While I'm in a rental and I know it can't be guaranteed to stay, I'm going to plant Richmond Birdwing Vine (pararistolochia praevenosa), Purple Violet (viola betonicifolia), and Native Violet (viola hederacea).

They're the host plants for the Richmond Birdwing and Australian Fritillary butterflies, and I keep seeing that post about a man in America who helped out significantly I think with the California pipevine swallowtail.

There's so much I can't do to help with the environment, but planting a vine I'll need to trim in my own yard alongside a handful of other native plants and having a bit of a veggie garden helps myself, my family, and some animals in the area.

#the solarpunk stuff I see is #well it's frequently all art #and when it's not it's things that feel unattainable/insurmountable to do on top of my daily life #I've a full time job and I have to factor in travel to and from that job (public transport here is shit so it takes about an hour each way)#and then maintaining the house in my free time on what little energy I have left #it feels insane to think 'well I also want to grow more food and store it and make a solar dehydrator and make more food from scratch and #get in touch with people in the community that are like minded. and get mad at our local government for its shitty maintenance of the lake #that has been cautioned against people swimming in it bc it'll make you sick #and this and that and everything else and visible mending also #fuck #so #I'm planting some new plants and impatiently waiting for my tomatoes and that's enough for now 😌

what kind of hobbies does machete have, and is there any artist, musical or visual, that he likes in particular?

He's an avid reader and has an impressive personal library. Crowds and big public events aren't his thing but he enjoys going to theatre and opera occasionally. He commissions and collects art, I'd like to believe he's a patron to at least a couple of painters and sculptors. If I had to pick one artist to be his favorite, I think it might be an obvious choice but I'd have to go with Caravaggio, a contemporary of his.

if i finish writing my fic about chilchuck teaching marcille to knit it'll be over for you guys

#pickle pontificates #think about it. i found another extra that references magic warmups btw #that one had hair braiding meditation and hand gestures #but think about it. are knitting/crochet/various other needle arts not very repetitive meditative things???#wouldn't knitting be a great method of magic warmups in place of hair braiding???#marcille uses her hair for magic a couple times and it could be that it has inherently magical properties #but my theory is that hers is imbued with magic because she uses it for warmups all the time #so then it could follow that the resulting knitted items would be imbued with magical properties... dungeon rabbit resistant scarf anyone?#or a fireproof sweater?#why is chilchuck my chosen victim for the person to teach her? well. on my conspiracy wall over here you can see that chilchuck frequently #sits down to sew his clothes/equipment back together throughout canon. i think it's safe to say that he's canonically good at sewing #the only other characters who we see demonstrate similar abilities are mrs. tansu who is a beast at knitting and an icon #and falin. who carries sewing supplies in her equipment (smart) but has frankly atrocious stitching #as can be seen in the comic where she and laios offer to help put marcille's name on her stuff and it's illegible #mrs. tansu really has no relation to marcille #and although falin's bad sewing may have been due to her eyesight (which would no longer affect that) she is canonically also a bad teacher #i think she would try enthusiastically but i do not see it working out #so chilchuck it is.#a fic based around these concepts allows me to further these agendas:#marcille recovering from dungeon lord shenanigans with the help of her friends agenda #chilchuck engaging in reluctant dadly activities agenda #needle arts chilchuck agenda #and... the special bonus i would like to get to... chilchuck reuniting with his wife agenda #and wingman marcille agenda #AND contributing to the dunmeshi platonic fic agenda??? so many wins #there.#now all i gotta do is finish writing it. which is an issue because i have two school assignments due yesterday

The author and I have the same favorite mangaka but they tried to claim her as a "one of the good ones defying all problematic elements (of the gross bl genre of course)" without knowing that . One of the only other scanlated works from same mangaka is a psychological horror incest BL with every trigger warning under the sun

Also I hate white British people but that's on me #listening and learning

#a lot of people got on her ass about sharing an illegal scanlation sc as well but honestly like ehh i have a little more lenience ig #since the authors work IS obscure and there isnt an english translation and i dont expect someone who allegedly is not a frequent reader #to know all the nuances of scanlation etiquette or whatever. but its also because the author is obscure that im laughing at this point #because she only has like . 4 what i would call main works and one of them is definitely problematic as hell #and another one features some consent issues and they bang as teens which is fairly industry standard but #honestly i dont really care either way like im very neutral and the books probably cute i spose its just the constant trend you see over and #over again with these white queer authors where they have to talk about how their work is so much different from the obviously inferior #asian queer art like we werent doing it centuries before you guys and have such a strong queer history thats so often disregarded in favor #of starting the discussion in the us . or something whatever its midnight and i havent finished my work prep

#im posting this very late because i was sort of weary of how it came out and ended up messing w it until it was like 4am oops.#and i have plans tmrw so... oh well! i did my best and ill put it out while i can!#and i tried to make the scene match barnard's colors lol #finn's ocs #finn's art #i know i said id do more sillay stuff with the simpler screentone only style but i had a couple more of these in me #and this is the first piece im making thats like an actual part of the story too rather than just setting stuff for fun #i wanna write something to go with it too but for now ill just sort of briefly explain the context in the tags here:#barnard has a pretty bad case of OCD and his compulsions have made it difficult to make friends in the past #he was never outright bullied or anything but people just didnt really have the patience to deal with it #he has compulsions that include stuff like walking through doors until it feels right and needing things to be perfectly aligned #which in group settings has lead to people having to wait for him to finish his rituals and join them #they might find it tolerable at first but eventually they grow impatient and hes just... not invited to stuff anymore #but juno is a newer member of the guild who ends up frequenting the same library. hes also kinda a little weird #and they dont become fast friends or anything but just sort of naturally spend time in the same place #though they never plan meetups they eventually fall into a routine. around the same time theyd just both be at the library #and read next to each other. and maybe talk a bit. and eventually they end up walking back to the guildhall together #since theyre going to the same place after all. and juno always waits for barnard outside the door #eventually barnard asks if this bothers him. juno kinda just tells him 'of course it does' without any malice or anything. just a statement #barnard is surprised and apologizes and juno says not to. but the next day juno doesnt show up at the usual time.#barnard assumes hes committed somekinda more by bringing it up. he ends up staying there late reading to get his mind off it & not ruminate #but when he leaves juno is in fact still waiting for him down the hall (see pic) having collected a bunch of books literally abt ocd #he fell asleep bc barnard stayed later than expected. and hes an eepy guy generally. and also one very bad at expressing himself #but now barnard gets that juno's 'of course it [bothers me]' had the implication of 'but its worth it' which no friend has previously done.#and from the interaction juno was also able to understand that this isn't something barnard just does for the hell of it so. he studies.#and checks a bunch of stuff out because he thinks it could help his friend too (theres ocd workbooks and such- i remember working w them)#and thats the point where they became more ''friends'' than ''pleasant library acquaintances''#from there on they also do get into juno's problems. whole other bag of worms. but this specific scene is more about bernard from his pov #sorry about when i said briefly explain. i lied </3 #but compared to the whole sequence im picturing its brief so shhh

Regarding the previous post, I think the way I approach trying to evaluate a piece of art is asking "Do I think the positive things I get out of it outweigh the parts of it that I don't like?" And when I call something a "guilty pleasure" song/show/book/piece of media/etc. it's really more in the sense of, "Given who I am as a person, the flaws I've found in this should be complete dealbreakers for me, but somehow they aren't, and it makes me feel like I'm having an identity crisis."

#like. I think something like...idk shiki or cxgf excels on multiple levels. I understand why I like them. given the things I look for in art #it makes sense that these shows would speak to me because they make the effort to showcase those things I look for. because the people #in charge of those works clearly valued the same kinds of things and cared about seriously exploring them.#but with something like. uh. ctrlz. that is NOT the case and I frequently found myself going 'why would anyone make this writing #decision?' but I still sat through all 3 seasons of it! I still really enjoyed it! those flaws SHOULD have made me give up according to #personal history but they never did. and I very very much genuinely question why. I have NO IDEA why I still care about this #silly convoluted teen drama show so much. but I do. I wrote SO MANY FUCKING POSTS ABOUT IT.#I really love wicked the musical. I've heard many people call it 'hokey' or 'cheesy' or 'objectively bad' but here's the thing! I DON'T #think it's bad!!! like literally at all!!!!!! and it does do some genuinely cool things in regard to the music and the way the characters #develop and what the show says about the nature of prejudice and human connection. is it like. idk Serious™ the way that something like #Parade is? no. but it doesn't have to be. it does what it sets out to do and it does it well and this is why the whole '''objective #evaluation''' thing doesn't actually mean anything. I value thoughtfully-constructed music and dynamic female characters #(which this musical has). I value stories that deal with the complex and messy feelings that come with being a human (which this musical #has). I value stories about 'other'ness and romantic subplots that aren't just built on 'This Girl Is Pretty' (which this musical has).#and I value professional displays of technical vocal ability because I know how fucking DIFFICULT that is (which this musical...if you cast #it well...has).#if you value something else in a musical then yeah you will probably think THIS one is '''objectively bad'''#if you don't see the point of musicals as an art form you will probably think wicked is '''objectively bad'''#do you see where the problem with categorizing analysis like this is??

I started volunteering in my friend’s kindergarten last month and like… I love these kids so much it’s unreal. They’re so sweet and weird! One of the kids drew me this killer Mario art and I’m gonna frame it and hang it on my wall.

#i don't like explaining my art because like you should form your own opinions and stuff but this one is literally about my dental problems #that i am having right now as well as generally throughout my life #i have weak teeth (and bones) (that's why i can't get lip piercings though i really want to)#i had a really good dentist that i frequented before moving to a different city and it would be very difficult to see him now #and he has all my history like where i had nerves removed and all that and there's a lot and i don't remember all of it #and recently i got a gum infection #and i hoped it would go away on its own (based on nothing)#because i don't take care of myself until i have choice #maybe it wouldn't have gotten so bad if i saw a dentist sooner who knows #so in the end i did see a new dentist and i was like it doesn't hurt that much it's probably not that bad #and she was like no this is actually very bad and it will take a lot of time and money to fix #i was kinda saving up for a new laptop but like that's not time sensitive unlike my teeth. i need those to eat #ive never been afraid of dentists as a kid but now their prices do fill me with dread #traditional art #my art #body horror #ink drawing

#advanced sorry as a non artist who doesnt really understand all that lighting shit #but even with weird lighting:#you can make their skin tone different from the pale shown in canon without it being like lemon colored T_T_T_T_T_T #similarly it's so possible to draw darker skin tones without making them gray or all have the same undertone #also i swear if it's for the palette/color theory you can also make palettes and color well without making it... yellow #ramblings!#this has happened in both my fandoms (honestly more frequently than i like but whatever)#& it just annoys me sm lmfaoooofnjksdhgkj #partially blaming one very popular drawing tutorial abt how to draw easian (the tutorial said asian but its rlly just easian......) faces &#im sorry the faces look like lemons #it just................... annoys me #mfw get u a face that looks like 🟡#this has been in the queue for a really long time bc im . v on the fence abt posting like #i feel like half the time it's not on purpose but it also drives me up the wall also i feel like if people simply paid more attention it #wouldn't happen! well. anyways #whatever this is one of those insane rants that i just need to get out #this is what happens when i occasionally search tags it's just.
