Welcome to another monthly update! Honestly, outside of releasing Chapter 1 + fixing some of the issues that popped up, I don't have much to report. I got sick at the end of the month and have been head empty no thoughts while resting, which meant not a lot got done! (Because ya know, in my brain releasing a chapter equals not much done apparently ajsjsj). Overall, this was my January:
Released chapter 1 + spent the next week fixing issues
Finalized scenes for Chapter 2
Starting writing the first Chapter 2 scene (~2k words written)
The only notable thing on the blog this month beyond horny anons lmfaO was Beck's birthday post! I drew something for it + shared a snippet of his backstory.
With that said, I'm hoping to finish at least one of two major branches for chapter 2 this month! I'll also update the demo so people can choose which indicators they want turned on (romance, path, or both).
Finally, thanks for playing! BA hit a total of 10k plays in January, which is wild lol I appreciate y'all playing, commenting, sending asks, etc!

Once In A Blue Moon Update #1
Current Word Count: 1151
Sneak Peak:
Werewolves were a social species. This was a well known fact. The sky was blue, the rain was wet, and werewolves were pack creatures. The myth of the lone wolf was nothing more than a fairy tale, a creation of humanity that was as incurious as they were imaginative. They spoke life into a story of self reliance and resilience, unwilling or unable to comprehend that such a life was nothing but a death sentence to a wolf - mundane or magical in birth. Wolves lived and died by the pack. A packless wolf was a dead one, or as good as. To wander alone, untethered to a community or family, was the greatest shame of all. It painted you as unlovable. It painted you as untouchable. It painted you as other. Gary Sanderson had never had a pack.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Read:
On Chesil Beach: I read this on Chesil Beach, and felt it was a stunning portrayal of sex repulsed asexuality. 5/5
Fraternity: A Dark Academia set during the height of the early 90s AIDs crisis, this is emotionally devastating. 4/5
Where The Drowned Girls Go: I so excited to get my girls Cora and Regan back! This left me with some questions I'm hoping will be answered soon. 4/5

Currently Reading in one line:
I Who Have Never Known Men: Deep underground, thirty-nine women live imprisoned in a cage.
Nettle & Bone: Seeking help from a powerful gravewitch, Marra is offered the tools to kill a prince―if she can complete three impossible tasks.
Our Wives Under The Sea: When Leah finally returns after a deep sea mission that ended in catastrophe, her wife Miri knows that something is wrong.
The Ten Thousand Doors of January: A book that carries the scent of other worlds, and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger.
Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay (Neapolitan Novels #3): Both women are pushing against the walls of a prison that would have seen them living a life of misery, ignorance and submission.
Possession: As they uncover their letters, journals and poems, and track their movements from London to Yorkshire - from spiritualist séances to the fairy-haunted far west of Brittany - what emerges is an extraordinary counterpoint of passions and ideas.

Hey boss Im not sure if it's something on my end, but I poked into HFBE and the pictures aren't loading?
Oh no! That’s most likely because I hosted all my images for my chapters on a discord server, but discord no longer supports that. I will have to host my images for them somewhere else. Thanks for letting me know, anon!!

Hello wayward travelers!!! Mel/Lunarcrown here! We've gotten a couple of asks (over the years OTL) about if Wayward is continuing or not, and I'm here to answer that for y'all! Short answer: YES, but date unknown! Probablyyyy far future. Long answer: Both Aqua and I have been/will be in a pretty heavy stress situations for a while, her with college and me with my tattoo career! As such, we've been chasing things that are fun for us in the moment vs making any project "work"! Going wherever the wind takes us, as it were. We LOVE wayward and have everything planned out, but right now sticking to an upload schedule and pumping out art/script on a timeline isn't feasible and would end up producing shoddy work. SO we've decided to tuck our lil scraggly Varian and the ever-confused Aaron up on the shelf till we are in a place where we can work on it without it feeling like a chore! Even if its years later that we dust this journey off, we hope to still have some people read our little tale! Thank you to everyone who's read so far, and to those who might read in the future!

Every Heart A Doorway won the poll I put up back at the start of Feb and I can defs see why so many people voted for it!
I really love the whole concept of what happens to people after they've returned from a magic world and Seanan McGuire's writing was beautiful. I don't know that it hooked me enough to continue reading the series immediately but I might return to it at some future point. A really good, quick read.

I finally have the entirety of Wayward Souls available in chronological order on AO3. I didn't realize this but apparently I have over 40 entries in the series.

Since FR doesn't really let you delete old threads you've made if they've gotten over 10 replies I've made neat little easter egg roleplaying descriptions in mine just in case people stumble upon them

Chapters: 24/? Fandom: Freier Fall | Free Fall (2013) Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Marc Borgmann/Kay Engel, Marc Borgmann & Kay Engel, Bettina Bischoff & Marc Borgmann Characters: Marc Borgmann, Kay Engel, Bettina Bischoff, Frank Richter, Original Characters Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers, Light Angst, Happy Ending Summary:
Update: Chapter 24
An AU story based on Freier Fall characters.
Marc has just joined the famous Berlin LKA, his police career is looking up. All he needs now is to meet the right woman, get married, have 2.3 children and a house of their own.
The night he meets Bettina, he thinks he has hit the jackpot, she’s perfect. But Bettina isn’t the only one Marc meets that night. There is also this mysterious stranger named Kay Engel who says weird things to Marc and two hours later, he’s working with Marc and his colleagues on a big kidnapping case.
Marc befriends Kay over the course of the investigation, soon he finds out the life he planned for himself might not be what his heart really wants…
***
The story will start with Marc’s POV in part 1, then Kay’s in part 2.
I want to play with the idea that Marc meets Bettina and Kay at the same time. His logical brain tells him one thing, but his heart tells him something else 😅
This is not exactly a love-triangle story though, the Marc/Bettina part is mostly implied.

Weekly Reading Update (11/27/23)

Reviews and thoughts under the cut
Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare (6/10)
This book was just way too long for the story it was telling. It easily could have been 100 pages shorter. I did like a lot of the emotional moments concerning the romantic relationships, but there is so much filler that it just go incredibly boring at the end. Also, Cassandra Clare does this thing I like to call "no romance left behind" which is when everyone in a book is paired off by the end, even ones that don't really make sense or seem rushed, such as Gabriel and Cecily. The plot in this book was just overall lacking, coming off as extremely simplistic and far too convenient. Luckily, Tessa and her romantic relationships sort of saved the day; the epilogue did make me tear up, hence why this book is not dropping to a 4 or even 3.
Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire (9/10)
Continuing my Wayward Children run, Beneath the Sugar Sky is a really good installment. I love that we got the return of Kade and Christopher, who I missed, and the new characters, Cora and Nadya, are quite fun. Nancy was also there for a short time, and I loved seeing her in her element. I really liked Cora, who is great plus size representation and really addressed how being fat affects everything in our world and can worm into your brain. I am obsessed with the worldbuilding of Confection and the foray into how all the worlds are built and how they're laid out. I really hope there are more stories that involve visiting multiple worlds and exploring how they work.
Lodestar by Shannon Messenger (9/10)
This was an amazing installment in Keeper of the Lost Cities. It feels like something has truly changed for the first time in a while, instead of the back-and-forth that usually happens between the Black Swan and the Neverseen. Major developments occurred with terrible consequences for both sides, and we got what I would consider the first major character death as Calla in Neverseen had only been introduced that book. The relationship between Sophie and Keefe also developed quite a bit, and we got some real conflict within the group since the Alden debacle in Exile. Finally, there is some progress in the romance department. They're still, you know, like fourteen/fifteen, but considering how much this series hints at it, I'm glad we're starting to see concrete development. Finally, that ending had me gagged. Not only was the climax ridiculously tense but there is a twist at the end that made me immediately want to start Nightfall.
In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire (16%)
This book is hitting a little too close to home...as a goody-two-shoes reader who had like two friends growing up, Lundy feels like a callout. I am so excited to see a Goblin Market-based world, as I've read other books like that and they're always incredibly fun.
Cinder Ella by S. T. Lynn (8%)
This is part of a little project I'm doing, and I can't say much about it so far. I'm a little hesitant about the writing, as it has been clunky in a few places, but I'm really interested to see the story of Cinderella under a trans lens.
Rising Storm by Erin Hunter (7%)
I'm back on that Warriors grind, you guys. I swear I am going to read this entire series, even the later ones I never got to that are supposedly terrible. I also might be working on a project concerning them... Anyway, gotta love the Tigerclaw/ShadowClan foreshadowing.
Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett (3%)
It's always thieves in high fantasy novels. I'm not sure what the obsession with them is, but I feel like 60% of high fantasy protagonists are thieves. Anyway, I'm loving the magic system so far, so hopefully the plot and characters will hold up!

Weekly Reading Update | 2nd June
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Read This Week
The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe: Yes the insane Jesus references, but I would be chilling in Mr Tumnus' place with a fat cup of tea while they're busy being dramatic.
The Starless Sea: I understood more of the book this time round and loved every page, but I can't deny the ending is weak.

Currently Reading
Down Among The Sticks And Bones: I'm past the half way mark now, and getting to understand the backstory of Jack and Jill has been such a wild ride
Vivian vs The Apocalypse: A book I nearly passed on, this has been a really strong story of a group of teens thrown together after their parents are seemingly raptured as predicted by the cult they joined and the world descends into chaos.
The Things We Leave Behind: I am having to work with this very slow story, and I think the MC isn't telling us everything, so I'm hoping there's some big reveals soon.
Listen For The Lie: This is campy, and fun. A bit of a Yellowface vibe in the writing style? I'm having a good time.
Forget Me Not: This is one of those books where I just want to start incoherently sob yelling "they were getting an apartment!" "they're small town lesbians!" I'm deeply invested.
Bitterthorn: I truly admire that the MC's thought pattern seemed to be "might as well die I guess". The writing is beautiful.
