It had taken some time for Itachi to scope it out for them, but he finally was able to give them what they were looking for. Cherished Memories, one of Aunt Mary's childhood movies and a favorite of her mother's, in the best quality that he could find it with what Sasuke and Wendy were looking for.

He was...bummed, bluntly. Itachi left in rather a hurry, leaving Sasuke with a sour taste right away. He knew he wouldn't be able to stay long, but he at least hoped his brother could stay for just twenty minutes of the movie. But it couldn't be helped. It was the holiday season, everyone was doing their last obligations of the year--he, Wendy, and her own brothers were no exceptions--and Sasuke had stupidly gotten his hopes up that Itachi could spare a bit more time.

What he was worried about, though, was Wendy. Wendy loved Itachi just as much as he did, considered him her older brother. Sasuke and Itachi had learned over the years to warn her, John, or Michael whenever there wasn't much time to spare. That way, none of them would take it personally. It was just the same leading up to today. Sasuke couldn't help but ponder whether the notice would be enough to cushion the blow, especially at times like this.

Well, at this rate, all he could do was suck it up and keep pushing forward. Snowy countrysides in black-and-white and actors he was just learning about awaited as the opening credits faded in and out.

"Um, well... it's black and the pages have gilt edges. It's a book about monsters and mythology, I think the title is in red lettering too."

He says all of this while looking under the couch and frowning to himself when all he finds are dust bunnies and a cobweb or two. Where in the world had that book run off to? It was one of his favorite!

"I'm sure the last place I had it was here in the living room..."

"Erm, Wendy." The eldest of the Darling boys cleared his throat. He told himself that the next time he saw his sister or his mother, he would ask either one of them for help. Wendy came first.

"Are you busy with anything, by chance?" He hoped not. Father Christmas needed to get this letter with time to spare. What he needed to ask him was a most pressing matter.

Historia's voice is gentle but stern as she speaks to the girl before her, a small smile on her face that she hopes might be somewhat reassuring. It's funny, how fiercely protective Historia has become over this girl throughout the short amount of time she's known her.

There was a time when Historia thought she wasn't capable of caring about anyone. Even today, she struggles more than most people think - to empathize; and to care about anything that isn't important to her personally. But even if it's a selfish thing... Historia thinks that this care she holds for Wendy is something to be treasured.

she’s  not!  everyone  knows  the  saying  snitches  get  stitches!  she’s been  known  to  enforce  that  saying  to  other  kids  (not  really  she  just  says  that  to  seem  tough). but... the  girl’s  eyes  do  a  quick  side  eye ,  whipping  her  head  over  her  shoulders  to  be  sure  there  were  no  eavesdroppers  about. finally  turning  back  to  wendy  again , her  voice  laced  with  a  devious  whisper.

"Merry Christmas Melvin!" Wendy beamed as she handed him a wrapped package, inside was a pair of mittens with some leaves embroidered onto them and a beautiful journal with an engraved golden tree with many leaves and branches on it.

"Merry Christmas Wendy!" He accepts her offered package, smiling with a sense of glee about him. The mittens are lovely and for a moment he wonders if she knitted them herself, even if the embroidery makes him question that notion. And the journal?

Well, he can certainly make use of that!

In his own hands, he offers up a wrapped package of his very own for her. Inside its brown paper that is more traditional than anything, is a warm winter hat in a lovely shade of Oxford Blue and a vinyl record from The Secret Garden since she'd mentioned it months ago. Hopefully Wendy would be into records just as much as Mellie herself.

Adora beamed up at the older girl. Despite being one of four children, Adora didn’t have a big sister- in fact she was one. She imagined that if she did, said sister would be very much like her best friend. Wendy certainly didn’t mind having a sickly younger girl follow her around like a duckling. She always seemed to welcome it, value Adora’s friendship as much as Adora valued hers.

“Grandmama let them come visit me- but not too long because I ‘needed rest.’” Adora sighed but managed a smile for her friend’s sake if nothing else.

WITHIN NARUTO'S CORE --- he felt help was a form of a gift but it also began a level of trust and ( vulnerability ) that some were not ready to initiate in. There are parts you would have to almost perceive as [ w e a k n e s s ], but he also believed that acknowledging those weaknesses could eventually become your greatest strengths too. So when he heard those words coming from her, he could only provide encouraging words and a positive reinforcement --- illuminating his kindness into his next set of syllables.

"Itachi!" Wendy hurried over to him, waving her hand over her head, "Itachi!" Once she reached him, she threw her arms around him in a hug, "Happy Birthday, dearest big brother!" She let him go to rummage through her bag, "Here! This is for you!" Wendy handed him a wrapped present where inside would be a combined rendition of the Lord of the Rings books by J. R.R. Tolkien. // for the modern verse pwease Blue :')

Itachi was greeted back from college, usually, to celebrate Wendy's birthday, and there always lay a decent amount of time to not have to worry about anything before going back to intern at the health office. Then, his birthday. Personally, Itachi wasn't much for his own birthday celebrations. The only incentive he saw in the commotion of his birthdays was to see his family, his partner, or his nearest and closest friends and colleagues happy.

In this case, Wendy was immediately upfront about her well wishes. He knelt down to hug her back and spied the bulk inside her bag. There was the present. He remembered being in school and feeling on the spot when his classmates gawked at how nonchalantly he undressed gifts and how flatly he gave thanks to the things he didn't even want to begin with.

With Wendy, John, Michael, or Sasuke, Shisui or Izumi, even Naruto or Kisame, it felt different. None of them really cared how he reacted, and he had let them in enough to know what he would have wanted. When she retrieved the behemoth of a book from her bag, it took him aback, initially, but he immediately recognized the iconography before seeing the title.

"Good heavens, Wendy," Itachi breathed with surprise. That was all he could manage at first before breaking into a smile. How on earth did she manage to afford this?! He knew what this cost at the bookstore. Knowing how tight her father could be, even with birthdays, there was only a touch of guilt that stewed in his gut. It was short-lived, though, drowned by the gratitude and--he'd be honest only with himself--giddiness that overtook his soul. All of that, of course, would not come to the surface. Instead, the smile that deepened the lines in his face and bared some of his teeth would be only enough to show his gratitude.

"Thank you, love. I'm truly touched." He pulled his dear sister-figure back into an embrace, then breathed out a quiet snicker, "Now, the dilemma would be finding the time to read this paperweight. That is...unless you're reading something yourself and would like to share space sometime to do so."
