LISTEN LISTEN, I know we’re all sad and disappointed at Mal’s reunion. BUT we need to talk about how this man did whatever he could to keep the memory of MC close to him when they were gone.

Lord Wesley of RIVERBEND????? Mal claiming to be from MC’s hometown?? People died, I am people.

Him telling stories about MC to his kids????????

Building the orphanage when MC disappeared because he needed a purpose?? And the one he picks is the one he wanted to achieve, WITH MC. (for my fellow Mal-romancers out there)

I know we were all expected a big, dramatic reunion, but I honestly think this one was pretty good too. I think the emotions we were hoping for was THERE, it was just subtler.

One Room Angel slowly swept into my life and took me by surprise with such an interesting premise and great characters. So, even though it was from Japan, and I know how Japanese shows might end up, I chose to stay and find out what happened to the angel and how Kouki would change.

Did I expect the angel to disappear at some point? Yes.

Did I want the angel to disappear? No.

Did it make sense that the angel had to leave? Yes.

Did I end up smiling halfway through episode 6 only to realise this is the last episode and this is the time the angel would disappear? Yes...

What a beautiful and evocative show that touched upon the themes of communication, misunderstanding, death, loneliness and identity. Here I was expecting a cute little show with an amnesiac angel but I was given social commentary and responsibility packed into a short but effective narrative. It's not a show I would watch when I'm bored because it has the tendency to hit you with dark humour when you least expect it. But it's a show I'd recommend to anyone interested in delving deeper into Japanese filmmaking and narrative style.

I'm truly thankful and happy that I had the opportunity over the last 6 weeks to enjoy this show even though it constantly ripped my heart out. Hats off to these great actors and everyone who worked on this show.

Stephen waves this away.

"We don't play today?" says Bogdan. Maybe they will watch a film instead? Or just tell stories. Bogdan will cook a paella.

"Not me, old chap, says Stephen. "Elizabeth's the chess player round here."

"Elizabeth?"

"I tried chess a few times," says Stephen. "Never got the hang of it. You play?"

"Yes, I play," says Bogdan.

"Any good?" says Stephen.

"Depends," says Bogdan, determined to stop the team forming. "In chess you're only really ever as good as the person you play against."

Stephen nods and looks down at the board. Bogdan wonders what he is seeing.

"Better man than I,' says Stephen. 'Devil's own job, that game."

Donna walks back in with two mugs of tea. Stephen beams.

That's the stuff, all right,' says Stephen. "Cup of tea. That's the stuff."
