Hello, how are you? I loved your headcanons about Night at the Museum, several of them have become canon in my mind as a fan. I don't know if you're taking requests, but could you do headcanons like you did for the other characters, but this time for Amelia Earhart? I feel like she needs more love from the fandom, and besides, she's one of my favorite characters in the franchise.
Tumblr media
GENERAL HEADCANONS - AMELIA EARHART
Hey! I am wonderful now that my business diploma has finally ended, so I can get through the small handful of requests i have, and my own personal ideas! How are you you my love? Which headcanons did you like, I would love to know!
If you would like to request more characters, please refer to my NATM MASTERLIST for the characters, and send you requests.
SUMMARY: See request above!
WARNINGS: nothing too different from the first list I did, and again my opinions!😱 I am basing these headcanons on the movie character, not the actual Amelia Earhart as I am not 100% knowledgeable on her history and don't want to offend the dead. I genuinely found this hard even though I've seen the movie 10 billion times!.
Amelia had long hair growing up that people would compliment and gush over. One day she got sick of it, so she grabbed the closest pair of scissors and cut her hair to her collarbone.
When it comes to how she talks, Amelia went to a play with friends as a teenager, and a character spoke in this unique way. She used the voice when making jokes, then it just became her daily voice.
I don't usually like sexuality based headcanons to characters based on history (excluding Jed and Octavius😂), but as a young teen I took one look at her and went "oh that's a badass Bisexual woman".
Amelia knew from a young age that "house wife" wasn't going to happen. She knew she was worth more than that. This doesn't mean that she didn't want to experience love and the warmth of a significant other. so when meeting potential (male) partners, the first thing she would say is "If you're looking for someone to cook and clean for you, then don't waste your time sugar".
In her twenties, she saw a plane fly across the sky, and knew from the sound of the engine, that she was going to become the best pilot the world had ever seen!
Amelia had a short time of being alive from the tablet, meaning she didn't get to see how her life changed the world for women. if given the chance, I feel like she would've had a moment of emotional silence. Feeling proud of herself, proud of all the women who fought to get to this point in history.
Again, she was only alive for a night. but she, and the original exhibits got along within no time, which created the best comradery.
From a basic google search, She loved creating coinvent and stylish fashion, so I just know she altered her coat to have as many pockets as it could fit. You could say it is the retro version of Yelena Bulova from marvel's utility vest!
If she had enough time to see movies, hear music, and taste food from our era she would LOVE movies based on flying (obviously), but I also think she would love comedy.
Amelia can surprisingly handle high levels of spicy foods, with little to no reaction. If she were to try a true traditional Indian curry, she would be asking for 2nds, 3rds, and 4ths!
her music taste would 100% be female empowerment artists, with a hint of metal. basically anything that would be fantastic for a badass battle scene.
She is soooooooooooOOOOooooo stubborn, which we can see in the movie. It is her way or the highway sometimes, which she tries her hardest to not be that way but it's like second nature.
again from light research, she was a nurse at a point in her life. with this, and also how tender she was with Larry and the rest of the exhibits she gets joy from being nurturing to those around her.
---------
DONE! I am not 100% happy with these, but truly there wasn't much to go off of. I hope you're happy with them MARVELFOREVER352.
Have a good Friday and a relaxing weekend!

Well, that she could do. She mostly did just that every other P.E. lesson. Sitting and watching the others play Wickery was so much more enjoyable than actually participating.
So she sat down next to the new teacher. "This school for the Young and the Gifted used to be a boarding house. It belonged to the Salvatore family but passed onto the headmistress, Caroline Forbes-Salvatore. She's currently in Europe. You know, recruitment missions and such."
Floribeth questioned whether recruitment was really the goal - miss Forbes-Salvatore didn't need to fly all the way to Europe for that when Doctor Saltzman essentially found Rafael next door.
He didn't really find him next door. He found him in Atlanta, Georgia. Yes, the rumor mill really ran that fast. About as fast as a vampire.
"So in the interim, doctor Saltzman - former hunter and father of the Saltzman twins, Josie and Lizzie - is acting as the headmaster."
Tumblr media
"There are several factions: there's the Salvatore werewolf pack, of which Jed is currently the alpha." She turned, pointing out one of the guys, going wild on the field and if her eyes lingered for a moment too long, well, that's Floribeth's secret. "Other pack members include Piper, Brock, Brutus and Trevor. And a bunch of others. Rafael is the newest addition to the pack. He came here with his brother, Landon. Jury's still out on whether Landon's just a human or whether he's actually preternatural. I've heard Dorian, the librarian, and Emma - our guidance counselor - argue about it."
And speaking of being preternatural...
"There are four active witch covens: the Goth Coven; the Dawn Coven, the Choral Coven and the Crafty Coven which also doubles as a Sewing Club. There is a nature coven too but I'm pretty sure their numbers are dwindling fast. Ironically, most of the witches are kind of lone-wolfing it, I think. That's what my friend, Wade Rivers, tells me anyway. As far as I know, Alyssa Chang's not part of a coven and neither is Penelope Park. But don't quote me on that, I could be wrong. 'Cause I'm not a witch. Also, I don't really talk to either of them." Because they'd decimate her. And neither of them needed magic to do it. Just their sharp, sharp tongues.
Floribeth dipped her head and then tucked her hair behind her ears. A remnant of her human days that she never did manage to lose.
"Then there are the vampires. Kaleb and MG are sort of the co-leaders. I've got fangs too so I'm part of the V faction as well. But, honestly, I mostly just hang out with my best friends, Loren and Mia. We kind of have this velociraptor sisterhood going on. Like, you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. That kinda vibe. We're sort of the Anti Squad to the Super Squad that's been slowly forming throughout this year."
Oh, and there's also Hope Mikaelson, the defacto leader of the aforementioned Super Squad. Hope's an entity unto herself. Someone who's been housing equal amounts pain and power on the inside for years now. Someone who's always kept to herself but did join Doctor Saltzman on missions like the one to bring Rafael back to the school (if the rumor mill was accurate, and it was).
Dionysia was pleased when someone was quick to volunteer. She was either a teacher's pet suck up judging by her earlier statements, where she could've easily told her some bullshit about them sitting and doing nothing for class but instead told her what seemed to be the truth, or she was someone who really hated Wickery. And in that case, perhaps she was both, if she was still willing to tell her the truth about it. Either situation worked in her favor, Dionysia thought.
Tumblr media
"The job is to sit and talk with me." she told her. "Come." She walked to the bleachers, though she paused seeing residue on them from previous shoes that walked over them. She held out her hand and a blanket appeared into it. She then laid it out over one of the seats and sat down. "I want you to tell me about the school. About other people who aren't here in this class, whether it's students or faculty. And any other information you think I should know as a teacher here."

Danny watched in intrigue as you beat down those two drunkards, spraying them with pepper spray and rushing out of the alley. It seemed like he finally did it. He finally managed to push you further and further and got you to snap. And he couldn’t be more pleased.
Of course, he had to hide that by playing Jed, mocking concern and worry, while all he wanted to do was grin with glee. He wondered if he could get you to kill someone. That would be quite the entertainment.
And you were angry, so very angry, he doubted he would have to do anything to get you to do so. You could’ve murdered those guys easily. He could see it in you. But for now, he knew he couldn’t do anything. Not yet, anyways.
He simply walked back with you to your home, listening as you explained your situation, and what had happened. What he stumbled upon. “I’m just glad you’re okay. And I’m glad I could help.”
“Yeah, I guess I’m just tired. Tired of being the victim and constantly being afraid. Tired of letting people walk all over me and I, I guess I just wanted to fight back. I know I could’ve handled it differently, but-”
“I think your actions were completely rightful. You wanted to defend yourself. There’s nothing wrong with that.” Jed replied, walking with you to your front doorstep.
“Thanks.” You smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. You both stood there for a moment, not saying anything. Not sure what to do or say.
Jed was the first to move, stepping back, and turning to leave. “Well, I guess I better go-”
“Wait, could you stay for the night? I could really use some company.” You stopped him.
A small smile crossed his lips, and he nodded. “Sure.”
As soon as you’re inside, you make a beeline straight to the cabinet, grabbing a bottle of wine and pouring yourself a glass. You needed another drink in you after all that happened.
Jed sat down on the couch, watching your actions with slight concern. This couldn’t be good.
You walk over to the living room, wine glasses and bottles in hand, sitting down beside him on the couch. “Want some?”
“Okay.” Jed shrugged, supposing some wine in his system couldn’t hurt. You poured him a smaller dose in his glass, placing the bottle on the coffee table, using some old Ghostface essays as a placemat. Danny inwardly frowned at the action.
You began to down the glasses quickly, drinking and drinking. One became two, two became three, three became four, and your vision started to blur, your head beginning to spin.
“Why don’t you take a break from that?” Jed finally had to say as you tilt the bottle to pour it, almost completely missing the glass and dropping it.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” You slur your words, leaning back on the couch and letting out a long sigh. “Jed, what’s your deepest darkest secret?”
The question makes him go quiet, a look of surprise on his face. The question came out of nowhere, to be fair. “Uh, I-“
“Here, I’ll go first. There’s another reason why I moved to Roseville, and it wasn’t just because of Ghostface, or how protective my parents could be, it’s because of something else. My father was the sheriff of our county, so I was always interested in the work, but he never let me get involved and forced me to work on the ranch where we lived. When I got older, he let me start going to the department, and one day, when I was eighteen, I met this guy convicted of murder, and I guess I was interested in him and we talked and- I- I accidentally left the cell door open and he got out, and- he killed my sister.”
Jed was silent, and you sighed. “Oh god, you probably think I’m a horrible person don’t you?”
“No, no. I don’t think it was your fault. I’m sure you feel very guilty and it’s been a burden for a long time. I know how you feel since I have to write about Ghostface. It’s not like I enjoy it, but it pays the bills. You wanted to hear my secret? Well, here it is. Ghostface sends me pictures of his kills and gets me to put them in the paper. It’s so fucked up, and I’ve lost so much sleep and had so many nightmares because of it.”
You rested your hand over Jed’s gently, comforting him. “Thank you for sharing this with me. I really appreciate it.”
He gave you a lopsided smile, shaking his head. You leaned over, pressing a kiss to his lips. He was shocked at first, but then kissed you back, soft and passionately.
After a few moments, you pulled away, panting softly. You lowered yourself down, moving to undo Jed’s belt buckle, before being stopped. “W-wait! Are you sure we should- I mean you’re drunk, I don’t think it would be good if we-”
“I’m fine. I want this. I know I do. Do you?” You asked.
“Yes.” He was quick to answer, grabbing your wrists and pinning you underneath him on the couch, surprising both you and him. His glasses fell to the side, and he just tossed them on the table without a care.
He kept you laying there, moving to the edge of the couch, pulling down your skirt. “You’ve been so stressed and went through a lot today, let me take care of you.”
Slipping off your panties, he eyed your soaked slit, biting his lip. “So wet. I bet you taste good too.”
His filthy words made you clench onto nothing, and before you could even process what was happening, you felt him lick up your core. You arched your back, head falling against the pillow. “Oh-”
He continued eating you out, drinking up your juices like a starved man, rubbing two fingers over your clit. You did your best to keep your thighs from clamping down on his head, but it was no use, and he had to use his free hand to force them open.
“I was right. You’re so fucking sweet.” He got out between sucks, his voice vibrating nicely against your cunt.
“Fuck, Jed! Right there!” You moaned, bucking your hips into his mouth, as you felt yourself grow closer.
He moved his fingers even faster, in hard circles around your clit, making you cry out a long string of curses and praise, grabbing at his hair, tugging the dyed locks. It had been far too long since someone had touched you like this, and you forgot how deprived you had grown.
“Shit, I’m going to- fucckkk” You moaned out, feeling your eyes roll to the back of your head as you reached your peak.
Jed sat up, wiping your juices off of his chin, panting slightly. You smiled down at him, moving over him as he sat up on the couch. You straddled him, kissing him and tasting a bit of yourself on his tongue. “I think it’s time I take care of you now.”
You kept eye contact with him, discarding his belt and unzipping his fly. Jed put on a condom, while you got ready. You lined yourself up with his member, slowly moving down on it, hiding your head in the crook of his neck.
“Oh god.” You moaned at how he stretched you out, how you felt a pleasant burn against the walls. Once the ache was less unbearable, you began moving.
Jed groaned, leaning his head back, and holding your hips, moving you slightly along. “Fuck, so tight.”
You pressed kisses from the stubble on his chin, down his neck, sucking and leaving small hickeys. Nothing too noticeable, before moving back and picking up the pace.
“Feels so good.” He mumbled, returning the favor and kissing your neck as well, going lower to your collar bones.
“Yeah, it feels- Ah- amazing for me too.” You managed to get out, bouncing on him a little more, feeling him start to throb.
You were growing close as well, squeezing him tightly, kissing him again. Jed bucked his hips up into yours, hitting right against your cervix, making you scream and dig your nails into his forearms. And after a few more thrusts, you both reached your peaks, finishing together.
You laid beside Jed, sighing softly, both of you calming down from your highs. “That was amazing.”
“It was good for me too.” He said, pressing a kiss to your neck. You eventually fell asleep on the couch, resting in his arms.

.......................................................................................................................
"Master Jed-" You paused as you took him in fully, his robes slightly blackened from ash, his hair wasn't as perfect as it always was, a stray lock falling on to his forehead. Just from his eyes you could tell something was wrong.
"Please..." He hung his head, sighing, "Don't call me that."
He sounded desperate, his voice was strained, like he had been yelling and screaming for eternity and was just now getting time to rest.
"What..." Just as you were about to ask what had happened to him, you saw the tears, he was crying, no, sobbing.
You didn't hesitate to rush over to him, placing a hand on his back to steady him as you led him over to a chair.
You knelt beside him. "I'm here" you softly murmured you didn't want to press further into what had occurred, but right now, you didn't need to know, all you needed was for him to be okay.
"You always are."
You cocked your head in confusion, and he finally looked at you, placing his hand over yours as it rest on his knee.
"You're always-" He swallowed back another sob, his voice trembled "Always, here for me."
You smiled softly up at him, it physically hurt you to see the amount of pain in his eyes, and you knew in that moment that you would do anything to take it from him. "I always will be"
He laughed, and your eyebrows furrowed, "You know it all meant nothing? The Jedi... The codes... All of it."
You weren't used to him talking like this, he was always so strict with himself, and you thought about how bad his situation had to have been if he was questioning the very things he had lived by for so long.
"I wasted so much time..." He sighed, turning to look at you again. "I wasted so much time not being with you."
"Obi, you visit me all the time, I promise it's oka-"
"No, no, that's not what I mean" He seemed more sure of himself now, like all of the questions and doubts he had about everything for the last few days had now flown from his mind. He squeezed your hand, "I love you."
A quiet gasp left your lips, and you suddenly knew exactly what had happened, the Jedi Order had fallen. As shocking as that revelation was though, in a sad sort of way, you were happy. He was free.
You felt yourself begin to tear up, all the visits to your little hut, the flowers from distant planets, the kisses left on your knuckles that you had sworn burned into your skin, it wasn't just the chivalry of the Jedi Code he was always so intent on following all of the time, it was simply, him.
"Run away with me."
His rapid change in tone gave you whiplash,
"We could go anywhere, I don't care where, just let me be with you."
"I love you Obi" You smiled at him, "and I would have followed you anywhere that damned Order took you"
He chuckled sadly, like he was still mourning the loss of his way of life
"And I'd follow you anywhere now. As long as you allow me to love you."
You didn't know when it happened, when his rough hands had found themselves planted on your cheeks, all you knew is that you didn't mind, and when you found his lips feverishly pressing against yours, you also knew that this is how things were always meant to be.
"I love you" He repeated, his voice booming within the confines of your small home, like he wanted everyone to hear him.
Like he was finally free to share with the world his love for you.
Because he was.
.....................................................................................................................
oh my gosh, this made me so happy! anon, i hope you enjoy! again, thank you so so much for this ask! i hope i did obi wan some justice! happy obi wan is the best obi wan and no one can change my mind. but mwauh! thank you anon, and i hope everyone enjoys this one as well!

i’ve actually read both of the articles that you mentioned earlier! I could see where both of them were coming from at varying points, though shannon liao’s struck me as a tad harsh, as someone who felt very seen by Alex, particularly with regard to her asian-american identity, and the cultural details and familial attitudes you see displayed throughout the game (especially in episode 5.) I could see why others would like them to be more overt, but they’re still present & relevant as is, imo.
I'm happy you read and enjoyed them! Well, since we’re on the subject, I might as well give my fuller thoughts about all this. This answer got horrendously long, so I'm putting it under a read more. I really wanted to talk about this more fully, so thank you for sending this ask!
I definitely see Robert's point in his article. Alex didn’t need to be Asian for the story of True Colors to be told, but it’s still meaningful that she is so that Asian fans and fans of color can look up to her and feel represented. The Chens buck a lot of stereotypes too: Mrs. Chen was not a “tiger mom” and her kids and husband remember her fondly. Mr. Chen doesn’t push Alex and Gabe to excel in school, and in fact neither Alex nor Gabe went to college, but they still had happy futures. Alex isn’t the best friend or the Asian schoolgirl or the dragon lady or the Asian nerd. But at the same time, when Robert says "Alex never really talks about her thoughts on Chinese culture,” that’s like— well, what’s wrong with talking about it? Why not talk about it more explicitly? The words “Asian” and “Chinese” and “Vietnamese” aren’t even used in the game when "gay" and "lesbian" were, and that's a little disappointing.
I figured people would figure out Alex was at least Chinese because of her last name, but I saw some streamers unsure of what Alex’s ethnicity even was (“Alex is… Chinese, right?”). That was disappointing because Asians tend to be treated as a monolith when we’re so internally diverse. Also, it’s completely possible to miss that Alex and Gabe are also half-Vietnamese. Their mother’s name is Giang “Wendy” Chen, a Vietnamese name, but that’s only in the credits. There’s far less Vietnamese (and Southeast Asian) rep than Chinese, so I wish that had been made more explicit.
In Life is Strange 2, Sean and Daniel’s struggles (personal and institutional) were centered around their identity as half-Mexican boys. True Colors almost seemed to be going in the opposite direction in that Alex’s Asian heritage never really becomes plot-relevant, but Alex and Gabe’s background comes into focus in the last chapter.
Part of Shannon’s critique was that because Alex’s parents aren’t in the picture, the game can’t explore Asian culture through a familial lens. There is some truth to that: for children of immigrants in particular, their parents are their strongest (and sometimes only) link to their race and culture. I thought a big missed opportunity was exploring Alex’s possible sense of isolation and struggle to reconnect with her Asian heritage after being separated from her family.
After growing up with two Asian parents, eating Asian food, celebrating Asian holidays, likely speaking Asian languages, etc. it would have likely been disorienting and lonely for Alex to suddenly be raised by non-Asian foster parents and lose all those traditions all at once. Possible comments like “I really miss Mom’s pho” or “Do you know how difficult it is to find hoisin sauce in the stores around here?” could have inferred more at that specific kind of loss and isolation in Haven Springs. The game touches upon this very briefly when you look at Gabe’s shrine, and Alex does comment “I don’t even know if I’m doing this right… but I felt like I had to do something.” In this way, I find it especially poignant that she still held onto cultural traditions after so long.
But I still thought Shannon’s critique was overly harsh. The little details really do add up, like in Alex’s childhood home, and meant a lot to me too. And most importantly, there was representation behind the scenes too: Alex was voiced by two(!) Asian American women and the lead writer, Felice Kuan, is Chinese. I think Alex naming her mouse Shu-shu was my favorite detail. Because it’s the one detail you can’t miss. Every streamer remembers Shu-Shu’s name and loves how cute she is and they can probably infer it’s a Chinese term. It just is so visible and empowering in that way and my heart felt warm every time I heard someone say “Aw! Shu-shu!"
But that doesn't mean Alex's Asian heritage didn't matter at all. I really appreciated that Alex's backstory still mattered because she came from a poor, working-class immigrant family. Her life circumstances were used for drama, but none of Alex's suffering was racially motivated and that felt tastefully done. I’m gonna paraphrase a comment I saw on alliebeemac’s playthrough of episode 5: "It's no coincidence that both Alex and Ryan lost their mothers at a young age, but because Ryan's father was a military veteran and had a high-paying job as a Typhon foreman, he got to keep his childhood whereas Alex's entire world was torn apart... And if you want to look at it even more metaphorically, the white patriarch Jed was able to preserve his own image as a hero and 'good old boy' of Haven by literally sacrificing an immigrant family to the mines with the expectation that nobody would come looking for them. Whether you're an immigrant or whether you're a foster child, the system is saying 'we don't care about you.'"
And at the end, Alex tells Jed, "You want to look away and pretend the men you hurt weren't people. But I won't let you.” It's a deliberate stand against Jed (a white man)’s dehumanization of poor laborers, including her Chinese immigrant father. Jed isn't explicitly portrayed as a racist, but his actions come from a privileged, and subsequently racist and classist place. For me, it worked better than LiS2's portrayal of racism because it was subtler and more personal. Alex stands up against Jed out of a personal sense of justice for her brother (and her father).
Do I wish we had more? Yeah, absolutely. I wish Alex got to actually speak Mandarin or Vietnamese in the game because that's so rare in games, even though I knew that would be unrealistic because Erika Mori is Japanese. I wish the character artists had at least made a version of Alex and Gabe’s models without shoes, because it just didn’t look right to see them wear shoes in the house (especially in bed??) and even LiS2 had Sean and Daniel in their socks in some scenes. I wish Alex and Gabe talked more about their family while Gabe was still alive and Alex could have had that comfort of someone who misses the food and customs they used to celebrate. But like I said, one piece of media isn’t gonna please everyone. And Asian representation in particular is so tricky because not only is there not enough of it, but Asian Americans are so diverse and come from so many different backgrounds. Children of immigrants are going to feel more connected to their Asian heritage than third or fourth gen kids or mixed race kids for example. Everyone is going to have a different definition of “Asian culture” and “accurate representation.”
But on a meta-level, it really means so much to simply have an Asian face on the box of a major Western game ❤️ Like even just seeing the way Alex's eyes crinkle when she smiles or how other characters find her attractive (like Steph’s note during the LARP preferring Alex’s natural black hair), it feels so affirming. It’s incredible to see an Asian girl be called the hero of her own story, to see her succeed and fail and cry and laugh and fall in love and kiss another woman and be comfortable in her bisexuality. It acknowledges that the queer community includes Asians, that Asian girls can also be curvy, that Asian girls can and do struggle with mental health. And like Erika Mori said, Alex is a fully-realized character and that’s what makes her so compelling, first and foremost. She also has a strong moral compass and dreams and fears and is such an incredible role model for people of all backgrounds, and that’s what makes her identity as a queer woman of color so much more meaningful.

The Roseville Murders
Danny “Jed Olsen” Johnson x Female Reader
After getting yourself into a rather tragic incident, you are reassigned to work elsewhere to protect your young career as a detective.
Your life would sure but slowly change when you meet a bright journalist named Jed Olsen, always looking to get inside information from you regarding the murders in Roseville. Seeking Jed Olsen’s help in finding the Ghostface, a spark ignited between the two of you.
Chapter One: Roseville
Y/N rubbed her eyes, tired from the long car ride you just endured. It was a long car ride from your old home but at least the day was nice. It wouldn’t be long until dusk came. In a way, you were glad. You often thrived in the nighttime and took it as an opportunity to wind down and finally rest. It was a large rental truck that you had taken on your journey to your new home, Roseville. You didn’t necessarily choose the location; you were assigned to go there. After the incident, you were assigned to help in the investigation regarding some gnarly murders. This piqued your interest since you had an interest in crime and journalism, more so crime.
It was quite the strange time, being a junior detective, or that’s what they called you anyways. Your time in the police academy was short-lived, it didn’t take long to become a detective in the nineties. Even so, you managed to impress some detectives and officers. You also had an eye for stuff that would normally slip other people’s mind, the small details were more or less important to you. Admittedly, your interest in detective work stemmed from the fact you loved horror movies and shows. Even books. It would be a silly idea in the eyes of others but you figured you could do some good. You were also extremely annoyed at how incompetent other officers could be, not writing reports in detail or straight up refusing to do a full investigation. It was ridiculous and you figured you’d try and change this.
Johnathan Stevens was the name of your supervisor, an older gentleman. He formerly investigated murders and unsolved crimes in the fifties and sixties, his prime. Some would even consider his work to dabble in the supernatural. You weren’t sure if you believed such things, not that you were a skeptic since there were small things you couldn’t explain growing up. His work was great nonetheless and he saw the potential in you. You admired him and he gave a good word to others on your behalf. He was the reason you got a job in helping the investigation in Roseville. Ah yes, Roseville.
You were excited in a way. Johnathan was able to get you a role in the investigation of the Roseville Murders. The prime suspect was a man in a costume who went by the name Ghost Face. They ultimately branded the series of murders as the Ghost Face Murders. Y/N read the files and you began to think of your own theories on who this mysterious murderer could be. The murders were premeditated and were always executed in a similar fashion. Y/N saw some photos left behind by the Ghost Face, he enjoyed posing and took pride in his work. Your train of thought suddenly ended when you saw the town’s sign.
“Welcome to Roseville.” You subconsciously mumbled. There was a slight feeling of regret and worry that itched at you from the inside but you brushed it off. No going back now, you wanted to be a good detective and help those in need.
Your hands brushed towards your turn signals. The apartment you rented wasn’t too far and you didn’t have too many things you brought with you. Roseville seemed like a quiet little city, very peaceful and tidy. A part of you had trouble even imagining that such grizzly murders could take place in what people would consider a perfect town or city. This seemed like a place where somebody would want to raise a family or live a quiet life, it pretty much had everything you needed. You didn’t blame them, the big city life was horrendous, as were the crimes there committed. Y/N sighed deeply as you pulled into the parking lot of the apartment building. It was red and looked somewhat old. Not that it mattered, you were happy with anything at this point. You rubbed your eyes again before resting your forehead on your steering wheel, putting your car into park.
It was about 6:00 PM, you didn’t have to be at the station until 7:30 PM. Much to your dismay, it was enough time to talk to your landlord. You had met prior on a phone call and you got the apartment rather easily. You saw pictures and were instantly keen on getting a lease for it. You checked your mirror to quickly fix your hair up and refresh yourself. After a moment or two, you got out and walked towards the door. Y/N pushed it open and caught a glimpse of the lobby. It was well-furnished and tidy. It was a lot better than your old apartment building in the city. Your mood lightened up, looking forward to a somewhat quieter life. You figured you had your share of the city bars and nightclubs, other shenanigans you encountered when you were slightly younger. You took a few steps in and walked towards the main office. Your shyer tendencies made you hesitate but you knocked lightly on the door, pushing it open.
“Hello?” You called out as you made eye-contact with a blonde woman.
“How can I help you?” The woman asked you, putting away some papers into a filing cabinet.
Her hair was actually kind of long and seemed natural. Her skin was fair and her eyes were a darker shade of blue. The woman’s dark eyebrows helped in bringing out her beautiful features. She was a thin but tall woman. Her attire consisted of a white turtleneck with a cardigan, dress, and black dress shoes with long, white stockings. It was a healthy mix of coziness and business. Y/N smiled kindly and extended her hand out.
“I’m Y/N L/N. I assume that you’re Deborah?” You asked as she quickly returned the smile, a more charming one. She shook your hand, her touch felt welcoming, something that was needed in Roseville.
“Yes, I am. Lovely to finally meet you! How was the trip?” She asked as you shrugged slightly.
“A bit boring but I made it.” You replied as she giggled a bit.
“Take it from me, Roseville is happy you decided to come. The rumors and murders have driven a few people away. We’re happy to have another officer to help.” Deborah said to you.
“Yeah, well, if anybody ever gives you trouble then you’ll know where to find me.” You said as she perked up. Deborah quickly walked towards her desk and grabbed a set of old, somewhat rusty keys. With a sweet smile, the woman planted the metal in your palm.
“Thank you, Y/N. I appreciate you choosing here to live. If you need help unloading your stuff, my brothers are one call away.” She said. With that voice and attitude, the woman would have made an excellent commercial woman.
“I should be fine.” You assured the woman before exiting the office space.
You swiftly walked out towards the parking lot. It was a rather nice evening so far. The sky was a mixture of pink and red with a nice breeze. You held your forehead for a second, having small flashbacks of a man grunting and swearing. You shut your eyes tightly for a moment before sighing stubbornly. Y/N didn’t want to waste anymore time remembering what happened, it was pointless. A part of you felt gross and weird. Your eyes narrowed in an annoyed manner, looking at the stuff you had to bring in.
Maybe you didn’t want to bring in that stuff anymore. You looked around, there was a bakery and a coffee shop nearby on the beautifully constructed sidewalks. Each shop had a small garden or some sort of plant in the front. Roseville was old in an industrial sort of way but the shops, houses, and plant life made it have a rather beautiful aesthetic. Not only that but you enjoyed the weather. You sighed softly, deciding that you should just walk to the police station. Ignoring the lazy and depressing feeling you had, you decided to just walk to clear your head of the memories. And so, you locked the doors to the rental truck and began your little adventure.
“You realize what you’ve done, right?” Jonathan questioned you, his nostrils flaring slightly. In his eyes were a deep stare of concentration. You felt numb but remorseless, you kept your head down.
“He was going to hurt me, Jon.” You mumbled to him, your eyebrows tightly knitted as you looked for any sort of agreement within his eyes. The man sighed deeply, rubbing his eyes with his fingers. Jonathan seemed tired.
“I know he was, kid... but you shot a man. You took a mans life. I understand you did it to defend yourself but the court might not see it that way.” He said.
“Well, I’m glad I did. He would’ve hurt more women. Innocent women.” You replied with bitterness in your voice. He sighed before sitting down, taking a moment to collect his thoughts. His eyes met yours as you looked away.
You thought about the incident a lot. You replayed your own screams in your head before the distinct sound of a gun fired in your ears. Before you even realized it, you were staring dead ahead, reliving it with intense focus. It’s not like you wanted to, it was automatic and you still didn’t process most of it. In fact, it felt like a dream. Y/N shut her eyes, exhaling sharply before looking at the man in front of her. Your eyelids rested, the numbness overcoming the raw feeling of the flashback you had just endured.
“There’s... a case in a city. A smaller city. If I talked to the others and reassigned you somewhere far, would you do it? We’ve known you for years and we care. I know that man could’ve hurt my wife, my daughter, my sister... we understand. Not many people know about this. We could help you.” He said.
“What do you mean? Won’t I be charged for it?” You asked him.
“Np, not if we... sweep this under the rug. But, if we do this then you have to do something in return. Do you want this?” He asked you. Your eyebrows lifted in surprise as you pondered his offer for a moment, you looked around the room.
“I-I do, but... will they actually do this? For me?” Y/N asked as he nodded. He seemed a bit gruff, just tired from the paperwork.
“We’ve discussed it but listen to me. You can’t tell anybody about this. We’re doing you a big favor, a huge one. The director said that more officers and detectives are needed in Roseville, he said they’d be glad to accept you. This will be a lot better than telling the court what happened.” He said.
“I, yeah, yeah.” You said, nodding in slight anticipation. Nonetheless, you were very grateful for this opportunity.
“Whenever you’re ready then but it might have to be in the next week or two.” Jonathan said to you as he looked around, somewhat nervously.
“Thank you...” You replied a bit awkwardly, not sure how to display your gratitude for him. He only nodded with a small smile, patting your head.
“Go home, kid. I’ll handle the guy.” He said as you nodded.
You sighed as you looked upwards, the sky was a mixture of purple and blue. This was your favorite type of weather. It brought peace and calmness. A small smile curled onto your lips when you thought of the old times, when you first experienced freedom and happiness. Your hands slid into your pockets as you continued to walk down the sidewalk, your gaze averting to the large building ahead. The Roseville Police Department, your future workplace.
The building looked rather strange for a police department. It had gates and vines around it, it almost looked like a school. Then again, school was indeed prison. You didn’t think about school much, in fact, you hated it. You never could relate to the other teens. Aside from writing and art, you really enjoyed watching horror movies. Anything horror intrigued you, books and movies alike. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that you were a horror fanatic. Strangely, it sort of inspired you to pursue this career. You were always pretty tough, blood and gore never bothered you. Even when you went to a morgue, it brought a small feeling of peace knowing the deceased were at rest.
You got closer and closer to the station, quickly since you were so lost within your own thoughts. The doors to the station were wooden yet grey, very large. Y/N looked around, there were very few police cars. Maybe being understaffed wasn’t the problem, it’s the fact that they seemed to be very poorly funded. You pushed the large door open, looking around the inside of the station. It was very eerie and quiet but seemed very cozy. A perfect image of the nineties. With your arms crossed, you walked up to the front desk. There was a cup of coffee, you assumed it was cold and took another look around. There were medical beds and tons of chairs stacked together. Not only that but there were statues and paintings. The paintings seemed old but the faces were creepy. Upon staring at them, you soon found inspiration in their haunting gazes.
This was going to be an interesting job, you thought.
Jed Olsen sighed deeply as he looked through different piles of papers that were piled together. It was rather stressful to have to proof-read his coworker’s work. Some of the work he looked over was really badly written. No wonder somebody of his talents got that job really easily. Ever since he arrived at Roseville, he thought he made a good impact on the city. Roseville lived in fear and that’s how he liked it.
As the young man’s thoughts turned towards his other line of profession, he smiled widely and rested his eyebrows. His name wasn’t actually Jed, it was Danny Johnson. Jed Olsen was the alter ego that Danny created when he came to this place. Aside from killing, writing was one of his professions. Danny was good at it and he even got to write about his own murders. It was exhilarating, to say the least. It brought excitement to this city, it brought excitement into his own life. The journalist façade was a great gig, he needed a job anyways. It was very convenient nobody questioned him or invited him to the bar. Then again, he was a bit younger so his coworkers didn’t bother to hang out with him much.
Danny looked around cautiously before pulling his bag towards him. He only carried around his camera. In his office, there weren’t any cameras and his door actually had a lock. There wasn’t anybody around since it was the evening and he decided to stay late to proof-read papers. His camera was black yet worn out and scratched up. Still, he chose to ignore it since that thing was his prized possession. Danny pretty much checked on it everyday to make sure it wasn’t broken and to just simply admire his work he did on it.
“Hmm...” He hummed to himself as he clicked through the photos on it. He smirked looking through his work.
His next murder was going to be perfect. Danny planned on getting more photos of Ghostface doing his heinous crimes. Jed Olsen managed to get photos of the serial killer taking pictures of his murders in rather cocky ways. And of course, the police had no idea that it was him who did it. The police here were amateurs that didn’t do their job right. It was incredibly easy getting away with the murders and surprisingly, the FBI didn’t get involved.  Oh well, the law enforcement probably had other things to deal with right now.
As he clicked through the photos, thinking about his next murders, his thoughts were interrupted when he heard the familiar chime of the front door open. Maybe it was his boss? Danny quickly put his camera away in his desk drawer and rushed to unlock his door. The Roseville Gazette was usually a quiet place. He looked up as he noticed a young woman at the front desk of the gazette.
“Hey, how can I help you?” He asked, immediately switching to his Jed persona.
“Hi, I’m Y/N. I was wondering if there was a Jed Olsen around here? I didn’t realize it was quiet here.” She said with a smile.
For a moment, Danny focused on her smile. It was a beautiful and genuine smile. Strange but not everybody was as shallow as his victims or the people he met. His gaze averted to her eyes and then her face. She was indeed a very beautiful person. A pleasant surprise, not that Danny ever indulged in romance.
“You’re speaking to him.” He replied with a playful shrug.
Y/N stared at him for a second before raising her eyebrows in surprise.
“Oh. well nice to meet you, Mr. Olsen.” You said as you extended your hand.
“The pleasure is mine.” Danny replied as he shook your hand.
The touch of your hand was rather soft. He didn’t know it yet but he felt slightly flustered. Danny never really met anybody that he considered attractive. Maybe he did but he never paid attention to that sort of thing.
“Do you have time right now? Or wanna schedule a date to quickly go over your work?” You asked him.
“A date?” He asked blankly. Danny didn’t know what you meant but his brain took it in a romantic way since he thought you were pretty. Your eyebrows furrowed awkwardly in confusion as you nodded slightly with a small smile.
“Um, yeah... I can come back sometime or we can meet at a coffee shop. I’m a detective so... yeah.” You say, automatically getting awkward around people your age. Danny nearly facepalmed himself but his mind quickly went to darker places.
A new detective? A detective who wanted to talk to him one-on-one? None of the detectives decided they wanted to question him. Did this woman find something? Did she suspect him? She looked like she could be a psychologist or something so maybe she wanted to see how he’d react when explaining the Ghostface articles he wrote? He’d have to get her last name and see where she lived. Y/N looked like she’d be easy to kill.
“Jed?” She asked in concern.
“Oh, yeah. Definitely... I have time right now. Sorry, I just get zoned out when I think of the murders and the sick photos he took.” He apologized.
“Don’t be sorry, that type of stuff is something nobody can get used to.” You reassured him. Jed was actually quite handsome.
“Yeah, you’re right. Come into my office.” He said, signaling with his head where his office was. You followed him in.
The office was old. It seemed rather boring at first but that’s what office jobs are for, anyways. His desk was quite clean. Jed seemed to be a very organized person. It would make sense considering his work on the Ghostface murders. You took a seat across from his desk and smiled a bit as he sat down. You were a pretty diligent worker so got straight to the point.
“So, Jed... as you know, there’s an ongoing investigation on the Ghostface Murders that I was assigned to.” You began. Danny nodded, leaning back in his office chair comfortably. He stared at you intently, watching your expression as he worried.
“I took on the liberty of reading your work on the murders. You write about him in a very peculiar way... admirably, almost.” You said to him. Danny tried to hide his worry but he was trying to figure out a way to kill you quickly. Maybe you were FBI? You were already sharper compared to the other officers/
“Anyways, I really love your work, Jed. I’ve taken a personal interest in the Ghostface. And as a detective, I’d like to get to try and get to know him as best I can.” You said with a hint of excitement in your eyes.
“Get to know him…?” He replied, slowly reaching for the knife taped under his desk.
“With your work and your input, I could put together a psychological report on him. If we want to catch him, we should figure out what type of person he is first.” Y/N said.
Danny’s fingers stopped right above the knife. His hand slowly backed away from the bottom of the desk. So, she didn’t suspect him? Danny almost laughed out of relief and at her. He was stupid for thinking she could’ve found out he was Ghostface. Y/N only seemed to be interested in his work.
“Oh, I see… yeah, that would make sense.” He said to you as you crossed one leg.
“I’m glad you agree. I’m determined to catch him and maybe even see his motivation.” You replied to him. Danny’s eyes sparked for a moment as he stared at you.
“His motivation?” He asked as you thought for a moment.
“Probably sounds strange, I know but… he must have a reason, right? And I find it so interesting how he goes about his murders. I actually have a theory about him.” You explained.
You seemed to trust Jed Olsen. The other officers and detectives said he liked to bug and probe them all the time for more information regarding the murders and what their progress was like. And truth be told? There was very little they could go off of. Ghostface was too methodical and careful, left absolutely no trace of himself besides the pictures Jed retrieved. He was a hard-working journalist and you had a good feeling about him, anywyas.
He was also pretty cute.
“I don’t think it’s strange, at all. I’ve never seen any of the detectives so passionate about the case. They always brush me off… so, what’s this theory?” Danny asked you, watching your expressions.
“Well, I only just saw your work today but I thought about it when I walked here. Ghostface seems to be rather cocky, a common trait in younger men. But, since we never caught him or anything, I know he’s really careful with what he does. The murders are also premeditated. They’re too… clean and carefully executed even if it is a bloodbath.” You sort of rambled on.
A weird feeling tingled inside of Danny as you continued to explain your theory.
“He’s really cunning and methodical. And based on my other observations, I think he uses the murders as a way of expressing himself. I’ve read about other serial killers caught… they usually leave marks, take trophies, and know the victim in some ways. Or they’re just cold-blooded but not in his case. I think he sees the murders as a form of art or something along those lines.” You said to him.
His eyebrows raised in surprise. Who the hell was she? Danny thought for a moment. She was right, he did see his murders as art and something beautiful. Did she see it that way too? This woman was strange, indeed. As as young detective, he admired her naive nature.
“That would actually make sense… he does seem to make an unnecessarily big mess when killing and yet, the police can’t find anything on him? It makes total sense.” Jed replied.
“Right? Anyways, I was going to ask if you can type of a report or something along those lines. Give me every single detail you know about him and your analogy. Your input could be vital to solving this case.” You said, standing up.
“If you don’t mind me asking, detective, why are you so interested in him? You’re really passionate about this.” He said to you.
“I wanna understand him and see more of his artwork… it’s pretty fascinating. Also, you can just call me Y/N. Have that report ready in a week?” She asked him.
“Yeah, definitely.” Danny replied to you.
“See you then, Jed.” Y/N said as she nodded with a confident smile.
Y/N was indeed young and naive. Although, she didn’t share anything confidential, she placed a lot of trust into the journalist. Then again, why should she be untrusting of him? The young woman was so passionate, intelligent, and seemed to have a very strong sense of independence. Danny assumed she came here without any authority, taking matters into her own hands. A by-the-book cop? Maybe, maybe not. Danny found that strangely attractive. However, she might even hinder his efforts and catch him. He couldn’t let that happen, yet…
There was something so intoxicating about her. Danny never met anybody that was so compassionate and understanding to his cause. Maybe, he saw her motivation in his own twisted way. This woman wanted to understand him, to see things as he does. Nobody has ever went to that length for him. Not only that but, she had no problem talking about such grimey things in a way that she didn’t get disgusted. The man had a bit of a crazed stare in his eyes as he began to recall her features.
Detective Y/N, just who were you?
And so, the obsession begins.

I couldn’t believe that my Auntie was sending me in to a well-known dangerous man’s party. Heck, he was the most dangerous man there was.
But here I was, dressed up nicely and with a drink in hand in the flash hotel, waiting to try and get her undercover man, Jonathan Pine, alone so I could get information to pass on. She said I would know him as soon as I laid eyes upon him. Handsome, everyone was attracted to him, charming and such a gentleman, were her exact words.
I was a bit dubious and would’ve preferred a proper description. But heck, I knew exactly what she meant when I laid eyes upon him.
Getting him alone was going to be difficult, he had no idea who I was. I didn’t even know who I was supposed to be, really. How she got me into the party, I had no idea. I didn’t want to ask, as I didn’t particularly want to be here in the first place.
But with a bit of luck, I caught his attention as I passed by to get another drink. When I was waiting at the bar, he came up beside me.
Wanting to get it over with, I quickly glanced around to make sure there was no one else in earshot.
‘Uhm… Angela Burr sent me. I’m her niece.’ I said quietly as I turned to him.
His eyes widened a bit, then he put his hand out to me. ‘I’m Andrew Birch. Nice to meet you, darling.’ He smiled charmingly as I shook his hand. Then he leaned down to me and whispered in my ear. ‘Not here.’
His large hand gripped my upper arm and he led me quickly through the party, out into the garden and down towards a gazebo that was set up for the barbecue later. But it was empty for now.
He let out a sigh of relief when we slipped into the gazebo.
‘You need to be really careful, darling. Roper has ears everywhere.’ Jonathan said softly.
‘Yeah, I figured that. I’m not too pleased about being sent in here, but I was due my Auntie a favour.’ I shrugged and crossed my arms over my chest.
Jonathan leaned back against the table and smiled at me kindly. ‘It is a dangerous thing to do, you’re brave to agree. Whether you owe her a favour or not.’
‘I know… Now, let’s just get this over with. What do I need to know to pass on?’ I asked.
‘There’s a big deal going down next weekend, here’s a list of names of everyone involved. There’s also a price list there, too. Just so she can get an idea of the scale of it all.’ Jonathan pulled an envelope out of his pocket and handed it to me.
‘Thanks. At least I don’t need to remember a long list of names this way.’ I laughed, putting the envelope into my bag. ‘Angela asked me to check if you’re still ok? If you’re sure you still want to do this? She can pull you out anytime.’
‘I’m fine, thank you, darling. I’m so close, I am not going to back out now.’ He said determinedly.
I nodded. ‘Fair enough. You’re far braver than I ever would be.’
‘We better get back, before we are missed.’ Jonathan said, just as we heard footsteps coming down the garden path.
We could see through the gazebo sides it was Roper and one of his right-hand men, Frisky. They were coming right towards the gazebo.
‘Shit.’ Jonathan hissed. ‘Go with me on this, trust me.’ He said as he grabbed me and forced me over the table.
‘Jonathan! What!’ I gasped in surprise as he flipped my dress up, kicked my legs apart and moved in behind me.
‘Shhh, go with it. Or we will both end up dead.’ He growled in my ear as he folded himself right over me and started grinding against me.
He quickly unbuttoned his fly and pulled his cock out, to make it seem more realistic. I could feel it sliding against the backs of my thighs and my ass. Thank god I had knickers on… Although, it wasn’t exactly the worst position to be in with such a gorgeous man.
‘Andrew, where have you… Oh, Andrew. You naughty boy.’ Roper said as he and Frisky walked in on us.
Jonathan quickly straightened up and tucked himself away. I stood up straight and pushed my dress down, cheeks burning as I was a bit flustered. Which I realised, was exactly what Jonathan had been aiming for.
‘We were just, ah…’ Jonathan started sheepishly.
Roper put his hand up to stop him talking. ‘It’s clear what you were doing. Nice to see you’re finally getting some. This pretty bird caught your eye, huh?’ Roper winked at him, then looked me up and down, making me feel rather cheap and horrible.
There was just something about Roper, he was so clearly a man not to be trifled with. Scared the crap out of me, I couldn’t wait to leave.
Jonathan laughed and slid his arm around my waist and gave me a squeeze, he could tell I was scared.
‘I’ll leave you two to it, but don’t be too long. Jed has got the karaoke out, I know how much you like a good sing-along.’ He smirked at Pine.
‘Oh, uhm, I won’t be staying long. I need to get home, work in the morning.’ I said quickly.
Roper narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked at me. ‘You can’t leave my old boy here hanging. Oh no, you’re staying. I’m sure Andrew wouldn’t mind sharing his room with you for the night anyway.’ Roper then headed off.
‘I can’t stay, Jonathan.’ I said in a panic once they were out of earshot.
Jonathan took my hands in his and looked me dead in the eye. ‘It’s ok, darling. You’ll be fine, just relax. He will get too suspicious if you leave, just play it out and you’ll be ok. You can sneak out during the night once everyone has gone to bed.’
He took my hand and gave me another reassuring squeeze, though I was far from ok.
As we headed back into the hotel, I tried to stop and back out again. But he kept me walking. ‘Just stick by my side, you’re safe with me.’ He whispered as we headed in.
I was introduced to the others, I tried to be brave and keep smiling, no matter how hard it was. I felt so sick, but I managed to refrain from actually being sick.
If I hadn’t been scared shitless, I might’ve been able to enjoy the lavish life style for the night. Even the food that was on the barbecue later in the evening was incredible.
Roper and Corky kept looking at me funnily, making me very uneasy. But Jonathan would put me a little more at ease when he would slip an arm around me. Or kiss me rather boldly, keeping up appearances. Though it had surprised me when he slipped his tongue into my mouth on more than one occasion.
At the end of the night, I had never been more relieved than I was when Jonathan took me to bed. His room was as expected, very fancy and expensive. It was bigger than my flat!
I sat down on the edge of the bed and put my head in my hands.
‘Are you alright, darling?’ He sat down next to me and rubbed my back.
‘Yeah, I think so… Thanks for that.’ I said with a slightly shaky breath as I sat up straight and looked at him. ‘How long will I need to wait before I can leave?’
‘Let me check, stay here ok?’ He stroked my hair and when I nodded, he smiled and headed out of the room for a moment.
I took that time to check my phone, I had a message from Angela. Asking if I was doing ok. I quickly replied that I was fine, I had information for her and would send it as soon as I could.
By that time, Jonathan returned.
‘They seem to have all gone to bed. You are welcome to stay, if you’d like. Do you want another drink?’ He offered kindly, motioning to the mini bar.
‘I’m good, thanks. I don’t know how I’ve been able to stomach alcohol as it is.’ I admitted as I stood up to leave.
‘If you’re sure.’ He smiled.
‘I am, thanks… Be careful, Jonathan.’ I went over to him and wasn’t really sure what to do, so I just put my hand out and shook his hand.
‘You too.’ He said quietly as I headed for the door. ‘Though, you might want to re-think your decision.’
I frowned and turned back to him. ‘What do you mean?’
Jonathan was pouring himself a drink, he smirked and looked over at me. ‘I don’t think you want to leave. It might not be the best decision.’
‘Again, what do you mean?’ I asked, getting slightly irritated.
He shrugged and leaned against the desk, taking a sip from his drink. Not answering me. There was a weird, sudden shift in the atmosphere that made me feel very uneasy.
I’d had enough, I said bye again and this time I headed straight out the door. But as soon as I stepped outside, I was faced with Roper and his two right hand men. Frisky and Tabby.
‘Running away like a scared little kitten, now she got the cream.’ Roper grinned. ‘Or is this something else?’ He asked knowingly.
My eyes widened and I stepped backwards, but I bumped right into a very firm body. Jonathan. I turned to look up at him, pleading him with my eyes for help. But he had a wicked grin on his face as his long fingers circled around my wrist tightly, making sure I wasn’t going anywhere.
‘What… What’s going on?’ I looked between them all in fear.
‘I did tell you to stick with me, pet.’ Jonathan chuckled and smoothed my hair out of the way, then he wrapped his hand around the back of my neck. ‘Now be a good girl and hand over your handbag to Tabby.’
Tabby stepped forward and put his hand out expectantly. My hand was shaking as I passed it to him. He fished around and pulled everything out, including the envelope that Jonathan had given me. At first I felt panic, for Jonathan too, but then when he opened the envelope and pulled out blank pieces of paper, I was so confused.
Roper took my purse and pulled out my driver’s license. ‘Who are you, exactly?’ He asked, studying it.
‘Angela Burr’s niece.’ Jonathan answered for me.
Why was he doing this? What the hell was going on?
‘Ah, that delightful intelligence officer who has been trying for years to take me down.’ Roper chuckled and pocketed my license.
My phone was then pulled out from my bag, Tabby dropped it and proceeded to crush it under his boot. I let out a small whine at that. And I couldn’t stop myself from shaking in utter fear.
‘Shhh, shhh, pet. You’re in enough trouble as it is, best you keep quiet.’ Jonathan purred, rubbing his thumb up and down my neck. He still had a firm hold of my wrist, too. Which I had a feeling would be bruised afterwards.
Roper sighed and crossed his arms over his chest. ‘What to do with you? Hmm?’ He stared at me intently, I looked down as I couldn’t bare to keep eye contact with the terrifying man. ‘She’s been on your arm for the night, Birch. I’m going to let you decide what you want to do with her.’
I felt Jonathan squeeze my neck. ‘I want to keep this one. It’s about time I had someone to keep my bed warm.’ He growled and buried his nose into my hair.
I felt my stomach drop. At least being killed would’ve been an easier way out.
Roper laughed and patted Jonathan on the shoulder. ‘Alright, Birch. You can keep her. Make sure you inform her of the rules and consequences. She’s your responsibility now.’
Jonathan turned me around and pushed me back into his room, he kicked the door shut and locked it behind us. I made a beeline for the balcony, but the sliding doors were locked.
He chuckled as he followed me. I tried to run past him again towards the door once more, but he grabbed me and easily managed to over power me as he forced me down onto the bed underneath him.
His hands tugged and tore at my dress, making me cry out as I struggled against him.
‘No need to cry, pet. I can get plenty more pretty dresses for you to wear in the morning. In the meantime, you aren’t going to need any clothes.’ He growled and forced his mouth on mine, almost choking me with his tongue.
I cried and continued trying to hit him, but he flipped me over onto my stomach and with a hand at the back of my head, he forced my face right down into the bed. My muffled screams didn’t bother him at all as he continued to tear at my clothes until I was completely naked.
‘Ohhh, yes. How lovely, it’s been so long since I’ve had a good fuck.’ He took a fistful of my hair and tugged hard, forcing my head back as he pressed against me. I could just see his face at the side of me. ‘I bet your pussy is nice and tight, but it won’t be for long once I’ve had my way with you.’
My arms flailed about at my sides, but I couldn’t do anything from the position he had me in. It only got worse when he pulled his cock free and moved himself between my legs, forcing them wide open around him.
‘Please! Don’t do this! I won’t tell anyone anything, just let me go!’ I cried and begged, even muffled though he could make out what I was saying.
But he didn’t care. Not much of a gentleman at all, it was all a façade.
When I felt his fingers starting to stroke around my pussy I started struggling again anew, trying harder to get away. But he still had a tight hold of my hair and in response to my struggling he tugged hard, bending my neck backwards so I was forced to look at him from upside down.
‘You can struggle all you want, pet. You’re mine now.’ He rudely shoved two fingers into me, curling them and finding my g spot almost instantly. Making me curse him internally as my body started responding to him in a way I didn’t want it to.
And it only got worse when his thumb captured my clit.
Jonathan forced me to cum on his long fingers, making me whimper in defeat. I knew I was not going to get out of this, I wasn’t going to get an option at all. And he made it even clearer as he lined up with me and I felt his cock start to slide into me.
I tried clenching my muscles, to stop him. But it only fuelled him on more as he pushed harder, until he was deep within me. Where I really didn’t want him to be.
He forced my face back down into the bed, making it difficult for me to breathe as he started ramming into me like an animal in heat. Like it really had been a long time since he’d gotten laid!
He moaned and grunted like mad above me as he fucked me hard, his grip in my hair became tighter and tighter, if even possible. My scalp was burning so badly I felt like my hair was going to fall out.
Whilst I was terrified, angry, upset… My body was acting in ways it shouldn’t. It was reacting well to the assault, to the large cock that was currently filling me up better than anyone else had before. But I was still mortified and hysterical when he reached his peak inside me. I had hoped he might’ve at least pulled out, but no. He filled me with his seed, marking me from the inside.
And he marked me on the outside too, he bit down so hard on my shoulder. Making me cry out as his teeth sank into me roughly.
After having his fill, he pulled out and rolled off me to my side, panting in exhaustion. I was too scared to move at first, but then I managed to get myself together and I shot up, made a move to get off the bed.
‘Don’t even think about trying to sneak out, Tabby and Frisky are on duty all the time in the corridors.’ He warned me.
I paused with my legs over the side of the bed. Tears streaming down my cheeks. ‘Why?’ I asked, my voice hoarse from all the shouting and screaming.
I jumped when I felt his fingers trail down my spine. ‘Because you’re far too delightful to let go, pet. That’s why. And you know, this lifestyle is far too wonderful to let go... If you’re a good girl and learn to behave, you’ll soon learn that too.’

part ii
“I have travelled many miles, I don't wanna walk no more Every road and every highway led me right back to your door” -lord huron
Jake was pretty sure he’d never seen Alina nervous before. Normally she was the quintessential Russian: serious, blank face that belied nothing about how she was feeling. But right now she was tapping her foot nervously and gnawing on her bottom lip. Her hair was up in a little half ponytail thing and he forgot he usually only saw her in scrubs, his sweats or a mini dress for a night out. This version of Alina was softer, not as sexy as ‘club Alina’ but he thought he might like it better. She had on a pair of ripped jeans with a loose cardigan buttoned up, cutting in a low v on her chest. They didn’t speak much in the car ride over but Jake kept a hand on her knee, rubbing at the bare skin he could get to.
When she’d showed up at his apartment after getting ready, she shoved a bottle of wine into his hand and anxiously asked if he thought it would be good enough. Jake had managed to make her laugh when he’d snorted at her, asking how it was she thought he would know what wine was good or not.
That same bottle was now being grasped tightly in one hand, her other squeezing at his thigh tightly.
“Ease up, Leenie – you’re gonna leave a mark.” He teased, tapping her hand softly.
“Oh! Sorry, Jed.” But she didn’t loosen her grip much and he just let her keep clinging to him. He realized while she was usually a blank face to everyone around her, lately – more often than not – she was completely and purely herself around him. It’s like a wall that had been blocking back emotions before had come down and now everything she thought played clearly on her face for him to see. But only for him.
It wasn’t a long ride to get to Charlie’s and when they pulled up, Jake went to climb out of the car but realized that Alina was still sitting quietly in the back seat.
“Maybe you should just go without me. I can have him take me back home.” She nodded at the driver who was frowning and looked like he was a minute away from yelling at them to get in or out.
“Nope.” Jake responded, reaching into the car and physically dragging her out. She stumbled slightly as she hit the curb and he managed to shut the door to the car mere seconds before the driver pulled away.
“Jake…” she practically whined. “They don’t like me. I should just go, you’ll have a better time without me.”
“Leenie, if you don’t go, I’m sure as hell not going. I spend all my time with these idiots, I want to be wherever you are.” The hesitance remained on her face and he stepped closer to her, wrapping his arms around her waist. “If you really don’t want to go, we’ll go home. Or out to dinner. Whatever you want. Ride or die.”
That earned him a giggle. “Ride or die?”
“I’m your ride or die, whatever you want, we’ll do.” He nodded seriously until she finally gave him a smile, her facing turning determined.
“Okay. We’ll go. But if they’re not nice to you, I’m gonna let ‘em have it.”
“I expect nothing less.” He teased, pressing a quick kiss to her forehead. Forehead kisses had become more and more frequent. As had holding hands, cuddling and the way Alina would nudge her nose into his neck, brushing her lashes against his skin. At this point, they were more affectionate than he’d been with any previous girlfriend.
It still wasn’t enough but he instinctively knew he needed to go slow, knew that he couldn’t risk pushing her into something she wasn’t ready for. Shit, he wasn’t even sure if she felt the same as he did. All he had was a ‘feeling’ that things between them were different, that they were out of the sure footing that had been their friendship and in some weird limbo zone where they were both trying to figure out what the other wanted.
Sighing to himself, he took her free hand and pulled her towards Charlie’s building. He had forgotten to ask exactly who was going to be there and now that they were in the elevator, he felt a little panicky about what they were walking into.
While he’d deny it to her, he knew Alina wasn’t his friends’ favorite. And her desire to protect him meant she overreacted to the smallest chirp that was thrown his way even when it didn’t bother him. He only hoped that tonight would go okay.
Walking into Charlie’s apartment, Jake immediately felt like this was the wrong decision. There were at least eight couples and some of the girls were looking at Alina critically, from the bottle of wine in her hand to the way she was clinging onto Jake. Looking friendly wasn’t something Alina excelled at so the stoic look that Jake knew came from a place of nervousness or shyness, instead made her look like a mega bitch.
He squeezed her hand gently and turned his face into her ear. “Smile, babe. You look entirely too Russian right now.”
Alina snorted, squeezing his hand back and relaxing slightly, smiling at him. “It’s just my face, I can’t help it.”
Jake rolled his eyes, dropping her hand and placing it on her lower back to lead her through the room. He wanted to find Charlie and, more importantly, Charlie’s girlfriend. Kiley was one of the sweetest girls he knew and had always been kind to Alina, usually the only one she’d talk to while waiting for him after games.
Walking into the kitchen, he found the hosts putting the finishing touch on plates of charcuterie. And really, that just meant they were unwrapping the clearly pre-made platters.
“So much for doing the heavy lifting,” Jake teased, bundling Kiley up into a big hug. Charlie hit him but stepped around him to pull Alina into a hug. Jake noticed her stiffen slightly but return the hug before pulling away quickly.
“Ki – you remember Alina.” Jake gestured, returning to her side and throwing an arm around her shoulders.
“Of course! Welcome.” She pulled her into a hug before accepting the offered bottle of wine. “Oh wow, this is really nice – you shouldn’t have.”
Alina flushed slightly, waving a hand dismissively. “It was always one of my favorites so I thought I’d share.”
“Well thank you.” Kiley said sincerely and Jake couldn’t help smiling at her. Charlie really had found a good one. “I say we open this in here and just save it for the two of us.”
“Great idea.” She grinned back conspiratorially. “Can I help with anything?”
“Grab a few glasses, yeah? And are you any good at opening wine?”
“Am I ever!” she responded, grabbing a wine key and getting to work on the wine she’d brought. “I used to work in my Dedushka’s restaurant, if you fucked up the bottle, you had to pay for it but you also got to drink it.”
Kiley grinned at the story, taking it at face value but Jake’s head shot up at the sound of her talking about being younger. He’d never once heard her mention anything about working in a restaurant.
“What’s a ‘dad-kush-kah’?” Charlie asked earning a little smile from Alina who promptly corrected his pronunciation.
“Grandfather.” She got a little faraway look in her eyes but quickly returned to the task at hand.
“Come on, man – come say hi to the rest of the guys.” Charlie tried to shove him back in the direction of the living room but he dug his heels in, twirling around to escape and slide next to Alina.
He wrapped an arm around her waist, leaning down so only she could hear him. “You okay? I can stay with you.”
It looked like she was thinking about it, her gray eyes searching his before she shook her head slightly. “Go on, I’m good – I’ll be a wine opening maniac.”
Instinctively, he pressed a kiss to her temple and ignored the look that Charlie and Kiley exchanged before following Chuck into the living room. He greeted his teammates and their significant others, smiling good-naturedly as the boys all yelled his name or teased him about one thing or another. He was just happy that Alina didn’t hear them or she’d end up lighting them up in his defense.
He managed to stay in the room for all of fourteen minutes before drifting back into the kitchen. Despite Charlie saying it was going to be just couples, a few of the girlfriends had brought friends and he got the distinct feeling Charlie Coyle’s girlfriend was trying to set him up with one of them. He walked back into the kitchen to find Alina perched on the counter, chatting animatedly with Kiley. He paused in the doorway to watch her as she gestured dramatically with one hand, large glass of wine in the other, only pausing her story to take a long sip and accept a piece of cheese that Ki had handed her. The sweater she had on had slipped off one shoulder and he eyed the bare skin greedily, aching to touch her.
It was a relief to see her getting along with at least one of the girls, a light floaty feeling filled him at the sight. Baby steps, he told himself, baby steps.
Eventually, he couldn’t resist interrupting, moving towards Alina and fitting himself between her legs. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and rested her head on the top of his while continuing to talk to Kiley.
“But yeah, I’m super lucky the other nurses are so experienced and are actually super sweet. Have you been doing nights or days?”
The two girls continued the conversation around him like he hadn’t even joined and he contented himself with sharing Alina’s glass of wine and helping himself to one of the smaller trays that hadn’t been circulated out into the living room yet. They spent the better part of an hour in there, switching to a different bottle when Alina’s fancy one had been finished.
“If you’re not gonna get your own glass, you have to be the refill bitch.”  She muttered in his ear, pressing an errant kiss to the side of his head before refocusing on whatever Kiley was saying to her.
He pushed back from the counter to refill from a new bottle, pouring it nearly to the brim before returning to his position. A couple other girls had wandered in to join them and Jake felt Alina stiffen slightly as the kitchen got more crowded.
Ohh, boujee! Who brought this?” one of the girls cooed, picking up the now empty bottle that Alina had brought. “This is like 200 bucks.”
Surprised, he turned to catch Alina’s eye but she avoided his stare, cheeks flushing at the attention.
“JD’s gir – uh, neighbor brought it.” Kiley answered. Half a dozen people turned to look at Alina who just waved awkwardly and tightened her grip on him.
“That was – ” one of the girls who Jake was pretty sure was a friend of a friend paused to eye the way Alina and Jake were tangled together before continuing, “Generous of you, Jake.”
He knew what she was doing. It was something all the guys had to deal with: girls that wanted to be with a player because of the money. And if a girl was like that she usually assumed all the others were. Jake flushed with anger, opening his mouth to respond but Alina beat him to it.
“Actually, I bought it myself.” She answered stiffly, tugging the glass from Jake’s hand to take a sip.
The kitchen felt ice cold and tense, nothing like it had been when it had just been Kiley and Alina chatting. Thankfully, Chuck and Gryz came flying into the room shouting about everyone going into the living room. The girls that had just come in exchanged looks before turning to go while Alina stayed put. Kiley shot the two of them a concerned look but grabbed a few things to bring into the living room, leaving them alone.
He turned around so he could face her, placing a hand on either side of her body and leaning his forehead against hers. “Leen, ignore them.”
“I told you your friends hated me.” She mumbled, refusing to meet his eyes.
“Those are absolutely not my friends.” He nudged her nose with his. “Do you wanna go? I told you, the second you want to leave, we can.”
She was quiet for a second, fingers trailing along the sliver of skin between his shirt collar and hair. He practically melted into her at the sensation. “No, no – I need to be nicer. I do want your friends to like me…”
“How bout this: we spend another hour or so here, drink a bit more fancy wine and eat some cheese then we’ll go out to dinner – just you and me.”
That earned him a smile and her eyes brightened for the first time that night. “You’d do that for me?”
He sighed, feeling the wine loosen his tongue slightly. “Leenie, when’re you gonna learn I’d do anything for you?”
“I don’t deserve you, Jed.” She mumbled, staring straight at him, her eyes serious and intense.
“We’re not gonna do our little argument about who deserves who.” He teased but she stayed serious, eyes dropping slightly to his lips.
“Jake, I – ” he wasn’t sure what she was going to say, he wasn’t sure if she even knew because she cut herself off.
Instead, she leaned forward and pressed her lips gently to his. It caught him so off-guard he hesitated for a second but thankfully his instinct kicked in before she could pull back in embarrassment and he caught the back of back of her head, pulling her in closer.
It was like everything he’d been dreaming about but better. Alina tasted sweet like honey, her mouth hot on his as she wrapped her arms around him tightly. He wound the hand not buried in her hair around her waist, tucking up under her sweater to press his palm against her skin.
Reluctantly, she pulled back, staring at him seriously. “I’m sorry.”
“Why the fuck are you sorry, Leen? Do you have any idea how long I’ve wanted to do that?”
She giggled, sliding off the counter and burying her face into his chest before turning up to look at him. “You still wanna stay?” she teased, eyes sparkling.
“Fuck,” he grumbled into the top of her head. “I really really don’t but we should.”
Just as he was leaning down to steal another kiss, Charlie bounced back into the room. “Heyo, what’re you two doing? Come have some more wine before we have to switch to the boxed stuff.”
He stared at the two of them, tangled around each other and faces flushed but that didn’t stop him from continuing to egg them on about moving into the living room with the rest of the party.
“Alright, alright – we’re coming!” he yelled over his shoulder finally, shooting him a dirty look for interrupting. He turned back to face Alina, resting his head against hers. “Maybe we’ll stay for like twenty minutes?”
Smirking, she stood on tiptoe to press the lightest kiss to his lips before moving around him to go into the living room. He scurried behind her to follow, catching up easily. He wrapped his arm around her waist, feeling her relax at his touch. The move wasn’t lost on nearly everyone in the room. While officially Alina had been introduced as his neighbor, he was pretty sure a blind person could see the way he was touching her and staring at her and refusing to be farther than an inch away from her.
Alina remained controlled with her drinking, sipping wine slower than she had been drinking lately and that in and of itself felt like a victory. She did relax slightly but Jake noticed how she tended to stay close to him or Kiley. If she was ever talking to another of the girls, Kiley was also involved and if she moved along, Alina would do the same after a minute or so. She’d finally settled into a conversation with Charlie Coyle and his girlfriend leaving Jake to talk to a few other people while still keeping a close eye on her.
He desperately wanted to leave, wanted to get her alone so they could talk or make out or do more, he didn’t know. But he also wanted to give her the chance to get along with the group because he was hoping she’d be part of it soon.
“Slim! My guy! You crash any cars lately?” Khuls came blazing in loudly and Jake noticed Alina’s eyes shooting over and narrowing at the words.
He rubbed at his neck, “Er, not lately, man.”
Once the can was open, a few of the other guys started to chirp him, mostly around if he was going to grow a mullet again this year or if he’d been working out instead of going to McDonalds every night. He kept glancing over at Alina who was back to Russian Bitch Face and he was worried about what was about to come next if the guys didn’t stop.
And sure enough, Karson said something else about his driving and then Alina was at his side, threading her fingers with his. There was barely contained rage on her face but she seemed to swallow it down, instead squeezing his hand tightly.
Standing on tiptoe, she pressed her lips to his ear. “I’m ready to go if you are.”
He knew she was trying to make an effort, trying to get his friends to like her and in this case that meant not saying a word to them when they were chirping him.
He knew his face gave away everything when he looked down at her with a goofy smile. “Yeah, Leens – let’s go.”
“You guys are leaving already?” Kiley pouted and rather than admit Alina had just about had enough of being around so many people she wasn’t comfortable with he shrugged, swinging their clasped hands lightly.
“Sorry, Ki – we have late dinner plans.”
“Where are you going?” the girl that had been bitchy about the wine Alina had brought cut in and Jake was never outwardly rude so he just gave her a tight smile.
“Committee, down by the waterfront near our place.” He liked saying ‘our place’ like they lived together for real instead of just in the same building. “It’s Leenie’s favorite.” He added to get this girl to realize Alina wasn’t just some random girl that he’d brought out for a good time.
“Nice.” Chuck gave a reassuring nod, seeming to understand that it was time for them to leave. “Thanks for coming, bro.”
They made their goodbyes as quickly as possible but it still took about fifteen minutes to get out of there. By the time they were heading down the hall, Jake was thrumming with energy at getting to be alone with Alina. As they stepped into the elevator and the doors slid shut, Alina was wrapping herself around his body and pulling him to her lips for a soft kiss.
He pulled back, grinning down at her. “Do you actually want dinner?” he teased and she flushed slightly before smacking his stomach.
“I’m a classy lady, I need dinner first.” She smirked back at him, stepping up for another kiss but he pulled back so she couldn’t reach him.
“You know this is more than that, eh?” He paused, serious as he brushed her hair back off her shoulders.
She squeezed his waist, tucking one hand under his t-shirt and tugging on the belt loop with her other. “If it was just that, I would’ve taken advantage of the four times I’ve woken up to your hard cock poking me in the ass.”
“Fuck,” he groaned, flushing red and feeling his body overheat at her words. “You noticed that?”
“Jesus – yeah. I noticed it.” Now she was flushing, biting on her lip teasingly and trailing her fingers down his torso. “But yeah, Jakey – let’s go to dinner first.”
She seemed to have timed it perfectly, winking up at him just as the elevator door slid open and then she slinked out, heading towards their waiting Uber, leaving Jake shaking his head like a puppy. Before the doors could close on him he hurried after her, catching her around the waist just as she was opening the car door and he hustled them inside.
The couple glasses of wine they’d both drank seemed to have made them both more relaxed and Jake spent the ride back to South Boston contenting himself with sweet, slow kisses and brushing his fingers along the waistband of her jeans. He was aching just thinking about what it would be like when they got home. It was tempting to just race home and throw her on the mattress but Jake wanted to talk about it first. Make sure this wasn’t a rebound or a hookup. He knew he wouldn’t be able to take it if they weren’t on the same page.
By the time they got to the restaurant, Jake was half hard and regretting his plan to go through dinner. The Uber driver had given them a sharp warning to stop getting handsy and Alina had just replied back in Russian angrily which seemed to scare him into leaving them alone.
They were both happy it was a Tuesday and the restaurant was only half full. Jake requested a table in the back corner and while he’d always made fun of couples that sat on the same side, it was impossible to separate himself from being close to her. So he slid in next to her, crowding into her space until she was playfully trying to push him away.
“What?” he asked, ducking in close so he could kiss her. “You think I can sit all the way over there when you’re here looking like that?”
“Like what?” she teased.
“How you always do,” Jake shrugged. “Perfect.”
Alina flushed and Jake was pretty sure he’d never seen her blush as much as she had tonight. She slid her hand along his thigh, dancing her fingertips up along his leg until he was inhaling sharply and caught her wrist with his hand.
“Why won’t you let me play?” she teased, pressing her face against his neck.
Jake had to take in a few deep calming breaths and he felt grateful when the server stopped by. They ordered cocktails and an appetizer but he didn’t think the two of them had the patience for actual dinner.
As soon as the server walked away, Alina was back to teasing her fingers along his leg and he had to get hold of the situation before he wasn’t able to think straight.
“Leenie…can we talk? For just a minute?”
She frowned slightly, pulling back when she realized he was being serious. “Um, of course. I just – you want this too, right?”
The question caught him so off-guard he was quiet for a beat too long. Alina looked up at him sadly, biting hard on her lower lip. He panicked slightly, turning to face her so he could hold her face and she couldn’t avoid his stare.
“Alina,” he started seriously. “I want this. I want you. But I also want more.”
He held his breath, waiting for his words to sink in. She was gripping on to his wrist tightly, eyes scanning his nervously. “Like…you like me?”
He huffed a breath out. How could she not know?
“Yeah, Leens. I like you. A lot. Like a lot a lot.”
“A lot a lot?”
“More than you could know.” He admitted, heart pounding in his chest. He’d watched Alina go through a traumatic relationship and he liked to think he’d helped her start to heal. Over the last year and a bit of knowing her, he’d fallen hard and stupid but it had felt like she’d been right there with him.
She opened her mouth to respond but shut it, looking shier than he’d ever seen her before. It felt like she was quiet for hours until she finally spoke.
“I – I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about someone before.” She admitted quietly, rubbing her thumb along the underside of his wrist. “I’m – shit…I’m not easy and kind of a disaster but you make me feel good; feel like someone that deserves to be loved. I want to try this. I want to be with you if you want to be with me.”
“We’ll go slow. I don’t want to push you but I need you to know I’m not gonna give up or go away just because you get a little too drunk one night or you yell at half my friends.” He teased slightly and she gave a watery little chuckle.
“Can we still have sex tonight though?” she asked and he choked on air, glaring at her when she started laughing.
“I might hold out on you just for that.” He answered with zero truth in his words. She raised one eyebrow and just leaned back without a word before he huffed a sigh. “Yeah okay, there’s no way I’m ever going to deny you anything.”
It was obvious he wasn’t just talking about tonight and instead of speaking, Alina just leaned forward to kiss him gently.
Their drinks arrived and then the food shortly after while the two of them went back to their normal relationship, joking and teasing each other except this time there were kisses and sly touches mixed in. Jake felt like he was floating. It was everything he’d been wanting for more than a year and it was better than he’d ever imagined.
Before the server could even ask if they wanted more food or drinks, Jake was sliding his credit card over. All he wanted was to get Alina alone. The restaurant was only a block away from their building and as soon as the check was signed, he was bundling her out the door and practically dragging her along as they walked.
Alina giggled behind him and he just squeezed her hand tighter. “I’m not gonna run away from you, Jed.”
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned about you it’s that you’re a drunk runner.”
“Trust me,” she started to say and he glanced over at her, drinking in the happy glow around her and the way her eyes were sparkling back at him. “I’m not running away from this.”
--- ---
“Holy shit.” Jake exhaled into Alina’s neck as he tried to catch his breath.
He’d collapsed on top of her and he could feel her still pulsing around him and her heart racing. He lifted his head to see her staring back at him, eyes soft and a happy little smile playing on her kiss-bruised lips. She ran a hand through his hair as he finally rolled off of her, hissing slightly at the loss of her around him.
“We’ve been cuddling for weeks when we could’ve been doing that?” she whispered, rolling into him so she could wrap around his body. He lifted his arm up to hold her close, smirking and pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“To be fair, I’ve been thinking about doing that for more than a year.”
“Oh?” she raised an eyebrow at him. “And how did you prepare? Watch some game tape?”
He threw his head back with a laugh, sliding a hand down her side to land on her ass. “Lotta nights alone in hotel rooms thinking about what I’d do if I had you in my bed.”
“Did it live up to your expectations?”
“Not even a little.” He answered, grinning at the glare she gave him. Before she could say anything he tilted her head up to catch her lips in another kiss then pulled back. “It was a million times better.”
They fell quiet, content to stay cuddled up in the little cocoon they’d made. Alina’s bed was a massive king but they stayed on top of each other, the sheets tangled around them. Jake felt like he was moving through a dream. Last night he had been arguing with his teammates about Alina and how they were ‘just friends’ and now he was in her bed with her naked body pressed against him, trailing her fingers up and down his stomach gently. He traced the length of her spine, a little smile playing on his lips.
He stared down at her, eyes drinking in her features. There was a little birthmark he’d never noticed right on her temple. Her hair was a mess, the dark waves tickling his arm. She was staring across the room sleepily, eyes hooded and a satisfied little smile on her lips. The warmth of her body and the way she was distractedly running her fingers along his skin was making him sleepy. Eventually, her movements slowed and they both dropped off to sleep.
The next thing Jake knew a loud banging was startling the two of them awake. Alina shot up into a sitting position next to him, blinking awake and alert faster than he was. The banging continued, coupled with muffled yelling.
Frantically, she rolled out of the bed, grabbing her phone before snagging his button down and pulling it on as she hurried out of the room.
“Fuck.” Jake hissed, jumping out to follow her only pausing to grab a pair of shorts he’d left at some point.
The banging was deafening in the living room, shouts coming through the door and it wasn’t hard to guess who was out there based on the language and the sheer fear on Alina’s face.
“Baby, let me – ” he moved towards the door but she got between him, pushing back on his chest.
She started to yell back through the door in Russian, clearly telling her ex to go away but he just kept pounding loudly. It was nearly three in the morning and he was going to wake up the neighbors if he didn’t leave soon. Nothing she was saying was working and Jake felt helpless. There was pure fear etched on her face and he stepped behind her to place a calming hand on her back.
“Do you want me to call the police?” it was the only thing he could think of except opening the door and telling him to fuck off himself. He was bigger than her ex but he’d always noticed there was something unhinged that reflected in his eyes. But if it meant protecting Alina, he’d go toe to toe with the guy.
“Yes – no – shit, they never help. I’ll just – I – fuck. I’m going to open the door but keep the chain on. He – he’s yelling about you.” She whispered at him, panic and fear overwhelming her momentarily and some of what she said made no sense. “There’s something on Instagram?”
Jake paled wondering what the fuck could’ve been posted in the last few hours to put this guy in a rage. He could only imagine that it wasn’t good.
Alina cracked the door slightly, hissing back in Russian as her ex pushed hard against the door trying to snap the chain. She jumped back in fear and there was zero-way Jake was going to let this continue.
He stepped forward, pushing Alina behind him. The second her ex caught his eye, his face turned red and he shook the door harder.
“Stay fuck away Alinochka.” His words were followed by another hard bang as he tried to muscle through the chain.
“You need to leave.” Jake shot back, forgetting he was standing in just a pair of shorts while Alina was wearing his shirt which was only making the guy angrier.
He switched back to Russian, yelling angrily at Alina who was responding but her voice was shaking.
“Leen – this isn’t okay, I’m getting rid of him.”
The fear grew on her face and she grabbed his arm frantically. “Jake, no. You can’t get into a fight because of me.”
“He’s a piece of shit, I don’t want him anywhere near you.” He squeezed her arm softly before turning back to the door and inhaling deeply, trying to control his own temper. He threw the door open and thankfully her ex was smaller than he remembered. Definitely still an angry maniac who hit women but Jake was stronger.
Her ex tried to barrel through the door, attempting to get by him and to Alina, shoving into Jake who pushed him back. “Not gonna say it again, man. Get the fuck out of here. And don’t fucking come back.”
He tried again to get past Jake who muscled him back. He had tunnel vision, entirely focused on getting her ex the fuck away from her. He really didn’t want to get into a fist fight in the middle of the night but he would if it meant keeping her safe. Another shove and this time Jake was knocked back into the apartment. Alina gave a little shriek of panic and he heard her on the phone, giving their address and begging for someone to come quickly.
Again, her ex barreled towards him and this time, caught him around the waist. Jake fell back with a thud and just barely had time to get his arm up to protect himself from a punch. The second one landed, cracking him dully on the side of the head. Going off instinct, he pushed his hands on his chest, shoving as hard as he could to get him off of him.
The move managed to allow him to scramble up and reposition himself in front of Alina who looked like she was having a panic attack. But he barely had time to glance at her before returning his focus to her absolute fucking psycho ex who was preparing to take another swing at him. Ducking from the blow, he managed to hit him squarely in the face, hearing the satisfying crunch of a broken nose. Blood started to drip onto the floor and it slowed him down long enough for two cops to come barreling into the room, one grabbing her ex and the other pushing him back.
One cop tried to get control of the screaming Russian who was spewing blood all over the place while Jake immediately threw his hands up defensively to show he wasn’t doing anything. It only took about thirty seconds for the cops to recognize him.
“Jesus, DeBrusk?” the one that had initially tried to restrain him before realizing he wasn’t the problem. He was an older guy, maybe his dad’s age while the guy trying to hold onto Alina’s ex was younger and beefier, practically a John Cena clone.
“Yeah – can you guys get this asshole away from my girlfriend?” he snarled angrily, stepping over to snag Alina’s hand and pull her close to him. He was trying to calm his breathing, shaking out his hand that was already killing him while pulling her into his side.
“Okay, let’s all calm down here. Jesus – does this guy speak English?” the other officer said, still struggling to control him.
“Sir, officer, I’m sorry – he does but his English isn’t great.” Alina managed to get out, her voice cracking slightly. “His name is Mikhail Drozdov.”
Mikhail’s eyes flashed dangerously at Alina and he tried again to lunge forward to grab at her.
“None of that.” Officer Cena clone grunted, using one hand to twist Mikhail’s arm back behind him at a painful angle to snag his handcuffs before finally restraining him and plopping him down on the floor. “Stay. Does he understand ‘stay’?”
Alina hissed at Mikhail, her words sounding harsh and bitter. He was still glaring at the way she was tucked protectively into Jake’s side. The longer he was sitting there, the stronger the scent of vodka grew and Jake realized the guy was completely obliterated.
“Now that he’s restrained, can I ask you two a few questions?”
“Yes, sir.” Jake said, turning to his media training. He was going to get lit up by the front office if this got out but he was just happy he’d been here to protect Alina and now he just wanted to focus on getting everyone the fuck out of her apartment. “Can we grab some clothes first?”
The officer smirked at the pair of them in their state of undress. Alina was trying to cover herself and Jake made a point to shield as much of her body as she could.
“Go ahead, kids. We’ll try to interview Igor over here while we wait.”
Jake turned carefully, still keeping her as covered as he could as he nudged her back towards her bedroom. The second they were in the room Alina burst into tears and threw herself into his arms.
“Holy shit, Jake – I’m so sorry. So so fucking sorry.” She rambled into the crook of his neck, her tears soaking into his skin. “I don’t know what happened. He was yelling about something on Instagram? What does that even mean? How did he know we were together?”
Jake’s stomach flipped. Someone from the party had to have posted something that showed the pair of them together. He didn’t think it would be from the restaurant, that would take a lot to find but if it was in the background of one of the guys’ stories, it was possible.
He drew back so he could look at her, pushing her hair off her face and pressing a quick kiss to her nose. “I don’t know, baby. Maybe one of the guys shared something? And we were in the back? I’m sorry, I don’t know what happened.”
“How much trouble are you going to be in?” she asked, focusing her worry on him. It made his heart hurt a little to think about the fact that some asshole had just physically tried to assault her and she was worried about him. Carefully, she brushed at his eye where the punch had landed. “I bet the cops would let you go back to your place. You don’t have to be involved. It’ll just be me and Mikhail.”
“Leen, I’m not leaving you. We didn’t do anything wrong. I’ll talk to Bergy in the morning. He’ll help but right now we have to go talk to them.”
Nervously, she nodded through wide, watery eyes. He hated seeing the terror on her face so he pulled her in for a kiss, pressing his lips to hers and holding her tightly for a long moment. When he released her, they quickly got dressed; Jake pulling on a Bruins sweatshirt of his that Alina had stolen a couple weeks ago while she dragged on a pair of yoga pants while keeping his shirt on. The buttons were crooked and only two of them done up so he paused to carefully fix it for her.
Finally they emerged from her room to find two more cops had arrived and Mikhail still on the floor, spitting an angry stream of Russian at those around him. When he spotted Alina he snarled and tried to move forward.
“Where’d you find this guy?” Cena clone asked, kicking at his leg slightly.
Alina ignored him, walking back towards the first cop they’d talked to. “I’m Alina Agapov.”
“Yes, ma’am. We pulled your info. I’m Sergeant McDonald. Let’s take a seat in the kitchen, okay?” It was like a switch had flipped, the police officer turning into a kindly uncle as he led Alina and Jake towards the kitchen island where the two of them sat down. “Looks like you have an active restraining order against Mr. Drozdov.”
Jake shot a surprised look at Alina. He had no idea that she’d taken her ex to court and he hated himself for not having been around to help her through it. And that she hadn’t trusted him enough to tell him about it.
She swallowed hard, moving closer to Jake and he wrapped his arm around her, letting her lead the conversation.
“Yes, that’s right. We just had the hearing a few weeks ago. He – he’s not supposed to come near me.”
“No, ma’am. We’re going to bring him into the station and hold him. He’ll have the option of bail but the more times he breaks the order, the worse it’ll be.” Sergeant McDonald said softly but his words did nothing to calm Jake’s anger.
“‘More times he breaks it’? What the fuck does that mean – he’ll just keep trying to attack her but bail will go up?”
“Calm down.” He said sharply, shooting Jake a stern look.
Alina squeezed his leg. “Jake, please. It’s okay.”
“No, it fucking isn’t.” He huffed under his breath but fell quiet as they were asked more questions. They recounted the night, explaining that they’d been asleep when Mikhail had showed up screaming then all that had happened to get to this point.
Jake chanced a glance behind him to see two of the officers hauling Mikhail out of the apartment. He sighed slightly, pulling Alina in tighter to him. After another ten minutes of answering questions, the officer finally seemed satisfied and offered a card to Alina.
“This is where we’ll be holding him and that’s where you can get a copy of the report. Recommend you call your lawyer in the morning, he’ll know what to do next.” He looked awkward, unsure of how to deal with a girl that was so clearly emotionally drained and then slid his gaze to Jake. “Listen – we, uh, we don’t have to put your name in the report or anything.”
Surprised, Jake looked at him. “That – that doesn’t seem right. I broke his nose.”
“We can work around that, son. The guy is gonna go to jail regardless, your girl has like seven police reports filed against him so it shouldn’t be a hard decision for the judge.”
The fact that Alina had filed so many reports hit him like a truck. It had clearly been far worse than he’d even realized. In a daze, knowing the cop was giving him an out because of who he was, he looked down at Alina.
“He’s right, Jake – this can fuck things up for you.” She said softly, her gray eyes pleading with him to think about himself.
It didn’t feel right. He was worried if there was anything that wasn’t right in that report, Mikhail would be able to work around it and get back at Alina.
So he shook his head no. “Just – write it as it happened, sir. I’ll sign it or whatever but it should be right.”
Sighing, Sergeant McDonald flipped his notebook closed. “Okay…we’ll do our best to keep it quiet though. And uh, good luck – you’re playing like a beast.”
He gave him a tight smile. The fact that they were talking about his play when a guy had just violently gone after his girlfriend didn’t exactly sit right with him.
But he walked him to the door, saying goodbye to the other cop who was lingering as well, staring curiously at Alina. This had been a nightmare of a night and there was still blood all over the floor. As he shut the door behind them, he leaned against it, tapping his head lightly against the surface.
He squeezed his eyes tightly before turning to face Alina. Her face was pale, quiet tears streaming down her cheeks. He rushed towards her, dragging her into his arms and holding her as she cried.
What a fucking night.
It was almost five in the morning. He had practice in a few hours and he knew he’d need to go in early to let management know about what had happened but right now all he could think about was holding Alina.
He rubbed her back gently, tilting her face up to his. “Baby, let’s go to my place – we can lay down for a bit longer.”
She sniffled, wiping her nose with his sleeve. “This is humiliating. I’m sorry, Jakey. Maybe you should just go – ”
“Stop apologizing. And there’s no way I’m going to leave you. I told you earlier I wasn’t going to give up on you. On us.”
“You called me your girlfriend.” She said softly, hands gripping his waist tightly.
He smiled down at her, “That’s because you are. At least, I want you to be.”
“So much for slow.” She managed to tease through a watery smile. “I like it. I like you.”
“Then come on, girlfriend. Let’s go home.”
Trying to ignore the blood on the floor, he told her he’d call someone to clean it tomorrow when she tried to pause to take care of it. He kept a tight hold on her hand as they walked the length of the hall to get to his apartment. It was quiet and peaceful in his place compared to what they’d just walked out of. He didn’t want to push her but he had more questions than answers at this point. There wasn’t anything she could do that would make him not want to be with her; that didn’t mean she could cut him out and not tell him things.
Alina went straight into his bedroom, pulling him along by his hand. She slid out of her yoga pants but kept his shirt on as she crawled into his bed. He pulled his sweatshirt off then slid in next to her, wrapping around her body.
“Can we talk, Leenie?” he whispered in her ear. “I need you to talk to me.”
She inhaled sharply, sniffling as she did and he felt her shake slightly. He wasn’t sure she’d share but then she started to speak softly. “We – we started dating when I was fifteen. My uh – my parents died when I was ten. That’s why I moved to the States. To be with my Dedushka. He lived in this neighborhood in Brooklyn that was mostly Russian and I met Mikhail there. It just – it was easy to talk to him, he knew what it was like. Leaving home and being in a place where people glared if you fucked up your English.”
Jake felt his heart pounding as she shook slightly in his arms. She pushed back into him to try to get closer and he just hugged her tightly, pressing a kiss to her head as she continued.
“I’d spent five years barely talking to anyone. Too scared to speak until my English was perfect. Then Mikhail showed up. He was always with his dad when they came to my Dedushka’s restaurant. He made me remember where I’d come from. His parents were from the same city I’d grown up in. He was familiar in the most comforting way.”
She paused, trying to catch her breath. Jake ran his fingers down her arm so he could lace their fingers together.
“He wasn’t always so terrible. My Deduskha would’ve kill him, that’s for sure.” She gave a watery little chuckle before continuing. “But then…” she paused and Jake could hear her sniffling again, a little whimper slipping from her lips.
“Baby, come’re.” he whispered against her head, loosening his grip so he could turn him towards him. Her eyes were filled with tears and he used his thumbs to wipe them away. “I’m sorry, if it’s too much – we can talk la – ”
“No,” she said sharper than he expected before her features softened. “I – I know I haven’t shared a lot with you. And you deserve to hear this after tonight.”
He leaned forward to kiss her gently, nudging his nose against hers until she smiled. It was harder for her now, facing him as she spoke. She stayed quiet for a long moment before finally staring up at him and continuing.
“My Dedushka died when I was nineteen. And then it was just me.” She whispered.
Jake swallowed hard. No wonder she never talked about family: she didn’t have any. He rubbed her back lightly as she tried to swallow back her tears.
“He was all I really had left. I’ve never made friends very easily and my whole life was in that little neighborhood in Brooklyn. But…well you saw him. The older he got, the more controlling. He expected us to get married and me to be his little wife and have babies but I didn’t want that.
“I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to see what else was out there beyond the little corner I knew. We made a deal that we would go to Boston for a couple years and if he did that for me, I’d marry him.”
Her voice was so soft, he barely heard her but the words hit him like a truck. The idea that he would’ve never had this made him sick. But he stayed quiet, rubbing her back gently as she talked.
“He got a job in Boston easily with this international accounting firm, managing the Russian relationships. He settled in better than I did – going out with the guys he worked with constantly. I was studying and working so much, exhausted all the time but I noticed how bad his drinking got. He’d come home sometimes just…so fucking angry for no reason. He didn’t get rough until a year or so ago. But it was a pattern I’d seen from Mikhail’s own father. His mama was so…broken. I started to see that becoming my future.
“It just kept getting worse. The cheating. Yelling. The hitting. But then I met you.” She smiled slightly, looking up at him and pressing a quick kiss to his jaw. “And you just…were this light, funny, perfect guy. Who was soft and gentle with me and I started to fall for you but I didn’t know how to get away from Mikhail.”
“I wish I’d – I…” he struggled for the words, feeling lost and a little blindsided. “I didn’t know how to help you.”
“Jake, you did help me.” She swore, brushing his hair back off his forehead. “You couldn’t fix everything, I needed to fix a lot of it myself first. And I made mistakes by letting Mikhail back in so many times but he was my past – the closest thing I had to family and that was hard to let go.”
“Tell me about the restraining order.” He asked softly, bracing himself for how hard it would be to hear what she had to say.
“I did the right thing – the thing you’re supposed to which is report the abuse. So I started to. He was…it was usually the worst when you were out of town. It’s like he waited until you were gone then he’d come over raging like you just saw. I almost got evicted over the summer from the number of times they had to call the cops but the management company was surprisingly good about it.”
“Jesus, Leen – why didn’t you tell me?” Jake asked, trying not to get upset.
Her eyes filled with tears again. “It’s humiliating. All the neighbors hearing him scream at me and throw things then the cops showing up at all hours. I didn’t want you to know that about me.”
“I would’ve come back. I would’ve helped.” He drew her in closer, squeezing her against his chest.
“I know you would’ve, but you deserved your summer. Deserved time with your family and friends.” Her voice was muffled into his chest and she was crying softly again.
“Hey now,” he whispered, grasping her chin to turn her face up to his. “No more crying. Let’s get some sleep, you’re exhausted. This is still the best night of my life.”
That earned him another little laugh as she angled up to kiss him softly. “You haven’t had a very good life then, babe.”
He scoffed. “I’m in the NHL. Very important and cool and do a lot of things. You’re still the best thing I’ve ever done.” He pressed kisses along her face as she giggled and swatted him away.
“Oh, so now I’m just something you’ve done?” she raised an eyebrow at him and he groaned, flopping his head back on the pillow. She kept a smile on her face as she rolled on top of him, straddling his waist.
He caught her hips to keep her steady, rubbing his thumb along her skin. “This is a nice view.”
Leaning back, she grabbed for his right hand. “You okay?” She pressed a kiss to each knuckle, frowning at how red they were before focusing on his face. Gently, she brushed her fingers along his tender cheek. “Do you need ice? I think this is gonna be a black eye.”
“I’m fine. Come’re,” he urged and pulled her down to him so he could thread his hands through her hair to pull her down to his lips. “Want a kiss. Then it’s bedtime.”
“Shit – what time do you have practice?”
“Eleven. I’m gonna go around ten though. I need to talk to Bergy and figure out who to talk to on the team.”
Alina frowned. “I told you I was a train wreck. It’s not too late to – ”
Jake cut her off, leaning forward to kiss her before pulling back. “Leen, I mean this is the nicest way possible – shut up. You’re my girl.”
“Thank you, Jakey.” She whispered, sliding off him and nestling back into his side.
He pressed a kiss to her temple. “Go to sleep, I’ll wake you up before I go.”
She mumbled something in Russian, pressing her lips to his chest and then she was out like a light. He lay awake for a while after she’d fallen asleep, holding her against him and thinking about the night. Everything she’d told him about her life made things so much clearer: the way she was so strong and stubborn yet had continually gone back to an abusive boyfriend, how she never talked about her past or her family. He wished she’d told him sooner but he knew he couldn’t have dragged this out of her until she was ready.
The sun was just starting to peak through the windows when he finally dropped off to sleep, dreading what waited for him at practice later but still happier than he’d been in a long time.

Everything had started so perfect.
You slept in the tent next to the infirmary in Daryl’s arms through the night and in the morning you helped the crew make breakfast. Rick had rode home to Alexandria and there was news on the walkie that food was coming from the hilltop. You grabbed food for yourself and Aaron and headed back to the infirmary.
Aaron was sitting up and talking with Daryl.
“Morning” You announced as you strode into the tent.
“Morning” Daryl said with a smile.
“I’m not looking,” Aaron joked, covering his eyes with his hand.
“Very funny,” You shoved the plate against Aaron and he took it, setting it down on his lap. “So what’s got you bothering my patient, Mr Dixon.”
“Wanted to see how he was doing before I head out for the day” Daryl spoke.
“You get breakfast yet?” You asked
“I don’t need-” Before he could finish you thrust your plate into his hands.
“Eat up. You’ll need it” You said turning back and leaving the tent to get yourself a new plate.
“You sure know how to pick ‘em” Aaron said through a mouthful of food.
“Yeah” Daryl said, getting into his food.
“How’d you meet?” Aaron pressed. Daryl glanced at him in question. “C’mon everyone’s heard how she appeared from thin air and you jumped to her defence.”
“Ya make it sound like a fairy tale” Daryl commented.
“It is.” Aaron replied. Aaron took a bite of some bread and kept staring at Daryl “C’mon you can tell me.”
Daryl thought back on it for a moment. ‘I tried to kill her’ he thought. Now he couldn’t think of hurting you. “Before the winter, me, Tara, and Rick went into DC. I got hurt. We had to camp for the night in this bank.” Daryl spoke through his food. “She walked in, started pulling the place apart. We said stop. She seen I was hurt and offered to help me.” He lost interest in his food for a moment, thinking back to that little apartment in DC that you had fixed up and made a home for yourself. “She was starving. I couldn’t sit by and do nothing, not after she helped me. At first I just brought her the surplus but she insisted on giving me stuff in return. ‘Not gonna leave you short’ she said.” Daryl stopped when he realised how long he had been talking about you, and the soft look Aaron had listening to him. Daryl went back to his food “Can’t let good people suffer”
“She is good.” Aaron spoke, “You should have brought her home sooner.”
“I tried. She wouldn’t come.” Daryl put down his now empty plate. “She don’t like camps or nothin’”
“So she was somewhere bad before” Aaron mused
“She deserves something good.” Daryl spoke “We all do.”
A sudden unrest erupted outside the tent. Daryl got onto his feet and went to investigate, finding the camp filled with angry saviours
“Guess they're gonna execute every last one of us!” a man yelled out “Just like Justin!”
“Not if we have guns, too.” a women called out
“Hey, hey, you guys!” Laura was in the middle of the crowd trying to calm people. “No no no no! No!”
“Come on guys!” Arat yelled trying to make herself heard.
“Hey knock it off!” You yelled from the front of the group trying to calm them down.
All the calls fell on deaf ears and you found yourself trying to push saviours and members of the other community away from each other. Aldin quickly made a dent in the condensing crowd.
“Hey! Hey! Stop this shit! Stop it! Stop it!” He yelled, the two sides coming apart around him “We're gonna find out who did this, and we're gonna make sure it never happens to us again, all right?”
“Us?” Jed stood out from the crowd of saviours. “You're not one of us anymore.”
“‘Us’ means all of us” Aldin spoke, turning his back on the saviours to speak to the rest. Jed immediately grabbed Aldin, spinned him around and punched”
“Go shovel that horse shit to whoever killed Justin!” He pulled back his fist to go for another hit when Carol stepped in front of him, hand on his chest to stop him and the other on her gun ready to pull it out. You felt yourself hold your breath. “I thought you were supposed to be our leader.” he remarked.
“Enough” Carol spoke firm. “Turn around, all of you.”
“No can do, Cee.” He replied, “Why don't you go ahead and yank that roscoe, pop me right here? It's better than worrying about getting it in the back.”
At that Carol pulled out her gun, as did the others standing behind her. You stepped forward and put yourself between the man and Carol.
“There’s no need for that.” You said, hands up defensively.
“We don't want this.” Laura spoke, rallying to your side. “Hey, we just need to protect ourselves.”
“No guns!” Dary yelled. Everyone turned to look at him standing on top of a hill looking over everything that was happening.
“That 'cause you're the one took out Justin?” DJ yelled out. He was a saviour with long hair and a beard.
“Nah.” Another saviour said lower, eyeing up a woman near the front of the opposing crowd. “My money's on garbage lady.”
“Revenge for Simon's play, sure.” Regina said, stirring more trouble.
“No.” DJ replied, not taking his eyes off Daryl. “It's him. Finishing what he started.” He stepped past you and towards a tree, picking up the axe that sat there. Another man followed after him. A woman went to walk past you to them but you put your hand against her chest, whispering “Don’t” in the most intimidating voice you could muster, making her fall back into line.
Arat ran up and step in front of DJ “Hey, stop. It's gonna go too far.”
“Nah.” Daryl spoke “It won't.” He raised his crossbow and pointed it at DJ. You felt your breath catch in your lungs. You had seen how dangerous Daryl was with that bow and weren’t interested in being at it’s business end.
“Maybe it's both of them. Come on.” The long haired man rallied the saviours around him. You tried to hold them back but you were quickly pushed to the back of the group and landed on the ground. The saviours moved forward with only the priest meeting them halfway, ready for the fight. In the last moment Rick came riding in on horseback and the crowd divided.
“Everyone back off! Right now!” He yelled from atop the animal, waving his revolver over the crowd. Arat moved to disarm one of the saviours and Laura took to the martyr.
“All right, we are not doing this.” She spoke firm to Jed then brought her attention to the wider crowd. “Let it go.”
“I'll talk to Rick.” You heard Aldin speak “I'll try and find a way to make everybody feel safe, all right?” The crowd slowly dispersed.
“Start the redirect.” Rick ordered. “Pair off to work the grid.”
In the moments past you pulled yourself off the ground and started dusting yourself off. Laura came to you and pat your back.
“Thanks for trying to hold them back.” She said, Arat arriving behind her shortly after.
“Didn’t help much.” You replied
“No, it helped.” Arat insisted. “These hot heads need to see more of us working with the others.” Arat let out a sigh, then leaned in close to you “If they knew who you were-” she spoke low.
“No.” You interrupted. “They won’t trust me. Someone needs to be on good terms.”
“They got Aldin for that,” Laura commented. “He’s been playing goodie two shoes since the war.”
“Enough gossip,” Arat said. “Boss says the grid needs work. Later.” She patted your back as she took off.
“What’s on your plate?” Laura asked you.
“Get Aaron on the first trip back to Alexandria. He’s just filling a bed here. You?”
Laura looked around at the grumbling saviours, waving to a small group. “Keeping the peace.” You nodded in acknowledgement and you two parted silently.
After setting Aaron up with a small group that would be journeying back and his bed had been cleared you set out looking for Daryl. He had gotten riled up and you wanted to see how he was. A hilltop man pointed you in the direction he’d taken off in.
When you found him he was talking to Rick. Or rather Rick was talking to him.
“Daryl, I know you don't agree with everything we're doing here. All I ask is that you try. Do it. Let people see it. And maybe everyone moves past what's happened to what could happen and maybe, just maybe, it'd be one of the best decisions you ever made.”
“Like not killing a guy who left your brother on a rooftop to die.” Rick walked past you with a nod. He looked so tired yet determined. You walked up to Daryl, who seemed to be caught a little off guard.
“How much of that did you hear?” He asked nervously.
“About the tail end of what seemed like a speech,  if I’m honest.” You stood in front of him, gently placing your hands to his face to make him look at you. “How are you?”
“I didn’t do it,” he uttered, resting a hand atop of yours.
“I know you didn’t.” You reassured him. His arms came around you so naturally and your hands rested on his shoulders.
“I’m sorry you were in the middle of all that.” he continued, low enough that only you heard. “This crap ain’t your problem.”
“It is now.” you said. “‘Sides, your not the first boyfriend to hold a weapon on me.” You chuckled. He paled drastically.
“I am so sor-” you cut him off with a kiss. He held you as close as he could as he kissed you back. You pulled back and smiled at him sweetly.
“We’ll have plenty of time for sorry later. You have grid work to do”
“Wish I didn’t” he said pulling you into him, making you giggle at the implications.
“Go,” you laughed, punctuating it with a kiss and coming away. “I’ll be here”
Daryl left with the group to check the grid and you returned to camp. Being the doctor everyone wanted you nearby at all times. You mainly cleaned up the areas, helped with food, tended to the occasional cut or burn. You found it all delightfully mundane. It was nearing sunset when Enid showed her face.
“You’re late for work.” You said mockingly.
“Sorry” Enid apologised with a yawning, appearing from the tent next to the infirmary. It was promoted from ‘Saddiq’s Tent’ to ‘Doctor’s Tent’ as you and Enid started working in shifts. “I’m not used to the night shifts yet.”
That made you smirk “Hopefully you never have too” You teased with a laugh. She looked away embarrassed. You patted the spot next to you on the boards the infirmary was built on. “Sit down. We’re not exactly burdened with work.”
“What’re ya doing?” Enid sat down next to you, her leg tucked under her.
“People watching.” You explained. “Me and my old man used to do it all the time.”
Enid looked out at the campsite, “Seems kinda dull,”
“You’re doing it wrong then.” You said then pointed to Regina, a female saviour helping unload a recent delivery. “What do you think her deal is?”
“She’s a saviour” Enid spoke plainly. “Who’s unloading tomatoes”
“Nah, nah.” You leaned back on your elbows “You’re not meant to think about the truth. You’re meant to come up with a story of some kind.”
“A story?” Enid questioned. “Sounds childish”
“That’s what makes it fun.” You reply. You pointed at a table of people playing cards. “What about them. What’s their deal?”
“They’re playing cards.” Enid spoke plainly. So it was up to you to make things interesting.
“Ya see the girl with short hair and the tank top?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s Madam De Tank.” You spoke in a theatrical voice, “She owns most of the land and she’s put it on the table against the guy in the chequer.”
“What’s his name?” Enid pressed
“You tell me.” You shot back
She thought for a moment “Joey...Banks”
“Okay.” you said tongue in cheek. “What’s he put on the table?” Enid sat in silence a moment, then turned to you with a childish smile.
“His first born child!” She announced, equally theatrical. You both chuckled at the absurdity. Laura appeared, dirty from work.
“What’s all the fun?” She asked, taking a seat next to Enid.
“People watching.” Enid replied. “The third guy?”
“That’s Joey Banks’ assistant. He does all the things Joey doesn’t want to do. Like open doors or hold his cup.” You jested
“I hate to break this up but we need to talk.” Laura said to you. Enid went to excuse herself but you sat up and beckoned her to stay.
“Anything you gotta say to me, you can say to Enid.” You said. ‘Because you approached me in front of here and we need to keep a low profile’ you thought.
Laura looked from you to Enid and backed to you, a little unsure. “It’s the saviours,” she ultimately said. “We can’t find Arat.”
You sat forward and turned your body to face Laura, tucking your leg in, “What do you mean? She’s out checking the grids”
“The grid team came back.-”
“Where are they?” You interrupted. Afterall, Daryl and Arat were with the grid team.
“They left again, all quiet like.” Laura explained.
“They’re probably doing the night watch.” Enid interjected. You backed her up, saying it would be logical.
“That’s what I was saying but,” Laura explained then went quiet for a moment. “They think something might have happened. There’s talk of abandoning camp.”
“You can’t do that!” Enid panicked.
“They’re scared, Enid.” You said, her attention flicking back to you. “We have no guns and saviours have been going missing for a month now. At least at sanctuary there’s walls and they know each other.” You looked to Laura seriously “But that’s all we have. There’s no food. No real security and most of the building has been abandoned. It’s a prison.” The last sentence rolled off your tongue before you realised it, but it was no less the truth. “We need this bridge”
“I know,” Laura sighed. “I’m tryna talk to them but…”
The tension hung tight in the air among the three of you. “Sunset’s beautiful” Enid finally broke the silence. You looked over the trees seeing the warm hues sink behind them.
As the last few rays dimmed you stood up. “Guess we just gotta hope.” You said, sounding helpless. You turned to Enid in that moment. “Enid, umm...maybe”
“Not a word,” Enid stood up as the dinner bell rang. “I know.”
“Let’s eat!” Laura announced as she stood up. “I heard we got fresh tomatoes tonight.”
Later that evening Carol and Rick brought back a stabbed man who you stitched up. When questioned how it happened the man gave no reply. You stitched him up in silence then Rick took him out. You stopped Carol before she could leave, pressing for what had happened.
Carol turned back to you. It was just the two of you in the tent and you’d already developed a history together. She sighed through her nose before speaking. “We got jumped. They wanted our guns and were ready to kill us to get them,”
“Maybe if you gave them a couple-” you began
“That’s not happening now.” Carol replied. She turned to leave again and you grabbed her by the arm to stop her.
“Why were you out there?” you questioned. You released her arm once she stopped. “You’re not on night watch and checking the grid doesn’t take all day.”
“Why do you care?” Carol questioned, seeming already tired of the conversation. This did little but anger you.
“Cause these are our people!” You bit back “Remember?”
Carol nodded solemnly. “You know?”
“There’s suspicion.” You explained. “I just wanna know whether or not it’s founded.”
“Arat is missing” Carol finally said. You stepped back, struggling to process this information. You turned away and leaned on a nearby table, your head reeling. “She and Beatrice got jumped and we’re looking for her.”
This was it. The saviours were going to abandon camp. A few weeks ago you wouldn’t have cared but between working in the sanctuary and working out here you’re heart broke. If they left then the deal would be broken and everyone would suffer. But something didn’t sit right though
“Who’s Beatrice?” You asked.
“She’s from Oceanside.” Carol replied.
“And she was fine? When you found her” You asked.
“Yes. Why?” Carol asked, stepping closer to you.
“It’s weird.” You admit, facing Carol. “All the other saviours went missing all together. The first one who isn’t a saviour is left perfectly fine?”
“A lot happened before you showed up, Y/N.” Carol explained. Sounded like pure excuses to you. Through out the entire conversation she had been staring at you with feigned worry, making your blood boil.
“Get out.” You snapped. “I need you out.” Your voice trembled, showing your upset.
That night you could hardly sleep, your mind was reeling. ‘How did dad deal with this bullshit’ you thought to yourself. You quickly stopped that train of thought when you remembered ‘murder’ was the answer.
That morning you were woken by one of the saviours. “C’mon Doc, we’re leaving!” She shook you. You groggily got out of your bed and went to investigate. Outside was the saviours, with half the camp packed up. You locked eyes with Laura across the camp who just shook her head with defeat.
Jed walked up to you and handed you an empty rucksack. “Grab your shit we’re leaving” he said.
“No,” You replied, pushing the bag back. “I’m not.”
Jed looked at you incredulously, then threw the bag to the ground with temper. “You’re gonna stand by these fucking murderers!”
‘Look who’s talking’ you thought to yourself. “We need this deal, Jed!” You yelled back. “We need the food that the other settlements can provide!” Your yelling caught the attention of a couple of saviours. “I ain’t going back to The Sanctuary until that bridge is done!”
Jed pulled a face then spat at your feet. “Suit yourself.” He retorted then left. In about twenty minutes they had all packed up and were marching out.

Fresh Bruises (Josh Lyman x Reader) Part 3
Tumblr media
Warning this story contains mentions of Domestic Abuse
It was another half an hour to almost an hour before Abby reappeared. Donna had fallen asleep her head resting on Josh’s shoulder. He knew he should be tired, he should be exhausted, it was 3 in the morning, and he had only gotten maybe an hour of sleep the night before. But he couldn’t sleep, he barely blinked because all he could see was Y/N lying motionless in his arms.
“Josh,” Abby started when suddenly a dozen secret service agents came into the waiting area. The staff knew what to do as they quickly ushered everyone in the room to a different waiting room, the commotion waking Donna.
After the room had been secured President Bartlett and Leo walked in, and Josh quickly rose to his feet.
“Sir you didn’t have to come,” He started but Bartlett just pulled him into his embrace.
“Nonsense Josh, have you heard anything?”
“The surgery went well.” Abby said and Bartlett quickly patted Josh on the shoulder with a smile on his face.
“But,” Josh said noticing that Abby’s demeanor wasn’t a happy one.
“But, her head injury was worse than they had originally thought.” Abby said and Josh sat back down looking up at her as a child would look up at a parent.  “She’s in a coma Josh.”
Josh just stared at Abby, mouth agape.
“Oh Josh,” Donna said her voice cracking hard as she wrapped her arms around him, trying her best not to cry.
“What are our options, are their specialists we can see what…” Jed started as he and Abby walked down to talk.
Josh wasn’t sure when Leo sat down next to him, but the next thing he knew Leo was grasping his hand tightly. He didn’t say anything, didn’t try to tell Josh everything was going to be ok. He just sat with him, letting Josh know he was there.
More time passed and Josh hadn’t spoken, hadn’t moved, hadn’t cried since Abby told him the news.
“Josh,” A voice spoke softly and he turned to see Leo still sitting next to him, but now he had a cup of coffee in his hands, Josh noticed there was another cup sitting on the table next to him. “Abby said she doesn’t think there is going to be anymore news for a while, why don’t we take you home so you can shower.”
“No, I have to stay, Y/N might…” Josh wanted to say wake up, but he couldn’t bring himself to because he still hadn’t fully processed everything that was happening.
“Abby is going to stay with Donna, they will be here when we get back, but Josh I think you would feel much better after a shower and a change of clothes.” Leo insisted
For the first time since they had gotten to the hospital, Josh finally looked down at himself. He was covered in blood, his white shirt was stained red and his shaking hands were caked with Y/N’s blood.
Before he even had a chance to say anything else, Leo was pulling him to his feet and ushering him out of the hospital.
Neither of the men tried to speak as they made their way to Leo’s car nore did they speak on the drive to Josh’s apartment.
Josh stayed staring at his hands trying to get them to stop shaking. His breathing was erratic and he was trying not to have a full blown panic attack, but it was incredibly difficult as he sat with the blood from the love of his life covering him.
“Josh,” Leo said as he looked over at him noticing the sound of his breathing. “Josh, you need to breath.”
“What if she doesn’t wake Leo, she is my whole world. I can’t…”
“Don’t think like that Josh, Dr. Bartlett is making sure that we get every specialist in the country on the case. Y/N is going to have nothing but the best care, Jed has insisted on it.”
“The President can’t…” Josh started.
“Josh, you are family, he’s going to do whatever he can to help you.”
The young man couldn’t help but get choked up hearing this. He had always considered the staff of the rest wing and the President to be his family. They had all been through highs and lows together, but actually hearing the word family come out of the Chief of Staffs mouth, really solidified everything.
By the time they had reached the apartment Josh had calmed down. He felt like for the first time that whole evening/morning he could breath.
The two men made their way into the apartment. Josh quickly rushed around picking up the papers and boxes that littered the apartment. He couldn’t remember the last time Leo had been to his place, or if he ever had, but he didn’t want him to see how terribly disorganized he was.
“Josh, I have seen your office, I expected your house to look much worse, Y/N must be a good influence on you.” Leo laughed causing Josh to stop looking back with a smile on his face. “Now go shower and get changed.”
Josh started his way towards the bathroom, but as he passed each room his mind began to flood of the memories he and Y/N had there.
It was 2 am by the time Josh had finally gotten home from work, and instead of going to bed, he immediately made his way to the couch pulling out the files he had brought home, to read over them before he had meetings the next day. He probably had gotten through 10 pages before he was passed out on the couch.
“Josh,” He heard someone whisper but he didn’t move he just kept his eyes closed, his hands barely hanging onto the files. Someone sighed as they reached down to grab the files out of his hands, and then he felt a blanket be placed over him.
In an instant he opened his eyes to see Y/N standing above him and he smiled as he grabbed her waist pulling her on top of him causing her to squeal.
“Why didn’t you come up to bed.” She said as she snuggled into his chest as he wrapped his arms tightly around her.
“I had some stuff I need to finish before my meetings tomorrow.” He yawned kissing the top of her head.
“You know that if you try to read those files this late that you are just going to fall asleep. You always do.” She giggled.
“And you are always there to tuck me in. Maybe that's the real reason I do it.”
“You are quite a frustrating man Joshua Lyman.”
“But you love me none the less.”
“Oh I do love you, I love you so much.” Y/N said looking into his eyes with such love that Josh thought he might cry.
“I love you too Y/N, more than I ever thought possible.” Josh said kissing her.
The two spent the night on the couch, and although he woke up sore, Josh still credited it as one of the best nights of his life.
Josh couldn’t hold back his tears as he continued past the kitchen
“You are not the only one with a career Josh!” Y/N screamed as she turned back to look at the food she had cooking on the stove.
“I’m not saying you don’t I’m just saying…”
“You are just saying that your career should always come first and that I should drop every single thing that I am doing to support you in your career.” Y/N hissed as she aggressively turned the stone off, turning back to look at him.
“Well yes since my career actually m…” He started but his eyes went wide when he realized what he was about to say.
“Because your career actually matters, is that what you were going to say Josh,” Y/N said, the anger completely gone from her voice. “Go ahead and eat. I'm not hungry anymore.” She said as she stormed upstairs.
“Shit,” Josh thought as he made his way after her.
As he cautiously made his way towards their bedroom, he could hear the sound of Y/N crying and he quickly walked in.
“Y/N,” He started and that’s when he saw her packing. “What are you doing.”
“I’m going to go stay with Ainsley,” She sniffed wiping the tears from her eyes.
“You would rather stay with a republican than with me,” Josh teased but Y/N just gave him a devastated look. “Y/N I’m sorry I didn’t mean what I said.”
“My job matters Josh, I know its not the life altering decisions like you make but to those kids, the ones whom I am their only voice during a time that is extremely traumatic for them, it matters.” Y/N said her voice cracking hard,
Josh quickly rushed to her side putting his hands on her face. “I know that honey, I do. I was just upset I really didn’t mean it. Your job absolutely matters. I am constantly in awe of what you do and how you help people. I brag about your job to everyone. My mother when she calls she asks how your job is going long before she even asks about me.”
Y/N laughed as she wiped her tears away.
“I was just upset because I really wanted you to come to the gala with me. I feel a lot more confident when I have you next to me.”
“Josh, you were plenty confident when I met you.” Y/N said as she back away turning back as she started to unpack the suitcase.
“It was a nice little act,  but in realty, I feel my most confident and strongest, when you are by my side holding my hand, because I know if I have you I can face anything.” Josh said as he wrapped his arms around her waist burying his face in the crook of her neck.
“For how often you are an ass, you really know how to make up for it.” Y/N sighed as she turned around kissing him softly as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“I’ve learned to admit when I’m wrong. Because I would rather grovel for your forgiveness than lose you.” He said seriously.
Y/N smiled as she ran her fingers through his hair.
“You won’t ever lose me Josh.”
By the time Josh made it into their bedroom he was a sobbing mess. Every room in the house gave him flashes of the beautiful memories he had with Y/N, and he felt like everything was slipping away.
Josh slowly rolled over, for the first time in a long time he had actually slept well. And he knew exactly what the reason was. As he opened his eyes he smiled looking at the beautiful girl laying next to him asleep.
Last night was the first night Y/N and Josh had spent together. And as Josh took in the sight of her snuggled up next to him, her beautiful Y/H/C against her Y/S/C, he realized that he was in love with her.
“You are staring, Joshua.” Y/N smiled as she opened her eyes smiling at him.
“It’s hard not to stare, you are so beautiful Y/N.” Josh said as he leaned forward kissing her.
“You are just saying that because I am lying naked in bed with you.” She laughed.
“You could be wearing 30 layers of clothes and I would still think you are the most beautiful woman in the world.”
Y/N kissed Josh again as she pulled him closer.
“I mean I’m not saying that you being naked in bed with me is a bad thing by any means.” Josh laughed as he flipped over so he was on top as he kissed Y/N passionately.
He kissed her for a while before the two broke apart and Josh stared down at her. She looked up eyes filled with curiosity.
“What’s wrong Josh,” Y/N smiled.
“I love you.” Josh said. “I love you Y/N.”
Y/N stared at Josh for a moment eyes wide. “I love you too Josh.”
As Josh got in the shower and he watched as Y/N’s blood dripped off of him and down the drain, he let out a devastated scream as he pounded his fists against the tile.

Being in a band with your 2 best friends and your cousin is definitely awesome, until the first week.
"POPPY WHERE'S MY FUCKING HAIRBRUSH?" A super angry drummer was seen getting on the bus.
"Ana, can't you speak a sentence at a normal voice volume?" That was Lexa, our guitarist or our mother, whichever you prefer. She performs both functions very well.
"No, I can't." She walks over to Poppy and snatches her hairbrush out of her hand. "At least not when vocalists with superiority complexes steal my stuff." She walks to the small bathroom on the bus as Poppy showed her the middle finger.
Even inside the bus you could hear several bands doing sound checks and stages being finalized outside. We had arrived at the Summer Rock Festival a few hours ago, it would be three days of festival, we would perform on the second day, after our friends from The Struts and before the boys from Greta Van Fleet.
"Luke texted me, he and the boys are already heading to the bar." Lexa stands up fixing the bottom of her beautiful dress that looked like it was straight out of the 70's, "So if we don't want to be late our dear drummer had better get out of this fucking bathroom soon."
"Hey, no swearing, Mom." I walk past her grabbing my leather jacket from the seat. "Ana! Let's go!"
By the time Lexa and Poppy are outside I am trying to find my cell phone amidst a pile of clothes, Ana finally comes out of the bathroom.
"Cousins by chance, twins by choice." She pulls up the sleeves of her jacket, just like mine, smiling at me.
I find my cell phone and slip my arm over Ana's shoulders, leading us to the bus door.
"Did I mention I hate you?" I ask coming down the small staircase and find Poppy and Lexa waiting for us to go.
"Hm, I guess not today yet." She goes to Poppy's side and pats her chin. "Stop drooling, Poppy."
Lexa and I turn to where Poppy was looking and find the 4 boys from Greta taking their instruments off the bus, about 50 feet away from us.
"Fuck you, Ana," Poppy starts walking towards the exit of the festival, where there is an avenue full of bars, nightclubs, strip clubs and karaoke places.
In less than 10 minutes we had already arrived at the bar and before we even entered Jed already called us shouting. "Hey, girls! Over here!"
It was always really cool to hang out with the boys, we knew each other because of Jed and Adam being friends with Poppy's older brother. We joined them and other people from the crew and some other artists at the festival and less than 2 minutes later several bottles of beer were already on the tables.
I looked at my band mates, we spend so much time together that it is fun to analyze them socializing with other people besides ourselves.
Poppy was probably the most outgoing of us, everyone liked her, she was always nice and polite to everyone and it was amazing to see men with long beards and leather vests making fun of a girl singing rock and then Poppy shutting them up, either with her talent or her knowledge.
Lexa was so calm that it is still shocking to me to see her play and totally transform on stage. She had a 70's hippie style that matched perfectly with her long blond hair and delicate features.
And Ana, my band mate that I have known all my life, my younger cousin. Certainly the strongest personality among the four of us, her life revolved around music, and I loved that about her.
Oh, of course. There's me too, but I don't think it's worth describing myself too much. I'm probably too dull around them. I wasn't outgoing like Poppy, I wasn't charming like Lexa, and I definitely didn't have as much personality as Ana.
My God, what a depression. I need another drink, one stronger than beer.
"Hey, I'm going to go to the bar. I'll be right back." I speak to Lexa receiving a nod in response.
Reaching over I choose the only drink capable of cheering me up.
"A shot of Jack Daniels. No ice please" I speak loudly so the bartender can hear through the music of The Who playing at the bar.
"I always thought it was the guitar players who were more into whiskey" A husky voice came over the music right in my right ear. "I thought bass players were more into vodka"
And then the seat next to me was taken by Jake Kiszka, guitarist for Greta Van Fleet, well I definitely can't compare to Poppy on the subject of "GVF FANGIRL", but wow.
"What about the vocalists and drummers?" I asked as the bartender left the shot of Jack Daniels in front of me.
"Vocalists? Probably some weird drink and drummers for sure are the beer guys." He smiles and turns the stool around facing me "I'm Jake" He holds out his hand to you.
"Y/N" I hold his hand.
"The bass player who made my theory go down the drain." He laughs arching an eyebrow.
"Well, maybe I'm an exception.
"Yeah, maybe there was a glitch in the matrix." He turns to call the bartender. "May I imitate you?" He indicates my glass with his head.
"You're the guitar player here, I think I'm the one copying you." I smile at him and he reciprocates, and shit, why do I think I could stare at him smile forever? And then I feel an arm on my shoulders.
"So you mean my friends are friends, and I didn't know?" Luke leaned one arm on me and the other on Jake, clearly not sober anymore. "Come on over to the table, antisocial people, your bands are waiting."
Luke releases our shoulders and looks at us. "Or are you guys busy planning to pick each other up?"
I could feel all my blood rising to my cheeks in a second, and thank God I had already swallowed the whiskey, otherwise I probably would have spit it all out.
"Of course not Luke." I gave a nervous laugh praying that I could disguise my embarrassment. Which only increased when Jake tilted his head to the side looking at me and gave a weak laugh and then getting up to walk over to the table.
Now there were more people at the table, including the other three members of Greta, and I sat down between Adam and Ana. "Please dig a hole and stick me in" I whispered to my cousin.
"With pleasure." She winked and smiled at me, "But may I know why?"
With the music loud and our friends talking around us I had to lean 'round to whisper right into her ear. "I was talking to Jake Kiszka and then Luke came over and thought we were going to kiss and I looked like an idiot."
"You always look like an idiot, cousin." He whispered in response. "But you want to kiss him?" Ana smiled mischievously.
"Oh my god, I was just talking to him."
"Well, you should kiss him, he's handsome." She picks up her beer and offers me a bottle.
"You say that because you have a crush on his twin." I open my bottle as I watch Ana choke on her own beer and cast a quick glance at Josh. "Oh come on, you can't disguise yourself." I laugh slapping our bottles together before taking a long sip.
"I don't have a crush on him." Ana squirms in her chair uncomfortably. "He's the lead singer, he has several women after him, and he must have a superiority complex just like Poppy."
"He seems pretty cool!"
"Y/N! ANA!" Poppy's voice managed without louder than the music in the bar, causing us to turn around and find 10 pairs of eyes staring at us. "Are you guys deaf?"
As I run my gaze around the table I realize that all the boys' crew have left, now it's just us, the boys from The Struts and Greta Van Fleet.
"Hm, hey!" I reply before Ana has a chance to cuss Poppy out.
"We're going to karaoke, the bar closes early today." Gethin gets up from the table, being followed by his bandmates, Josh, Sam, Danny, Poppy and Lexa.
"I'm in!" Ana stands up.
"I'm going back to the bus, I don't have as much energy as you guys." I stand up grabbing my cell phone and wallet.
"Let's go together." Jake speaks and I realize that he was the only one who hadn't gotten up until now.
"Ok" I say trying to look calm and not knowing why I am nervous, like a teenage girl who likes the popular boy.
I say goodbye to everyone and when I pass by Ana she winks at me, in a not discreet way.
After we pay for our drinks, Jake and I head out onto the streets of Chicago to return to the festival.
"Excited for tomorrow?" Jake asks as we cross one of the avenue streets.
"For sure, tomorrow and our days will have the best shows!" I look at him. "I feel like I might faint just remembering that I'm going to see Steven Tyler live tomorrow." He throws his head back and laughs. "Now you think I'm some kind of crazy fangirl." I smile.
"Oh, of course not." Jake returns the smile by looking at me. "The chances of me passing out at the Stones concert are not small either."
"So, you're a 'fangirl' for Keith Richards?"
"Definitely." He laughs again shaking his head.
"Does that mean that for you 'team stones' is right?
"Well, it's certainly a tough contest, but yes 'team stones'." He turns to me with the corners of his lips raised. "Team Beatles?"
"And a George stan with pride." I smile and wink at him amused. "Okay, important question."
"Okay, speak." Jake runs his fingers through the strands of hair that fall down the side of his face.
"Pearl Jam or Nirvana?"
"Is there a right answer?" He asks and I arch an eyebrow at him. "Okay, hm, Nirvana."
"You had a right answer! And you got it wrong." I smile. "Come on, Eddie Veder is almost a God."
Jake laughs and brings his hands in front of his body in a sign of redemption. "I don't disagree!"
And then I realize that we arrived at the festival some time ago and are now facing my bus.
"Thank you so much, for walking me here." I say to him, climbing up the first step of the entrance stairs, almost standing the same height as Jake.
"You're welcome!" He gives me a smile and puts his hands in the pockets of his black skinny pants. "See you tomorrow?"
"Yeah, sure."
You smile at him and Jake moves closer and deposits a kiss on your cheek.
"Bye!"
“Bye, Jake!”

Reacting to Legacies 3x03 (SPOILERS):
1. So ARE we FINALLY getting to some proper firstborn Mikaelson witch breakdowns?
2. Oh well, apparently no. They'll just try to wave it off as some one time thing probably.
3. So Hope and Landon are on a break. Okay. TBH watching them sass each other is interesting.
4. The guidance counselor is pretty much a compulsion monster, is that it? Well, I do like his wardrobe.
5. Alyssa's concern for MG is so fake I can't.
6. Nobody other than Jed read for Stefan? THE DISRESPECT.
7. Lizzie playing Caroline makes total sense but them asking Josie to play the lead without even an audition looks a bit bad TBH. Like, give the other interested people a chance, at least.
8. I find it a bit repetitive how there are mind-controlling monsters popping out again and again.
9. So MG is basically going through a phase similar to what Cami was going through when Klaus used to compel her at the beginning of TO. Considering Quincy's fondness for Cami, he must have liked playing that.
10. I understand that Landon is supposed to be a capable songwriter in-universe but it takes more than that to write and direct a musical and it's very weird that they didn't even find a guest star to pose as a Drama or English teacher who is guiding him or something. WHERE ARE ALL THE TEACHERS?
11. I kinda feel like some of the lead characters in this show are colour-coded. I see Hope and Landon in red and blue a lot (the two gowns we have seen Hope wearing also fall into this pattern) and Josie wears yellow in like, every other episode. If I recall correctly, Lizzie wears a lot of white, too. I wonder what the reasoning behind these choices are.
12. Well, I liked Hope and Landon's relationship in S1, I have no idea what was going on with it in S2, and I still don't know what to think about it.
13. Lizzie casts herself in Caroline's role and then chokes at rehearsal. Not totally unrealistic but still feels a bit forced to me. Would have been better if Landon cast her because she's Caroline's daughter and Lizzie was a bit apprehensive in the first place because she didn't want to mess up the role.
14. I appreciate the show taking a moment to talk about Lizzie's bipolar disorder though. It's been a while.
15. "Bonnie just disappears for long periods of time"? Dude, she's still super important and you're putting her in the play. Right? RIGHT?!
16. Landon, THANK YOU for pointing out how weird Caroline and Alaric's relationship was. The guy deadass got engaged to her and had a pissing contest over her with Stefan, that will never not gross me out.
17. So the monster is mind controlling Landon to put Klaus into the play. Saw this coming IG.
18. Hope is painting again, like her dad used to do when he felt things were going out of control. I've been rewatching TO and this is making me so emotional. I MISS KLAUS AND HIS SHENANIGANS. And not a single character on Legacies comes close to Klaus, Elijah and Hayley for me. (Sorry if this hurts anyone's feelings but Legacies really is a downgrade from TVD and TO)
19. Ugh, why would he use the contents of the letter as lyrics? Dude, is it because you're mind-controlled? No, I don't like this. Klaus loved Hope to the ends of the earth and wanted everyone to know but Hope wants to keep things private, and her wishes should have been respected.
20. So apparently Landon tries not to put Klaus' villainous antics into the show. Well, okay, it's definitely a copout but since he is Hope's boyfriend, makes sense. But I don't understand why the musical HAS TO BE about the Salvatore school. The accreditation excuse is lazy, writers! Also, Landon, my dude, Klaus was a major donor of the school. Put that in instead of the other things, stop pissing off your girlfriend FFS. Even if you're mind-controlled 🤦🏻‍♀️
21. I do find it funny how Landon is all gaga over Klaus' use of language though. The guy really did have the best lines, didn't he? (Tied with Elijah, I suppose, for me)
22. The other singers of the first song are really good so Kaylee sounds a bit rusty in comparison. Also, she reminds me too much of Dark!Josie with the hair and makeup. From a distance, she can be mistaken for Nina though.
23. I love that the backstage activities are being shown.
24. I'm digging Jed as Stefan and I really like his singing voice. And the Hero Hair wig cracked me up. Kaleb is obviously good at singing at it's nice to hear more from him. I also like how Chris Lee didn't try to exactly emulate Ian and played Damon how someone who has only heard about him might play him.
25. Is Hope painting herself before the pit or something? Or is this supposed to symbolize her despair at her parents' loss? ALSO, I WANT SOMEONE TO MENTION HAYLEY :( Why is Hayley so ignored?!
26. The same person probably wrote MG's notes and Caroline's letter IRL and therefore, in-universe, MG has Caroline's handwriting and it's funny to me.
27. Jenny sings well, I like it. I don't understand the song though, was Caroline actually ever feeling this insecure? I feel like the song became a lot more about Lizzie than her mother. (It's been forever since I watched TVD, if anyone has yet to guess, I prefer watching TO)
28. The doppelganger thing cracked me up.
29. Wait why did the monster attack Josie?! Ohhhh he's forcing Landon to improvise and put Klaus' song at the end. Well, I guess it makes it seem a bit less like Landon's fault. But would Hope know that?
30. It's hilarious how they lowkey make a call back to Nina leaving TVD and them having to put Elena in a sleep spell though.
31. Landon having a hissy fit is funny to me. Aria needs more comedic scenes.
32. Wait, where did Jade come from? Has she been in the school all these weeks?
33. While the scene seems a bit shabby to me, Klaus talking to Hope reminds me of their scene from TO 4X03. I needed more of Summer Fontana and Joseph Morgan together. Also, the donation did get mentioned, YASSSS. Man did some horrific things but he did fund the school so maybe a little less badmouthing in the presence of his daughter now that you know the story, eh, students?
34. The fact that the guidance counselor actually wore a leather jacket and a henley is cracking me up. It's really bizarre.
35. "Terrible painter" XD Klaus would have eaten you for saying that if he were alive.
36. Um, Hope, wouldn't you ask your family if you are doing enough to make your father proud, instead of this random bloke who supposedly met him once?! Maybe call Freya or Rebekah.
37. Why is this monster being nice to Hope? Doesn't it try to break people up or something? You'd think he'd try to piss her off even more and ruin her relationship with Landon.
38. Stefan was trying to be more like Damon by sacrificing himself? Um, what?
39. Well, this musical at least gave Stefan and Caroline a goodbye scene. I wonder how much the twins remember Stefan, must have been a bit emotional for Lizzie to play that. Jenny's singing was gooood, really liked it.
40. JED WAS GONNA KISS LIZZIE AND I WANTED IT TO HAPPEN. But a forehead kiss does work.
41. Hope's playing Elena now? What?
42. Ngl I want Hope and Jed to be friends. She needs more of a connection to her wolf side. Both of her parents wanted her to be surrounded by wolves and she's barely interacting with the wolves in this show, which always makes me sad.
43. So this monster can also do little spells and move physical objects eh? Whatever, this is random.
44. And this monster brings people back together? Why?
45. So when Hope is singing, is she doing it as Elena or Hope? She came on stage as Elena, but I thought the song is about Hope. So WHAT IS IT?
46. Oh Damon's on stage, so Hope is singing as Elena and it's a call back to the graveyard scene from the TVD finale.
47. Danielle sings pretty well. It's good she decided to perform this time.
48. Okay, that lifting up scene was adorable. I feel like Hope and Landon are at their cutest when they're a bit spontaneous. But she's Elena on stage and it lowkey looks like Landon crashed her romantic scene with Damon to kiss her so I'm cackling.
49. How much older is Jade supposed to be than Josie?
50. So is Josie going to leave the school for a while and that's why Ethan will be back in the picture?
51. Jade used to babysit Josie? Okay, it is hella awkward.
52. Josie why, don't do this, yikes. Kissing her once doesn't make it non-creepy.
53. The Sheriff feels kinda shoehorned to me. Also, I don't care for Matt Davis or his character.
54. So Candice did the voiceover for Caroline's letter. That's nice for the show. I still don't understand why the letter showed up in Hope's fireplace though LOL.
55. This episode should have spent more time exploring the aftermath of the loss of Rafael. The abrupt shift from the last episode wasn't nice.
56. Yeah, kids, talk out your problems, thanks.
57. I feel like Klaus is too much of a controversial figure that Hope's conflict about her father's reputation would be resolved in one day. This is feeling undercooked. Speaking of, when is one of Klaus' or Hayley's enemies coming after Hope, because she did inherit all of them. Would make for better storytelling than this monster of the week nonsense. And yeah, still no mention of Hayley, I hate this.
58. The monster's characterization was really odd to me and I am so tired of this format SMH.
59. So they toyed with MG for weeks to get a vampire for the spell? That sounds like too much effort. There are tons of vampires from Klaus and Rebekah's bloodline, they couldn't find another? Also, I wonder who is the wolf that they will use.
Well, I felt like this episode was mostly okay, but not that well-cooked or epic or whatever. What is horrific is that they didn't show Bonnie, though. They could have at least gotten a female black guest character who is one of the witch students or something. This is very offensive.
Also, I don't think it makes sense for the show to do any more musicals in the future. This ain't Riverdale.

Devil’s Sweet Star (43)
Fandom: Dead by Daylight
Ghostface x Female Reader
Rated M for Violence, Language and Smut
***
A lot of things happened last night, a lot of revelation especially, the whole thing having been concluded by a... wild night. You could feel aches everywhere, it must be said that you did not go slowly, you and Jed... I mean Danny. It will take you some time to accept this reality. All this time, this dear Jed, this boy who seemed shy, adorable and very concerned about the others, was actually the one who at night, was going to commit murders, but also come to see you, under the name of Ghostface.  It will take you time, but you will still have to adapt quickly. Because only one misstep and Only God knows what Danny will do to you.
You were still in bed together. You felt aches and pains along your body, and it's no wonder, with the beast sleeping next to you. He was wilder than when he was Jed. much wilder. He was turned towards you, his hair scattered all over his pillow, his face peaceful. You gently release a strand of hair from his face which made him react. And without having time to realize it, you find yourself glued to him, his arms blocking you like a child who hugs his teddy bear tightly. Luckily, you're not working today. But you still want to get up. You try to get out of your way but all you get is Danny's grunts and a slightly tighter embrace.
“Hmmm... stop moving.” Said Danny grumbling a little.
“You are slightly crushing me against you. And I want to get up.” you respond.
“Why? You don't work today, if I remember correctly.”
“Yeah, but I can’t stay in bed all day. Come on Danny...”
Danny grumbled again, letting you get up before complaining even more when he heard his phone ring. He got up, before taking the latter and looking at who dared to disturb him so early. It was his boss Mr Hembrook. You could notice that a twisted smile appeared on his face, as if he already knew why his boss was calling him. And in a sense... you also have your little idea about it.
“Hello? In 20min? Yes of course Sir why?... Are you serious? Yes, yes, I go there right now. Okay, he's going to be happy to see me... You too sir. Good bye.” said Danny before hanging up the phone and looking at you with a wide smile.
“What did he want?” you ask even if you already knew the answer.
“Wilhelm is at Hoggins' villa... they have just found his body. And my boss wants me to go there to get some information. And help Wilhelm if possible.”
“I suspected it a little. You must be proud, all this time you made everyone believe that it was Hoggins who killed McKellan and made up everything to make it look like a Ghostface murder... and there... You literally turned everyone's brain upside down.”
“That's what it's like to be me. I have had plenty of time to improve since my first murder. I made mistakes, adapted my modus operandi according to the situation, and I created my own signature. I confess that I didn't really like attributing MY McKellan's murder to Hoggins, but I had to draw attention to him. In addition, this moron brought me everything I wanted on a silver platter.”
“You mean everything you found on Hoggins was true?” you replied surprised.
“Honey, I am a criminal, but I am a journalist first and foremost. Everything I found and showed you on Hoggins is true. I can't really have fun falsifying documents that need to be published in the newspaper. Otherwise, my boss will suspect something. No one fools him so easily.” He responds before getting up and head to the wardrobe to pick up clean clothes.
“In this case I come with you.”
“Oh? Do you want to see in what state I left this bastard? You know that curiosity is an ugly flaw... but if you insist, I'm not going to say no. And that way you can reassure yourself about his death.”
You both have breakfast quickly; you get dressed and Danny took his bag that contained his journalist's belongings. You could see in his office another bag, surely the one in which he put his Ghostface’s outfit and others. You leave the apartment to get into Danny's van, setting off for Hoggins' house. It's going to be weird to go back there for a murder, when that's where the reception was held. An unforgettable evening. During the ride, you discussed everything and nothing as if it were one of your usual days. Once he arrived in front of the hoggins' house, Danny parked, turned off the engine and took your arm before you went down.
“Remember what was said last night. For everyone, I am Jed. So, no missteps, otherwise... I would be obliged to make you assimilate them... in a less diplomatic way. Oh, and try to pretend you don't know anything. Let us avoid drawing attention to ourselves.” He said before letting you go.
You leave the vehicle and join Wilhelm in Hoggins' office where his corpse is. When you arrive in the room, a vision of horror, and a desire to vomit, took you. You turn your head by refraining from vomiting, indeed, we can say that Hoggins is dead. Danny has accomplished his little revenge with perfection. The latter was talking with Wilhelm explaining the reasons for your presence. After all, in the eyes of the law, you are a civilian, and civilians do not have to be at the crime scene.
“Are you okay Miss? If you want to vomit, you have the toilet which is just the room after from the left. Anyway, the owner of the house is no longer able to do or say anything against you.” Said Wilhelm looking at you.
“Yes... Thank you.” you simply respond.
“Well... we can say that he was more than creative this time. I knew he had imagination but here, it's too much for me.” Said Danny.
“The worst thing is that this bastard leaves a little note. He was the one who killed McKellan! he used Hoggins as a scapegoat. Goddamnit !” replied Wilhelm, hitting the wall next to him.
“It cannot be said that Hoggins was a saint... there was quite a bit of evidence against him too. I think that Ghostface knew this and that he used it. This guy is always spying on his victims...”
“This is not wrong Olsen... this is not wrong. In the meantime, I thought I could end McKellan's murder, and in the end, not only it’s not the case, but I also find myself with Hoggins' murder on my hands! I'm going to smash that dirty little asshole if I catch him!”
You see Danny making a discreet but sneaky smile behind Wilhelm, something you shake your head slightly at. He had done this not only to take revenge, but also to make fun of Wilhelm. You wanted to hit him on the shoulder, but it would be useless. what is done... is done. And then, like Danny told you earlier, it's better to avoid attention on both of you.
“He literally crucified him. And turn that cross over to make him a demon. It’s really twisted. Maybe a follower of religion? One of these... Satanists? In a sense it would not surprise me. Given all the blood he sheds.” said Wilhelm.
“Maybe... or maybe not. That's the problem with Ghostface, he knows everything about everyone, but nobody knows anything about him.” said Danny.
“I find it strange ... he seems to appreciate you well Miss. Because all those who tried to harm you are dead.” Replied Wilhelm, looking at you.
You look at the two men, not knowing what to answer. Danny made you understand that you had to quickly find an excuse or something to say. Otherwise, suspicions will arise on you. It was inevitable and real, Danny killed everyone who got too close to you and threatened you. Think pickle brains, think!
“Great...as if McKellan and Hoggins hadn't been so... horrible, I had to attract the most twisted murderer in the city.” you respond, faking an annoying face.
“All we have to do now is know why. it's not like you've been living here for a long time, and Ghostface had started his murders long before you arrived. But here, it seems that he is tired of attacking small fish, he wants to catch the bigger ones.” said Wilhelm looking at the reverse cross.
“Go find out what big fish he's going to attack next time... Me... You... or the mayor.” said Danny, taking notes.
Wilhelm and Danny exchanged a look that meant everything. A cold settled in the room. Don’t forget that these two men do not get along at the base... If you didn't understand why with "Jed", now that you know the reality of things, with Danny, it didn't surprise you in the end. Still, be as close to the one who wants to capture you... you really have to be twisted to play so much with fire. Both took notes, observations of the crime scene, and recorded hypotheses about what might have happened.
It was demoralizing to see how Danny was making fun of Wilhelm, knowing himself that he’s the perpetrator of this murder. He knew how to lie, that's for sure. You were sure that he convinced himself of his own lies. After a few hours, you and Danny end up leaving the scene, Danny "promising" to notify the inspector if he ever had any information. On the way back, you look at Danny pouting like a child unhappy that he didn't have an ice cream.
“What?” Danny finally said.
“You should be given the medal for the best liar in the world. And the best actor too. You act as if nothing had happened and you provoke the inspector without thinking that there will be no consequences or that he will not suspect you by saying this.” you respond.
“Ha ha I know Honey I know. I was born with this talent as an actor. It's innate in me. And the same can be said of you.”
“Except that compared to you it doesn't make me happy to lie to people. And I pray that no one will ever discover the truth.”
“Oh, you can. Because if it happens... I'd know where it came from.” replied Danny.
You take a lunch break to eat, as usual, at the park and then around 1pm, you quickly stop at the newspaper, while Danny aka "Jed" or "Jeddy" according to Mattew, reports to his boss. It was fun to see the locals where Danny was working, you were the first "civilian" to go inside, at least to go up to the office. Usually, when you deliver the cakes for the newspaper, it’s the security guards who take care of receiving the packages.
Mr. Hembrook greeted you warmly it was the first time he smiled like this. From what Danny told you, he wasn't the type to joke about, he was someone very serious about his job. But, outside, no one knows how he is. After a few hours of discussion about the article to be published on Hoggins, a discussion in which you took part, you both leave the Roseville Gazette’s building and get back in the van.
“So? What do we do now?” you ask.
“Well normally tonight I had planned to... find a new victim. Or start this article. But you see, I don't want to. I want to spend a quiet evening, without work, without murder, just you and me. So... What would you say about a short trip to Zanesville just you and me? there are many more things to do than here.” Danny said with a bright smile.
“Oh, you're doing a rebellious teenage crisis again? the one who only wants to have fun and nothing else?”
“Ha ha. Really funny. I may have been a model student, but I knew how to have fun. Okay, so? it's yes or no, Miss Rainbow...” replied Danny chuckling.
“Hey! You promised me to not call me that.” you respond, hitting him in the arm.
“Correction, JED promised you to not call you that anymore. Not me. So?”
“...Fine. But promise me to tell anyone about that.” you said sighing before laughing.
Danny restarted the van and set off for Zanesville. The road was made in music, and even being himself, Danny still had the same musical tastes than when he was Jed. Indeed, Zanesville has more to offer in terms of entertainment than Roseville. A big city has everything, but it will never replace the tranquillity of a peaceful small town. You looked through the window at the various shops, restaurants, libraries, and even the arcades! there were also shops that sold CDs and films. Basically, there was everything, in addition to grocery stores and small supermarkets.
“Ready to have fun?” asks Danny.
“Ready!” You respond smiling.
I hope for you that you know how to hold out until late... very late. Because there, with Danny... you're not ready to go to bed anytime soon. Oh no you're going to be awake all night. Let the party begin!
Until your body lets you go.

(I think I'm at my... 6/7 run of Road 96 and I still never get tired of it! the good thing about this game is that each road is unique, even if we know the different answers we can give, we can create multiple situations that can lead either to our arrest, our death, or our freedom. It's a game with a gripping story and also very endearing characters. Well, I must admit that Zoe now... as soon as I see her, I want to kick her in the head. She's not a bad character, and I know she doesn't do it voluntarily, but she always puts us in danger every time we meet her. And after a while it's just irritating. I hope you’ll like this chapter like the other ones! Well, it's time for my brain to rest! Have a great weekend to you all!  See ya! )

r20ebecca asked for 13/14 and I chose 14 from general :)
“Come back.”
She’s laying on the couch, still in her pajamas from the night before at 3pm and she’s a full box of Oreos deep as she watches old Facts of Life reruns. She’s picked up the phone about 20 times the last hour alone, but she stops herself from calling him every time.
She tried talking to him for weeks and he kept blowing her off. She didn’t do anything wrong, she doesn’t need to feel guilty for quitting. He’s only her boss, she doesn’t owe him anything.
Okay, that’s a lie. She owes him everything, but she can’t stay in that job anymore. It’s only making her angry and she may have been abrupt at quitting, but he wouldn’t listen. She had no choice.
It still hurts that he didn’t call, though.
She looks at the phone again, about to pick it up for the 21st time when a knock at her door startles her. She wraps her afghan around her shoulders and walks to the door, peeking out the peep hole to find Josh himself out in the hallway. She doesn’t open the door right away and he knocks again.
“Come on, Donna. I can see your shadow, I know you’re right there. Let me in.”
“Why?” she asks, still refusing to open the door, and she sees him huff indignantly.
“I need to talk to you. Just open the damn door.”
She rolls her eyes and flicks the lock before walking back to the couch, and Josh barges in.
“What do you want, Josh?”
He walks further into her apartment and looks at the television. “TVLand?”
“What do you want?” she asks again pointedly. “State your business or go home.”
“Go get dressed,” he says, walking to her kitchen and opening the fridge for a water bottle.
“What are you talking about?”
“And hurry,” he says, looking at his watch. “We have less than 2 hours.”
“For what?” She stares at him like he’s grown two heads. “I don’t work for you anymore, remember?”
“Donna,” he says, cocking his head toward her bedroom. “Go get dressed.”
She sits up. “Are you okay? Have you hit your head and you have amnesia or something?” He sets the water on her coffee table before walking around and physically lifting her off the couch. “Josh, I don’t know who you think—“
“Go get dressed. I’ll explain in the cab.” He nudges her to her room, but she digs in her heels.
“I’m not going anywhere with you until you tell me what the hell is going on.”
“We’re going to Houston.”
“Texas?”
“No, Romania,” he deadpans, giving her a look. “Yes, Texas.”
“What the hell is in Houston?”
“Matt Santos.”
“Congressman Santos? The one not running for another term?”
“Correct,” he says, grabbing her carry-on from her closet and throwing things in it. “Now, get dressed. We have a flight soon.”
“Josh, stop,” she orders, grabbing his arms. “I don’t work for you anymore. I’m not going.”
“I know you don’t work for me anymore, Donna. The temp from Hell has made me well aware of that. I’m telling you, you’re going with me.”
“I already have another job.”
He actually laughs at that and Donna’s eyes flash. “Working for Bingo Bob is not a job. It’s a death sentence. He’ll barely make it to the Convention.”
She crosses her arms over her chest. “Will offered me an opportunity. I’m practically second in command with their campaign.”
“I’m telling you you’re actually second in command with my campaign.”
She freezes. “Santos wants to run?” Josh doesn’t answer her, just shoulders the backpack and heads to the door, but she steps in his way. “Josh.”
“I have a nine point plan, okay? I’ll get him to run.”
Donna is the one to laugh now. “You’re ambushing him.”
“No,” he says before looking at her. “We are ambushing him.”
“Where is this coming from? 24 hours ago, you wanted nothing to do with me, and now you’re offering me a promotion?” He runs his hands through his hair in a way that tells her he’s nervous, not angry, but she doesn’t let up. “Josh.”
“I never said I didn’t want anything to do with you, Donna. I was busy. You knew my schedule.”
“Yes I did, that’s why I made an appointment for myself which you chose to ignore many times.”
He turns around to look at her. “I wasn’t ready to leave the White House,” he says quietly. “I made a commitment to Jed Bartlet and I intended on seeing it through, but then Leo’s telling me to go and you leave and it’s like it’s not even the White House anymore.” He shrugs his shoulders. “I’m asking you to come back. Go to Houston with me and if it doesn’t work, then I’ll leave you alone.”
She looks at him long and hard, trying to see if he’s lying, but she knows he isn’t. “What do you mean by second in command? I refuse to be your assistant, Josh. I want more than that and if—“
“Not my assistant,” he assures. “You’d be like senior staff to Leo. What I was doing the first campaign.”
“We’re gonna need a speech writer.”
“Does that mean you’re in?”
She bites her lip for a moment, but doesn’t have to think very long. “I’m in.” He goes back into high-speed motion, but she stops him. “I have a couple conditions.”
“Name them quickly. We really gotta go.”
She brings her hand up to tick off her fingers. “I will not file or type a single memo, note, press release, or whatever else for you. You’ll do it yourself or hire an assistant. You don’t come to me for the admin garbage. Number two,” she says pointedly when he starts to walk out of her room, “my opinion holds weight.”
“Your opinion always holds weight.”
“Well, this time around, I don’t have to run everything by you first. You’re not my liaison to the Congressman.”
“Anything else?”
“I get a massive salary bump if he runs and we start making money.”
“Fine. Let’s go.” She still won’t budge. “What?”
“You have to shake on it. I need your word, Josh.”
He drops the bag he’s been carrying and stands up straight, reaching his hand out for hers. She grabs it and he looks her right in the eye. “You have my word. If we pull this off, all those conditions will be met. I swear.”
He shakes once and she grins at him before taking her hand back and pushing him out of her room. “Get out of here, I gotta get dressed,” she says and shuts the door on his equally happy face.

Poised (Ghostface x Reader)
Rated: SFW
Word Count: 1.3k
Summary: Just a nice work day at your news outlet where your coworker Jed Olsen is being a dick.
Warnings: Nothing. and I’m so disgusted at that.
A/N: Someone made me write this NOT SMUT and I hate it. But also its kinda cute, so here you go. Extremely SFW.
It was him. It had to be him. You were so sure it was him. You didn’t know how he was doing it or even why really, but you just knew it was him. You didn’t have any proof, hadn’t caught him in the act, or even seen him near the scene of the crime, but it was just a feeling that screamed Jed Olsen.
That smarmy smirk, deep voice, charismatic yet annoying attitude, the disgusting way his hair looked so soft, his cute laugh, attractive eyes, and that jawline...ok just stop there, that’s not what you were supposed to be thinking right now. You were angry. Mad and there was no way hormones would change that right now.
You were going to confront him. Right here, right now. You knew it was him and if he didn’t stop you were going to involve an outside source. So in your pissed off angry state you power walked your way into the little corner office they’d given him. You could see through the blinds that he was sitting at his desk looking over some files.
When you walked in he’d given you one of those charming as fuck smiles that no way, no how would you ever admit had your insides flutter. When you’d shut the door behind you only to plant both hands on his desk to stare him down he gave you a raised brow.
“Can I help you?” That stupid face. And those stupid pretty eyes that you couldn’t stand to look at because it was making you forget why you came here… So you made your gaze into a glare, trying to stay angry and clear-headed. You’d come here with a purpose and you weren’t going to get thrown off just because he was nice eye candy.
Looking at him though had you trying to figure out why he was doing it or even why he’d want to. He was smart, handsome, and could get or do anything really, so why? Why was he doing it? You couldn’t make sense out of it.
“You should stop.” In that moment you couldn’t say what it was, but something in his eyes shifted. You wouldn’t have caught it if you weren’t staring him down so intently. Couldn’t even really explain what it was. It was like a light shifted or gained a spark of some kind, “Oh?” was his only response.
You put a growl in your voice when you said, “I don’t know why you’re doing it, but it needs to stop.” He leaned back in his chair and interlaced his fingers, “Now why would I do that?”
You groaned, “Jed, please! If you don’t stop I’ll be forced to involve someone and I hate snitching. I’m not a child.” Slowly, he stood to make his way around his desk to stand in front of you. He gave you an intense stare that had your palms sweaty for some reason, “Snitching would be a very silly thing to do. Very silly.“ You gulped. The way he’d said it was somehow light, but you could tell there was an underlying threat. Even though he wasn’t terribly huge or tall, he was still well above average, and he definitely towered over you. Sweat rolled down the back of your neck.
Usually, he was all laughs and charm, but something seemed off. Something a little darker- you hadn’t heard him laugh once. Nervously you agreed, “Yeah, I don’t want to, so just stop and I’ll forget about it.” He shook his head and leaned towards you a little more than you were comfortable with, “See, I can do that now. I’m having too much fun.”
He placed a hand on his desk and trailed it across a paperweight next to his nameplate, “I’m curious though, how’d you figure it out?” At the reminder, your annoyance came back full force so with a groan you said, “ I didn’t. Just a guess, but now you’ve admitted it. So, please, Jed! Can you just leave my lunch alone?”
He paused. The look he pinned you with was a cross between wanting to laugh and confusion, “Your….lunch?” You looked at him like he was an idiot, “Yeah...You keep putting salt in all of my food….wait, what did you think I was talking about?” He moved his hand from the paperweight to grip the side of his desk as he laughed like you’d just told him the funniest joke he’d heard all year.
Looking at him you murmured, “Scratch that, I don’t want to know.” He calmed down enough so you weren’t being drowned out, “Just please stop, Jed. Its too expensive to eat out and I’d like to be able to use the fridge without fear of it becoming a salt rock.” He finally quieted and gave you a hard look, “Sorry, little birdie. It’s not actually me doing that, but I can take care of it for you.” He cut in again before you could say anything, “But it’ll cost you. What’ll you give me to make it stop?”
Your jaw dropped, “Give you?! Are you sure it’s not you and you’re just trying to take advantage of me here?” He leaned back against his desk as he looked you up and down, “I mean, I’m definitely taking advantage, but I promise its not me.” You pursed your lips, “You can be a real ass, Jed Olsen. What do you want?” He hummed in either agreement or indifference- you couldn’t tell, but he looked as if he was considering it.
“How about we settle on your going to dinner with me this Thursday?” You were about to yell at him until you actually processed what he’d said, “You...Wait, what?” He wanted a date? With you? You were just the office secretary. You weren’t anything special. He could have any of the successful journalists, businesswomen, or news anchors with his looks and attitude, but he was asking you out?
The fluttering in your stomach instantly said yes, but your brain was saying he was probably just teasing you. Probably noticed your crush and decided now was a good time to drag you through the dirt for it. Locking down on the butterflies in your veins you gave him an unamused look, “Jed, that’s just mean. Please don’t tease me and just tell me what you really want for your help.” He shook his head with a laugh, “See this is why I like you. That suspended disbelief.”
You looked at him puzzled, “I’m not sure that’s really a compliment.” He made no move to argue with you, just ignored you’d spoken at all, “I’m not teasing, go out to dinner with me this Thursday and I’ll take care of your little salt problem.” you thought about it for a second. Even if he stood you up or made fun of you for saying yes, a deal was a deal and you really wanted to be able to eat your food again, “Ok. As long as you take care of the problem.” The smirk on his face might as well been like you’d just made a deal with the devil, but you couldn’t find it in you to be mad. Not if the devil looked like him.
“Sure, Birdie. I got it for you.”
It was the next day, a little about an hour before lunch when Jed was walking over to your desk. You were on a call but made eye contact with him to acknowledge his presence. He leaned against your desk and patiently waited for you to be finished.
When you were he reached over and tucked a stray strand of hair behind your ear, “Its all taken care of, doll. Lunch is back on the menu and so is our date. I’ll pick you up at 7.” He was walking away before you could say anything. You were grateful but still suspicious. That was so quick maybe it really was him and it was all a rouse….but you’d landed a date with him, so you’d willingly ignore that fact….wait, he doesn’t even know where I live.
Somehow, regardless of that, he was still standing at your door, Thursday night at 7 pm on the dot.
