the pathologic Kin is largely fictionalized with a created language that takes from multiple sources to be its own, a cosmogony & spirituality that does not correlate to the faiths (mostly Tengrist & Buddhist) practiced by the peoples it takes inspirations from, has customs, mores and roles invented for the purposes of the game, and even just a style of dress that does not resemble any of these peoples', but it is fascinating looking into specifically to me the sigils and see where they come from... watch this:
P2 Layers glyphs take from the mongolian script:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
while the in-game words for Blood, Bones and Nerves are mongolian directly, it is interesting to note that their glyphs do not have a phonetic affiliation to the words (ex. the "Yas" layer of Bones having for glyph the equivalent of the letter F, the "Medrel" layer of Nerves having a glyph the equivalent of the letter È,...)
the leatherworks on the Kayura models', with their uses of angles and extending lines, remind me of the Phags Pa Script (used for Tibetan, Mongolian, Chineses, Uyghur language, and others)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some of the sigils also look either in part or fully inspired by Phags Pa script letters...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some look closer to the mongolian or vagindra (buryat) script
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
looking at the Herb Brides & their concept art, we can see bodypainting that looks like vertical buryat or mongolian script (oh hi (crossed out: Mark) Phags Pa script):

#not sure how much. what's the word. bond? involvement? not experience. closeness? anyone in the team has with any of these cultures#but i recall learning lead writer is indigenous in some way & heavily self-inserts as artemy [like. That's His Face used for#the p1 burakh portrait] so i imagine There Is some knowledge; if not first-hand at least in some other way#& i'm not in the team so i don't know how much Whatever is put into Anything#[ + i've ranted about the treatment of the brides Enough. enough i have]#so i don't have any ground to stand on wrt how i would feel about how these cultures are handled to make the Kin somewhat-hodgepodge.#there is recognizing it is Obviously inspired by real-life cultures [with the words;the alphabet;i look at Kayura i know what i see]#& recognizing it Also is. obviously and greatly imagined. not that weird for you know. a story.#like there is No Turkic/Altaic/Mongolic culture that has a caste of all-women spiritual dancers who place a great importance on nudity#as a reflection of the perfect world and do nothing but dance to bring about the harvest. ykwim...#like neither the Mongols nor the Buryats nor the Tibetans dress the way the Kin does. that's cos the Kin is invented. but they're invented.#.. on wide fundations. ykwim......#Tengrism has a Sky Deity (Tengri) with an earth-goddess *daughter* whereas the kin worship an Earth-Goddess mother of everything#+ a huge bull. Buddhism has its own complete cosmogony & beliefs which from the little I know Vastly Differ from anything the Kin believes#like. yeah. story. but also. [holds myself back from renting about the Brides again] shhh...#neigh (blabbers)#pathologic#pathologic 2

I watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes out of an excess of boredom and unwillingness to do any of the things I actually have to do today, and (a) it really is staggering how attractive Marilyn Monroe is, even when next to Jane Russell; (b) Jane Russell is tall. Not excessively (wikipedia says she was 5'7" and intensely Christian, also surprising) but she's taller than most of her castmates and it shows; and also (c) I found out that it was based on Anita Loos' novel by the same name, which was a thinly-veiled send up of the Roaring 20s, with her writing her contemporaries into the stories. This does make me feel slightly robbed, because I think this film would be even more interesting if it was set in the 20s, America hovering on the cusp of financial ruin and partying with increasing, feverish hope of no tomorrow; Lorelei being aggressively cavalier about everything except having money, and dragging her more sensible, if sarcastic, co-conspirator around Europe with her.

this pisses me off so much bc you people literally hated these girls to the point they were crying on stage and losing all their confidence, they hated their concept and they are also ofc trapped in one of the companies with the worst idol treatment history ever and now you want to talk abt an "redemption arc" ???? when other idol groups can't even hit the right notes and yet still get away with it bc they're young (underage) and pretty ??? the hypocrisy is insane

🔥 dancers I guess lmao
i think fates having an early game dancer is a really neat concept that rev and especially conquest utilize really well! i get the criticism that “dancers are busted and should be mid/late game only” but without azura being there the game would have to be designed a lot differently and things like chapter 10, one of the best maps in fire emblem, would be fundamentally different without her. early game fire emblem is unique due to your lack of resources, so i think giving intsys another stab at incorporating a dancer into that having learned from fates would be really fucking awesome. i love dancers <3
also idk if this is unpopular but everytime i see someone say “i bench [dancer] immediately because their combat sucks and theyre useless” i wanna gouge my eyes out. its one thing if they just dont suit your playstyle like thats super valid!! but saying theyre objectively bad is just. wow! um!!! okaaaay… sorry you struggle with positioning but thats not ninian’s problem actually

Timeloop snippet
Life before life went a little like this: Lucien again, before again was a constant, elbows pressed to the same obsidian bar. His own reflection shining up at him- gold and red and gold, rudely bright among three hundred carefully chosen gentry, every one clad to themed costume in shades of silver and black.   Down that fresh mined, too shining surface, Nesta Archeron as rigid as he was slumped, too-stark collar bone rising out from a lace cloud.   A wary blink, when Lucien turned his back on spinning, dancing crowd, and raised a frothing pink flute of champagne her way in acknowledgement. Slow, a bruise on her wrist laid bare by the motion, she’d tipped a tumbler of whiskey his way.   A second of thought, seeping past numb boredom and growing hatred to ignite: the mark of fingers, a large hand, dug in Nesta Archeron’s arm.   The hideous fucking dress, which, at second look, hid so much of her she might as well not have a shape, a body, at all. Her shining pale face, shadows dark as the bruises oh so carefully made over beneath her flat, grey eyes. Gutted- ash colored- Lucien has seen that gaze burn with the sort of fire that made worlds, free and ferocious and-   And Lucien slid down the bar with all the remaining grace he could muster, came to a stop with a safe seats worth of room between.   She did not look.   Ruinous anger and fractured fucking horror- Lucien swallowed. Opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Nesta interrupted.   “You left behind your drink,” she said, gaze once more locked on the wall behind the bar, “They’ll look.”   Lucien did as he was told. Returned. Sipped champagne it took endless willpower not to gag on, and said, soft beneath the music, just breath lost under a cacophony of noise. “Do you want to leave?”   Back and forth, careful circles never sloshing, Nesta watched the golden liquor in her glass. It smelled like storm clouds- Dawn brewed petrichor, bite like memory itself.   Lucien could not stop himself from trying again. “Day,” he whispered, carefully holding himself away. “Summer. Dawn. Across the sea. Autumn. There are places Illyrians can’t go.”   Places disappearing quickly- Rhysand had a crown and dying empire he planned to make anew.   They wouldn’t all be here, if it weren’t true.   “I think,” Nesta said, set down drink a chime, every motion elegance- strength- it took such fucking strength, to bruise High Fae in a way that stuck- Lucien was going to be sick. “I would like to dance.”

For today’s video, I give you one of the longest standing Christmas Extravaganza traditions: The Virgin Mary and The Virgin Mary Dancers cheering up Santa with their burlesque rendition of “Santa Baby” feat. Sabels, Suspenders, and Stripping. The ‘Nice List’ always was overrated, anyway. Choreo by @cogrobs, Costumes by @bren_bash

"As an ice dancer, and especially as a queer person growing up that didn't know she was queer, seeing different stories represented and different partnering, different types of identities on the ice, would have been very liberating to me."
Kaitlyn Weaver, reacting to the excellent Skate Canada policy that ice dancers or pairs team can now be composed of any two athletes. That’s just wonderful news!

lord help me i'm thinkin about Red Dress from The Grass Dancer again. good god. i can't believe i've seen reviews say her chapter is the worst/most boring. i could not relate less to any experience someone has with this book than if they say some shit like that KRKF
anyways enough about that.
Red Dress is one of those literary characters where you could never get tired of reading about her. if there was an entire book about Red Dress i would read it, but i also admire that she is only one part of the puzzle that is The Grass Dancer-- Grass Dancer wouldn't be Grass Dancer without Red Dress, and Red Dress would not be Red Dress without Grass Dancer.
she fascinates me so much. her as a foil to Mercury Thunder, her descendant who constantly invokes her name with the type of magic she practices, yet Red Dress resents and has no respect for her. both of their magics being born of immense trauma, both used to control and intentionally harm other people, yet the way that magic is presented feels wildly different between the two of them. Mercury does it for selfish reasons, Red Dress does it because it's the only control she can possibly have over her own life.
she is such an immensely tragic figure, too. you just always get this feeling, even from the start of the chapter, that Red Dress is doomed, and the narrative does nothing to change your mind on that. a feeling of immense dread looms over her and her actions. you know her life hangs in a precarious balance, no matter what magic and power she has, and ultimately, she is destroyed by the settler-colonialist machine, and you can't even be surprised by it.
man.
