Celebration of Cultures at Historic Wedding Venue in Roswell Georgia

Liz and Dan are this week’s couple.  They are a wonderful couple from Korea.  I am honored to be a wedding photographer where I get to learn about so many cultures and meet so many people.  They are such a cute couple and were incorporating many different traditions into their wedding day. 

This week’s wedding took place in the historic district of Roswell, Georgia.  As an Atlanta wedding photographer at AtlantaArtisticWeddings this is my favorite area to shoot at.  There are several historic wedding venues such as Naylor Hall, Primrose Cottage, Ivy Hall and Roswell Mill Club within a few blocks of each other.  This week’s wedding takes place at Kimball Hall. 

I met Liz and Dan in the morning at the venue.  They wanted to have a first look before the ceremony.  Liz got ready upstairs and Dan got dressed downstairs.  As they got ready Tara, the second photographer, and I got the first look location ready.  Dan got dressed first so he waited in the side yard for Liz.  Once Liz was ready, she came downstairs and snuck up behind Dan and surprised him in her wedding dress. It was a classic ball gown dress with a full train.  It fit her perfectly.  Dan was stunned and he knew that he was the luckiest man there is. 

We took a few photos around Kimball Hall.  There is a charming side yard with water features, an Arbour, and a porch with fairy lights in the background.  Then there is the backyard with a small shelter and ceremony area with shrubbery that makes for charming colorful photos.  Finally there is the wrap around porch, which provides some nice even lighting and depending on the time of day you can get some nice backlighting.  Once we were done with the couple photos we met the family in the side yard. Everyone was so organized and patient.  Within a few minutes we had all the family photos taken care of.  Once done the guests started to arrive and it was time for a wedding. 

The ceremony took place upstairs in the ballroom, where there are large windows and lots of natural light.  There the florist set a large arch with flowers for the wedding ceremony.  To the left of the arc was the DJ who knew Korean and English to help the guests navigate the wedding day.  The guests took their seats in the ballroom and faced the arch.  In the back behind the curtains the wedding party lined up.  The three flower girls were in place and giddy with anticipation.  They practiced tossing rose petals and were in place to lead the procession.  The wedding planner gave the nod to the DJ and the music began.  The moms came out first and waved to the guests as they entered the room. Then the dads came out and sat next to the moms in the front row.  Then Liz’s dad went back behind the curtain to escort Liz down.  Then the music started and Liz entered with her dad.  The guests stood up and admired the bride as she entered the ballroom. 

The ceremony was a mixture of cultures.  First, they had the traditional portion where the couple bowed to each set of parents. Then the parents stood and congratulated the couple.  Next the couple read their vows to each other and exchanged rings.  After that the master of ceremonies announced them husband and wife.  That was Dan’s queue to give Liz a big we-are-married kiss.  They raised their hands in celebration and walked down the aisle in a sea of applause from the guests.  We took a few more photos with guests and family while the room was flipped from being a ceremony area to a seating for dining.   

Once the room was ready, we went back to the ballroom where the guests were seated, and the couple thanked them for being part of their special day.  Then the food was served. There was steak, fish, salad and a table of special desserts.  As the guests dined the couple went around to the tables and greeted them.  Each table had its own personality, and you could tell that they had a very diverse set of friends from all around the world.  After dinner there was the toast and cake cutting.  I also snuck outside with the couple to take a few blue hour photos.  Once back inside it was time for the bouquet toss. There were not that many single women, but they were very competitive which made for some fun photos.  As the party was dying down, I saw a very smart tradition that I had not seen before.  Near the exit and bar they had large squares of paper and string laid out so the guests could wrap flowers and take them home.  I thought that was so smart. That way you don’t have to waste flowers, and the guests can have a beautiful memento from the wedding.  

Before we knew it. It is time for the exit.  We had these large streamers that guests threw in the air towards the couple.  The guests cheered them on, and the couple were surrounded by love as they left the building and started out their life as a married couple.

Band of Brother's rewatch and the things I'd have like to have seen even though there was a lot in the episode, a lot to cover, and a story to tell but this is just a wishlist and really a "Boy I hope we get all the cutscenes some day in an extended cut like LOTR" so....feel free to add any cool history bits. I understand stuff doesn't fit with the end product, I just want it.

The March to Atlanta. Besides the record breaking march, there are some little things like David Lowrey picking up the stray dog Draftee and carrying in his pack because he wore his nails off marching with them? Sherman Irish who was Sobol's favorite and the guy everyone loved who volunteered to drive Sobol's car to Benning for him. Then told him it broke down and got money to fix the transmission, only to never show up because he sold all of Sobol's stuff including the wheels off the car.

Burr Smith, Forrest Guth. I just want them in this show.

Al Mampre too. Not only for being involved in putting boots on a bobcat but for being the guy who, with Spina, at Camp Mackall gave Sobol a fake appendectomy.

The guys smuggling bobcats, dogs and a Red Cross nurse ON JUMPS?

Popeye collecting money for Shifty so he could go home on a 3 day pass. This guy got no time.

Buck Taylor going AWOL at Benning to see a girl because passes were revoked. Lipton sneaking out too because he had plans to see his wife.

Ed Tipper getting into his billet in England and hearing Lord Haw Haw who was like Axis Sally broadcasting to demoralize allies and greeted them with "To the 101st Airborne, Welcome to England" even though they had to cut off their patches to arrive in secret. Just would have been a neat overlay of "We've been watching you" before the big jump, even though that wasn't the tone they were going for. Still would have been cool background noise.

Speirs racing Reed on Currahee and Reed just breezing it and Speirs wheezing and dying because he had to try to keep up

More Meehan. Make us miss him. Kick us in the gut when Guth walks by his crashed plane next episode. (In this extended cut where he has a role.)

Winters breaking that guy's back while wrestling. THEN give us Buck.

THE KNIFE. Like this just needs to be a few seconds of Nix giving him the Knife and us seeing the engraving of L.N to D.W. <3 .

Buck and Moose ending up in Speirs wedding party?

Photographers. Whoever kept taking pictures of Winters barely wearing clothes and Lipton laying in he grass like a model. Whoever took that file of photos Dick trades Lugers for. Bonus if they are on the yearbook committee that made the Currahee Scrapbook.

Speirs vs. Billy Turner, Fierce Valor makes it sound like the second civil war. Turner kicked him from C to D company and Speirs was not shy about telling everyone he wanted to kill him.

(I do apologise because my memory is partially photographic but honestly, go read the LSA threads because I'm tired of digging up screenshots, although it is WEIRD how a specific set of Relationship theory threads popped up out of nowhere just as this shitshow started to get going)

Can someone remind me how old the Tiktokers were again? About the same age as 🐟 and the DC intern?

Here's the question I can't quite answer, is it a bunch of rumours and a set up? or did the man just finally get caught out?

The Tiktokers said they got invited by a guy to a party in LA whom they met in Cabo that just happens to show up at the table next to him and friends out for the night? That sounds like getting "recruited" to me (Does anyone know if they have an agency? And which one? Maybe an industry insider can look into it and talk amongst themselves, this information has no use to me personally)

Weirdly one of the people he followed went to Cabo a few weeks before? Who actually organised this stag do in the middle of filming Ghosted to be in LA?

Did they pick LA because if he went out in Atlanta he'd definitely be expected to be spotted and people would already be keeping an eye out?

Christopher posts a selfie on the couch wearing a denim Jacket looking very, very tired and we're first thinking "Oh they've had a night shoot" and then the tiktok video of him showing him in LA during filming of what's supposed to be a closed set with COVID restrictions, lord knows that didn't stop a trip to London to hang out with Lily James, but then again who organised that as well? Sometimes an actor has to go where they're told to go? And if it was a PR set up that turned to shit well then that points to his management

(People pleasing much Christopher? I know you worry about things to do with your career dove but do learn to say no, it is of far better use to your peace of mind than being able to meditate properly)

Was he really supposed to be the next SMA at that point, and instead they ended up going with Rudd or whomever because the PR with Lily wasn't running properly due to the backlash of travelling during Covid and her getting caught in the park as well as with a married man in Venice?

Or is all of that just "scandal PR" to match her movie that came out with her co star? *Shrugs*

Anyway, after he posts the tired selfie the Tiktokers post that video where you can clearly see his friend Paul, with Christopher in the background at a club in LA, and then Paul's fiancé removes Chris from her followers (yeah I'd be pissed seeing that video too lol especially with my wedding coming up) after seeing him hang out with much younger women that arrived with someone at the next table? It's almost like product placement for advertising isn't it? What a marketable moment lol

Coincidence? I don't really believe in them lol

Something is up, he's gotten caught in two different clubs with much younger companions twice now and the blame always seems to end up on someone else around him when he's the common factor? Or is that the whole point?

It's meant to imply he is the common factor???

Weird how the Tiktokers had to take down the video and close their Instagram and seemingly disappeared into oblivion afterwards never to be seen or heard from again

Weird how the DC intern takes down their posts of both the pic with him, and pics from Boston, and then starts a fashion label out of nowhere, how much does that cost to start up? Remind me again which side of the political spectrum that the office she worked for was on again?

Both of these posts made by the DC intern AND the Tiktokers had the words in a comment underneath "Might've been a bit more than that" in a very suggestive manner that curious fans were bound to notice, was this done intentionally?

The SAME exact phrase.......you know how I feel about coincidences........

It's literally the same phrase, it didn't work the first time with the intern so they tried again with a Tiktok video and a more immediately accessible audience? Thank you manipulative algorithms 👏 for getting that around nice and quickly

For years this man has been seen with age appropriate women, and the second he steps out with "A Starting Point" (which required fact checkers to be used, who has a bigger problem with that I wonder) this sort of stuff starts circulating around the most visible of the organisers, who also happens to be publicly single with a reputation to protect

Now I'm not completely sure on this but those in the industry would know better on this next point BUT just how far do the fingers of "DC" and CAA in the industry intertwine?

I mean, we've now had people come forward as being paid to act like fans of people they've never heard of, literally go look it up on Tiktok, how does the saying go "Everything in Hollywood is transactional"??

Ok, so who's paying for it then??

We know stuff has been leaked from HIS side to 🐟 side intentionally (re: pumpkin pic and the now deleted Just Jared article calling him out on it, (who owns that place anyway?

And how did they get hold of the info running on the LSA threads so quickly to run it in an article online, almost like they were waiting for it to drop to keep the momentum going? Or did someone catch that all and send it into them

Chelsea went and deleted the comment she made, as did Tara eventually, and both are now private and seemingly no longer involved, did his agency request it to be that way for this PR cycle in order to make it more believable?

You have to remember that he followed these people from his blue tick account which of course was a new and exciting thing to his fans of course they are going to be watching everything "he does"

Did they just want him to follow them so it was visibly noticeable to the "gossip forums and look more legitimate in terms of his social circles where they would be able to drop the info to knowing who reads it?

Here's what I wonder, is it a set up? Is it a matter of just getting caught out? Who is organising these things for him to know where he would be?

Man Christopher, just pick a girl already, one that knows how to throw a punch at someone that comes for their man, because I wonder sometimes if you know HOW to stick up for yourself

Wedding Photographer Shares Insight to Atlanta Indian Weddings

This week I am going to cover Indian weddings. As an Atlanta wedding photographer I have had the honor of photographing several Indian weddings and Hindu ceremonies. They are beautiful and intricate weddings. When I shot my first Indian wedding, I had to do a lot of research to know the customs and how to photograph such a busy day.  

I know a lot of the guests that go to Atlanta Indian weddings are doing it for the first time.  It can be helpful to know some of the customs before you get to the wedding. I will share some of my insight to help you.  I have listed some of the terminology for an Indian wedding at the end of the blog.  For now, I will go over the sequence of events on an Indian wedding day. 

I have seen some weddings include a Haldi ceremony.  That is where the bride and groom get spruced up.  They are decorated with a paste made of turmeric, gram flour, curd, sandalwood and rose water.  It is applied to the hands and feet.  It is believed to brighten skin color before the ceremony.  It is also believed to bring good luck to the bride and groom. 

The next ceremony I usually see at every wedding is the Mehndi.  This is where the bride, her family, and close friends get decorated by a professional henna artist. The henna is a form of tattoo that enhances the bride’s beauty.  It is like a bachelorette party because they also serve food and play games. 

My favorite part of an Atlanta Indian wedding is the Sangeet.  It is usually held the night before the wedding.  This is where there is a reception with food for the guests. But my favorite part of the Sangeet is the dancing. A lot of the dance routines come from Bollywood movies. It is one the most entertaining things to watch and I am always blown away by all the talented guests. You can tell they have been practicing for a long time on these dance routines. 

The next thing that happens is on the wedding day, which is the Baraat, or the arrival of the bride and groom.  They come to the reception area flanked with their friends and there is music and dancing along the way.  Also, during some of this time some of the close friends and family do dance routines in front of the bride and groom.   

The ceremony consists of a Milni – the meeting of the bride and groom families.  The bride's family usually brings garlands and traditional Indian treats. I have seen gifts exchanged also.  The Milni is an important tradition where the bride’s family honors the groom's family.  The exchanging of gifts between families is present in many other cultures too. 

After the ceremony, like at all weddings, there is more food and dancing.  The one thing I have seen at every Atlanta Indian wedding is kindness.  They are some of the most gracious people I have ever met.  Always sharing their culture, food, and support for the married couple.

It was initially held one month before the actual wedding day, but with changing times people have become quite flexible. Engagement Ceremony Indian weddings are known for their elaborate ceremonies and opulent celebrations. Besides, they are held in a very traditional manner, commemorating numerous rituals as per the ancient Vedic era. Sangeet Ceremony Sangeet ceremony as the name suggests is all about dance and music. It is one of the most enjoyable ceremonies before the wedding and is exclusively for women. Mehndi Ceremony Mehndi is yet another traditional yet exciting pre wedding ceremony. In India, a lot of emphasis is given on customs and rituals. Indian people are ardent lovers of beauty and elegance. Var Mala Ceremony Var Mala ceremony is an important main wedding day ceremony. It is also known as Jaimala and basically involves exchange of garlands between the bride and the groom. Mandap Ceremony Mandap ceremony holds utmost importance on the day of the wedding. This is because all the significant rituals are performed during the mandap ceremony. Vidai Ceremony Practically everyone dreams of getting married someday to someone. After an individual attains maturity the wait for that perfect individual starts. Some people are lucky to be blessed by the feeling of love. Reception Ceremony Indian weddings have a charm of their own. As per the tradition the wedding is primarily organized by the bride's family, however, the reception might be an exception.  Below are some the terms I got from http://weddingdetails.com/lore-tradition/hindu/ Jaimala (Exchange of Garlands) The couple exchanges garlands as a gesture of acceptance of one another and a pledge to respect one another as partners. Madhupak (Offering of Yogurt and Honey) The bride’s father offers the groom yogurt and honey as the expression of welcome and respect. Kanyadan (Giving Away of the Bride) The father of the bride places her hand in the groom’s hand requesting him to accept her as an equal partner. The concept behind Kanyadan is that the bride is a form of the goddess Lamxi and the groom is Lord Narayana. The parents are facilitating their union. Havan (Lighting of the Sacred Fire) The couple invokes Agni, the god of Fire, to witness their commitment to each other. Crushed sandalwood, herbs, sugar rice and oil are offered to the ceremonial fire. Rajaham (Sacrifice to the Sacred Fire) The bride places both her hands into the groom’s and her brother then places rice into her hands. Together the bride and groom offer the rice as a sacrifice into the fire. Gath Bandhan (Tying of the Nuptial Knot) The scarves placed around the bride and groom are tied together symbolizing their eternal bond. This signifies their pledge before God to love each other and remain faithful. Mangalphera (Walk Around the Fire) The couple makes four Mangalpheras around the fire in a clockwise direction representing four goals in life: Dharma, religious and moral duties; Artha, prosperity; Kama, earthly pleasures; Moksha, spiritual salvation and liberation. The bride leads the Pheras first, signifying her determination to stand first beside her husband in all happiness and sorrow. Saptapardi (Seven Steps Together) The bride and groom walk seven steps together to signify the beginning of their journey through life together. Each step represents a marital vow: First step: To respect and honor each other Second step: To share each other’s joy and sorrow Third step: To trust and be loyal to each other Fourth step: To cultivate appreciation for knowledge, values, sacrifice and service Fifth step: To reconfirm their vow of purity, love family duties and spiritual growth Sixth step: To follow principles of Dharma (righteousness) Seventh step: To nurture an eternal bond of friendship and love Jalastnchana (Blessing of the Couple) The parents of the bride and groom bless the wedded couple by dipping a rose in water and sprinking it over the couple. Sindhoor (Red Powder) The groom applies a small dot of vermilion, a powdered red lead, to the bride’s forehead and welcomes her as his partner for life. It is applied for the first time to a woman during the marriage ceremony when the bridegroom himself adorns her with it. Aashirvad (Parental Blessing) The parents of the bride and groom give their blessings to the couple. The couple touches the feet of their parents as a sign of respect. Menhdi (Henna Ceremony) The traditional art of adorning the hands and feet with a paste made from the finely ground leaves of the Henna plant. The term refers to the material, the design, and the ceremony. It is tradition for the names of the bride and groom to be hidden in the design, and the wedding night is not to commence until the groom has found both names. After the wedding, the bride is not expected to perform any housework until her Menhdi has faded away. Mangalasutra (Thread of Goodwill) A necklace worn specifically by married women as a symbol of their marriage.

Welcome the Baraat – the arrival of the groom and his family. Traditionally, the groom arrives at the wedding on a horse, accompanied by his closest friends and family members. The large procession includes lots of singing and dancing. This signifies the groom’s and his family’s happiness in accepting the new bride.
