They're doing this because the sheer callous greed of an insanely profitable business still bilking the poor for their very last few dollars is a bad look.
That behavior is the kind of thing that makes people want Medicare for All or any singlepayer, NONPROFIT, cost-controlling system.

I don't think military funding is the thing getting in the way of US singlepayer or universal healthcare or UBI or whatever, contrary to popular belief. Medicaid alone is nearly as big as the entire defense budget already, and social security alone is 160% of the defense budget, and that's without universal healthcare, which would probably cost a lot more. Together, all US health spending is nearly double the entire defense budget, (if not actually double when you consider veteran's healthcare, which comes out of a different funding pool)
Now could the military budget be reduced without losing the important things? Well, probably, but the thing is a lot of that goes into maintaining capacity in the event something comes up, which is pretty important for various reasons. (one of those reasons is "we don't want world war I to happen again", which is the reason for a lot of things relating to the military), a lot goes into DARPA which is pretty useful (cool shit comes out of there in addition to weapons), and at least some of that goes to maintaining GPS, so it's unclear what would actually be cut back. Also, even if we cut the military budget by half (causing all kinds of problems but let's assume we found something that could magically do that without breaking large sectors of the economy and making life notably worse for most people as a knock-on effect), that would only redistribute 400 billion dollars, which isn't anywhere near enough to fund a medical system that would have to be multiple times more robust than the current one.
The problem isn't the military budget, the problem is pretty clearly that US tax rates are really low relative to most places and that while the wealthy are undertaxed and have ways to evade taxes (and sometimes it's unclear how to tax certain things at all because most billionaires don't actually have a lot of money, they have a lot of stock and take out loans against that stock when they need liquid money, which interacts really weirdly with how taxes work and makes it very difficult to tax), and corporate taxes are really hard to set up (not to mention that many people who are wrong believe that the corporate tax rate is already too high and don't support raising it further) even most middle class and working class people are very undertaxed.

I’M BACK BISHES!! Took a brief hiatus in honor of Michael K Williams. I have returned to give you Antiva Saltine Americans THIS WORK!! The only way we get back to normal is if we make it impossible for the anti vaxxers to move around freely. I also want them to add any Rona Randy’s and Rona Rhonda’s to the no fly list if they remove their masks mid flight. I’m to clamp ALL THE WAY down! I haven’t dj’d or attended an event in over 19 months. I’ve watched all my gig worker and production folks + musicians and comedians SUFFER because you palm colored polar bears refuse to act like you have ANY home training! They were wearing masks when I was in tour in japan in 2003!!! They wore them out of politeness and to care for OTHERS if they happened to have a cold/flu or had a compromised immune system. Guess what, no one screamed my body my choice and had tantrums like a 2 year old! It’s called GOOD MANNERS and SOCIAL ETIQUETTE! This is why we can no longer have nice things, you bamas in the fly overs and outside the major cities are paint chip buffet bonkers like! I’m over this ish! I want to be able to dj INDOORS again, I’m NOT trying to dj outside in 90 degree weather and watch my laptop and bags of vinyl & 45’s melt. GTFOHWTBS! France just stopped admitting all unvaccinated Americans from entering the country and every other country is going to follow suit (if they haven’t already banned us) Get the shot, wear a mask, social distance, wash your damn hands AND HAVE SOME DAMN MANNERS! #airlines #mandate #nurse #nurselife #frontline #doctors #goodmanners #healthcare #manners #essentialworkers #frontlineworkers#frontlineheroes #heroes #vaxxed💉 #nurses #covid_19 #covidvacccine #covid #rona #pandemic #vaxpassport #vaccinationdone✔️ #vax #singlepayer #medicareforall #selfless #ᴠᴀᴄᴄɪɴᴇssᴀᴠᴇʟɪᴠᴇs #mask #respect #selflessness https://www.instagram.com/p/CTyxwQvr2qP/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Value of Unpaid Organizing
Maybe about 5 or 6 years into my organizing experience, I made a decision to never take a paid organizing job. For a lot of people (especially my parents), this decision is incomprehensible. Why wouldn't I want to get paid to do what I'm literally most passionate about? What's wrong with getting paid to do the things you're going to do anyways? The problem, in my experience, is that getting paid to organize sets up several contradictions which will ultimately derail your organizing, not help it.
First, it puts your life and work in an irresolvable contradiction. If organizing is a passion, something that reflects your values, if you want to change the world - then you should do as much of it as you can, take on as much responsibility as you can handle! And yet - the best way to make more money is to say: "fuck you, pay me." You want me to do more work? Fuck you, pay me. So you see this contradiction - should you do more for the revolution, or should you hold back and wait until you get more money?
Each individual can make a choice on where they draw the line in their own personal life (shoutout to my friends in universities, nonprofits, and elections!), but on a larger scale the contradiction can only end one way: you will never be paid money to do meaningful anti-capitalist work.
--
This contradiction is not only personal. It has consequences beyond yourself. Where does your paycheck come from, as a paid organizer? Does it fall from the sky? If you're a member-based organization, sustaining one organizer at $30k/year, you'll need 125 members paying $20 per month. That's not including costs for any events, travel, or purchases. How many organizers and staff can you sustain on this model? How does this limit the growth of the organization?
Even worse, we have to ask: what do we do with members who can't afford to pay $20/month? How will this cost affect the people you work with, who joins the organization, and how decisions get made? Will it limit your organization to only those who can pay dues, or push it towards a mass member /online subscription model with low member engagement, low volunteer hours?
---
So. Maybe we don't rely just on members. What about grants? For most left-leaning nonprofits, the money comes from large foundations. Foundations can give out huge sums of money that can sustain an organization for years. The problem, of course, is that the foundation now holds the actions of the organizers hostage. If you don't do what they want - if you don't create the world /they/ want to see - your money will simply evaporate.
If you can find an anti-capitalist organization that can afford to support multiple organizers at $30,000 for, say, 4 years, totaling $120k each, plus the cost of running an actual campaign on a large scale, I'd love to meet them. But my suspicion is that anyone who's stacking that kind of money isn't anti-capitalist to begin with.
In Vermont, the singlepayer healthcare campaign was hit hard by the withdrawal of thousands of dollars per year, because the organizers insisted on including abortion coverage in their vision of universal healthcare. And the radical feminists of color at the INCITE! network carefully detail how their radical work was dismantled by foundation grants in their 2004 book, "The Revolution Will Not Be Funded." --
Of course, there is no such thing as ethical compensation under capitalism - make your money where you need to. But when we introduce capitalist compensation into our political work, we also introduce capitalist limitations to what's possible. We must make that decision consciously and intentionally, to decide if it really matches our goals.
I made the decision to take compensation out of my work because it didn’t match my dreams. It limited the horizon of what I could do. For me, the joy of organizing is the joy of participating in my own liberation. Learning to love those that society taught me were worthless - others, and myself. The individual work of unlearning my harmful behaviors, my internalized racism and sexism, as well as learning to build solidarity across race and class divisions, gives me a feeling of joy and excitement and of truly being alive.
“I have never been here before: my breath comes differently, the sun is outshone by a star beside it.” This is a horizon which is joyful and fun and life-giving, a place nobody would pay me to find.

Look at the big picture. Yeah, Biden is dead wrong on support for Israel. He's also against singlepayer healthcare! I hate his position on that.
BUT, protest voting will allow people to win who will support Israel even more and kill Obamacare... just for starters.
So not only will you not get what you want. You will make things worse for the very people you claim to support.
High-minded ideals are fine, but politics is STRATEGY.
It was bad strategy for liberals who were disenchanted with Hillary Clinton to not vote or choose a low polling 3rd party candidate. So we got Trump.
Those wasted votes didn't "punish" the Democratic Party. They punished fellow Americans.
Even though hillary Clinton was/is the worst kind of neoliberal , the country would be in far better shape now if she'd been elected instead of Trump in 2016. Women would still have the right to an abortion and every single state.
Voting for a candidate who's polling at 3 or 4% is a waste of a vote.
Every vote not for a possible winner, is one less vote that evil Republicans need to win. And if they win this time they will, for certain, end democracy.
They have a written plan! (Link below) See Project 2025 by the Heritage Foundation. They have a website.
They are, right now, taking applications for MAGA lackeys to hire to flood government jobs (right after a wave of firings of competent honest people) in crucial regulatory agencies such the EPA, the FDA, the FCC (kiss net neutrality goodbye), and election boards in all states who will simply cheat from now on, etc. It's terrifying.
Vote Blue.
Progressives can not make a case for Trump. The media will try, but Trump fascism and betrayal of office are a non-starter.
Keep pushing Democrats to the Left.
The Right is pure poison.

Union pushing single payer in California is angering its allies
Earlier this month I wrote about the California Nurse’s Association (CNA) push for single payer in the state. When the bill, known as SB562, was shelved by Speaker Anthony Rendon because of a) excessive costs and b) no plan to pay for it, the union accused him of stabbing them in the back. Rendon received death threats and Democrats in the California Assembly united to demand single payer proponents stop acting like bullies. They didn’t single out the CNA but everyone knows that is who they meant. Yesterday, the Intercept reported that even other members of the coalition formed to support single payer in California are turning against CNA:
One labor group, the National Union of Healthcare Workers, is in active discussions with its executive board to withdraw from Healthy California’s steering committee, according to its president, Sal Rosselli. At least two additional steering committee members, the California Federation of Teachers and Unite Here, may also be on the outs, according to sources familiar with their planning. And others are stepping outside the coalition to engage with one another and devise how to move forward separately…
Elizabeth Sholes is a senior official with California Church IMPACT, the 1.5 million-member policy arm of the California Council of Churches, which is currently part of the coalition, and has been advocating single payer for decades. “CNA could do the work needed to craft a decent bill with a good proposal for funding but have chosen the path of faux outrage and destruction instead. We were betrayed by CNA and people desperate for health care were abandoned,” said Sholes, who is known around the Capitol as “the Church Lady.”
The single-payer movement, said Sholes, is merely being used as a weapon in intraparty politics, calling the CNA strategy “a political hit against Dems whom the CNA wishes to replace with Bernie Sanders supporters.”
There’s a lot more in the piece but basically, a lot of people, even people who really want to see single payer happen, are sick of the CNA leadership treating moderate Democrats like, well, like they are Republicans. Jim Araby, a union member and part of the coalition created to pass the bill, tells the Intercept, “They’ve taken the very important newfound energy in politics, anxiety and fear and hate around Trump, and tried to position it against the wrong villain.”
Monday, Politico reported the conflict between the Nurses’ Union is one major piece of an ongoing battle within the Democratic Party in the state, one that mirrors the division between Sanders supporters and Clinton supporters in last year’s election:
The California Nurses Association and other single-payer advocates descended on the Capitol, waving signs with Rendon’s name printed on a knife buried in the back of the California bear. Sanders himself admonished Rendon, and the nurses union said it planned to air radio ads targeting the Democratic speaker.
“Corporate Dems: Don’t underestimate grassroots taking action on #SinglePayer,” RoseAnn DeMoro, head of the nurses union, said on Twitter.
The episode left a deflating mark on the progressive movement’s ranks across the country.
“It’s more than a disappointment, watching how it plays out there in California,” said Donna Smith, executive director of Progressive Democrats of America.
As I pointed out before, if single payer can’t pass in California where Democrats have complete control, it probably can’t pass anywhere. Even worse for Dems, if the only result of trying to pass it is a divided party, it’s a sign that there could be a serious downside to even trying.

It's almost funny to see a Trump "fact check" since, literally.....
all he does is lie.
But Trump is not exactly hurting Harris by pointing out that she truly wants Medicare for All.
Singlepayer healthcare is an issue most Americans agree upon because our current system is unsustainably expensive and unethically for profit.
So thanks, Donny! When you're not lying, keep pointing out how Harris is the ONLY candidate ACTUALLY concerned about American families and their economic problems.
You can just keep on PRETENDING you care. But, since your 2017 tax cut for the rich, which cruelly RAISED taxes on lower income families, we know it's all LIES!
Trump screwed the working class he claims to support. Trump doesn't give a damn about the working class. If he did, he'd be a Democrat.
#trump lies about harris#harris supports medicare for all#America needs singlepayer healthcare#vote harris#harris for the working class

I want California to do this so badly. "Boom! Economist Robert Pollin sets the numbers straight in this morning's LA Times. People before profit—marching ahead! "Enacting a single-payer system would yield considerable savings overall by lowering administrative costs, controlling the prices of pharmaceuticals and fees for physicians and hospitals, reducing unnecessary treatments and expanding preventive care. We found that Healthy California could ultimately result in savings of about 18%, bringing healthcare spending to about $331 billion, or 8% less than the current $370 billion." #Singlepayer #SB562"

Go get vaxxed instead of helping Rona put you Vanilla Vultures in the grave or if you happen to make it, into $250k in medical debt. We’ve seen your front yards, all you Y’all Queda’s don’t have a spare 250k to dig yourselves out of medical debt. Pretty soon the hospitals are gonna start denying care to the non vaxxed (because their medical staff is gonna walk out) The staff at these hospitals + clinics are OVER you Q Cucks Klan Manic Maga Morons are BURNED OUT!! Just sayin… Notice all the people STILL dying /landing in hospitals are the ones who have been soaking in low quality information. For those who have been masking, distancing, bathing… we’re gonna have to keep doing it until these Q Cucks Klan Manic Maga Spreadnecks realize science rules everything around them. It sucks, but keep doing it and stay safe. This ain’t over. We need to deny travel from those infected states. All those Trump state crumbs bolted to LA as soon as we opened up to vacation without a mask and the airlines did nothing to stamp down these Spreadnecks by requiring a vax card and test (within the last 2 days) to board a plane/train/bus Plus we need to require a 3 day self quarantine and Rona test BEFORE AND AFTER TRAVEL! We’re gonna be stuck in this endless cycle until we just go full ‘28 weeks later’ And deal with these walking zombies. ENOUGH with the selfish behavior, be a solid citizen and do your damn part.
