I've been rewatching the 2003 TMNT series for the first time in almost 20 years and it kills me to see people complaining about Leo not getting a cool weapon from the spirit forge like his brothers did. Personally I would have cried if he had gotten a new weapon because guys.
GUYS.
This was his spirit forge.
For those who don't remember, the Foot ninjas not only ambushed poor Leo in The Shredder Strikes Back episodes, but they took his katanas. Leo's injuries were severe enough to send him into a coma and although he woke up from it in Tales of Leo, his recovery was not complete until the episode Monster Hunter. This episode mostly focused on Donnie and Mikey getting into trouble at the Jones' farm, but the subplot is centered around Leo's continued recovery.
And guess who was there to help him through it all?
Raph, who is considered to have a very combative relationship with Leo, was the one to stick by his side and help him forge his katanas. Those swords are not only symbols of Leo's resilience, but of the bonds of brotherhood. The scene where they forge the katanas together in silence is truly one of the most tender moments in the entire series.
And sure, Leo eventually used Gunshin after Karanji gave it to him and said that it truly belonged to him, but you know what? I think he was lying. I think that he trusted Leo enough to let him wield his weapon from the spirit forge and knew that Leo wouldn't take Gunshin from him otherwise. And maybe there was some pity there too, since Karanji was the last person to draw a weapon from the spirit forge before Leo's failed attempt. And sure, Leo wasn't gonna get a weapon from the spirit forge because how else were the writers going to continue the themes of Leo overcoming adversity and rejection?
But I personally like to believe that the spirit forge went out on its own because it couldn't offer any weapon more precious than the one he made with his brother.

5.) Which iterations are you familiar with?
14.) Which version of Splinter is your favorite?
Thank you for the asks!
5. I am mostly familiar with the 2k3 versions of the turtles boys. I was young enough to see some of the '87 cartoon on Saturday mornings, which was my true introduction to them and the reason why I got excited to see the 2k3 version when that came around.
14. I love the blend of father and sensei that 2k3 Master Splinter was. He did his best with what he had and you can tell he loves his sons. Splinter from the '87 cartoon was more sensei than anything else, which worked, but the difference between the two versions was front and center during the Turtles Forever when the '87 turtles were confused that the 2k3 turtles called their Splinter "father." Splinter from the 90s movies also holds a special place in my heart.

tmnt ask game, 20 and 30?
Thank you for the ask! <3
20. Which theme song is your favorite?
Despite it not being my favorite season whatsoever, I really enjoy the Back to the Sewers theme from 2003's Season Seven. Honorable mentions would be the updated original theme of the 2k3 show and the fun theme of the '87 series.
30. What is one common headcanon that you reject?
I cannot for the life of me come up with any common headcanons that I absolutely reject (unless it has to do with tcest). I enjoy seeing all the headcanons around here for all versions of the turtles, especially the ones that have to do with creativity and seeing more representation. Apologies for the cop-out answer, lol.

Keeping company for the bedridden.
I imagine in the first couple weeks or so when Leo is too tired to do anything more than sleep, he welcomes the safety and comfort. Once he becomes more coherent, the moping and self-isolation start >_>

thinking about sainw (again. still.)
And how like. Yes of course they did lose a big strategic advantage in the fight against Shredder by losing their tech guy. We can look at moments where Donny's noticing something others didn't or having background knowledge others wouldn't made a difference in the main timeline.
But you know, that was kind of a secondary thing. Nobody's saying "without your engineering we were outgunned by Ch'rell's alien technology." In fact the good guys had Stockman on their team, though being stuck to Hun could have limited his usefulness. But Mikey does say "without you, it just didn't work," and April does say that Casey and Splinter "never gave up on you." And with the way the events unfold it's very implied, 'without you we didn't know how to help Raph and Leo when they needed it.' I mean Raph and Leo's split was more directly caused by Splinter's death than Donny's disappearance, and yet. It's just the way the story builds really brings attention not so much to his role as the team tech guy, but as the team mediator
it's not "we needed your strengths to be weapons against Shredder," it's "we needed our strengths and without you we couldn't find them"
Because there are some huge losses of personality traits for each of them
Mikey, the guy who keeps them all together--watches Raph and Leo split apart, gives up on the idea of family. No more point in humor of there's no one to protect from the darkness
Raph, always reliable, always a survivor, always got your back--leaves the team
Leo, never gives up hope, never stops fighting for what he believes in, sees his team's strengths and strategizes accordingly--not trying to organize. Working on the fringes of the rebellion, initially against giving it one last shot because that's how they lost Casey.
Just the fact that the biggest loss was so clearly the relationship and not the things he could've done for then--makes me emotional
And a good thing to keep in mind for writing purposes if changing the turtle who disappears
