If they left taylor, perhaps they were partly driven to after taylor giving up on them, and devastated by her not fighting more for them to stay.

Or maybe the rubies are simply just another red thing, after all, in a half-baked song. but all this sure does make it more interesting, don't you think?

Oh, Kyle falling for Kenny definitely.

Listen I looooove Ken fallin' but he can reasonably justify himself through it with "I mean it makes fucking sense he's nice to me and hot and I'm both FUCKING TOUCH AND EMOTIONALLY STARVED so...." his main hindrance is just not wanting to completely fuck up their friendship so he doesn't just launch into asking him out but that's his main struggle.

Kyle on the other hand is a fucking neurotic nightmare of a person. He would catastrophize so hard from every single angle. Because clearly Kenny McCormick could never return such feelings for him because he could have anyone he wants. Gets to be a fun turnaround of Kyle thinking that Kenny extending that kind of offer is charity work. And you have the trope of Ken sleepin' around livin' his best life so Kyle just "clearly this would just be about sex if he said yes but ya know what maybe that's good enough maybe that's all I'm worth anyway". We all know Kyle is plagued with self esteem issues out the wazoo so falling for a tall glass of hillbilly hunk is just gonna ruin him further and plunge him into the pits of despair. And it's so fun to watch the unravel!

Laurent lifts his head with a small sniffle and an inquisitive noise. It makes Damen realize he wasn't listening to him, but nstead of scolding him he decides to wait and pamper him a little more, stroking his spine soothingly and hushing him with soft whispers.

After a couple minutes, he uses his other hand to tilt Laurent's chin up and get a better look at his face. His cheeks and nose are pink and wet, which is a sight Damen gets treated to a lot but one he'll never grow tired of, but his baby blue eyes are still covered by Damen's tie. A part of Damen wishes he could see the regret in them, but the other thinks Laurent looks too lovely like this.

"I said," Damen says, softly, rubbing circles under Laurent's jaw with his thumb, "that the only way you're getting off is on my thigh, baby."

The sound that leaves Laurent's lips is not the sound Damen would expect from someone who just got thoroughly spanked over his knee, but he's not surprised by it. He tries not to smirk when the smallest flick of his wrist has Laurent writhing and sobbing in his lap all over again.

"You brute," Laurent hisses, struggling against his bindings—his own tie, tied around his wrists—and getting nowhere with it. It earns him a second, a third, and a fourth slap on his already very warm and red ass. His hips jump against Damen's leg, rubbing against the towel Damen placed there. He's so hard it has to be painful. "I will—" "Sh, sh, sh," Damen tuts, taking a small break to thread his fingers through Laurent's soft hair. "We still have two meetings left today, sweetheart, and I'm already worried you might not be able to sit all through them without letting my father and everyone in the room realize that you've misbehaved all evening. I wouldn't want to add to that."

Laurent squirms a little more before giving up with a small sigh, and Damen leans down to kiss the top of his head. He stays like this for an entire minute, his lips pressed against Laurent's crown, breathing in the sweet scent of his shampoo.

"Everyone likes my intern so much," Damen says, mostly for himself. "Let's not leave them waiting for too long, yes, sweetheart?"

When a few seconds pass by, and Laurent still doesn't move, Damen lifts his hand again.

There are people out there telling people that the crux of South Africa’s case against Israel is the claim that Israel started bombing Gaza “out of the blue” and “without reason.” And I’m just sitting here like… “did you even watch their opening remarks?” The answer has to be no. Because I explicitly remember hearing South Africa acknowledge Oct. 7th. And I remember them saying that the scale of the violence and death and destruction is unacceptable as a response.

These people are also claiming that South Africa praised Hamas during their testimony and I just have no idea where they are getting this. Did someone tell you this and you’re just uncritically repeating it? Do you lack reading AND listening comprehension? Or is this a purposeful mischaracterization to spread misinformation? Because South Africa literally said that what Hamas did is unacceptable and that it constitutes war crimes, but they are not a state and not a party to the convention and thus they cannot bring case against them.
