I was very excited to join the Neverafter zine for d20 zine jam, but I must admit I rushed it a bit in the end.
For this zine I picked The Wild Swans story told by H.C. Anderson to make a character for the Witches, Warriors and Wolves: a d20 Neverafter zine !!
It was fun to imagine how this character would have suffered in a fucked up version of her story (which was already pretty gloomy) and the mistakes she might have made for the worse : P

My art submission for the First edition of Pakige. (The Zine is in black and white so there was never a color version of this.) I wanted to draw mid-curse-transformation.
AU where Rintarou is cursed to turn into a Swan on the full moon but he does his best to uphold his duties as a swordsman anyway.

AU Tim wereswan
ok so you know how swans are assholes?
let Tim in you Swan au be the biggest jerk he can be when a swan, chasing people well honking bc he feel like it levels of asshole
Let Tim be like that one Untitled Goose Game, but as a swan. Let him threaten people with a knife, try to bite them, set shit on fire (how he accomplishes it without hands???), honk LOUDLY at people, and then pretend to be innocent as he glides across lakes/ponds.
He should be allowed to embrace his swan nature when he's a swan

Not really that much of a hot take but most ballet plays are monsterfucker stories
You can't tell me men falling madly in love with the first wereswan/vengeful ghost/fae/cursed doll (robots weren't a thing yet) they see is not severe monsterfucking yet every time you try to bring this up to ballet people they go in full denial
#i can and will elaborate if asked#ballet#exophilia#I also think we need to go back a bit to those male human/female monster romances#they slapped severely#give me more men seeing some really fucked up hot girl and going 'I guess she has my full devotion now'

Continuing my Monster School idea, what's a school without teachers and staff?
These are obviously not ALL the staff and some of their designs are potentially subject to change, but these are the ones I wanted to showcase first, mainly consisting of the core curriculum teachers and a pair that I just happen to like a lot.
Headmaster Edward Winters: The first, last and only headmaster of the school. He was headmaster of the school since its founding, but he died of old age somewhere along the line. Refusing to abandon his students, Headmaster Winters remained in the school as a ghost, and has no intention of passing on to the next life. He's a friendly guy, if a little scatterbrained from old age.
Professor Vladimir Ozkan: A vampire (specifically a Strigoi) who teaches mathematics at the academy, as a nod to how vampires are said to be good with numbers. Like most math teachers, he's tough but fair and generally tends to be one of the more level-headed members of the faculty.
Professor Aldrich Wiltshire: A lich who teaches history. He was chosen as the history teacher because, as an immortal lich, he was there to see a lot of historical events throughout the years. That said, since liches tend not to be the most morally upstanding creatures, Professor Wiltshire's views on history tend to be a bit more... warped.
Professor Cassandra Birgitta: A witch who teaches magic at the school. Like most witches, she specializes in potions, but she teaches all sorts of magic to her students, as all monsters and even some humans have magical potential. I was unsure as to whether or not I wanted to make her green, but it felt wrong to give her a "normal" skin tone.
Professor Briar Wood: Hey now, this guy looks familiar! Yes, I finally figured out what to do with Briar! If you're unfamiliar, Briar's an OC I made on a whim a while ago. He's a faerie and yes, he is, in fact, a man. He's the literature teacher, because fairy tales! Don't let the seemingly gentle look on his face fool you, he's a petty asshole.
Coach Finnian Svan: The physical education teacher of the school. He's a "wereswan", basically a human cursed to become a swan on the full moon. He's a pretty typical gym teacher, just kind of a big muscular tough guy with a heart of hold.
Professor Roswell: That's not his real name, but no one who isn't fluent in Zeta Reticulan can pronounce his actual name. He's the science teacher and he's a Zeta Reticulan ("Grey" alien). He's a bit of a mystery, even among the other staff members. He mostly keeps to himself.
Professor Proteus Metamorphosis: A mimic who teaches his students how to disguise themselves, be it using their natural abilities or more practical skills. After all, disguise is a necessary ability when the world doesn't approve of your existence. This isn't his real form, or even his most common form; like all mimics, he's a shapeshifter who can change his appearance at will.
Professor Cordelia Fontaine: A mermaid who teaches music at the school. I like to think she and Coach Svan have a thing going on. Her "hair" is actually a series of gill filaments (I was inspired by a mix of The Spiderwick Chronicles and axolotl gills). I'm not entirely satisfied with her colors or her fish tail.
Nurse Miasma: The mysterious school nurse. She always dresses like a plague doctor, though no one knows if she's a monster or a human under that mask. No one has ever seen her without her mask, and some doubt that it's a mask at all. Despite her extremely spooky appearance and behavior, she's a good person and a good nurse, and she genuinely cares about her patients.

I mean, let's be honest - there's not really that much practical difference. Big, strong, murderous fowl.
(I remember even back reading Anita Blake (before it went entire off the tracks) and wondering if the author had ever met a swan? She made her wereswans all "oh dear we are weak, vulnerable victim animals. Come on. You got wereswans? You got a biker gang or similar.)
Many young wizards have taken to transmuting swans into humans and marrying them. One day, you are lucky enough to find a swan in the wild, and without hesitating, you turn it into a beautiful lady. Unfortunately, that ‘swan’, was a goose. You have just given a goose a human form.

Hey, anyone want to support the existence of some new anthologies?
There's one about were things that are not wolves, and one about pirates, and one that's a neat-sounding shared-world anthology. and they won't exist if the Kickstarter doesn't get funded.
I like Zombies Need Brains-- one of their anthologies was my first pro sale and also my first introduction to having a Proper Line Edit, which showed me just how good my writing could be. There's not quite two weeks until the Kickstarter is over and they're not even halfway there; anyone want to drop some money on a cool anthology? If they're anything like the one I was in, they're going to be good stories. (Also I'm writing a story about wereswans and I'd really like to be able to submit it for consideration.)
It ranges from $7 for an electronic copy of one of the anthologies to $60 for paperback copies of all three. (And higher things for more anthologies or other rewards.) d really like to have somewhere to submit it to.)
You can visit the Kickstarter here.

I saw that you already have a monster AU, but consider: Werecreature AU. What sort of unique creature would everyone turn into?
Joey Drew - Weregoat (Myotragus), looks like Satan himself has crawled out of hell to cause trouble. That's not an exaggeration, as a goat Joey is massive and pretty damn mischievous to the point it borders on malicious. Henry has to keep a close eye on him because Joey will start fights for fun.
Henry Stein - Werewolf (Eastern wolf), he's not the largest of the wolves in the studio, but he's certainly the one that keeps things in check. His calm demeanor making him a suitable mediator between the other wolves in the studio.
Sammy Lawrence - Wereram (Rambouillet sheep), he's the largest of the flock which is fitting since he's the head of a department full of weresheep.
Jack Fain - Weresheep (Awassi sheep). His horns aren't defined enough to be called a wereram, which is unusual for the breed of sheep he turns into.
Susie Campbell - Werebird (Harpy eagle), she's a very beautiful creature to behold but also easy to aggravate. Best not upset a vindictive eagle with sharp beak and talons.
Norman Polk - Weregator (American alligator), he's absolutely massive and highly aggressive when hungry. Its unwise to disturb him unless he's eaten after shifting.
Allison Pendle - Werebird (Bearded vulture), even as a werebird she's very attentive and intelligent. She also has a better handle of her temper than most of the other werecreatures. Seems to enjoy following Tom around while in this form, and will sometimes bring him scraps of her meals as a means to sooth him.
Thomas Connors - Werewolf (Red wolf), a temperamental no-nonsense wolf that makes sure to keep others in line if Henry isn't able to keep the peace. He's the largest wolf and not even a missing limb can make him back off from a dispute.
Wally Franks - Werecayote (Urban coyote), despite not being a wolf he runs with the Studio's pack. A good thing too because otherwise no one would be able to stop him eating out of the trash.
Shawn Flynn - Weremonkey (Capuchin monkey), he's loud and likes keeping his hands busy. Not much of a change from the usual. Weremonkeys are among the most intelligent werecreatures, so Shawn's shift only slightly increases his emotional responses.
Grant Cohen - Werebee (Africanized bee), considered one of the more aggressive and dangerous werecreatures in the studio. It's mandatory for Grant to be locked up during the full moon because he lacks all control as a werebee.
Buddy Lewek - Werewolf (Eurasian wolf), the pup of the pack and smallest due to being much younger than the other wolves. Buddy has a lot to learn about his werewolf nature. Thankfully he's as harmless as a skittish puppy.
Dot - Werebird (Secretarybird), she's very nimble and elegant. One of the fastest birds in the studio and also a quick thinker. Its not uncommon to see her hanging around Buddy during the full moon, but it is quite funny to see her outpace the poor pup.
Abby Lambert - Weredog (Old English Sheepdog), herding rowdy artists by day and rowdy assorted werecreatures by the night if the full moon, Mrs. Lambert sure needs a break...
Bertrum Piedmont - Werecephalopod (Giant Pacific octopus), his transformation is among the most painful and disturbing ones. It's best not to bother him during the full moon unless you're ready to handle his volatile temper and many muscular limbs.
Lacie Benton - Weremonkey (Mandrill), the unnoficial guard/caretaker of Bertrum's werecreature form during the full moon. Her own ornery temper and lack of patience for his tantrums keeps him in check, plus she can still work on her projects due to her higher intellect as a type of ape creature.
Emma LaMonte - Wereswan (Mute swan), she's beautiful and graceful but also highly aggressive. The bathroom she claimed for herself is completely off limits during the full moon, and anyone idiotic enough to try to encroach on her territory will definitely regret getting on her shit list...
