Obviously next week could prove this all dead-wrong, but I don’t think the trial’s quite over. I don’t believe the end of that episode actually took place, because I’m pretty sure we’re still firmly in the “punish Agatha” phase. Rio’s suddenly gone. Alice seems to be dead by Agatha’s hand, and no one—including Teen, who has always been on her side—seems primed to believe she was out of control. The others have been sucked beneath the power of the surrogate son who not only just told Agatha to fuck off, but went full-Wanda to do it. It just all seems too tailored to cut up any of the character progress Agatha’s made on the Road thus far. Getting harassed by her ghost mother and hearing her son’s voice don’t feel like a complete tear-down. This does. It feels like more trial.

despite its notoriety online, my sister and I decided to start watching my hero academia because we were bored. we were not fucking prepared for the “best jeanist” reveal. that shit gobsmacked us. I literally started cry-laughing for ten minutes. like, I was completely hysterical. WHAT THE HELL IS A BEST JEANIST? the “best” implies that there are more jeanists out there. what makes him the best one? who are the other jeanists? and is there such a thing as a WORST jeanist?

I loved part four. The storytelling choice to have two of our main characters and several important supporting characters shot down off screen was fascinating and so well done. We watch them take off like always and assume they’ll be back because they’re the main characters and that’s what happens in conventional story telling. We’re trained to conventions that tell us they won’t “kill off” a main character where we can’t see it, but there they go.

Because for once, we the audience aren’t following the Pilot or the Navigator or any of the Heroes. We the audience are stuck on the ground with Ken Lemmons and the ground crew. With Bowman and Harding. With Egan. With Helen.

All they can do is prepare the planes and the mission and the boys as well as they can, and then they have to send them off and hope and pray and wait to see who comes home.

And even when they’re back, we have no idea who survived or what happened other than the scattered and incomplete reports of eyewitnesses collected at interrogation. No, they didn’t see any chutes. So everyone from that plane is assumed dead? Yes, they saw four chutes. So only four survivors? Exactly four survivors? Did they make it to the ground? Are they POWs? Are they freezing and starving hiding somewhere in France or Belgium or Germany? Are they with the Resistance?

I loved this choice. In past episodes even if the characters didn’t know what happened to a plane, the audience did. We saw Biddick go down even if Buck didn’t. We watched the 349th get picked off in the clouds even if the other planes couldn’t see it happen. But now, finally, we are in the same boat as everyone else and it really hammers in the terrible truth of Not Knowing.

Honestly, considering the show/writers never acknowledged Daphne’s marital rape of her husband, and they only had a slight acknowledgment of Edwina’s feelings on Kate x Anthony, like I don’t think there will be a satisfactory resolution to Pen’s betrayal of the Bridgertons (Marina/Colin and Eloise/Theo) or of Eloise’s “friendship” with Cressida (and anything else she might do as “revenge”).

I think they’ll blow over the latter “I said I’d rather die than be her friend and I still mean it” and hugs all around or some other scene like that (which I know is simple and that’s my point). And Pen will apologize and confess that cause she’s so in love with Colin and she wanted to be noticed and she’ll be forgiven without much else from Colin. And maybe a little more for Eloise, if that.

They forgive her for Whistledown in the books, Colin is worried more about her being revealed as Whistledown than her writing shit about him (tho nothing she writes is like Marina/Colin is not in the books. Daphne basically forgives her for anything she wrote about that but tbh she doesn’t seem to mind anyway). And, they like sorta acknowledge it as “wtf” thing, but it’s blown over quickly imo. “Oh well that’s nice dear” sorta reaction. And Eloise does have even more of a backbone than in the books but idk I just don’t see why and what people seem to want out of Bridgerton.

Eloise is going to somehow befriend and fall in love with Crane! You’re telling me the girl running around with Theo and “radicals” will suddenly fall for the guy boring the fuck out of Marina?

Like, I’m sorry but Bridgerton is pretty people hooking up with a regency background. They will not “do right” by most people’s standards of how the characters should act and how to apologize (Daphne and Simon make up after professing deep love in the rain! Anthony is shocked into confessing for real cause Kate fell of a horse! It’s for DRAMA, and then it’s resolved kinda easily?)

I’ve seen some more of nuanced takes against Pen, at least these people aren’t reducing her to a fat villain (cause when they did that I could not take them seriously 😒). And honestly a lot of it is fair, that’s good! The writers don’t care.

But now I keep seeing people hating Eloise to the point that they want a comeuppance that is not proportional to her “revenge”…and like… it won’t be as serious as y’all are making it to be. This “revenge”. Like please, the writers aren’t going to suddenly take this world seriously. See above and those are just 1 example for each season!

If they wanted to acknowledge all the hurt Pen put people through and make her work to become a better person, they could! I just don’t think they will because it’s 8 episodes per season and in this season they’re trying to find a way to get Colin and Pen together and Eloise and Pen as friends again by end of season. I don’t think they’ll extend a conflict into Ben’s season (I actually hope they don’t, I like Ben and Sophie’s story for the most part and while I love Anthony and Kate they shouldn’t be the focus either).

Idk what people expect I guess. if you’re watching it for Pen to be taken down a notch… might not be the season for you. If you’re hate watching I guess tag it with “anti” whatever and not the regular tags?

I’m sorry if you think she does not deserve an happy ending, I don’t necessarily disagree that she’s undeserving of some crow eating for what she’s done. However, I don’t think the writers care to make her go through that. And I don’t watch Bridgerton for brilliant character development that I think some of y’all want.

That being said I’m curious about how they’ll manage LW post Colin x Penelope marriage. In the books it basically disappears, and maybe they can use that to have a build up to Pen! However that means to me making their relationship last longer than as season and I do not want that for any of the couples.

Despite seeing everything else and playing every game except Azran Legacy, I have not yet seen Eternal Diva.

I will! Eventually. I have it ready to go, it’s just that I watch stuff with my mom, and she’s super busy so we usually only have time once a week, and then Queen Charlotte came out so we’re trying to get caught on that, and then my brother also wants to watch it so we have to find a time he’s available, and the stars just haven’t aligned yet.

However, I hear you on the Emmy voice front. Honestly, out of all of the myriad of voices Lani Minella has provided to the Layton universe, I think Emmy might be my favorite of hers. Also, as anyone who’s been following me a bit knows, I’m very sensitive to voices and I’ve never done well with change, so I’m already dreading hearing someone that’s not Lani!

That’s the only aspect I’m not excited for, though. Everything else I’ve heard sounds absolutely wonderful and I can’t wait to embark on that adventure as soon as we coordinate our schedules and finish getting caught up on Bridgerton.

oh my goddddddddd… my dream came true, they added the kei sha backstory omake to his death scene this episode ;_;…….

.. with the framing modified because it’s from his pov instead!!!!!! ;___; first portion of the flashback (which is positioned as a memory of ri boku’s in a little anime-original sequence at the very beginning of the episode, where he’s somehow…??? receiving real-time news about kei sha’s forces getting caught in kan ki’s trap. from his manor in kantan…) follows the omake identically, but as for the second part that’s placed directly after shin’s blow comes down in the anime… this is what that sequence looks like in the manga:

it’s ri boku as kei sha saw him & his proposal as kei sha heard it, instead ;__________; just absolutely as perfect as it gets, this is even more than what i could’ve hoped for for this scene thank you ;____; i went into the episode reasonably hopeful that we *would* get this like I’ve been talking about for months, just because s4 made time to include relevant omake content for both sei kyou and shi haku in the lead-up to their respective deaths, but this execution is so thoughtful and sweet for him, I don’t think I’ll ever recover ;_;

of course the other thing that makes this episode really sweet (as it needs to be to prepare your palate for next week’s campaign progress) is what a truly just victory this is for shin ;_; kei sha is a sincerely-met opponent who he can cross blades with on level footing and who’s aiming for his position amongst zhao’s three greats with a similar respect for the station and earnest desire for martial glory as shin is for the rank of great general, and this battle is a Proper one that you can actually relish winning as an earnest, straightforward martial victory, appropriate to the image you’re trying to live up to…

.. which is as good as it is because, of course, that’s not going to be the thing that wins this campaign at all. same goes for kyou kai, whose victory against ryuu tou and subsequent promise to him to protect the people of rigan (oh, and of course she returns his doll. ;_;…) takes it even a step further:

kyou kai has been engaging with the problem of waging warfare in this region at all significantly more directly than shin has, and significantly more directly has come to the conclusion that it’s a soldier’s duty to keep military activities like this as clean and honourable as possible, finally reaffirming her desire to protect the people as she comes to terms with her similarity to and sympathy for ryuu tou in his final moments here. and all of that is, if anything at all, even for the worse, shin’s clean victory and ryuu tou’s death just galvanize ki sui’s will to fight..

prolonging the campaign towards Kan Ki’s Next Step. it wasn’t about meeting kei sha or ki sui or anyone else in honest battle at all, lol. it’s literally time for Real Koku You Amethyst next week!!!!!!
