Possessive Xie Lian will forever live rent free in my head. Because 100% Xie Lian is polite but he also has severe attachment issues (aftereffects of becoming immortal at 17 and having your best friends leave at the hardest point in your life as everyone else died). Hence how he clung to Hua Cheng (the one person who hasn’t left in 800+ years). I could see him getting really possessive and at first he might be a little embarrassed about it and try to keep it inside but eventually he kinda snaps a little bit and Hua Cheng thinks this is The Hottest Thing He Has Ever Witnessed and says as much so Xie Lian ends up leaning a little more into it. He ends up putting fear of god (literally) into so many people because someone was trying to seduce Hua Cheng.
Also it’d be hilarious if that is how Feng Xin and Mu Qing realize how unhinged Xie Lian is about his husband because of this. Like, they’re on a mission to track down some ghost that has been causing problems and some girl in town is hitting on Hua Cheng much to his own displeasure but he’s being nice about it either because he wants to rile Xie Lian up or because Xie Lian asked him to be nice to the townspeople. But the second that girl tries to even just touch his hand, Feng Xin and Mu Qing see Ruoye come from behind and trip her so she falls in the dirt and while Xie Lian does help her up, it’s with the most passive aggressive look on his face while making it a point to point out that Hua Cheng is his husband and if she were to do anything like, idk, seduce him, they’d never find her body. She runs off embarrassed and terrified meanwhile Feng Xin and Mu Qing are having a mental breakdown over this side of Xie Lian that they’ve never seen before. Then they look over at Hua Cheng and Xie Lian and Xie Lian has gone back to his usual self while Hua Cheng looks like he’s had a religious experience.
Hua Cheng being the possessive and jealous one is all great and amazing but I think Xie Lian's just as, if not more possessive - he just hides it better and seems so kind and unassuming, nobody would suspect him of it.
So one day when somebody tries to make a move on Hua Cheng, before he can yeet them out of existence, they're suddenly on the ground, clutching their leg and Ruoye quickly returning to its master after having tripped them, coiling around Xie Lian's wrist like a snake.
"Oh. My hand slipped." Xie Lian smiles, kind, polite and very fake, a dangerous glint in his eyes that reminds of his standing as a martial god if not his brief bout as a calamity. "I apologize." (He isn't sorry). "You should watch your step next time." (He isn't talking about walking).
Hua Cheng witnesses wordlessly as the poor sod scrambles to leave and realizes he has never wanted to be pregnant so bad in his entire life
