I was rewatching TMNT 2003 and then when I got to last episode I heard Splinter call Casey his son :,)

I had no idea this series could find new ways to just make my heart die with happiness but it did.

AND APRIL SAYING SPLINTER'S BEEN LIKE A FATHER TO HER TOO 😭😭 THIS FAMILY MAKES ME SO EMOTIONAL. I LOVE THEM!

My only question is how did I miss this in my first watch???

Rewatching Wedding Bells and Bytes (because I love the massive found family the turtles have created for themselves) and damn. I know what the studio’s reasons were or whatever but I kinda wonder what would make Casey and April decide to have a wedding while Splinter was still lost in Cyberspace. Like… how did you guys come to the conclusion that while your best friends are looking for their dad it’s the best time to get married??

My one theory is that maybe they were trying to keep moving on in a way? Maybe they wanted to deal with it so that they could have that done and keep helping? Both kinda sad reasons for a wedding though :(

My favorite turtle is definitely Donatello. It's funny; I think as a kid/teenager, I would have leaned more towards Raphael knowing my tastes back then? But in my adulthood, I've developed a preference for nice, hardworking sweethearts who turn out to be major nerds/dorks, and Donnie definitely falls into this category. Incredibly kind, considerate, and intelligent with a bit of a clumsy streak, but he's also no pushover, can be quite sassy, and is just as terrifying as Raph when he's mad, if Same As It Never Was is anything to go by. (The fact that he shares his VA with my favorite bachelor from Rune Factory 4 is a nice bonus lol)

Hmm, favorite and least favorite episodes... In terms of story arcs, Good Genes is definitely my favorite even though Don is once again suffering at the hands of the plot. Other favorite arcs include The Shredder Strikes Back, Rogue in the House, the Big Brawl, Space Invaders/Worlds Collide, and Exodus. As for individual episodes:

Most of the episodes I do dislike, rather understandably, come from Fast Forward and Back to the Sewer just because the writing quality dipped during those seasons, though I'm willing to confess that I've always been very lukewarm towards the episodes involving the superheroes/Justice Force. It's weird; Peter Laird basically said that if you can accept all the other crazy stuff in the TMNT multiverse, you should be able to accept superheroes being a thing, but somehow I always felt them to be the most out of place aspect of the universe? Probably just because when compared to most other aspects of the series, they come off as pretty goofy. (Never mind how often they get their butts kicked.)

The only other episode that I didn't really like from the first five seasons was The People's Choice from Season 4. It was something of a Donatello-focused episode and would have been a great opportunity to explore what was going through his head in the aftermath of both Same As It Never Was and Exodus but... yeah, no, we got a random, unrelated battle with two aliens that ultimately never gets brought up again lmao.

I think what you're talking about is the Back to the Sewers episode "Wedding Bells and Bytes", and they did not have any direct interaction, no. None that we saw. I like to soothe my heart by thinking that they talked off-camera.

There is but one scene where they are even in the same frame;

Usagi looks terrible and Donnie's mask is orange (and we know it's Donnie because Mikey is literally two frames behind this one). Ahh, BTTS. You were. Something.

Oh I lied there is ONE other shot where they show up on screen together.

Say what you want about BTTS, but I actually ADORE the very last episode. Wedding bells and bytes (if you haven't seen the show, and want to, look away spoilers ahead.) As much as I enjoy watching the boys kick bad guy butt, part of me just likes seeing their mellower moments, just doing regular people shit. I ESPECIALLY love the found family angle, of any iteration. I think 2k3 just went on for so long, we got to see the characters grow, even if they were secondary characters. We really believe Casey and April have been adopted into the family, we don't have to be TOLD they've been adopted in.

(again, that's not to say that I don't enjoy how other series did it, I think they all add something to the relationships, I'm just a biased older fan who naturally gravitates to the version I grew up with lmao)

A moment that I legit go back to rewind a million times in this episode, that no one talks about, is when Casey is freaking out thinking April's gotten cold feet.

Splinter just has this warm little smile and puts a hand out to steady him and says "Easy, My Son.."

Casey canonically lost his dad tragically young in this series and Splinter knows it and is like "I'mma be there for this large semi feral man child my kids dragged home one day, he's a good boy. Guess he's mine now."

Not only that he went to go get April from the farmhouse which implies, HE HAD EVERY INTENTION OF WALKING HER DOWN THE AISLE!!

Then the fucking plot kicked in with the dumbass ginger shredder guy, I don't even remember or care about. I am still. So. Irrationally annoyed by this!!

What do you all think 03 April’s parents were like because to my memory I don’t think April mentions anything about them (shit I don’t even think any of April’s family makes an appearance in wedding bells and bytes?) but I’m thinking maybe they were really present? Or they were always off working which caused strain on their relationship with April cause that’s the best I got?

Yeah!!! that was the finale! I binged all of 03 a couple months ago but i keep going back to watch a few of my favorite eps now and then. I thought it wrapped up the series pretty well but i still grieve the loss of the original designs, new april just doesnt hit the same 😔😔😔

For a long time now, I’ve been developing a ‘Finale’ AU for TMNT 2003. The Wedding Bells and Bytes was a good send off, but I felt like there were some things left that could have happened ( I personally don’t count Turtles Forever as canon, a lot of movies on fictional series tend not to be canon) 

This Finale takes place ten or so years after the canon ending, each of the turtles are married (to muh OCs lol) minus Raphael (don’t worry, he’s getting there) and have moved on with their future lives.

Starting with the Fearless Leader-

Leonardo had gone off to finish training with the Ancient One (my favorite character next to Fearless btw) while Kimiko (oc) had gone to train with the Tribunal for a few years. Later he and Kimmy marry and have their first child, Annabelle.  ( Leo sets up this scavenger hunt game where he plants notes in various places they had been to starting with the first lair where they met [ these include tests and puzzles] each note has a letter or symbol that Kim will have to unscramble until it becomes ‘Will You Marry Me?’ it’s a little something I’m writing on the side~) Because of events in 2105 where young Anna had come to the future on a complete accident (she was able to go back) and Kimiko disappearing (this will happen much later in the Next Gen story) , Leo feels somewhat uneasy as that time could happen soon. Because of that, he tries to spend as much time as he can with both Kimiko and Annabelle.

He becomes a Guardian, assuming the place once held by Hamato Yoshi. While the Guardians themselves had gone to the Utrom Homeworld, some had split off into different factions and to other parts of the galaxies in hopes to prevent another travesty like Ch'rell (which took the Utoms 100 years to capture btw only to lose him for thousands more bc plot). Leonardo, being one for justice and to protect his home, remembering the horrors he and his family had to face, immediately accepted the position. 

While training with Ancient One, he picked up a hobby for Shodo, or calligraphy art. 

 Presently, as there hasn't been much in the way of danger, Leonardo has begun training the next gens as he has the experience from teaching Cody Jones in 2105. HOWEVER, Poor Fearless can't cook to save his life....unless it's something like instant ramen-

Moving onto Kimiko-

After Casey and April's Wedding, Kimiko had been offered to train with the Tribunal for a few years while Leonardo resumed his training with the Ancient One. Through this, she learned of a few techniques that would prove useful in her later career, such as using her focus to increase speed or into her fist for a strengthened punch (pretty much some the techniques the turtles had used during their time in the tribunal, minus the avatar part ofc) or track down targets. Her final test before leaving the Tribunal was to slay an awakened demon lord by the name of Megitsu, a kitsune, which she did with the aid of the turtles bc she's not insane....well..maybe she is still a little bit....

  Kimiko has since become a much brighter individual, learning to love and accept herself. She’s much calmer and more level headed than she used to be. However she is still stubborn and sassy af. She is still somewhat paranoid, constantly worrying over her child's well being. 

Kimiko later begins to partner with Agent Bishop, he is now an ally and is now forming the Pan Galactic Alliance. She is currently an espionage unit who works solo, but does tag along with another mutant and her best friend, Talon, occasionally.

The Omamori Charm tied to her belt was a gift from Leonardo the Christmas before the Alien Invasion. The kanji on it reads ‘Chisai’ and ‘Kame’ or ‘Little Turtle’ as when they were growing up, Leo would refer to her as such because of how much shorter she was than the others. Whenever she feels off, needs encouragement when alone, or scared, Kimiko can hold onto it as it’s filled with little, tiny prayers to help her. The Sakura Pin in her hair is another gift from Leo, after his first visit to the Ancient One ~

There was something I really enjoyed about the last episode of the 2k3 series, "Wedding Bells and Bytes."

April and Casey's wedding in its entirety was wonderfully wholesome. I did feel the "final showdown" with the Viral-Shredder was meh at best, but it was great seeing all these characters from the series band together against this Shredder.

But I think seeing all those characters was what I enjoyed the most about the episode.

The beginning of the series was of Master Splinter drilling into the turtles' heads that the surface is dangerous. People will view them with distrust. Stay in the shadows.

Fast forward (no pun intended) to the last episode where all of April and Casey's wedding guests know of and were friends with the brothers. Despite all their trials and tribulations, the turtles had met and created this found family, all of which were willing to help defeat the turtles' biggest foe.

That kind of narrative arc was done really well.
