Long story long:

I'm an artist, a queer activist, a writer and a LARPer. I'm employed full-time plus doing some side gigs plus trying to sell my artworks, but salaries in Ukraine just aren't that great. I'm making monthly about $1200 and half of that goes for the rent. Some medical bills for my partner and my doggo already left me with about -1750 USD on my credit card. To: Mark Zuckerberg, Meta Platforms, Inc. Neal Mohan, YouTube/Alphabet Inc. Shou Zi Chew, TikTok/ ByteDance Ltd. Linda Yaccarino and Elon Musk, Twitter, Inc./X Corp

As celebrities, influencers, and prominent public figures with significant followings on social media, we the undersigned are calling on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter to fulfill the promises you’ve made to transgender, nonbinary, gender non-conforming and all LGBTQ users in your terms of service. There has been a massive systemic failure to prohibit hate, harassment, and malicious anti-LGBTQ disinformation on your platforms and it must be addressed.

Dangerous posts (both content and ads) created and circulated by high-follower anti-LGBTQ hate accounts targeting transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people are thriving across your platforms, directly resulting in terrifying real-life [1] harm [2] including bomb threats [3] targeting children’s hospitals that offer healthcare for trans youth, and death threats [4] targeting care providers. [5] Such false and hate-driven widely circulated content on your platforms is even being cited by lawmakers advancing discriminatory legislation against trans people. [6] Targeted misgendering and deadnaming of trans and nonbinary people is a widespread mode of hate speech [7] across all platforms, utilized to bully and harass prominent public figures while simultaneously expressing hatred and contempt for trans and non-binary people in general. [8]

This disinformation and hate, inadequately moderated on your platforms, plays an outsized role in the sharp increase in real-world anti-transgender targeting and violence. [9] As documented by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation in 2022, [10] this is particularly the case when it comes to the online extremists leading proactive coordinated campaigns of hate and lies about gender affirming healthcare for trans youth. [11] Despite the fact that every leading medical and psychological association affirms the safety and necessity of gender affirming healthcare for trans people, including youth, inflammatory disinformation falsely asserting that this healthcare is dangerous is allowed to fester on your platforms because it drives clicks and profit. Trans youth and their families and care providers are being endangered by your negligence, causing many families to flee their homes. [12]

Your policies and corresponding enforcement are inadequate when it comes to mitigating harmful and dangerous anti-LGBTQ content. You must urgently take action to protect trans and LGBTQ users on your platforms (including protecting us from over-enforcement and censorship).

We call for you to meet with community leaders and creators to hear about these real world harms that result from anti-trans content on your platforms — and to create and share plans for how you will address:

Content that spreads malicious lies and disinformation about medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth. As described above, such harmful content from high-follower hate-based accounts has resulted in extraordinary real-world harms. [13] Specific mitigations on such disinformation must be developed (for instance akin to election and COVID-19 mitigations and rules).

Accounts and postings that perpetuate anti-LGBTQ extremist hate [14] and disinformation, [15] in violation of platform policies, and which target trans and LGBTQ people, including baseless and malicious disinformation of LGBTQ people being threats to children (e.g. the anti-LGBTQ “groomer” conspiracy theory [16]). Such harmful and dangerous lies must be more effectively moderated and mitigated.

Dehumanizing, hateful attacks on prominent transgender public figures and influencers. Online attacks against LGBTQ organizations and individuals are on the rise. [17] A recent report from GLAAD, UltraViolet, Kairos, and the Women’s March shows that 60% of LGBTQ people feel harmed not only from direct harassment and hate, but from witnessing harassment against other LGBTQ community members such as celebrities and public figures. [18] Directing hate against LGBTQ public figures is a common vehicle for expressing general anti-LGBTQ bigotry. When your companies maintain policy loopholes that allow such hate, this perpetuates harm against entire communities.

Anti-transgender hate speech, including targeted misgendering, deadnaming, and hate-driven tropes. [19] For example, Media Matters, GLAAD and others have identified multiple YouTube videos — which have accumulated millions of views — that bully, harass, and misgender trans people. In each video, prominent anti-trans pundits use YouTube to demean, target, and misgender young people, their parents, and public figures [20] in videos saturated with blatant anti-trans rhetoric. These videos remain active despite these violations having been reported by Media Matters, GLAAD, and other organizations to YouTube.

We know that leading national organizations, including GLAAD, HRC, Media Matters for America, PFLAG, The Trevor Project, ADL, and others, share research and guidance with your companies and escalate violative content. And yet your mitigations remain woefully inadequate. The very content you profit from is in violation of your own terms of service, which assert that you do not allow hate speech. [21] 

True allies do not profit from anti-LGBTQ hate.

We speak together with one voice to demand that your companies create and enforce stronger content and ad policies to directly confront the content that is causing online and offline harm to transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people.

A Mental Impasse For Today

I often get into those situations where my brain just refuses to move forward. For whatever reason, whether I like it or not. I just stop. I woke up today with a weird dream, I don't want to get into it as that's not important. What is important is that I feel like I'm at a mental impasse.

Last night I was planning on what my next post would be and I just couldn't even think about it. So I decided to sleep on it. Nothing has changed. But this thing where my brain just refuses to move forward is quite a frustrating experience. I don't know if anyone else experiences it, but for me it causes a lot of distress. I don't know what it is exactly.

But here's what I will say that happened today. I woke up, and the first thing I do is check through my Instagram feed to be met with the shit happening in France. Emmanuel Macron refusing to announce the left wing PM and seeing how he had a meeting with Marine Le Pen. Now, I'm not too familiar with how French politics works but this didn't seem good and clearly isn't as the left coalition in France is backing the protesters. So that was occupying my mind. Which as you can imagine puts you in a state of worry as if liberals are that easy to cozy up to fascists then it doesn't spell good news for US politics or politics anywhere.

But that's all besides the point. My fucking brain. So, after being anxious about that, I knew I needed to focus my attention on Tumblr. Because I was bothered by the default theme showing my blog posts with a white background. I spent all morning and some of the afternoon trying to fiddle around with the HTML when I just ended up picking a different theme XD. So, problem solved until I actually really want a custom site.

Where does that leave me now? Well, through that search of a new theme I noticed how stressed I was. I can't quite tell if it was a physical stress, emotional stress, or a mixture. Whichever. But this goes into some of the physical/mental health issues I've been dealing with. I was planning to write about that but I didn't know how to do it. I didn't know where to start, what to say or what. So instead of writing about it, I'll write about how I feel right now and then have it lead me to talking about that. So here I am talking about it. But...I think I'll save it for as a part 2 of this post. Or a de-facto continuation of this while keeping it as a separate post.

I have been having other thoughts like trying to better organize these posts and shorten them down so they're more digestible. As you can see, I'm just rambling and rambling and rambling stretching this out as my mind goes on and on. Perhaps that will just be another goal to keep in mind for long term blogging. So let's see:

Long Term Goals For Blogging

Improve writing skills and grammar

Shorten things up or organize my posts to make them easier to read and more digestible

I do like rambling though. I could just ramble on and on and let my mind loose. It feels good, even if people don't bother reading my entire post, which I doubt ANYONE will. The alternative is to post like a Twitter (I refuse to call it X, if Elon Musk can deadname his daughter, we can deadname Twitter) post, keep it short and just update as the day goes on. We shall see.

Anyway, I think my mind feels somewhat clearer. Not really, but I do have some peace of mind that the things bothering me this morning and afternoon are outside of my head. So maybe later I can finally get into talking about my long term stuff I've been dealing with and analyzing that.

I had a friend who cut ties with me bc I unfollowed a friend of theirs on Twitter. It hurt but I eventually got over it. I got very weird occasional anon asks here that were really aggressive and nasty. But they were so scattered I didn't think much of it bc it was like 2015, people were angry 24/7.

So then this person came off anon and started reblogging posts I made about it (the posts were like "wtf is going on"). I completely forgot what they were even screaming at me about which shows how important this was lol. They had changed urls and actual names like 12 times so I went to their blog bc I had no idea who they were?? They had an IP tracker so they immediately screamed that I was stalking them, changed their URL more, etc. They told me who they were on Twitter by calling themselves the name I knew them by. Then when I called them that name they made a tumblr post saying "GUESS WHO'S DEADNAMING ME NOWWW" and then wrote me a callout post that got 17 notes

Eventually I was like ooookay man you're clearly going through shit (this was FIVE YEARS since we had last spoken) so uh, I hope you're doing well, take care. Their response was "I'm NOT, but thanks for the FAKE SYMPATHY"

I guess what I'm saying is if you focus on shit like this and obsess over someone you hate (bc they didn't want to rp Pokemon with you every day on MSN messenger, for example), you may eventually turn into an insane miserable goblin of a person who sends anon hate to someone for FIVE YEARS and call them racist for unfollowing someone on Twitter.

I don't let this person live "rent free" in my head, I don't hate them or anything, I just keep it in my pocket as a cautionary tale for where that 2012 tumblr insanity led for some people. I'm glad I got out of that friendship when I did even if it hurt at the time. It's obviously one of the wackiest things to ever happen to me bc I tend to surround myself only with people who aren't out of their fucking minds.

This story kills at friend get-togethers with people who actually go outside. It's fucking unfathomable to them lol.

GLAAD Responds To Twitter’s Roll-Back of Long-Standing LGBTQ Hate Speech Policy | GLAAD

GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today responded after Twitter removed a transgender-specific protection from its Hateful Conduct Policy.

Prior to the rule change, Twitter’s Hateful Content Policy stated:

I’ve said before that I don’t have any judgement towards people who don’t understand theories- when I call somebody stupid (as I’ve said before), it’s not actually about how smart they are or if they agree with me or if they understand xyz theory, it’s instead about people who come at me unwilling to even be openminded at all. I’m stupid as fuck sometimes, I get things wrong all the time, but I do make a genuine effort to keep an open mind and admit when I’m wrong.
