This is yet another self indulgent post but hopefully other mex/latina ellie fans enjoy this too ♡ 2.) I will be continuing to post my writing every now and then, however, I will continue to be posting things regarding Palestine and will be linking resources on whatever non-palestine post I make in order to continue to spread awareness.

' ' Que simplemente puedo decir yo,
Que eres lo mas bonito, que he visto en toda mi vida , ,
˖♬୭ she's a shameless duolingo user. Like, she's very serious about doing the lessons, scoffing whenever you laugh at her while shes doing her lessons on the couch next to you, volume all the way up as she mumbles the phrases under her breath, repeating them even when shes not doing the lessons.
"what? I wanna impress la suegra next time we go visit."
˖♬୭ speaking of which, she made sure that she left a good impression with your parents the moment she met them, or atleast tried. she was so nervous to meet them, especially with the whole language barrier thing, but she was quick to call your parents her suegros, taking them by surprise at first but they quickly grew to like her.
ellie and your mom fr
˖♬୭ she adores your mom, always offering to help out in the kitchen even if she has no idea what to do. she has a low spice tolerance, but you best believe she's trying the mole when your mom asks her to taste it.
"esta.. muy bueno..!" she'd say, sniffling as she leans onto your side and offers your mom a smile. you'd tease her about it later, and she'd reply with a 'it wasn't that spicy."
˖♬୭ she likes the Carne asadas your family has now and then, finding the music, food, and just the amount of family being there comforting. she didn't have much of a sense of community other than joel growing up so it was something she welcomed once the two of you became serious and she spent more time with your family.
˖♬୭ You'll either find her running around playing with the kids or joining the men playing pirinola or with the tias in loteria. If she happens to win, she'll run up to you, a cheeky grin on her face as she wraps an arm around your shoulders.
"Told you I'd win. Got ten dollars to treat ya' with, what you want tomorrow?"
˖♬୭ she found it an honor the first time she got to be in charge of the piñata. though she made it easy on the little kids so that they could hit it, she didn't hesitate to pull the piñata out of reach for the big kids when it was their turn.
˖♬୭ The first time you brought ellie to a quienceañera she was stunned, in a good way of course. Again, she was in awe of how everyone played a part in making it happen, and would definitely ask you all about yours as she wished she had met you sooner so that she could have been a part of it.
Ellie didn't know how to dance, not being able to do much more than sway to the rhythm, so when she saw the way you looked at the dance floor, she tried her best to push you to go even if it was without her. she really didn't want to embarrass herself in front of your family, and she didn't want to hold you back, but you were too stubborn to leave her.
"C'mon, el's, it'll be funnn. I'll guide you the whole time, okay?" you'd argue, tugging at her hand with a reassuring look. And how could she say no when you looked at her like that? With a small nod, she gets up, her hand in yours as you lead her towards the dance floor.
Huapango played in the background, as she watched your eyes illuminate, your arms wrapping around her shoulders as you smiled up at her.
"It's just little steps like this, okay? Yeah.. like that.. see? You're a natural!"
You lead her through the dance, not opting for a spin yet as you swayed your hips to rhythm. To say Ellie was an awe would be an understatement. You looked so comfortable like this, radiant, nothing compared to her shakey awkward steps as she tried to keep up with you.
"One day I'm gonna spin you like that couple over there.. You gotta keep teaching me though, alright?" She'd respond, eyes locked with yours as her hands gently squeezed your sides. You smile at this, nodding as you place a kiss against her cheek before reaching for the cowboy hat and placing it on her head with a chuckle.
"alright."

Some final thoughts…
Well, we made it to the top. And on the day that we were making it to the top, there was a snowstorm the night before and I fell on and thru some ice. I landed on my ribs and broke one of them. I ended up completing the final day up with a broken rib, and then did another ~25 miles down the trail with a broken rib. We also ended up walking about 15 miles around Kathmandu. It honestly took the wind out of my sails. It sucked. It hurt. It still hurts. And as of yesterday (11 April), I went to the doctor and the only thing I can do is be lazy for the next 6 weeks for it to heal. It feels really weird and uncomfortable to have spent 2 weeks putting so many miles under my feet, to come home and sit on the couch so my rib can heal.
The going down part of the trek is kind of a… lie. Even going down you’re still going up. In and out of valleys. We still added about 3k feet of elevation gain in the 25 miles we did going down. Not as intense as adding 3k feet of elevation gain in 6 miles going up, but was still intense. We woke up the morning after base camp feeling like absolute garbage. The elevation really takes a toll on you and that’s one of the worst days that I’ve ever felt, and the rib didn’t help. Even our guide felt bad that day. So getting down in elevation was great. With every 1k foot drop, breathing got a little easier.
We trekked down for 2 days. We were meant to trek down for 3 days, but, due to a change in our flight back to Kathmandu, we had a change of plans. We were told that our flight from Lukla (beginning and ending of the trek) to Kathmandu was canceled and we’d instead have to take a flight from Lukla to some city 5 hours away from Kathmandu and then take a bus. Or, we could take a helicopter for $350. We chose the helicopter. Turns out, the price of the helicopter from where we were in Namche Bazzaar to Kathmandu was the same price as the helicopter from Lukla to Kathmandu. We chose to skip the final day and 10 miles of trekking and take the helicopter from Namche.
We got back to our hotel in Kathmandu Wednesday morning around 11 and we didn’t leave the bed all day, with the exception of getting some lunch and dinner, which we did at the hotel. Thursday and Friday we explored the chaos of Kathmandu and on Thursday night we joined our guide Kiran and the owner of the company that we used for some Mexican food. Kiran told us that he’d never had Mexican food so we had to change that. We found a spot owned by a Mexican expat and they had outstanding food.
And with that, our time in Kathmandu was done. We had a 0230am Saturday flight to Doha and then a 730am flight back to Atlanta, then a drive back to Nashville. Finally, around 10pm Saturday night, after traveling for about 36 hours and being awake nonstop for more than 50 hours (I couldn’t sleep on the plane with the sore rib) we made it home.
I’m still jetlagged.
All and all, it was an incredible trip. Painful at times, rough overall, but the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Would I do it again…. Yes, but this time I’d take the helicopter from base camp and skip any of the trekking down. And hopefully, next time, I don’t break anything.
I’m already looking forward to the next adventure in October with I do some of the 14k’rs out in California and climb the highest mountain in the continental US.
But for now, doctors orders, rest.

It's hard to be a teacher but I honestly love it so bad. I'm thinking about how I can be a Portuguese teacher and it doesn't seem as hard as I thought. I can get as much money as my therapist gets so that's crazy to me. I didn't get a prestigious degree, I didn't even get A degree, you know?
But that's the magic of teaching languages! A degree is worthless if you can't speak. I guess that would also be the case with design, which was my first career choice.
I'm honestly considering doing a bunch of shit now and only get my shit together careerwise when I'm ready to have kids, and when I have some properties (which is what imma do to get my shit together and help homeless people while doing it).
My ideas are risky but I'm so ready.
I'm thinking of buying an apartment right away. With what money, you say? Mine (and maybe my girlfriend's). I'll buy an apartment with the money that would be my rent - thank god I don't have student loans or else they wouldn't let me do that.
After paying for it (which I'm planning to do very soon), I'll wait a year or so and buy a better apartment while renting the previous one. And from the first rent, I'll already help homeless people.
I will start buying properties and letting the tenants pay for them. After a couple of years, we will have a couple of properties and hopefully some money to help more homeless people.
So, how am I gonna help homeless people?
I had this idea a couple of weeks ago when I was leaving Spanish class and I found a homeless woman whom my mom had helped before with meds.
I went to the market and bought her a month's worth of food, and after, she invited me to see her house which was a bunch of barracks close together behind the open market in my neighborhood.
I noticed that the men taking care of the place were all abusers and the homeless woman I was helping was one of the victims. The thing is, if she had a small amount of money given to her every single month, her life would change for sure.
And I remembered this study after I helped her.
The study said that the best way to help homeless people is to give them money straight up. And it doesn't have to be a lot of money. Although, of course, if they get an actual good salary it would be much better.
The majority of the middle class worries about homeless people who are addicted to alcohol or drugs. I mean, they don't actually worry, they despise them and middle-class people consider themselves to be too morally superior to help someone "get addicted".
But studies show that that's not what happens. Having enough money to get by every month makes people feel more secure and cared for. And if the money is constant, they will start planning on how to use it more effectively, and how to help the people they care for.
I'm planning on giving that small salary to one homeless person, preferably a woman with children (since the money would be probably used to benefit these children), and keep raising the money according to my tenants' payments. When I get to six thousand Mexican pesos, I won't raise it. I'll find another homeless person to give the initial salary to.
That way I can transfer money from middle-class people to homeless people and be a sort of Robin Hood, that's my plan.
But in order to buy the first apartment, I'll need to start giving Portuguese classes as soon as possible. I will hire a Portuguese teacher today so I can learn how to teach Portuguese from her. She has a degree and an MBA in teaching Portuguese as a second language and I'm interested in what materials/methodology she uses to teach her students. I'm also planning on making her my substitute teacher for when I'm sick/traveling/busy. To do that I have to be very friendly and keep her contact.
Also, I have to progress with my Spanish faster than I am. But that's OK. After that, I need to learn French. And maybe Mandarin. But that's later on.

Midge/Lenny—“this is a one time thing.”
"I know it is," Joel mutters softly as he follows Midge into Lenny's apartment.
"And it's no that I don't want to babysit," Midge tells him, carrying Xiulan, all of two, into one of the guest bedrooms where Joel starts setting up the portable crib. "You know that Lenny and I don't mind. But it's so late, and so last minute."
"I know," Joel repeats, annoyed. "I'm sorry, okay? I didn't have anywhere else to take her, and there's an emergency at the club, and Mei's on call."
Midge nods. "You're just lucky I didn't have a late show tonight and made it home early."
"Where's Lenny?"
"Late meeting with his lawyers," Midge explains, bouncing Xiulan gently. "He should be home soon."
"Sure about that?"
"Yes," Midge says quickly. "He called an hour ago and said they'd be wrapping up sooner rather than later."
Joel nods as he finishes putting the crib together. He takes Xiulan from her arms and settles her into the bed, pulling a blanket from the overnight bag he'd packed for the little girl. "Okay, good girl. Time for bed."
Midge leaves him to it as she hears the front door open and close, and meets Lenny in the hall. "Joel is tucking Xiulan in, and then he's heading to the club. Something about burst pipes."
Lenny nods, kissing her briefly. "S'fine." He eyes her suspiciously. "You okay?"
"Fine," Midge says quickly. "Just tired."
"Good show tonight?" Lenny asks.
She nods. "It was great."
"Knew it would be," he grins.
"How were the lawyers?" Midge asks.
Lenny sighs heavily. "Terrible, as always, but that's how I get the conviction overturned, so..."
She nods.
"You seem...unhappy," he notices. "What did Joel say?"
"He didn't say anything," she assures him. "I'm just tired, and I didn't expect to be babysitting tonight."
"Okay," Joel says, stepping out into the hallway and closing the door to the guestroom partway. "I really appreciate this guys. I know this isn't ideal, but-"
"What did you say to Midge?" Lenny asks abruptly, narrowing his eyes at the other man.
"What?" Joel asks, confused.
"Lenny-"
"Somebody better tell me," he says.
"I just asked where you were," Joel explains, still confused. "The lawyers sounded like an excuse so I asked if she was sure."
Lenny stares at Joel, dead-eyed and unimpressed. "Okay. You can leave now. We'll see you and Mei in the morning for Xiulan."
"I'm sorry, okay? It just sounded like bullshit."
Lenny rolls his eyes, unwilling to engage. "G'bye, Joel."
Midge sighs softly and leads Joel to the front door. "We'll see you in the morning."
"I'm sorry, okay?" he tells her. "I didn't mean-"
"Goodnight, Joel."
He nods, and steps out, and Midge closes the door behind him, slumping against it and crossing her arms.
"Sorry," Lenny says gently, leaning against the wall and gazing at her.
"You were really with your lawyers, right?" Midge asks softly.
"Yes. All night. I have heartburn from the shitty Mexican food that got ordered in for dinner. It was the most fun you could ever hope to have without having any fucking fun at all."
"Then you have nothing to be sorry for," she shrugs. "You were with the lawyers, and I had an early show, and why do I keep doing Joel favors when he makes me feel like this?"
"Because you like to help people too much," Lenny tells her, walking over to rub her arms gently. "Because you're a very sweet woman."
Midge sighs and closes her eyes. "It's late. We should get some sleep. Hopefully Xiulan will sleep through the night."
He nods and leans in, kissing her softly.
She wrinkles her nose against his lips. "Ugh. You really did eat terrible Mexican food tonight, didn't you?"
"The worst," Lenny confirms. "No woman would fuck me with this shit reeking from my pores."
Midge huffs out a laugh as she leads him towards the bedroom.

A few hours after my last post, we decide to get Mexican food delivered to celebrate the last day before starting keto back up tomorrow. My entire entree was missing from the order :(
Less than 10 minutes later I'm informed by Erp's daycare that they won't be opening tomorrow due to "inclement weather" (it barely snowed today and it'll be cold tomorrow, people just don't know how to drive in it). Tomorrow is my first day back at work. So I get to juggle both kids and making first impressions - cool, cool, cool.
About half an hour after that Aug starts to have her nightly colic sesh and she's literally screeching into my ear as I'm desperately trying to rock her to sleep. Kevin comes upstairs to help and I break down into huge sobs. I think I scared him. I'm usually so good at holding it together.
It's been a day, yo.
So what do I do? I watch an episode of Queer Eye and cry my eyes out some more. I then took a long, hot shower and am in bed. Now to hopefully get a good night sleep and try my best tomorrow.

Reactions to Superman and Lois S01E09
I am so READY! I spoiled myself with shirtless Heckles so I KNOW WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR 👀
Chrissy, yes, hi! I missed you. And right out of the gate she roasts the food she ordered 😂 LOVE HER
Clark is working with them, reporter-ing, YESSSS
Nooooo, Edge, leave Emily alone!!! 😭
Hello, househusband Clark, packing lunch for the boys aggdgagah 🤤
Clark and Jon teasing Jordan for liking Sarah and "supporting" her is both funny and... stop with the stereotype that guys can't like girls in a non-romantic way, pls
Lana and Kyle want the same thing, to make people's lives better, but they are approaching it differently. I like this Lana.
Kyle says "the audition the other day". So it's been a few days and Jon's cast is off??? 👀 Superpowers??? Why is this not mentioned?
So Tegan will become a "permanent fixture"? Jon doesn't need a love interest, give him a friend 😭
WHY do the bad guys have to be Mexican? WHY, is there more to it? I really hope it's not just another subtly racist plotline (the same way he needed to save an Asian (Chinese?) schoolbus and be the White Saviour) correction: i meant this as in i hope there being more big action scenes of him saving POC than white people is not because writers want to save face by including POC in roles of victims, but that it's genuinely to show him being intercontinental.
What is wrong with his breathing!?!?! Is it because of the shit Sam Lane had developed?? AND REGULAR BULLETS KNOCKED HIM OUT what. WHAT 😱
Tyler, you should NOT look this gorgeous pretending to be unconscious 🥺
He not only got up, he did it by levitating 😏💪
And awww the security guard asking him if he's okay 😅😬
Have we known that Edge is aware of John Irons? Or did he just admit it? 👀
"I was just trying to be nice" Ouch, poor Jon, no one wants to spend time with him.
Shirtless Tyler 😳😍 His suit is most definitely not padded, SHIT. Look at those shoulders 🤤 And his voice as he says "no, regular bullets" awww. Total confusion. 🥰
Jordan has freeze breath! Although him running out on Sarah like this was odd 😅 But look at him learning, and using the beeper when he has no idea what is going on with his superpowers!
How the hell can Clark just walk into a school in the middle of the day without anyone stopping?
Infected????
Lois, tell General Lane what the deal is, yussss! He put his own grandson in harm's way!
Jon is, yet again, about to smooth things over for Jordan.
Oh damn, Lana, I hope she'll be okay and Edge backs off 😨
And Clark and Jordan are off to the Fortress. Hopefully Jor-El will be able to help.
Lois finally gets to say her piece to her father and I love that for her! "You're not welcome here anymore" 🔥
Shit, Jordan is looking like shit. They will burn the Kryptonite out if him WTF OUCH. 😱 If Clark is still weak, WHY NOT BURN THE SHIT OUT OF HIM TOO, THOUGH?
Jon comforting the family once again...
Time to shine, Kyle! Support your girl.
Sam Lane slumping in that porch chair and being huffy for not receiving news is a WHOLE ASS MOOD. I NEED THAT AS A GIF!
Tumblr media
Jon could never be scared of his family... Okay. And he still trusts them. Not a hint of doubt. So him not getting much support but giving it all is just... overlooked? 🤔 It's all fine that he is there for everyone and no one is asking about him?
Kyle is following Emily?? FUCK
Finally Sam Lane found Kryptonians he can experiment on! And also save his family. He has his uses, I guess.
Jon took John Irons' weapons YESSS BOYYYY. Also. WHEN? Did he go back after Lois ripped him a new one? BOY IS BRAVE, goddamn. Also, he can say whatever he wants about trusting his family and not being like Sam Lane, but he fucking is, preparing for the worst. 🙃
Clark is crying, noooooo, feeling guilty for putting Jordan through this 😭 (hint, he didn't) ((Also. Could he or Lois say this to Jon?)) (((I am happy this scene happened, though, because we haven't really heard about how he feels about ANYTHING in a while so at least we go that)))
What the fuck KYLE?!?!?!?! FOR HOW LONG? 🤯
Everyone forgives so damn fast on this show 🤣 Lois and Sam rekindling, okay, sure...
I am so fine with Jon learning to use super weapons!
Okay, Kyle went behind Lana's back to Edge, I expected he would. That man is one massive ball of insecurity and burning need to prove himself. Of course he went to Edge to "be his best self" 😫 BUT HE TOLD LANA AND I AM SO HAPPY FOR THAT
Smallvile is special, not just Clark. Okay, I can roll with it, that people were exposed to X-Kryptonite and that's why they can become hosts.
Edge is Kryptonian ahdhahkakdhabkd I mean it makes sense. How else would he know about all this. But "brother"? 👀
I WANT TO KNOW MORE. I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH
Come talk to me about the show PLS!

Summary: Amelia and Auston fight for the first time.
AN: Hey guys I decided to release this today because I dont know when I’ll get another chance to this week. Hopefully it will be soon! hope you enjoy. (Also I started writng a 5 + 1 and I’m excited about it!
Word Count: 1,939
Warnings: Talks of abusive exboyfriend, also smoking weed(if people dont like that) (If you like that welcome to the club)
Master List
“It’s our first time fighting over something real,” I huffed as I passed the joint to Macy. She nodded her head while grabbing it from my hand.
“What were you even fighting about?” she questioned as she took a hit.
I had spent the night at Auston’s the night before and everything had been going great. We were making out on his bed when his arm slipped to my neck and he accidentally choked me a bit. I pulled back immediately and ended up falling off the bed feeling mortified I kept my back to him.
“Babe. Are you okay?” Auston asked immediately. I felt myself shaking as I laid on the ground. He reached down to help pull me up but I flinched away after being pulled into a memory of my ex purposely choking me.
“Amelia. I am so sorry I didn’t mean to do that,” he told me honestly as he pulled his hand away from me. I tried to force myself to relax but being unable to do so, I turned to face him.
“It’s okay just shook me up,” I said as I slowly pulled myself back on the bed. He held his arm up in the air before deciding against touching me and placing it on the bed next to me.
“Is it about your ex?” he questioned softly as he lowered his head to gaze into my eyes. I looked away towards the door.
“Let’s not talk about this right now,” I finally said.
“How come you never talk to me about what your ex did to you? Do you not trust me?” Auston asked hurt seeping into his voice.
“Of course I trust you,” I told him as I tried to reach for his hand, only for him to pull away.
“Then why don’t you tell me anything about your past relationship,” he questioned loudly. I flinched away before hopping out of bed and putting my clothes on.
“Auston I will tell you when I want to tell you. YOU will not force me to do anything,” I sternly said as I pointed my finger at his chest. I grabbed his sweatshirt off the floor and threw it on before making my way out of his room and then out of his apartment.
The second I walked into my apartment I had started screaming in frustration. I finally had something so great and amazing in my life and it was going to get messed up by my ex. I couldn't handle the control he had over my life sometimes. Every time I thought I would never think about it I was reminded of something that had happened.
“Nothing it was dumb,” I told her not wanting to share our business.
“I’ve just never seen him so upset with me,” I said truthfully.
“Well, you guys are the best couple I know so you’ll make up. And that makeup sex is going to be great,” she winked at me before laughing loudly. I laughed along as I reached for the joint.
“I am a great girlfriend. So what! I don’t like talking about my past relationship,” I announced loudly after I took another long hit.
“Not everyone likes to talk about the bad things that happened to them and I don’t understand why he has to push,” I continued as I took another hit. I slowly felt myself relax.
“I was abused. No matter how much I talk about it it’s never going to change,” I said into the now quiet room.
“Amelia,” she started to say before being cut off by knocking on the door. We both shared a quick look before she got up to answer the door. I heard her quietly whisper to whoever was at the door before I finally turned my attention to her.
Standing at the door with a bouquet of flowers was Auston. I felt my heart squeeze a little before I looked down at the joint in my hand. He was so sweet unlike my ex. I lifted it up and took another quick hit before standing up and handing it to Macy. She quickly took it from my hand before leaving the two of us alone in the living room.
“I’m sorry Amelia. I had no right to push and I’m sorry I made you uncomfortable, especially to the point where you felt like you had to leave,” he said gently as he slowly made his way to me. I kept eye contact as I blushed. Taking the flowers out of his hand I set them on the counter before grabbing his hand to pull him to the couch.
“I wasn’t expecting you to ask me about my ex today. When we were cuddled up on the bed I felt so safe and then you just mentioned something that brought me so much pain,” I finally spoke as we faced each other. He gave me a pained expression before it turned into a soft smile as he caressed my hand.
“He did so many horrible things to me. I should have been honest with you the second you started asking questions but I was just so not ready,” I truthfully said as I gripped his hand tightly.
“I never thought I would be the type of girl that would be in an abusive relationship but once I was I couldn’t escape. He was emotionally and physically abusive. He did things to me that I wouldn’t wish upon anyone. But then I met you and you’ve treated me better than anyone I’ve met and I want it to last,” I continued as I leaned up to kiss his cheek. He held me silently for a few minutes before breaking the silence.
“I care about you so much and I want you to be comfortable with me. It was never my intention to make you feel unsafe in the privacy of our home,” he said gently leaning down to press a kiss to my forehead.
“Aus,” I said softly. He looked over at me with a raised eyebrow.
“I trust you more than anyone,” I said confidently. He gave me a happy grin while resting his hand on my knee. After another moment of silence. I started giggling before it turned to loud laughter. He snorted next to me.
“Are you high?”
I laughed loudly into his shoulder before pulling back to give him a giant grin.
“I was mad and Macy offered me a hit,” I giggled wrapping my arms around his neck. He laughed lightly before pulling me into a kiss. He pulled back slowly.
“I’m jealous. Wish I could join you, baby,” he teased, biting my neck. I squealed as I pushed him away by his chest. We both laughed before I leaned in to hug him. I heard the door open and I turned my head to the noise and in walked Ryan who froze upon finding us on the couch.
“Hey guys, hope i'm not interrupting anything,” he said with a grin a moment later. I wave to him slowly before standing up.
“Nope nothing. How have you been?” I asked him as I reached for Austons hand. He grinned at me as he grabbed onto mine.
“Pretty good. Been busy with work mostly,” he said as he started making his way to Macy’s room. I nodded at him before turning back to Auston.
“Do you need to go back to take care of Felix?” I asked him as I played with his hand. He smiled down at me as he slowly nodded his head.
“Yeah sorry. I still have to feed him,” he said as he pulled further away. I wrapped my arms across my chest before nodding shortly.
“Uh would you wanna come?” he asked as he rubbed his elbow with his left hand. I smiled gently before grabbing his hand.
“Yeah. Do you know how loud Ryan and Macy are?” I exclaimed loudly. I heard a “fuck off” from her room before the two of us started laughing.
I grabbed a few of my things before following Auston down to his car. Once we were both buckled we made our way to his.
“Can we go somewhere that has Mexican food?” I asked as I turned the music down in the car. He laughed loudly before pulling over into a street parking spot. He grabbed his phone.
“What do you want?”
“Rice, beans, and salsa,” I happily said shaking his arm. He laughed loudly before looking up the places on his phone. Once we agreed on a place he called to place an order. Rice Beans Quart of Salsa Two tacos
Once we had the food we pulled up to Auston house. He opened the door and Felix was on us right away happily barking. I laughed reaching down to him. He was always so excited to see me and it made me so happy considering Auston told me he had a little bit of a shy streak going on.
“Hi baby,” I said to Felix as I walked into the living room with the food. Auston and I both sat on the couch next to each other before he turned on the TV.
“Do you mind if I play Xbox with the boys?” he asked as he held up his remote. I leaned forward to grab my rice and beans off the table.
“No. I have my food,” I said as I held it up to him. He laughed before pulling his headphones half on.
“Hey guys,” he said once he was in a game. I glanced at the screen to see him playing with Mitch, Freddie, and Willy. I turned back to my food to take a bite.
“Oh my god. Auston,” I said loudly. He focused on his game of NHL for a second before glancing over at me.
“Yeah babe?” he asked lightly.
“This rice is so good. Do you want to try it?” I asked as I crawled into his lap almost fully blocking his view of the TV. He tried to look around me before laughing loudly. I moved a forkful of rice to his mouth. He narrowed his eyes at the food before leaning forward to eat the food on the fork.
“Is Amelia there?” I heard Willy say through his headphones. I raised my eyebrow at Auston while eating another bite of rice.
“Yeah Willy baby it's me,” I called out loudly getting a laugh from all the boys in the headphones. Auston rolled his eyes with a smile on his face. Out of all the guys that Auston had introduced me to I had gotten along with Willy the most. We were constantly cracking the other up. It was a pretty surprising thing to see us get along so well. Auston didn’t seem to mind our friendship at all.
I heard the guys start talking in Austons ear as I ate my food. He looked at me with his passionate eyes. Sometimes when he looked at me it was hard to pinpoint exactly what he was thinking about. He had a very drivin mind and he always seemed to be planning something.
“I can’t see babe move,” he said shaking his leg to try to get me to move.
I placed my food on the couch before leaning into his chest and cuddling up into him. He quickly wrapped his arms around my body and continued to play.
“Mitchy you're just as much of a smip,” he loudly teased. I laughed lightly as I hugged him. Maybe I’ll just sleep here I thought as I drifted off to sleep.

your writing is so so great! could I please request a one shot where maybe Toni falls of a cliff/gets injured badly in order to protect Shelby and her friends and they are insanely worried (both for Toni and Shelby’s mental wellbeing) JUST LIKE IN YOUR LAST ONE SHOT, I actually think the girls are the best thing Toni could ever get and she deserves all of the comfort and love
it’s 2.3k of hurt/comfort fresh off the presses. i have not even read it. initially it was gonna be a lot angstier but i couldn’t make the stakes high enough in that so we’re sticking with this for now. i’ll post it on a03 as soon as i get positive feedback bc i crave validation and also i ahve not eaten lunch and am running on three hours of sleep and if you’re wondering if that’s your fault. well.
Toni woke up and groaned, her head pounded and she was cold all over, shivers wracking her body.
She gave a slow cough, and dust rattled around in her lungs.
She was alive, at least. That was something.
Fuck, Shelby.
“Shelby?” Her voice was so hoarse it barely pierced the gloom, but it was clear. Toni was alone.
The worst of her injuries seemed to be her leg, which was trapped under a rock she didn’t have the leverage to move. She didn’t have the space to move at all actually. There was no light in the alcove, or the space between rocks she was in, but hopefully it wasn’t airtight.
Her head was bleeding, and her back was bruised, and there were scrapes up and down her arms, but she could really barely feel her leg.
There was water, which was very very bad, but it was only ankle deep, and the soft trickle she heard did not indicate she only had a few hours left.
The thunderstorm had come on suddenly, tropical ones sometimes do. It wasn’t Toni’s first time caught up in one, usually they were in the trees and they had to race for a nearby cave or the beach just in case lightning decided to strike. But she and Shelby had been by the cliffs, looking for more caves or maybe a place to get ten minutes to themselves.
The rain had dropped down like a hammer, the wind was strong enough it carried them both off their feet. Toni remembered, vaguely, being slammed into something hard. She grabbed Shelby’s hand and kept them going against it, wind and hail pelting them hard enough to bruise. She hadn’t heard the distant rumbling, stupid, but had shoved Shelby into a cave and at the wrong second her grip slipped and the wind picked up, and she was flung away.
She crawled into some pace between rocks and the rumble had been a mud slide. Everything was kinda hazy after that.
At least the storm seemed to have stopped. She rubbed her eyes and winced at the pain in her head. Probably a concussion.
God what if Shelby was buried too? What if Shelby was dead?
That was a nasty storm, what if the other girls were hurt, even if they were on the beach?
What if Toni died here, alone and cold and bleeding and hurt?
“Toni!” Someone screamed.
She closed her eyes, allowing herself to sink into the relief. From how far away they were, and muffled by the rock slide, she couldn’t recognize it, but she’d give anything that it was Shelby.
“Toni!”
She tried to call back but her voice wouldn’t let out much more than a rasp and a series of coughs that shook her to her spine.
She tried slamming her fist against the rock ceiling but that made the water at the bottom start trickling faster.
“Toni!”
The voice sounded further away and she began to panic, what if that was her last shot?
“Toni!”
She settled for slow scratching at the mud trapping her in and the voice started getting closer again.
“I think I hear something over here!” Someone called. “Toni, is that you?”
“Yes,” she tried to rasp out, “Yes, I’m here!”
“I can’t hear anything,” someone said.
She kept scratching.
“There’s definitely something there,” someone said. “Maybe it’s an animal or something.”
“She has to be around here somewhere,” someone said. “TONI!”
The water around her ankles was filling up faster, had almost reached her navel. The more she scratched the higher she got, the rocks behind her head felt less stable.
“Toni if that’s you knock twice okay?” Someone said.
She knocked twice.
“Guys she’s down here!”
There are more voices, scratches and banging around on top of her head. It all feels incredibly dangerous, like they might get sucked down too, but she doesn’t have a way to warn them.
In the end Dot managed to get them to their senses, got them to stand back and used the hatchet to slowly carve a hole in. It was enough for her to peer through and Toni realized what she must’ve looked like. Bloody and pale and broken.
“Yalright Toni?” Dot asked.
Toni shook her head, and with the penlight she knew Dot could see it. At least the fresh air was nice, she suspected the ventilation wasn’t as great as she thought it initially was.
Dot pulled away to address everyone. “Okay guys, it’s filling with water which means we have to be super careful.” Dot reappeared, “Any major injuries?”
“Leg,” Toni tried to rasp out.
“What’s that?”
Toni pointed at her leg.
“Ah shit, is it trapped?” Dot asked.
Toni nodded.
Dot disappeared again and her voice was too quiet for Toni to make out.
“Toni?” It was Martha, which at least meant she was okay. “We’re gonna get you out of there you just have to stay calm.”
Where the fuck was Shelby?
The hole they dug got a little wider, she could hear Dot over-exerting herself, Fatin simply exerting herself, Leah going into hyper drive. Nora gave instructions from the sidelines and Martha kept talking to her.
Where was Shelby where was she.
When Dot’s hand finally managed to reach her hand Toni let out her first audible noise in hours and it was a scream of pain. Her leg felt like it was falling out of her socket and she collapsed back into the water with a splash, it now at chest height.
“Toni,” Martha’s voice returned, “We might have to amputate.”
“No,” Toni rasped, tears streaked down her dusty face. “Please no.”
She knew they couldn’t hear her but still. She found herself begging, begging like she never had before.
“Shelby wants to talk to you,” Martha said, she sounded unsure. “Is that okay?”
Toni nodded, as aggressively as she could. So Shelby was okay, it was her voice in the beginning.
“Toni,” there was Shelby’s voice, she almost closed her eyes at the sound of it, but she didn’t want to miss her eyes. “Toni I’m here.” She reached her hand out and Toni bent as far as she could, letting their fingers intertwine in a loose hold before she collapsed back down again. “We’re gonna get you out of this, okay?”
Toni wiped at her eyes. “Shelby.”
“I promise,” Shelby said, “you’re gonna be just fine.”
They managed to carve her out, Toni wasn’t quite sure how. She faded out after a few hours, when the water reached her chin. When she woke up she was back on the beach, in clean clothes in the shelter, her leg was elevated and wrong looking, and her head was in Martha’s lap.
“You’re awake,” Martha said, Toni’s hair was probably filled with a million different braids. “Let me get Dot, alright?”
Toni nodded and to her horror tears started streaming down her cheeks the moment Martha left. Maybe it was exhaustion, pain, but it felt like fear. That all consuming crippling terror.
“Hey,” it was Shelby’s voice, not Dot’s, that came through the shelter. She spotted the tears immediately and Toni closed her eyes, willing them to stop. A soft, calloused finger, wiped them away and Toni leant into the touch so desperate and cold and her arms wrapped around Shelby as Shelby lifted her just a little into her arms.
“You’re alright,” Shelby said. “I’ve got you.”
Toni was aware she was shivering and shaking, her entire body felt weaker than it ever had.
“I’ve got meds for you, alright?” Shelby said. She pulled away. “You need to eat somethin first, and drink somethin, you’re probably dehydrated.”
She helped Toni sit up against one of Fatin’s balled up sweaters and gave her some of the goat jerky Shelby had managed to smoke. Toni chewed slowly and felt exhausted afterwards, and didn’t argue when Shelby handed her a pill and some water. She fell asleep to Shelby’s hands caressing hers.
Things faded in and out. Shelby and Martha were both there as much as they could be but it was Rachel who took up the mantel more often than not. One hand meant taking care of Toni was about as productive as she could get.
“How does the leg feel?” Rachel asked, when Toni was more lucid than usual.
“I can’t feel it,” Toni said. “Probably not a great sign.”
“Well I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Dot said we got to wean you off of the painkillers because you might get addicted.”
Toni rubbed her eyes, the last thing she wanted to think about right now was her mother.
“I’m also probably blowing through the stash,” she said.
“Hopefully this is the last major injury we get,” Rachel said. Toni looked at her. “Fine. Be that way.”
They were silent for awhile, Rachel picking at some of her bandages and Toni focusing on the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore.
“I don’t think Shelby’s a homophobe,” Rachel said. Toni looked at her, “I know I know but—she was really freaked out when we found her. She’s definitely got a major guilt complex or something, but I don’t think she hates you. At least not anymore.”
“Okay,” Toni swallowed hard.
“I just mean—ugh,” Rachel went from picking at her bandage to picking at her clothes. “Listen I’m not saying you have to forgive her but just like. You didn’t see her once we found you. She was freaking out man, kept saying how god had taken you. Remind me never to go to Texas like she and Dot keep inviting me?”
“Can’t be all bad,” Toni said, ignoring everything else Rachel just said. “I hear the Mexican food is great.”
Rachel hummed.
“Hey,” Toni kept her voice soft when Shelby came in that night with dinner. “I wanna talk to you.”
“Eat first,” Shelby said. “I need to check your scrapes. How does your head feel?”
“Like I have a mild concussion,” Toni said.
Shelby re-bandaged the worst of the scrapes, and cleaned them again. A lot of them were so bad they were yellow with pus, and likely Toni would have wicked scars there.
“Nora said it was an off shore hurricane, one of those that dies before it reaches the mainland. It was probably almost dead which is why it only last a few hours.”
“Oh,” Toni said. “Does that mean were close to somewhere?”
“It could, but it might mean we’re closer to Japan,” Shelby said. “How’s the leg?”
“I can’t feel it,” Toni said. Shelby nodded.
“Dot wants you to only use the meds to sleep,” Shelby said.
“It’s a good idea, with like—my mom and everything,” Toni looked away and Shelby took her hand.
“You know I don’t think less of you for that, right?”
Toni nodded.
“Good.”
They ate in relative quiet, for dessert there were lychees which Shelby had evidently picked up for the two of them if her blushing was anything to go by.
“I wanna talk to you about something,” Toni said at last. Shelby nodded. “Rachel was talking to me about how they found you.”
Shelby frowned, “alright?”
“Did you—“ Toni furrowed her brow, “Shelby did you really think god had taken me away or something?”
Shelby looked away away, fidgeting with that damned cross necklace. “Toni you didn’t see it.”
“Shelby I’m pretty sure I’m the only other one who did.”
Shelby shook her head, “No, no Toni you didn’t see it—not the way I did. The storm came on so suddenly, and there was lightning and thunder everywhere, and your hand was in mine but I turned around I just barely saw you go flying, like you were actually being sucked up into the sky.”
“But I’m okay,” Toni said.
“No,” Shelby kept shaking her head, “It was my fault. If I had held on a little tighter, or if I hadn’t been there you wouldn’t have been there at all.”
“I would still be on this island—“
“None of this would’ve happened if I hadn’t been here,” Shelby said. “Don’t you see? I had feelings for you and you got food poisoning, we kissed and everyone nearly starved, Rachel got attacked by a shark after we had sex—Toni what more do you need?”
“Shelby,” Toni grabbed her hand and squeezed.
“I mean you got pulled away by Him when I was about to tell you I—“ Shelby cut herself off. “It’s a sign, is all. It’s a sign.”
“Shelby look at me.”
When Shelby does her eyes are red and wide and scared.
“Shelby do you really think God would kill me for this,” Toni traced a thumb over Shelby’s hand. “For loving you?”
Shelby swallowed hard. “I can’t rightly say.”
“Shelby,” Toni’s voice cracked, and she couldn’t even blame it on the dust. “You really think he’d do that? Kill some random ass teenage girl because she happened to love another teenage girl? I know I don’t know a lot about the Bible but I’m pretty sure Jesus was too busy turning water into wine to worry about if a couple of girls were kissing behind the church.”
Shelby kinda smiled at that and Toni ached to pull her into her arms, to run her fingers through her matted her and kiss her until the cows came home. Or the goats. But her body was too weak, and she had to settle for pressing a kiss to Shelby’s knuckles.
“I love you,” Toni said. “Now say it back.”
Shelby looked at the door to the tent, worrying her jaw, she looked back at Toni, “I love you too.”
She flinched and waited, but all they heard was the gentle crashing of distant waves and Shelby seemed to sag.
“I’m gonna be fine,” Toni said. “And we’re gonna be fine. And I love you.”
Shelby nodded, “I love you too.”

PREVIOUS CHAPTERS: 1
hello. this is gwen bailey. we met at the library?
Gwen had sent the text over an hour ago, no response had come yet. She was partly afraid he forgot about her. She was partly afraid he didn't want to talk to her.
She waited for however long before she decided to relieve some stress through baking. Her apartment was small, and it was made up of her bedroom, a small living area, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. The bathroom was blissfully outfitted with a bathtub, so she could shower or bathe however she wished.
But for now, she baked, content to make cupcakes to bring to the library tomorrow.  She often brought baked goods to work. Her co-workers adored her for it.
Except Lacey. But she never ate the sugary sweets. She was attempting to maintain a figure. Gwen had maintained her own figure for quite some time, well rounded and not all that skinny at all. She loved herself, her body. She felt comfortable in her skin. At least, she tried to feel comfortable. It didn't always work.
She was just about to put the cupcakes in the oven when her phone buzzed. She quickly bundled the cakes in the oven and hit the timer faster than she ever had before. She rushed to her phone, picking it up with too much excitement.
Yeah. Hey. Sorry. Had to help my mom with my nieces and nephews. I built them a jungle gym.
Gwen debated on texting back right away. She didn't want to seem desperate, right? She worried over it for a few minutes before she tossed the idea out of the window. Surely he wouldn't think she was just waiting by her phone for a response. Even though… she technically had been.
fun! was it easy? i would assume it wasn't too difficult.
No. It was easy. The directions made it simple. Plus I had my brother helping me set it up. He tried to convince me we could make it without directions. Thankfully I never listen to him anyway.
Gwen smiled and laughed at the last message. He was funny, but she already knew that. When she’d spoken to him at the library, he’d seemed so nice and gentlemanly. She wouldn’t get her hopes up. A man like that? Had to be taken.
smart man. i was super excited when lacey gave me your number!! i was feeling pretty dumb that i didn’t ask for it earlier.
Well, I figured you were at work. Thought I’d make the first move and let you make the second if you wanted to. Speaking of making moves, would you want to go get lunch sometime? Or coffee? I’m not quite sure how people make friends anymore. I’ve fallen out of practice.
sure! i, for one, love eating food. it helps me live.
She hopes Sy laughed at that. She sat her phone down and went to go check on her cupcakes, eager to hear back from him.
She wondered what had been so interesting about her. Perhaps he thought she was funny? Perhaps he thought she was pretty? Perhaps she was just nice, and he was looking for a friend. Either way.
Her cupcakes were coming along nicely, and she left them in the oven a touch longer to check on her phone. One new message from Sy.
You been to that Mexican restaurant that opened up recently? La Olla Roja? If you wanted, we could go there tomorrow around lunch time?
i'm working tomorrow at lunch. how about we make it dinner? 6:30?
Perfect. See you then.
Gwen wanted to scream with joy, but she settled for kicking her feet and laughing. What an awesome turn of events.
She stood and checked on her cupcakes, pulling them out to let them cool down. Gwen went to pick out the outfit she wanted to wear, opting for a cute but casual look. High waisted jeans with no rips, nice boots, and a cropped Grateful Dead t shirt. La Olla Roja, from what she knew, was a casual restaurant. Nothing exceedingly high end. This was a casual hang out. Not a date, right? Gwen threw in a nice leather jacket to add extra niceness to the look.
She was excited. For once, it felt like things were looking up for her.
The next day, work was not so great. Three patrons had yelled at her thus far, and Lacey was being annoying. She hadn't stopped talking since they'd started working, and Gwen was a breath away from socking her in the mouth. She tried to look forward to the date/not date later tonight. She was dressed up already. All she had to do was drive over. She'd given herself a half hour too. The library closed at 6, so she would have a whole half hour. In case traffic was bad. Hopefully it wasn't. Hopefully everything went right. Hopefully.
Work ended, and Gwen was exhausted. But her date kept her going. She was going to have fun, damn it!
She walked out of work and started towards her car, pulling her phone out to check it. She had plenty of time.
She goes to her car, an old beat up Chevy, and she starts it, feeling it rumbling beneath her. She pulls out and starts towards the restaurant. She remembers what Sy said: "being on time is being late." It makes her smile. His habits were already rubbing off on her.
She made it to the restaurant in no time at all, and she spent a few minutes reapplying her make up. When she felt ready, she finally made the trek inside.
"I'm waiting for someone. Real tall? Buzzed hair."
The server shook her head. "You want me to get you a table, and I’ll send him your way?”
Gwen just smiled and nodded. “Sounds great.” She led Gwen to a table near the front, letting her get a good view of the door. She waited until 6:30. Then, she started to worry. Once an hour had passed, she texted him.
hope you’re okay. i’m headed home.
She paid for what she had gotten, a drink and plenty for a tip. She waved to the server who had helped her, and she replied in kind with a sad smile. Then, Gwen walked out the door, and by the time she got into her car, she was crying.

y’all… this project needs our help.
the creators are a curvy white woman and a curvy black woman who want to create a line of plus size dolls in order to promote body positivity and acceptance among young girls.
update: the founders of this project are both members of the LGBTQ+ community and they’re hopeful that their kickstarter will gain traction during pride month. go check out their blog @curvygirlsdolls!
in case you didn’t know, according to this study done in 2015, at least 80% of 8 to 10 year old girls in the united states are either on a diet, or they have their daily food intake restricted. the reason that’s still relevant, despite the substantial gap of 4 years between the publishing of the study and this kickstarter, is that in the 1970s, the encouraged dieting age for girls was 14, thus showing a clear downwards trend in the age young girls are made and encouraged to diet.
this is extremely harmful for their self esteem, as well as their growing and changing bodies, and can lead to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia in addition to malnourishment and serious health concerns (e.g. vitamin deficiencies), and unfortunately, the extreme weight loss mentality cultivated by parents and/or guardians can last long into adulthood.
now that you know why we need representation for fat women, it’s time to talk about why this specific small business deserves support. the answer is simple enough: they are respectful to the fat characters they’ve created, and allow all of them to posess a sense of dignity.
clearly three dimensional characters, each of the dolls has their own personality and style:
aliah (1st) - the sweet owner of an animal sanctuary and a veterinarian for exotic animals; african american and dark skinned
quinn (2nd) - a strong vintage car mechanic; white(?) american
keiko (3rd) - became an incredibly smart animal robitics engineer because she’s allergic to animal fur; japanese american
alexandra (4th) - extremely tough, no-nonsense civil rights law student and activist; gay, mexican american, and proud of it!
if the project reaches its funding goal, these dolls could show up on the shelves of your local target and walmart.
sounds amazing, right? well, don’t get your hopes up too soon, because the project has met less than 8% of its goal with less than a month to completion.
Tumblr media
you read that right–’all or nothing’ means that if they don’t make at least $230,655 (USD) before July 7, 2019, the kickstarter will be abandoned.
personally, I’m hoping the creators plan to launch another kickstarter if this one fails, but hopefully it won’t come to that. maybe, if we spread this around enough, posting updates on the progress it makes, we might just be able to help them.
I’m not demanding you donate $200 because “you can’t call yourself a good feminist without including fat people in your activism,” I’m asking you to reblog this for your friends, followers, and family members who know what it’s like to be ashamed of their size.
barbie and her multitude of professions did wonders for encouraging girls to pursue careers in STEM fields, imagine what this could do for girls.
so tag your friends, tag your mutuals, tag anyone you can think of to help support and signal boost this beautiful idea! I’ll start:
@fatphobiabusters @bigfatscience @vixianna @heavyweightheart @fandomshatefatpeople @feminismandmedia @fandomsandfeminism @bodypositivesuggestions @ok2befat @fatsuggestion @sheisrecovering @goodpositivitylgbt @geekandmisandry

**
“She’s my best friend.”
“Your very nosy best friend.”
Dana threw Kyungsoo a glare, but coming from the soft-spoken mate, it didn’t really pack any heat behind it, especially when compared to Kyungsoo’s icy stare downs.
“When is she coming?” Junmyeon asked, his worried expression etching lines into his otherwise youthful face.
“In a couple days,” Dana replied. “She wouldn’t take no for an answer. She said she’s bored where she’s at and that she misses me. I miss her too, but….”
You were still confused as to what the big deal was. “Is her coming to see her friend a bad thing?”
“(y/n)…,” Soomi scolded. You shrugged innocently at her.
Dana sighed. “Kyungsoo’s right. Mina’s very nosy, especially if she even thinks she senses something’s off. She doesn’t know about werewolves or witches or anything supernatural. Keeping her unaware is going to be a challenge.”
“She can’t come to the farmhouse,” Junmyeon said as he let out an exasperated sigh.
Kyungsoo nodded. “Of course.”
“Quite the time to make a surprise visit, huh?” Jongdae snapped. He definitely wasn’t the only one thinking it given the nodding consensus around the room.
“The timing is weird,” Kris agreed, “but coincidences happen. Dana will keep her away from the farmhouse and the woods and we’ll go about as usual. It’s not like we haven’t been practicing how to be normal our whole lives.”
You couldn’t help but snort at that. Several wolves gave you confused looks. Maybe it was because you’d spent a majority of your life trying to pretend to be the witch equivalent of “normal” that you found amusement in what the alpha had said. You’d learned a while back that “normal” was just a setting on the washing machine.
“I guess you’ll have to stay at your apartment while she’s here,” Kyungsoo muttered disappointedly. Dana gave him a comforting pat on the shoulder, but it did little good. The wolf turned and went back to the food still cooking on the stove top. Apparently, that was the end of the conversation because everyone went back to their business from before Dana had shown up with her news.
You’d come to the conclusion that not much bothered these boys. Whether it was because of what they’d gone through in the past or because they didn’t deem too much to be a threat to them, they didn’t worry easily. Besides the alphas, that is. You had to admit, it was a bid admirable, but it could also be considered stupid. You didn’t think this Mina was anyone to worry about, however, looks could be deceiving. Very deceiving. And assumptions could be dangerous…
**
For the millionth time since you’d come to the farmhouse, you were sitting on the couch, going over all your notes on your visions that you’d taken down. You were desperate to figure out what it all meant, but looking at the half-sentences and vague descriptions made you feel like you were trying to put together a thousand piece puzzle without any sort of hint to what the final picture may be. It didn’t help that your mind wanted to focus on the vision with the wolf. To you, it was irrelevant. There was no immediate danger attached to the scene – accept maybe the wolf itself. However, you didn’t think it would hurt you, at least not on purpose. By now, you were pretty sure it was Sehun, the other supposedly white wolf, Luhan, easily ruled out. Part of you was even hoping that is was Sehun. But why?
You refused to fall into the same trap Soomi did. And yet, how many times did you find yourself replaying the garage in your mind? You wanted to hit the memory out of your head with your notebook, but it was no use. It was stuck there, refusing to budge. Being tortured like this was not what you had signed up for when you reluctantly agreed to come here. Stupid wolf. Stupider witch.
“Hey, witch girl!”
You peaked over the edge of your notebook to see who’d called out to you. Hae In – one of the more outspoken mates – stood behind the arm of the couch where your feet rested, hands on her hips and a smirk on her lips. Behind her was Harper. The ex-hunter was shifting nervously as her eyes darted around the room. She always seemed to be on edge no matter what the situation.
“We’re going to meet up with Dana and her friend,” Hae In informed you. Her usual boldness and straight-to-the-point attitude was still very much present. It didn’t matter that the two of you hadn’t interacted much, she treated you like everyone else around the house. But you liked that about her. It made you feel less ostracized in a way. “Soomi said we could take you with us. Let’s go.”
Harper threw her cousin a tired look, “Innie….”
Hae In wasn’t fazed at all. “What? If I was her, I’d want out of this house, too. I can still remember poor Jinyoung going crazy.”
Harper rolled her eyes, but didn’t argue further. And neither did you. Closing the notebook, you tossed it down on the coffee table and leapt to your feet. “I’m down.”
“Awesome!” Hae In threw Harper a triumphant look before spinning on the balls of her feet and waltzing out of the room. The latter simply shrugged at you and followed her out.
You were hot on their heels until you came to a screeching halt just before the steps on the porch. Baekhyun, it seemed, would be coming with you. So this was not to be a “girls only” thing. With the energy that was brewing in the air at the moment, you were half tempted to go back inside. Currently, Baekhyun had his fingers wrapped around the handle of the front passenger door. He wasn’t glaring at Harper, but you could tell there was an uneasiness behind his eyes. You weren’t aware of the entire situation that occurred between former enemy and the pack, but you figure that if she was going to betray everyone, it would have happened by now so there was no point in not trusting her.
With a short nod, Harper stepped up to the back car door behind the driver’s side and slid in. It seemed she was letting the wolf take the front seat. Hae In honked her horn, bringing your focus back to the present, and you ran to take the remaining seat in her little Honda. It was about an hour into town, a shorter trip than what you had to take back home. As each road sign passed and the buildings on the horizon grew larger, you became antsier, eager to get out and wander around civilization. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Harper slightly smile at you before turning her head to face out her own window.
Hae In parked near the center of town in the business district. Decorating the middle of the prosperous area was the red brick clock tower, like a beacon luring in shoppers with money to spend within its territory. But as intriguing as the timeless structure was, it was the figure leaning up against the base that caught your eye.
The unmistakable orange hair stood out even as dozens of patrons milling about the square, blocking most of him from view. His arms were crossed lazily over his chest with his eyes focused in on the cracking cement by his feet. Just to his left, Dana and Kyungsoo were having a conversation, the wolf looking a bit annoyed, but even from where you stood by the car you tell it wasn’t directed at Dana. When the group you were with approached the others, you found out the reason for his annoyance.
“Mina’s going to meet us at the restaurant,” Dana explained while you tried extremely hard to focus on her and not let your eyes wander over to Sehun. He hadn’t even acknowledged the group’s arrival. “She’s running a bit behind.”
“She overslept and thinks she needs to spend an hour getting ready,” Kyungsoo elaborated with a blank face.
“Let’s just go,” Sehun said in a bored tone as he pushed off the clock tower. It seemed he’d come out of whatever thoughts were keeping his attention previously. “I’m starving. She can just join us when she does.”
Dana looked like she wanted to argue, but Kyungsoo reached out and took her hand, squeezing her fingers reassuringly. That seemed to be the catalyst to give in. “Okay,” Dana agreed. “I’ll send her the name of the restaurant. She’ll find us.” Under her breath, she added, “Hopefully.”
The group made its way across the square towards a small Mexican restaurant squeezed in between a clothing boutique and an eyebrow salon. Keeping to yourself quietly near the back, you learned as you walked that Luhan wouldn’t be joining the group since he was out on perimeter duty at the moment.
“What’s perimeter duty?” you asked out of curiosity. You had a pretty good guess, but….
Sehun was the one who answered. “Kris and Junmyeon have everyone running the surrounding area in case we come across something that might be considered helpful.”
Both Baekhyun and Kyungsoo threw the youngest an odd look, but nothing more was said as the group entered the restaurant. Right away, the hostess should you to a table off to the side of the large room. You were thankful that you and Sehun sat on the same side with Hae In and Baekhyun in between. That way you were less tempted to look at him. That didn’t stop the occasion glance out of the corner of your eye, but you hope it was subtle enough to go unnoticed by the others.
As soon as the chips and salsa were placed on the table, you took that as the perfect distraction to occupy your attention. Baekhyun was keeping most of the table entertained with the random facial expressions and nonsensical sentences leaving his mouth. The waiter came around and took the drink orders, leaving to give everyone a minute longer to pick what sounded good from the menus that had barely been looked at. Another fifteen minutes went by and you were starting to wonder if Dana’s friend was going to show up at all.
“Hey, sorry I’m late!”
You looked up from the pieces of tortilla chip in your hands and froze.
Dana’s friend Mina was a tall girl with light blonde hair and milky skin to match. Just like the woman in your vision.
Jumping up from her seat, Dana gave her best friend a long hug, completely unaware of your reaction to the new arrivla’s appearance. In fact, no one else seemed bothered or to make the connection they took their seats.
“Hey,” Harper whispered, leaning towards you from her seat in front of you. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” you nodded a little too eagerly, leaning back in your seat. The waiter, noticing the newcomer, brought Mina a cup of water and took her order after she barely glanced at the menu.
“You get the same thing every time,” Dana teased.
Mina shrugged, flipping her blonde curls over her shoulder in the process. Her eyes wandered over everyone at the table before they landed on Sehun who sat across from her. Like lightning, her hand was out, reaching over the chips and salsa. “Hi, I’m Mina.”
Sehun shifted in his seat, uncrossing his arms long enough to shake her hand before assuming the position once again. “Sehun. It’s nice to meet you.”
“You’re one of Kyungsoo’s friends, right?” He nodded. “I’m surprised that Dana is comfortable around so many people,” Mina commented, barely glancing at who she was referring to before going back to the one person she was actually addressing. “Groups like this used to make her uncomfortable.”
“A lot’s changed in the last few years,” Dana defended. Making eye contact with Kyungsoo, she slipped her hand into his. The usually stoic wolf let his lips spread into a wide grin, the kind of look that he reserved only for his mate.
“And I’m so happy for you,” Mina said happily as she pulled her friend into another hug.
The conversation drifted into what Dana had been up to lately. She was careful to avoid anything that might accidentally roam into the area of the wolves that lived in the woods.
“So, Sehun, what do you do most days?” Mina asked out of nowhere. She placed her chin in her folded hands as her elbows rested on the table. A glance was exchanged between Baekhyun and Hae In, but if Mina noticed she wasn’t deterred.
In reply to her obviously flirtatious inquiry, Sehun shrugged. “Depends on the day. Sometimes I’m home, sometimes I’m at Kris’ shop, helping out there.”
A sparkle shine in her eyes. “So, no girlfriend to hang out with?”
You shoved your tongue in your cheek, biting down hard to avoid any sort of sarcastic comment flying out of your mouth. She was being shamefully obvious to the point that by now even the mated couples at the table – who weren’t particularly shy about PDA and innuendoes – were shifting uncomfortably in their seats. Sehun, however, was just as unconcerned as ever. “No. No girlfriend.”
Mina nodded with a Cheshire cat grin. “Interesting. When I asked Dana if she had anyone to introduce me to, she said all of her friends were taken.”
“You’re just visiting,” Dana murmured, a deep frown on her lips. “What’s the point?”
“Well, you know me, I’m always on the move.” She sent her friend a wink and a sly smile.
Your blood was boiling even though you had no reason to be irritated. Part of you kept waiting for Sehun to tell her he wasn’t interested, but he kept his mouth closed, letting the nerve-grating comments keep on coming.
Perhaps what was bothering you was the fact that she looked just the woman in your vision. No, you never saw her face when the premonition hit, but the hair and skin was almost a perfect match. Maybe that was why you were on edge. Yeah, that had to be it… right?
You stared at the glass of water in front of you, fighting with yourself, repeating that what happened in the garage meant nothing – as nothing even happened – and it didn’t give you any right or reason to be jealous. Closing your eyes, you started the deep breath exercises Mother Willow had taught you when you felt your emotions getting out of control.
“You know,” Mina said, “Dana can’t hang out with me all the time. So, would you be interes- ah!”
You jumped at the sound of the glass rattling against the table before it rolled away. Water splashed all over Mina’s pretty sky blue skirt, leaving a spot the size of your palm in the most unflattering of places. Crap. You hadn’t meant to do it. Your guilt must have been written all over your face. When you risked looking up from the fallen cup, your eyes met Sehun’s. He was staring at you with a furrowed brow, head tilted to the side. As quickly as you could, you shrank back in your seat to hide yourself from view. Harper was glancing at you as well, her eyes flickering back and forth from Mina to you. Right in this moment, you were wishing that invisibility was a power you possessed.
So maybe some damn self-control.
**
After getting home from the restaurant, you immediately rounded the house and bee lined for the woods. You’d let your emotions control your powers. Again. And in front of witnesses, no less. While everyone at the table had assumed it was a strange accident possibly caused by an unstable surface, you could tell that Harper’s mind was going in a different direction – you. Her eyes shifted to you throughout the rest of the meal, noticing that you were barely touching your food and not joining in on any of the conversation.
Despite being doused in water, Mina insisted on continuing her flirtatious pursuit of Sehun. Your nails dug into your upper arms with each new line, surely leaving behind half-moon indentions that were thankfully covered by the long sleeves of your shirt. All you wanted to escape from this internal embarrassment.
The forest created the perfect cover. As soon as you thought you were far enough in to be invisible from the house, you slowed down a leisurely walk. You knew you were going to have to tell Soomi about the incident eventually. From what you’d gathered about Baekhyun’s personality, this was not something that would remain among the group. He’d find it too funny that while Mina was hitting on Sehun her glass suddenly spilt all over her to keep it to himself. While she didn’t exactly know about your conflicting emotions regarding the wolf, she’d still be suspicious enough to confront you about it. You just needed some time alone before you faced that conversation. The last thing you wanted was for her to worry about you losing control.
After half an hour or so of walking, you came across a river that intertwined through the trees. It wasn’t very deep, but the water was clear to allow you to see the small, hand-sized fish that swam through the barely existent current. They were unbothered by your presence as you sat down near the edge. Tiny fins kept them stead as they searched the tiny pebbles for possible food.
With the sun shining down through the tree leaves, you could just barely make out your reflection on the surface of the water. Sometimes you didn’t recognize the person staring back at you. Sure, you knew the features – the nose, the eyes, the hair – but the person behind them had become lost. You toed the line between being the witch you were expected to be and wanting to use the powers that were given to you, see how far you could push them until they reached their limit. It was easily to blame the elders in this. To you, the smart decision would have been to teach you how to control your powers, not force you to suppress them. They wouldn’t magically go away through non-usage. But no one cared about your opinion. To them, you were just a young witch with horrible impulse control and lesser knowledge about these things.
The rustling of leaves pulled you from your thoughts of self-pity. Your eyes grew wide as Sehun sat down beside you on the ground, leaving at least two feet of space between you. Great. Was he cautious of you now? With a roll of your eyes, you turned back to the water. “What are you doing here?”
“Harper said you came out here,” he shrugged. It was lost on you why he would even care whether you were out here or in the house or anywhere in the vicinity. He couldn’t be upset at what had happened at the restaurant. If he was, well then, he could just suck it up.
You threw your hands up. “So, you found me. You can go about your business now.”
“You made the glass spill over, didn’t you?”
Well, wasn’t that just fantastic. He really had made the connection that it was you after all.
Picking up a smooth rock barely the length of your pinky, you flipped it over in your palm a few times as you mulled over his question. For as long as you could remember, keeping your powers a secret beyond the coven had been the number one rule in your life. Scratch that – rule number two. The first one was to not use them in the first place. Soomi had emphasized the importance of that rule before you came here. The pack was already wary of witches and you couldn’t entirely blame them. For the first time in your life, though, you were scared to admit to them, to your powers. In the past, you’d never shied away from admitting to their existence; that yes, the strange incident was all your doing. Hiding who you were had never been something you liked to do. But in this moment, you were afraid. How could you be so worried about what this wolf would think of you? In this moment, you were the most afraid of being considered the freak than you ever had been before.
You pulled in as much air into your lungs as possible before emptying them once again. You flipped the rock over in your palm one more time before tossing it into the river. The ripples blurred your face in the water before slowly disappearing. If only you could fade away like the waves. “Yeah,” you admitted. “That was me.”
Sehun nodded. Apparently, he hadn’t been expecting any other answer. “Can all witches do that?”
“No,” you said bluntly. What was the point of beating around the bush? “Not without a lengthy incantation and even then, some can’t.”
“But you can just… do it?”
“Yup.”
There was nothing but the sound of the river for a moment or two. What you would give right now to be able to read minds. The possibilities could be endless for whatever was going through his mind. Which part was he focusing on? Was it the fact that you could do things like tip over a glass of water? Or was he making an assumption as to why you did it?
“Which did you move?” he suddenly asked, making you jump.
You frowned, staring at him. “What do you mean?”
For the first time since he arrived, he turned to look at you. “The water or glass? Which one were you moving?”
“Oh.” You blinked, trying to figure out the best way to explain this. “It was the water. I’m not telekinetic, although that wouldn’t be a bad gig.”
“Being able to move water doesn’t sound too bad, either,” he said with a small, crooked smile. His reaction to your confession was so understated, as if this was something he’d come across before. It made you comfortable. Perhaps a little too comfortable.
“No, it’s not,” you agreed. “But when you add in the other stuff, it kind of freaks people out.”
Sehun leaned back on the palms of his hands, looking at you with eyes full of curiosity. “The other stuff?”
You picked at your cuticles nervously. It was a bad habit that you thought you’d broken a while back, but the compulsion was rearing its ugly head again. “It’s not just water that I can manipulate. It’s… kind of all the elements. Fire, water, air, earth. All that jazz. It’s kind of a rare thing, for witches. Like, it’s been a few centuries kind of rare.”
“That’s….” He struggled to find a word to put to the news you were telling him. Unable to do so, he went another route. “If you can do this, why has Soomi been teaching you about plant magic?”
This was a question you were subconsciously dreading. “The elders are… concerned about the fact that I can do these things since, according to history, it didn’t end very well last time. A lot of people died because of that witch. They think it’s best if I don’t use them too much. Plant magic sort of defaults to good. There’s never been a witch who trained in it that went dark. A few evil ones have used that kind of magic before, but that was never their specialty. The mothers think it’s safer.”
“But you don’t agree?”
You scoffed. “How could I? You saw what happened at the restaurant. There’s times I can’t control it and things like that occur. They think suppression is the answer, but-” You swallowed back the words that were about to leave your tongue. Never had you been tempted to release those thoughts to anyone – not Mother Willow or Soomi – so why did you almost let them go now? There was something about Sehun that got to you; something that caused holes to appear in your walls. Fearful that you might actually make him run away, you looked down at the eroding rocks that decorated the riverbed.
“But what?” he surged.
“It’s nothing.” The lie felt like acid on your tongue, but it was the kind of lie you were used to telling. Somehow, though, saying it to the orange haired wolf made you feel guiltier than normal. “I’d just prefer to be able to use them, that’s all.”
Everything about Sehun’s demeanor screamed that he didn’t believe you, but he didn’t verbalize his suspicions. He nodded as he sat up, pretending he was taking you at your word. His eyes danced around the surrounding area, careful not to land in your direction. You couldn’t help but think that you made him uncomfortable now, the element controlling witch residing not just in his home, but in his bedroom.
“You must think I’m a freak now, huh?” You hadn’t meant to ask that out loud, but his reaction was… well it was hurting you.
But when Sehun finally looked at you, he seemed confused as to why you could ask such a thing. His brow was scrunched, forming a harsh line above the bridge of his nose. His eyes shined a dark amber for only a second before fading back to their usual brown. Shaking his head, Sehun scoffed. “You’re not a freak. Different, sure, but not a freak.”
“You were acting like I make you uncomfortable,” you pointed out.
The way he sucked in his lips and ran a hand through his hair told you that you were right. “I- I don’t think you’re a freak,” he repeated.
That made you roll your eyes. “You can say that as many times as you’d like, but have you ever heard of the phrase that actions speak louder than words?”
Sehun growled at your argument, but you didn’t flinch at the aggressive sound. Your response was to simply raise an eyebrow and wait. Heavy air escaped through his lips as he looked away. Tension was visible in all his muscles, especially where his neck and hands were exposed. It was like you were watching an internal struggle before your eyes, having seen the signs before within yourself. There was no telling what was going on with him, what he was wrestling with. You weren’t sure if you wanted to know, in case it harmed your ego. Suddenly, he turned to face you, his eyes a brighter amber than before. And they stayed that way. Not once did they flicker or fade back to a normal, human color. The change made you lean back, the tiniest bit of fear lighting up inside you. But that small movement seemed to encourage him.
Your heart was pounded again, exactly like it did back in the garage. Sehun was coming closer. He leaned in as if the space between you didn’t even exist. Why was it that every time he came in close proximity you froze like a deer in the middle of the road? He certainly felt like a speeding car coming at you a hundred miles an hour and whatever damage was done when the two of you finally collided would resonate for the rest of your lives.
In time, however, he swerved away, squeezing his eyes shut as he replaced the space between you. The veins on his hands were visible from how hard he was clenching his fists. “You should go back to the house,” he suggested through gritted teeth. “Soomi’s worried about you.” When you continued to sit there and stare at him, he growled, “Go!”
You huffed. What the hell had you done? He was the one who kept invading your space, saying cryptic things, and flipping back and forth between ignoring you and seeking you out. “Whatever.” You jumped up to your feet and made your way back to the clearing, happy to be putting distance between the two of you.

You were new to the gang. They had saved you after O'driscolls had slaughtered your animals, burnt your crops, and set your farmhouse on fire. Your home and family were gone. They originally showed up to rob your home whilst you slept, hearing of your comfortable income, but it soon became a gang war and the Van Der Lindes were quick to take your side. You were saved and taken in. They offered you safety back at their camp, and you quickly accepted their offer, not having anywhere else to go.
They seemed to have some morals. Arthur had told you on your way back to camp how a while ago, the gang went to rob a carriage, only to find it had women and children inside, so they left them to it. They later heard that the O'driscolls robbed the same carriage later down their path, and slaughtered everyone.
You were thankful they were here, even if it was to originally rob you.
Clemens Point. It was a lovely camp, south from where you lived, and close to Rhodes, a somewhat local town for you.
You arrived during the dead of night in the company of Arthur, Lenny, and Hosea. Arthur helped you off his horse whilst one of the women put a blanket around you and took you over to their tents, reassuring Arthur that they would take good care of you.
You were frightened, shaking. You had every right to be.
Hosea explained everything to Dutch, and he calmly welcomed you to the camp, telling you you could say as long as you wanted to.
You felt safe.
The next morning you awoke before everyone else, though your night's rest was interrupted with nightmares. You got up from your temporary bed and made your way to the campfire, warming yourself up by it as the cold morning air surrounding you. A short while later you could hear someone approaching you, you turned, somewhat startled, but calmed quickly as you saw it was only Arthur approaching. "Mornin Miss (L/N), didn't mean to scare ya'," he said as he sat beside you. "Oh, it's not your fault. I'm just so on edge, but I'll calm eventually," you replied. "You take your time. You have every reason t'be feelin like this," he lit a cigarette as he spoke. "Mhmm," you said as you nodded.
The two of you sat in silence for a while. By the time he had finished his cigarette, most of the camp was awake. Arthur offered you a hand as he stood up and said he'd introduce you to everyone. You smiled and accepted it.
Arthur took his time introducing you to every member the two of you came across. They were all so lovely and welcoming, though he didn't introduce you to Micah as he said "this ones a rat, whole camp hates him. Dunno why we keep him really, Dutch's orders I suppose," and shrugged.
Sean seemed overly welcoming and had the personality of someone who was constantly tipsy, though he may be. He makes sure to let you know that you'd feel like a member of the family in no time. Charles gave you his deepest condolences and offered you a shoulder to cry on if you ever needed it. Along with offering to take you hunting if you ever wanted a distraction. Swanson said he would pray for your speedy recovery and assured you your family would be very welcomed into heaven. You wondered why a man of God was drinking himself to death.
The two of you continued to wander around camp. "Ahh! There he is!" Arthur said as he gestured to the tanned man helping himself to a cup of coffee. "(Y/N), this is Javier. He's a real charmer," Arthur teased as he nudged you. Javier looked up at you from his coffee and you could have sworn you saw him tense up. His eyes widened slightly, and he came to a halt, somewhat in shock. "Well don't just stare at her, Javier. Say hello to the lady. This ain't like you t'be ignorin' a woman," Arthur said to him. "Uh.. Hola," Javier sheepishly replied. He seemed shy.. no, stunned? Maybe he hadn't woken up yet. "Hello, Javier," you replied to him. "Dutch found Javier years ago after he fled Mexico, it's a long story," he whispered the second half of that sentence to you. "He didn't speak a word of English when we met him," Arthur smiled. "Sorry, uhh.. excuse me. I've not woken up yet," Javier blurted out as he rushed off to the other side of the camp, staring at the ground as he walked. "That was weird. Normally Javier is more.. Javier, I guess. Ain't seen him so sheepish before, especially not around a woman," Arthur apologized to you. "Oh it's okay. I hate first impressions, maybe he does too?" You replied. "Mhmm. Ah well, plenty of time to get t'know him," Arthur said as he poured you both a cup of coffee then continued his tour around the camp.
Later on that day you insisted that you return to your house to collect whatever was left there. Valuables, belongings, food, etc. Arthur warned you how emotional it'd make you, but came with you on the journey.
Your house was ruined, vanished, forever gone along with everything inside of it. There was nothing to save. The Barnhouse, however, was still standing and untouched. You went inside to collect a few things: weapons, a tent, some photos that were pinned to the work table in there, and a few more things. Feeling somewhat relieved, you headed back to camp, shedding a few tears on the way. You had a bittersweet feeling on the tip of your tongue, as if you had just buried that chapter of your life, and could begin a new one.
Charles helped you set up your tent. You decided to camp next to Arthur, as the space next to him had a beautiful view of the lake and beach, and because you felt safe camping next to someone who had helped you so much. He later left you to have some time alone. You sat against a tree and watched the sunset, hoping when the sun rose the next day you would really feel like this was a new chapter for you. There was no going back, only forward. You assured yourself that you can't stand around looking over your shoulder at the past, you must keep moving on.
As night had fallen, you decided to go and socialize a bit. Drinking seemed to be a very big social activity in this group, so you took a beer and sat yourself down at the fire with some others. They welcomed you as you sat.
You mostly listened, learning more about them as a group and individuals. You quickly picked up on small things: Uncle spent most of his time asleep and complaining, John and Abigail were somewhat together and Jack was their son, Dutch had a very fatherly role and had raised some of the members, Micah was one of the newest members to the gang, etc. As you people watched, you couldn't help but notice Javier sat diagonally to you. You noticed how his eyes would sometimes flick over to you, he would regularly rub the back of his neck, lick his lips, bounce his leg. "Why are you fidgetin' so much, greaser?" Bill asked as he sat beside him. "It's annoyin, stop it," he grumbled. "It's the bugs, Bill. They're all over me tonight," Javier shrugged. You felt it was a lie. "Well fuckin' swat em 'n' stop it," Bill replied. "Trying my best here, amigo."
One by one they either passed out or went to bed. "Goodnight," you said to John as he got up and made his way over to his tent. "G'nite you two," John replied. The two of you, referring to yourself and Javier - the fidgety one, the one who had barely spoken to you, the one who ran off when you first met. 'Thanks, John,' you thought as he left. Not in a mean way, just you were unsure what to talk about. Though you liked a challenge, so you perked up and began speaking to Javier, which caught him off guard. "So, Javier. How did you join the camp?" You asked him. "I, uhh..," he paused and rubbed the back of his neck. "Dutch me encontró," he replied. "What?" "Dutch me encontró. Hace mucho tiempo." "I don't understand what you're saying," you said as you squinted. "Oh Dios. No se como hablar contigo. Eres hermosa y estoy luchando por no hacer el ridículo," he spoke as he rubbed the back of his neck yet again. "Lo siento. Me voy a la cama. Buenas noches." Javier stood up and quickly walked off, making his way to his tent. You watched as he plopped himself down on his back, crossed his ankles, and pretended to sleep. 'What the hell.'
Every encounter with Javier was the same after that.
Weeks had passed. The gang felt more like home as the days went by.
By now you fit in very comfortably with everyone, even Javier who continued to only speak Spanish to you. Everybody questioned it, Arthur had even told him off for it, saying it came across like he was trying to be unwelcoming to you. A good few members of the camp found it funny, and you didn't really seem to mind. His confidence had picked up a lot after the first week, by now he spoke to you as if he was speaking to anybody else, just not in English.
You had just finished your camp chores and found the rest of the sunny day free to do as you pleased. You wandered around camp, seeing what everyone was up to. Near the horses sat Javier, fiddling about with some fishing gear. By now, you had developed some questionable feelings towards the Mexican. The two of you had technically never spoke, but you often found yourself dreaming about the stunning tanned man. You adored his long hair, tucked away in his ponytail, shorter strands sharpening his strong face. You hoped he'd one day tell you how he got the scar across his brow and one along his neck, in English hopefully. He was always dressed so smartly, which wasn't surprising as he was often cleaning his shoes or brushing the dirt off his clothes. He wore one of your favourite outfits today. Black trousers, white shirt, black waistcoat, and orange necktie. He was hatless today, though you did enjoy the sight of him in his bowler hat. You approached him.
"Whatcha doin there, Mr. Escuella?" you asked him. You rarely called him Javier, and your excuse for that was that he'd never introduced himself in English. So until he began to speak English, you would only address him formally. It made him laugh, you enjoyed teasing him. "Solo estoy preparando algunos artículos para ir a pescar," he replied as he looked up from where he was sat. "Oh, looks like you're sortin' out some fishing equipment," you said as you properly looked into what he was doing. You often did this, taking notice of whatever his current task was. Seeing as he'd never tell you what he was up to. "¿Quieres venir?" Javier asked as he signaled to the two of you, then to the lake. "If you're asking if I wanna come, then yeah, I do," you smiled. He smiled back and stood up. "Vamonos," Javier replied as the two of you made your way over to your horses.
You climbed onto (H/N), who surprisingly had survived the attack that night. Your horse must have fled when the attack happened, but later showed up at the camp. You assumed (H/N) had tracked you and followed you here. They were a smart horse, well bonded with you. They reminded you of home, but in a happy, loving way. You were glad someone had survived.
Javier took you to a small lake, a couple of minutes away from the camp. You didn't bother hitching your horse, giving them some time to wonder about and relax. Javier stayed silent as he got his rod out and began baiting up, you did the same, standing beside him. The two of you cast out, going in opposite directions. You decided to break the silence. "So when are you going to start speaking to me in English?" You asked him. "Pronto, tal vez," Javier shrugged. "I hope you just said soon," Javier nodded at you. "Oh, lovely! Nice to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel," you smiled.
Javier didn't reply as he managed to get a bite. You had heard he was a good fisherman but didn't expect him to catch anything within seconds of him reeling out. He reeled in a decent sized fish, unhooked it, and placed it into the bag beneath his feet.
The afternoon continued to drift by as the two of you fished in silence. Silence wasn't that bad, you guessed it wasn't as different as the two of you talking, considering you never understood what he was saying. The two of you had reeled in a decent amount of fish, all going to be ruined by Pearsons cooking later. You saw in the corner of your eye Javier yawning. "Want to head back soon?" you asked him. "Cinco minutos mas," Javier replied. You recognized that 'cinco' meant five, and minutos clearly meant minuets. So you assumed he said 'five more minutes.' Your translating train of thought came to a halt as you felt a harsh tug on your rod, much harder than any you'd ever felt. Javiers eyes snapped open as he saw you get pulled forward slightly by your rod. "Eso es un gran bocado," Javier said as he watched you panic and begin to reel in the monster of a catch. "Oh shit!" you yelped as it yanked you forward again, almost knocking you over. "A little help please, Javier!" Javier dropped his rod and rushed to stand behind you, arms reaching round to grab a hold of your rod, one of them on top of your own. You could feel Javier tense up as he helped pull on the rod, the two of you surprised by how much this beast of a fish was fighting. Javier let out short pants, his breath tickling your neck. You became too aware of how much he was pressed up against you. It felt like he was using helping you out as an excuse to press up against you, and you definitely didn't mind.
Another harsh tug snapped you out of your daydream as you were yanked forward again. Javiers quick reaction saved you from falling into the lake as he quickly grabbed a hold of your waist. His hand quickly went back to help you reel in your catch, clearly not wanting to cross too many lines. You felt your back press against his shoulder as you leaned back. The two of you fell to the floor as the line snapped, maybe you shouldn't have put some more weight onto the rod. You felt Javier hit the floor underneath you, your back against his chest as you fell on top of him. You were quick to roll off him, looking at him to see if he was alright. "Shit! Sorry! I didn't mean to squish you," you said to him. "Estoy bien. No puedo creer que se haya escapado," Javier replied, leaning up to prop himself up on his elbows. You couldn't help but laugh about it. Javier smiled at you, glad you were enjoying yourself. "It's a shame we didn't catch it!" You said as you laughed. "La próxima vez," Javier said as he stood up.
Javier offers you his hand to help you up, to which you gladly accepted. You couldn't help your chest feel warm as his skin pressed against yours, rough palms against each other. Once you were up, Javier let go. It felt like he was embarrassed, maybe awkward. You questioned what his feelings were toward you, if maybe he viewed you as more than a friend. Javier picked up his stuff and whistled for his horse, you did the same. The two of you had a quiet ride back to Clemens Point, though talking wouldn't make much difference.
By the time you were back, the sun had almost set. Whilst away, Dutch had announced they were going to have a party tonight. It was nice to see everybody so lively for once. They were always lively, and drunk, but something was different about tonight. You wandered around the party, helping yourself to the beer crate whenever you passed it. You felt a comfortable tipsy level, and more social and friendly than usual. John had spent a long while drunkenly telling you how glad he was that you'd joined the gang, and how well you fit in here. Sean jumped into the conversation and heavily agreed with him, saying you're a 'lovely lass,' and that hes glad you decided to stay. You couldn't help but smile as the two of them praised you. In the distance, you saw a familiar figure sat alone at the table. You excused yourself and went over to them.
"Need some company, Mr. Escuella?" you asked him as you approached. "Siempre necesito tu compañía, hermosa," Javier replied as he gestured for you to sit down at the table. You took your seat. "Why are you sat all alone?" "Solo estoy pensando." "Something on your mind?" You asked. He nodded. "Me pregunto cómo empezar a hablar contigo. No puedo evitar estar nervioso a tu alrededor. Tu me vuelves loco." "Ah, Javier. When will you learn that I don't understand what you're saying?" you sighed in a jokey tone. Both of you looked over your shoulders at the sound of Dutch turning on his phonograph and turning it all the way up. He asked Molly to dance with him, who obviously accepted. Javier snapped his head back around to look at you. "Quieres bailar conmigo?" he asked you. "Sorry Javi', I dunno what you're saying," you shrugged. Javier pointed to the two of you, then to Dutch and Molly. "Are you asking me to dance, Mr. Escuella?" You asked him. "Sí," he replied as he nodded. "I'd love to," you said. Javier sprung up from his seat and offered you his hand, which you happily accepted and both made your way to the 'dancefloor.'
Javier's other arm found its way comfortably around your waist, as your joint hands raised slightly. You put your spare arm on Javier's shoulder, enjoying the feeling of touching him and being held. The two of you swayed in time with the music, your chests very few inches apart. "So, Mr. Escuella. Why is it you can only speak Spanish to me?" you asked. "Como dije antes. Eres hermosa y, por una vez, estoy demasiado nerviosa para hablarte inglés. Me preocupa arruinar mis posibilidades," Javier explained, as if you would understand him. "Sorry, but I didn't understand a word of that. I think the translating part of your brain might be broken? Is there anything I can do to fix it?" you jokingly asked. "Podrías besarme. O simplemente ser mía para siempre," Javier shrugged. You exaggerated a sigh. "Maybe we're just never meant to speak," you teased. "No digas eso." "You know, when I was a kid, I used to read loads of fantasy books. I read this one where a princess once kissed a frog, and it turned him into a prince. Do you think that would work with you?" You asked him. "No me convertiré en un príncipe, pero no rechazaré un beso tuyo," Javier replied as he nodded in agreement. "Well then," you said as your other hand left Javiers and found its way around his neck. His other hand met your waist and pulled you in against him. "I hope this works," you smiled.
Javier lent in to finally meet your lips, something the two of you had craved for so long. You could feel his arms slip tighter around your waist as he pulled you against him more as if he had been longing to touch you. His hand came up to cup your cheek, fingers then trailing up to run along your hair, as your lips softly moved against his. He exhaled softly as he pulled away from you, not wanting to cross any boundaries.
"Did it work?" you asked as you slowly pulled away. "It did, but I may need another one, just to make sure I don't turn back," Javier flirtingly said. You smiled and wasted no time meeting your lips against his again, this time for much longer. You could overhear someone cheering the two of you on, which made the both of you laugh mid-kiss.
The two of you pulled away and his hand found its way around your waist again. You rested your head on his shoulder, feeling his cheek lean lightly on your head. "Do you want to know a secret, Javier?" You asked him. "Okay," he replied. You leaned up to whisper into his ear. "Yo también hablo español." You laughed as you felt Javier stop dancing and tense up. "You mean.. this whole time?" "Sí," you replied, laughing. "Oh dios, esto es tan vergonzoso," he pinched the bridge of his nose. "You know, I think you're beautiul too. And I've always been nervous to speak to you," you reassured him as you kissed his cheek. "Well I'm glad I haven't made too much of a fool of myself," he replied. "Eh, only a little bit," you teased, as you leaned in to kiss his lips once again, knowing this kiss would be far from the last.
