hello! im back with another post about “that was a test.”, my playlist for sunshine and blues by lovelytyche.

this time i wanted to randomly select 5 tracks in my playlist and give more context as to why i added them. once again, if you have any suggestions, please share!! im really passionate when it comes to making these sorts of playlists, and im always on the hunt for great music.

now without further ado, let’s get started.

Track 32: SUPERSTAR by Ocean Grove (J)

when i pick out tracks for Jinx, there’s a lot of things that i take into consideration. the vibe that i try to strike when it comes to Jinx’s music taste comes down to 2 questions i ask myself

- is it aggressive?

- is it fun?

with this track, it definitely has equal parts aggression and playfulness, and add in some nu-metal elements and it rounds out to be a really great song.

“Meant to be, flip phone fantasy / Got my sights on the one, I don’t wanna leave / She’s my stoned little pixie / Love butterfly, come lounge with the real thing”

“I didn’t know that you could move like that / Glasses on, got the hair tied back / And even if I knew I couldn’t tell you how / You know you do that thing to my brain”

the drums on this song are super punchy, the guitars cut through in a really fantastic way, and the ringtone sampling is such neat addition to the song. great track.

Track 37: What I Want by Gregor McMurray (J)

gregor mcmurray hales all the way from Sydney, Australia and puts out some really killer electronic songs, and this song is no exception. (cool bugs fact: this song came out 2 days before charli xcx put out her first single for BRAT, Von Dutch.)

jinx doesn’t give a shit. she takes what she wants, for better or for worse. and you gotta have big bombastic electronic song to go with that. it’s fun, it’s loud, and you know exactly what it is right after the first listen.

Track 53: One Way by Bakar (J)

while this song does not have that aggression, it makes up for it in fun. the way Bakar delivers the verses, the lyrics themselves, it all has such a playful tone that continues throughout the song.

“Hey, huh? What you talking 'bout? / Me? Lose? Watch your potty mouth / Seems dead, come and sort it out / Chasing cars 'cause I'm a lager lout / Think I gotta leave 'cause mummy wants me out the house / Say hello to dreams that come and fucking ticket out / Don't try and copy my sound / My city, this is my town”

“Despite the detentions and slight apprehensions / I'm on my way to you”

and it ends on a really sincere note. while Bakar can and will talk a big game, Bakar does want to build something meaningful with the person he’s speaking to.

Track 56: fetišh by spill tab (L)

this was the song i added immediately after “family tree” dropped. fetišh by spill tab comes off her “KLEPTO” EP, and a key word that i would use to describe that collection of songs is frustration. lux, during the early moments in that chapter, is frustrated. this song doesn’t really reflect any moments of lux’s story so far, but references what lux is really feeling at that moment.

“Convince yourself / Convince yourself of what you need to / Even if it's just not true”

the record scratching, the distorted drums, the quiet yet palpable rage that fuels this song. chefs kiss.

Track 83: Bang Bang Bang Bang by Sohodolls (L)

i like to think that this song reflects lux’s absolutely fucked family life.

“Daddy says I'm good for nothing / Mama says that it's from him / Manic sister thinks I'm cracking / Brother says it's in my genes”

absolutely brutal.

“Don't you want to? / Don't you want to hold the gun? / Don't you want to? / Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang”

id also like to think that this part is lux trying to break free from her complicated feelings towards her family, to seize her destiny and release herself from her family’s expectations.

Conclusion

glad i got to talk on some jinx songs, i really want to add some wild tracks in the future, just waiting on the right time. thanks for reading as always! doing forget to check out sunshine and blues, and listen to my playlist “that was a test.”
