idk how to feel abt the promo now being completely focused on haladriel ngl. like … on one hand it clearly means something has shifted and they’re aware of what attracts attention, which bodes well for haladriel in future szns. but at the same time im kinda annoyed that this promo tactic only happened after s2 because a) i think they should be promoting s2 as a whole b) the push for haladriel should’ve happened way before the finale/ep 8. they’re reusing the fight scene every day and it’s like yeah you realised they bring in the views but you have only 1 clip to sustain over 2 years.

the captions like “indistinguishable from evil” are also funny because none of that translates with the crappy dialogue we actually got. it’s like they did a whole 180 because pre finale promo was vv different. i think they should stop taking advice from ‘focus groups’ or reddit bros. ofc feedback is good but sometimes i feel like they’re always leaning on outside opinions to carry the next szn rather than the writers knowing exactly how they want things to play out & standing by it. it’s very wishy washy sometimes

I'm not even sure that it bodes well for season 3, anon. Not in the sense that most shippers want, anyway.

I think we can be rather hopeful regarding Haladriel's screentime (they'll share more than one scene), but that's probably the best we can hope for. It is a relationship that will be only antagonist. I don't think we should expect any grand romantic gesture, any kiss or any admission of romantic feelings.

Season 2 was the moment when it could still happen, because Galadriel was still conflicted about her feelings for Saurbrand. Well as we saw, she easily tossed her inner conflict through the window during the fight, turned into mega girl boss and never took the bait, even after Sauron stabbed her with Morgoth's crown to bind her to him. This ship has very likely sailed now. Whatever temptation that Galadriel has in the future... It will probably be related to her desire for power, which should keep growing as darkness grows in her as well. Sauron will definitely have a part in that as he's not going to let her go, but.... I think we shouldn't hope too much for romantic innuendos, not from her side, anyway.

So yeah, I think Amazon's desperate to keep shippers invested because they realize far too late that we represent an important part of their viewership and that's why they keep licking Haladriel boots. I've seen it happen before, with Reylo before TROS : after mocking or ignoring the shippers for years, suddenly their entire marketing was centered on Rey and Kylo. The only difference is that they never acknowledged any romantic feelings between them, which in retrospect wasn't surprising since romance there was none in TROS, except for that kiss which was less romantic than Elrondriel's so called platonic smooch 😭 The SW marketing team baited Reylo for more than a year and for what ?

All that to say, I'd really advise you to not trust Amazon's marketing strategy. It's all about engagement. They want to attract new shippers and get them to watch TROP so their numbers increase, while trying to get old shippers invested for season 3. Right now they play the romance card but we shouldn't take it as an insurance that romance or something close to romance is in the cards for future Haladriel interactions, imho.

ATLA Live Action Stream of Consciousness (Episode 3, Part 1).

This rebel leader sounds like somebody but I don’t know who.

This very small plot twist has been ruined for me because I know what Lizzy Yu looks like.

Daniel Dae Kim as Ozai is awesome! He has a menacing presence that’s much more refined than just “RAAAAAH POWER!” One of the few things I think may have improved from the cartoon. And also what does he know about loss? Could be interesting.

AZULA I WAS ON THE FREAKING FLOOR SCREAMING I absolutely loved this intro. They’ve given her more emotional depth in this short clip than she got in like…all of book 2. And DAMN Lizzy Yu can act! She went through so many emotions so fast and barely said anything. The trolls who are criticizing her for not looking like a cartoon are not welcome on this blog. I hope the actual emotional depth keeps up.

I have already seen this clip so no surprises but I’ll share my thoughts anyway.

I knew this from interviews but Momona Tamada IS Ty Lee. She’s absolutely perfect.

I continue to love Lizzy Yu. She’s striking a balance of snarky but also clever and also you know she could kill you. I like that we get to see her be a little less guarded around her friends, and her feelings around Zuko/the throne make sense. Not sure if they’re going to make her all power motivated (wouldn’t love that) but regardless feeling like your work means nothing to those whose opinions you value is something I can definitely relate to, and it works for her character. Also her line about knowing which pieces to play? Chills!

I wanted to simplify how I posted my Suspect Theories so I’ve taken away the charts which has my questions and thoughts. Instead I’ve put the original sus list and if they’re still active, disproven, or yet to be explored in the series. Some them I’ve shelved & others I’m considering on a small scale.

NUTH ❓ Still active

- Originally the series was building a case against Nuth - he seemed like an obsessive, possibly violent, and possessive individual who was attached to & influencing Nant’s life. I felt he could be a major red herring, however when the narrative shifted to paint Nant as the possible h violent one while victimizing Nuth, I felt there were a few threads left unanswered & a possibility that Nuth might not be a reliable narrator/source.

NOBODY

Theory A: Suicide ❌ Possibly disproven

- Theory built on the idea that Nant may have been struggling with unhappiness & his circumstances to the point of self harming.

- This theory was explored in episode 7 & 8 wherein Nuth claims Nant committed suicide due to pressures of his debtors but Prom & the Baddies feel the suicide video was just a set up video by Nant to fake his death because the clip was sent to Nuth, his laptop was found elsewhere & there was no body found.

Theory B: Split Personality 🔆 Unexplored

- Theory built on the idea that Nont/a ant ks actually one person who struggles with split personality or an identity crisis.

- Theory has yet to be explored within the story.

Theory C: Debt Collector❗️Currently Exploring

- Theory was built on the idea that the debtors Prom mentioned when he first met Nont likely wasn’t Soong cause he would just said his name (and Soong admitted that Nant has paid him back). This idea branched off into 3 mini theories of what could’ve happened to Nant if he was indebted to drug dealers…

- Hiding: Self explanatory. This is the theory that the series is currently exploring but may be disproven if the clip at the end of episode 8 was really Nant’s corpse.

- Coma: Again this one was self explanatory. If Nant owed a large sum of money they may not have minded harming him if he couldn’t pay up. This would’ve explained the lack of a body & communication on Nant’s side of things. Again this may be disproven soon as well if the clip at the end of episode 8 was really Nant’s corpse.

- Drug overdose: This one didn’t really have much to do with the debtors other than it being drug related. The theory is built on the concept that Nant may have had a bad reaction or an accidental overdose on drugs he was either using or unknowingly took & those around him either left him for dead or got rid of his body afterwards. This particular theory is still possible given the state of the possible corpse, which seem no have no visible markings that would lead to is thinking he was stabbed, choked, shot or any such methods).

Shelving: 🛑

- Prom: I’m finally taking Prom of the suspect list and putting him on the self for no, I might regret this the minute the next episode (9) comes on but him just being mysterious & having sis vibes is not enough for him to be on the sus list. His mysterious nature really could just be down to Nont & trying to keep him in his tangled web as he tries to find Nant or replace him.

- Porsche: Like Prom, he was on the list for unfair reasons. A vibe or not liking a character is not enough of a reason. Even tho Porsche stay doing shit he shouldn’t be doing there really no markers or clues that he’s done anything to actually harm Nant.

Possibly adding later: ⁉️

- Keen: Keen should I all already be on the list given he did have the dog mask and he admits to being at this party Nuth had where the clip could’ve been filmed but there’s three reasons I think he’s still not it

1. Nuth did come to him & told him to keep what he’d given him secret which could be the mask or could be something else.

2. Keen seems genuinely confused about why anyone would e asking about mask…granted he could be a phenomenal faker 😅

3. Even if he is the Mask Dog (which he really could be given he has the mask & the physic from the clip is most similar to his & Prom) I don’t think the dog murdered Nant, the Dog had a knife and if we really were allowed to see the corpse stabbing didn’t seem to be the method. As well as getting a bloody body out of a party and a hotel might’ve been more difficult. I think the Mask Dog is another red herring.

- Porsche Daddy: Look Porsche daddy guilty of something - I don’t know what yet but I’m betting something.

Interesting Aspects:

- Reoccurring imagery:

* Wine: I admit to having an obsession with wine since since the episode it was verbalized because really it just seems to keep popping back up when it comes to Nont/Prom/Nant. I’m sure it’s entirely coincidental but it fascinates me…

* When Prom first met Nont he gave him a glass a wine (he himself had brown liquor)

* After Nont found out from the Baddies that Nant supposedly only likes beer Prom poured them both glasses of wine with the excuse that he thought Nont/Nant had changed enough for wine now (despite the fact that this was the 2nd time he’d given Nont wine the first being when they met the first time)

* I believe “wine” was in one of the titles but don’t quote me on that one cause I cannot find a list of the titles now.

* When we get the flash back in ep8 of Nant & Prom having sex it includes wine - Wine is also mentioned in the song that’s playing

* It’s always red wine…which is so trippy to me cause apparently Nant didn’t drink the stuff & Prom seems to favor brown liquor yet he always has red wine (which is actually Nont’s preference) on hand.

* TVs: Damn near every room in the Baddies home has a tv but they’re never actually playing anything. There’s the rare time of Nont own image being shown but majority of the time it’s SMPTE color bars. In Proms room the tv had a picture one time and that was the first night they spent there but after the reveal of Nant being Nont the tv in that room has been static white noise ever since - leaving me to wonder if the static is more in relation to how Prom feels rather than Nont.

* Reflections: When the series first started we were getting several shots of Nont’s reflection / image everywhere def when he was alone. Sometimes those reflections would be used to communicate with his twin but that story in the second half of the stories both of those things seem to have disappeared…Why?

* Flowers: Usually presented with isolated characters and shots.

- Things I still wonder about…

* Does Zouey identify as Demisexual, Placiosexual or something else?

* What is the handprint at Nuth’s house all about if he didn’t murder anyone?!

* Why did they cut the ZoueyTeena scene…Because I don’t know my brain keeps thinking maybe ZT are lying for some reason.

* 2/3 projects I’ve seen from the writer (this being the 3rd) there’s usually atleast 1 pairing that does not make it…will that trend carry into Playboyy? And if so which pairing not making it (I think about this a lot actually).

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (Knuckles) Part 2: Knuckles hates the circus

Now I know that unlike Sonic he doesn’t chuckle (yeah sure), but what does Knuckles have against the circus? I don’t understand why his treck through the stage has him pretty much skip 90% of the thing, was Carnival Night just not designed with him in mind?

Other than that though everything else is fine, ice Cap I like how his act 2 focuses on the bottom portion of the stage and I like how different act 2 of Launch Base is with him. It’s appropriate that he gets to fight two versions of the miniboss, after Sonic only fought one with the other two being left inactive if you noticed.

What’s less appropriate is me dying all of a sudden for no good reason because Knuckles just happened to clip through the floor as I was falling

If we wanna talk about an “objective flaw” that Sonic 3 has is that the game is...honestly pretty damn glitchy

Now I know full well that the whole “Sonic is a glitchy, rushed mess of a series lol” take is something that Sonic fans are sick of hearing but...guys there is a degree of truth in that statement and it cannot be denied. Sonic games, even in the early days, have always had at least a certain degree of rough edges. Sonic 1 and 2 were pretty minor with this, at worst there were some physics related shenanigans but nothing too noticeable. Sonic CD was pretty problematic though, with some winky collision detection at points and noticeable slowdown when things got too hectic

Sonic 3 might just be the worst of the classics in this area and Sega must’ve known this because even the International manual mentions something along the lines of Robotnik setting some traps that might be impossible to escape from without resetting the game....which is a cute way of saying you might get softlocked while playing this and I can confirm

Now I don’t wanna say it’s as bad as Sonic 06, but every time, every SINGLE time I play Sonic 3 SOMETHING happens. Whether it’s my dying for no reason at all like what happened here or in a previous video while in the Death Egg, me getting crushed for standing too close to a crusher even though I wasn’t actually crushed by it, clipping through some terrain because I was going too fast forcing me to restart (this happened recently to me twice during another Knuckles playthrough I was doing, during Hydrocity Act 2, and another time it happened while I was messing around with the Hyper Dash as Sonic) and my most detested and frequent occurence: coming at a complete stop while rolling in some specififc loops or up some small hills which is the absolute worse: you lose all momentum and speed for no reason in a game that’s all about momentum and speed

I don’t know what it is with Sonic and glitches, the obvious answer that most on the Internet would give is that Sega likes to rush out games and that Sonic Team is clearly incompetent, but while there is truth in the former statement (as I’ll touch on later), the latter just doesn’t make sense to me: you may use this explanation for current Sonic Team, but this is the Sonic Team that brought us the original games, Sonic 3 itself, glitches aside, is one hell of a game, these guys are by no means incompetent so what happened? Honestly I think it’s partly due to Sonic’s inherently speedy nature, which makes it way easier for physics related bugs to occur.

Honestly for as much as I love Sonic 3 to death I...don’t really have a defense for this. When I was a kid I would rationalize the bugs as this just being an older game, but not only were Sonic 1 and 2 not this buggy, no other big game from this era had all of these issues. Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Mega Man X,all of these games do have glitches (as all games do), but they’re mostly minor stuff that you have to go out of your way to trigger and can actually be beneficial for speedrunning. If someone were to play this game for the first time and call it mediocre because they happened to run into these bugs frequently...I wouldn’t know what to tell them. I personally believe that Sonic 3′s overall design, gameplay, music and presentation are so top of their class that it allows me to mostly ignore the rough parts, but depending on one’s own sensibility regarding glitches this might not be enough.

Of course I do have an idea as to why Sonic 3 is so much buggier when compared to its predecessors and I believe it’s mostly due to its complicated development and it having to be split in two halves and I really wanted to focus on the latter part

Whenever I hear someone talk about Sonic 3 split nature they usually go “oh man lock on technology was so cool!”

And I’m like: they split a whole game in two parts and made you buy both of them. They sold you an incomplete game only to sell you the rest later on. This is almost the same shit companies like EA and Ubisoft pull nowadays, had the 90s had DLC that’s what Sonic & Knuckles would have been. People trash modern gaming for this, and rightly so, so why does nobody ever talk about this? And I’m not saying all of this because I want to bitch about how “Sega bad” and get a free cookie from Sonic Twitter, I know about the context behind this game, I know about Sega’s deadline due to their deal with McDonalds (which, unless I’m missing some details, feels very stupid to me and proof that Sega’s decision making was pretty faulty even back then) and I know about the difficulties of putting the whole game on a single cartridge without skyrocketing the manufacturing price. Game development can get insanely complicated and messy and I genuinely have respect for Sonic Team for the quality of the final product, especially given the overall conditions in which they were working.

But in the end there’s no getting around the fact that consumers back then had to essentially buy two games to get one

Sonic 3 alone cost about 70 bucks in North America back then

I couldn’t find similar data on Sonic & Knuckles but I think it’s safe to assume that it had a similar price tag, meaning that, if you wanted to buy the complete Sonic 3 experience, you had to fork over roughly 100 dollars at the very least. Keep in mind: this is all without taking inflation into account

Now some might say that none of this matters anymore because nowadays you can buy the whole game cheaply off of Steam or something. I find this logic flawed: when judging a game you need to at least take into account the context in which it was made, as that was the only frame of reference that its devs could have while making it as nobody could predict the future

Let’s put it this way: consider all of the beyond half finished trash that some companies nowadays like to throw on the market, while patching it like a year later or something. Now consider that some of those games might get rereleased 30 years from now more cheaply and with their full content from the get go. Would that suddenly make everything ok? No? Then not even Sonic 3 should be excempt from this

Now I’m not saying all of this because I wanna imply that Sonic 3 is actually bad and a cash grab and Sonic was never good yadda yadda

I’m saying that while Sonic 3 the videogame is, from a qualitative standpoint, a phenomenal experience, one of the very best videogames from the 90s (though with some noticeable rough edges), Sonic 3 the commercial product was pretty shoddily, and perhaps even greedily depending on how you wanna look at things, handled. This is an indelible part of the game’s history and I think it should be talked about. For the past years I’ve seen Sonic fans bitch and moan about the prices of games like Forces or Superstars because they’re too high for games that are so short and clearly rushed etc. And they might even have a point or two but I find it absolutely unfair that Sonic 3, which has the same issues in this regard but on an even bigger scale, is never mentioned, purely because it came out when all the people who are currently bitching about the industry’s problems were kids who had their parents but them stuff and this kind of discourse was practically non-existence. It’s a matter of fairness is what I’m saying

Anyone ever think about how in season 1 of stranger things Joyce was the only one to “sense” Will in the Upside Down, and then her and Jonathan could sense each other in the final episode?

Well I do, because in season 4 Steve was the one to sense Dustin. Which means they’re as close as a mother and child. Excuse me while I go sob in the corner.

I’m sure there’s a good mom Steve wordplay in here somewhere but I’m not articulate enough for that.

I just had this awesome stranger things 4 volume two theory!!! Credit goes to @.dizay on tiktok for pointing this out.

So in the tiktok the user points out that in the D&D game in the first episode Dustin couldn’t beat Vecna when he rolled an ELEVEN. This foreshadows El being unable to beat Vecna alone, just like Brenner said. But at the same time as the D&D game is being played, Lucas wins the basketball game at the last second by scoring the winning shot. Guess what number he is? EIGHT!!! THIS could foreshadow Eight, aka Kali, coming to El’s rescue near the end.

Imagine this: El has just lost against Vecna, and a majority of not all of the cast have been captured and/or killed by Vecna. Vecna is making his victory speech that we hear in the trailer, and as he’s about to finish El off, the striking blow goes THROUGH her! He, along with the audience, realizes this was an illusion and that everyone is getting away!

Having Kali come back would be EPIC! I’ve always wondered what else the Duffer brothers were going to do with her, especially because she appeared only in season two and was never mentioned again. They’ve proven with clock noises throughout the series that there has been a plan this whole time, so I don’t think they’d introduce Kali just to further El’s arc in season two. I think they WANTED us to forget about her, so when she comes in and saves the day it’s even more amazing! This theory is supported by the fact that Kali was referred to briefly by Vecna during El’s time at the lab, and I don’t think she’s ever been mentioned before this outside of season 2.

Even if this theory is totally wrong, I still believe Kali will be back! Lucas getting the winning shot could be foreshadowing Kali’s triumphant return next season instead of this season. Who knows honestly, this show is so good at getting you thinking you know what’s up and then it turns out you actually don’t. Can’t wait for volume 2!!!

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone talk about this, but has anyone seen that one clip of Eddie and Dustin together back to back?

I was rewatching the vol 2 sneak peak and I realized that Eddie is holding Steve’s nail bat!! This is so cute, I bet there was this whole scene where Steve is telling Eddie to protect Dustin for him, since he’ll be doing something else. And Steve gives Eddie the bat like a good luck charm.

Ugh I’m just so excited to see them again.

Okay, so I know it’s a little early for this but I have some predictions about season 5:

- In the last Dustin has always been very insistent about solving mysteries related to the upside down. However Dustin’s face when he saw the upside down particles leads me to believe the trauma from Eddie’s death will affect his confidence. He looked absolutely terrified when he noticed the particles. This is foreshadowed by Steve and Eddie’s comments about “getting his ego in check”, which will happen but not in the way anyone would want it to. So in season 5 Dustin will have an arc that revolves around Eddie’s death and regaining his confidence.

- Max’s almost-death in vol 2 felt absolutely BRUTAL. But I don’t think the Duffers would have left her alive if they didn’t intend on bringing her back somehow. We heard from Brenner that when Vecna kills, he takes everything that a person is and absorbs it. This makes me believe that the reason Max isn’t waking up and El couldn’t find her is because her soul and memories are will Vecna. I think there will be an arc next season about rescuing Max, but I don’t know how.

- at the end of season 5 there was a very dramatic scene where you can see a HUGE gate to the upside down. It’s kind of hard to ignore, so I think maybe the rest of the world will find out about the alternate dimension.

- The supposed timeskip is the most confusing part of season 5. The Duffer brothers confirmed that there will be a timeskip of 2-3 years between seasons 4 and 5, but I’m not entirely sure how that will work. I think that maybe Hawkins will be ground zero for a war between humans and Vecna with his monsters. Nancy described him having an army, so this would line up.

I’m ready to be completely proven wrong when season 5 info starts releasing, but I just had to get these thoughts out.

My #1 post of 2022

Honestly I think episode 8 of she hulk was just amazing, even without daredevils appearance. The suspense building from the moment Matt left Jen’s house was palpable. There was a drastic tonal shift from that point to the end of the episode that I think was amazingly executed especially considering the genre of the show is comedy.

I wasn’t expecting for the video to be released as revenge porn, but honestly I’m so here for it. It’s an issue that many women unfortunately have to face. The idea of having a video like that recorded without your knowledge or consent is jarring enough, let alone it being released in front of your colleagues, family, and friends at an event you were supposed to get an award for. And then of course Jen is viewed as the “bad guy” for reacting strongly at the release of this video. But its nice to see that this very real issue is being directly confronted. I’m excited to see how the show ends, and I look forward to Jen being even more badass.

(And while I’m on the subject, the talks about getting Jen’s blood for something was a brilliant misdirect. The blood will probably still play a factor in the finale but it successfully distracted me from a plot twist.)

This show has been amazing to watch as a whole, not just this episode, because it’s explicitly stated and shown the issues women face every day from episode 1 in the very first scene (where Jen had to deal with that asshole who thought he knew better). In fact, it even called out the types of misogynistic men who exist today during the brief social media scene in episode 2 I think. Here’s to hoping future marvel projects show similar traits!

1. Broppy (Branch x Poppy) from DreamWorks Trolls Y’all know I HAD to include this one, it’s one of my top ships after all! ;D Ever since I got into Trolls, I’ve been rooting for Poppy and Branch hard and seeing how much their relationship has grown to this very day, just warms my heart and makes me love them even more~ =^.^= And with Trolls Band Together coming up, I feel their love is gonna blossom stronger than ever, with Poppy supporting Branch through his family situation (aaaand, I hope they kiss and/or get engaged too, even!)

2. Quinessence (King Quincy x Queen Essence) from Trolls World Tour I was dazzled and fascinated by these two from the moment I saw them. They’re just like...the coolest parents I have ever seen! *o* And the fact they were confirmed being related to Cooper himself (I had a real hunch they would be, even before seeing TWT) being actual parents and making him a prince, made me love Quincy and Essence even more! ;w; They are just so full of love and never gave up searching for Cooper the moment his egg was snatched - it just made my heart burst with so many feels when they reunited and Cooper found what he was looking for~ T//w//T Not to mention, they’re the best parents-in-law, a troll like me could ever ask for! <3

3. Bandit x Chilli from Bluey I’ve recently got into Bluey around February this year and whilst watching a few clips and episodes, I can see why a lot of people (especially adults) LOVE this show, because it has a lot of real life issues and situations many can relate to, with adults and children. Chilli is such a loving and caring mum, along with Bandit being such a cool, funny and loving dad, who just love their kids to bits, no matter what - taking part in their games and teaching them along the way. Bluey is 1,000% x better than Peppa Pig, HANDS DOWN!! She and Bingo are such adorable siblings together, and I love how Chilli and Bandit met in the episode, ‘Fairy Tale’. Also, Bandit is up at the top on my list of ‘Best Dads Ever’ with King Quincy and if there was an award for ‘Best Dad Of The Year’, both of them would win! >w<

4. Wade x Ember from Elemental  What can I say? I am in LOVE with these two cuties!! >//W//< They are my newest fave ship and they have the most adorable fanart, WITH FANMADE STEAM BABIES, EEEEE~!! ;//U//; I’ve seen clips of the movie and their relationship just blossoming through the good times and bad, confessing their love to one another and then their first kiss near the end was just...magnifique! The icing on the elemental cake for these two~ Wade is the biggest, lovable softie I have ever seen! okay so i just saw Secrets of Dumbledore and I am... emotional... I’ll put my spoiler thoughts (mainly about grindeldore... tbh ALL about grindeldore) under a cut if anyone cares but first I just want to say... wow... the heart of this movie really WAS a gay love story and... it was far more gay than I even expected. Jude and Mads carried this movie on their backs. They are perfect. Jude is my favorite iteration of Albus Dumbledore and Mads really brought out a humanity and also a strange... gentle cruelty in Gellert that I am absolutely in love with... more thoughts (SPOILERS) under the cut.

my thoughts might be all over the place, but I’ll try to keep it as organized as possible.

1) The Restaurant Scene - God. I knew it was the first scene but... what a way to start. I’d seen the scene in clips online already obviously, but somehow seeing it in the theater in full... it was even more... I don’t know if romantic is the word I would use, but you could FEEL how much Gellert and Albus loved each other and had missed each other over the last few decades. Jude and Mads’ chemistry feels like they’ve been working together since the very beginning of these movies. I BUY that they’re in love with each other. 

I enjoyed how Gellert almost seemed to... beat around the bush over what they were to each other, almost as if he wasnt’ sure if he should say it out loud, especially around people (even if those people are lesser being muggles, of course), but Albus was just like “no. I was in love with you.” and finally then Gellert was just like “yes”. I also liked seeing both of them just... allow themselves that brief moment of basking in each other’s company for the first time in what probably feels like forever to them before they get down to why they’re actually meeting.

I really do get a sense of Gellert feeling betrayed by Albus through this movie (and I’ll speak more on that at the end as well). He loved Albus as well and Albus turned his back on their plans (and tries even to brush off how it was HE who originally said that it was their birthright to rule). Albus doesn’t quite put all the blame on Gellert, yet at the same time, he still wants to deny just how much he played a hand in it because he never went through with their plans--and yet, as Gellert points out, they were his plans.

2) Albus, Newt, Theseus - I really just want to say again how upfront Albus is about his feelings for Gellert. It makes me wonder if certain scenes were rewritten from the novels, if Albus would be less... ashamed of himself in the future. Maybe not though. I know Harry was important to him and he was afraid that Harry would think badly of him if he knew so maybe that’s where the difference is with Newt for instance? Newt is clearly important to Albus, but not quite to the level that Harry was. Ofc, Harry was also a child, whereas Newt is a full grown adult. But who knows.

And on a slightly related yet unrelated note, the line “You must trust me. Even if every instinct is telling you not to.” was so good. I loved it. Jude DELIVERED that line and it really made me go “wow... This is Albus Dumbledore” because... yes, Albus is a kind person, but he can also be manipulative. I know Albus has a lot of haters (i’ve never been one of them and never will be), because he IS so manipulative... but he is manipulative while having the *best intensions*. Also, his HUMOR. Like for the very first time, I felt Albus Dumbledore from the books. Not that they didn’t do a GREAT job as Albus in the HP movies (minus that DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?! instance which absolutely was not the fault of the actor), but I never felt the same humor from the *writing* in the HP movies as Albus had in the novels. But I absolutely feel it here. 

I do have one request tho. Can we PLEASE get Jude Law in some purple????

3) Albus and Aberforth (& the tale of the battle of 1899) - I’m sorry but seeing Albus and Aberforth together was one of my FAVORITE things from this movie. Like it was absolutely HILARIOUS seeing how different they are and how they interact and its basically exactly how I imagined it in my head. Albus trying to be nice (even when he’s kinda exasperated over Aberforth) and Aberforth’s passive aggressiveness (the talk about Ariana’s favorite dish. “she used to beg mother to make it” “yeah i lived in that house too. i KNOW what went on”.

And before I get to THAT specific line from the tale (you know the one if you saw it), I just wanna talk about the actual battle first. So does anyone else feel that they slightly changed it? Or maybe just Albus didn’t say the full thing? Cuz up till now it’s been Gellert started torturing Aberforth and Albus tried to defend him and Ariana “wanted to help” or something, but Albus said “Aberforth raised his wand which was foolish. I raised my wand which was even more foolish. And Gellert sat there laughing because he was the only one who knew that Ariana had come downstairs.” So from this it makes it sound like the killing blow to Ariana HAD to be either Albus or Aberforth. Albus didn’t even mention Gellert torturing Aberforth in this version of the story (and I kinda like the idea of Gellert literally just sitting there laughing his ass off as the brothers fought, but it also makes me wonder how the aftermath of that would turn out and how it’d end between Albus and Gellert). Also one more point about Aberforth... I much prefer Aurelius being teenage Aberforth’s love child than their brother. Like okay, I buy that (Albus and Aberforth were BOTH getting down that summer...), but does anyone else think that they literally retconned Aurelius being their brother just because novel fans threw a FIT over how much that’d fuck the original time line??? lmaooo I do. And finally that line - “We were going to leave together.” “We were going to leave together.” “WE WERE GOING TO LEAVE TOGETHER.” guys they were going to leave together.

Like they never said this before. Originally it was always Gellert was mad because he thought Aberforth and Ariana was “holding my brilliant brilliant brother back”. We were left with the feeling that Albus was somewhat bitter (even if he DID choose to take on the responsibility) that he’d have to stay home to care for his siblings, literally forcing Aberforth to return to school even though Aberforth offered to drop out to care for Ariana. This is the first time that we hear that Gellert actually managed to talk Albus into leaving with him. 

Holy shit.

They were going to leave together.

Also I can’t quite remember which scene this was in but “the summer we fell in love”........................ the summer WE fell in love. WE FELL IN LOVE. THEY FELL IN LOVE! TOGETHER! WE! THE TWO OF THEM! TOGETHER! WITH EACH OTHER!

4) The Battle of Hearts - I almost don’t know where to start. This scene broke my heart. The moment the pact broke and the two of them started to battle... and we could see the pact slowly falling in the background. They were so desperate, yet at the same time, the battle felt so half-hearted. You could FEEL that they didn’t want to do this, even though they both moved at the same exact time. They got closer and closer until they grabbed hold of each other... the way their hearts beat as one. Their hands over each other’s chest--they could feel and hear each other’s hearts. The way they were staring at each other was just... SO HEART-BREAKING... like there is no other word for this scene. They both love each other. They love each other so much, but their sense of responsibility (both so different, two opposite sides of the spectrum) is too great to ignore. they are on opposing sides of the war. Albus wishes he didn’t have to fight Gellert, and Gellert wishes that Albus were still by his side.

The way they stare at each other as they grab one another, their hearts pounding, the spells from their wand fading as neither of them can bring themselves to casting the finishing blow. Either one of them could, but both clearly didn’t want to... and the way they let go of each other and turned away from one another at once was so... powerful. Like... my god. Anyone who doubts Gellert’s feelings like.... just absolute denial on their part. If Gellert didn’t love Albus as Albus loves him, he would’ve cast the final curse to take Albus down. He could’ve, because Albus couldn’t, and that’s the whole story--we know this. Albus couldn’t bring himself to face Gellert. He avoided it. And unless they screw with the timeline, Albus will continue to avoid it until 1945 and Gellert’s threat is too great. The blood trot was an excuse to avoid it; no longer does Albus have that excuse, but here... he had the perfect chance to defeat Gellert, just as Gellert had to defeat him, and he couldn’t take it.

Neither of them want to fight each other.

And then Gellert’s yell; “Who will love you now, Dumbledore?” and it’s such a pointed use of “Dumbledore”. I think Gellert knew that Albus would never be by his side again, but he could almost pretend otherwise. Using Albus’ surname here was Gellert trying to break their bond further. Their bond is already broken. The blood trot is on the ground, shattered into 2, but that trot was just a pact--in the end, it didn’t change their feelings. As I said, the trot was an excuse, now there isn’t one. They still can’t defeat each other, but Gellert tries to toss their broken bond in Albus’ face with the use of his surname. They once had each other. Now they don’t. Now Albus is alone as much as they both know he still loves Gellert.

“I was never your enemy. Not now. Not ever.” This is to the entire wizarding community... but i sorta take it as almost being mostly to Albus. What they had wanted was to be together. Gellert the moment he met Albus and fell in love with him, he wanted to rule by Albus’ *side*--and it was Albus’ idea after all. They weren’t enemies, but lovers now torn across the battlefield.

5) The Wedding - this isn’t really about the wedding but... Albus (and I once again applaud Jude Law here) had so many feelings coming from him in this scene. There was a happiness, of course, for Queenie and Jacob. But there was also a wistfulness and a sadness about him. Jude said so much in this scene without saying anything at all. I could feel that Albus was thinking of his one time lover, of the life that they had once dreamed of having together. Albus is a lover of love. We knew this through the harry potter books and now it’s even more prominent since the heart and soul of this movie was a love story between him and Gellert. He gave his entire heart and being to Gellert. Gellert is his soulmate in so many ways, and Albus knows this. And it makes me think of how Albus really is alone, right up until he dies. Of course, he has important people around him, but he never loves again. How can he love again when his heart still belongs to Gellert? I truly don’t think he ever even considers giving it away again. I think that’s for multiple reasons.

Obviously, because he still loves Gellert, but perhaps he even feels betrayed by his own love and heart. His heart had chosen someone... who had so much darkness within him and though Albus once thought of ruling “for the greater good” we know Albus and we know that he’d never want to go to the levels that Gellert does. It’s not in him, and he knows he shouldn’t, but his heart still loves Gellert. That’s not something that’ll ever just... go away. So perhaps Albus through his life thinks its almost better to not let himself love. He has people he cares for, but he always keeps them at a length, never letting them get too close.

No one ever really got to see the real Albus Dumbledore other than Gellert Grindelwald when you think about it.

And seeing Albus watch the festivities from outside, in the cold snow, happy and wistful and sad, but never letting himself join in... is just another heart-break on top of the heart-break from the battle. 

We know how this story ends for the both of them and though the world might get their “happy ending”, the tragedy of it is that the hero of the story, Albus Dumbledore, never does get his... his happy ending, when you think about it, might not have ever existed at all.

Shigaraki’s been scribbling a lot of shit down in notebooks in AtBI, which got me thinking about his stationary preferences, which means I spent way more time than I should have this week looking at different notebooks trying to decide what his go-to would be.

I cannot imagine many people are interested in this analysis, but I’m giving it to you anyway.

1. Size. This was the biggest consideration, for a number of reasons. I assume our little gremlin man is going to want something that says ‘convenient to shove in your pocket with your dead dad’s hand’ which immediately ruled out any full size notebooks. But, at the same time he’s got those big-ass yaoi hands and a destructive quirk, so anything too small is probably going to just lead to frustration, which means none of that passport-sized nonsense. Seems like something right around A5 size (~8 x 5 in/21 x 14 cm) would be the sweet spot; small enough to shove in a hoodie or even the pocket of a pair of normal men’s jeans, but big enough to not be a pain in the ass.

2. Thickness/flexibility. Very related to the above. Assuming that he’s going to be periodically shoving this beat up thing in some pocket means I ruled out anything with a hard cover; I also pretty quickly ruled out anything with a high page count, because anything too bulky will take up space, and won’t nicely conform around his thigh when he’s shoving it in the pocket of his jeans or whatever. So, he’d need something thin--probably somewhere between a 50-80 page count. He also seems like the type to like folding the cover all the way back or whatever for ease of use. Technically a spiral notebook would do the trick in that case, but would be way more uncomfortable to haul around in a pocket, and might not be quite as flexible if it’s getting forced into odd shapes. So, in addition to a soft cover, he’d need something that was thread or glue-bound.

3. Line ruling. There’s a lot of options for what pages look like--college or wide rule, graph paper, dot grids--and I think he’d want none of them. There’s a really good meta somewhere on all the newspaper clippings he has up in his room, and how he’s probably a visual learner, and I pretty much agree with that. I think he’d prefer blank pages so that he doesn’t necessarily have to jot things down in any neat order, and can just kind of let chaos unfold on the page as he marks stuff down or processes information on paper.

4. Aesthetic. This is not to say that I think Shigaraki cares about aesthetic stationary; the opposite in fact. I think he’d specifically go for something minimalist and utilitarian--basically blank covers, no frills or bells or whistles or anything.

So, after all that and a lot of googling, I was left with three contenders:

1. Muji Thin Pocket Notebook. This one is slightly smaller than an A5 size, but is thin with a nice shape and obviously very portable. But it lost points because it is a little small, and because I don’t think Shig would be into the built in bookmark thing. I think he’s very much a ‘dog-ear relevant pages’ kind of guy.

2. Muji Paper Bind. These actually come in a couple different styles, like the standard linked there or a similar one with rounded corners.

3. Moleskine Cahier, large size. The large size of these is actually A5 sized paper, so exactly what we’re looking for. They’re also completely unadorned--plain cover without even the little stripe the Muji notebooks have--and the only frill they offer is a little folder insert in the back (or, what would be the front for a Japanese user.) 

After ruling out number one thanks to the tinier size and bookmark, I… well I ordered the other two for comparison. Don’t mind that the cahier in the pic is lined—that’s for me since I needed a lined notebook, lol.

As you can see, the cahier is a little smaller than the muji one. I also found that the binding was more flexible—it’s less squared off than the muji, making it easier to lie flat, or fold in half. The cover of the cahier is also a little softer, which is another plus. And, it comes in a 3-pack, which is super convenient if you’re a NEET who hates running errands.

Even after all that, I was admittedly a little hesitant to commit to a non-Japanese brand, but it does look like Moleskine stuff is common enough there, too. So, in the end I think the Moleskin cahier (large size, with plain pages) wins for being a villainous boy’s notebook of choice. I do think he’d go with black or the plain brown as far as colors though, if he could be bothered to do more than just grab the first ones he saw.

if you had a say in how the next eps play out then what would they look like and focus on?

whew. to be honest i wish i could have had a say in how the previous episodes played out instead 🥴 but okay, considering what we have got set up right now, i would:

1. set a focus on isi’s gender identity exploration, have them go to a queer youth group meeting, where it’s discussed openly so they can get some clarity on themselves in that aspect. include a conversation about it with their parents where they’re understanding and supportive (i wouldn’t want to expect any less from how they’ve been set up so far)

2. absolutely not have them make up with either lou or constantin by the end. cut constantin off from the instas, ideally have him mention thinking about or already going to therapy in the last episode cause everyone deserves a chance to get better. include a calm conversation with lou where isi cuts her off as well cause of all the shit she’s pulled him into in the past 2 months. and also cause she’s annoying. i’d have her move somewhere so we don’t have to see her in s8 if there is one

3. show closeness with kieu my, zoë and finn. girltalks, chill hangouts where we see what connects them and why they’re friends. have them discuss constantin and settle on the fact that he’s not unredeemable, but he needs to heal before he can be friends with anyone like that again

4. include a moment of realization clip with isi stalking sascha on instagram or going through their messages where we see that final shift from ‘i can’t lose my best friend’ to ‘i can’t lose my best friend and the person i’m in love with’

5. have sascha be present in almost every single of the remaining clips. not literally, but like, in spirit. isi’s parents mention him at the dinner table, umut asks about him, ava mentions him in a conversation. it would show how intertwined their lives actually are; wherever isi goes, there’s traces of sascha. i’d use this to compensate a bit for the lack of development we got with them.

6. similarly to the previous point, i’d throw in a lesson about proper treatment of other people in as many clips as possible. have ismail reflect and feel genuinely sorry, not for themselves, but for the way they’ve treated ava, nora and sascha. show how they’ve changed and bring out that kindness that they have inside them with full force

7. add at least two more isi singing clips. eren has a beautiful voice and i feel very connected to isi when they sing. i’d have them write a song and sing to sascha, whether as part of their final apology or as just a loving moment between them where ismail in their own way shows him that they care. sascha builds for isi, isi writes for sascha.

8. cemevi clip!!!!! more exploration of isi’s religion, a discussion about gender identity in relation to it, ending on a positive note.

9. have another clear discussion with ava where ismail shows proper remorse and apologizes again, even though ava seems to be fully okay with them right now (which never should’ve happened after just that one clip; i had high hopes and was almost certain that discussion wasn’t genuinely over after one conversation…disappointment) & have them apologize to nora for the way they treated her in s5

10. give sascha and isi all the classic skam couple clips; first kiss, the morning after, hiding from everyone before announcing they’re a couple, dancing and singing together & a cute clip with isi’s family seeing them as a couple for the first time

11. sashisi new year’s kiss. as a treat

i genuinely don’t know how i would fit all of this into three weeks so lucky for us, it’s hypothetical.

I have some long and rambling thoughts on Chicago Fire and the future of Sylvie and Brettsey:

All summer long I told myself that if they broke up Brettsey, I’d be done watching CF, and would completely disengage with the show. Despite my best efforts and the terrible/illogical way they broke them up, I can’t seem to make myself disengage. While I haven’t seen any of the episodes this season, I’m still watching the clips with Sylvie on Twitter, and still following along with what’s going on. Even though I know deep down that Sylvie’s “maybe someday” and Kara’s “at least for now” (https://www.nbc.com/nbc-insider/chicago-fire-season-11-episode-2-kara-killmer-talks-brett-and-casey) are 99.9% likely just baiting, I can’t help but still hope that they’re endgame.

Something that I can’t stop thinking about is how Sylvie has been pushed to the background again since her breakup, and we can’t reason that it’s because of the actor’s pregnancy like we could last season. So what in the world are they doing with Sylvie? They put out all these articles saying that she had to break up with Matt to focus on herself and her career, but other than the one episode of paramedicine we got (which was used to show she was throwing herself into work to deal with the breakup), Sylvie hasn’t had any career storylines and is being written as a supporting/background character. I’ve seen people on Twitter and Reddit say “it’s an ensemble show, she’s not always gonna have a lot of focus and screen time.” Well, she’s one of the main characters and always has been, so for the most part, yeah she is. Plus her being pushed to the background happened as soon as Jesse left, so it‘s been going on for an entire year now, not just the last few episodes.

In my opinion, there are only two reasons why the show would break up Brettsey. First and most likely, they want to put her with someone else. The writers don’t seem to be capable of writing Sylvie any real storylines that aren’t romantic or at least related to a love interest, except for maybe in her first couple seasons. It seems pretty obvious to me that they only gave her paramedicine as a reason for not leaving with Matt, especially since we’ve only had 2 episodes (10x09 and 11x02) on it since Jesse left. Other than 10x09, the only storylines she’s had since Jesse left were about her and Matt (eps 6, 7, 10, 11, 15, & 22 of S10, and eps 1, 2, & 3 of S11), otherwise she was just a supporting or background character. My best guess is that she’ll stay in the background until they introduce a love interest for her in the 2nd half of the season.

However, the second reason for breaking up Brettsey could be to set up for a dramatic reunion in the future. CF has always broken up their main ships and put them back together. Stellaride, Dawsey, and even Sylvie broke up and got back together with both both Antonio and Kyle. They are so repetitive with their storylines, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case. Of course with Jesse not being on the show, a Brettsey reunion likely means Sylvie leaving. I can’t see Kara wanting to leave (I thought she might last season, but it seems unlikely now since she returned), but can’t help but wonder if the show runners might have her written off at the end of the season. They seem to have absolutely no idea what to write for Sylvie anymore and if a love interest isn’t introduced for her after the mid season finale, I’d say the chances are actually pretty high. They wrote off Mills and Otis because “there weren’t any stories left to tell,” and the actors weren’t as highly billed as Kara is. With all the money issues NBC Universal and Wolf Entertainment seem to be having, I can’t imagine them continuing to pay Kara to be in the background. Tbh, they might have wanted to write her out after last season, but knew how bad it would look if they fired an actress while/right after she was pregnant.

Just for fun, I’m going to predict that they’re going to go down the same path as Castle did. They’re gonna write Sylvie off at the end of the season and then end up getting cancelled too. Their last renewal came in February of 2020, I’m so curious to see what happens as we get closer to another renewal decision. A lot of people assume they’ll be renewed because the ratings are still pretty high, but that’s only one part of the equation. Shows tend to get more expensive to make as they get older because actors get raises. It’s pretty clear from the rescue scenes that their budget has dramatically declined and with so many other actors leaving Wolf Entertainment shows, it seems like they might just be trying to stay afloat at this point. Plus with NBC possibly axing their 10pm hour, they’d have 3 shows they’d have to cancel (New Amsterdam is on its last season) to fit the new schedule, and that’s without adding any new shows. I honestly just hope that if it is the last season for CF that they will have notice and be able to wrap things up and give everyone proper closure.

Sasha James 11/10, would be an ideal archivist, this plus her height is probably why the stranger monster targeted her before she could peak

I have a soft spot for any au that knows Sasha has never seen a brain cell in her life and that any unhinged!Sasha au is really just a regular Sasha au. Picture it with me. Sasha and Jon have parallel archivist tracks, until Sasha (my beloved show off) decides: you know what would make me more efficient at snooping? Becoming a Human Google. And things accelerate. The Web doesn't even need to bother with subtly magic lighters, it slaps all 14 marks on her at once by pulling up next to Sasha in a windowless van with "free secrets 👍" written on the side.

After the Unknowing, Sasha takes over the institute from Elias instead of Martin and Peter. With Tim dead, Jon in a coma, Martin lonely-snatched, Melanie compulsively homicidal, Daisy in the coffin, and Basira on autopilot, she quickly bonds with Rosie, the ultimate nosiness enabler. Sasha is a fully marked archivist for a good long while, but doesn't start the apocalypse right away because she's eager to read ALL the ominous notes Elias left, so the watcher's crown statement is in her to-be-read pile. When the apocalypse starts (Rosie: "Hey, Sasha, I just read something extra fucked up that Elias wrote, wanna see?" Sasha: "God yes."), she books it to become the pupil with Rosie as her anchor. Mayhapse Jon is just a normal eye avatar here and deeply invested in all of Sasha's eyepocalypse statements, so it's Sasha and her plus-three? Mayhapse it's a race across the eyepocalypse wasteland between Archivist Sasha and Archivist Jon to usurp Jonah and become the pupil?

Tim Stoker 2/10 dude's here for a good time, not a long time

The only way I see this working is if Elias disguises not-stranger clues as circus related so Tim is motivated to investigate. Otherwise, his archival assistants are way more curious than him and disobey his direct orders to 🍹chill🏝. Jon, Sasha, and Martin inadvertently bring marks home to him like cats bring home dead birds. He asserts his agency when he decides the best course of action? Actually? Just blow up the archives. This unfortunately puts him in a false sense of security, and Elias makes him read the watcher's crown statement by cat fishing him on grindr and sending the ritual as a dm mid conversation.

Daisy Tonner - 9/10 archivist, would have started doomsday before she was at the archivist job long enough to use her PTO

Daisy already had a lot of experience hunting down fear-entity-related people in sectioned cases, which means she possibly canonically already has all the marks from just hunting avatars who use their powers in self defense. The reason she lost one point is because she's too much of a jock to read, only nerds are culpable to watcher crown statements, so this would be the only delay but oh what a delay it will be.

Melanie King - 7/10 archivist, points awarded for achieving her breakthroughs by smashing her head against a wall until she literally breaks through, points deducted for doing so in full clown makeup.

If Jon got a handful of marks by just asking anoying questions in the same room as an avatar, imagine how much faster Melanie would get marks by bringing her trademark Chaotic Brat personality on fear entity investigations. The apocalypse would have started in like two seasons: one season to hire her off the streets and establish shakey, complex relationships with her new assistants (Jon and Sasha put in the time with the institute but were passed over on this promotion for some random YouTuber (plus they're tighter with Tim and Martin, so proletarian solidarity against the boss)).

Then a second season to stab every mark and get stabbed in return. Melanie would blitz through all 14 marks because what precious little impulse control she starts with is slowly replaced with slaughter juice. One fun moral ambiguity to explore could be if Melanie tries to use her new, dangerous Eye/Slaughter powers to revive her reputation and platform in the supernatural community now that she can, ya know, identify supernatural things for the first time ever. Does she acknowledge her entire career up to her hospital episode apparently only investigated fake sightings? A better question to ask is whether Basira, Tim, and Jon ever let her live down how Ghost Hunt UK's professional dignity was contingent on the legitimacy of her sCiEnTiFiC gHoSt eQuIpMeNt in those episodes, so the temperature spikes set to dramatic music were well and truly just temperature spikes and dramatic music. Sasha found a clip of that music playing as Melanie narrates "it's a message... from the other side..." and made it as her text tone.

Also, it would be hilarious if Melanie tried to kill Jonah on sight in the panopticon, once again botched assassination attempt number 1,963,538, and then Jon quietly snuck in to finish the job on his first try just like in canon.

Basira Hussain 3/10 archivist, her eye alignment manifests as office gossip, like a normal person

Basira has the most formidable super power of all: the power to nope tf out of any conversation or plan she wants. She therefore would probably take 10x longer to start the apocalypse than any other archivist because her fatal flaw is refusal to directly engage with a lot of personally difficult things (like the slaughter bullet surgery she organized, Daisy In General, etc). The marks will be slow going if she resists putting her safety on the line or invests time in making good plans (which is smart, but unhelpful for dooming humanity). She would for sure still get marked and end the world because once she's convinced of a plan (aka Elias convinces her of a plan), she's ruthlessly efficient. So I'd stay out of her way that last year or two, she marks the entities right back at them.

Martin Blackwood 2/10 archivist, considering a prerequisite for creepy eye avatar staring is the ability to make eye contact.

S1 Archivist Martin would probably dote too much on the employees under him to be hugely susceptible to Elias' isolation-dependant manipulation. Any progress Martin inadvertently achieves toward the watcher's crown goal would have to be contingent on it helping his loved ones, which is perfect fuel for a "corrupted by good intentions" arc. This would be key because Martin has superb bullshit and manipulation detection, making the marks are tricky but not impossible to orchistrate considering Jon can't stay put in a safe corner for 10 minutes and Martin's mother would refuse to stay with him where she's safe from avatar threats.

Imagine the petty drama when Jon and Sasha learn he got the promotion they wanted because he lied on his CV.

Other than that, Martin would be even worse about pit stops on the apocalypse road trip than Jon because his Kill Bill mode would have no off switch. Does Archivist!Martin and his anchor Jon ever reach the panopticon? Eventually, but not until after they lose points for significantly reducing the apocalypse fear quantity. Would Annabelle survive to deliver her cryptic MaCHiNAtIoNs and achieve the Web's goal? Hard No, additional point reduction for neutralizing the multiverse invasion. Points potentially earned back if Martin's Web connection is strong enough to come up with the multiverse invasion plan on his own, though.

Georgie Barker 4/10, as a fearless coward, all the fear she feeds to the entities would be khaki flavored. They'd get their apocalypse, but they probably wouldn't enjoy the meal.

Similar to Basira, Georgie has the super power to Fuck This Shit I'm Out. She would overall be a subpar humanity damning archivist; a major archivist success factor of Jon's is that he has enough affective empathy to be afraid with every statement giver he reads, so when Jon archives a statement, he unintentionally contributes to the fear soup seasoning. Combined with how Georgie doesn't want anything to do with entity drama, so any corruption specific to the watcher's crown would stagnate. Even her casual exposition conversations would go like

Georgie: "I've connected no dots."

Melanie: "you've connected a lot of dots??"

Georgie: "I've connected shit all dots."

The reason she gets one more point than Basira is because Georgie's fatal flaw is the passive observer quality the Eye tried to stoke in Jon. Her level of engagement oscillates between two extremes, impulsive over commitment and judging from a distance. This would probably lead her to geting involved just long enough for her involvement to become irreversible, at which point she would try to cut that shit out of her life after it's trapped her. She'd linger, barricading herself on the margins of this problem as the marks that are targeted at her slowly tally up until boom. Apocalypse is on and she only half understands what's happening.

Georgie would wander around an apocalypse hellscape confused, but vibes and physical health fully intact. Anchor!Melanie would have quite the emotional journey starting with Georgie on that pedestal Melanie placed her, and ending with a slaughter avatar stabbing the person who convinced her to work on her slaughter inclination.

DNP’s commentary is so good and Phil is so fond? Especially during the clips with Dan’s video. 🥺 I’ll be watching this one more often!

Day Thirty-Four

My day was all about current events today, which means it was awesome and also slightly exhausting.

I had my GOV students read some news articles about upcoming budget and debt ceiling fights (since last week we discussed the structure of powers of Congress, the legislative process, and the federal budget), which we discussed. I fielded a lot of questions because that’s complex stuff, and led a discussion about the strategy involved in these negotiations in congress, the reasons why budget stuff tends to get kicked until after midterms, etc, etc... Then we read about the recent OPEC meeting, the NOPEC bill, and the bill Rep. Khanna introduced to end arms sales to Saudi Arabia. Again, I was getting at what the powers of Congress are and how they’re used, how that process actually works in practice, but also at how other countries try to influence the US economy in the lead-up to elections since a lot of voters base their choices on the state of the economy. It’s “see the whole board” stuff, and they’re beginning to grasp how it’s done, how to spot the interconnectedness of things. So it was a very cool class. 

My World students did current events write-ups last week, so I started class today by asking them to share what they’d written about. I said they could read their write-ups aloud, read parts of them, briefly sum them up, whatever they wanted to do. In my Block 2 section, I had students do all of the above; I love how many of them volunteered to share, and to discuss the news. It was a lot of fun. In my Block 3 section, it was rowdy. A couple of students just kept blurting out their reactions or questions in response to their classmates, and I know it’s a combination of genuine curiosity and attention-seeking (the volume at which it’s done tends to be the way to spot the difference), so I had to get them back to raising their hands to speak, which took some effort. I also had to keep the discussion from veering into outlandish hypotheticals- it’s something many of them are fond of- and keep the tangents from going too wild (like, they went on one about life insurance that got oddly heated because I told them faking a death- or actually killing somebody- to get  the insurance money was, y’know, a crime; they were convinced no one would be able to prove it). It’s fun, but also kind of exhausting!

There was also a whole conversation about celebrity culture, and why i don’t teach a unit on that. I said I find celebrity stuff boring, one of my students said, “Yeah, unless it’s BTS, Miss M!” I laughed and conceded that point, and added that it’s just my opinion. They can be totally into celebrity culture, they can write their current events about Kardashian drama, or Tom Brady’s divorce, or whatever if they really want to. I just have other things I base my units on, and things the state requires me to teach, and only so much time to do it all. 

And, with that, I moved on back to the unit’s work on religions, and had everyone annotate an article about Hinduism and Buddhism. We discussed it, then I showed a video clip of a day in the life of a Hindu priest. Cue another discussion because there’s a symbol in the Hindu temple that looks like a swastika, and that was startling to several of them. And cue a discussion about language because I used the word “Nazism” while explaining what the symbol really was, and a student asked if that meant the Nazis made their own religion because the names of a lot of religions end with “-ism,” so I explained that suffix can indicate other kinds of beliefs, such as political beliefs, as well. 

Yay for all that learning! Phew!

At the end of the day, I was talking to Ms. A (we have the same prep time) when the results of freshman student council elections were announced. I don’t know for sure it’s related, but a few boys took off running through the halls right afterwards, stomping as loudly as possible, and shoving each other into the walls. So I went out and, in my very loud and scary Teacher Voice, told them to get their hands off each other and go back to class. Or, at least, I meant to say that. What I actually said was, “Get you hands off each other and go away!”

So that’s slightly harsher than what was in my head, but it was effective. They made themselves scarce. A handful of my ninth graders were next door in Mr. F’s room, so they heard me, which will do things to my reputation (as they’ve never heard me yell since I don’t do it in class). We’ll see if they have any comments tomorrow.

Since an anon asked me to tell them about the factual inaccuracies in the latest AK*M episode I’ll make a numbered list a la Jenny Nicholson, under the cut.

1. Phoebe says at the 30:55 mark that the contract they signed in September of 1969 would require them to put out SEVEN ALBUMS PER YEAR. I thought she misspoke, but no, she said it twice, with emphasis. This is not true as far as I can tell; they cite their sources in the show notes but don’t notate which things they refer to, so if it’s in there somewhere, I haven’t been able to find it yet, though I’m still looking. Beatlesbible says it was two albums per year, though there’s no source; however, I found this in And In The End by Ken McNab that seems to agree with that:

2. At the 32 minute mark Phoebe says, “They have a whole month, so it’s not even that wild for Paul to say, ‘Okay listen, it’s January 3rd, we have until the 30th. So we have a whole freakin month to come up with a decent idea, like, we should be able to do that, guys.’” In the opening montage of Get Back, it is made explicitly clear that the dress rehearsal was meant to happen on the 18th, with the shows on the 19th and 20th. Also, on the 6th, Paul says they only have twelve more days, but since they’re not originally working weekends (possibly because of the film crew’s union requirements? not sure about that), it’s actually even less.

3. I talked about the Ringo and Paul quote in this post; the talk about this quote in the podcast starts at 1:13:08. Like I said in that post, they could just be severely misremembering it, or they might be conflating that quote with another one I don’t know about. Again, they list their sources, but not what points in the conversation the sources relate to. So I’m still looking for a possible other quote, but I haven’t yet found it.

4. They attempt to refute the idea that Ringo walked out in 68 because Paul wouldn’t stop criticizing his drumming by misrepresenting Maureen Starkey’s interview in 1988. They represent it like this at 1:22:35:

Thalia: Another thing that has been folded into this ‘Paul was the problem child of the Beatles’ narrative is the idea that he was alienating his bandmates with egomaniac and diva behavior. An example of how this has been retrofit to support this narrative is the way that fans have begun to blame Paul for Ringo’s quitting in 1968. Phoebe: There apparently was at least one day where Ringo came home from the studio during the White album complaining about Paul, because Maureen gave an interview later where she recounts that one day he came home and he said, ‘Paul’s a fucking moron.’ She used ‘freaking,’ but I think in one interview she said ‘fucking.’ Iris: But, from Ringo’s point of view, at least, that wasn’t the cause of his walkout.

Then they play a clip of Ringo refuting this idea in 2000 on the Howard Stern show. But, here’s what the Maureen Starkey interview actually says:

Q: Were you there when Ritchie walked out?

A: No, but I was surprised when he came home so soon. He told me to pack my bags without giving me much of an explanation; but I could see a look of distress in his eyes. It was just painful. I fought with him for a while, I really did and I told him that it was foolish to go away so soon, but I could tell he didn't really care at that point. I do remember him muttering something about Paul under his breath- something really dirty which made me believe that Paul and Ritchie had a row.

Q: Can you recall what Ritchie said?

A: They were all curse words. I don't really want to repeat -

Q: (interrupts) Just do the best you can.

A: (laughs and puts her hands to her face) Ohhh.. it's easy for you to

say.

Q: (Whistles) Wow! Were they that bad?

A: Well pretty much. I will never forget what he muttered as he folded his socks and put them in the suitcase. He said: "Paul is a freaking moron."

Q: You used freaking instead of the "F" word?

A: (laughs) Yes I did. He put so much stress on that word that it shocked me to hear him say it because he usually isn't like that.

Q: Did you know why he left? Did he tell you?

A: From what I heard him tell Peter [Sellers] on the yacht, Paul wanted a certain drum pattern on a song and Ritchie was just fed up with his coaching him too much. He usually did something totally opposite of what Paul specifically told him to do, and Paul would get upset.

BL Drama Questions (questions by @pose4photoml, I wasn't tagged but this seemed fun and I had thoughts.)

1. If you had to watch one drama forever what would it be? I always say I should rewatch stuff and then rarely ever do… But my most rewatched BL series is Cherry Magic with Semantic Error as a close second.

2. If you could change the ending of a drama which one would it be? Kissable Lips comes to mind. I never watched the last episode all the way through because I spoiled myself of the ending and said fuck that. Or I’d have changed the last episode of Old Fashion Cupcake to include a kiss because it would have been the missing icing on the (cup)cake.

3. Name your favorite drama and tell who your favorite character was. Well, if I have to pick from a show that I absolutely love, I guess I have to go with Adachi from Cherry Magic because I relate to him a lot and he is my sweet baby boy. If we’re listing favourite characters without taking into account whether I love the show they’re from, then the list would be a lot longer (Vegas and Pete from KinnPorsche, Win from Until We Meet Again and Yok from Not Me.)

4. Name a drama you dropped within the first few episodes ~ we all have at least one! Well, I’m very quick to drop a show if I don’t like it and I get bored easily, so I have a few of them… Until We Meet Again (I LOVE WinTeam and have watched their compilation several times but for me the rest of the series was a snooze fest and the furthest I got was ep 5), Oxygen (also too slow for me), 2gether (just plain boring), Cutie Pie (not enough plot to be interesting and I only actually liked Perth’s character 😅), I Promised You the Moon (just… no) and My Engineer (I’d seen RamKing’s story before but the main couple was not it for me). I've also dropped a few shows right before the end with only a couple episodes to go, for example Love Stage!! (Thai version), Tasty Florida and My Sweet Dear.

5. Name a popular drama you've never watched and why? TharnType because it’s problematic. MewGulf’s chemistry is evident from the clips I’ve seen but I have no desire to watch the whole thing. There are also many BL classics that I haven’t watched and probably never will.

6. Name a drama you regret watching. Like I said, I’m quick to drop shows so I don’t remember having actual regrets about finishing a show. Some of them might have been quite forgettable and underwhelming but not exactly bad. There have been a few short films though that made me go ”why did I even bother?”

7. Name a drama you thought you’d never watch but did and did you end up liking it? Secret Crush On You. I don’t handle second-hand embarrassment well AT ALL but the characters ended up winning me over, so much so that I tolerated the embarrassment and white-knuckled through it and ended up liking it quite a bit.

8. Name a pairing you want to see? As in they haven’t been paired up before? Well see, here’s the thing. When I get attached to a pairing, I get so badly attached that I have difficulty watching them seperate in other shows, especially if they’re paired up with someone new. I need a lot of time in order to get over a pairing so that I can watch them in other things and with some pairs even time won’t help. So for example, no matter how much I adore both Boun and First (from Not Me), I have no desire to see them as a ship. (But Boun and First as BFFs in a show? Yes, sign me the fuck up because that would be glorious.) That being said, it would have to be people that are not part of an established ship that I like, so hmm… For some reason Toptap and Gunsmile popped into my head, I liked them both in 3 Will Be Free. That could be fun. When it comes to Korea, I wouldn’t mind seeing Jun (from k-pop group A.C.E, starred in Tinted With You) doing another BL after he comes back from the military but I’m not sure who I’d pair him with.

9. Name a pairing you didn’t think had chemistry? Don't murder me, but OhmFluke. Both in Until We Meet Again and Close Friend S1 (haven't watched the 2nd season yet), I just didn't feel any spark between them, it was too much on the platonic side for me. (I’m ace and I rarely feel romantic attraction either so I need to be smacked in the face with a couple’s chemistry, whether it's sweet and romantic or heated and passionate or a mix of both, because it’s the only way I get to experience it. 😅)

10. Name a pairing you have seen in another drama that you like? Do you mean a pairing I want to see in a new show? BibleBuild and FlukeFirst, in that order. Both pairs made me completely lose my mind and I don’t know if I’ll ever get over them. Absolutely insane chemistry, just *chef's kiss*. (BounPrem are also a favourite of mine, but they're getting Between Us.)
