ok so i have this friend i used to be in a band with but we still sometimes do music together anyways we were in a band studio at school & i was doing smth on my computer n she was practicing piano and it was just like her homework for piano lessons but it was So Beautiful n then she picks up a guitar and starts playing n singing really quietly and it's like really really good? so i stop what i'm doing to listen and i'm thinking mhmmmm this guitar style sounds familiar where have i heard this before? it wasnt nick drake cos she was still in standard.

and i'm listening n she's not looking right so she doesnt know i'm like Listening listening and it's this AMAZING guitar piece like idek how to describe it but even though it was a shitty guitar all the notes were so clear and smooth. n when she's done i'm like wow that was amazing what was the song? and she's really quiet so she was like oh yeah thank you its moonshine by bert jansch and i'm like OFC IT IS AHHHHHHHHHHANHAGSNGS cos bert jansch is this folk musician who's stuff is beautiful n has such a beautiful style n like is known for his technique and i guarantee you me n this friend are the only people in the school who've heard of this guy like OFC SHE CAN PLAY A BERT JANSCH SONG OFC SHE CAn n it was SO BEAUTIFUL n she's doing it for a performance so i'll hear it againnnnnahhsjanhsjnahsjanhsn

Yoshino: “When the Court’s plans are revealed and resolved then....the Shogunate and the Rebels will fight again, right?”

Kurama: “The feud between Yoritomo and Yoshitsune is deep. It is not easy for a human to forget his hatred. When the time comes to fight again----you’ll be sad, right?”

When I imagined it, my heart hurts like it’s being torn apart.

“Hey, Xion? I know we all agreed we wouldn’t talk shop…”

Xion pokes her head up from the picnic blanket to see a bob of red hair and a face that matches her own.

“Oh, hi, Kairi!” Xion says, struggling to balance the mountain of watermelon on her plate. She hadn’t been to the beach since she was with the original Organization, so she was thrilled when the Destiny Island kids invited everyone over for a cookout to welcome Kairi back.

Kairi’s eyes dart from the blanket to the plate and back. “I have kind of a personal question, if you don’t mind.”

“Wait, so is it a personal question or a keyblade-wielder-journey question?” Xion asks, giggling.

Kairi smiles. “Both, I guess.”

The girls move to a large piece of driftwood nearby and take a seat. Xion shovels watermelon into her mouth and nods to say “go ahead.”

“Why do you look like me?” Kairi asks. “I know it has something to do with Sora’s heart and memories, but honestly that could apply to a lot of people here, and they usually look like him, not me.” As if on cue, Ven muttering something about finding Lea’s frisbee.

“Haha, you’re right about that.” Xion gulps down her remaining bite of watermelon and places her plate on the sand by her feet. “Remember the replica stuff? Back when the organization – the first one – was making replicas, I was one of the first ones. I was supposed to be a replica of Roxas, but our connection to Sora and his memories of you got all twisted up in the process. So I ended up with my own personality, but with your looks. Which I’m really happy about, by the way! You’re so pretty, and I’m glad I ended up being a girl.”

“Aw, thank you! And that’s pretty much what I thought, but it’s nice to hear it from you.” Kairi’s face shifts to a scrunch. “Wait, does that mean your trans?”

“Excuse me?” Xion says, with a curious twist of her head.

“Sorry!” Kairi rubs the back of her head apologetically. “That’s not polite of me to ask.”

“Oh no! I just don’t know what that means! I’m still pretty new to the world, all things considered. There’s a lot I don’t know yet.”

Kairi’s eyes light up with excitement. “Oh! Ok so, basically being trans just means you ended up with a gender that’s different than the one you were assigned. So for example when my dad was a kid, everybody thought he was a girl. But as he grew up, he realized that being a man felt better.” She holds an identity in each hand, as if weighing the options. “So he’s trans!” she says with an enthusiastic clap. “That just sounded similar to what you said. You don’t have to call yourself trans if you don’t want.”

“Hm.” Xion closes her eyes for a moment “I like it! I think that fits me, actually,” she answers with a toothy grin. “But, you said it wasn’t polite to ask?”

“Well,” Kairi pauses to find her words. “It isn’t really my business or anyone else’s. Unless the person wants to share. My dad told me I have permission to talk about him being trans to other people, though. He says that if the mayor is trans, that’s a good example for trans kids.”

The girls listen to the rest of the cookout revelry in the distance. Lea is recounting some dramatic story to Terra as Isa, deadpan, is correcting some of Lea’s wilder details. Terra is barreled over laughing.

Kairi smiles. “You can tell those two have been friends for a long time. It must be fun to hang out with them all the time.”

“Yeah.”

At the end of one of his trademark eye-rolls, Isa catches Xion’s gaze. He quickly looks down and turns back to his conversation.

Xion winces.

Kairi notices.

“Xion? You ok?”

Kairi searches Xion’s face for signs of distress as she replies, “Yeah its just… Isa and I…” Xion trails off, her eyes tracing the palms trees in the distance.

“Hm.” Kairi turns back to face the laughing group ahead of them. “You know, when Axel and I first started training together, I didn’t trust him at all.
