it was the day after their one month anniversary, and the couple had been snuggling up to each other on the couch watching a movie. it was a good thing that aurora had her own apartment because they would’ve been easily caught by the other members if they were living in the dorms.

“when are we gonna tell the boys we’re dating?” aurora thought out loud.

“whenever you want to,” joshua answered nonchalantly, eyes still focused on the tv.

she turned her head to look at the boy, “well i think i want to. i mean we’ve been together for a month now, and we can’t keep it a secret forever.”

finally, joshua turned to make eye contact with areum. “how about we tell them tomorrow after practice? does that sound like a good idea?”

“it does,” she smiled.

so, the next day once practice was over, aurora stopped everyone from leaving to tell them their secret.

“guys wait don’t leave yet. i um need to tell you something.” areum said, glancing at joshua who was already staring at her.

the boys all stopped their actions, turning their attention to the girl, “hurry up and spit it out bro. i have places to be.” seungkwan urged.

“i- we are dating. joshua and i are dating,” aurora blurted.

“bitch, we know.” jeonghan bluntly confessed.

“wait what?” shua furrowed his eyebrows, looking between the group of boys and areum, who was equally confused.

“well…”

a couple weeks ago, aurora and joshua were in the middle of being all lovey dovey in the dorm kitchen, thinking they were slick (they weren’t). it had been 12 am in the morning, so all of the members must have been asleep. and they were, all 12 boys fast asleep in their room, all except hoshi. he had forgotten to eat dinner, so hoshi decided to go to the kitchen to make a late night snack.

just before entering the kitchen, he heard the voices of his shua hyung and areum. though soonyoung didn’t think much of it because the two had always been super close. but when he moved to actually enter the room, he was stunned by the scene in front of him. they were kissing. like on the lips. he had her leaning against the counter, hands tangled in her dark hair. he was shocked to say the least. hoshi covered his mouth to prevent any sound of disbelief from escaping and hurried back to his room.

the next day, soonyoung chose not to confront the couple, but instead chose to tell the 11 other boys. he didn’t even try to keep it to himself. so moving on from then, the members just kept to themselves the fact that two of their members were dating.

“wait. so you guys knew this entire time and didn’t say anything?” aurora stared at the boys in disbelief.

“um yea, we wanted to see how long it would take for you to tell us yourselves.” jun spoke as if it was already obvious.

“you guys weren’t exactly good at hiding it either. i mean we can see it in your eyes,” minghao added.

“it’s okay noona and hyung, we’re happy for you guys.” dino smiled at the two. the members all nodded in agreement, reassuring the couple that they were indeed not upset.

“we’ll just have to get used to you guys being so,” mingyu paused, “so in love.”

joshua stared into her eyes, face filled with joy as he grabbed ahold of her hand. “i love you,” he spoke causing her to blush. “i love you too.”

half of the boys made gagging noises, and the other half oohed and awwed. but in the end, none of their weird sounds mattered, because either way the couple knew that deep down their members fully supported their relationship.

now if you didn't see I basically had this theory that the closer to BIG and COTY we get in the DAPG timeline the closer dan and phil sit to each other. Dan made a comment about how them playing Heartthrob being like a gay soft launch and that got me thinking of some other ways they could have done it and one of those being the idea that as time goes on you get less and less strict and worrisome about what others think of you and so they end up gravitating closer and closer.

now when i initially went to collect my evidence, i was suddenly worried maybe i kinda had things wrong because i feel like in Donkey Kong Country (the first dapg video, see screenshot below) they're sat pretty close but honestly when we get to how they sit a lot later on you'll see that this is actually pretty far apart

now here are some screenshots for the inital look at at the end of them we'll talk (this will be the layout for most of this post i think)

now of course this is only a selection of those year's videos if i screenshotted them all i fear this post would never end. now these first 2 years are a good mix of at desk videos on sofa videos. i noticed from some other videos not show here that in sofa videos they rend to sit a lot closer to each other than they do at the desk, this is kinda funny to me cos really they definitely have room for a wider frame on the couch if they wanted to sit like normal people.

2016 - 17

2016 and the start of 2017 feel like a mixed bag of how close together they are but i did notice that the more into 2017 we got the more they seemed to be shoulder to shoulder! these also started to wean out sofa sitting games (not 100% gone yet but almost). now if you're wondering why i've kept this screenshot apart its cos this is the last one in the first london apartment.

and honestly from here on out is where i believe the "soft launching" begins!

watching these videos definitely feels like something changed btw, while they still arent as close as we'll start seeing them sit, i definitely noticed more often they were shoulder to shoulder. but like a new room has definitely changed the vibe a little bit between them, and now we can move on to the next and final year of pre hiatus dapg, where things as you will see immediately start to change.

what are you thinking, finn wolfhard?

everything i'm about to say aligns with my finn wolfhard is a genius agenda.

it was just made apparent to me that not only did finn wolfhard film it 2017 before season two, but he filmed his scenes as boris in the goldfinch literally DAYS before filming season three. this is extremely hard for me to conceptualize. but it also makes me think about finn wolfhard himself who obviously knows the truth about mike wheeler's sexuality. if byler is as deep seeded as we want it to be, odds are that finn knew what was up from the beginning. which makes a girl think- did he know the same about richie tozier when he first played him in 2017?

lets look at richie a bit.

richie is obviously gay. i will not be taking arguments on this. i'm reading a reddit thred right now where people are debating it and i'm like- are you kidding me. but he wasn't gay in the source material. stephen king has stated as much in a vanity fair article. though he calls andy muscetti's choice "genius" (which it is, btw), he makes it clear that it wasn't his intention. it's explicitly clear in it chapter 2, and being wired like a byler shipper, i was able to suss it out in the first movie, but was that andy muscetti's intention to begin with?

there are many ways this change can be interpreted. assuming that it wasn't something that was explicitly written into the original character description for richie in the first movie, you could see this as something that was put in as a sign of the times, a statement if you will. it chapter one was written in 2015-2016 while we were still under obama's presidency, one that saw drastic improvements for the quality of life of a gay person in america. it chapter two was written during trump's presidency and could have been trying to brand itself as a statement of sorts. i only say this because as far as i can find (and PLEASE tell me if i'm wrong) there wasn't nearly as much evidence hinting at richie's sexuality in the first movie as there is for mike or will to use a relevant example.

the idea that finn wolfhard could have gone straight from it filming (summer of 2016) to stranger things filming (early november 2016) just having played a character who he knows was in the closet and in love with his best friend in the 80s could open up new interpretation to mke in season two. oddly, the reason i bring this up is because richie tozier to me is the mirror image of a kid i was friends with in middle school. they acted the same, they even weirdly looked and dressed the same. the only time i've ever made the comparison between middle school kid and mike wheeler was during season two, specifically in the scene where max leaves them the note, which leads me to believe that he could have carried other things over from other aspects of the it production.

season two isn't what really concerns me though. i'm looking more at season three. the goldfinch only moved to production in albuquerque in april of 2018, which is obviously where finn wolfhard filmed all of his scenes. however, stranger things 3 started production on april 23rd, 2018, which means there might have even been crossover between finn's shooting dates if not at least a very short gap of time between them. it chapter 2 was filmed that same summer likely with some of it's own crossover with stranger things three dates. finn wolfhard's lack of scenes in the second movie are probably what made this possible, but the scenes that he did have tackled very delicate topics that had to be handled with care. most actors get their scripts for minor roles like this a few weeks out from filming, which means that finn could have had his scripts for it chapter 2 that very explicitly make it clear that he's gay during filming for stranger things 3.

so here he is with one gay character right before season 3 and one right after. he knows how to handle these things, which means that every move he's making, especially in season three, is most likely intentional, especially if he knows this far in advance about mike's sexuality. i think it's totally feasible that he does. i'm fifteen and i understand what was happening between byler during the fight scene, finn was sixteen and, being a part of this show, probably understood what was going on too even if he wasn't outright told. doing justice to a season like this when he was also having to figure out scenes like the boreo taxi scene or the arcade scene with henry bower's cousin or r + e was probably at the forefront of his mind.

in conclusion, i just have one question:

what does this mean, finn wolfhard?

Do you think The Great Arthurian Movie To Rule Them All will ever be made? I know many think that it's Excalibur but we do really need for this century a movie (or perhaps a 2/3 movie saga, but no more) that covers Arthur and his world from his dark begetting at Tintagel to his last travel to Morgan's realm Avalon.

Ohh how I would love it. Unfortunately, I do not think so. I AM SORRY THIS IS GOING TO BE SO LONG

It looks like the movie industry in general is not doing so good, and I do not see them investing in a movie saga on King Arthur after the past flops. I do maybe have more hopes for smaller movies (smaller in scope/plot) like "The Green Knight", so nothing that comprehensive but maybe themes used here and there.

But yeah, I feel like it could only happens if/when we first have a very big success now. Merlin BBC was very successful I feel and it kind of gave rise to a bunch of movies and attempts, but after Camelot Starz, Cursed, the Winter King, the 2017 Guy Ritchie movie - it looks like it is failure after failure.

It is a pretty harsh space nowadays. People have been "trained out" from going to the movies during the main years of the pandemic, with studios sending their movies to digital very early (and sometimes directly). And old small tv-trashy movies are in such small number, because the competition is so high - you cannot throw it on some tv channel and force people to watch it because now people choose. Movies, shows, videogames - it is harsh out there.

Regarding tv shows, I have a bit more trust, but the streaming model also killed the old build up. Now it is one season or you get the axe, and with the competition it has to be a very good show or a very big name attached to it, or someone who insists on insuring that they will have multiple seasons (thank you "The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos", I had no doubt it would have been axed on s2 without an agreement).

I do have small hopes for tv series and maybe a new Camelot musical movie still. Maybe my hopes are silly, but if Wicked is a success it would be another in a series of movie musicals that were successful or well received. And regarding tv show, if there is a popular enough novel or series of novel in the future maybe we will have one. They really dropped the ball with the Winter King.

BTW, I just wanted to say, these last few years are a on the side of the less-arthurian-media (movies and shows) years. These are the last arthurian movies, all from 2021-2020:

We have three moves in the Fate series, which is the one successful arthurian franchise, alongside Kaamelott movie (another successful arthurian franchise), then we have two animated movies that are just arthurian-themed, then "Arthur and Merlin" which is from a smaller studio, and finally "The Green Knight" which is the one big studio movie there and it was also a success (it made a few million more than what it spent).

2022-2024 no arthurian movies.

If we look from the 60s till now we usually have at least a movie a year with sometimes a year being skipped. The other longer time was 1985-1987 where we had no movies, so we only have these two gaps.

For series, I have more hopes. I actually also hope for a full arthurian anime too. We had a lot of arthurian popular stuff from Japan: Nanatsu no Taizai, the whole Fate franchise which has multiple movies and series, plus there have been two arthurian musicals in the past few years.

So who knows! Maybe the next big arthurian "full on Arthur story" might end up being an expanded Camelot musical movie, or an anime!

PERSONAL COMMENT: Man, Mary Tyler Moore AND Jane Elliot? Seriously? Elvis had no shame at all, if that is true. Well, he certainly didn't - just thinking about the fact that he was married and had a tiny little baby at the time - but which actor or musician does? Very few. I always see things like this from a perspective of real life... If people in real life cheat all the time then how could we expect that stunning people, with money and fame and all the temptations surrounding them 24/7, don't do it? I mean, it doesn't make things right but it's not something only Elvis and Mary did - and at least concerning E we all know his wife cheated on him too, at given point - so we can drop the judgmental comments on marital status here because that's old news.

What shocks me is the suspicion he was having a thing with two of his co-stars from the same movie. Okay, supposedly it wasn't at the exact same time - apparently Mary was "inaccessible", according to Jane Elliot, so Elvis and Mary didn't get along very well compared to his relationship with other actors that worked on COH, and for that we can suppose she and Jane weren't actually friends either. Trina supposes his romance with Mary was very short-lived... and then (or prior to him and Mary happening) him and Jane happened. At least E (supposedly) wasn't having a thing with two girls who were friends with each other, behind their backs and at the same time but still... co-workers! Surreal. To me this is shocking. I always believed Mary when she said she didn't have a thing with E... Jane I had my suspicious but it's still not confirmed as far as I know. But now that I learn Mary was (apparently) lying, from a reliable source, eye-witness, adding this to the rumors (some gossip from the director based on situational "proof") that E and Jane had an affair during the making of COH... this got even funnier (to be kind).

I personally believe Ann Moses when she shares many, many years later what she saw between E and Mary in 1969 - and based on pictures I also believe him and Jane had a thing going on at the same period. I'm not judging any of them here. Even if it was all true, we don't know the real situation (how that happened, why it happened, the mood between the actors…) Still, c'mon, isn't that weird to imagine that Jane might could've seen Elvis and Mary and afterwards (or at the same time, who knows?) she got together with him even so? In other situation, isn't that weird to imagine, on the worst case scenario, that E got together with Jane and then he moved on to Mary right on Jane's face? Now, they were all grown-ups, all of them knew what they were getting themselves into (hopefully). I'm just sharing my thoughts, not for a sec intending to create any kind of morality shame on those people. Just like everything about Elvis, his love life is something we have fun (?) speculating about. Anyhow, one thing is true... ELVIS AND MARY TYLER MOORE DID HAVE A THING GOING ON IN 1969.

Oh, and about Mary saying Elvis said he slept with all of his co-stars except one, meaning it was her? I've read somewhere that Marlyn Mason said the same thing. I guess she was really the only one. I'd have put my money on the conflict being Buck charging full speed ahead with the relationship (eg wanting to move in) while Tommy sort of puts the brakes because of past relationship trauma and not fully believing Buck's committed enough. BUT a bigger storyline wouldn't be just about this so I'm very curious

I see your vision and I agree I'm sure the main problem wouldn't be the argument itself, yet I don't think it's gonna be helicopter crush, but some other thing or maybe car crush or bad call, but I'm not sure it's Buck who will run too fast. Because he tried to commit to fast (Abby), to commit slowly (Ali) and commit in good tempo but because of bad reasons (Taylor) and because of different reasons it bit him in his ass. Ofc he wasn't the one who was on the blame relationship fall(with Abby and Ali it's hard to find his fault at all) but it still I'm sure it made him scared bc he doesn't know how to commit to a person as he should in good tempo bc of good reasons. I kinda feel it's gonna be Buck's problem. To be able to say why he wants to be "it" with Tommy, but not to get back to his clinging phase (also btw 8x5/6 it's time Gerard is back so maybe he will add to the problems for Buck to get over. Now i also think maybe Buck will be met with the close to Athena's situation in season 2 when she had a chance to get new higher job but she loved her life like that and only Bobby wasn't the one to tell her to go and change her life. Maybe Gerard would offer Buck smt in the other station and it will lead to Buck need to address what he wants from his future and from his life rn)

As for Tommy it's harder to say anything bc we don't know his love life story except that he came out only in 2017. There's a lot of hcs and I see Tommy as the person who had little slut phase but then tried serious relationships and bc of smt it never clicked. Is that possible he wouldn't want to be more serious with Buck? Ofc, but there's also can be that he actually the one who feels like Buck is less commited after he went over his panic and trying to chase Tommy. Maybe Tommy would feel insecure about smt

Everything is possible. Also ofc i wouldn't be so against moving in in episode 6, but my gut tells me it's not gonna be it. I think I love you scene more possible. And i bet moving in it's at least middle season finale if not the season finale. Bc how Tim and Oliver talked about this season I feel like they would try to get Buck and Tommy to get to know each other really really good and overcome some difficulties first, before moving them together(especially if they would decide bucktommy it's not it break them before they moved on together would be easier. I see bucktommy moving in together close the them getting engaged). Madney and BuckTaylor both moved together only in second part of the seasons where they officially dated (3 and 5s), bathena also moved together only in second part of the season they officially dated (2s) but yeah it was definitely faster. My bet bucktommy gonna move together around 10 months of dating, not 6 as I suspect it's gonna be in 8x5-6

SAN JOSE – Mackenzie Blackwood was about a week away from leaving Toronto and heading to the Bay Area last month for the start of training camp when he got a visit from San Jose Sharks goalie coach Thomas Speer.

The two had previously only talked on the phone, and that was after Blackwood had been acquired by the Sharks last June and subsequently signed to a two-year contract extension. So Speer’s visit gave the two a chance to get to know each other a bit better and get on the same page prior to camp.

It was also a personal gesture that Blackwood appreciated.

“That shows a lot,” Blackwood said Monday. “To come and spend some time and go out of your way to come work with me. Yeah, I was appreciative.”

Speer, now in his second season with the Sharks, is tasked with helping the team solve its goaltending woes after years of being well below average. The Sharks haven’t had a team save percentage over .901 since the 2017-2018 season and last year, that number sunk to an NHL low of .881.

So far, the Sharks are off to a better start, with Blackwood stopping 51 of 52 shots in the Sharks’ 2-1 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. After the game, Blackwood was quick to credit his teammates for keeping most shot attempts to the perimeter, but also Speer for the work they’ve done together over the last several weeks.

“He’s been good. Lots of help for me, working on keeping my game tight, not overplaying stuff, and keeping my feet underneath me a little bit more,” Blackwood said. “If you get stuck, re-adjust, and keep moving. Staying square. So just a lot of little stuff that we’ve kind of chipped away at, but it all adds up to something big.”

Not surprisingly, Blackwood will get the start again on Tuesday when the Sharks face Brent Burns and the Carolina Hurricanes at SAP Center. But with the way the Sharks’ schedule unfolds this month, with seven games over the next 13 days, both Blackwood and Kaapo Kahkonen figure to get a fair amount of work.

Speer worked with Kahkonen last season, helping to change his game and improve his confidence. Kahkonen had a .895 save percentage in his final 18 games last season compared to a .869 mark over the first 19 games.

Kahkonen played well in the preseason and aside from one goal late in the second period, Quinn felt the Finnish-born netminder had a positive outing in the Sharks’ 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights last Thursday.

“The one thing about (Speer), he cares so much about the guys he coaches,” Quinn said. “Great tactician, but he has the ability to connect with the people he’s coaching and that’s what makes him a great coach.

“He doesn’t coach everybody the same. He knows every guy’s a little bit different. … But the connection he creates with his goalies is pretty special.”

Quinn said that after Saturday’s game, no one was happier for Blackwood than Kahkonen.

“Big hug, big smile,” Quinn said. “To me, you can’t win (on the ice) until you win in (the locker room). We think we got two guys that could do that, which would make it difficult for the coach. But those are great problems to have.”

Certainly, that’s where the Sharks want to get to under Speer. who is in his 11th year as a goalie coach, working with both amateurs and professionals at a variety of levels. Before he came to the Sharks, Speer spent three seasons with the Stockton Heat, the former AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames.

“I’ve had coaches that I’ve gotten along with, but it’s nice to have a guy here that you get to spend every day with that knows the game, knows my game, and knows what I need to do. Very detailed,” Blackwood said. “And you get to know him, he’s a great guy. So far, everything has been great.”

The song is about Taylor using an affair to get away from a bad relationship. Before Midnight's High Infidelity dated the events as prior to the 2016 Met Gala and before the 1989 TV Vault had lyrical similarities it was widely accepted as about the PR relationship with Tom Hiddleston. Poor Tom was rather surprised, considering they dated for a few weeks, it was after Taylor and Calvin split up and more than a year before Reputation came out. Getaway Car is written to the muse who Taylor had an affair with, someone who is surprised and she is sorry for hurting. For context, her relationship with Calvin and his behaviour can safely be called problematic (x, x, x, x, x, x and x). CH really 'Got out some popcorn / As soon as her rep starting going down, down, down'. Her mental state:

Getaway Car is a pithy and fun but honest about poor choices. Although a year later it's closer to 29 April, 2016, with more hindsight Taylor was warmer towards to the 'other man' in High Infidelity on Midnights:

Do you really want to know where I was April 29th? Do I really have to chart the constellations in his eyes? [and] Do I really have to tell you how he brought me back to life?

Taylor also describes Reputation as a love story, many songs on which are about Harry, as are those on Lover which also express regret. I think the alleged affair would have been motivated from getting out of a situation which was not good for Taylor, however as we know from Harry's Debut it really hurt him. Lover and Folklore express a lot of regret, and I think they have both moved on.

I think this adds to a song with more storytelling that diary writing, I think Taylor was quite affected by trying to get out of the relationship with Calvin, one she's sung about little and never warmly.

You can read Jack's comments about the video. It's interesting Jack commented on why it was being recorded, it seems Taylor did that a lot in the Rep era, and TBH it seems good practice to prevent any copyright claims, she also talks to the camera to note the lyric.

Live Performances

Getaway car was the first song in the Reputation Encore, it followed the Why She Disappeared poem. The tour visuals were reminiscent of I Knew You Were Trouble, the Reputation stage is an X and shot to showcase that here. The motel is called "Last time motel" which is reminiscent of The Last Time. It ends on Taylor getting into a black vintage convertible reminiscent of Blank Space.

It was an Era's surprise song 27 May 2023, Jack Antonoff joined Taylor on stage and added a nice sarcastic "oh yeah, we're both sorry." The last time Taylor was seen with MH was the 18th May, the break up was reported 5 June 2023.

'It was the best of times, the worst of crimes' is a reference to Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities. The cities being Paris and London. This quote is in a passage that describes Taylors 2016 quite well: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, [...] it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair” It reminds me of "This Summer is the Apocalypse".

'Worst of Crimes' is similar to Where do broken hearts go "All the rest of my crimes don't come close"

"Struck match and blew your mind" is similar to "Strike a match, then you blow it out" in Say don't go. and Right Where You Left Me: "Matches burn after the other"

"Ties were black, likes were white" appears to point to the Met Gala, and I do think that is the intention of the line (and relationship) Taylor also was at the Black-tie Vanity Fair Oscar Party in LA on 28 February 2016, the day Harry tweeted (in LA) an Elvis Stuck on You Lyric "You can shake an apple off an apple tree." Harry was not at the Vanity Fair party, however he also has leaks from this era that refer to picking his muse up and driving them home. I did something bad and Sweet Creature have more on that time.

The shades were grey is similar to 50 Shades of Grey, which Taylor wrote I don't wanna live forever for about Harry. Candles are also in New Years Day "Candle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor" and Hunger "Candles burnt down to the floor"

Breathe Out which Taylor said she liked in an Tumblr post 25 June 2015 and used the melody of in Paper Rings and title in Labyrinth. It's a song and line that is sad about the relationship not working out with someone untruthful. In the 2015 timeline the timing of this post is a little interesting.

'Poisoning the well' is meaning Calvin ruined the chance of this affair by discrediting or ridiculing it, with the diss track Ole.

The line "think about the place where you first met me" is also often referred to in reference to Taylor meeting Tom Hiddleston at the Met, which again I think is with intention. Though there is not a particular reason to think someone at the Met Gala would do this.

It's also generally assumed Harry and Taylor met at the Kids Choice Awards in 2012, however neither has confirmed this, and it is simply the first time they were seen together by fans. As 2011 timeline outlines it seems Harry and Taylor were already connected then. A thing I read:

"The introduction of the Kudos/Like button at the same time as this move away from a platform designed around conversation/commenting fundamentally changed fandom from a community of equal exchange into one of consumption."

What I want say about this is that I don't think we know that's true. What has changed with AO3 vs spread out archives, Yahoo Groups, LJ posts and so on, is that 'consumption' of fanfiction has become more visible. There's a hit count on AO3 works, and the Kudos metric shows how many people clicked on the button (for the sake of argument I will accept the suggetion that kudos = not interacting with a work in any meaningful way.)

(Which is bullshit, btw, as anyone who ever got a low kudos count on a fic with a decent number of hits will tell you. It feels different as the poster of a work if it doesn't get much kudos, so I would say it definitely is different. Someone interacted! In some way!)

But anywho now you can see, at no expence of time or effort, exactly how many people clicked on the work. If you got 2 comments on a LiveJournal post you didn't know how many people had seen it, so maybe 2 was good for that unknown number of hits. (There were ways to 'cheat' and get a hit count but those I think were never that reliable? And it wasn't a feature of LJ itself.) Similarly I might be able to say that a 500-strong mailing list sent back 5 comments, but do I know how many of those 500 actually read it? In this ignorance there was some measure of bliss. Because now you know that 527 people clicked on your story, and 48 of them clicked the little Kudos button, and 1 left a comment. You can begin to see 526 of those people (or 478 if you're feeling more generous) as 'consumers' who cruelly sucked the fanfic blood from your weary veins and refused to interact with you because they see you as less than human. As a machine for making porn for them. As a - shudder! - fellow social media user!

Look I get it, we all love comments and many of us love kudos, but in the years of reading fic on archives I had to search for (RIP Google That Worked) I can remember once going to the effort of emailling someone about their fic. I got 1-2 comments that way myself. The easier it is to interact the more likely that interaction has always been. There are many days when I am just not up to commenting on a stranger's story but I can manage to click the kudos button. I say this not to excuse my poor feeble self but merely to state that removing the kudos button would not necessarily increase comment numbers, as many/most of those kudos came from readers who were never going to comment. They went with an easier option yeah but the harder option wasn't really an option sometimes, and sometimes it just wasn't what they wanted to do. Click, move on. But they did click! They could have just not! Most people do not click kudos on a fic, and this goes for any fic. Not everyone will have read the work all the way through (which is one of the flaws of counting hits as reads) but most probably did.

Also, since I did some 'research' once, I will say that having looked at comment numbers on my older fics (circa 2011-2017) they don't actually have more comments on them, or they do so only because they've been on the site for a decade and the time stamps on them reveal that two of three comments came in years after posting the fic. Weird how the grass is always such a nice bright green in memory, with plenty of comments about how green it is.

Not all fandoms have the same comment culture and of course they're not all the same size. Sometimes the drop is because you moved from 'Juggernaut Pairing' to 'Nobody Has Even Seen This Show'. Sometimes your fandom slowly died :( Sometimes there's no real reason. Sometimes there was no drop.

I think when there has been a decrease in commenting there are usually a few things at work, not just The Kudos Button. For instance: commenting to/with friends on a platform that was more social; an increase in non-native speakers reading fics in a given language; an influx of Guest readers who don't even know the kudos button is an option; BNFdom in a space where commenting is public and can create an image of friendship; readers' fear of leaving publically traceable signs of their presence; tumblr's active hostility to commenting on a post as opposed to 'muttering' in the tags; what time the latest kaiju attack took place.

tl;dr - I think OP was likely onto something with the move from more conversation-based forms of social media, but the kudos button is not the problem and it's honestly weird and needlessly heirarchical to view the people reading your fics as mindless sheep consuming your (now so much less green) grass because they're not aware that you too are a human being, and one who is worthy of more respect than you'll show to them. Unless they can level up to 'real proper human' by typing out some words in the language the fic was posted in.

"die surrounded by your friends" from the first chapter is going to turn into "all your dead friends will surround you". i am wholeheartedly convinced of this. i'm sorry, but after 3 years of having to sit through that worthless culling game arc leading to absolutely nowhere for our heroes, after realizing that there will never be a pay off for the last 100+ chapters because the whole point of the arc is now fucking dead just like that, i do not have it in me to have any faith nor hope in gege's writing skills. it's become painfully clear to me how mid that guy is at writing and how hard he is rushing towards the end. i have lost all faith and goodwill i used to hold for gege.

I on the other hand am wearing a black mini dress that was short sleeve and a jean jacket with my white converse. My hair was also straightened but I put my front two pieces up and into little clips. I was just putting on some last minute touches to my makeup.

She took my hand and led me out of my room and to the front door. We are going to Nick and Joes house which they share with a few other guys and they are the ones hosting the party. I just took a really big Writing test and not in the mood to party it all out. I just wanted to sit on the couch eating ice cream and watching The Bachelor.

He handed me a beer which I wasn’t a big fan of but I will drink it. More of a wine or spicy margarita person. Ruby went her own way so I was left alone. I made some small talk with people on my classes but they went there separate ways after a while so it was just me.

“Hey y/n!”-Nick

“Oh, hi Nick!”-you

He came in to hug me

“Hey, do you mind going into joes room and getting some extra cups? That’s where we put them.”-Nick

“Oh, sure!”-you

“Thanks y/n! Just put it in them kitchen.”-Nick

I started walking into the hallway and to Joes room. I knocked on the hard wood door and opened it. I don’t see Joe was on his bed playing with a Football.

“Oh jeez, you scared me!”- you

“Haha, sorry y/n.”-joe

“It’s ok!”-you

I stood there for a second fidgeting with my cup of beer in my hand.

“What are you doing in your room when there’s a party going on?”-you chuckled

“Not a big party person.”-joe

“Understandable.”-you

“I just came to get the cups and I will be out of your way.”-you

I reached down to get the big package of red solo cups.

“It’s ok! Dont worry.”-joe

We smiled at each other but then all of a sudden the door opened.

“Hey sorry, but I can take those of you want!”- Justin

“Oh uh, yeah thanks!”-you

“You’re welcome!”- Justin

I handed him the bag

“Bye guys”- Justin

“Bye!”-you and Joe

He closed the door

“Well I guess my job is done!”-you

“I guess so!”-joe chuckled

“So uh, are you just going to be in your room the whole time joe?”-you

“Yeah, I don’t really feel like going out there right now.”-joe

I nodded

“I honestly didn’t really want to come. I just wanted to stay on my couch eating ice cream and watching the Bachelor.”-you laughed

Joe laughed

“Not a party person either?”-joe

I shook my head

“I feel ya!”-joe

We both laughed

“I’ve never been in your room before!”-you

“Really? You come over all the time!”-joe

“Haha yeah.”-you

I walked over to his desk and saw that he got a bad grade on his writing exam.

“Joe! Why did you get such a bad grade? Seriously a D?”-you

“I know, I know, but I couldn’t study because I was having football practice really late and I was at an away game so I never got time to study.”-joe

“Well how about I help you!”-you

“Really? You want to tutor me?”-joe

“Only if you want me to, and if your grade keeps lowering you will get cut from the football team and i know you don’t want that.”-you

“Yeah I really don’t. But I think I will take you up on that offer!”-joe

“Great! You can text me when you are free and we can meet up sometime next week!”-you

“Sounds great! Thanks y/n, truly.”-joe

“Of course!”-you

I just stood there staring into joes eyes

“Um, well I’m going to head back out there.”-you

“Yeah, uh you know what I will go to!”-joe

“Really! I thought you weren’t a party kinda guy!”-you

“Well things change y/n!”-joe

“Well then let’s go party boy!”-you

I opened the door and Joe followed me out

“Let’s get you a drink! Not to much I promise!”-you

You get him a beer and hand it to him

“Here ya go!”-you

He pops the bottle open and he looks so hot

“So, uh how’s football going?”-you

He looks at me with a small smile

“It’s going good! I just wish I got more play time.”-joe

“I’ve seen you play Joe and you honestly deserve to be QB1.”-you

He gives me a smirk

“Seriously Joe! You are an amazing QB and deserve to be on a team were you can show people what you got.”-you

“Thanks y/n, that means a lot to me.”-joe

After a few moments of silence and joe and I just standing there watching the party happen our friends came over.

“Hey guys!”- Nick, Sam, Justin, and Ruby

“Hi!”-joe and you

“So any hooks ups?”-ruby

“No..”-you

“Ugh, what about you Joe? Anyone you think is hot?”-ruby

“Um..yeah but I don’t want to make a move just yet.”-joe

Joe likes someone? Who? I’ve never really seen him talk to a lot of girls.

“Why don’t you make a move? Perfect place to do so!”-ruby

“Well, I don’t think she likes me back and I want to take things slow. Get to know when better.”-joe

“Aww that’s so sweet but I would make a move if I were you, but your choice!”-Ruby

He then looked down at me. Why did he look down at me? But I gave him a small smile trying to hide my jealousy. I don’t want to be that person but I like Joe and it’s hard to see your crush like someone else.

“Damm man, good for you!”- Nick

It was around midnight when the party ended and Ruby and I decided to help clean up. Well I cleaned up. Ruby was passed out on the couch on nicks shoulder.

I was picking up the cups in the kitchen and putting it in a garbage bag when Joe came up behind me.

“Hey.”-joe

I turned around

“Hi!”-you

“I just want to say thanks for helping us clean up and for getting me out of my room. It was a fun night so thanks.”-Joe

“Of course! And you needed to get out of that room. You know have some fun for a minute, and I know you aren’t a big party animal or love to be social so it was nice you came out of your shell QB.”-you

I smiled at him and he gave an even bigger smile back.

“Haha yeah.”-joe

I turned around to pick up some more cups. The counter was a little wet from spilled drinks and liquor was everywhere.

“What to come take out the trash with me?”-joe

“I would be delighted.”-you laughed

We walked out and into the front yard to the garage cans.

“Here I got it!”-joe

He grabbed the garbage out of my hands and into the garbage can.

“Thanks.”-you

“Yep!”-joe

We stared walking back into the house

“So uh, tell me about this girl you like.”-you

“Well, she is really smart, kind, funny, and really pretty. She makes me feel comfortable and happy whenever I see her. I feel like she just has to be mine.”-joe

“Aww that’s so sweet! You should make a move on her Joe!”-you

“Really?”-joe

“Yeah! I’m sure it will make her really happy knowing our very own QB is making a move.”-you

“Yeah, I guess you are right.”-Joe

Next thing I know Joe has my face cupped in his hands and he is kissing me. I couldn’t believe it. I thought he liked someone else.

“You said to make a move party girl, so I did.”-joe

Some manga I read this year

Really fun reading in a shitty year of my life. Monster and kaze hikaru are rereads(read kaze hikaru atleast 4 times lol). Kaze hikaru single handedly convinced me to watch Japanese period drama movies and it was blast. Kaze hikaru is shinsengumi bakumatsu era story centred around a girl main character. A beautiful one with slice of life story spun around historical facts that makes reading very engaging.

Monster turned out to be so much fun I came back to being the monster addict I was in 2017. Altho my reading comprehension hasn't been any better since but wow what a thought provoking series. Although the grand scheme of things like Nina and Tenma cud have been more fleshed out towards the end? I just love the microcosm of the series is built around loving and sharing fun meals and like life is a concoction of meals we had together. It's definitely a series that is worth many reads and I wasn't wrong falling in love with it back then.

Pet shop of horrors is another gem.

A shady or not so shady pet shop selling people's dreams(?). I'm in love with count D btw.

Orcot × D felt like eroica's Dorian × Klaus with the will they won't they dynamics.

Maison ikoku is probably rumiko's tightest story with plot progression because it's important to progress the love story here. A young widow moving on in life and leading an independent life and finding love again. You get a good feel of 70s 80s Japan, the slice of life and takahashi's slap stick comedy all in one good package.

Star clock liddell.

I honestly don't knw what to Say abt this series lmao

If you are interested in Rich conversations of people talk abt metaphysics and dream psychology then this is your read. The way the story talks abt longing and broaches the dissociation of one's own psyche and somehow ties into a place of longing and belonging...idk what else to say this is so weird at the same time a good series with stellar art. This read felt like I'm drifting to dreams tht aren't morbidly scary but just unsettling and you long for a curiosity and unknown sense of belonging.

Gabai. Coming of age story set in post war Japan, abt a boy who came to saga to live with his grandmother cuz his mom in Hiroshima can't make ends meet to raise two kids.

Oftentimes phrase of money isn't everything is just hell no poverty sucks...but the story gives a balance to these two sides of it with money isn't everything when you live in a community that doesn't look down on the poor and want to exploit and hoard wealth but sharing during difficult times as neighbors, friends, teachers at school should see it as a part of their responsibility and consious to help one another. The series brought back lots of my own granny memories and the so called simple times when everyone mostly cared for one another. Raising kids is not an isolated work of parents..10/10 and honestly I feel like slice of life stories that don't have this depth and angle are just pointless at times. Giving nuance with time place and lifestyle makes so much difference.

Bokura no kiseki.

Well it's probably the best reincarnations au you will ever read. A series that makes you care abt so many characters and unearthing the past memories of a tragedy and to try co existing in the present world. It's really philosophical at places, about power money and equality. You don't knw what you are in for till you keep reading it and a lot of people keep masking and faking identity so the reincarnation mystery is very fun into this weird cat and mouse games.

Nonnonba.

I wanted to read Shigeru mizuki manga and so I thought why not a shorter one. His depiction of yokai as human emotions manifestations, and tapping into fear, insecurity, traditional folklore, and myths and misconceptions but not dismissive of a culture is very important in his stories. His pencil art detailing is what I feel like digital art might not be able to give...if that makes sense.

Dear Gene.

Yaoi manga with beautiful art. Historical and slice of life and coming of age. I like how it uses queerness as growing up experiences too, the world outside is bigger and more accepting while connecting your roots. A great read.

Sakura namiki.

The S class Yuri classic. The beautiful panelling, with back and forth tennis match between two girls and their bond and emotions flowing so seamlessly between their exchange.

How do we do relationship.

Probably the best manga of romance drama that's not just creating drama but meaningful discussion on navigating as a couple, friends and sexual relationships especially as lesbians in a hetero spaces.
