craft room update under the cut!

I've been struggling with keeping my craft room/wfh office clean for years ever since i moved into my house. Not only am I messy, a given for a free spirit like myself, but I'm also working on multiple projects at a time that cannot be put away or else they will be forgotten, also typical of free spirits. I also dislike commitment such as putting giant nail or screw holes in the walls for shelving and storage, which would have helped with keeping things organized or at least off the floor so I can vacuum up all the threads and dust.

A short while ago I moved the futon sofa bed out to my bedroom (not that it really fit there either) because the futon looked ugly and was gathering messes and dust and I never used it for its purpose. The futon now is a gathering place for pillows and plushies but sometimes I do sit on it to work on my journal or read a bit. So that's a slight improvement than no use at all. And I put a sheet over it so it's cute now.

With the biggest space-waster out of the way, I moved furniture around to make the best use of light from the window and recently purchased a cheap plastic Ikea shelf to hold lightweight bins and such. The aesthetics and feng shui are not perfect, but with determination, I was able to rehome almost all of my art supplies and boxes of projects off the floor where they had been preventing me from vacuuming and reaching the closet door. There are still a couple of trays of miscellaneous junk to sort through and I would like a better place for my recently obtained embroidery supply baskets, but that should be easy to resolve tomorrow. It better be.

The next biggest change was taking all of my booth/table stuff from a giant tupperware and consolidating the merch and signage on a small shelf since I doubt I will sell at a market or artist alley anytime soon. (Maybe at my retirement, but I don't think society will exist in 20 years, or not a society that will be buying my art anyway.) That freed up a lot of floor space as well. The other giant tupperware holds my wigs and I don't have a place for it in the stuffed cosplay closet, so it will just be hanging out in the center of the room as a mini table surface as usual. I also moved my photos and letters to my bedroom closet as they are not technically office or art supplies.

I pulled out some artsy or fashion postcards and stickers to decorate, labeled a few drawers, and placed vases of fake flowers around to help it look prettier as well instead of just utilitarian. Actually the flowers were from my previous PC desk setups, I never even put them away, lol.

The last few things on my list - add a cute curtain, find a home for the last few baskets I already mentioned and add more artwork to the wall as inspirations. And maybe hang up one small decorative shelf... if I can make that commitment lol. Anyway, I'm really happy that I finally pulled through and finished tidying up, you know, after years of being stressed out by my mess and unable to find anything and buying multiples I didn't need lmao. Now I'm excited to finish my sewing projects and work on new stuff, and I smile when I look at the semi-organized bins and rainbow colors of fabrics and flowers. Gotta celebrate the small wins in this evil and miserable world!

📷 Exclusive: Lacoste’s first-ever musical collaboration is with Bruno Mars:

Lacoste has partnered with Bruno Mars (AKA Ricky Regal, the singer’s designer alter ego) on a 1970s-inspired collection.

Storied French brand Lacoste is no stranger to excellent collaborations. Case in point: over the course of the past few years it has partnered with National Geographic, streetwear giant Supreme on two logo-heavy collections and Tyler, The Creator on a range of pastel-hued gear. What’s more, it has a range of sneaker hook-ups under its belt, with the likes of Concepts and Foot Patrol.

Now, for the first time ever, the Paris-based brand, which first saw the light of day in 1933, has ventured into the world of music and has partnered with Bruno Mars, under his new guise of Ricky Regal. The pair have also enlisted singer Anderson Paak for the campaign, who this week announced that he and Mars used lockdown to work on a collaborative album, under the band name Silk Sonic.

"Uptown Funk" crooner Mars has worked with Lacoste's creative director, Louise Trotter, on a range of apparel that bridges his uptempo and enigmatic personality with Lacoste’s distinct sportswear. Spanning ready-to-wear apparel, footwear and accessories, the collection is reflective of Mars' on-stage style, which takes its cue from the 1970s and sees him don aviator shades, bell-bottom slacks and crushed velvet galore.

Loose-fitting, geometrically patterned and tie-dyed shirts and velvet, wide-collared tracksuits in shades of mustard yellow, petrol blue, eggplant purple and coral red pack a punch of colour. And don't worry, there's a series of polo shirts up for grabs (obviously). In addition, Trotter and Mars have worked together to create uber-comfortable WFH-ready velvet shorts, wide-legged trousers and, of course, there's a pair of dual-branded gold aviators on offer. 

Of the collection Trotter said, "Collaborating with Bruno and entering into his unique world has been a great adventure. He has a very clear vision and is obsessive with every detail. From concept to fittings, there wasn’t a single aspect that he was not fully involved. With Ricky Regal x Lacoste, Bruno has created a luxury sportswear brand that bridges the Lacoste sportswear heritage and his own seductive style."

Mars said the experience designing was liberating: "I’ve been very fortunate to have been asked to do collaborations in the past, but it always came with guidelines. Lacoste was the first and only brand that said, ‘Bruno, we want you to make this truly yours.’ The respect of such creative freedom coming from a heritage fashion house was an honour.”

The first Lacoste x Ricky Regal collection will launch on 5 March 2021 through 18 exclusive retailers and will be available from 8 March 2021 at selected Lacoste stores and at lacoste.com.

Fendi - spring 2021

Sure, “iso, but do it fashion” is as tired as dalgona coffee closeups, but Fendi’s spring 2021 presentation had both conceptual depth and meticulous execution to transcend any association with fluffy coffee or those pillow challenges, for that matter.

Inspired by bed linens, the presentation featured the elevated loungewear you’d easily conjure, as well as dreamlike juxtapositions that obscure the time of day or even the season, much like our collective experience of this long week, or month, or was it just a day?

Fendi’s show also reflected other current issues. The casting (somewhat) expanded diversity in terms of body size and age, in addition to representing more global origins than the narrow casting historically seen on European runways. The natural hues and materials reflected our environmental crisis. No, it didn’t resolve any of these challenges, but it didn’t exploit them as empty clickbait the way one may suggest Maria Grazia Chiuri had treated feminism at Dior.

The clothes ranged from practical WFH looks to dreamy fantasies of communal celebrations or other occasions for formal clothes. The duvet stole that closed the show crystallized our current options and preferences. It combined humor with optimism to show us what we long for and ultimately how we’re living now. This aspirational reflection of the zeitgeist is what I love most about fashion, and I don’t mind the bags, either.

My goal with any of my fashion and design posts has always been to inspire, not to present unrealistic expectations of how to dress or live, but to aspire to live as beautifully as you can. For me, now more than ever, it’s about the little things, like my morning coffee, or listening to a favorite record I haven't heard in awhile. Now that a majority of us are not able to work (me), or working from home (trying to), the office, or whatever you can carve out in your space to work, has become a huge necessity.
