Dalam program tvN belum lama ini, Ji Chang Wook awalnya mengungkap rasa terima kasihnya kepada sang ibu yang merawatnya dengan sepenuh hati usai sang ayah meninggal.

- Ji Chang Wook menjadi bintang tamu program "You Quiz on the Block" yang disiarkan pada 24 Juli. Dalam kesempatan itu, aktor kelahiran tahun 1987 ini menguak masa lalu mirisnya semasa sekolah usai kematian ayahnya.

Chang Wook awalnya mengungkap rasa terima kasihnya kepada sang ibu yang merawatnya dengan sepenuh hati usai sang ayah meninggal. "Ayahku meninggal ketika aku masih kecil, jadi ibuku membesarkanku sendirian. Itu pasti sangat sulit baginya," ujarnya.

Selepas kematian ayahnya, ibu Chang Wook mengelola restoran kecil sendirian untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidup. "Dia menjalankan tempat barbekyu dan restoran sup ikan pedas sendirian. Ketika situasi ramai, aku akan membantunya melayani pelanggan," imbuhnya.

Recap of My Last Day in July

Hari ini dimulai dengan tidur malam sekitar jam 1 pagi. Bukan sesuatu yang aneh karena aku pun biasanya tidur antara jam 1 atau 2.

Aku terbangun jam 4.15an, masih sempat sholat malam tetapi biasanya aku bangun lebih awal lagi.

Setelah sholat subuh, mengaji, dan doa zikir pagi, biasanya aku curi waktu untuk kembali tidur. I couldn't do that this morning.

Aku sempat menyetrika baju dan langsung bersiap diri. Jam 6.30an, aku sudah meninggalkan kamar menuju kantor lab. Aku sempat sarapan dengan tenang.

Jam 7.30, aku sudah berada di kelas untuk mengisi pembahasan kasus materi dietetik dan selesai jam 11 siang.

Aku segera kembali ke lab, hanya untuk melanjutkan agenda berikutnya. Aku izin ga ikut rapat dan pergi ke Ngawi kota untuk menemani salah satu dosen menguji PKL Institusi di RS Ngawi.

Sampai RS sekitar jam 12.30, aku mampir sholat dhuhur dan jam 13.00 mulai presentasi yang berakhir beberapa menit sebelum adzan maghrib. Aku sendiri sholat Ashar di ruangan belakang gedung diklat tempat presentasi berlangsung.

Sebelum makan malam, mampir lagi ke masjid RS untuk sholat maghrib. Makan sebentar di salah satu kafe sekitar yang ditempuh hanya dengan jalan kaki.

Sekitar adzan Isya', kita balik menuju terminal untuk pulang. Aku pikir akan tiba sebelum jam 8 tetapi karena ada kemacetan jalan, baru tiba di Lab menjelang jam 9.

Nggak Punya Meja Kerja

Semenjak pindah dari kantor Dago ke kantor Malabar saya ngerasa saya nggak punya meja kerja yang spesifik. "Meja kerja" punya kesan di situlah satu-satunya tempat saya untuk kerja. Rasanya saya nggak suka sama kesan itu. Kesannya terlalu dibatasi. Seakan saya nggak bisa kerja kalo nggak di meja itu. Atau, kalau bisa pun, kerjanya nggak sebagus ketika lagi di meja itu. Nggak mau saya kalo kinerja saya ditentukan oleh dimana saya kerja. Saya mau tetap bebas. Saya mau bisa kerja di manapun. Saya mau kebagusan kerja dan konsistensi kerjaan saya nggak bergantung sama di meja apa saya bekerja.

Tapi nggak selamanya saya ngerasanya kayak gini. Sebelumnya saya nggak apa-apa ketika cuman bisa kerja di sebuah meja kerja yang itu-itu aja. Di kantor Cikutra saya punya meja kerja. Sempat beberapa kali pindah, tapi setiap pindah saya memproklamasikan meja tempat saya pindah itu jadi meja kerja saya yang baru. Di kantor Dago juga sempat beberapa kali pindah, tapi setiap pindah juga saya berproklamasi. Lalu akhirnya pandemi. Meja kerja saya ada di rumah. Satu meja yang sama ini dijadikan meja kerja dan meja bukan kerja. Saya bikin dia senyaman mungkin buat kerja dan bukan kerja. Tapi setelah nyaman, pandemi sudahan. Saya bisa kerja di kantor Dago lagi. Meskipun kantor saya menganut WFA, tapi saya sangat suka kerja di kantor Dago karena kantor Dago seenak itu. Pindahlah meja kerja saya ke kantor Dago. Di tempat yang sama sebelum pandemi. Dengan kondisi yang masih sama dan dengan gitar Ans yang masih ada.

Tahun lalu kami pindah kantor ke Malabar. Kantor Dago yang saya sangat sukai itu sekarang udah nggak ada. Saya coba untuk pindah meja kerja juga ke kantor Malabar. Ikut teman ke sana dan ke sini. Pindah-pindah beberapa kali, seperti biasa, tapi tetep nggak nemu mana yang rasanya "meja kerja". Nggak ada yang rasanya permanen. Nggak ada yang rasanya welcoming saya untuk kerja di situ.

Awal-awal gelisah. Gak bisa move on, yoi. Tapi lama-lama bisa nrimo. Kantor Dago udah nggak ada. Meja kerja yang lama udah nggak ada. Meja kerja yang baru juga mungkin nggak ada. Atau kalaupun ada, bukan di Malabar. Ya gitu weh. Emang gak ada yang mengharuskan kita punya meja kerja di kantor kan. Gak ada peraturan presiden yang membahas soal itu. Di kitab suci juga nggak ada. Jadi, ya nggak apa-apa kalo nggak punya meja kerja. Saya pernah nggak ke kantor selama 2 minggu, kerjanya pindah-pindah dari kafe ke kafe, nggak ngeganggu performance kerjaan kok. Nggak dipenjara sama Jokowi kok.

Nggak punya meja kerja bukan berarti nggak kerja. Tetep kerja, kan. Kerjanya tetep pake meja, kan. Masa laptopnya dipangku. Cuman mejanya aja bukan di meja yang saya proklamasikan. Mejanya bisa dimanapun. Saya dapet mejanya di mana, saya kerja di situ. Saya mau kerjanya di mana, saya kerja di situ. Dan nggak harus selalu di meja kantor. Bisa di meja rumah. Bisa di meja rumah temen. Bisa di meja kafe. Bisa di meja kereta. Bisa di mobil. Di stasiun. Di trotoar. Di bawah pohon. Ada freedom yang muncul ketika saya nggak memproklamasikan meja apapun sebagai meja kerja saya. Jadinya semua meja bisa saya jadikan meja kerja pada saat itu. Meja kerja at the now.

Temen saya pernah nyeletuk, dia kalo liat saya ke kantor gak pernah liat saya buka laptop. Sebenernya saya buka laptop, tapi karena sekarang saya udah jarang ngoding jadi saya bisa ngerjain kerjaan di HP aja. Spiritnya masih sama, freedom dalam bekerja. Saya bisa kerja di laptop saya sendiri, di laptop temen, di HP, di HP temen, di PC di rumah, atau kayaknya saya bisa juga kerja di warnet.

Saya tau nggak semua orang bisa nggak punya meja kerja. Dan memang saya nulis ini bukan untuk ngajak itu. Cuman sharing aja. Dulu juga saya orangnya sangat harus punya meja kerja. Bahkan harus punya laptop kerja. Meja dan laptop saya itu harus saya personalisasi banget sampe dalam bentuk dan feel yang saya suka banget sampe-sampe itu bikin motivasi tersendiri buat saya bekerja. Tapi sekarang lagi nggak gitu aja. Sekarang lagi fleksibel. Lagi nggak suka dibatasi sama personalisasi diri sendiri. Lagi pengen versatile. Awalnya karena emang gak punya meja kerja, tapi lama-lama karena dikarunai nggak punya meja kerja.

How do y'all feel about having a big EU song bracket in May? Maybe with a 'freedom/liberation/antifascist' theme?

I'd say anyone can submit anything. If it isn't obviously EU, you'd have to come up with some connection (Like, 'Winds of Change' may be in English, but the Scorpions are a German band, that's easy. Challenge yourself, tell me why 'Love me I'm a liberal' by Phil Ochs should be accepted, be creative!)

When we start, we'll do one bracket, then, because polls tend to attract more attention than calls for submissions, we'll do another bracket with the songs that come in from people who saw the bracket going around. The winners from both brackets will meet in the final.

Chapter Zero: Gabriel Tan

The Private Room — Changi Airport, Singapore

Bandara internasional Changi pada sore hari itu terasa ramai dan riuh dengan pelancong yang akan meninggalkan negara kecil tersebut. Tapi nampaknya, keramaian dan hiruk pikuk itu tidak berlaku bagi segelintir penumpang kelas utama maskapai nasional Singapura yang menunggu penerbangan mereka di The Private Room. Seorang lelaki muda terduduk lunglai di salah satu sofa empuk yang berada di sudut ruangan. Alunan musik klasik yang bersenandung pelan dan cahaya temaram yang menerangi lounge sangat bersahabat untuk matanya yang amat lelah dan mulai berkantung.

Gabriel sesekali menyesap champagne-nya sembari mengusap kepalanya yang masih berdenyut. Ia betul-betul tidak sabar untuk merebahkan tubuhnya yang sudah amat sangat penat dengan segala kekonyolan yang terjadi 24 jam silam. Pertama, ia harus berlari dari ujung ke ujung terminal bandara karena kemacetan kota Los Angeles yang tidak dapat diduga membuatnya hampir terlambat. Kedua, pesawat yang ia tumpangi harus menunggu 1.5 jam untuk mendapatkan giliran lepas landas. Dan sekarang setelah 18 jam mengudara dan berkali-kali dihempas turbulensi, pesawat lanjutan yang seharusnya ia tumpangi menuju Jakarta sudah lepas landas 2 jam sebelum ia mendarat di Singapura. Entah kesialan apa lagi yang menunggunya kali ini.

Walaupun bagi Gabriel perjalanan panjang antara negeri Paman Sam dan Indonesia bukan sebuah pengalaman yang asing lagi setelah ia harus pindah kembali ke Jakarta sepuluh bulan silam; dirinya setahun yang lalu mungkin tidak akan pernah membayangkan bahwa ia harus berpisah dengan teman-teman masa kecilnya, anjing chihuahua tetangganya yang sering menyalak dengan lantang setiap pagi, kafe kesukaannya di Venice Boulevard, hingga profesor yang begitu ia benci di universitasnya. The Grove, LACMA, Rodeo Drive, West Hollywood, Koreatown, 626 Night Market, Santa Monica Pier, dan masih banyak lagi tempat-tempat yang memberikan kenangan manis dan pahit di masa kecilnya hingga remaja; membuat Los Angeles sebuah kota metropolis yang tidak bisa dilupakan begitu saja. Tidak pernah ia sangka bahwa hidupnya harus berubah dalam kurun waktu kurang dari setahun.

Mengingat itu semua, Gabriel hanya bisa tersenyum masam. Perasaan rindu dan lelah membuat kepalanya kian berdenyut lebih keras. Demi mengalihkan perhatiannya dari segala macam emosi negatif yang merundung dirinya, ia menyalakan handphone yang sudah terlalu lama dia abaikan dan mulai menyelami lautan media sosial.

"Mister Tan, we have managed to rebook you onto another flight to Jakarta–" Seorang lounge agent membuyarkan percakapan dengan Natalie di Instagram mengenai kelakuan Peter yang tak pernah gagal untuk menghibur teman-temannya. Namun sepertinya penghiburan itu tidak bertahan lama. "– But, the gate will be closed in 10 minutes and we have a cart out front to take you to your gate."

Gabriel hanya bisa menatap lounge agent yang berdiri di depannya dengan terpana. Jujur ia tidak tahu apakah harus bersyukur atau mengumpat sekarang. Belum habis segelas champagne yang dituangkan untuknya, sekarang dia harus bergegas mengejar pesawatnya.

Setelah terdiam canggung selama beberapa detik, pemuda itu akhirnya sadar dan membereskan barang-barangnya, menenggak champagne yang masih tersisa setengah gelas, dan bergegas mengekor di belakang wanita paruh baya yang berjalan lebih cepat menyusuri lounge ke arah resepsionis. Seturunnya mereka berdua dari lounge, di ujung eskalator terparkir sebuah golf cart hitam untuk mengantar Gabriel menuju pintu keberangkatan yang berada di ujung terminal.

"Tokyo Drift? More like Changi Drift now."

"Welcome on Board Mister Tan, my name is Cheryl and I'll be the purser in charge today. Care for some Krug?" Seorang wanita mengenakan sarong kebaya berwarna hijau menyapa dengan senyuman hangat sembari menuangkan champagne di hadapan Gabriel yang sekarang sudah duduk manis di dalam kabin kelas utama. "You're so lucky, you're the only one in First Class tonight."

"Just my luck then. Thank you Cheryl." Gabriel akhirnya bisa bernapas lega dan kembali menyesap champagne-nya dengan tenang. Perjalanan panjangnya dari Los Angeles akan berakhir dan badannya sudah amat sangat merindukan bantal serta kasur yang empuk. Cheryl tersenyum kembali ke Gabriel sembari menyerahkan sebuah buku menu untuk santap malam, diiringi dengan suara hangat sang pilot dari ruang kemudi.
