I've mentioned this before, but I've been thinking recently about drivers who knew of their wives before claiming/it not being spontaneous (so Charles and Ollie) and them preparing things for their wives/counting down to claiming. Maybe there's a few days between when they're informed/complete the paperwork and they get the all clear (even something so secretive/elite has bureaucratic procedurals lol). He gets some extra pillows for his hotel room, reserves two seats on the jet home, lays awake staring at the side of the bed his wife will soon occupy, and paces his driver's room between sessions wanting more than anything for her to be there to talk things over about the car, make everything better with just her presence, and ensure she's doing OK this weekend. Meanwhile your going about your life. No feeling of urgency, making appointments/reservations you'll never show up to (and will have to pay no show fines, rude), no idea that your "freedom"/life as you know it is on a timer with little remaining, feeling content in contrast to the man nearly salivating with desire to pluck you up and keep you. -🦢

Ollie is kind of like this, but his is much more spontaneous. Like he's been buying things but there all at home, waiting there for when he claims her.

Charles on the other hand... (under the cut cause I went on a ramble)

As soon as he realized she was the one, the one he wanted as his forever, he started buying things, saving an extra seat, asking for nicer more roomy hotel rooms. He upgrades his motorhome. The team just thinks that since he's getting just a bit older he wants more space.

Charles is watching her during the weekends, longing to just finally have her, to talk to her. It's all he thinks about, just getting to talk to her. To be near her, to feel her eyes on him.

He stares at the pillow on the other side, envisioning her laying there before he moves her onto his chest, pressing her close as possible as he breathes her in only for the pillow to come back into the focus.

He spends more time in his drivers room because he can see her in there, can see the fantasy of him coming out of the car, a little sweaty, opening the door and she greets him with open arms, lets him hug and cuddle her. Her fingers running through his hair before the fall to his neck and just gently rub, not wanting to actually do anything incase it hurts him. It's all he sees, it's boiling inside of him until finally it goes over the lip of the pot and Friday, May 17th, 2024 Charles tells the FIA official he's claiming his wife on Sunday. And really they were lucky that he gave them any notice at all.
