extremely self indulgent, extremely silly hc but mabel plays twst and she gets everyone a little bit into it by virtue of being so enthusiastic, but ESPECIALLY stan (since he likes melodramas LOL). i dont think he plays it but looks it up online and watches youtube videos of it on his phone a lot after mabel summarises the riddle arc to him.

he watches leona's arc and is like "yeesh this deals with some relatable concepts huh?", spends 2 arcs thinking the octatrio are hilarious, 1 arc wishing the octatrio would come back, and then gets to the shroud arc and ford has to talk him out of smashing his phone with a hammer.

btw i think mabel's favourite characters are malleus (obv.), vil (hes pretty) floyd ("hes just like me for real") and probably also silver. just my onion

Asobi Asobase has to of the most interesting examples of story evolution (? idk if this is the correct term) in manga I've ever seen. It just effortlessly went from "offbeat school comedy about three 14-year olds" to "uncanny horror (played for laughs???)" in about 120 chapters.

OK yes the 3 protagonists already started off unhinged.. but in a way that 14 y/o girls kind of are.. Idk, it captures the essence of the whole "teenage weirdgirl" but takes it from a manga about 3 weirdos setting up a harmless after school club.... to a manga where the same girls unknowingly got a teacher addicted to drugs and some other girls decide to feed into that so they can harvest the teacher’s blood and feed it to a vampire living in an abandoned classroom. That's chapter ~70. It gets darker.

4 - a book that had a tv adaptation that was better than the book itself?

i dont watch a lot of tv but i do watch a lot of movies so my answer is short cuts. i read a few of the carver short stories in high school and thought they were ok but short cuts without fail makes me feel weird inside in a very profound and existential way - i think the way the characters are brought together is genius and the atmosphere is unbearably thick

14 - an overrated book?

milk fed was booooooring. i didnt care to be inside the main characters mind and i think it was trying way too hard to be provocative and play into the weirdgirl booktok phenom. same goes for bunny by mona awad actually. i read a few ottessa mosfegh copycat books during uni and they were all pretty forgettable

17 - a book to get you out of a reading slump?

i really ripped through both penance and boy parts this year, i think eliza clark nails the details of these more hidden, shameful parts of young womens lives and writes about them without judgement. i wish i hadnt followed her on instagram though she likes some really unfunny stuff

22 - a book you hated at first but now love it?

this is a hard question because i tend to give up on books that im not enjoying… really struggling to think of an answer for this one!!!

OUHH i lov her... i think i make her sound a little meaner than she actually is she's not like. a bully she's just 14 and very mentally ill and has issues with emotional regulation . i mean she'll like make fun of people kinda but only like. adults lol. she doesn't take shit and gets in trouble a lot. The beginning of the story is the second time she's had to move schools, this time cuz she moved but the first was because she broke someone's nose in 6th grade because he was being a dick. Erm she plays soccer and she loves bugs especially beetles and just like general lil creepy crawlies, her dad calls her Junebug :3. She also likes horror but i feel like she's into really niche horror yk. She's like a very messy person yk she gets overly angry and destructive sometimes when she feels threatened and I feel like people would misunderstand her a lot if HaS had an actual fandom sifh ....

2. When was the last time you cried? i'm not sure but i have an embarrassing feeling i nearly cried reading a book ostensibly about british sociopolitics recently

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? sometimes? i think? since i stopped injecting linguistics straight into my veins i haven't been as aware of my own speech patterns. definitely less than i used to though

5. What sports do you play/have played? i sort of play a sport as part of my job, but it's quite a niche sport so i will not be telling you what it is

6. What's the first thing you notice about people? no idea, but it won't be their face. i am terrible with faces. i once didn't realise a band had changed drummer because the drummers both had the same first name

7. What's your eye color? light brown, but the sort of orangey brown that matches my hair sometimes.

13. How tall are you? 5'3", but 5'6" in the platform doc martens i always wear, so that's my adopted height (i need to believe i could be taller than Yannis. i need to)

14. Favorite subject in school? english language, aka Linguistics Lite (i then did a linguistics degree. well. most of one)

15. Dream job? someone who gains a cult following of fellow fannish weirdgirls* by publishing their own journals and making a mildly successful Channel 4 sitcom based off them

3. what ideas come from when you were little!

cant tell if this means like ideas about art in general or ideas about what/how u draw? ill do both i guess. but to be really honest i have like no memory LOL i know i was big into anime as a preteen so that's definitely where the nightmare began in general. like with my art style... i don't even want to get into art styles cause i don't think that's real but also i do so bad because i dont have one and it kills me. i guess this is sort of an inverse of from when i was little but i did have a hater of pink phase and now i understand that i was so wrong. now i tend to use a lot of warm colors and pink when i draw i love you peach i love you orange i love you pink!!!! for art in general idk where it comes from but i have it in my head that i have to render every single thing when i do NOT and im working on not being so bananas about it.. but on the nice side i've always been a firm believer that anybody can draw and maybe should draw once in a while. im not a fan of "practice so you can get good" Nao!!! learning is fun but why is it about being "good" what does that even mean draw with whatever you have even if you think it sucks and then love your creation. it's about catharsis. have some whimsy

4. fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

everything (coughs up blood) actually i Love frills and hair. i DONT LOVE RENDERING FRILLS AND HAIR AAAAHG!!!! also eyes because i never ever draw them consistently i forget how im drawing them every 10 minutes. and for characters this is shameful to admit but i have such a hard time getting emu right she's literally my favorite and my weirdgirl daughter but i just cannot get her regular hair to look right ever. OH ALSO I LOVE SHOES SO SO MUCH AND I JUST CAN'T DRAW THEM... i love chunky sneakers.. loafers... dress shoes... i always get stumped drawing the soles

oooh my god well since yuo asked i fucking LOVE anything that involves like a stage or acknowledging that the media is a story/a work of art. its definitely revstar and orvs fault but like stage curtains and audience seats and page margins and books and the character(s) staring at the viewer. etc. i hate the monarchy but i freaking love knights. chivalry in general its a gender on its own. also to be generic i Love devil motifs and horns in general and blood but not in a gorey way more like a metaphorical blood on your hands way. i love the light that corrupts im like a moth... umm and like to get really specific the impaling of someone with a sword especially while in a tragic/intimate setting/tender embrace will get me every time. to get really vague anything to do with love even when its sad though personally i believe love prevails. i also love a tragic jester. what else umm stars n space and astronauts but specifically with whatever the future eve MV has going on... oh i love when something symbolizes a characters determination or ambition. best reference for this off the top of my head is the tomato thing in revstar.. im editing the post to add this but ballet even though i hate doing it the visual themes are so good. and i LOVE texture in both digital and physical mediums especially when noise/scratchy textures or chunky paint or visible strokes etc are used to show anger and rage like YESSS rise rise rise it is so Visceral and it is so good. thank u for the ask!!! ♪(*^^)o∀*∀o(^^*)♪
