Never Enough || Oliver + Laya
Oliver didn't know when it had become this way, when the thrill was gone, when the wins didn't matter anymore, when the huge mansion with the guarded gate, the two pools, the movie theater... When had that become a prison?
The blonde had been shocked when he'd been scouted at 18. After Cat's death, after his father's, after the trial, his emancipation, everything - Oliver had poured himself into football and his school work. Because what else could he do? Thinking hurt too much, living hurt too much. But then the talent scout from UGA had approached him and offered him a full ride - room-in-board, everything. Just for him to play. It'd been a miracle and for so, so long, he'd felt grateful. He studied hard, played harder, graduated with a bachelor's with two majors - secondary education and american history. Not that that mattered. He'd been a first-round draft pick by San Francisco 49ers, offered a five-year, six million dollar contract. At 22 years old.
He'd moved to California, started his career as both a professional athlete and a full-blown celebrity. He was the poster child for the rags-to-riches American Dream - that you too can be rich and famous someday.
Grace Klein had shown up at a game. She'd been cruel to Oliver when they dated in high school, but she was a familiar face in a sea of screaming fans, photo ops and autographs and brand deals. Oliver had asked her to come get a bite to eat with him. She'd been sweet, doting, always smiling. He took her home, they had fell drunkenly giggling into his bed, and they were married six months later.
That had been years ago now. The ground had eventually settled beneath his feet - an agent, a personal assistant and a whole PR team later. He had the money - why not?
But as the ground settled, so did Oliver. The wins didn't matter anymore. He had four Superbowl rings. That should matter, shouldn't it?
His house was big enough for several families to live comfortably. But what did that matter? Cat wasn't there - it had come too late. And after Grace had been extremely adamant about never wanting children, something that had broken Oliver's heart into so many pieces he didn't know if he'd ever find them all again, the blond had agreed to a vasectomy - anything to keep his wife happy. Just like the cars, the indoor, heated, salt water pool, the vacations, the walk-in closet filled with designer clothes and bags and shows. The other walk-in closet that might as well have been a Tiffany's showroom. The constant gifts, the flower deliveries, anything. Because as time passed, Oliver knew that even if he had everything - he had nothing.
The first affair had hurt - finding another man in his bed with his wife had shocked him to his bones. In retrospect he realized how stupid that was - of course she was cheating. She had been since the beginning. He'd left for a while, sat in silence, trying to decide what to do. But Oliver and Grace Dash were a power couple, were in tabloids, posted all over online. They were the Southern Ken and Barbie that little girls dreamed of being someday.
So he'd let it go. He'd sent her dozens of pink roses and the most expensive chocolates he could find, sent her her favorite desserts, had the diamond in her wedding bad replaced with one twice as large. He'd doted on her, knowing without a doubt that he didn't love her, never really had, never really would. The second affair had still stung, but an NDA later he just let it fall off his back.
Whatever it took to keep Grace happy.
He didn't know how many other men there had been at this point. And if he stopped to think, it made him sad, yes, not because he so desperately loved her, but because she was the only person he truly had. But he knew that wasn't true.
All the money and fame in the world wouldn't have made him any less lonely.
He'd tried affairs himself, as disgusting as they made him feel. Women who looked at him with hearts in their eyes, clung to his every word. But there was never anything there. Just another NDA, just another woman who got upset when on the third or forth meeting he didn't greet her with diamonds.
The sex was nice, sure. But it didn't solve anything, didn't even feel good during. He just felt dirty, cheating on the woman who he was positive had another man in their bed at home.
Alcohol helped for a bit. Stretches when he wasn't playing, when they weren't training, when he wasn't at an away game and being watched every step of the way. Drunken nights and women and bottle service of whatever was the most expensive. Bathroom hook ups, hotel rooms, vacations.
Even with everything, he still tried to be a good man. He never turned down anything that had to do with children, always did everything he could with the Make-a-Wish Foundation, donated millions each year to children's hospitals, foster programs, anything he could to help impoverished children who lived how he had had to, how his little sister had.
He would never stop, but even his team had turned that into a PR move, a way to increase his likability, his star power. And even that one good thing, that one happy thing, had begun to leave a acidic burn in the back of his mouth, a disgusting, grimy feeling that couldn't be washed away.
He wasn't a person anymore. Hadn't been for years.
Alcohol had turned to cocaine had become heroin. He was conscious enough to know that he had finally lost himself completely, that the only thing he even thought about now was a needle in his veins, was the rush of ecstasy, the nothingness that the drug brought him.
He thought about it alot - how nothing mattered, how everything he had dreamed of as a boy meant nothing, how hard work had landed him exactly where his own father had ended up. That Cat was still dead and turning to bones in the ground that he had left behind years ago. That he was only getting older and eventually he wouldn't be able to play anymore. How everything that his life had become could be gone with one slip up, one wrong word, one wrong move, anything. He was teetering on a high wire with a bottle in one hand and a needle in the other and he was inevitably going to crash to the floor below. He knew there was no net beneath.
But that was okay too. Because he had the same plan now that he had as a teenager - all it would take was the cold taste of metal against his tongue, one simple squeeze of his hand. And then it was either to hell or to oblivion and either way was a release.
Walking into the bar now, having finished up yet another event, kids with loving parents and so much potential coming to him and telling him that they wanted to be like him when they grew up, Oliver itching for another high and fighting back so hard the need to tell them to never, ever become like him, Oliver needed a drink. The tiny plastic bag in the back pocket of these stupid, awful fucking designer jeans that Grace insisted that he wore would have to wait until later when there wasn't three of his teammates there with him. For now, he wanted some whiskey, some peace and quiet, and to listen to some decent music. The needle would come in when he was alone behind the gate of his home, still inside the stupid fucking car that he had bought on a whim. A car that was worth more than his childhood home and everything in it. A car that probably could have saved his sister's life.
He ordered a double, straight, and threw it back without hesitation.

Chapter 15: The Journal and Roscoe’s Wedding
Over the course of three days since she last saw Buster, Gail heard those knocks again, but this time it was a delivery man who brought her flowers. They were nicer than the ones she got before. On the note attached to the bouquet, she read the message; Dear Gail, it was I who’s the chump when I realized that I should’ve got you something when I came over. No matter, it’s not too late anyway. Wishing you the best of health and hope you had plenty of rest! - BK. Grabbing the vase and filling it with flowers, she smiled at his gesture. Then another day, Gail went out to the movie theater to see The Iron Mule, as Buster had recommended. She hadn't been in a cinema for a while because she was busy working in a background role and so much else was going on. When the short played, Gail recognized the featured locomotive, The Rocket Train, from Keaton's Our Hospitality. She thought it was likely due to Arbuckle's connections to his colleague. Seven minutes into the film, an Indian showed up in the frame to board one of the coaches. When Buster mentioned looking out for that character, Gail wondered he secretly took part as that Indian. She couldn't recognize him underneath the concealing makeup. When the train rolled without the engineer and most of the passengers, the Indian escaped by throwing a rope to the stake, when he made a landing and then performed a somersault when the rope caught up to him, Gail knew that was Buster from his past stunts. He confirmed it when he came over to check on her the next day.
“Yes, I was that Indian fellow for the stunts,” said the comedian, sitting beside Gail at her table. “And you know that Train was one of my films?”
“Right! Our Hospitality!” She chirped in. “I knew as soon as I saw it.” Gail was grateful that he called before to confirm another visit before lunch break is over. Sally had practice, so they wouldn’t worry about her barging in. She had put together cucumber sandwiches for him in thanks for comforting her.
“My team did a fine job building the Rocket that everybody thought it’s a real deal since it looked authentic,” he said taking a bite.
Gail poured herself the last of the milk for the day, “Did you ever think that you would be a film director?”
“Hell, I never saw myself stepping into the film 10 years ago.” He excused himself for using obscenity in her presence. She didn't mind. She drank the milk as he continued telling his story, “My pop never let us go to the flickers growing up. He thought they were a fad.” He continued, “William Randolph Hearst offered us to make a two-reeler based on the comic strip that ran on his papers, but Pop rejected the idea, saying that nobody would want to watch Three Keatons on a bedsheet for a dime. I ended up working with Roscoe some years before that Hearst bastard helped slander his name on the headlines.”
“Just too bad he’s reduced to making cheap comedies,” Gail sighed.
“He’ll get back on his feet. I’m sure of it,” Buster looked at her cast, then to her face, “What’ll happen to you once the cast is off?”
Gail could never be more excited to get the stiff plaster off her arm. Of course, she needed to expand her film experience once she was able to work again. “I could go out looking for background roles again,” she said. “I hope to hear from Mr. Sennett again.”
“I thought you quit working on shorts.”
She reminded him, “If he offered me a leading or supporting role, I will do so. I can always make time for features.”
While Buster was about to say something to her, he noticed something on her couch, “What’s this you got there?” He pointed to a larger book on the coffee table.
Appalled, Gail didn't realize that she left it there, “Oh, it’s nothing- it’s something, it’s not too important- for you.” she carried it with her arm. it then slipped off to the floor. Buster offered to help. The ticket stub was discarded to the floor she picked it up quickly, opened the album, and glued the stub back in its place.
“Ah it’s like a Scrapbook,” he said peeking onto the pages with Gail hiding them from him, “My mother made one of the articles from the time when we performed in vaudeville as The Three Keatons.”
“These are for my eyes only not yours.” She closed her journal and placed it under the table, “We never brought up your parents and siblings. How are they?”
He sat down beside her, “Everyone’s doing alright. Ma and the siblings live together. My brother Jingles works in real estate. My sister Louise is finishing another year of school.”
“What about your father?”
He sighed as he took a pause. He replied, “My Folks are separated.”
Gail gave him a sullen look, “I’m sorry, I had no idea.”
“They aren’t divorced, but it felt strange.” he turned away from her, “I didn’t want to talk about it.”
Gail understood right away that Buster was worried about his marriage. She knew he was an unfaithful husband since the end of last year. What she had learned since moving to Los Angeles is that divorce is common for celebrity couples. Buster loved Natalie, but he's unhappy with her and they’ll likely split up. She would tell him that he married the wrong woman and he shouldn't suffer, but instead, she picked up her journal and told him, bringing his attention back, "I wrote something about you."
Gail opened a nicely written page from her journal with Buster looking over her shoulder. The page said as it followed; Sure, Buster almost dresses like Chaplin’s tramp character. but what differs between him and Chaplin is that he didn’t need a greasepaint mustache or that certain make-up to make him more ridiculous. What he needed is his stone face. I’m sure he knew he could be funny on his own.
“This is nice,” Buster complimented, “You wrote it better than what I read from the critics.”
She smiled, “Oh, thank you.”
She patted him in the back, “I don't know what it's like to have parents split up. I imagine how difficult it must be for you. We don't have to talk about your parents unless you feel like it.”
“Gail,” He placed his hand onto her shoulder, “I still want you in my next film. Although it may not be the leading role you were hoping for, I will make sure your role is valued.”
“I was thinking of asking for a background role, guess you beat me to it!” She giggled, which made Buster smile as it was the first time she had ever laughed in front of him.
When Buster brushed his fingers to her cheek, the sight of his wristwatch enabled him to check it, “I gotta get back to my studio!” they stood up, Gail escorted him to the door as the comedian took one last bite of the cucumber sandwich, he thanked her as they shook hands. Keaton didn’t let it go after they stopped, “May I kiss your hand?”
Gail didn't hesitate when she accepted. Buster tugged her right hand by the fingers as he bowed to have his lips make contact with her hand for a bit before leaving her home in a hurry. Through the window, Gail watched him get into his car and drive off as she waved.
After cleaning the table, she sat down on her couch and turned to a page with a photo of Buster as a child and an old article about the Three Keatons which she had gotten from an old family friend. Gails eyes fell on the very hand Keaton planted a kiss on and had her hand to her lips, like if he kissed her.
*******************************
Buster didn’t bring up to Gail that Roscoe was getting married in worry that he might jinx it. His former mentor was going to marry Doris Deane almost two months ago. His first wife Minta filed for divorce in Paris as a result, the divorce was not legally binding for weeks according to French law. So it had to be postponed. The Wedding was held in the home of Deane’s mother. The altar was surrounded by flowers. Buster, appointed as the best man, stood beside Arbuckle as the judge officiated the ceremony. Keaton’s eyes went to Natalie, a matron of honor, holding a flower bouquet. It all made him think the last time the Tux wearing Keaton stood on the same altar as his wife was their wedding day. It was in Long Island, They were very much in love. Buster’s ankle was still recovering while he was standing next to Natalie was wearing a white chiffon dress, pure as she was. Right after the wedding, Natalie was congratulated by her friends and family while Keaton was trying to reach his bride, an incident that became the ending scene to Seven Chances. He then took her by the hand and they went into his car to head back to California. Buster regretted it for not including his parents, siblings, and close friends, including Roscoe. At least he got to be present for the time when his former mentor finally went into matrimony for the second time. Keaton grinned when the groom kissed his bride, having the best thing that happened to his friend since his career went downhill following the accusations for the rape that never happened. When it was time for the photographs to be taken the comedian frowned again to maintain his stone face reputation.
Following the ceremony, the guests retreated to a dinner party hosted by Natalie. there was mingling from guests such as Mr. and Mrs. Schenck, Dutch, Peg, and Mr. and Mrs. Lou Anger.
Buster poured himself a drink from the little table and went outside to clear himself from the crowd.
Keaton took a handful of sips when he heard the groom calling to him, “Here’s to the best man.”
Turning around, he grinned, "I would say the same to you, Chief." he brought another glass, not realizing he already took one, but Keaton grabbed it anyway.
he toasted to his pal, “I wish you and Doris a happy marriage.” At least happier than himself and Natalie.
They clinked the glasses together and drank. Arbuckle noticed his sudden down expression, “Are you thinking of that dame again?”
Buster had told him about Gail every time they met up. “I don’t know, maybe,” Buster said while looking at his drink. “I think she has a crush on me.”
Roscoe wasn’t surprised, “You have a likable face, they fall for you, and you take them to bed next thing.”
“Except we haven’t done anything, we’re just friends.” he had friends that were women, some of them he knew growing up. “Sure we enjoyed each other’s company with her being so compassionate to me. All Nate has done lately is treat me as a prize to show off her friends.” he sipped his glass again, “Still, I appreciated her for being a mother of my boys.”
“Do you like this actress?” he asked, having picked up the glass that buster finished.
“Yes, but I love my wife.” he swirled the liquor when playing around with it, “I already pissed her off a bunch of times. And Gail, she had been through a lot. I cannot be breaking any more hopes from her.”
“The last actress you were with took advantage and almost gave you a black eye.”
“I don’t think Gail would be the person who would hit anyone,” he said while shaking his head. “Besides, she only wanted to be my actress. Whatever happens, at least I had someone to lean on. Besides you Chief.”
“Come on Bus, the dinner is ready.” Roscoe went inside. Before joining him, Buster spotted the moon and imagined Gail’s face on it.

background
your unwed parents were elated but nervous to welcome two children into the world at once . you arrived twelve minutes ahead of your sibling . before you , they had never seen a sparkle in someone’s eyes as bright as yours — one deep & cornflower blue , the other dipped in honey with speckles of gold . the first eleven years of your life were blissful , content , easy - going . you were the flower girl at their wedding . your father was a pilot in the marines . your sweet mother didn’t know a thing until it was too late . she was a labor & delivery nurse with long hours . she was a bit of a treehugger . you grew up recycling & never eating a meal with animal products . when she wasn’t working , she was taking care of the kids . she didn’t notice when he came home too l a t e . or when he didn’t swing by during lunch . she had no reason to suspect he was fooling around during his deployments ( and his days off , for that matter ) . one day there was a knock at the door . a fellow officer had come by to tell mrs . haas that she had fallen pregnant ... with mr . haas’s baby . by the time mr . haas pulled into the driveway following a tiresome shift , you were long gone .
you adapted to the san francisco area well enough . the burden of two children was getting the best of your mother so you never complained . when your oma came to live with you , things were starting to look up for you . conversations with dad were fleeting but he told you he missed you . and he loved you . he told you about your new baby brother . thirteen would be the last year you received a birthday card from your father before you stopped hearing from him at all . your mother went into travel nursing that same year . she needed an escape . a new start . but she wouldn’t uproot her family again . so as she traveled the continental u.s. , you & your sibling stayed behind with oma . you were always a mommy’s girl . she was your idol . and then she was gone . you formed a friendship with your oma . you learned her recipes , the shows she liked & the songs she loved to sing . but the scars on your wrists proved how lonely you truly were .
your life was dull . you wanted to feel something . cutting led to drinking which led to parties which led to boys . they said they adored you , but you quickly learned that only meant they adored what was in your pants . when you didn’t put out , they made up lies . you kept your circle small from that point forward . you looked out for them & they looked out for you . your brief brushes with love & the lived experience of divorce hardened you . until you saw him . alexsander knew the rumors of course , but that didn’t stop him from asking you on a date . in the beginning you were afraid . stand - offish . but he won your heart . you’d be inseparable ever since . you’d never seen a love quite like his . gentle , passionate , devoted . his flaws were merely tiny hiccups in your happily ever after . you could fix him , the way he fixed you . when it was time for college , you couldn’t let him go . rom valley wasn’t too far away from your old life with oma . with a tank full of gas & a couple of hours on the road , you could easily visit . so you left . you joined a sorority & other organizations . your job at twin peaks was supposed to be ironic but your quite the chatty cathy . lonely men were eager for your conversation , so , the money was good . not that you needed it . but the independence felt nice . you majored in psychology because you wanted to help girls who reminded you of yourself . college was the best time of your life .
you would’ve sworn that happiness would last forever . then you got the call from your mother . she was thousands of miles away & frantic . she said oma had a heart attack . in the three hours it took to drive home , she passed away . you were crushed . but alexsander was there . he made sure you didn’t slip through the cracks . he supported you through your grief . life returned to normal after a few months . the guilt lingered . you smiled through it . when you graduated , you began working for a publishing company . a professor recommended you for the job , actually . you loved it . you got married . you had a baby . alina . because she was the light of your life . if you couldn’t have the perfect family then you would make your own . it slipped alexsander’s mind to pick up his daughter from practice . you chastised him , reminding him that nothing was more important than his family . you were hit by a drunk driver going above the speed limit . only ten minutes away from home . of the two passengers , only you survived . they told you in the hospital that she died on impact . your precious alina didn’t feel any pain . but you did . you couldn’t eat or sleep . you fell into a deep depression . a wife who loses a husband is a widow . a child that loses its parents is an orphan . there’s no word for a parent who loses their child . that’s how awful the loss is . and where was your prince ? drowning his sorrows in brown liquor . when you lost her , you lost him too . you tried to help . you tried to set aside your grief to heal him too . it didn’t work . the man lying next to you was a stranger . so you left . you took your time filing for a divorce . you put all your focus into writing a book . the tale of a girl who lost every love she’d ever known . it was you . a new york times best seller . you toured the world sharing your story . your mother served your husband the papers a month before the reunion . the event completely slipped your mind .
personality
you can be one of the most loyal people any could ever encounter because you’re is so thoughtful & generous . everyone knows you’re goal - oriented . naturally , it’s rather difficult for you to let people in so when you actually do care for someone you’ll will go to the ends of the earth to prove her friendship . even in a platonic sense you’re often embracing others , holding hands or placing pecks on the cheek . you’re innately charismatic , perceptive , & observant . your radiant personality has it’s less admirable side . you’re known to be a little too sensitive , sarcastic , envious , bellicose . a mix of her upbringing & her aquarius sun sign . your life has made you jaded . you’re not the bottle blonde you were in college . you can’t have a meal without having a drink . there’s a crack in your smile that even you can’t hide .

Love Desires Chapter 3
Disclaimer: I don't own CSI: Miami, Anthony Zuker, and CBS do.
Beta'd by: calleighstorres
It was a beautiful summer day. Natalia and Horatio were relaxing on one of the deck chairs by the poolside. Natalia sighed. At the moment, she and Horatio were at the most romantic all-inclusive Sandals resort in St. George, Grenada, for their honeymoon.
The last ten days explored the island, and what it had to offer: diving, visiting a rum distillery, a tour of the chocolate company, and of a spice plantation. They visited nearby Martinique and enjoyed fish Friday along with listening to steel pan music, which was much more different than what they heard back in Miami. They then visited Fort Matthew made the climb up magnificent views made arduous hike the more worthwhile. They also participated in water and land sports and had a blast doing so. As much as they explored the outside, they also stayed in and explored each other.
Now on their last day, and they were enjoying their last day snuggling and making out. A short time later, Natalia said, "I am going to go for a swim because it could be a while before swimming again."
With that, she got up but not before exchanging another kiss. After she got in the pool, Horatio rested on the deck chair he reminisced back to their wedding.
-Ten days earlier-
It was a sunny day in Santa Monica, their big day had arrived, and they couldn't be more ready. They choose to go small and intimate; it was easier since their jobs were demanding. For the location, Natalia and Horatio would have picked one of the sandy beaches in Miami. Still, because of the kidnappings and deaths, they decided to have it close to where Horatio proposed to her.
Once Calleigh, Maxine, Anya, and Christine made their way down the aisle as the maid of honor and bridesmaids, the Bridal Chorus began to play, and everyone stood up. There appeared his beautiful bride with her parents. She had on an off-the-shoulder ball gown wedding dress that hugged her curvy body like a hug, causing Horatio's heart rate to rise a little and swayed a little. Kyle (who was sharing co-best man duties with Eric) noticed his father's sway a little he leaned in whispered, "Dad, I don't think you would want to faint right as your bride arrives."
Horatio steadied himself and nodded as Natalia reached the altar. Once her father Jeffrey had kissed her, he placed Natalia's into Horatio's, they then joined both hands and became lost in their little world. It wasn't long before the officiant announced, "Now Horatio and Natalia have opted to say their vows. Go ahead, Natalia."
Taking his hands in hers and with mists in her eyes, she began. "Horatio, my handsome Ginger man. I never thought I would never find love again. Then you came and showed me what real love is all about. You loved and treated me like a queen, and with respect, and I will be forever grateful. Horatio, my promise to you is that I will try to be worthy of your love and trust. I promise that I will be honest as well as be kind, patient, and forgiving. But most of all, Horatio, I promise to be a true and loyal friend to you. I love you."
Horatio brought Natalia's hands up for a kiss and said, "Natalia, I was completely lost after losing someone close to my heart. You came in and have shown that it is possible to love again. I promise to love you in good times and in bad, and I cherish you and respect you. Natalia, I give these things I give to you today for the rest of our life."
Once the final blessing was performed, the officiant said, "Horatio and Natalia have vowed their life and love in front of you all today. Now vested in me in the state of California. I now pronounce husband and wife."
Turning to Horatio, the officiant said, "You may kiss the bride."
Horatio stepped closer and pulled her into a loving kiss. Natalia held him even closer and gave him an equally loving kiss.
The officiant announced, "It's with great honor that I now present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Horatio Caine!"
The entire wedding guests all stood up and cheered as they made their way down the recessional as husband and wife.
Horatio deep in thought but lost his train of thought when he saw her exiting the pool dripping wet and looking like a million bucks. He got up and met her halfway. Before she had a chance to towel off, he threw her off a little only for him to sweep her up in a sizzling kiss. When they parted lips, she said in an erotic tone, "Hey handsome I'm about to head off the shower, would you like to join me and possibly work on our honeymoon baby?"
Horatio didn't need to be asked a second time. He jumped up and took her in his arms and said, "Let's go, my love."
They soon had a trail of clothing that led to their bathroom.
~10 months after the honeymoon, 2015~
The pregnancy had been smooth, and the delivery was fast. Natalia and she eve decided that she wanted to go without an epidural, which led Horatio to admire her even more. She pushed long and hard, and it wasn't long, and Baby Girl Caine had come into the world screaming loud and clear. Natalia held her for mother to newborn skin to skin contact for a little before letting daddy do the same and Natalia getting the sleep she needed.
They knew that Kyle would be coming soon, the Boa Vistas along with Christine and her family, and Anya would come by after lunch.
As Horatio held his daughter, he relished being able to hold a baby in his arms. He knew that babies grew up so fast, and he was cherishing this moment.
After Horatio had completed his part of the skin to skin contact, he held her in his arms as baby girl Caine slept. Horatio whispered, "My darling daughter, your mama, big brother Kyle and I have been waiting for you. We loved you when we found out you would be coming to us. You have many uncles and aunties who love you and will protect no matter what."
No sooner had Horatio finish talking to his daughter when he heard, "Dad?"
Horatio turned around and saw Kyle with balloons, flowers for Natalia, and a teddy bear for the baby. Putting a finger to his lips and nodded to the side Kyle knew what that meant. Setting down the gifts, he hugged his dad, Kyle asked, "How's Natalia?"
Horatio replied, "It was a long, and she is getting the sleep she deserved. As soon as he had said that when Natalia woke up, "Did I hear someone call my name?"
Kyle walked over and hugged his step-mother, "Hey mom, how are you feeling?"
Natalia was so happy when Kyle began calling her mom. She welcomed him with open arms and knew that he needed the mothering touch that he didn't get with Julia. Natalia said with a tired smile, "Sleepy and sore but otherwise happy."
Kyle saw the pink bundle and asked, "Is that, my little sister?"
Horatio answered, "It is, would you like to hold her?"
Kyle was nervous, but Natalia said reassuringly, "Don't worry, you will be great."
Horatio gently placed his daughter into her big brother's waiting arms, and Kyle asked, "What is her name?"
Horatio said, "Son, meet Erin Marika Caine."
Natalia added, "Right now, you are the first to know."
With a smile on his face, Kyle said, "I will remain quiet until everyone knows. He looked at his sleeping baby sister, "Hey Erin. It's your big brother here. You are lucky to have the best parents ever. As for me I will make sure you are protected, loved, and teach you all the things you need to know."
With that, Kyle saw a hint of a smile from his baby sister, and it warmed his heart even more. Half an hour later Kyle had left to work at the Police Department in Parkland. Just before visiting hours ended for the day, the dayshift team with tons of gifts in hand arrived at the hospital to visit with the new family. Eric gave his boss and former brother-in-law and said, "Hey H, Natalia, congrats you the birth of your daughter."
Calleigh and Alexx made a beeline for Natalia. When the ladies saw her head peeking out, "She is so beautiful!"
Ryan, who was close by with Walter, pointed out, "No, duh look at who her parents are."
Walter poked Ryan hard in the arm and said, "Save the dry wit for the job, man."
With Calleigh holding the newborn, Alexx said, "No matter what, we are going to spoil this little girl."
Eric asked, "So have you guys decided on a name for this little cutie?"
With a teary smile, Natalia said, "Ok, you know how Horatio and I were hesitant at one point before we go together?"
Everyone nods. Natalia continues, "Well, Horatio and I had a guardian angel who gave us the nudge we needed. Well, we saw this middle name. We thought it was perfect. Everyone, Horatio, and I would like you to meet Erin Marika Caine."
Everyone in the room gasped. Eric was especially moved. Eric shed tears of joy, and said, "I am happy you and H decided to honor Mari. I know that would she be honored and will be Erin's guardian angel."
Everyone nodded in agreement. Just then, the team all felt a breeze come into the room. But only Eric and Horatio smelled Marisol's favorite fragrance and knew she was with them in spirit. Indeed Marisol was present. She bent down, kissed her brother's and Horatio's cheek which was followed little Erin's forehead. Right then, the baby opened her eyes, instead of it being blue like Horatio's or mocha brown like Natalia’s, it was hazel; just like Marisol. They all knew then Mari was a part of Erin and of course, watch Erin grow up and help guide her.
Indeed it was their heart's desires that helped them get what they each's other's love.
A/N: Thanks for reading the third and final chapter of "Love Desires" As always, reviews are appreciated!
