last night's Women Reclaim The Night: The Night Is Ours midnight protest march... turns out my father actually wasn't against me going out late, it was just that i made assumptions without asking. but anyways, me, mom, dad, and 8-10 of our neighbours went to the Garia More protest site. the turnout here was pretty great so imagine the turnout at the other, more popular sites.

anyways, we went with a candle each, and placed it in front of a poster, as the pic shows. i really hope Abhaya gets the justice she deserves and her soul rests in peace.

but people, let's not forget that the fight isn't over yet! the culprits, and by that i mean the real culprits haven't been punished yet, and are still under political protection. FORDA had called off the nationwide strike after meeting with Union Health Minister, and we all know what that means. everything is corrupted right now, and nothing can be trusted. but we as citizens should do our part in getting justice.

today, 15th Aug 2024, is the indian independence day. but do you think we're really independent yet? is independence only for men? are women supposed to stay at home, be blind to all the corruptions and illegal things happening, and just stay quiet? why is it still not safe for women to go out at night? why is it that we women have to suffer always, whether be it a nursery child or a doctor or an aged person? as Alakh Pandey said recently Girls can't go out late at night not because they are scared of other girls. Boys are what scares them. So the whole problem is not you, it's us (males). The fact that you all are not safe late at night because of us should be our (males) responsibility.

the day women can walk on the streets at any time of the day without being catcalled, stared at in creepy way, being raped, sexually assaulted, having acid thrown over their faces, be subjected to domestic violence, marital rape, tortured, murdered, etc etc etc, that will be the day india will become truly independent. but not before that. not today.

India's 78th Independence Day? did we trade one prison for another because this is the state of women in our country. please spread the word, our government is shit and we as humans must do everything we can to raise awareness of the horrors. below are two images, one shows a list of terrifying crimes and the other is the brief autopsy report of a doctor who was r@ped and murdered on duty in Kolkata. her death was called "suicide" by the government, they destroyed the evidence under the guise of "renovation" because a politician's son was allegedly involved. this is something way worse than injustice, this is absolutely inhuman. Just curious, what did Ford expect Stan to do with his house? Ford was appalled at what his former home has become. Did Ford expect Stan to sell off the cabin?

Also, do you think Ford really intends to throw Stan out of the house by the end of the summer? Or was it said in his moment of frustration?

I mean, when asking "what was Ford thinking?" on any subject, I think "he simply Did Not" is always a valid hypothesis. ;P

But also yeah, my personal headcanon is that he told himself Stan would somehow get the proceeds from the cabin (selling it? inheritance after Ford's death? somehow) and use that money to build a Normal Life for himself. My reasoning:

We get at least one line in the Journal that portal-era Ford has been feeling bad about "shutting Stan out of my life."

I think it's reasonable to guess this came to the forefront after going through the portal, because the combination of distance and Stan's "I chewed my way out of a car trunk!" speech allowed Ford to admit that he regretted their estrangement and that it hurt Stan.

SINCE he can't do anything about it now, but also Stan being in Bad Circumstances is unacceptable, the easiest thing to do is tell himself that his disappearance could at least have put Stan back on his feet.

This assuages his guilt and validates his martyr complex (his home dimension is better off without him!), as well as enabling him to continue existing in a reality where Stan is Okay, Really, He's Fine.

...As you may have noticed from my last couple fics, I tend to think this is a necessary condition for Ford to keep himself going. ;P

And I don't think we get any indication that Ford doesn't mean what he said. He generally doesn't say anything he doesn't at least think he means, I feel like? The Journal doesn't offer any indication otherwise, either - he mentions "taking his house back and rebuilding the life Stan took," or something equally dramatic, in there.

This is, of course, especially jarring for us on the heels of the "how Stan got thrown out and it ruined his life" backstory right before it. But some motivations maybe:

Journal 3 again gives context, this time with the story of Ford having just visited a "Better World" in which that dimension's Stan took the journal, everything turned out perfectly after Stan did what he was told (DOUBT, but we only have Ford's understanding of this dimension to go on), and Ford and Fiddleford ended up founding a thriving scientific Institute on the site of the Shack, where they do world-respected science and also safely travel to other dimensions.

This dimensions is TAILOR-MADE to confirm ALL of Ford's biases, it's ridiculous.

This on top of preexisting bad blood means he returns home primed to blame Stan for the Portal Incident and all its consequences, which means Stan owes him even regardless of opening the portal to bring him home.

(Opening the portal is ALSO Stan's fault and something he has to bear the consequences for, of course, so actually it's just made him owe Ford more arguably.)

In addition, seeing the cabin turned into his dream come true in that other world means he's even MORE primed to hate the Mystery Shack and its "mockery of his life's work" than he otherwise would have been.

He's mad, he's scared, he's flailing because he's HOME but he no longer has a place in this world, the closest thing he has to a blueprint is what he saw in that other world, and also he can't really reconcile with Stan without being prepared to let go of ALL his baggage so the easiest thing is to push him away. He'll be fine anyway, it's not like HE'S just landed in this dimension and owns literally nothing outside of this house!

ALSO, it was technically his house and Stan technically did steal it. Which means Ford has a RIGHT to claim it and do what he likes with it. And Gravity Falls is ultimately a show about how making family relationships transactional leads to heartbreak and destruction, so of course Ford has to keep doing that until he finally learns his lesson.

When I was in elementary school I went to circus camp and we would have balloon animal making as one of the activities/courses. Of course having a lot of children playing with balloons all day meant that they would quite often pop. It was quite loud when they would pop and usually everyone would stop what they were doing to look at what happened.

I cannot tell you why, but once during the first year I was attending the circus camp, after one of the balloons popped my undiagnosed unmedicated ADHD ass just yelled “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” in response. Of course everyone was confused because why would I yell? and why would that be what I said? But we moved on.

It must have stuck in someone’s head though because a few hours later when the next balloon animal dog or whatever popped someone else yelled happy new year to react to it. And from that point on it became A Thing. Everyone, every time a balloon popped, would in unison yell “HAPPY NEW YEAR”. This would happen at least once a day. I was quite proud of myself for inventing this bit.

The next year, when I went back to circus camp, I found that the habit had stuck. Everyone was still yelling happy new year. Then one day I was sitting eating lunch with a group of kids and one of them asked the group why we yelled that, and no one knew. And they didn’t believe me when I told them I had come up with it. None of them had been there the year before. The counselors also didn’t remember it was me who started it. Me and my younger sibling were the only ones who knew and remembered.

Ultimately though, I didn’t care if people remembered me as the one who started the trend. It was fun, it was silly, it was communal. And more importantly it was something that I created that had gained a life of its own beyond me. Because isn’t that what humanity is for? Celebrating a silly mistake like someone popping a balloon. Coming together to yell a non-sequitur. Leaving a positive mark on a place. It’s not much but it’s honest work, to me.

WOMEN RECLAIM THE NIGHT, JUSTICE FOR RG KAR VICTIM

let's do our part in protesting against the brutal rape and murder of RG Kar PGT doctor who was on a 36 hour shift on Friday, 9th August when she was resting alone in a room. please read the entire post even though it's long.

if you don't know what happened, the 31 year old woman had been gang raped (both before and after murder), and tortured to such an extent which cannot be explained. afterwards, the authorities and police first tried to cover it up by telling her parents it's a suicide but later it was revealed not to be so. it is a case of rape and homicide.

(i) speculations are that the girl had possibly become privy to some unlawful work going on at the hospital during night shifts, and hence to silence her, all this was done.

(ii) parents were refused to be allowed to see their daughter's body until after 3 hours of their arrival. they had to beg and plead for their basic rights.

(iii) what's more is that her body was burned by the police without taking the consent of her parents, possibly to erase evidences in case a second post mortem was to be done.

(iv) the girl's father has also reported to the high court, the fact that the DGP called him up and asked him not to take matters forward and just settle it amongst themselves.

(v) the person who has been arrested for this incident is speculatively just a scapegoat who has been paid to take the blame for something done by a larger group of people, probably under the protection of the syndicate ran in West Bengal by the government.

Post Mortem report of the victim (which again, was conducted by RG Kar doctors themselves, and we don't know if some details are intentionally being hidden or not

The postmortem report of the trainee doctor raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital revealed that she was throttled to death. Her thyroid cartilage was broken due to strangling and a deep wound was found in her private parts, the four-page report said. Sources said the murder and rape likely took place between 3 am and 5 am on August 9.

Injuries were found on her belly, lips, fingers, and left leg. Sources said the victim's nose and mouth were clamped, and her head was pushed against a wall to prevent her from screaming.

The scratch marks on the woman's face are believed to have been caused by the accused's fingernails, indicating that the victim desperately tried to fight back.

"The mouth and throat were constantly pressed to prevent screaming. The throat was strangled to suffocate. The thyroid cartilage broke due to strangling," the postmortem report said.

The report also mentioned that the woman was bleeding from both eyes, mouth and private parts. The report said the wounds in her private parts were caused by "perverted sexuality" and "genital torture". However, the reason for her eye wound has not been determined yet.

so today (14th August, 2024) at 11:55 PM IST, there is going to be a midnight protest held across Kolkata. women protestors have planned to hold night long agitation across multiple spots in the city. the campaign titled 'Women, Reclaim The Night: The Night Is Ours' is aimed at seeking justice for the sexual assault and murder of the woman doctor. Men have also decided to join the protest in large numbers to show their solidarity with the cause.

The protest will take place simultaneously at the Jadavpur 8B Stand, Academy of Fine Arts, College Street, Sinthee More, Dunlop, Maldah English Bazaar, Siliguri (Darjeeling More).

i know it isn't possible for many of us to attend the protest but let's do our part virtually if not physically. share posts about the incident on your social media, with your friends, relatives. take part in the online campaign going on in social media. at 11:55 PM IST (14th August, 2024) tag your posts with #womenreclaimthenight and #thenightisours.

How long until the supreme court drops all pretenses and takes over the legislative branch?

They already pick and choose which laws to strike down based on what their party wants, constitutionality is irrelevant, so how long until they give themselves a preemptive veto just to speed up the process?

They narrow the scope of amendments they don't like and broaden the ones they do. Some amendments are interpreted only as written, cold clinical dictionary definitions, no context, no intention, "if it's not excplicitly written down verbatim then it's not protected," while others are fast and loose, "obviously this is what the founders intended, they didn't need to say it, we just know and that makes it legal." The 14th doesn't protect you from discrimination, but the 1st protects your right to discriminate. The 1st means bribery and quid pro quo are legal, but protests are not. The 1st lets schools ban books, punish trans kids, and teach Bible Study as a required class. The 1st means whstever they want it to mean, no more, no less, no exceptions. If you use their own logic to find a loophole they didn't intend, they'll change their minds and strike it down and issue an even more airtight decision; everything is case-by-1case, no precedent, no unintended beneficiaries, "it's legal when we do it, but not legal when you do it."
