dhan is a piece of traditional longform interactive fiction made in Twine. it’s uncharacteristic of my usual style in about a hundred different ways, but i’m still happy with the way it turned out. you can play it here or here.

in-game items

in the game, you choose from three pairs of items: hunting knife vs rope // throwing daggers vs rings // healing vs cooling buff. originally, you were only allowed to choose two items total: one tool (knife vs daggers vs rope) and one boon (rings vs healing vs cooling).

buuuut i decided that wouldn't give the reader enough scenes to play through, so now you get three!

visual design

boy howdy am i bad at colors and layouts you guys have no fucking idea. i thought about screenshotting every terrible misstep along the way, but it would fill about four hundred and eighty posts, so...

the original palette from here vs. final colors:

i knew that i wanted an uncluttered layout with a lot of whitespace: something that felt vacant, the text stranded in the middle of nothingness. i ended up using only a few colors from the original palette, but i think the vacancy came thru.

dhan is also uncharacteristic of my usual taste in design because i fucking loathe serif fonts and have pledged my life against them......... yet i used one for this game. #whatispersonalintegrity #wejustdontknow
