fma 03 TV ending thoughts
finished rewatching FMA 03 for the first time in about 8 years today
FMA 03 was the first anime I ever properly got into, all the way back in 2015, so it’s one I have a ton of feelings about. Unfortunately for various reasons at the time my only way of watching the show was DVDs from the library, which meant I never got a chance to watch Conqueror of Shamballa. Instead I pieced together whatever desperate fragments of plot summaries I could find, but there was always this lingering, unsatisfying sense of unfinished business and heartbreak that i never got to see the elrics reunite
Eventually I got interested in other stuff and forgot about FMA, so I still haven’t seen Shamballa to this day (I will though. Soon). I read the manga and watched Brotherhood intermittently, and I enjoyed it, but it didn’t scratch the itch 03 left. Something about it’s more straightforwardly happy ending rang hollow to me.
Anyway, when I rewatched 03 recently I found my love for it largely vindicated, and even deepened. Arcs that felt meandering gained a little bit more clarity knowing the big picture, and I really loved the shows emphasis on character and its melancholy tone instead of epic shounen battles.
There are aspects I think are awkwardly handled – I don’t feel like the writers knew entirely what to do with the Greed arc – but for the most part I really enjoyed it. It’s messy, but in the way that anything dealing with really interesting ideas that can’t be confined to a 51-episode anime has to be – the Homunculi alone have so much potential.
However, there was one thing that sticks unsatisfyingly in my mind – the ending. Now, to be fair, it’s clear to me now that you can’t really judge 03s ending independent of Shamballa. Not having seen 03 for 8 years, not having actually seen Shamballa ever, and also not being able to cope with ambiguity well at that age had drawn a vastly sharper line between the two than I ever remembered.
03’s TV ending is so obviously, optimistically gesturing towards a continuation. At the time I overly-literally misread this open-endedness, even knowing full well that Shamballa existed. I had this weird mindset of ‘If I don’t see them reunite, it doesn’t happen’. But watching it now, it’s very clear the intent of the ending is to establish that Ed and Al will meet again – even if Shamballa had never seen the light of day.
But it leaves me with weird feelings about the TV ending nonetheless. It has its flaws – not giving enough space to key emotional beats, a final episode that feels like it speeds directly past the climax to an epilogue without a strong sense of denouement.
All the plot beats themselves are fine imo. I think the reveals about the alternate world or the souls of the dead as fuel for alchemy are really thematically rich, the small-scale confrontation between Ed and Dante and its accompanying battle of ideals is great, and there’s a kindve sense of melancholy and dread as we descend towards our finale in the ruins of a dead city. But I think there’s something a bit off about the pacing of these beats and the framing.
A better version of the 03 ending for me would look basically identical on a Wikipedia plot summary. But I think it would emphasise what to me feel like the core strengths of 03s interpretation of Fullmetal Alchemist – the character drama, the emotion, the existential melancholy, the deep brotherly love Ed and Al have for each other but also the weight of all the horrors they’ve endured, the bitter truth of a world where equivalent exchange is not absolute versus these boys’ ideals.
This feels like where 03 was heading. And of course, it’s really not that far off. But I dunno, I feel like the emotion of Al resurrecting Ed, and then Ed sacrificing himself in turn isn’t given the space it so desperately needs. And this too would be fine if 03 was willing to sit with the ambiguity, I think, but after quickly dispensing with the necessary sacrifices it then proceeds to a pretty optimistic ending that basically flat-out assures us everything will be OK.
It’s funny, because I found it so unbearably sad when I first watched it (granted, amplified by the IRL sadness of not being able to watch Shamballa), but now I think it’s not angsty enough? these children should never know happiness (kidding. a little)
BUT with all that said – obviously I am missing out on the actual proper ending not watching Shamballa so!!! We will see how that final piece of the puzzle slots in. tldr is that fma 03 is not really a complete ending in itself anyway but i underestimated how much so

Behind the scenes of Game of Thrones season 8: curiosities behind the camera
Behind the great success of TV
I didn't watch game of Thrones as soon as the series debuted. I went to make the decision for a marathon before season six premiered because it would be quite complex on my part not to do that. However, despite always being impressed with the technical capacity of the series, as well as the performance of some actors, the drama was never one of my favorites. I sincerely prefer to see three episodes of Veep in sequence than those movie episodes that game of Thrones has been presenting in its last sighs.
However, I would be cynical with you, the reader, to say that the success of the series does not fascinate me. After all, it is not every year that we have something like this. The last time was with Breaking Bad, but that has not become the worldwide phenomenon that Game it certainly is today. Perhaps we could draw parallels with Lost, but television and society in 2019 are not the same as in 2010, for better or for worse.
Therefore, the Series Mix decided to build a column Backstage quite different from what we traditionally do. It is clear that the lack of information behind the scenes affected our decision. However, we love a challenge.
Continues after advertising

That's why I invite you to read our work this week. Also remembering that we want your comments, criticisms and suggestions for the next columns.

In the rank of one of the most popular series of the decade, game of Thrones it also attracted the interest of some rather peculiar advertisers. So much so that even before the eighth season opens, the Ashley Madison conducted a survey whose main objective was to find out which characters in the series aroused the most interest from users in committing adultery. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) was chosen by both men and women if they were able to jump over the fence.
The justification, according to the company, is that the character's sexuality has been more explored since the beginning of the series. Whether by appearing completely naked, or by the various sex scenes. Ashley Madison listened to 1,011 Brazilian users of the site, on March 20 and 21. The company, it is worth mentioning, is a dating site online that proposes its user to have an extramarital affair.
Women's favorites:
Daenerys Targaryen: 20% Jaime Lannister: 12% Robb Stark: 12% Jon Snow: 8% Tyrion Lannister: 8% Davos Seaworth: 8% Cersei Lannister: 4% Ned Stark: 4% Khal Drogo: 4%
Men's favorites:
Daenerys Targaryen: 24% Sansa Stark: 11% Davos Seaworth: 9% Jon Snow: 7% Cersei Lannister: 7% Catelyn Stark: 6.5% Robb Stark: 4% Margaery Tyrell: 3.5% Jaime Lannister: 3% Tyrion Lannister: 2.5%
Dragons are adopted

Have you ever stopped to think about the impact that Daenerys dragons would have on the environment? The prestigious Mathematical Modeling Contest (or MCM in the original), held by a college in the state of Maryland, wanted to answer that question. In a 23-page report, one of the groups began by talking about the caloric needs of dragons (which would be in the millions a day), as well as their rate of growth.
Next, the researchers identified the area that would be needed for the animals' metabolic needs and whether they would be sustainable. The result was that a single dragon would need 1789x cows, in which x means the minimum number of cows to survive in a single day. In addition, it was said that almost eight hectares of cows would be devoured per day.
So, as cute as they may seem, raising Daenerys' dragons doesn't seem sustainable.
The Voice of the People
How Series Finale of the series scheduled for next Sunday, the big question that is expected to be answered is: who will get the Iron Throne. The character
When analyzing the success of a series, it would be naive to think that your audience is the only factor that contributes to the profit that a channel has on your product. The Good Place continues on the air at NBC due to its huge success on streaming of the broadcaster. Besides that, Nashville managed to generate a very interesting income margin for ABC at the time, from the sales of its songs on iTunes.
With game of Thrones is no different. According to a survey carried out by the Cuponomia, portal that gathers offers and discount coupons from e-commerce, shows that in the month of April, demand online by shirts in the series increased by 105%, among Brazilian users, compared to last month. Searches for mugs with the themes of epic drama grew even more after the launch of the new season, with an increase of approximately 200% in searches for e-commerce.
Quickie
According to HBO, the episodes of the eighth season were the ones that took the longest to complete in the entire series. On average, it took 42 weeks of post-production, while the seventh year needed 30 weeks and the sixth season needed 24 weeks to get ready.
In short
It is true that our column looks like executive notes, in highlighting why your product worked. It could also be sampling the social and economic impact of a television series. However, that was not our intention. We want to present something interesting, delicious and enriching that makes the fan see beyond literature; of passion and popular culture. The impact of game of Thrones It is huge. It is not limited to the television universe. It spills over even into the clothing market.
I confess that I learned a lot, as always, with this work. The research of Ashley Madison stating that 9% of Brazilians would have an extramarital affair with Davos Seaworth is fascinating. I would even say that it deserves a sociological study.
In addition, we highlight one of the reasons why the recent turnaround involving Daenerys has displeased fans so much. They wanted a round ending with Dany sitting on the throne next to Jon Snow. Thus, we can only wait for Series Finale in game of Thrones in the next Sunday.
Thank you very much for the company this week. Remembering, then, that next time we will talk about the Backstage in Hawaii Five-0. I hope you guys!
