I think Fine line is appreciated within fandom and is loved by us. Recently a harry page conducted a poll b/w FL HSH HS1 and Fl gathered 75% of votes. like fans knows it's more than WS(which is the SIO of harries). I think at this point harry knows how much we love fine line and he loves how much we love it. I expected him to ignore FL after her 1st birthday (like he did with Hs1) and was beyond shocked with the baby Yoda meme( I loved how new fans were confused about his quirky side coming to insta). This was despite the success hsh had. He is as attached to fine line as Taylor is to red(I think you made that comparison) and the biggest reason is fans. ERODA was designed for fans. He sang FL on this tour on 13th for fans. He knew we would freak out over meme so he did it. He has definitely seen how much we analysed everything and discussed theories regarding songs and how we freaked out over tiny little things and I KNOW he loved driving us craaaazyyy. So I think us loving it was more important to him than awards. So fine line is a direct link between him and us the way red was with us and Taylor. (As in it can get praised and loved after a time but the first and most important connection came from fans)
not to be slightly cuckoo bananas, but that post for fine line's anniversary meant so much to me and also felt like such a signifier of harry, do you know what i mean? harry's personality and humor, and harry understanding that link to us - even though he's not very active online anymore (understandably), he's still aware and tapped into the fans in a particular way (his story earlier in the summer when he got his lion ring back too). he'll still show his quirkiness and he still has such tremendous gratitude.
i didn't see that fan poll, but that's very illuminating to me, i might not have predicted it would be ahead by that much of a margin! i think the timing and everything with fine line contributed to its meaning for a lot of us as well. it captivated and held a special place.
eroda was SO much fun, especially being a brand new fan at the time, and i'd never experienced anything quite like that before!
at this point harry knows how much we love fine line and he loves how much we love it...I think us loving it was more important to him than awards. i love everything you said here, and i think so too.
COMPLETELY agree about that comparison between fine line and red, the parallels between those two albums and their meanings and their sonic diversity and their stories and their connections to us hits me hard every time. it's where that becomes so much more important than accolades, because as nice as that is, there's something irrevocable and TRUE in the love we have for the music and the way we share it with each other, and with them as the artists. we hold it so close and give it new life, and we'll never forget what that means to us, and they recognize that and cherish it right back.

the thing about the ember island play is that though it is certainly inaccurate, it is distorted - not false.
the whole point of the play is that the gaang do recognize aspects of themselves - their mistakes and desires and choices - in it! aang is cheerful and traditionally non-masculine, katara is intrinsically hopeful, toph is strong and doesn't conform to social norms of femininity, sokka is comedic, and zuko was obsessed with regaining his honour.
the reason it affects them at all is because it does hold a kernel of truth - because, though exaggerated, it draws upon traits, actions and relationships that genuinely exist. and so having katara call aang her brother and implying real romantic feelings between zuko and katara in this episode where every supposed exaggeration is underscored by reality only lends credence to those implications instead of dismissing them.
after all, if the play was meant to spoof zutara... it can only be because there was indeed something real to spoof in the first place.

We alredy know what's Chilchuck's worst nightmare. What if I told you that it was canon?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His daughters have alredy been eaten. His wife was eaten too. His family are all dead. His worst nightmare has come truth. And he for sure feels like it's partially his fault, because it's the Winged Lion doing, yes, but who helped Laios get here? Chilchuck. And who's daughters and wife are now dead because of it? Chilchuck's. The suggestion of recreating them tells us that they've alredy been eaten. The way he says it makes it feel like it's too late. They're dead. Because of him. Of his actions. Of his job. The irony of it all is actually quite cruel. He makes a union so he can prevent bad things to happen to his race, to his family, and then, and he works at the union. And now, because of his job, he got them all killed.
He doesn't even know how his daughters are until way later, I don't even know if in the manga they send letters to him during the feast, because I know they don't go to said feast. So Chilchuck doesn't know if his girls are alright until, again, way later. We know they don't die because, well, there's this comic of them going to meet Laios, the new king. But if not for that, who could tell us they didn't die on the monster appearances? I can imagine that after the feast Chil went stright to check on them. Because he loves his daughters, and he cares for his wife. He sucks at communicating it, yes, but he does.
Tumblr media
He doesn't want to risk his family's safety. But he, unknowingly, unwillingly, indirectly, did. He got them eaten by those demons because he helped his friends achieve his goal. Because he cared about Falin and wanted her to be human again. Because he cared about Laios and didn'twanted to see him loose his sister. Because he cared about Marcille, Senshi and Itsuzumi. He cares so much about everyone and wants to help everyone (in his own way), that he doesn't think that the result would, inevitably so, be the worst outcome for him. The one in wich work and private life get mixed together. His job as a member of Laios's party ended dragging his family in, despite his best efforts. His job ended up, not only endangering the whole word with demons, but his family. His four precious girls. It ended up almost killing them (probably it killed them for some time because getting eaten by those demons works wierd).
Worst part? He didn't have the time to be mourn over what he 100% sure thought was the complete loss of his family. He was in a hurry to survive himself, so he pushed those sad feelings and tried his best to help who he had left. Later on he finds out that the demons spitted out people. And he seems shocked with some kind of surprised relief.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He looks how everyone that got eaten was alive. And he can't quite either believe it nor understand it. He is really confused. So they didn't die? Are my daughters ok? Is my wife ok? Did everybody survived? Are they alive? He dares to hope that they're all ok and pulls into a box his feelings again, saving it up for when he has the time to be overwhelmed about this all. He has a feast, trying not to worry, but worried sick. Then he goes home and checks on them.
Give this poor man a break and a beer...

"Grian wins any family gossip bc his watcher aunt tried to throw him off a cliff"
Important question, was this before he got his wings so it was straight up murder attempt, or after, so it was like mother birds teaching their babies how to fly?
Also, how much did She yell at Her chaotic sis after (I'm assuming shes the same one who told Grian that failed watchers go to hell lol)
After he has wings ! But he still doesn't know how to control those new limbs yet.
Tumblr media
And yes same Watcher, shes a bit too careless !
Tumblr media
I don't have a name for ~watcher Aunt, but she doesn't baby Grian like other Watchers do, but still sees him as a kid (and lazy by her standards)

I feel like fine line vault will have the most experimental songs. He was gravitating towards pop with adore you and WS while staying near his comfort zone that was rock. Sunflower was probably a turning point in deciding hsh sound.
sonical things aside I want to listen to his bitter songs about camille's nepo boyfriend and his art gallery lmao
there's a lot of fusion across sounds and genres that happens on fine line and i am in love with it forever. the initial high and glitter and infatuation and freedom and revelation of the first four tracks, the groovy guitar and the gospel choir, swooping down into the sweetbitter sting of cherry and its delicate acoustics and its tinged pink atmosphere (pathetic was his word, regretful is mine), and then the full scale piano soaring vocals drowning heartbreak ballad of falling (that plea: what am i now? i cannot), and then the cheeky/resentful self-deprecating ukulele match strike of to be so lonely, and then the more hs1 old-fashioned rock epic in she, and then sunflower comes in and goes, "hi, so we've been moping for a while, it's time to get psychedelic with it."
sunflower is the light switching back on (lights up and you know who you are, do you know who you are?), some recovery, some happy memories, still the yearning, but it's giving way to something else. the genius of "does he take you walkin' 'round his parents' gallery?" transforming into "i've got your face hung up high in the gallery." HELLO? nepo boyfriend can take you to SEE the art, but to harry...you ARE the art. he's still self-criticizing and reflecting, but in a less harsh way (not the wandering hands or arrogant son of a bitch, just trying hard not to act a fool). kiss in the kitchen like it's a dance floor! keep it sweet in your memory! we're finding our way through! the silly bizarre nonsense mushroom noises because his humor is sparkling back into view. and then! suddenly! bursting onto the scene in screaming bright color, guitars and dulcimer and whistling and sunshine, is canyon moon, and we're going home!!! an old lover's hippie music! you do not understand (actually you probably do), i love the storytelling that happens there SO much. i LOVE the way sunflower was a turning point in the writing and sits as a turning point on the album itself, where it's like, we've grieved, we've paced, we've been lost and questioned everything, we've felt it all, and now it's time to find the sun again. (take me back to the light...i've been thinking back to a time under the canyon moon. golden is answered in sunflower and canyon moon.) i'm going home and looking to treat people with kindness, in spite of everything. go home and take a deep breath and reflect on everything that's happened, and feel that hurt and that mysterious pull, and remember the love that was there, in six minutes and eighteen seconds of catharsis, and it's all just such a fine line. crisp trepidation (the vocal layering and harmonies there. then the horns at the end!), because the fear is crystalline, but we keep going anyway. that's what we always are, constantly walking along it. we'll be a fine line, over and over, in different ways. maybe that's okay. maybe we'll be alright.
perfect album i am so serious.
ALL that said, because it is such a perfect album and told in such a specific way and follows a story, anything extraneous or that didn't directly enrich it, or was TOO cutting or too sorrowful, he took out, which objectively i understand for the sake of the art, but subjectively and selfishly, i want to know what it was. I NEED. i'll take the even more experimental ones, the bitter and angry songs, or sad ones, or earlier adoring ones, please give them all to me immediately. the fact that this will probably never happen??? i can't think about it!
*jenny slate meme* i had to stop thinking about fine line because it made me too crazy! harry would just be like, "loving you's the antidote -> you've got my devotion, but man, i can hate you sometimes." or "i know that you're scared because i'm so open -> spreading you open is the only way of knowing you..." and i was like, "SCREAMS!!!"

Soooo, you've probably noticed Ive been replaying HZD recently so my mind's been stuck on the franchise for a while.
I finally took the time to actually try and experience Burning Shores for the first time, this time with an unbiased opinion.
Bcs, ngl, when it came out, I was very negative towards it for a couple of reasons. It already started out with me not being able to freaking play this DLC, even though I was so excited for it, cos while HFW was on PS4, the DLC wasnt. And Im wasnt going to buy a whole ass PS5 just for a DLC.
(I will get it once I buy a PS5 for MH Wilds though).
And then, ofc, the elephant in the room - Seyka, or rather Aloy's relationship with her.
I'll preface this with, though it should be obvious with my content, I do NOT have a problem with Aloy being in a gay relationship.
What rly irked me, and honestly still irks me, is that Aloy finally gets to experience new feelings IN A FUCKING DLC. AN EXTENSION A LOT OF THE PLAYERBASE WONT PLAY.
The second reason I didnt enjoy this decision was bcs it felt so rushed. I mean, we're talking about Aloy here! Miss "I dont have time for feelings bcs I gotta save the world"! Miss "I barely just learnt to let others in"!
From what Ive heard, the DLC is over the course of a few weeks/months, so it's not like they fell in love just like that, but Ive also heard that while playing you do not get a feel for that passage of time. I'll have to experience that for myself though.
Now that Ive had some distance from the franchise though, my feelings have changed a bit
Im not going to lie and say I now loooove this decision. No, I am still miffed such enourmous character developement for Aloy is stuck IN A DLC. Not to mention that it was such a bold move to try this with a new character, cos this relationship being perceived well hinges on the player liking Seykay and that fast. Imo she's a fine character but also nothing special.
Now, I do have to say, I am really happy that Aloy has finally come so far that she allows such intimate feelings to develop, or rather, that the devs let her be this way. I know a lot of us still perceive Aloy as this single minded protag, that wont let anyone in bcs "the mission is too important", so Im glad Guerilla shows us that Aloy has undergone quite the growth.
Im also pleasantly surprised that Guerilla has the guts to include romance for Aloy, bcs they were one leg in the "strong women need no (wo)men" pit, so it's great to see they dont let Aloy fall into that trope.
Now, for the FUN part.
I actually have a conspiracy theory, ie I am gaslighting myself on why such a big thing is stuck in a DLC.
I think Guerilla is testing the waters to see how players react. I am pretty sure they can gather the data on what dialogue options players used, so Im thinking this:
Guerilla is trying to gauge the player reaction on a) Aloy developing feelings, b) players thinking Aloy is ready/willing for a relationship, c) same sex relationships. They tried killing quite a few birds with one stone.
I have seen quite a few teasing, winky face posts and replies from Guerilla staff about romance options in the third installment, so my guess (delusion) is that the relationship is hidden in the DLC so Guerilla can plan on how much and obvious to include several romance options in the last title.
I know this is all just wishful thinking, but even if Seyka is a good character, I hope to fucking god that they dont just take that relationship decision away from us, esp with a character bound to a DLC.
Guerilla gave us such a wonderful cast of characters over the last two games, and if they want to give Aloy an "end game" in the third title, I hope they do let us choose with who. Or at least I hope they dont force a relationship we cant choose onto us.
Cos as much as Aloy is her own person, it is still US that make the decisions in game. Through our individual playstyles , we give Aloy our own interpretation. Now, we cant change her core values, but still, I hope to GAIA that Guerilla will give us enough wiggle room.
(Guerilla, Im begging you, Ive already waited 8 years, please dont let my ship sink)
