Bribery

Ely had never felt more pressure than when she tried to measure up to 'acceptable' in the O'hteco sisters' eyes. She was bravely reaching out, with a touch of bribery, to see if she could strengthen what little of a bond she had with the ladies.

Miranda was the easiest to come up with ideas for some little gifts (bribes) to go with her letter, but Ely worried that Mir might reject some of the more feminine traditions that seemed to go with weddings. Especially if West and Joha had a hand in planning, there was bound to be at least one or two parts that Mir would not be too thrilled with. That depended on how much they adhered to anything traditional.

The thought of who she could possibly have standing up at the front of the ceremony with her, if East went along with his plan of an 'entourage' on either side of them, was another strong point of stress for the blonde. She didn't even know if her own sister would be attending. Seri was on Ely's list of 'send letter and bribes to' for the day.

Along with some high-end paints and brushes, and a little box of fresh La Noscean oranges, Ely tucked three bundles of fabric samples and Miranda's note together into one package.

Each O'hteco woman was receiving a personalized request for input on wedding ideas, as well as which colour and type of dress fabric they preferred if they had dresses made for them. She made sure to mention that the ceremony would likely be held in a warm place.

Mir's note was the most sappy, if it could really be called that. Ely expressed her gratefulness over how Miranda always seemed to be there in group moment's where Ely had been ready to implode.

In the little package to the O'hteco that Ely was most nervous around, she lovingly bundled two blends of fancy tea leaves and a box of fresh fruit tarts. West's note contained a bit more detailed discussion of potential venues for the reception, since Elysica didn't want the O'hteco family, or any other guests, to have to host the food, drinks, or security. Did they need security? She didn't know.

While the ceremony was going to be at East's first choice of spot, the reception was still up in the air as to where they'd go. Somewhere with gardens and flowers still appealed most to Ely.

Joha's letter contained good deal more discussion about hair and makeup than any of the others and Ely included a kit with a rainbow selection of wearable glitters and a small collection of satin flower and pink sparkly hair accessories. Both West and Joha received the same fabric samples as Miranda.

Lastly, Ely wrote and re-wrote a letter to her twin until it seemed perfect. Not too much touchy-feely stuff while still making it clear that it would mean the world to her if Seri would be at the wedding. She knew Seri would be angry no matter what, but this was the first step to re-opening up dialogue about Ely and East being together. While she did tuck the last bundle of fabric samples in with it, she didn't know if Seri would even be open to the idea of standing in front of people and wearing a dress. Very unlikely. At the moment, just having her sister in attendance would be more than enough for her.

It was maybe a bit underhanded to include a package of their favourite foods they had splurged on and shared as younger girls in their refugee tent, but anything that would tug on Seri's heartstrings had to be attempted.

Elysica mailed out the four packages and immediately began to worry that she had said or done something wrong for any one of the ladies who'd be shortly receiving their mail. Instead of pacing and stressing in the apartment for the rest of the day, she went into work to throw herself into some massage oil research. Everything would work out somehow. It just had to.

Joha is a young woman who is both exactly where she wants to be in life and utterly lost in adulthood all at once. Issues with abandonment, family, and self-esteem abound and she often wears her makeup and mean-girl-cheerleader facade as protection from the rest of the world. Jo can be flighty, self-centered, and shallow but deep down has a big heart–for those who can actually capture her interest. She’s used to not being taken seriously, often fueling it with a penchant for childish pranks. In an attempt to prove she’s not a child, Joha has recently opened her own salon business, Storybook Aesthetics, offering makeup, hair styling, and nail services, as well as personal shopping and fashion consultation. A recent return to schooling is a new constraint on her schedule but both the burgeoning business and renewed lessons are a high priority for this driven young woman.
