This is a shot in the dark ask but do you know where I can find medical textbooks? What textbooks do you rec? And what other resources do you use? I'm starting medschool next year and I'm really nervous about it 😅
Thank you!
hello :))
you can find almost all medical books in libgen and its alternatives. i only really used guyton for physiology, janneway immunobiology, robbins pathology and usmle step 1 guide for other stuff and they're good i recommend them! especially robbins pathology
for other resources i used boards and beyond generally, the subscription is expensive as hell don't bother with it you can find their stuff pirated online, osmosis is an alternative (also subscription based unfortunately🙃) but i find their videos and notes a little superficial in comparison. ninja nerd on yt is good for biochemistry, histoloyguide for histology, webpath for pathology, some of my friends also used anki flashcards but i didn't...that's what i can think of off the top of my head😭 idk honestly i relied mainly on my lectures and b&b and occasionally the textbooks

that specific melancholy of, upon an evening, being seized with a desire to look upon an old webpage that once, as a young child, gave you a strange amount of joy, and soon learning that no amount of delving through webpaths and the Wayback Machine shall bring you too it; that small, simple iota of your childhood is forever lost to you

Cartographies des premiers réseaux internet ( suite ).
1 . A screenshot of a 3D model of the vBNS network which connects universities and laboratories in the USA
2.  Conversation Map, developed by Warren Sack. It is a browser designed to make it easier for participants to understand and reflect on very large-scale virtual conversations like mailing lists or Usenet newsgroups.
3.   PITS - Populated Information Terrains, an experimental information visualisation technique developed by Dave Snowdon, Steve Benford and colleagues in the University of Nottingham. It is an advanced VR system that allows multiple participants to interact with information and collaborate with each other.
4.   The 3D cityscape view of the Web generated by Map.Net. You fly-through the world, with individual websites represented by different buildings. The large skyscrapers are the most popular and important site on the Web.
5.   Visualising information spaces using Apple's Meta Content Format (MCF). The Hotsauce plug-in allows you to fly thru the information. It was developed by R.V.Guha.
6.   A more abstract map of some of the 802.11b wireless base station nodes in central London, provided by Consume.
7.   Tree Studio, developed by Inxight Software, provided a neat fisheye style interactive website map. It is a spin-off from information visualisation research at Xerox PARC. The example below is a Site Lens map of Monterey Bay Aquarium website.
8.   Mapuccino is a neat Java application for dynamically constructing interactive visual maps of Web sites developed by the IBM's Haifa Research Lab in Israel.
9.   Site Manager from Silicon Graphics, a web site visualisation tool.
10.   Nicheworks is a interactive tool for visualising massive networks with hundreds of thousands of nodes. It was developed by Graham Wills at Bell Labs. The screen-shots here show Nicheworks visualisation of the network structure of a large Web site.
11.  WebPath, "... a tool that unobtrusively visualises a user's trail as they browse the Web", developed by Emmanuel Frécon, a researcher in the Distributed Collaborative Environments group at SICS, and Gareth Smith in the Computing Department, at Lancaster University.

Pulmonary thromboembolus in a large pulmonary artery (Webpath)
Interdigitating areas of pale and red form the “lines of Zahn”
Lines of Zahn show that blood was still flowing when the clot formed. The yellow I drew are laminations (lines of Zahn), which show that when the clot formed, blood was still flowing, so the clot was there before the pt died. If the clot had formed after the pt died (when blood was no longer flowing), you wouldn’t see the lines of Zahn.

Master post: online resources for preclinical courses
Organized by course, of course. Sorry, I don’t have anything for Biochemistry because I just essentially let Jesus take the wheel on that one and I made it through somehow.
All are free resources unless they have an *
Gross Anatomy
U Mich Practice Practicals
Visible Body Human Atlas*
Visible Body Skeleton Premium*
Histology
Shotgun Histology
Physiology
ECG simulator
ABG ninja
Pulmonary textbook outline
Heart Sounds Podcast Series
Neuroscience
Atlas of Functional Neuroanatomy
Cranial Nerve Study Guide
WISC Neuroanatomy
Midbrain-Diencephalon
Visible Body Skeleton Premium*
Eye Simulator
Pathology
WebPath
Pathoma*
Goljan audio
Microbiology
Sketchy Micro*
Pharmacology
Sketchy Pharm*
Tulane Pharm Wiki
Psychiatry
Online Med Ed
How to Doctor
Stanford 25 for physical exam skills
Some info on the paid resources:
1. Pathoma: 100% recommend it, 13/10 Dr. Sattar will teach you pathology better than anyone else. I wouldn’t have survived without him.
2. Sketchy Medical: I religiously swear by Sketchy Micro. Get it Get it Get it. I can’t imagine trying to study micro without it. And it’s not because I have a mega crush on Andrew. They’ve expanded into the pharm and path market as well. I used pharm for antibiotics, which was pretty helpful, but I haven’t checked out path so I can’t comment. I will say pharm is hella long, like 20-30 minutes vs the <10 minutes for micro, in case of attention span issues.
3. Visible Body: These are a series of apps I downloaded on my Macbook for when I was too lazy to go to the lab. I found them so so so helpful when I was studying to see everything in a 3d model, but they’re not *necessary*. I do recommend them if you’re a visual learner. And they’re currently 50% off in the app store!

This is a beautiful post!
Sums up the appropriate approach to MS2/2nd year pathology in a nutshell.
I took short cuts back then, which I still regret to this day, so don’t do it guys! The things you miss or omit from your studies early on do haunt you later, and you find yourself trying to make up for lost time.
Another great resource for images (and questions) that is free is the Utah Webpath.  https://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/webpath.html
Tumblr media
Before even studying pathology, the first question any rational student would ask is: where do I study from? What do I need? Here’s a list of resources that I used and would highly recommend. Books: Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease. I know this is a really big, daunting book with tiny text, but still, hear me out. For every basic science course, having a proper textbook is important. Most students like to avoid textbooks and go straight for review books, but please. Don’t do that. Get the big book and go through it at least once. Or twice. Go through it once to orient yourself preferably with a pencil or a highlighter. Go through it the second time with your review book and add whatever important points are missing to your review book. Once you’re done, close the book and never go through it again. Unless you really want to or need to. Fundamentals of Pathology (Pathoma). The moment I saw this book in the bookstore, I fell in love with it. Pathoma has wide margins on each page and it was a delight to look at for an obsessive note-taker like me who likes to cram things into the smallest space possible. It’s an extremely concise review book, however. There are a lot of things that are missing from it and a lot of things that won’t make sense if you only want to use Pathoma. Use this in conjunction with your main textbook and use the margins properly.
One more thing: because Pathoma is so concise, each and every single sentence is worth highlighting. There is no useless piece of information in this book, no waffling around, nothing. Everything is high yield and important. Instead of highlighting like you usually do, I feel it is a much better idea to use multiple highlighters and to classify the text. For example, I use a color coding system. Pink is for pathology points, blue is for signs and symptoms, orange is for etiology and risk factors- and on and on. First Aid for the USMLE. Called a Bible by some, First Aid should be used as a guide. Flip through it every now and then. Just like Pathoma, it is extremely concise and only talks about high yield things that you absolutely need to know. Use First Aid to figure out where to put more of your effort in as well as some pretty cool mnemonics.
