Regarding this post about how Sugishita Kyotaro from Wind Breaker being Baji coded; while Yes, he checks most of the boxes to earn this title… it’s not entirely accurate.

Sugishita is quite low energy when he’s not riled up and ready to fight. Often spoting a tired expression and slumped posture.

Plus; he’s tall, 6’3” and I’m sorry fellow Baji girlies, but our mans is … what, 5’8” at best? 😔

So it just occurred to me… Sugishita is not only very Baji, but also Murasakibara adjacent.

I feel like there are a few ways to read the imodna part of the epilogue:

1) damn they moved fast [rushed writing]

2) damn they moved fast [imogen was desperate]

3) damn they moved fast [down bad from day 0]

The insertion of systemic misogyny into Exandria in this book is genuinely clumsier than when fans insert homophobia or transphobia into the setting for shipping purposes and most egregiously, "there's an ugly old hag" sort of means something different when "hag" is in fact a canonical form of monster in the setting. I was going to save my critique for later and I am saving most of it but this is sufficiently "did anyone edit this" levels of bad to point out in the moment.

thinking again abt this modern au sketch of dimitri and obolonsky (= characters from my novel) as college professors (+ musings under the cut)

i think dimitri is still a professional writer and obolonsky is still an architect in this world, theyre just also professors of literary history and urban planning & design respectively..

but now im wondering what jobs the other characters would have in the modern world 🤔 their community roles are very particular to their actual era (as in: rural eastern european 1890s) and its difficult to translate them into having modern jobs in a modern city. still, i think nadya would probably be some kind of artist, likely working with clay and stone.. i think she would be doing land art bc Obviously, but itd actually be rly interesting for her art to be large in scale and useable in a way that essentially makes it architecture - but from a totally different standpoint than obolonskys architecture. obolonsky builds detachment, the goal of his architecture is alienation, severance of the land and the people from the space. to him, the ideal space is purified of life and humanity. its also gigantic, and its height specifically is an attempt to reach away from the earth. on the other hand, nadya would be building small, intimate spaces, monuments of land made to hold humanity. fundamentally opposed aims basically. i can imagine them making jabs at each others work in interviews..

the hardest to figure out is azim bc azim is always gonna be someone who works w his hands and his body, so its kinda like.. idk maybe hes a mover? or he stocks shelves? which is totally realistic but also not super interesting to write about as character exploration. it would be interesting for him to still work within the funerary industry in the modern world, but i dont think it fits bc he would not have become a graveyard man to begin with if hed had the choice. i think freeing azim from being a graveyard man opens his future up to any possibility job-wise.. so maybe the point should be that idk what azim would be doing, bc he could kinda be doing anything. work is never gonna be his identity, so it only matters so far as it allows him to make a living and focus on his family in the end.
