OMG AZULA AS A QUEBECER????? ITS FITS. MAYBE EVEN AS A TORONTONIAN?? IDK BUT STILL I SEE THE VISON. AND KATARA BEING FROM ALBERTA!!!
MHM MHM! small town katara and city girl azula meeting at a uni in Toronto where everything goes down.
I’m thinkinggg katara and azula would first know of eachother through zuko and sokka who’d be in the same frat but bc zuko and azula aren’t on good terms, katara’d be kinda ambivalent towards her.
and obvi azula would be catty and snarky and trying her hardest to convince herself that no, she does not find the captain of the school’s ice hockey team hot and no she does not schedule her skating sessions around the time katara gets done practicing so she can see her all sweaty with helmet-mussed hair nooooooo
🙈🙈🙈
#hmmmmmmmmmmm#thoughts thoughts loads of thoughts#we gotta have the whole gaang there too#and mai and Ty Lee!!#what do you think their majors would be?#azula maybe business… planning to take over her dad’s company#katara maybeeeee kinesiology? pre med?#azutara

Au where:
Zuko sides with Katara and Aang, but Azula still wins. Zuko is left behind to try and gain time for them and is captured. He is brought to the FN as a prisioner, but we get a scene where Azula forbids anyone from talking about what happened in the cavern. Zuko is put in his prince room and is confused when people come to dress him in royal robes. He is summoned by his father and Azula is there with a grin, and proceeds to tell Ozai how without Zuko she would never have mortally striked the avatar, and how he handled the multiple benders well. Ozai praises both of them and says he expects more of this heroic behaviour from his children.
Zuko confronts Azula and she pins him to tell the deal. He steps out of line, she snitches on him, and he would have to be with her at all times. He would never make it out with her intense security. She takes him to the spa, to the theater, to the music restaurant, and they even have fun in a festival. Zuko is gradually confused because Azula is not being mean or treating him as a prisioner. He finds out that she also has no security on him and almost chuckles as he mutters 'Azula always lies, after all'.
Then the beach episode happens and since he's seen so many more sides of his sister, he speaks up and tells her she is not a monster. This formally ties their bond.
Meanwhile the gaang is freaking out bc they gotta make sure Aang survives but also how tf are they gonna save Zuko oh gosh he must be suffering si much. Lol.
It's only after talking to Azula that Zuko goes to see uncle Iroh, who is surprised to know Azula is helping Zuko see him (yeah I didn't want him to be the asshole in this one) but you know, whatever. They find out about Sozin and Roku's secret together and have a heart to heart where Zuko convinces Azula to come with him help the avatar.
In the day of the black sun they escape but not without Ozai berating them. Zuko stands his ground while Azula is petrified in terror and shown as a victim of abuse being *surprise* abused. Zuko deffends her, and when Ozai shoots him, Zuko has to phisically keep Azula away because she literally tried to jump in front of him.
Azula is injured, but they manage to escape. Katara and Sokka find them on their way to escape after the faillure and Azula reveals secret passages that can help, wich has Aang 100% trusting her.
If in canon Katara is mad at Zuko, here she is absolutely nuts with Azula. It takes some hard convincing and harsh words in order to get her to bond with the fire siblings. Azula is either way too shy or way too oversharing and still struggles with the whole 'leaving abuser behing' thing. The one to go after them in The Boilling Rock is Mai, who is furious with both but ends up letting them go.
Both siblings help Katara in TSR ep, and Toph absolutely adores Azula. Azula is so confused by this.
In the final Agni Kai episode, the tone changes because Ozai is still there when they arrive in the palace, and manipulates Azula into helping him. He says harsh things and convinces her that Zuko is just using her to usurp the throne. She falls for it and cries the entire battle. When she loses and Katara finishes making sure Zuko isnt in *dead* state she runs over to Azula and hugs her. Zuko limps towards them and joins in.
Also we get Azula shooting lightning at Zuko and Zuko redirecting at her, then she redirects it at him and so on so on untill she just, y'know, dodges and shoots him a new one.
In the end she is there with the gaang drinking tea and looking sheepish. Sokka jokes about her semi-betrayal and gets slapped by Zuko, Katara and Toph. They all hug in the end and no kisses happen. The end. Oh, and the fire siblings rule together with the title of Dragon Throne.

Some notes about my previously stablished Gotham AU where Oswald adopts Jason and we do not question the chronological confusion of it all:
[I call it the Angry Bird Fam. ]
- In S1 Jason is seven and runned away from his abusive father. He is living in the street for a while and being stealing places for even longer (if you count the times his parents used baby him as a distraction to steal places his whole life even).
- He is bold baby and completly unhinged and since there is no Batman yet, Jason decides to do the next stupid thing and steal from Oswald's club (who he still thinks is Fish's because he is seven and too young to be atualized in gang wars).
- Oswald is not Bruce and stealing from him does not mean instantanious adoption. Though he has a tiny bit real small moral compass and killing a seven years old it's too much. So he is planning on scaring the kid when someone on the bar starts being mean to his mother. Oswald is going to murder him when to his surprised thief baby just knees the guy in the balls because "ye being a meanie fucker" . Now that impresses him.
- Oswald is like, okay gotta pay the child, maybe hire him to do some easy shit and tell him not to rob me. Easy. But Gertrud is like "such a cute gentleman you and your parents are invited to dinner" and Jason it's like "Don'wanna". And somehow this ends with Jason staying with the Cooblepots.
- Oswald is still planning his gaang war and Maroni is still pissed and since antagonizing Gertrud didn't work, he pays some guys to give Jason a scare, because he isn't murdering a seven years old to get to Oswald just yet.
- Jason notices that there is someone following him around, as a seven years old he concludes it is vegenfull monsters trying to get him for some reason. He does not tell anyone cause he does not trust adults and he is very afraid of losing his place with the Cobleppots.
- But them during the night one of the guys invades Jason's room by the window and he runs out and goes pester night owl Oswald and pretend everything is peach. The two bond and Jason admits there is a monster in his room. Oswald ofters to kill the monster, gets surprised it was actually a guy, than killls him anyway cause dude slays. Jason sees it and that starts his idea that murdering bad people it's a-okay. Witch he would have even with a father figure who was the extreme oposite and defended that even the Joker shoudn't be murderer.
- Jason starts school and while he should be super late, he like all bat-kids is a genius and is actually advanced. He also loves school, cause they have books. Jason teachers are very mean to him though cause he is a "problem student" and former street kid. So Oswald goes to the school with blood on his shirt and threatens to kill Jason teacher with a stappler. Normal pareting.
- Jason still the anti-hero talks about a kid being bullied. And Oswald tells him to drop his classic advice of "push one of the bullies down the stairs and make the teacher belive it was the other bully". Jason, the mad lad does it. He starts being homeschooled after.
- The gaang war finally comes. And now Oswald is the King of Gotham. Jason is a very proud, cute and supportive lil' prince.
- He hangs with Cat a lot during this time. Since she spends some time in Oswald hangout and there isn't many kids available.
- When Jim visits to ask Oswald for a favor, Jason is having a little birthday party (Oswald wanted to do something bigger, but Jason asked not too cause crowds still make him ubconfortable). Jim is very confused. And they have a very dark conversation where Oswald basically sends him to murder a guy just like cannon, except this time the background includes ballons, a cute penguim themed cake, a cuter now eigth years old with his part of said cake in his face, some kids he befriended in his short school stand, Cat, an oblivius old lady, a weirdly happy Victor Zsaas eating cake and taking with an unconfortable Butch and some disstressed hitman using party hats. When Jim yells at Oswald, Jason fake cries about the mean man at his party. The whole thing is more traumatasing for Jimbo than being calledout by Bruce and killing the guy.
- Unfortunally that is Gotham and Oswald, so after a bit Galavan decides: "hey let's kidnnap Penguim's mother". Jason tries to defend her. He even bites a gooms finger off. But he is a tinny child - albeit a vicious one - and they are armed guys so they just hit him and he passes out. Fortunally they don't kidnapp him.
- When Galavan admits to having Oswald mother, with proof and tells nothing of Jason he is even more concerned. He finds Jason unconcius on his mother's home, takes the kid to the hospital and promisses to Jason he will rescue Gertrud and kill Galavan. He also assures the kid he is great and did nothing wrong. Butch warns Oswald about making promisses he can't keep. He tells Butch to shut up.
- Oswald still kills people. Still cuts Butch's hand of and Gertrud still dies. While he is still very angry and plotting his revenge, he gambles the favors Jim owns him and (via Gabe cause he knows if he appears personally Jim will just arrest him) sends Jason to the Gordon househood.
- Jason is grieving and unhappy and he will take it out on the wolrd. The world on the moment it's Jim Gordon. He tries to run away from his and Lee's custody to try go kill Galavan a LOT. He also is just a general menance. Lee helps him a little. So he starts being nice to her. But not to Jim. He is very mean towards Jim.
- When Oswald finallt does his move against Galavan and gets shot, Jason is terrified. He runs away - again - but this time instead of murdering Galavan his plan is to find Oswald. Fortunally after being catch by Harvey and sitting in the waiting room of the GCPD, Edward Nygma notices what it's going on and he is trying to make Oswald happy, so he does a child delivery.
- Jason makes the whole process easier because not only Oswald still has someone that cares about him/that he cares about but Jason is also grieving Gertrud, they help each other so Ed never goes on about how "love is weakness". Witch is great cause Jason would have found it very dumb.
- Oswald does send Jason to buy some groceries before he and Ed start their torturing session because while he thinks Jason is old enough for murder, torture is too much. He does promise to teach Jason some knife moves when he cames back though.
- Since he saved Jason's only familly, the kid sees Ed was a superhero and let's it very clear. Edward was not prepared for it, but he isn't complaining, specially when he discovers Jason's love for books and how smart the kid is. The three of them are weirdly domestic during Oswald stay at Ed's.
- It's important to note that Jim is now looking for Jason, all while suspecting Galavan, trying to find Oswald and investigating Kristen disaperance. He is overworked and needs a vacation. Instead he kills Theo.
- Jason really tries to go to the murder Galavan/save Bruce Wayne ordeal but everyone was like: "hell no". So he stayed with Ed. Wich is fantastic cause if Jason meets Bruce I'm sure this world will explode together with everyone's suspenssion of disbelief.
- He was very proud of Oswald when he learned about the umbrella in his throat bit though.
And I will end here for now. But I will soon cover the rest of S2 and S3.

instead of you [part fifteen]
pairing: [best friend’s brother] tom holland x college!reader
summary: you didn’t expect to spend your summer pretending to be your best friend’s girlfriend- then again, you didn’t expect to fall for your best friend’s brother, either.
warnings: swearing, alcohol consumption
word count: 1.7k
series masterlist
Don’t tell Sam. Sam. SAM.
“Shit.”
You had to fix this in a matter of seconds. Should you slap him? Act like nothing happened? Pretend you were drunker than you actually were and play dumb?
“Wait, you’re not Sam?” you squinted your eyes like you were trying to see who was in front of you, acting like you were too drunk to remember who you were with. “Oh my god.”
“Y/n, I’m so sorry,” Tom tried.
“I-” you didn’t know how to respond. “Why did you do that?”
He ran a hand through his hair and shook his head. “I don’t know, it didn’t mean anything!” You’d be lying if you told yourself that didn’t sting a little. If he didn’t have any sort of feelings for you, why would he kiss you? “I wasn’t thinking.”
“No, you weren’t.”
“I’m sorry,” he repeated. “Please don’t tell my brother.”
“You want me to lie to my boyfriend?”
“I mean, is it lying if you just don’t mention it?”
“It’s a lie of omission- are you really going to debate me about philosophy right now?”
“Then yes, I do want you to lie to your boyfriend because if he finds out he’ll never speak to me again.”
“You realize what kind of position that puts me in?”
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Yes.”
You couldn’t even think straight. Feelings of confusion, panic, anger, and regret fought for control of your conscience. “What if someone had seen us? Taken a picture of us? You’re a public fucking figure, Tom. That could’ve put your career at risk.” “Don’t you think I know that?” he growled. “I don’t need you to lecture me on how stupid it was.”
“You’re an asshole,” you scoffed.
“I know.”
You stood from the table to leave, hoping he wouldn’t follow you, but he called after you, your name echoing in your ears like a warning. Reluctantly, you turned back to face him with a bitter taste on your tongue.
“You won’t tell him, right?”
You stared him down for a moment, watching nerves etch themselves onto his features before answering. “You don’t have to worry about it.”
It was a promise you didn’t want to make, but you felt like you had no other choice. You hadn’t just broken the ‘no flirting’ rule, you’d blown straight past it into completely uncharted territory. And technically Tom had been the one to initiate, you hadn’t kissed him back, but you couldn’t say you hadn’t felt something when he did.
You had never lied to Sam before- at least not on this scale. You felt sick to your stomach, and it had nothing to do with the alcohol.
You almost didn’t want to go back to your room. You urged the elevator to go as slow as possible as you checked your appearance in the reflective wall. The tarnished gold was smudged with handprints, but you were still able to make out your ruined lipstick. You weren’t sure it had been messed up sometime during dinner, or if it was Tom’s doing but you couldn’t take a chance. You used your thumb to wipe away the evidence as the intercom on the elevator let out a ding to let you know you’d reached your floor.
With a shaky breath you pushed yourself into the hallway and forced yourself to put one foot in front of the other to walk to your room. You didn’t have a key, so you had to knock. You half-hoped Sam was already asleep, even if it meant you’d have to spend the night in the hallway.
But as luck would have it he was still up and he opened the door seconds later. He was definitely out of it, blinking at you to put you in focus.
“There you are,” he said tiredly, rubbing one of his eyes with his hand. “I was wondering when you’d come up.”
“I hope I didn’t keep you up,” you apologized as you breezed past him into the room.
“Nah, I was just messing around.”
A lie, you knew, but you let it slide knowing you were keeping a much bigger secret. He was already dressed for bed in his boxers and one of your t-shirts and his hair was wet from a shower.
“Are you okay?” he asked, noticing your anxious energy.
You nodded. “I had too much to drink.”
“Ah, me too, I think. Come take a shower. It’ll help.”
You took his advice and tried to sober up in the shower, letting the cold water run over your bare skin until you were shivering. When it didn’t make you feel any better you turned off the faucet completely and dried off, wrapping a towel around your body and sitting on the edge of the tub.
“Y/n?” came Sam’s muffled voice from the other side of the door.
“Yeah?”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
You sighed. Why did he have to know you better than you knew yourself? You pushed yourself up from the tub and opened the door.
“I had like three more shots after you left,” you mumbled.
The color drained from his face as he took in this additional information and he frowned. “Jesus, I thought I was drunk. Do you feel sick?”
“Not yet.”
“Okay, well let’s go to bed,” he urged. His accent was always thicker when he was drunk, and in a funny way it sounded like home, like all of those Friday nights back on campus.
Sam gave you space to change into your clothes for bed and crawled under the covers to wait for you. You dressed yourself, hung your towel in the bathroom, and shut off the main light before feeling your way through the darkness over to the bed.
You managed to get your drunk ass in bed without tripping which you considered to be a miracle. Sam slung his arm across your stomach as soon as you settled on the mattress and pulled you against his hip. You tensed underneath his touch, but he didn’t seem to notice.
You couldn’t relax no matter how hard you tried, and sleep taunted you for hours, hovering just out of your reach.
Sam’s alarm woke you from restless dreaming some hours later, when the sun had barely brushed the horizon.
You groaned and rolled over onto your stomach, burying your face in your pillow. Your head was pounding and you didn’t even want to think about facing Tom. The simple motion of rolling over had made you nauseous and you knew that standing up was going to be a whole nother ordeal.
“Come on, love,” Sam said, nudging you with his knee. He was already sitting up, rolling the tension out of his neck from a night on the stiff mattress. “We gotta be downstairs in a few minutes.”
Tears pricked at the corners of your eyes and you felt pathetic. You didn’t have the strength to be around Tom today, especially with Sam right there.
“Don’t feel good,” you moaned.
“We’re all hungover,” Sam sighed. “We’re not even doing that much walking today.”
You turned your head enough for him to see the tears running down your cheeks and he pursed his lips, expression turning worried.
“Oh.”
“Can you make something up?” you pleaded.
He nodded. “I’ll tell them you have a fever or something.”
You swallowed your shame and squeezed your eyes shut, whispering thanks into his shirt. Sam kissed your forehead and then got up. You vaguely heard him moving around the room getting ready, but drifted in and out of sleep as he did.
Once he was dressed he softly told you goodbye, that he hoped you felt better, and that he’d bring you back some food later on.
The door clicked shut and you let your guilt continue eating you alive.
You wondered how Tom would react when Sam told his family you weren’t feeling well, if his face would give anything away. He was an actor, he should be able to handle it. But you also wondered what he was feeling, if he felt as guilty as you did- or even more so. Or maybe he wouldn’t even care. You never knew when it came to him.
You rolled onto your back and propped yourself up on a pillow, using the free time to respond to some messages from friends and family. It was the middle of the night back in the States, but at least they’d wake up knowing you weren’t dead. To be fair, everyone knew your communication skills weren’t the best so they probably weren’t expecting anything from you anyway, but you still wanted to put in the effort.
The rest of the day passed by quicker than you would’ve liked. You spent it in bed, tossing and turning as you desperately tried to fall back asleep. You kept pushing the blankets off of you, then burying yourself beneath them again, flipping between hot and cold. Maybe you really did have a fever. Your clothes were suffocating you so you ended up stripping and dropping them on the floor by the bed.
By the mercy of some higher power you were able to nap for a couple of hours scattered throughout the afternoon, but by dinner time you were wide awake again and passed the time by watching Avatar: The Last Airbender in Italian on the hotel tv.
It was playing an earlier episode, the one where the gaang visited Kyoshi Island. You couldn’t understand any of the dialogue, obviously, but you still found comfort in the familiar scenes.
There was a knock on the door suddenly, startling you out of your focus. You jerked your head towards the sound and scrambled from the bed. You slipped back into your t-shirt, but didn’t bother putting on pants before opening the door because you figured it was just Sam. And it was. He looked exhausted, but in the best kind of way and was holding a styrofoam container of food that was presumably for you.
“Forgot the key,” he said sheepishly, offering you the food. You smiled and took it from him, stepping aside to let him in.
He didn’t take your cue, instead he stayed where he was standing in the doorway awkwardly. It was then that you realized he wasn’t alone, that his older brother had been standing behind him the entire time.
Sam offered no explanation, only shrugged like he didn’t know why he was there either.
“Tom?” you asked, awaiting an explanation for yourself.
“Can we talk?”

Hi, first off I ship Zutara and I come in peace. I was pointed your way by a friend when I asked for people who ship kataang who are nevertheless willing to hear different views. I have lurked on blog a week and finally got up my nerve to ask how you or any other Kataang can deny that the last part of book 3 was completely Zutara but then stopped abruptly with no buildup? You can finesse tone on text so I'm not being sarcastic or bitchy, it is a serious question (1/5)
In The Southern Raiders, Katara realizes she has been wrong about Zuko. In Ember Island Players, she realizes Aang is not as mature as she thought he was, and in the finale, Katara does not care a whit that Aang is gone. I am serious and as someone who is no Aang stan but likes him, I’m actually annoyed by how little anyone cared about his disappearance. It went from “Aang’s gone!” to “Okay whatever, let’s find Iroh so he can kill Ozai.” (2/5)
Katara was all over Zuko (honestly, again not being a jerk) in the finale until for whatever reason, she wasn’t. She was giving him a pep talk about Iroh, she was going with him to Azula, she was healing him and saying he saved her not the other way around. I genuinely don’t get why this isn’t seen as romantic. I will grant you that Zuko would not have allowed Azula to kill anyone but I feel the point here was Zuko realizing his life was pointless if Katara was killed. (4/5)
And then literally at the end, Mai shows up after Zuko not talking about her at all for six episodes and declares herself Zuko’s girlfriend. And Katara kisses Aang after being annoyed with and by him arguably since The Southern Raiders. I get that Kataang “won” and I’ve made peace with that, but ... I can’t understand why Kataang shippers are okay with such a crap story. I swear on my gmom [sic] if they’d done this for [Zvtara], I’d be mad as hell. So I don’t understand, I really don’t. (5/5)
As always, I shall begin with a disclaimer: anon, you do not have to agree with this post. No one has to agree with this post, as it is strictly my own thoughts on the subject matter raised here! As per usual, I will not be putting this in the main tags - much less the Zvtara tag! - because I have basic fandom decency, lmao. If you (the general you, not anon specifically) do disagree with this post, that is totally fine, I simply ask that you are polite in expressing your disagreement (if you choose to do so at all! no one is expected to, lmao. i promise).
Alright. Formalities are out of the way!
I’ll admit I giggled a little bit when you say you lurked on my blog for a week, because I’ve actually talked about this subject numerous times in the past! I just found it funny you hadn’t stumbled across any posts about it yet, lol. So, as a heads up, know that I will be providing several links in this post since - again - this subject and related subjects have been analyzed a multitude of times before. I highly recommend reading them all! Mostly because I don’t intend to spend forever restating what’s been said over and over and over lmaooo. I will provide the resources, but it is up to each individual to take advantage of them.
To begin: your ask actually contains a few logical fallacies, anon! I do not mean this as shade or to belittle you - I fall victim to this issue all the time myself. Anyone who writes analyses or participates in debates does! Humans are imperfect and often like to cut corners to reach a conclusion. It is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about because - as the existence of your ask in inbox indicates - you are willing to learn more. So kudos to you, my friend!
Alright. So what logical fallacies am I talking about here? (For the record: specific definitions of logical fallacies were taken from here.)
1. Hasty Generalization.
“A hasty generalization is a general statement without sufficient evidence to support it.” Numerous claims are made in this ask that I have absolutely no doubt you believe to be true, anon, but there really isn’t any concrete evidence to support it! I will go into more detail later, of course, but let’s quickly look at one example:
“In Ember Island Players, [Katara] realizes Aang is not as mature as she thought he was…”
For the time being, I will ask but one question: from the show itself, not fanon, how do you know this?
2. Causal Fallacy
Ah, this guy. My own worst enemy, tbh! “A causal fallacy is any logical breakdown when identifying a cause,” of which there are several types. “One causal fallacy is the false cause or non causa pro causa (‘not the-cause for a cause’) fallacy, which is when you conclude about a cause without enough evidence to do so.” In your ask, you claim:
“I will grant you that Zuko would not have allowed Azula to kill anyone but I feel the point here was Zuko realizing his life was pointless if Katara was killed.”
Again, for the time being, I will ask only one question: from the show itself, not fanon, what led you to believe this statement?
“Another kind of causal fallacy is the correlational fallacy also known as cum hoc ergo propter hoc (Lat., ‘with this therefore because of this’). This fallacy happens when you mistakenly interpret two things found together as being causally related.” In your ask, you claim:
“Katara was all over Zuko (honestly, again not being a jerk) in the finale until for whatever reason, she wasn’t. She was giving him a pep talk about Iroh, she was going with him to Azula, she was healing him and saying he saved her not the other way around. I genuinely don’t get why this isn’t seen as romantic.”
I will ask one question: from the show itself, not fanon, why would you believe these are indicative of romance? (Consider the context the show is situated in, too - e.g. the war, Katara being Azula’s only available match in skill, etc.)
The reason I bring up the issue of logical fallacies is again not at all to make you feel bad, anon!! You were simply trying to express your point to me and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to do so. See, your ask actually presents a larger fandom trend:
Misconstruing fanon as canon.
What you have offered to me, anon, are fanon conclusions. To clarify: there is absolutely nothing wrong with fanon. I adore fanon interpretations (an example I have used in the past is Kuzaang - like, I don’t care that there’s no canon basis! I do what I want lmao!), but a line has to be drawn between exploring fanon interpretations and expecting everyone to take that fanon as canon. Again, anon, this is not your fault! It is not any one person’s fault, lmao. It is an issue of fandom as a whole, and all of us fall victim to it.
With that in mind, I will break down the different components of your ask. I will also do my best to be brief - as aforementioned, I and others have analyzed this issue numerous times before, lmao. To avoid confusion, it would be best to read through each or at least most links as they are provided!
Firstly, there are two posts I have made in the past that almost directly answer your overarching question here in this ask. Please read them prior to continuing, as I will occasionally reference them:
This post explains how Zvtara was not built up from TSR/EIP-onwards, and how their supposed “canon enemies to lovers arc” is a completely fanon construction.
This post explains the issue of the “canon Zvtara” rhetoric from rabid zkers (and you, anon, are absolutely NOT one, in case you were worried).
Alrighty. With that out the way, let’s get into it!
“In The Southern Raiders, Katara realizes she has been wrong about Zuko.”
Gotta start by saying that TSR is not about Zuko. TSR is, first and foremost, about Katara. Katara does not realize she was wrong about Zuko, because here’s the truth - she wasn’t wrong about him. Zuko did horrible things to the Gaang. Katara was not wrong to hold him accountable for that. What Katara does realize is that holding such rage so close to her chest is bad for her. This rage was not solely anger against Zuko, either; it was of course about Yon Rha, too, but it was also anger towards Kya and Katara herself. Essentially, TSR is where Katara realizes she has to forgive herself. Zuko is only one part of her journey (similar to Aang’s role in the episode, if a different end of the spectrum).
This post explains how TSR was fundamentally about Katara.
Additional resources about TSR:
This post explains Aang’s comments to Katara in TSR and how Katara herself recognized their validity.
This post explains why both Aang and Zuko were important to Katara in TSR.
This post is an extensive breakdown of Aang and Katara’s relationship within TSR.
“In Ember Island Players, [Katara] realizes Aang is not as mature as she thought he was…”
You provide no context for this claim, so I’m going to work with the assumption this is about their reactions to the play itself and the infamous kiss!
There is something important we must keep in mind when discussing EIP: the play they watch is literally imperialist propaganda. It is meant to demean the entire Gaang, and indeed it does exactly that. You mention Katara and Aang specifically, so I will recap what I have explained before about their depictions in EIP: Katara, an indigenous woman, is hypersexualized and portrayed as overly emotional (and thus “irrational”). This reinforces the Fire Nation sentiment that women of the Water Tribes are less intelligent and less suited for “responsibility” than Fire Nation women. Aang, a pacifist and the sole survivor of genocide who is also canonly the male character most comfortable with femininity and spirituality, is portrayed as a flighty, airheaded woman (this is a well-known imperialist tactic meant to emasculate the target, seeing as masculinity was often equated with power in fascist regimes; thus, they effectively belittled Aang before the FN audience). This reinforces the Fire Nation sentiment that the Air Nomads were foolish, weak people who deserved to die.
In other words, of course Aang and Katara were upset about how they portrayed in the play. It is understandable that tensions would be running high and consequently that mistakes (we all know the one) would be made.
This post explains how EIP belittles each member of the Gaang (and why the play is not indicative of Zvtara).
This post talks specifically about EIP and their portrayal of Aang and Katara.
Now onto the kiss. As everyone knows and no one has ever disagreed with, Aang was wrong to kiss Katara. Point blank!
But what people do misunderstand is Katara and Aang’s feelings regarding the kiss. Given your above quote, I assume you believe Aang kissing Katara supposedly made her realize that Aang wasn’t as mature as she once thought. On the surface, this seems like a logical conclusion! But digging deeper reveals… well, there’s nothing that indicates this conclusion at all. Even jumping ahead to the finale, when Zuko has doubts over Aang’s return, Katara demonstrates her faith in Aang (although of course she’s nervous - I won’t deny the obvious, lmao) as she says, “Aang won’t lose. He’s gonna come back. He has to.”
In other words, nothing in canon suggests that Katara believes Aang is immature because of what happened in EIP. She still trusts in his return, as she did even before she knew him (and arguably is more confident in him now, given the 60~ episodes of them growing closer). Furthermore, when Aang does disappear, Katara doesn’t have an outburst about how “immature” it was for him to “run away again.” The viewers know Aang didn’t run away, of course (fans who insist he did are not worth arguing with, anon - they don’t understand the show, rip), but that is a luxury the rest of the Gaang is not afforded. And yet even though Aang has vanished off the face of the planet, Katara still believes he will save the world. If anything, that signifies the utmost confidence in his skill and maturity!
To go back to the kiss itself, this post explains the true source of Katara’s conflict in turning down Aang (hint: she says it herself in the episode! you know, the whole war going on) and why the EIP kiss did not sink Kataang’s relationship.
Additional sources about EIP:
This post explains how the EIP kiss was resolved through narrative parallels.
This post explains how the EIP kiss is so often blown out of proportion.
“… and in the finale, Katara does not care a whit that Aang is gone. I am serious and as someone who is no Aang stan but likes him, I’m actually annoyed by how little anyone cared about his disappearance. It went from ‘Aang’s gone!’ to ‘Okay whatever, let’s find Iroh so he can kill Ozai.’”
As I already touched upon, Katara didn’t need a soliloquy to emphasize her connection to Aang once he disappeared. She trusts that he will return. She says so herself. I guess I just don’t understand how you got from Point A, Katara has consistent faith in Aang, to Point B, Katara and the rest of the Gaang didn’t care about Aang’s disappearance. It’s honestly a bit more like Point A to Point Z, lmao! If you would like to expand on your logic here, I would love to hear more!!
There are a few specific aspects I want to note about your rationale, though. You argue the Gaang moves from ‘Aang disappeared’ to ‘let’s find Iroh,’ but the Gaang actually went from:
1. Aang disappeared!
2. They search the entire island for him.
3. Okay, they couldn’t find him, so they track down June and have her try to find Aang.
4. June says to them, “No, I mean he’s gone gone. He doesn’t exist.” (And she clarifies to Sokka that she doesn’t mean dead, either - she means Aang has totally blinked out of their world.)
5. Only after all of this do they decide to track down Iroh.
The Gaang cares immensely about the fact that Aang is gone, and you could actually argue they waste time by trying to track him down. They don’t give up until June essentially tells them that some Spirit World shenanigans were involved. Even if you don’t think they reached that specific conclusion, I have to ask: What else were they supposed to do? They were told Aang didn’t exist! How are they supposed to fix that?
Well, they can’t. So they do the next best thing: they find Iroh, the man who knows Ozai better than anyone and is also one of the most talented firebenders in the world. In my opinion, that’s a very logical step to take.
I’ll be blunt here, lol: in my opinion, nothing of what you listed in your ask is inherently romantic.
Okay. I am going to assume you’ve read the first two posts I linked earlier (“Zvtara did not have an E-L arc” and “the ‘canon’ Zvtara of rabid zkers has issues”), because I do not intend to rehash everything they contain, lol. Consequently, I presume you realize by now that there was no canon romantic interest between Zuko and Katara.
And as I always say, just because there wasn’t a canon romance doesn’t mean people can’t take fanon routes! Of course they can! That’s the entire point of fanon! But fanon is not canon, and I am strictly referring to canon in my discussions.
You claim Katara was all over Zuko, which in itself I don’t think is an accurate assessment, because she doesn’t really do anything with Zuko outside the three points you bring up (other than the June gag, which I addressed in one of the aforementioned linked posts). So I’ll go ahead and break down each instance you provide!
1. “[Katara] was giving [Zuko] a pep talk about Iroh”
Katara asked Zuko if he was okay. She asked him if he was genuinely sorry. She reassures him that Iroh will forgive him. That’s… all. Not to diminish the significance of this conversation, but it’s not exactly an intimate, romantically-charged discussion (unless fanon-ized). But on that note, let’s tackle the canon significance of this moment!
Katara knows firsthand the challenge of forgiving Zuko. And she knows that Zuko understands how hard it was for her to forgive him (note: Katara’s anger was totally justified, and anyone who disagrees is probably a rabid Zuko stan lmao). She also recognizes that Zuko is terrified it will take Iroh the same struggle to forgive him that Katara went through. This scene is not related to romance at all. It’s about compassion. It’s about Katara and Zuko’s friendship having progressed, slowly but surely, to the point where she’s not afraid to extend empathy to him anymore (seeing as the first time, beneath Ba Sing Se, did not go so well; you know - Aang died and all). It’s about Zuko recognizing his own fallibility (and the audience recognizing how much he’s grown). He questions how he can even face his uncle after all he’s done to the man, which is a far cry from his entitled attitude in TSR, where he demanded to know why Katara didn’t trust him when everyone else had forgiven him.
To make this moment, this moment about Zuko’s relationship with his uncle who is all but a literal father to him, this moment of vulnerability, of guilt, of remorse, of growth, to claim this powerful moment is about a nonexistent romantic relationship? In my opinion, that is incredibly reductive to what this scene is supposed to signify. And again, there is nothing wrong with people exploring such a possibility in fanon, but in canon? Nah. It doesn’t track.
2. “[Katara] was going with [Zuko] to Azula”
Don’t forget that at first, Zuko planned to take on Azula alone. He doesn’t request Katara to accompany him until Iroh tells him that he’ll need help. As such, Zuko’s immediate agreement with Iroh is reflective of his personal growth (Book 1 and 2 Zuko would have argued and insisted he didn’t need any help). It also demonstrates, however, that Katara was not obsessively on Zuko’s mind. He doesn’t choose Katara until Iroh points out that Zuko will need assistance in taking Azula down. This means that Zuko’s choice of Katara to join him is a tactical decision, not an emotional one. And by all accounts, it’s a damn good decision! Zuko witnessed firsthand beneath Ba Sing Se a) how powerful Katara was (e.g. that wave after Aang died) and b) how Katara was the only one who could take on Azula*.
Of course, besides the fact that Katara was the only match for Azula, who else was Zuko going to choose? Sokka and Suki, while talented in their own right, were no competition for Azula. Toph, while the greatest earthbender in the world, was needed to metalbend the airships. Katara was the only (and the best!) option.
Also, on their trip to face Azula, the only thing they talk about within their three lines of canon conversation are Azula and Aang. Not exactly a romantic flight, lmao.
*Zuko never saw Aang fight Azula on the drill.
3. “[Katara] was healing [Zuko] and saying he saved her not the other way around”
Actually, this is what the transcript says:
Zuko: Thank you, Katara.
Katara: I think I’m the one who should be thanking you.
You’re right about how their lines refer to them saving each other, but you posit it as a romantic moment, when the lines are actually pretty straightforward. Zuko thanks Katara as she heals him from the partially-redirected lightning strike, and Katara thanks him for trying to redirect the lightning away from her and in doing so saving her life. In terms of canon, there’s nothing romantic about this, lol! (Which I talked about extensively in the E-L post, if you need to reference it again.) The reason being is that you have to take the show itself into context when you do analysis. If there was no canon romantic buildup between Zuko and Katara, why would these lines in canon (not fanon! fanon is free rein, lmao) be interpreted through a romantic lens?
Well, they wouldn’t be interpreted as such. Plain and simple.
“I genuinely don’t get why this isn’t seen as romantic.”
Because looking through a canon lens, they aren’t romantic. That’s all. You are of course welcome to view them as such through a fanon lens!! It’s just about recognizing the line between canon and fanon.
“I will grant you that Zuko would not have allowed Azula to kill anyone but I feel the point here was Zuko realizing his life was pointless if Katara was killed.”
I asked earlier what content in the show itself led you to believe. I have wracked my own mind, and I cannot think of anything that would point to this conclusion. Zuko was in Katara’s good graces for 5 episodes. That’s 8% of the show. Not exactly a lot of time for Zuko to start believing his life would be pointless if Katara was killed, is it?
This post explains the improbability of Zuko having a crush on Katara within canon.
This post explains how Zuko’s racism towards the Air Nomads in TSR and the finale is, well, exactly that - racism (and not a sign of a crush on Katara).
And, of course, as has been said a million times, Zuko taking the lightning for Katara out of romantic interest would completely undermine his redemption arc. Since it has been said over and over and over, I will be brief: Zuko taking the lightning is significant because it is a selfless act (one of his only in the series), and it directly parallels his selfish act of choosing not to intervene when Azula killed Aang with lightning beneath Ba Sing Se. This moment demonstrates Zuko’s growth, how he has learned to accept unconditional love from Iroh and the Gaang and Mai and even Ty Lee and sure, even from Appa and Momo, too. To make this moment of pure selflessness about a nonexistent romance? To force a fanon romance in replacement of canon redemption and canon platonic significance?
Such a decision speaks wonders about a person’s priorities, in my opinion, as well as how amatonormativity impacts them.
Furthermore, Zuko’s choice cements Katara’s position as his surrogate sibling, as she is Azula’s primary foil. Zuko chooses the sister who heals over the sister who harms. I won’t go too much into it here, because it has already been talked about extensively before! Thus, I offer you this post that explains how Zuko and Katara - in canon - are positioned as surrogate siblings as well as Azula’s role in this matter. I also offer this post that lays out through screencaps how Zuko and Katara - in canon - treat each other like family.
Additional sources about the final Agni Kai:
This post in part discusses fanon misinterpretation of the final Agni Kai and why such a lens is not true to canon relationships.
This post explains why the final Agni Kai is not intended to be romantic.
This post explains how the final Agni Kai is primarily about Azula and how reducing it to be a big Zvtara moment is detrimental to both her and to Zuko and Katara themselves.
“And then literally at the end, Mai shows up after Zuko not talking about her at all for six episodes and declares herself Zuko’s girlfriend.”
This point could probably get a post of its own, lol, but fortunately I and others have already written a few! I will link them below - first, however, I question your choice of “declares.” Technically, yes, Mai does say outright that it doesn’t hurt how the new Fire Lord is her boyfriend, but your phrasing implies Zuko resisted her proclamation. When… he doesn’t. In fact, he embraces it, asking if that means she doesn’t hate him anymore (read: he asks if they’re back on good terms again). Zuko clearly doesn’t have a problem with the girl he loves wanting to be with him again - so why do some parts of fandom so adamantly insist he does? (Not you, anon - I am referring to the rabid fanoners, lol.)
Also, regarding how Zuko hasn’t talked about Mai for six episodes, we’ve gotta be realistic with this assessment in terms of canon:
1. It was the crux of the war. They were either going to live or die. There was no time for romance at this point! Sokka and Suki weren’t professing their love on the battlefield, lmao, so it’s not exactly strange that Zuko didn’t bust into a monologue about how he missed Mai. I think they were just a little bit distracted by the possible end of the world, lol, and all that jazz.
2. Zuko probably thought Mai was dead. He knows what Azula is like. He knows his sister doesn’t have time for people who get in her way (Aang can testify to this, lmao). So can you blame him for not wanting to think about how the girl he loved had died (to his knowledge) to save him?
You gotta cut the kid some slack, lol. Anyways! Additional sources about Maiko:
This post breaks down the notion of Maiko and “deserve.”
This post rationalizes through a canon lens why Mai’s arrival at the palace surprised Zuko.
This post is the mother of Maiko metas, explaining in tremendous detail why their relationships works, is relevant to canon, and was well-implemented for what its role was.
“And Katara kisses Aang after being annoyed with and by him arguably since The Southern Raiders.”
What in canon has led you to the conclusion that Katara was annoyed with Aang? What specific moments from TSR to the finale made you think Katara was annoyed with Aang and remained annoyed with Aang? Are there any, or are you thinking about fanon interpretation? (Canon vs fanon strikes again!)
In TSR, Katara explicitly thanks Aang for understanding her perspective. Nothing there is indicative of annoyance (and as in the links provided earlier, she was not angry at Aang/Zuko/etc. so much as she was at herself. well, she was a little bit angry with Zuko, lmao). In EIP, Katara is understandably angry at Aang’s decision to kiss her, but Aang completely backs off, and we see in the part 1 of the finale that there are no hard feelings or weird tension between them. Katara in fact actively expresses concern for Aang after Zuko sporadically attacked him when she demands of the firebender, “What’s wrong with you? You could have hurt Aang!” Even when Aang and Katara do butt heads later in the episode as Aang tries to think of a way to defeat Ozai without killing him, Katara doesn’t stay frustrated. Like I said - when she and Zuko are flying to Azula, she demonstrates her unwavering faith in Aang through her belief that he will return. So… where is the annoyance that you feel was present?
With all this mind, i.e. looking strictly at canon, Katara wasn’t annoyed with Aang during this time. Thus, Katara kisses Aang because she loved him. Because he backed off and gave her the space she needed to make a decision about if she wanted to be with him (hence Katara being the one to initiate the kiss). Because the issue was never about if she reciprocated his feelings (they both knew they loved each other) but rather it had to do with the war. At the end of the finale, the war is over, and there is nothing that prevents them from being together. Simple.
This post explains how Katara’s feelings for Aang develop throughout the series (and were not neglected, as rabid zkers like to claim, for some reason? again - you are not one of them, anon).
This post also covers Katara’s interest in Aang throughout the series.
“I can’t understand why Kataang shippers are okay with such a crap story.”
I mean, you definitely don’t have to ship Kataang. It may not be your cup of tea, and that’s totally okay! But as the above links demonstrate, Kataang was a fantastic story. It was well-implemented into the narrative from Day 1. The soulmateism is unparalleled!
Also, it’s worth noting that A:TLA itself was essentially pre-written. The writers knew how the story would end from the get-go, including that the show would end with Kataang. A few Zvtara gags were thrown in to add a sense of “who will Katara choose?” drama as the show aired, but Zuko and Katara were never planned to end up together. One reason so many newer fans are fine with Kataang from the start is that there’s no tension of waiting a week for a new episode when you can watch all 61 episodes straight through on Netflix, lmao. It’s even more obvious now than when A:TLA was airing that Aang and Katara will end up together, if that makes sense. (Although I talked about this in the E-L post linked earlier, so you probably understand this point already, as it was explained in detail there!)
All of this is to say that Kataang is not a “crap story” in terms of writing (again, personal taste is a different matter) because it was woven in from the beginning and had powerful narrative significance! (Kataang represented numerous complementary components of the series, such as yin and yang, push and pull, air and water, Oma and Shu, etc.)
Now. If you really and truly want to understand why Kataang shippers like Kataang, anon, consider reading some Kataang fanfics or exploring some Kataang headcanons. I read fics involving Zvtara more regularly than you might think, lol, because… well, it’s just a ship. I understand the appeal of romantic Zvtara and I can actually appreciate it when it’s well-written! I’m sure if you’re willing to put in just a little legwork (you don’t need to go the whole mile, lmao - ‘tis just fandom), you’ll realize why people like Kataang, even if it isn’t exactly your thing. You have the range, anon!! You got this!
I hope I managed to answer your questions, my friend! As always, you do not have to agree with anything I have said here. It is totally fine if you and anyone else disagrees! Everything above is simply my own perspective on the matter. Thank you for taking the time to read my response and all the different links I provided! I hope it has expanded your understanding of the subject at hand!

Recently saw a tiktok that was like "if you ship [toph and zuko] than you have issues or you see something galaxy brained that i havent" and stumbled upon the concept of aroace Zuko and i concocted this idea ages ago so im posting it now: the epic Toph x Zuko Marriage of Convenience
Okay what you are all thinking of is book 3 Toph and Zuko, which totally dont have romantic chemistry and with the added age difference is prob why no one ever considers this ship. Four years when you're a teenager is a big difference. Four years when you're in your twenties and beyond isnt that big a deal. So they're adults and they've been friends for years at this point.
You also gotta sit back and look at what they are. Toph is the only child to a very rich and very well known Earth Kingdom family. Her family name in general is huge and carries a lot of weight but you also got her own accomplishments: Master Earthbender, the Creator of Metalbending, the Avatar's Earthbending teacher, and shes a war hero. Thats big. And then you got Zuko, who at this point is the Fire Lord. Zuko himself comes from a prominent Fire Nation family, seeing as he's royalty. He's also descended from a Avatar, but i dont think thats all that well known. Zuko is a Master Firebender, the Avatar's Firebending Teacher, and a war hero. On top of being famous both these people have credibility to fall back on.
So what im leaning into here is not exactly a marriage alliance seeing as the Earth Kingdom has its own royalty but its definitely a political move
Anyways Zuko has a lot on his plate, dismantling his dad's empire and all that. When he's nearing 30 the council is all like "you need to find a bride". Zuko writes up his ex-girlfriends and finds out they're either married or he just cant bring himself to trap someone into a marriage with him after knowing how it destroyed his mom. So he's stuck with no one of his own choosing so the council and high up nobles are trying to fix him up and not-so-subtly set him up with their daughters. Half of Team Avatar comes and visits (lets say Toph, Aang, and Sokka) and witness the behind the scenes of all this. They're having tea with Zuko and two people come in at different times and try to casually talk about the marriage thing. Toph can hear things that happen in the hallways too. Zuko is all "noooooooo guys why is this happening to me" and Sokka probably finds it funny but also a little sucky, and Aang probably hates it because "Zuko should marry for love!". And Toph is all "I know right" because she can totally relate. Her parents were looking for matches for her since she was born, and now that shes visiting again they've started back up again. Her and Zuko start swapping match-making stories ("so i come home and this boy and his father are there and my mom is all like 'Toph have you met __'" "I'm in the throne room for a meeting on road construction and this guy derails the whole thing so he can introduce his niece to me"). Later on after Toph has been listening in on the palace for a few days now and shes starting to really feel sorry for Zuko. Sokka just keeps making jokes until Toph snaps at him. Aang is pretty oblivious and probably spends all day at the market looking for souvenirs to bring home for Katara. And one night while Zuko is up late doing paperwork by candle light Toph stops by because her body cant sleep at night sometimes and they get to talking and Toph jokingly throws out "what if we just married each other? Then everyone will get off both our backs!" and they're laughing and after they've calmed down Zuko has a light bulb moment and he's like "wait, that might not be a bad idea". They spend all night working out the details to their hypothetical wedding and a day later decide to actually go through with it. Theres uproar from the council of course because Zuko didnt choose their pick Toph isnt Fire Nation nobility. And then Zuko starts listing all her family's importance and stuff and the council is forced to admit to themselves its not actually a bad idea. Plus marrying Earth Kingdom would make the Fire Lord more relatable to the colonies where theyre having a lot of problems with people of mixed heritage right now. Sokka and Aang hear rumblings of this because palace servants gossip and they're debating wether or not to believe these rumors when they run into Toph and just ask her and shes all like "yeah we're talking about it" and they boys flip out. Aang still maintains that everyone should marry for love but Toph and Zuko won't budge.
Over in the Earth Kingdom Toph's parents are ecstatic because the only better option Toph could marry was Earth Kingdom royalty. They completely endorse it and only argue to not seem like pushovers and when topics revolving money come up (ex. dowery). The Earth King gets in on this because its too good a opportunity to not capitalize on it. The Earth Kingdom is abuzz because a foreign King is marrying one of their own. Everyone is hyped and Team Avatar are the only ones who find the whole situation weird because to them its not a fairytale its their actual friends.
All-in-all they get married in the Fire Nation and the guest list was awful to make but people from all over the world are there. Toph's mother freaks out the whole time because "what if Toph falls down all those steps!" The wedding is mostly all Fire Nation tradition but Toph wears a Earth Kingdom wedding dress because everything is political now. Toph and Zuko have a relatively fun night and Sokka has the time of his life. And their marriage actually really works out for them because they're friends. They make fun of fancy people and rant to each other in the evenings. Toph is still running metal bending schools but either now they have to come to her or she gets stuck with a Fire Nation security team for like 3 months of the year she spends in the Earth Kingdom and she gets flashbacks to her childhood. And Zuko is sometimes all "i miss my wife" and the servants are all "awwww they're so in love" but the truth is he wants to talk sh*t with her and because shes blind he always has to write letters with the interpreter's opinion/gossip in mind. Toph still sneaks out all the time because shes not giving up her independence willy-nilly and is not above pulling the blind card to get out of things, which irritates Zuko sometimes because that means he has to deal with boring meetings by himself. They gaang visits all the time and by the time Republic City rolls around Toph manages to get herself sent as a "ambassador" (her and Sokka have some fun their shared meetings) and then to stay on to help set up the police force, which is a little dicy since shes representing the Fire Nation but also shes teaching only metalbending so its a controversial thing. This also gives Zuko a excuse to visit Republic City more often so he can see everyone since they settled down there.

heyyy im here to formally request you write some cottagecore tyzula fluff 🥺
hellooo anon! I am currently going through my maizulee brainrot stage and since that includes tyzula I am vv excited for this!!! (Side note sorry this is so late💀)
so I don’t know if you wanted like. Headcanons or an actual oneshot so I started a one shot and I’m going to post it on ao3 soon so I’ll reblog this with the link when im done but for now: headcanons:)
- in terms of canon I’d say they move out of the palace when they’re about twenty to twenty two. Ty Lee had a run over half a decade with the kyoshi warriors and she decides to retire. Azula is an advisor for zuko but she’s getting tired of politics after being involved in them functionally her whole life.
- they both come to each other rly nervous bc like ‘what if they don’t want to leave???’ and stuff but they both end up having the same idea and are like okay so where do we move then🧍♀
- Ty Lee suggests Kyoshi Island and Azula suggests Ember Island. Azula wants to be close so if the fire nation has political problems shes close enough to help, and ty Lee wants to be able to help future warriors learn to fight
- finally they decide on this little village right around the borders of the fire nation and earth kingdom and they’re like oh this is convenient
- Azula puts up a bit of a fight because ‘it’s farther from caldera than it is from Kyoshi’ but she’s not rly annoyed just being obnoxious
- they move in and they’re on a small hill not too far away from everyone else, but far enough they dont walk right into the village.
- there’s a river around the hill and a forest too, and it all looks very poetic. Ty Lee gushes about it all the time and is constantly inviting Mai over to write about it (keeping up the poet Mai agenda!)
- despite Mai recieving the most invitations, Katara and toph actually visit a lot bc Toph is always in the earth kingdom and whenever Katara comes down to visit they all meet up. They go on double picnic dates (okay minor katyzutoph insert im sorry 💀)
- they keep sheep at Ty Lee’s insistence bc she thinks they’re cute and likes to dye the wool for their clothes herself. - Azula likes gathering food a lot, while Ty Lee likes taking care of the animals. They’re vegetarian because Ty Lee didn’t want to kill the chickens. She got attached
- Azula cuts her hair short and wears bandanas, Ty Lee keeps hers long and usually does milkmaid braids.
- they have an awesome garden, Azula takes amazing care of it. they got carrots, lettuce, strawberries, avatar verse fruits and veggies, herbs, etc. not to mention the flower gardens courtesy of Mai
- Suki and Sokka come over and help them pain one of the walls with a mural. They paint everyone together, like the gaang and azulas angels and okay maybe it’s not amazing bc it’s sokka drawing it but ty lee loves it
- they make homemade tea :’) they buy honey from people in town and watch the sunset drinking mint tea and holding each other in front of a sunset that is suspiciously similar to the lesbian flag.
- Zuko visits and brings the most random housewarming gifts every time he’ll walk in and be like oh here’s your frog sculpture you’re supposed to keep it in your kitchen for good luck:) and they’ll be like zuko that’s not a frog and that doesn’t even fit through the front door
- (he buys the gifts at random pawn shops and hopes for the best tbh)
- the kids think they’re witches because of the herbs they grow they spread rumors and do the classic kids movie thing like ‘you gotta knock on the door to prove you aren’t a wimp’ and usually Azula scares them away BUT

Zukka Youtube/College AU
Okay so Sokka has a youtube channel where he basically posts really weird and memey videos
One of his most successful videos is him running around campus in like a full on Gandalf outfit and asking people to go on adventures with him
He and Zuko are roommates and after the initial wtf are you doing there Sokka moment Zuko found that helping Sokka with his weird videos is actually really fun and
Sokka enlists him as his camera man and co-conspirator alongside the gaang so he gets roped into the whole family and we have a nice lil found family moment
Sokka and Zuko decide to do a follow-up to the Gandalf thing and walk around Campus as Gimli and Legolas (Sokka is Legolas because he's the tiniest bit taller and Zuko has to walk around on his knees) and they pretend to be fighting orcs and they're also being really gay because I have a Gigolas Agenda™️
After that they start like doing more couples running around on campus and it just starts this whole phase of super intense gay yearning because they're comfortable with each other and spend so much time with each other and when they're doing the coupley thing they're always hugging and holding hands
Anyway, the rest of the Gaang watch this and they just see these two pining idiots and they're like we gotta do something these fuckers aren't getting anywhere
So they hatch a plan and they tell Zukka that they have the perfect idea for a skit where the couple (idk maybe Frodo and Sam) have to kiss and both of them are like oh fuck this might be my only chance so they agree
They get to the day of the shoot and they're both super nervous and the others are like setting up the camera and Aang is like do you guys want to practice? All innocent and nicely and Zukka are like wtf do you mean practice and Aang is like yea actors always do that (total lie) and everyone agrees so Zukka (being the dumbasses they are) are like huh okay I guess
So the two of them kinda look at each other and Sokka internally is just like fuck it if I get to kiss Zuko twice I might as fucking well and just kisses him and Zuko is totally taken aback and doesn't respond for a hot second and Sokka is just like fuck fuck fuck I fucked up but then Zuko's dumbass is like HE'S KISSING YOU KISS BACK
The gaang are like heck yea and turn around to give them some privacy but then they just keep going for really long and at some point Toph is like alright get a room lovebirds we gotta film and Sokka and Zuko just kinda spring apart and are like uhhhh just guys being pals
At that point Suki just fucking snaps cause she's been dealing with both of their pining for too fucking long and she just yells YOU LIKE EACH OTHER, FOR FUCKS SAKE
Sokka and Zuko stare at her for a hot second and then back at each other and are like ...you like me Sokka gets nervous and says dude that's kinda gay or something
Zuko is just like fuck it and answers sth like not just kinda and kisses him again and the whole gaang just Whoops really loudly
And then they go and get frozen yoghurt as their first date and Sokka ends up having a bit of froyo on his nose and Zuko just nearly looses it
The end of it is them being super cute and gay but also extremely chaotic and running around as the gayest couples from fiction over and over again

these ideas aren't unhinged at all i think i was just sleep deprived,, but here they are anyway
sokka was the one who hypothesised the musical-themed ending of the world and it just became one of those things in the gaang (*small inconvenience* "this is why the world has to end" or "if i don't sound like beyonce when the apocalypse starts im asking for a refund" or "worlds gonna end in a musical? gay rights")
it made suki's hatred for musicals worse and subconsciously pushed jin to join a special unit in the military eventhough she was only in the group for a little bit while she was dating zuko
after everyone started drifting apart, zuko became obsessed with preparing for the apocalypse as, like,, his last way of holding onto sokka
he tried to call sokka when the meteorite hit but the phone lines were out and then he wasn't even sure if sokka would have been affected by it bc he wasn't in hatchetfield (except what if he was bc, yknow, he was the one who guessed it was gonna happen so maybe he came back for it)
when they have the whole "where are we supposed to go? this man needs a doctor" convo yue's like "wait i know this really weird guy who lives in, like, a fortress, and he did a first aid course once- thats gotta count??" and then they go and its zuko and sukis like "zuko??" and zukos like "SEE SOKKA WAS RIGHT" and yues like "how do you know this man?"
at first he really is trying to help them stop it but then izumi calls him and she's like "hi yeah i am Still in Hatchetfield and not at mum's, pls come save me before i die" and then,,,, 'not my seed' and *my art* <3 and then zuko bolts when the military gets there so suki's the only one who gets knocked out and then she's like "yo jin?" and jins like "oh hey"
possibly i think too much
(capt-snoozles)
hEY THEO SORRY FOR ANSWERING SO LATE UYGVHIJUHGVH
"if i don't sound like beyonce when the apocalypse starts im asking for a refund" -- tHEO HE WOULD HE WOULD HE WOULD HHAHAHHA
i love the thought of sokka jokingly predicating it and then zuko taking it seriously, if only to hold onto sokka like that's so sweet i would cry
yES YOUR HEART AHHHHH
but no i love the "yo jin?" "oh hey" that's absolutely fantastic you are so big brained
and yue being the one who knows zuko jahahahaahhahahhahauyghuhgu
i love this this is fantastic the aNGST IS SO GOOD
theo your mind is so big
i love it thank you for sharing this with me this is so cool and yeah no i still cannot get over zuko clinging to sokka's (maybe) joke theory just because it was from him like ahhhhh
#theo tag#theo my beloved#this is great#working boys zukka au#corey rambles:)#i love this au so much#fanart#i also love your art#and the idea of suki having to kill izumi like ahhh#aND YUE AHHHH#again so sorry it took a couple of days iugyhui

Heyy, how are you? Sorry if I'm annoying you I just want to give a little bit of my opinion about Toph as a mother.
I personally think that Lok did something very weird with their character and how they portrayed her as mother because it's difficult for me to believe that Toph would be the kind of mother to let her kids do whatever they want AND not pay enough attention to them. Like the whole issue with her parents is that they treated her like she was helpless, they didn't pay attention to her and they ignored what she wanted. So I personally don't see why Toph would do the same to her kids, like why would she kind of ignore them by not being very present and attentive.
I belive that Toph would be an amazing mother. With flaws of course, because no one is perfect.
I hope I made myself understandable, English is not my first language and it's difficult for me to express what I think even in my own language.
Btw I love your hcs and the way you think :E
Hi Anon, I’m doing well thank you for asking, and thanks for the ask! I hope all is well with you.
And not to worry! You’re not annoying me :)
First off, I love your thoughts and opinions on Toph as a mother when it comes to LOK. You are right, I too feel that her characterization is a bit off, and I’ve talked only briefly on my thoughts about this as well. I see what the writers were trying to do, but it doesn’t really come off right if we consider Toph’s background and her issues with her parents, as well as her overall characterization.
Like, Toph Beifong is one of the most observant people in the ATLA universe. She understands what people need, she can pick up on changes in mood and tell when people are lying, and she waits and listens on the other person to move to decide what her next move will be. Toph is one of those characters that other members of the Gaang open up to, and she picks up on things pretty fast for a kid.
So why would those traits/tendencies not carry over when she taking care of her kids?
Toph’s seismic sense would most likely alert her and she would know if something was upsetting Lin or Suyin, even if they didn’t say anything to her. And sure, she’s prideful, but that’s never stopped her from asking for someone’s help in the Gaang (one scene that comes to mind is when she asks Katara to correspond with her parents). She’d obviously prefer to handle things on her own, but there have been times where she does admit to fault. So it would make more sense to me if she notices the change in her kid’s mood, try and figure out what’s wrong on her own, and if that didn’t work, turn to others.
And you’re right, ‘abandoning’ her kids would not be a flaw in Toph’s parenting style. You said it—she was neglected and not seen as her true self with her parents, and that led to the strained relationship. I think it’s safe to say that she would want to do the opposite of what her parents did to raise her, and the main point in Lao and Poppy’s parenting failures was that they only saw Toph as their tiny disabled child. So, not understanding her kids wants and needs doesn’t seem right. She reads people and observes their tendencies to get to know them, and that’s how she determines how to handle a situation.
So, if Lin came stomping home one day frustrated about something, I don’t think Toph’s instinct would be “Eh she’ll figure it out, she needs freedom.” I feel like it would be more like “Okay, is Lin sad? Upset? Angry? What does she need next in order to feel better?” And maybe her execution is flawed, but I think at the very least, Toph would ask her kids what is wrong and try and determine what they need to feel better. Maybe it’s a moment to themselves, maybe it’s a conversation, maybe it’s just comfort. But she would need to ask, and then wait for a reaction to determine her next move.
I struggle to come up with an actual parenting flaw with her sometimes, only because I love her character and like the idea of her being this amazing single mom and having a family that breaks the entertainment stereotype of “If it isn’t a nuclear family, it’s gotta look broken.” I guess one that comes to mind would be that she waits and listens too much… if that makes sense. Like, if Lin or Suyin don’t react or respond in a way that engages them with Toph, maybe she wouldn’t push the conversation further. Parenting does take initiative on the parent’s end when it comes to conflict and problems, and I think for those situations, Toph would rely on her earthbending tendencies and wait for the problem to approach her, and then she’d face it head on. An example I can think of is that Lin would prefer if her mother came to her about stuff, especially praise, and maybe since that’s not something Lin would explicitly state or something that Toph can feel, that need would go unnoticed if that makes sense.
Those are my thoughts, hopefully they make sense! And I agree with you, sometimes it’s just so hard to convey feelings and opinions into writing. Lol and I’m sure my thoughts are flawed just because I love Toph’s character so much, but I think she would be an awesome parent, and it’s a shame we don’t get to see that. I do enjoy reading metas about why Toph was portrayed as a bad parent, it helps give me some perspective on character creation and what makes them dynamic. But in my purely self-indulgent ATLA world, Toph ROCKS (pun intended) and she’s a great parent we take for GRANITE (okay I’m done now lmao).
Thank you again for the ask, and the kind words! I’m glad someone out there also likes my HC’s and thoughts lol! Feel free to send in more asks; I especially love a good question/HC about Taang, Zutara, or Sukka lol (also I'm off work today, what else am I gonna do haha).
Hope you have a great day :)

(Y/N) felt a bit uncomfortable. Being from the Northern Water Tribe, she had never been on something larger than one of their fishing boats. She had never met anyone else except for other people from the tribe. Her whole life was spent surrounded by blankets of snow and carefully crafted ice buildings. It was all she had ever known. But now here she was, on a giant ship from the Fire Nation, surrounded by people she barely knew, and sailing through seas whose warmth crept into every inch of her clothes, no matter how many layers she shed. But her being uncomfortable meant that change was happening, and change was good. Change was necessary. Change is what she wanted when she had joined the Avatar and Katara and Sokka on their journey from the North Pole.
She got along well with Aang and Katara, but it took her a bit of warming up to be able to be friendly with Sokka. He was still really hurting after the situation with Yue, she knew that much, so she had tried her best to make sure that he knew that she was there for him. And she liked to think that eventually, she wormed her way into his good graces. Maybe a little too good, since he teased her and fought with her like he did with Aang and Katara. But that was alright. She could take it and she tended to dish it right back out to him.
“Don’t you think your head’s a little big for that helmet?” she asked as he put on his Fire Nation disguise.
“I think my head is actually the perfect size, thank you.” He turned around and spread his arms out. “Lace me up?”
She sighed, crawling out of her bed to lace up his uniform. “I didn’t realize how intricate their uniforms are. Back home, we just toss a couple things on and then head out.”
“I always made sure to put my war paint on before a battle.”
“Oh yeah. I’m sure it intimidated those penguins.”
“Hey! They actually started stealing our fish once. I call it the Great Penguin War of the Southern Water Tribe.”
“Mhm. And who fought in this war?”
“...Just me.” She snickered and followed Sokka up to the top deck where they were greeted by Katara and Toph. Aang was still unconscious, as he had been for the past few days. “What d’ya guys think about my uniform? Huh?” He did a spin for the two girls.
“If I had eyes that could see, I’m sure I’d say that you look ridiculous.”
“Don’t worry, Toph,” (Y/N) said. “He does.” The girls laughed and Sokka removed his helmet, a pout prevalent on his lips. “I’m just kidding, Sokka. You look very dashing. If I were attracted to Fire Nation guys, I’m sure you’d be one of my first picks.”
“One of them?” Sokka exclaimed.
“I gotta review my options!” He shook his head.
“Fine then. I’ll bump you down to my second pick of Water Tribe girls. The first one is a pile of snow, so you’ve got some pretty hefty competition.”
“Is that a challenge, Sokka?” The boy smirked down at her.
“Depends on what your definition of a challenge is.”
Toph grabbed on to Katara’s arm and made a gagging noise. “I can’t tell if it’s the boat or whatever’s going on over there that’s making me feel sick.”

I love making picrews of my Team Avatar Yangchen or as I’ve been calling them: Team Lesbians + One (Good) Man as featured in Learning to Fly Part 6: Sands of Time
NGL at first I didn’t have intentions of drawing parallels to the Gaang. Akari was the only one fleshed out and was pivotal to the development of the whole LTF au. Huizhong was "earthbending master that died for Yangchen” and there was just a nameless waterbending master. But then I had a laugh bc here we are, Air Avatar w/ a Fire Nation Royal BFF and that’s what Aang and Zuko become... and then I was like whelp we gotta keep playing with that it’s too good to pass up. So Huizhong, Siniq, and Tarkik were born lol.
Since they’re getting introduced though Yangchen’s memoirs, which were written as a way to cope with her grief of losing Akari and Huizhong, Siniq and Tarkik didn’t get much time to shine despite the past chapter having focus on Yangchen’s waterbending journey. I’m not sure if/when I’ll be able to work in fun tidbits about these chaos twins, but they realized from a very young age that they didn’t vibe with Water Tribe gender roles. And being identical twins well... They convinced everyone they were BOTH waterbenders and switched places in all their classes so Siniq could learn combat and Tarkik could learn healing. When they eventually couldn’t keep up the act anymore, they were so established with what they were good at the chief was like whelp guess that’s just how it’s gonna go. My warrior daughter and healer son, no fighting it now. Love these two <33
Huizhong, my love, gets her spotlight in the upcoming chapter of Sands of Time, so I’ll just profess my love for this beautiful bitch <3

scars and swords: chapter 1
Y/N had been a Freedom Fighter her whole life alongside Jet, her first love and closest friend. They had been together through thick and thin, no matter the circumstance. When they decide to leave the vigilante life behind and move to Ba Sing Sei, they’re reunited with the Gaang and things take an unexpected twist.
pairings: jet x f!reader, sokka x f!reader
warnings: slight angst
a/n: it’s finally here! i’ve been working on this fic for a while now so i’ve decided it’s time to start posting it. i hope you all enjoy this story as much as i like writing it. i don’t know how many chapters it will be but it’ll be a long one so strap in! also yes this does start off as jet x f!reader but it will be a sokka x f!reader eventually just hang in there!
“You ready?” Jet said as he began sharpening his swords. Y/N nodded. They had been anticipating this ambush. She finished wrapping the bandage on her arm and headed down the treehouse.
Being a part of the Freedom Fighters meant a lot to Y/N. The Fire Nation had killed her parents and burned down her village when she was only 7 years old. She was always grateful to have found Jet. He felt the same anger and hatred towards the Fire Nation that she had. They both believed that anyone from the Fire Nation deserved to suffer. They used their skills to start the Freedom Fighters, rebels that worked towards getting rid of firebenders. Jet was skilled in swordsmanship, while Y/N had learned hand to hand combat. Being non-benders meant they had to work extremely hard in being the best at their trade.
“Let’s give them what they deserve.” Jet said as he and Y/N headed down the forest towards the Fire Nation camp. The rest of the Freedom Fighters followed behind. As they reached the camp, they saw the soldiers cornering up to what looked like some kids. Jet signaled to the rest of the group.
“Head up.” He pointed up to the trees. Y/N crept closer into the camp while everyone else began climbing the trees.
“If you let us pass, we promise not to hurt you.” One of them said. He was a boy wearing Water Tribe clothing. The other boy had an arrow on his head, while the girl was also wearing Water Tribe clothing.
“You, promise not to hurt us?” the soldier replied with a sense of mockery in his voice. Suddenly, he went down with an arrow. Jet jumped out of the tree. He used his swords to knock down two soldiers, landing them on top of the previous soldier who got attacked.
“Down you go.” He said as he landed on the ground. The rest of the Freedom Fighters began attacking the Fire Nation troops while the other kids stood in shock at what was going on.
“They’re in the trees!” A Fire Nation troop exclaimed as a Freedom Fighter jumped onto his head, laughing. Y/N roundhouse kicked a Fire Nation troop while the other Freedom Fighters shot arrows at the troops. The other kids began fighting back alongside the Freedom Fighters, the Water Tribe girl began waterbending at them while the boy with the arrow on his head was airbending the troops. The Water Tribe boy began yelling, holding up his boomerang to attack a Fire Nation troop when Jet jumped and attacked the soldier.
“Hey, he was mine!” the Water Tribe boy whined.
“Gotta be quicker next time,” Jet said as he ran off to attack the rest of the troops. Y/N ran towards a Fire Nation troop and kicked him in the chest, sending him into a tree. She dodged a sword attack, blocking it with her arm and then hitting the soldier with an uppercut. As some troops tried running off, Jet ran up and attacked them with his swords. He landed in front of the Water Tribe girl.
“Hey,” he said as he towered over her. Y/N looked over and rolled her eyes. The Water Tribe girl blushed.
“Hi,” she responded, flustered. The Freedom Fighters looked around to find the camp abandoned, satisfied with their ambush. The three kids walked up to Jet.
“You just took out a whole army almost single-handed!” The airbender exclaimed.
“Army?!” the Water Tribe boy scoffed with his arms crossed, “There were only, like, 20 guys.” He continued. Jet walked up to Y/N and the rest of the Freedom Fighters.
“My name is Jet, this is Y/N. And these are our Freedom Fighters.” He began introducing everyone else. “Sneers, Longshot, Smellerbee, the Duke, and Pipsqueak.” The airbender walked up to the Duke and Pipsqueak and began talking to them.
“Let’s look through the stuff and see what we can keep,” Y/N said as she picked up one of the Fire Nation’s swords. The Water Tribe boy trailed behind her as she headed towards Smellerbee to look through the tents.
“Need something?” Y/N said as she kept looking through the crates, not looking back at the boy who was following her. She handed a crate to Smellerbee and sent him out of the tent. Y/N looked at the Water Tribe boy in confusion.
“Oh sorry, I just don’t know what to do.” He said as he looked down. She shook her head at him.
“You’re good, don’t worry. I’m Y/N by the way.” She extended her hand to him. He shook her hand.
“I know, Jet told us.” He said awkwardly. Y/N smiled at his awkwardness. It was nice to see a guy her age who wasn’t cocky like Jet.
“I’m Sokka, I’m here with my sister Katara and Aang. Aang’s the Avatar.” He continued. Y/N raised her eyebrows at him in interest.
“The Avatar, huh? That’s really cool. I suppose that’s why those Fire Nation troops cornered you guys.” She said as she grabbed a crate.
“I guess so. We were actually traveling through the air on Aang’s flying bison, but I thought that we’d be spotted pretty easily by Fire Nation troops. But I guess my instincts were wrong.” He said as he looked back down at the ground. Y/N frowned at him.
“Not true, you guys helped us. We’d been waiting to ambush them since this morning and you guys served as the perfect distraction. Had you guys not have been there, who knows how that could’ve turned out.” She said to him. He looked up to her and smiled.
“Thanks, Y/N.” He said to her. She smiled back at him.
“I should be thanking you. For trusting your instincts.” She winked at him. She liked that he was different from Jet. She was tired of the flirty, cockiness that was Jet.
Jet and Y/N had a complicated relationship. They knew each other from such a young age. As they got older, Y/N realized that she might have feelings for him. Jet and Y/N would flirt with each other constantly, but this was confusing for Y/N. She knew Jet could be a flirt and not mean what he said, but she felt like she knew him. She saw what he was like when they were alone and she couldn’t help but feel like his feelings for her were more than just playful flirting. At least, that’s what she thought. Whenever Y/N felt like they had gotten close to saying how they truly feel towards each other, Jet would stop flirting and start avoiding Y/N. And if he saw another girl their age, he’d start flirting with her but still flirt with Y/N. This made Y/N mad, she was tired of being treated like this.
Sokka and Y/N walked out of the tent together, heading towards the center of the camp. Y/N put the crate down beside some other supplies they were taking back to their hideout. They overheard Katara and Jet talking by a tree, “We were relying on instincts.” Katara said to Jet.
“You’ll get yourself killed doing that,” they heard Jet say. Sokka looked down in sadness. Y/N put her hand on his arm. He looked up at her.
“Don’t listen to him, trust me.” She said, “Jet doesn’t know what he’s saying.” She looked back at Jet and noticed Jet looking at her and Sokka, his face looking stern. Y/N handed Sokka a peach from the crate and took one for herself. They sat together on the logs and ate their fruit while the others collected the rest of the supplies. Y/N admired the new Fire Nation sword that she had picked up.
“Even though I hate the Fire Nation, they’ve got some pretty cool weapons.” She said as she waved the sword around.
“You know how to use one?” Sokka asked in curiosity. Y/N shook her head.
“Not really, I’ve always been focused on mastering my hand-to-hand combat I never really had time to learn swordsmanship. Besides, Jet can do that.” She said as she sheathed the sword. Sokka furrowed his brows at her.
“So what if Jet can do that? You can do it too.” He said in anger. Y/N laughed.
“No, I don’t mean it like that. The Freedom Fighters all have different skills that make us such a strong group, rather than us all being a uniform group. It gives us character like that I guess, having a wide skill set.” She shrugged, taking a bite into her peach. She wiped the juice off her face with her sleeve. “Being a non-bender, it means you gotta be the best you can be in what you’re good at. Firebenders are ruthless. I’ve seen it first hand.” She continued as she lifted her sleeve to show her bandage on her arm. Sokka frowned at her.
“I’m so sorry. Fire Nation attacked my village and killed my mom, so I get it.” He said as he looked down at his peach. She rolled her sleeve down.
“What is it with Fire Nation and attacking helpless villages?! They attacked my home village too when I was younger. They killed my parents and burned the whole village to the ground.” She said as she took another bite of the peach. Their conversation was interrupted by Jet saying to head back to the hideout. Y/N got up and walked towards the group, while Sokka followed behind her. She began to grab a crate but he took it from her, smiling at her. She smiled at him and they walked back to the hideout together, while Jet glared at them from afar.
------
The entire way back to the hideout, Jet kept a close eye on Y/N and Sokka, glaring at Sokka every time he made Y/N laugh. Y/N would catch Jet looking at them but ignored him.
“We’re here.” Jet said as he looked up. Sokka scrunched his face in confusion.
“Where? There’s nothing here.” He said looking at Y/N. She laughed and grabbed the rope hanging from the tree.
“Hold this,” she said, handing Sokka the rope.
“Why, what does this do?” He asked when suddenly, the rope pulled him up. He went up yelling while Y/N looked up at him laughing. Aang began using his airbending to get up the tree while the rest of the group headed up the trees. As Y/N began to go up, she noticed Jet reach out to Katara and they both headed up the tree together. She sighed as she made it to the top. Spotting Sokka and other Freedom Fighters, she joined them as they all followed Jet and Katara, joining their conversation.
“Why does the Fire Nation want to find you?” Katara asked as everyone started heading onto the bridge connecting two of the trees.
“I guess you could say I’ve been causing them a little trouble.” Jet said, adjusting the piece of wheat that sat in his mouth. Y/N always hated how he kept wheat sticking out of his mouth.
“See, they took over a nearby Earth Kingdom town a few years back.” Jet continued as he looked to see where Y/N was. She was walking next to Sokka. He turned his head forward before Y/N could notice he was looking.
“We’ve been ambushing their troops, cutting off their supply lines, and doing anything we can to mess with them.” Y/N said as she glared at the back of Jet’s head.
“One day, we’ll drive the Fire Nation out of here for good, and free that town.” Jet said, giving Katara a flirty look. She blushed.
“That’s so brave,” she said with a smile. Sokka rolled his eyes, still not impressed with Jet, unlike his sister.
“Yeah, nothing’s braver than a guy in a treehouse.” He said, squinting his eyes at Jet. Y/N laughed quietly at Sokka’s remark, hitting his arm playfully.
“Don’t pay any attention to my brother,” Katara said, brushing him off. Jet looked away from Sokka.
“No problem. He probably had a rough day.” He gave Sokka a side-eye.
“So, you all live here?” Katara asked. Jet nodded as he explained how the group came to be. When Katara asked about Jet and Y/N, Jet stopped in his tracks, allowing the rest of the group to continue. He held onto Y/N’s arm, making her stay back with Katara and him.
“The Fire Nation killed my parents, along with Y/N’s. We grew up in the same village and got lucky to survive. They burned the whole village down. I was only 8 years old. That day changed us forever.” Jet explained to Katara with his head down. He was still holding on to Y/N’s arm. Katara frowned and looked down.
“Sokka and I lost our mother to the Fire Nation.” She said. Y/N put her hand on Katara’s shoulder in comfort.
“I’m so sorry, Katara.” Jet said to her. The three of them stood together in a comforting silence until Katara said she was going to see where Aang was. Y/N and Jet watched her leave the bridge. Jet looked at Y/N with a serious look.
“What do you think you’re doing?” He said to her as he crossed his arms. She looked up to him in curiosity.
“What do you mean?” She said to him, looking into his brown eyes. He scoffed at her.
“Don’t act innocent. I’m talking about you and Sokka. You met him for only a day and you’re all over him.” He said to her, maintaining his stern look. Y/N raised her eyebrows at him.
“Oh, really? And you and Katara weren’t making out on the way up the treehouse right?” She said as she began to head off the bridge. Jet grabbed her arm again and turned Y/N so she was facing him.
“I don’t like her like that, you know that.” He said, letting her arm go. Y/N rolled her eyes at his statement. He pulled Y/N in closer and lowered his voice. “She’s a water bender, she can help us with the plan.” Y/N crossed her arms.
“So? Doesn’t mean you need to be all flirty with her to get her help.” Y/N moved back from him, “Besides, I still don’t really like the plan.” Jet groaned.
“I’m doing this for you, for us. I want to protect you, why can’t you understand this? The Fire Nation has caused you and me so much pain, they deserve this. You mean so much to me.” He said as he raised his hand to hold her face. Y/N looked up at him, her anger starting to melt away. She held his hand in hers, then sighed and took his hand off her face.
“You act like this with me and then you go and do the same with another girl. How do I know you’re being honest with me about us?” She looked down and walked off the bridge. Y/N felt tears build in her eyes, then noticed Sokka standing near the end of the bridge, realizing that he saw what happened between her and Jet. She sighed, pretending she didn’t notice him there and went to her tent.

i come bearing one gift and it is this super specific nonsensical set of modern au headcanons: The Gaang Goes To The Fair/Carnival
modern atla masterpost :)
if you live in the soggy mound of mashed potatoes we like to call America, odds are you've been to a state fair so you know i had to include it in the AU
it was Aang's idea to go to the state fair, snd everyone was pretty much down immediately
they all go in Sokka's car, all nine of them in the Honda Odyssey
Sokka: okay we have two options. two cars, or Aang in the trunk // Aang, already in the trunk: i don't get why it's always gotta be me
seating arrangement is Sokka and Suki in the front, Azula Toph Katara in the middle row, and Zuko Mai Ty Lee in the back row
the car ride is always long to this kind of thing, so it's a forty-five minute ride
on the way there they all hop on the minecraft PE server, except Toph. "I don't understand. it's fake dirt. there's real dirt all around you and you take that dirt for granted."
once they get there, Zuko immediately has to go to the bathroom
Katara: i told everyone to go before we left! // Zuko: okay mom, i didn't have to go then!
We know Toph has an affinity for scams
so don't even try to tell me she wouldn't go to those "guess my weight" stands and bend the metal inside the scale to cheat
She takes Sokka and Suki with her too. they think it's hilarious.
Toph: well, what does it say? // Carnival worker: it says... it says you're 399 pounds. // Toph, literally 5'1": sounds like your guess was a little off, bucko
(just realized my icon is literally Sokka and Toph at the SWT festival in the comics playing carnival games pppffft)
Suki and Sokka do one of those strong guy games where you hit the hammer onto a thing and it tells you if you're weak
Suki won, obviously. queen. Sokka was very proud and in awe of her power. as he should be.
Mai and Ty Lee go to the petting zoo. Mai does not like the petting zoo (at first).
Ty Lee: look, a friend! // Mai: that's a filthy goat // Ty Lee: i hear no difference
Zuko got lost after going to the bathroom and went through an entire character arc in the house of mirrors
Then he realizes he can just text someone and ask where they are
he tries Azula first but all she says is "wouldn't you like to know, weather boy" so in order to get any actual information he has to text Suki
speaking of Azula, her and Toph are having a great time commiting generalized mischeif
Azula: so you're telling me they keep the uncooked corn kernels in one big container // Toph: yes // Azula: and with a little bit of fire... // Toph: yes // Azula: we could set the whole thing off // Toph: y e s
Katara and Aang were milling around being a cute couple until they saw Toph and Azula trying to set up a popcorn bomb
Aang: hey babe you want some cotton candy? ugh hold on Katara, AZULA STOP ENCOURAGING HER I SAID NO WAR CRIMES TODAY CAN’T WE HAVE ONE DAY WITH NO WAR CRIMES?
Carnival rides are always iffy, and Toph refuses to step foot on any of them
Suki, Zuko, and Sokka literally would not care if they died on a carnival ride. all three of them would probably welcome death with open arms
Suki: come on, it’ll be fun // Toph: yeah, no. too far from the ground for me.
The ferris wheel always breaks at least once at these types of thing
and so it breaks leaving the whole squad chilling up there for like half an extra fifteen minutes, minus Toph laughing her ass off on the ground
it’s been a hot second since i’ve made a good long post like this, but i vibe with it so pls enjoy!

Okay, so basically I was in a mood for adult gaang reunion, so I wrote this. Here you are, hope you’ll enjoy ✨
“Just like old times”
“Suki, come on, we’re gonna be late!” called out Sokka, entering their hut. Again. “Everything’s ready but you two.”
His wife laughed.
“Relax, Sokka, they won’t start without us. And you know that Yue needs to have her hair done.” She raised her eyebrows, while she was running fingers through her daughter’s hair.
“Yeah, dad, you know that” she took up, making a face to him. Sokka shook his head both with disbelief and a smile. He sat down, watching his beautiful ladies.
“I’m not worried they’d start without us, though” he explained. “There’s no fun without Sokka, duh.”
Suki rolled her eyes, but didn’t say anything.
“I’m just concerned Katara’s going to get there earlier than I am.”
His wife even turned her head from Yue’s hair to him, only to see his priceless face expression.
“You didn’t bet with Katara again, did you?” she asked, lowkey already knowing the answer.
“Well, I couldn’t let her win just like that.” Sokka shrugged his shoulders. Suki sighed.
“You’re gonna lose, sweetie” she proclaimed.
“Not if we sticked to my schedule, I wouldn’t.”
“You didn’t make the time for mom to braid my hair, dad” slipped Yue. “You knew what you were getting yourself into.”
“Why excuse me, I assumed mom can braid your hair on ship” explained Sokka, extremely offended. His daughter shook her head as much as Suki’s hands in her hair allowed her to.
“Absolutely not possible.”
Sokka looked at his wife, seeking help. Suki shrugged with a smile.
“There’s nothing I can do. You knew what you were getting yourself into.”
Chief sighed and shook his head, defeated. This whole trip already started to go totally not as planned.
***
Sokka got off the ship and wasn’t even surprised that the first person who greeted him wasn’t neither Zuko, nor Aang, nor Toph and not even Mai.
“Hello, looser.” Grinned Katara. Sokka rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, yeah, shut up” he mumbled, hugging her in greeting. “It’s all Suki’s fault, by the way.”
Katara laughed.
“It kind of is” admitted Suki, also going for a hug. “It’s so great to see you, Katara, how are you doing?”
“I’m great, I’m really great. Tenzin is growing up so fast, you wouldn’t believe it.” She laughed. “I can’t believe it’s been almost a year.”
“I know, right? You’ve been out of the South for so long, we really missed you back there.”
“I didn’t” slipped Sokka teasingly, unpacking things from the ship. His sister hit him in the arm.
“Go back to carrying stuff, Sokka” she spat.
“Wait, honey, I’ll give you a hand” suggested Suki.
“No need, I’m doing great!” cried out her husband, taking three more boxes. “I mean, I definitely can see right now, so... tell me if I step on somebody, please” he puffed, trying to see the road.
Suki shook her head.
“Excuse me” she whispered to Katara and went to help out her husband. She took from him two boxes so that he could actually see something. He smiled to her gratefully. Katara grinned. And then she saw a little girl getting off the ship, rubbing her eyes sleepily.
“Are we there yet?” she asked, yawning and when nobody answered her, she looked around. Katara crossed her arms, waiting to be noticed. “Aunt Katara!” cried out Yue immediately after she spotted her. She ran towards her and before Katara knew it, she wrapped her little arms around her.
“Aunt Katara, I missed you so much!”
Katara laughed, hugging her niece back.
“I missed you, too, Yue. Look at you, all grown up! You’re a beautiful young lady.”
“Not as beautiful as you are, though.” Grinned Yue and her aunt shook her head. “Are Bumi and Kya here? And uncle Aang?”
“They are, you’ll meet them at the palace. And Tenzin’s with them as well.”
“Oh...” Yue made a face. “Is he still so squishy-looking?”
“I’m afraid he is” laughed Katara. “And you certainly are Sokka’s daughter” she added silently, shaking her head. Sokka walked up to them and took Yue’s hand.
“We’re ready, you’re coming?” asked his sister. She nodded and all four of them set off to the Fire Nation Royal Palace, where the rest was waiting for them. They saw Toph first, even though she didn’t exactly see them.
“Zuko” she started, before anyone was able to say something “needs to be put in his place. Who does he think he is, huh?”
“Uhh, try the Fire Lord” smiled Suki.
“Yeah, yeah, I don’t give a f...”
“Toph” interrupted her Suki, warningly. Toph seemed confused for a moment, but she finally understood when someone started to aggressively shake her hand.
“Right. Hi, kid.”
“Hey, aunt Toph” said Yue, very proud of herself for not giving Beifong a hug. “It’s nice to see you.”
“Yeah, I’d say the same about you but since I don’t actually see you...”
Yue grinned.
“I know. Hey, mom, dad, can I go inside and look for Bumi and Kya?”
Sokka nodded.
“Sure. But don’t forget to greet every... aaaand she’s gone already.”
“I don’t know why you sound so surprised, Chief Boomerang, you’d do exactly the same.”
“I know, right? It’s terrifying.” Smiled Sokka. “Anyways, it’s great to finally meet up. Man, I’ve been waiting for this whole reunion thing. We should do this annually.”
“We do” reminded Suki. “You came up with it.”
“Oh, right, I’m a genius.”
“You know, even with the inability to see, I can give you this look” said Toph, making a face to him, as if she’d been saying really?’.
“And even with the ability to see, I can pretend I don’t get it” announced Sokka. “Come on, Toph, I’m sure Zuko has already repaired whatever you were mad with him about” he said, putting his arm around her shoulders and dragging her up the stairs.
“I am mad” spat Toph but let Sokka lead her inside the palace. “Present tense. And you didn’t even give me a chance to say hi to Suki.”
“I was pretty sure you did that.”
“What a detective” scoffed Toph.
“One more word and I’ll push you down these stairs and you know it” threatened Sokka. His friend just shook her head in response. Upstairs waited for them Aang.
“Oh, great, I was supposed to go after Toph, but I see this problem has been already resolved.” Laughed the Avatar.
“Who are you calling the problem, Twinkletoes?” tried to spit Toph, but she got quickly undermined, as no one reacted.
“Sokka, finally” sighed Aang, hugging his friend.
“Long time no see, huh, the fearsome Avatar?” Grinned Sokka. “I heard you’re doing pretty well by organising the world.”
“I am, thank you very much.” Laughed Aang. “Republic City is glowing.”
“I believe you. The South Pole is glowing, too.”
“I know. Just a little bit more and we’ll be there, promise.” Smiled Aang. “Suki, you look beautiful!” he called out, when he saw her. He held out his hands to hug her.
“Thank you, Aang, so do you.” Laughed Suki. “We missed you.”
“He promised they’ll be back soon” slipped Sokka, giving Aang a judgy look.
“Can we please move along?” Toph kicked her heels. “I gotta kick Zuko’s butt.”
“Toph, you cannot do this.” Sighed Aang, walking with her further to the palace. “We’ve been over this.”
Sokka and Suki smiled to each other. He put an arm around her waist and gently kissed her temple. Katara placed her hand at her brother’s shoulder and smiled.
“Come on” she encouraged. “Zuko and Mai are dying to meet up with you two. Besides, dinner’s almost ready.”
Sokka gave her a knowing look.
“Well, you should’ve started with that, sister!”
***
They met with the rest in the dining room. Everyone was there — Yue played with Bumi and Kya (and Kya’s waterbending), Mai was trying to calm down Izumi, who was somehow scared by Ty Lee and her tricks, while Aang tried to prevent bloodshed between Zuko and Toph. Sokka sighed.
“Just like old times, huh?”
“Just like old times” admitted Suki. She slipped out of Sokka’s arm and walked up to Ty Lee. The Kyoshi Warrior lit up immediately as she saw her.
“Hey, boss.” She smiled, bowing to her funnily. Suki shook her head.
“Hello, my dear warrior” she replied, bowing back. “Come on, bring it in.” She laughed as Ty Lee hugged her excitedly.
“It’s so good to see you, Suki. I wish you would visit us more often.”
“Me too.”
“We’re going to” assured Sokka, walking up to them. “This period of time was just super hard for both of us.”
“It was.” Nodded Suki.
“Hi, Ty Lee.” Sokka held out his hand to her and smiled.
“Sokka” greeted him Ty Lee, squeezing his hand. “Everything alright at the South Pole?”
“They’re certainly doing better than we are” replied Mai, before anyone else could answer the question. “I’d give you my hand but they’re both kind of busy.” She looked at her daughter suggestively. “It’s great you made it, though”
“We get it.” Smiled Suki. “You’re not getting much sleep, are you?”
Mai snorted.
“Much is overstatement.” She looked over her shoulder. “Oh, great, my husband’s coming. Well, Izumi, dad will put you to sleep.”
“Sokka, Suki.” Smiled Zuko and hugged both of them. “Yue’s greeted me like fifteen minutes ago, what took you so long?”
“Oh, see, she greeted him” said Suki to Sokka, smiling suggestively. Sokka made a proud face.
“She’s got great manners, she even addressed me Fire Lord Uncle Zuko.” Laughed Zuko.
“Speaking of” slipped Mai, handing his husband the baby. “It’s your turn to put Izumi to sleep.”
Zuko raised his eyebrows.
“No, I’m pretty sure it’s your turn now.”
“Nope” denied Mai, shaking her head.
The two of them looked each other in the eye for a moment, until Zuko finally gave up. “Damn it, why is uncle still in Ba Sing Se when I need him?” he mumbled. Mai smiled triumphantly. “Okay, sweetie, say goodnight to your uncle Sokka and aunt Suki and aunt Ty Lee, you’re going to sleep. I mean, I hope you are.” He gave his friends ‘I am so done’ look and was about to leave, when he reminded himself of something else.
“Oh, and of course make yourself comfortable, guys. Dinner will be ready in ten minutes.”
Suki smiled.
“Don’t worry, we won’t start without you.”
“We won’t?” groaned Sokka.
“No, we won’t, Sokka.”
Zuko rolled his eyes with a smile.
“Thanks, Suki” he said and left with little Izumi pulling his hair, which he was totally indifferent to.
“Wait, Zuko, you forgot...” started Mai, going after her husband. Ty Lee smiled to them and went back to the table. Suki hugged Sokka.
“Just like old times.” She sighed, repeating his words. Sokka smiled and hugged her tighter.
“Just like old times.”

OKAY so last night i said something in tags about “ask me about my thoughts on atla post-canon polyamory” 99% because I had typed a bunch of shit in the tags and then accidentally CLOSED THE TAB thus losing said tags, so that was a bummer, BUT like 3 different people reached out wanting to hear about it so HERE GOES. (thanks to @taibhsearachd for rambling this out with me last night)
SO. this started bc we got somehow on the topic of how much we really disliked the whole Aang/Katara kiss at the end of the show. Not because we’re against them kissing (Aang had to already have turned 13 by then, an innocent kiss is perfectly reasonable for a 13yo in my opinion), but because the placement of the kiss made it so... CENTRAL. We were talking about how we would’ve liked the kiss to have been earlier, preferably before the big finale, and then like... they still could’ve had a soft romantic moment on the balcony but it could’ve been like. Hand holding or sitting together with Katara’s head on his shoulder.
And Birdie mentioned she’d always liked Zutara back in Ye Olde Tymes because the whole “Aang and Katara get together when they’re barely 13 and 15″ thing just seemed... really untenable if we’re going with endgame, AND it made a lot of sense to get Katara and Zuko together politically, especially since there’s nooooo princess up north anymore since she turned into the moon and all. But the resurgence of the fandom (thank you for once Netflix!) has opened our eyes to ZUKO AND SOKKA and that’s fuckin amazing but now we’re back to square one in re: Aang and Katara. But then I realized that we can fix all of this with a) allowing for healthy breakups of relationships that don’t work yet but might work when the people involved have grown/processed things, and b) extensive polyamory.
And so here’s my thought:
Aang and Katara break up for a while probably not long after the end of book 3. They’re fucking kids, they’re traumatized kids no less, and they both have a lot of shit they need to deal with both personally and in the world that isn’t really conducive to “baby’s first serious relationship”. They’re still friends, they view it as “well... let’s maybe try again in a few years if we’re both still interested”. All their friends are aware of this and supportive and in the end it’s healthy for both of them bc their traumas and coping mechanisms didn’t always play nice with each other even BEFORE all the fallout from the finale and having to take on more responsibility in the world and such.
Zuko properly gets with Sokka and Suki during this time, though there’s no talk of like. Marriage or anything. Yes, Sokka’s politically got the same sort of appeal as Katara, but the thing about politically advantageous marriages at that level is there’s sort of the assumption that you’ll be, y’know, having heirs, so Sokka’s not really cut out for that and Suki flat out refused to be official Fire Lady or whatever.
So once Katara and Aang are older, like Aang’s 17 and Katara’s 19 and Zuko’s sitting over here at 21, and his advisors are all “ok but seriously Fire Lord Zuko, we really should look into at least a BETROTHAL of some sort” and he just sighs, and they’re bringing up all these Fire Nation ladies and he’s like “no it’s gotta be more diplomatic than that, she shouldn’t be Fire Nation” and so one of them’s like “well, uh, that water tribe lady you’re friends with, she’s set to be a pretty strong leader as she gets older, that would be a good way to do it. Or that blind Earth Kingdom--” “NOT TOPH.” “ok but seriously, tho, think about it your majesty”
So Zuko’s torn because he really does like Katara, and she’d be an amazing Fire Lady in addition to being an amazing... whatever her title would be down in the Southern Water Tribe (I definitely picture her and Sokka basically being the leaders of the pan-tribal council - he handles military and adjacent stuff and she handles the rest). But Katara’s with Aang again FINALLY not that they’ve made a big deal of it outside their friends. BUT he knows that y’know... people can be with more than one person. Hell, look at him and Sokka and Suki, right?
So he goes to talk to Aang like “I want to make sure I run this past you so she doesn’t have to try and do it, because I’m the one even bringing it up, and it’s obviously up to her, BUT here’s the sitch”.
And see, the thing about the Air Nomads is it really doesn’t make sense to me that they’d have the same kind of ideas about like. Monogamy and parenthood and relationships as other nations, ‘cause like.... the kids are clearly raised communally. Like, I vote ‘you probably know who your parents are but really all the adults are your parents, maybe you get an extra cake from them on your birthday but that’s about it’ for the most part. And y’know being with who you want to be with sort of thing. Sure you’ll have people you might be more committed to, but by and large the general consensus is “love who you love, whoever and however many people that is!”
So Zuko’s all prepared to angst for even ASKING if Aang would mind playing technical second fiddle in an heir-producing/marriage/inheritance/etc sense to HIM, ugh what if Aang hates him for even thinking it? and Aang’s just like “oh yeah that’s cool dude, if she’s down go for it! You wanna talk to her together? I don’t mind being there to reassure her it’s ok, and that you weren’t asking me permission to ask her so much as you were making sure it wouldn’t upset me if you did, and all that” and Zuko’s like “...what. I. Ok sure?”
And Katara does like Zuko, she just y’know, also liked Aang and didn’t want to GIVE UP Aang, but Zuko’s like “it’ll be good for our people, and I’d never make you stay in the fire nation full time you have your own responsibilities and also you don’t have to stop being with Aang or even like hide it or anything, it’s not like people don’t know I’m with Sokka and stuff, it’s just, y’know, OFFICIAL HEIRS and stuff” and so she’s like “Oh! Oh, yeah, that’s good, we can have a couple kids and stuff”
But ofc they end up a lot closer than “just a couple kids” but it’s sweet! She has kids with Zuko and kids with Aang and really as long as one of them turns out a firebender (can the avatar have a kid of any bending type? NO ONE KNOWS but Zuko’s advisors are prepared to accept it at this point) so long as they end up with A VIABLE HEIR that Zuko will claim etc etc.
And of course Zuko and Sokka and Suki have a couple kids whose parentage is uncertain not that they really CARE, and Suki and Aang aren’t really into each other romantically but when they’re a bit older they discuss it and decide to have a kid just so they can have a shot at a potential airbender baby, because heck yeah rebuilding the airbenders, might as well get some extra genetics up in this ish.
And these kids are all largely raised together in this big pack of like 10 kids of varying ages who move between 2 or 3 different homes, and Zuko rules the Fire Nation and Sokka and Katara lead the southern water tribes, and Aang does his Avatar thing, and they all spend as much time together as possible with the kids and Suki and some of her girls from Kyoshi Island are the main people ALWAYS THERE for the kids.
And there’s at least one kind of each bender in the group (bc you can’t tell me it’s 100% you have to have a bending parent, considering neither Katara’s mother or father were benders, so one of Suki’s kids is DEFFO an earthbender) and they’re a chaotic bunch and sometimes the Gaang forgets which one of them provided the genetics for which kid but really it doesn’t matter bc they’re ALL the kids’s parents, and all the kids are ALL their kids, and it’s a big happy messy disaster of a polycule that the Fire Nation nobility and advisors despair over, but they can’t deny that it seems to be working out pretty well and that the Fire Lord is good at his job and pretty damn happy, so they don’t bitch too much about it.
...Also at some point Sokka and Toph discuss dating and end up sort of doing it for a while but then going back to being friends, but she does ABSOLUTELY get him to father one of her kids, which she then declares firmly she made out of a rock and bended to life, and most people are preeeeetty sure she’s full of shit but can’t fully discount the possibility and only the Gaang knows the truth.
so yeah that’s my avatar polyamory thoughts, it is not canon-compliant with legend of korra but who cares this is my imagination and headcanon and LoK doesn’t play into it at all. *nod*
#also toph doesn't become the founder of any sort of police force bc WHAT?#that never made sense to me#they just wanted metalbender cops i think#but it was imo a bad character choice#atla#polycule of doom!!!!#or win#or both!#taibhsearachd
