Tbh? I don't like Paul. I don't want Paul. I understand that Paul serves an important narrative function and that Paul is the best possible ending for Camilla and Palamedes given their situation, personalities, and relationship. However what I really want is for Camilla and Palamedes to attend the ATN wedding as two individual humans and for Pal to be a lightweight who loses his tie in the garden fountain after three drinks and for Camilla to do exactly one shot with the group, keep Gideon from ripping the sleeves off her dress shirt, and absolutely kill it at lawn games during cocktail hour. Since this scenario is a wild tonal mismatch for the series and also Palamedes was already dead, this was unlikely to ever happen. However Paul is the final nail in the coffin for the theoretical existence of this scene and I can't help but resent them for that

tlt lang analysis update: it's driving me crazy thinking about sixth house linguists. like. i havent looked for it yet but im aware on new rho House is referred to as, well, House. if it's ever referred to as english im gonna go insane because they have greek and latin in canon so they absolutely have a way to decipher that word, but do they have enough knowledge of pre-resurrection history to know WHY it's called english? also, what in terms of a lingua franca? is it only the Houses that have a lingua franca? are there other languages within the Houses? im losing my fucking mind

One of the things I love about fandom, particularly for written or otherwise visually intangible works, is that you can see the most beautiful pieces of fanart that are just so profoundly not what you imagined for a scene or a character or a location. Like the angle is different or the lighting is different or the character's body language isn't how you imagined or the setting's completely changed. And I think it's so cool because it can make you reconsider how you see the work (both literally and on a broader interpretive scale) and see how this collective imagination of ours functions. I just love it.

Wow what a compelling story about relationships and identity! Plus I love the big cast of memorable and distinct characters. I swear, everyone feels like they have their own narrative voice and unique personality, with some incredibly entertaining dialogues and banter between them to boot. And the fact it's very, very gay definitely helps. I wonder what the author was up to before writing this...

And then he sobs “you killed joy” into John’s ear. And for a moment John is living ten thousand different lifetimes at once. And they stand next to him in every single one, M- and A-, Mercymorn the first and Augustine the first, joy and patience, side by side again and again and again. And in ten thousand lifetimes they’ve only ever agreed with each other twice. And it scared the shit out of John both times. And that’s when he realizes that the three of them have hated and loved each other for millennia and no matter what they forget, no matter what he does to them. It will always be Mercymorn and Augustine, together, disagreeing and spitting and shouting and glaring and on opposite sides but always, always together. And he loves them, John loves them. But hes already lost them both. When John killed Mercy, he killed them both. They were like binary stars, they only ever really worked when the other was also there. He was clinging to a man already half dead. And they are being dragged down and down together. And for a moment John thinks that this might finally be how it ends. Him and Augustine and Mercy. Together. How it was supposed to happen that very first time.

But just like that very first time, they get to go together and John is left behind. And it’s not fair and it never was and now it never will be.

hate that when I come close to finishing a series I really, really like I stop consuming it as much. give myself a small trickle of it every other day or week. very, very slowly. the series can’t end if I never finish it haa hha
