Send a 👫and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship

I hope it’s not too weird to be answering both of your asks in one post, but for some reason it made a certain sense to me.  In the vein of a 5 + 1 format… here’s 4 + 1 + 4, instead, featuring songs from Club Crescent playlists.

Prompt 19: Radiant

Who: Zedyr Guldarensyn, Defiant Bride, Nandin Shulam

What: Songs and memories from Club Crescent.

Where: The club itself, and elsewhere.

When: Spanning from more than two years back to the present day.

Content notes: Alcohol, depression, deep water metaphors, relationships, sexuality. (The +1 song link is not particularly work-safe.)

1) I’m on my feet, I’m on the floor, I’m good to go

The bright lights of the dance floor were equal parts exhilarating and overstimulating, and stepping out of the club into the cool quiet of the atrium was a relief that only came from contrast. Later, Zedyr would think about that first night and how that same relief had repeated so often -- both of them half-lost in the music and the heat, troubles washing away into exhaustion, leaving them drawn into calm alignment.  

2) Come stand a little bit closer

He loved how Defiant tucked against him -- how she fit just so under his arm. Even after all this time, after all the thousands of small touches, some part of him still thrilled at it, rocked sideways by the effervescent rush each time he could brush his fingers against her arm, or take her hand, and see her smile from it.

3) One breath after another

It still didn’t feel real, sometimes -- the whole courtship thing: the dates and the letters and the slow, tentative spiral into

I love you

. That wasn’t how he’d ever thought a relationship would go, let alone continue through all the times he found himself unmoored and drifting. But then they would emerge again, shake themselves free and catch their breath -- dive in again.

4) Drown me in love

There was nothing like the way his mind went quiet in this singular space, this exhilarant focus -- the world narrowed to pulse-thrum, cool scales, warm skin, and her fingers in his hair.

+ 1) I’m a little tipsy, play along with me

Zedyr sat in a bathroom stall with his burning face clutched in his hands, the music drumming through the walls almost as hard as his heart was pounding. The last thing they needed was for it to be this obvious where his head was -- and the last thing he needed was to say something foolish because of it.

4) It has a sound that you can follow

Nandin always seemed to have a kind of loose abandon in the way she danced -- an energy threaded through with grim determination, buoyed by the plentiful drinks that sparkled in her hand. Zedyr, sober as ever, could never quite keep up -- couldn’t quite put down the edge of worry enough to laugh along.

3) Photosynthesize and drink up the sunrise

The scent of growing things trailed after her -- lavender, and all the rest. It spoke of Nandin’s skill, her passion -- of being at home in field and garden. Sometimes it caught Zedyr off guard, like hearing a familiar song in a different language. Other times, it knocked the floor out from under him, leaving him staggering under a sudden, bewildering weight.

2) Then crash and burn, you’re not alone

He wished he could just -- open his godsdamned mouth, for once. Never was one of his talents. Instead, he choked -- on the words that wouldn’t quite form, on the wrenching feeling in his chest each time he saw Nandin withdraw into herself. On how he never could figure out how to say:

I want to be here. Want you to want to be here.

On the feeling that he was the last person who should be trying to relieve another person’s melancholy, no matter how badly he wanted to try.

1) Separate’s always better when there’s feelings involved

Zedyr dragged himself out of bed, pushed himself through washing his face, changing his clothes. Dragged himself out to the balcony, and watched the storm roll through. While the rain pelted down, he sorted through the memories -- the Starlight party and the mistletoe and getting Nandin tucked securely into bed. Defiant dozing with her head in his lap while they talked and… skirted the edges of something. Nandin and Defiant laughing hard together on the little mezzanine bar, drunk as anything. The yellow flowers in Nandin’s hair as they swirled over the floor at the gala. The near-miss of her shoulder at his hip as she hurried past -- yet another contact he’d dodged. 

He let himself smile at the softness, in spite of the rest, but all of it he tucked away. It would all still be there, but at least this way he was less likely to trip over it when everyone was just there to dance.

How tall is Nandin? Also, Zedyr is probably half again as wide as that silhouette, which probably contributes.

Zedyr, short for a roegadyn, is 7 fulms tall and not an ilm more.

For SOME REASON im surprised there isn’t a bigger difference!! but maybe bc nans model in game is smaller, so maybe thats affecting my perception

The Arcane Circle invites one and all to join their annual Grand Magus Gala and Grand Magus Tournament! 

On the night of October 19th, 7PM EDT, we invite all of you ghosts, goblins and ghouls to join us for an evening of celebration in a most spine tingling way! The Arcane Circle is proud to announce our biennial bash, this one in homage to the All Saint’s Wake! Come dressed as your favorite spooky specter, or just to the nines, and enjoy an evening of revelry! 

Among the evening’s festivities will be the aforementioned costume contest, culminating in prizes for the best dressed in several categories. Participate in our spooky story contest for fun and prizes! Meet and greet the contestants for the All Saint’s Bash, to be held one week after the Monster Mash. Dance the night away with those you love, or just met, with music chosen specially by our live DJ,  and enjoy the hospitality and home of the Arcane Circle.

For those who prefer to celebrate with spellcraft than brewcraft, fret not! We shall also be hosting our Magus Tournament: ‘All Saint’s Bash’ a week after the jubilee. We welcome all those who traverse Hydaelyn far and wide, to come and display their talents for the arcane arts through one-on-one duels. Sparks will fly! Lightning will Strike! Until only one victor is left standing. The winner shall receive the recognition from the Arcane Circle as the Grand Magus for this year, as well as a One Million Gil prize.  Hosts: The Arcane Circle.

Festivities for the Monster Mash:

Costume Contest: In good Halloween fashion, we’ll be hosting a costume contest! We will allow both IC and OOC costumes; such as Bismark, Sans, Titania, and Taako--y’know, from TV? 

Since we are allowing both IC and OOc costumes, there will be Two Winners! The award will be announced closure to the first event.

In between the judging for the Costume Contest, we will also be hosting a Scary Story Telling contest!

Please keep your story at least 3-5 posts, maximum text the chat box will allow. Make sure to also put your posts in /yell!

Also, if your story has any gory bits, please add an ooc warning to the story!

The night will also host an open dance floor and spooky, thematic music, and devilish drinks!

For the All Saint’s Bash.

If you are interested in participating, please be aware that you must you aether during the battle. Hand-to-hand combat, ranged weapons, and melee weapons are not permitted. For those who’s foci is a rapier, we do ask that you focus on using magic during the fight, and not the sword itself. We do permit most types of magic: White and Black magic are allowed only if you mask either as legal magic, and those who have created their own school of magic are allowed as well--so long as it overall fits with lore. Void Magic, Necromancy, and anything deemed ‘Evil’ is not permitted. If you are unsure if your type of magic is allowed, you can contact  Meatjelly (Sin)#0697

Most admirable quality: “She’s brave. Even though she seems a bit on the shy side, and she goes out of her area of comfort, she puts herself out there and faces language and cultural differences every day. I know what a culture shock it can be here in Eorzea, but our situations are entirely disparate. She must have been through a lot to get here, and now is learning a new language on top of that.”Most attractive physical feature: “I really love her fashion choices. It is easy to shy away from variety and stay in a rut, especially if your features are a little more unusual - I know this first hand. To Madam Admiah Kreiston, care of the Sable Tree Company, be these things delivered, and with them the Starlight wishes of the family Ledigne. 

Right worthy madam, I greet you well, hoping to hear of your good health and all the Sable Tree people's welfare. I write to let you wit that we have received your shipment and, finding all its contents of excellent make and just as ordered, distributed them to the farms in preparation for an early start in the spring; and, having concluded this first business, we would offer you another of a slightly more exotic sort.

The Alpine Greening Institute has recently had the honor of adding another consulting botanist to our roster, one Miss Nandin Shulam of the Collegia Arcanum, who on hearing of our hopes to import the Satzuma Orange from the Far East and test its hardiness against our alpine clime, volunteered to oversee the botanical side of the project. Whether we wish to import seeds, seedlings, or live grafts, I leave to Miss Nandin to decide; but as the latter two require quick and controlled transport, I thought your Company the perfect partner, as you not only deal in the alchemicals her project will require but have connections to importers, one of which I pray may be able to bring the Satzumas over as honored and coddled guests. I therefore entreat you, if this proposal piques your interest, to consult with Miss Nandin herself at the enclosed address, and of course to write to me with any concerns or difficulties you may have. I have nursed this silly dream, of adding citrus to our Ishgardian walled orchards, for more than one Heavensturn, and am thus eager to do whatever I can to assist in welcoming young green scions to Eorzea.

Join us in the heart of the mysterious Sylphlands, in the aether-charged night, to witness a clash of magical prowess and power in a fight between some of the realm’s finest magic-users! Who will leave as the winner, and take home the title of the new Grand Magus?

There’s but a few scant places left for people to take up the challenge of this magical tournament, yet there’s still time! Tournament participants must fight using only aether, without use of weapons at all, and must be prepared to conceal Black or White magic usage. Immoral and ‘evil’ magic, (void magic, necromancy) is strictly forbidden.

“Today’s lecture is about learning to forage wild herbs; how to find them and safely gather them. With the permission of the Botany Guild and the Wood Wailers, we will be venturing into The Shroud and gathering four different materials--herbs, roots, windlight seeds--that can be used in creating potions, salves, teas, for healing wounds and building a stronger foundation against disease. The Shroud is a great place to gather medicinal herbs, however as with poaching, one should be aware of how much you take from the forest.”

“Remember; you are with living, breathing beings--and I do not just mean the peculiar nature of The Shroud itself. Flowers, herbs, trees, even weeds--these are all living beings. Enter their spaces with care; only take from those who grow with abundance, and only take what you need, as over-harvesting can decimate a local herb population.” 

“You share the world with the plants around you; respect their domain, take only what you need, and leave these spaces and beautiful as you found them.”

This past Saturday, Nandin Shulam invited members of The Arcane Circle and friends for another lecture, all on the nature of foraging herbs, weeds, roots, and light-seeds. Instead of hosting this event within the Botany Guild itself, Nandin took everyone on a trip through the Central Shroud, where they were able to experience foraging first-hand.

In the first series of lessons, Nandin Shulam invited members of the Arcane Circle to the Botany Guild, where she gave a small lecture on the three main principles in identifying the use of plants. The gathering then split off into three groups, performing small tasks for the Guild in preparation for the oncoming cold weather. With everything completed; herbs ready for drying, bulbs safely stored for spring, and plants ready for shipment, everyone left with stronger connections to fellow guild members and to the earth itself.
