i ghosted and then sb’ed the lawyer guy on ig bc turns out he’s friends with that one psycho man i met a few months ago. i think the latter i only mentioned meeting but never gave tea on the fallout here. it was all fun and games until it wasn’t. he basically tried to be alpha with me and i was not having it LOL but each time i blocked him in one place he found another means to reach me but his options were limited to begin with so eventually he gave up and stopped bothering me. but like, man. digging up all of my socials just to tell me things like “you’re so cold to me whenever we’re not together physically. far from the eye, far from the heart — is this your game?” was the last straw. NO SIR I AM A HORRID TEXTER i don’t play mind games 😭 i just kept blocking him without even bothering to give a reply, it probably pissed him off sm LOL which wasn’t my intention, i just thought there was no point in wasting my time and energy on a man like that, i didn’t even want to clear out the misunderstanding like hello i have a life and ur not my priority 😭 his petty male ego was def hurt, what a dick

so when i found out they were friends my brain went ultra dramatic, i thought maybe the lawyer guy was a setup from the very start and that it was a carefully crafted method by the psycho guy to approach me again. naturally i got paranoid and that story is now over, nothing weird’s happened after that, thankfully

and— you rmr the hq guy? yeah, we’re forced to keep a professional relationship rn bc he often visits the office for work related purposes. today he came. twice. first for work, and then — to bring me sweet treats 😭 out of the blue, like way after his business was done 😭 we hadn’t talked after what happened last time so what’s this now 😭 why can’t men read the room 😭

the “my name is john silver, and i’ve got a long fucking memory” scene will always be one of my favorites because it’s one of the points where you really feel the inevitability of black sails. it has to end a certain way because you know from the very first episode that this is a prelude to treasure island, which is an extremely well known story. you already know how silver’s story has to end, because you know who he has to become. everyone knows the person he will become, his character in treasure island has had an enormous influence on pirates in pop culture (peg leg? check. parrot on his shoulder? check.). and while there are other moments that set him on the path to being the long john silver in treasure island (such as becoming the cook on the walrus and losing his leg), arguably the most important part is him getting the name long john silver.

before that, his future isn’t quite set in stone. sure, he’s the sea cook of the original title of the book, and sure, he has the missing leg, but he’s not long john silver yet. he doesn’t have the identity that he will be known and feared for. he doesn’t have to be long john silver. gaining the name and the persona that comes with it is such an integral part of sealing his fate, and before it comes you can almost believe that the story won’t end like that. that the john silver you see won’t become the long john silver that lives on in pop culture enough that there’s a fucking seafood restaurant chain named after him.

and, if you’re like me, you’ve spent almost 3 seasons wondering how it will happen— how “silver” becomes Long John Silver. the scene doesn’t even seem incredibly special at first, until silver says “my name is john silver, and i’ve got a long fucking memory” and then all you can do is sit there for a moment because that’s it. he’s put into motion what you know will eventually become the identity he’ll go down in history with. he hasn’t become long john silver yet, but from that moment on you know he will. it’s one more piece of the story clicking into place, and it’s a crucial step in bribing us to the inevitable ending. you can see the island looming on the horizon.

i'm so curious: what's your favorite thing you've written? something that makes you nod and go, "yeah, that's it right there. i did that." just the best combination of words you've ever churned out in your personal opinion. it makes you proud just Thinking about it. could be a sentence, a paragraph, etc.

very cute ask anon, thank you. im going to assume for your benefit that you mean specifically my icemav writing—obviously I write outside of top gun and am very proud of that stuff but it wouldn’t make sense out of context.

There’s a lot of more recent stuff that I’m extremely extremely proud of on a technical level, but I’m prouder of this paragraph below on a deeper more existential level.

This paragraph was one of the first parts of WWGATTAI i ever wrote—august 12, i think, well before I had fully realized the characters’ voices or their attitudes towards life/each other; I only had about 5k written of what is now a 300k+ project (at the time of writing this paragraph i wanted it to be 10k max) and had no real outline, didn’t know who or what I was dealing with, hadnt seen TGM in two months, had done no research (so it’s not at all politically/militarily accurate or anything, why the FUCK is ice going to fucking GUAM)—and STILL this wound up being my favorite paragraph in the entire fucking series. not to suck my own dick or anything. I’m STILL so proud of this paragraph, 9 months and 275k+ words later, even though i Absolutely Would Not write it this way now.
