Optimus transformed and stretched before entering the station. He saw Astrotrain sitting at one of the tables, one of the boxes he pulled up from the basement opened up next to him as the triple changer looked through it, some of the items already on the table. The prime saw what was taken out of the box and his optics lit up with a joy he could barely ever let through. The noise of the red and blue truck moving to the table caused Astrotrain to look over at him. The grey and purple shuttle-train gave him a brief smile as he approached.

Optimus snatched the cyclerat falsemesh toy from the table and snuggled it, sitting down right next to Astrotrain as his mask snapped back. He could feel Astrotrain staring at him as he pressed his faceplate into the old toy and leaned onto the table slightly.

“I didn’t think there were any more once we found the centicablepede toy,” Astrotrain started, “but I guess we just didn’t look hard enough.” 

Optimus looked up from the cyclerat toy to the other falsemeshs on the table. About half of them were like the cyclerat one, just being plain Cybertronian animals. Of the other half, about three fourths of it were just animals in poses that fit various holidays, such as the Wellover, Sparkmate’s Joor, the Chord of Gifts, and Reliance Joor. (If compared to human holidays, in order, they were most like New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and various independence days.) The last bit of the other half were falsemesh toys of characters from Cybertronian franchises that would surely still be alive if the war didn’t ruin Cybertron as it did.

“There’s still more in the box. That’s just the 21 I was able to get out of the box before you showed up,” Astrotrain commented. “And for some stupid reason whoever was packing this box stuffed it with so many falsemesh toys.” Optimus looked towards the box and put the cyclerat back with the other animal falsemeshs.

“What were you doing with them?” Optimus asked as he motioned to move the box.

Astrotrain moved the box and answered, “Mostly just seeing what’s here. Maybe, if I find something interesting and no one will question where the hell I found it, bring one back to Rumble and Frenzy. I guess I’m also sorting through them so we know how many of each there are.”

Optimus looked into the box and he saw his carrier coding trying to activate. He felt it wanting and trying to evaluate the triple changer before he shoved it back down. The prime took out a falsemesh toy, one shaped like the main goblin-like character from yet another series. He placed it next to the other two franchise characters (a weird pavedillo with a hat and a simplified Cybertronian racer) as Astrotrain grabbed two toys from the box. He looked at the two, then placed them into the general animal pile.

His carrier coding tried to emerge once again as Astrotrain returned to the box. He shoved the coding back down again as the triple changer grabbed a few more from the box. Optimus followed, then paused as two of the falsemeshs Astrotrain grabbed went into the decorative animal pile and the other into the general animal pile.

“I’m going to see if there’s any empty boxes or bins downstairs,” Optimus said, standing up.

Astrotrain seemed to take a moment to process the statement, then replied, “That’s… a good idea. I didn’t think of that.”

Optimus walked towards the stairs as he replied, “That is fine. I’ll retrieve some.”

Over the next week, a few other stories started to crop up.

The old woman had a fracture in her femur. When the medical resident got to her, he saw that the fracture had already started to heal. Most unusual, he thought. This was only a week or two after her mysterious disappearance.

His X-rays were totally weird. In some places he'd take multiple images of the same bit of bone. He'd rotate the detector around the patient, and then pick a new spot and repeat. It would have been an incredible waste of time, except for one thing: at some angles he got a fuzzy line, the fuzzy line of a ghost, over the bone.

A photograph was sent to the forensic radiologist. He had some experience with spectral photography. He told the medical resident that something was going on, but he couldn't put a name to it. Maybe it was a radioactive line, maybe an anatomical overlay, maybe a little of both. The radiation lab got involved, and again there were strange goings-on. When the radiographs came back, they were fuzzy everywhere, but in places the fuzz had been smoothed and turned into patterns, with no X-ray source known to science. If an X-ray source had created the patterns, it had to have been at a wavelength below what the radiation lab could detect. The pattern was distinctly spectroscopic: it matched the spontaneous emission spectrum of tissue samples kept in sealed tubes at room temperature.

A tissue sample at room temperature: that was impossible. The forensic radiologist seemed to be using his words very carefully. He had learned something about sealed tubes, it seemed. Like what?

Another account came from a news crew out for a day in the barrens. Their vehicle was nowhere near the main road, was heading into a place that people avoided, and then they found a sort of cache full of desiccated animal corpses, most of them inexplicably damaged or broken. They got the impression it was a temporary shelter, or hiding place. There were occasional signs that the cache had been inhabited. There was a webbed cape thrown over the abandoned stock pile of human remains, but this was just an ominous detail. No one found a compass.

When the people left the region, they crossed a river on a bridge that no one could remember having been there before.

No one remembered having been in the barrens.

Many people had gone into the barrens. None had come back.

When the National Guard was sent in, they found tents with sleeping bags untouched. They found books on a shelf. Someone had gone to the bother of assembling bookshelves. Tents were ready to use, no pegs or stakes had to be put in the ground. A compass and a webbed cape hung on a wall, so near that it would be impossible to move them without also moving the bookshelves.

Many people had gone to the barrens. None had returned.

A thick fog coated the sea.

In the fog, a person walked.

Through the white wall of air, a salmon jumped.

The salmon was not real.

A man on the beach saw the salmon dart into the wave.

A woman on the road saw the salmon jump through the air.

A man on the mountain saw the salmon shoot up from the sea.

No one saw the salmon.

Photographs showed the salmon.

The recordings showed the salmon.

That man was the man who saw the salmon dart through the water.

That man was the man who saw the salmon jump over the air.

That man was the man who saw the salmon while it was in the air.

What do you mean, "that man"? What is a man? What is a person? What is a living thing?

The salmon was not reality.

A sea creature was real.

Grace Poe is out to prove to the world—the universe, rather—that experience is not an issue if you have a confidently beautiful heart in the right place—and more than a few well-placed, well-worded facts and arguments.

Let met get this straight: I am, in no way or form, campaigning for any of the candidates, but if you were to askme how I’d rather perform in my next public speaking class, I’d definitely want to pull off a Grace Poe—all calm demeanour and firm resolve. She came into these debates with hardly anything more than the Citizenship Issueto introduce herself to the public, and now she’s stepping off that podium as the poster girl for the ideal student (or so the Internet goes: “’Yung kaklase mong nag-aral nang bongga para sa exam.”).

Experience is undoubtedly a fundamental aspect of national governance. After all, over a hundred million lives are at stake here, and we definitely need a little bit more than book smarts and theoretical stock knowledge to get us through the next six years. But Grace Poe with her singular term in a national seat, and hardly a few years in public service is out to prove that experience is not the be-all end-all of good governance, and the presentplans and future actions hold more weight than any past achievements can have. This much she makes clear, as she handles question after weighty question with a poise deserving of a Miss Universe crown--all in the span of a minute and a half.

In fact, Poe seemed so determined to get this point across, she actually manages to be the only to satisfactorilyanswer her questions. The other candidates, all well-seasoned veterans who have served public office for wellover a decade, had been vague, if not downright off-tangent in their responses (can I just say, defending theexistence of political dynasties is not the same as addressing the problem on whether or not they should be, at the very least, regulated by the law). Although to be fair, the 90-second time frame was positively not enoughto address salient national issues, no matter how obvious the answer may have been. The public needs to hear solid, viable platforms, and a minute cannot possible do that justice. Still, Poe manages to work with what she has and delivered some conceivable plans of actions--all, it is worth mentioning, without bringing down any of her competitors.

Suffice to say that when Poe promised for a fresh perspective in public office, she managed to bring that in withthe debates--the debates that had been mostly about, as seems to be customary, empty, ambiguous and vague promises, and never-ending mudslinging. At the very least, she brought well-mannered wit and elegantly- veiled sass to the table. A refreshing break indeed from the usual crude quips of the Duterte, the cheesy jokes,pick-up lines of Defensor-Santiago, and the repetitive spiels of Roxas (“tuwid na daan”) and Binay (“effectiveand decisive leader”).

Poe’s exemplary performance in the first round of presidential debates has definitely set the stage for hercampaign, and she has proven herself to be on equal footing as her more senior peers.

Whether or not this will translate to improved chances of presidency is still all up for, pardon the pun, debate.

NRA Being Sued For Illegal Coordination With Trump Campaign – The Ring of Fire Network

The NRA is being sued by the Giffords Law Center for allegedly violating campaign finance laws and illegally coordinating with Republican campaigns, including the campaign of Donald Trump. The charges in the lawsuit are incredibly serious, but part of the complaint says that the FEC has been made aware of these issues and never did a single thing about it. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

You know, the NRA has had a bad couple of years when you think about it. Uh, not only do they have a, a, you know, former war criminal now sitting at top of their organization, Ollie North, uh, but they’ve also been busted taking illegal foreign money, essentially being used as a money laundering operation to help influence politicians here in the United States. And now this week they’re being sued by the Giffords law center for all of their potentially illegal campaign contributions and campaign activities over the last few election cycles. According to this lawsuit filed by the Gifford Center against the NRA, the group gave wellover the legally allowed limit to several different candidates, including 25 million to Donald Trump, even though they were only allowed to give 5,000 to Donald Trump. So they exceeded the legal limit on contributions by almost 10,000 times with the amount of money they gave to Donald Trump. And here’s the thing, the Giffords law center didn’t necessarily want to file this lawsuit.

They’re being forced to file it. Essentially because the federal elections commission, the FEC refuse to take action on all of the complaints that the group has been filing against the NRA for all of these potentially criminal activities they’ve been carrying out for years. Finally, the Giffords law center said, enough is enough. We have handed over the evidence. We have filed these complaints with the FTC. We have followed the letter of the law and the FEC turned a blind eye to it and they said, we don’t care. We’re not going to do anything. We’re not going to address these. It’s so now the lawsuit had to be filed and it’s about time. I, I applaud and I admire the Giffords law center for doing everything they had to do. I also admire them for finally saying to hell with this, we’re filing the lawsuit. We’re going to find out what’s going on because that’s what needs to happen.

The NRA is a disgusting, deceitful organization that consistently goes against the wishes of even their own members. This is not an attack on the NRA members. A majority of them actually support responsible, meaningful gun control measures. They are not the same as the leadership of this organization that consistently appears to be breaking the law. Here are the people who have, uh, been listed in the lawsuit as receiving well over the legal limit in campaign funds from the NRA, Republican Senator Thom Tillis, Republican Tom Cotton, Cory Gardner, Ron Johnson, Josh Holly, and Montana’s republican state auditor, Matt Rosendale. In addition of course to Donald Trump. And all of these donations took place 2014, 2016 and 2018. Every one of them happens to also be a republican. The NRA is way past needing to be investigated. We know they are taking money illegally from foreign countries that, that that’s a thing that’s already happened and we know that it’s happened.

The evidence shows it. And now we find out that in addition to taking illegal money, they’re also somehow giving massive amounts of money to these candidates, including the 25 million to Donald Trump and there illegally coordinating with these campaigns. Thanks in part to the illegal money that they took. Now if I didn’t know any better, I daresay that the NRA is nothing short of a money laundering organization that other countries are using to funnel money to influence politics here in the United States. But I guess that’s something we’ll have to wait and see when the discovery phase of this lawsuit finally begins, and I guarantee you that is something we’re going to find.
