"Victoria's Game III" - Embry Call x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Part III to "Victoria's Game" a n g s t c i t y Read Part One / Part Two / Part Three / Part Four here
As time went on, the paranoia only grew.
Embry's soothing words were no longer comforting. The constant patrolling of the pack and the Cullens merely brought more fear into me.
The constant protecting didn't make me feel safe, it only reminded me of the impending doom coming my way.
It reminded me of her.
"Please." Embry whispers. His tired, sunken in eyes searching for any sign of life in my own eyes, seemingly devoid of life.
"Embry, I can't help it. If I could, I would. I- I just can't calm down." I argued, looking up into those chocolate brown eyes I fell in love with. "I just can't handle the fact that I'm a target. I even more can't stand that you're all-"
"Don't even say that. Don't think of it like that. We just want you safe, and we'll do anything to do it." He interrupts, his eyes piercing mine further.
"I just feel so guilty." I whisper, slightly shaking my head.
"Please, don't... If anything- it's me who needs to feel the guilt."
"Why would you feel any ounce of guilt? You're torturing yourself to protect me." I shake my head in confusion.
"I'm the reason she's after you." His voice was full of disgust as he once again blamed himself. "I didn't want you brought into this world, and here you are. A leech trying to... to take you from me as some form of sick revenge. I didn't want this for you."
"Em..." I murmur, not able to say much as I found my mouth hanging agape; watching his face contort in regret as his eyes squeezed shut. "This is not your fault, you didn't ask for any of this."
"I just wish I could keep you safe."
"You do keep me safe."
"If you were safe, we wouldn't have to be doing this right now. She wouldn't be able to get you if you were safe." His eyes grew cloudy, tears threatening to spill.
I couldn't shake the pained look on his face from my mind. Flashbacks of last night's conversation echoed through the walls of my skull.
I look over at the clock, listening to the agonizing tick tock noise it made every second. My shift would end in five minutes and I'd once again be met with Embry, Jake, and Quil waiting for me in the truck to be driven home.
Embry has barely left my side, unless he has to patrol. However, patrol usually happened outside of my house. I understood where he was coming from, I just knew he was absolutely exhausted.
In-fact, I knew they all were exhausted. I appreciated everything they did, more than I could put into words.
I noticed as Embry walked into the entrance of the office I worked in, his kind eyes searching for me sitting at my desk. I grabbed my bag and walked over to him.
I felt his feverish lips press a soft kiss to the top of my head as we waved goodbye to my coworkers.
I insisted we stopped at McDonald's to get food for the boys, as they had a shift ahead of them. Jake and Quil would be patrolling until tonight, where Embry and Paul would take over. Until then, Embry would be in my bed with me relaxing.
I bought the food for the three men with never-ending pits for stomachs. Watching them eat and joke with each other brought a smile to my face. Though, I couldn't eat myself, the anxious thoughts stripping me of my appetite.
Finally getting back to my house, I once again thanked Quil and Jacob for their help before leading Embry inside.
In my constant state of fear, I found myself extra cold. Thankfully, space heater Embry was great at keeping me warm.
His large hands stroked my hair as we laid in my bed, bringing me to a slumber-like state. I felt my eyelids growing tired. I was fighting the urge to fall asleep, though his soft whispers lulled me to sleep.
"Please baby, get some sleep." Soft, feverish lips pressed themselves to my temple as those same hands held me close.
I woke up with a jolt, as did Embry. We heard snarling and barking coming from outside my bedroom window.
Embry sprung up out of my bed before I was even able to realize what was going on.
"I'll be back." He rushes, opening my window and jumping out.
I followed him, looking at what was my biggest nightmare coming to life.
I watched as Quil laid on the ground whimpering, seemingly lifeless as two vampires stood over him. As Jacob was trying to buck off two that were holding onto him.
I watched as Embry hit the ground with a thud. I watched as he phased to only be rushed by more. There were so many, yet I couldn't find her.
Jacob and Embry struggled as howls echoed in the distance. I watched helplessly from my window as these monsters attacked them. The other two joining in to take them down.
Jacob was then crushed on his sides, falling to the ground with a whimper as they moved over to join those attacking Embry.
Embry's whimper rang out, sending shivers down my spine. I was speechless from witnessing Jacob and Quil, I felt the air completely leave my lungs as one wrapped their arms around Embry's neck.
I watched in horror as he fell to the ground, his jaw falling slack.
I stood there, unable to move as I wondered how any of this was real.
Where were the Cullens? The rest of the pack? They should've picked up on the scent and should've been here to stop this already.
This couldn't be real.
It was then that it dawned on me.
Where was Victoria? Why wasn't she here?
I watched in horror as the fiery red hair appeared from the treeline, staring up at me with a crooked smile.
Before I knew it, she was up at my window. Her blood red eyes boring into mine.
"Hello." She taunts with a small smile as I feel my chest getting ready to burst.

Chapter 17
chapter list / previous / next
In what little free time he was permitted in between patrols or extra long hunting missions, Tallpaw went back to visit Jake several times. All he had to do was say he preferred hunting in the Swift-Step Hills, which led up to the northern borders treeline. Jake was bolder in his exploring now that he knew the way there and back. Tallpaw never let himself stay for very long, only a brief conversation or even a wave hello, but the tiny visits were like a breath of fresh air to him. Any small moment of respite completely disconnected from his life and worries back at camp was sorely needed.
It was easy enough when he was out training with Dawnstripe, when he was too busy with her to think of much else, but he was still procrastinating a conversation with the tunnelers. Normally he wouldn’t go so close to where he knew their patrols might be working, but he was having trouble finding prey elsewhere. He’d almost given up entirely and began trailing back to camp when he spotted a large doe rabbit hopping erratically back and forth between the hollowed entrances of the tunnelers new passages. It was a newer one, dug through what may have recently been an old rabbit burrow. Tallpaw was able to sneak up on it and kill it quickly while it was looking lost. His paws sank uncomfortably into the newly scratched soil, and he winced at the feeling. He took to avoiding the tunnels altogether recently, afraid of bumping into one of the patrols and not having a graceful excuse prepared for why he hadn’t joined them yet. The last thing he needed was to accidentally collapse some fragile part of an invisible passage, so he left as quickly as he could.
It was past dawn at this point and the wind was blowing particularly strong today, bringing with it dark clouds from over the mountains, along with the damp taste in the air signaling coming rains. Tallpaw stared up at Outlook Hill, squinting against the light. Fawnleap was standing alone on top, with his claws fastened into the dirt to keep from blowing off his paws. He was stretching his neck up towards the sky, appearing to be deep in concentration. Sparrow was staring up at him from the base of the hill. Tallpaw padded up behind the small dark tom, and set his rabbit down on the ground.
“What in StarClan’s name is he doing up there?” he asked.
Sparrow didn’t turn to greet Tallpaw, but replied, “He was complaining on and on yesterday about wanting to outgrow his mentor and his siblings. So I told him there was an ancient legend that claimed if you spent long enough in a very tall place and focused all your energy on stretching up towards the sky every day that it would help you grow as much as seven mouse lengths within a season.”
Tallpaw snorted. “That’s nonsense, you can’t just will yourself to be taller. Where did you hear that?”
Sparrow looked at him “I was telling a joke,” he meowed flatly.
Sparrow’s tone of voice sounded the same no matter what he was saying. I’m not sure he knows how jokes are supposed to work... Tallpaw thought.
“Has he been up there all morning?”
“I think so.”
“You...can’t just tell Fawnleap things like that, he always takes you seriously.”
Sparrow was staring blankly back up at the spotted brown tom, who still hadn’t broken his focus.  “He’s...so stupid,” he breathed, sounding almost awe-struck.
“Hey, Fawnleap may not be the brightest cat on the moor, but he means well.” Tallpaw glanced sideways at the loner. He still couldn’t get a good read on him like he could the other visitors, who seemed to always wear their emotions plainly on their pelts. “So...how are you settling in?”
“Awkwardly.” Sparrow replied. “Some of you are alright I suppose. I don’t actually mind Fawnleap when he’s not talking my ear off. He’s less prickly than others around here. But I’ll be excited to leave.”
“Oh.” Tallpaw was a little taken aback by the bluntness in his tone when he said that. “Why is that?”
“It feels like you clan cats always have to be fighting someone. I don’t want us to get tangled up in your issues with this ‘ShadowClan.’ I don’t understand why you can’t just let them hunt on the land they want and be done with it. It’s just trees and grass. Is it really worth starting some kind of war over?”
“It’s not that simple. Our land is a part of us, it’s not just anything, that’s why we defend it. We can’t give it away carelessly.”
He caught Sparrow rolling his eyes and Tallpaw flattened his ears, but he was determined not to get into an argument. Maybe Sparrow had a reason to be prickly. They weren’t visiting for happy reasons after all, and Tallpaw tried to muster some understanding for the young loner. “None of you are going to be in danger here. ShadowClan is our problem to handle. Hen is perfectly safe in our camp.”
“Sure…” Sparrow avoided his gaze and Tallpaw saw for perhaps the first time a scrap of emotion from him as a glimmer of worry darkened his gaze. There and gone just as quickly.
“You must be worried about her,” Tallpaw said sympathetically. “It must be hard seeing the cat that kitted you so sick.”
“She didn’t kit me.”
“She didn’t? Sorry, I thought Bess said-”
“She is my mother,” he said firmly, “in every way that matters. I share no blood with any of them.”
“Oh, of course. I guess I just assumed, I mean, I know kittypets get separated from their family often but I thought loners might be different--or whatever you call yourselves.”
“You don’t even know how strange you clan cats are.” Sparrow sniffed, “I guess it’s easy staying with the cats that you’re kin with. Bess, Algernon, and Reena are after all. but most of the loners I pass don’t think much about blood. You find where you belong best by yourself, and maybe it’s not with who you happened to be born with. I never even knew my blood kin. They’re either dead or left me behind. I don’t really care. There’s only ever been Hen as far back as my memory goes. She’s my family, and I don’t want her in danger. No matter what."
Tallpaw didn’t respond. He could at least understand Sparrow’s loyalty to the old cat, it wasn’t dissimilar to the loyalty a clan cat should feel to the rest of their clanmates, but even so, he couldn’t imagine not knowing his kin at all. They were the cats who brought him into the world after all. But it must be easier choosing who fits you rather than being stuck with someone you can’t please, a small voice hissed in the back of his mind, and he immediately mentally kicked himself for thinking it. How could he be so ungrateful?
He heard Sparrow mutter under his breath "I just think the others are...too trusting sometimes. It's only luck that we haven’t gotten into much trouble with strangers on our travels so far.”
“Well... Hawkheart knows a lot about healing, and he’s doing everything he can to help her. Even if he’s a bit prickly about it.” Tallpaw said.
“I understand.” It didn’t sound like he actually did. “It must be a big ask for him to help some cat that didn’t happen to be born here.”
Sparrow’s voice made it hard to tell if he was being sarcastic.
Just in case he was, Tallpaw said “if we had more reliable resources it would be easier for us to be generous to every cat, but we only have what our territory provides, and most of the time it’s only enough for us.”
Sparrow narrowed his eyes at him. “Well you had no problem helping that dopey barncat past the moor.”
Tallpaw stiffened.
“I wasn’t following you if that’s what you’re thinking.” Sparrow continued. “You told us to stay near the trees, and Reena saw him wandering around a couple days ago, and then I saw you wandering after him. You don’t sneak around very well.”
“Oh--! Well, that’s--um…” Tallpaw sputtered. He really thought he’d been doing a good job at keeping that secret.
Sparrow rolled his eyes. “I won’t tell your clanmates if that’s what you're worried about. Neither will Reena if you don’t want her to, we’re not tattle-tails. If you want to frolic with a pet, go nuts for all I care. I don’t want to get tangled up in your...weird hang ups about outsiders or whatever. I have no reason to get you in trouble with your dad, I’m not holding a grudge against you for tackling me or anything.”
“Oh. Um.” Tallpaw gulped. “Well...thanks. I think.”
“Trust me, I wouldn’t be interested in talking to your dad for any reason. That sandy tom is your dad, right?”
Tallpaw blinked. How much had Sparrow been watching to even take note of that?
“I supposed I was worried you’d be just as rude and stuck up to us as him. We all make a point of avoiding him.” Sparrow said.
“I’d thank you not to talk about my father like that.” Tallpaw hissed defensively. “You don’t understand the pressure we’re under, and he’s doing more to protect our clan than any other cat right now.”
Sparrow looked a little surprised at Tallpaw’s shift in tone. Tallpaw was too, but his father was a great cat, and if he was rude to Sparrow it was probably because Sparrow was rude to everyone.
Sparrow blinked. “Sorry? I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I mean, I figured him being unpleasant was just an obviously observable fact. He snapped at me just for sitting here earlier. ‘Said he had gone all over looking for you and was annoyed that I didn’t know where you were, but I don’t see how that’s my fault. I guess he wants you for something. He’s waiting around camp.”
Tallpaw stared at him, “Wait, was that this morning? Why didn’t you start with that if you knew he was looking for me!?”
“Umm…” Sparrow trilled in thought. “Because I think he’s rude and annoying and I didn’t feel like doing him a favor? I say you should ditch him.”
“For StarClan’s sake! You have a lot of nerve calling any cat rude! I don’t have time for this!” Tallpaw picked up his rabbit and started dragging it around the hill. Before he disappeared into camp, he called over his shoulder, “and tell Fawnleap you made up that story! Clan cats don’t have time to mess around!”
It must be so easy for Sparrow, never having to defend anything and tagging along with his friends. He didn’t even seem to care much about the other cats in his group save for Hen and himself. Sparrow clearly didn’t know what it meant to care about anything bigger than his own paws. Tallpaw decided it was better not to try making friends with the loner after all, the last thing he needed to be doing was hanging around a cat that was antagonizing Sandstone. If Sparrow wanted to brood off on his own, then he could do what he liked and then he could leave with his friends and  Tallpaw wouldn’t have to think of him ever again. Meanwhile, Sandstone was working his paws off trying to deal with so much. And I should have been back sooner…! His tail drooped, and the brief feeling of respite he’d had traveling to the woods near the farm was swept away. It was irresponsible to be going in the first place.
In camp, Tallpaw was surprised to see Sandstone talking with Dawnstripe. Dawnstripe looked a little exasperated, but she smiled at Tallpaw as he approached.
He held his rabbit up a little higher as he trotted past them. I hope at least this makes a good excuse for taking so long.
“Great catch!” Dawnstripe called, “I wish I’d seen it, your hunting is coming along well.”
Tallpaw looked expectantly at his father, who seemed a bit distracted but eventually nodded to him, and to his immense relief he didn’t look angry to be kept waiting.
“Yes, good job Tallpaw. I’ve been looking for you! I’ve been wanting to talk to you about our project.”
“O-oh, sure ok.” Tallpaw said through muffled fur, and hurriedly went to put his catch with the rest.
“Great news, don’t worry about moor training today. You’ll be joining me on an important excavation,” Sandstone said as soon as Tallpaw scurried back over to them.
“If you want to,” Dawnstripe added quickly. “And only if you have the energy for it after your errand. It’s a sudden change of plans, but Heatherstar has agreed that all apprentices should learn more about tunneling so they know how to be safe around them. Sandstone thinks today is a particularly good day for it.”
“And it is! Now is the perfect time, don’t you agree?”
Tallpaw felt his stomach clench with fear as his father looked into his eyes. This was too sudden. Go into the tunnels today? He hadn’t had time to prepare himself. By habit, he immediately started rushing through his head for an excuse to ease himself out of it.
Dawnstripe gave him a knowing look. “It only has to be some basics and safety tips, at least knowing what fragile places not to go running over.”
But Tallpaw knew his father, and he knew there was no way he was going to be satisfied with that.
The look Sandstone was giving him confirmed just that. “We’ll start with the basics and then get more in depth from there. Tallpaw can’t be kept away from his true calling forever, Dawnstripe. I think he’s been patient long enough. He’s waited moon for this!”
Sandstone’s voice glowed with an almost triumphant pride. Dawnstripe narrowed her eyes at him and Tallpaw suddenly remembered how he’d confessed to Dawnstripe on his first day how much he hated tunneling, but he hadn’t told her about not admitting that fact to his father.
Before she could say anything, Tallpaw spoke first, feigning a confidence that he didn’t feel. “Alright, I'll try it.”
“Excellent! See Dawnstripe? I knew he’d be excited for it.” Sandstone purred.
Tallpaw gave his mentor a wide-eyed desperate look. Please don’t say anything about it! Dawnstripe’s gaze was confused, and tinged with concern, but all she did was nod slowly and say, “Well, be careful. Follow all the rules.”
Tallpaw dipped his head to her quickly as Sandstone began herding him away back out of camp. Just one day, I owe it to him to try...maybe it won't be so bad. It was difficult to really believe that. A patrol of Plumclaw, Woollycloud, Crowfur, and Mistmouse were waiting for them.
Woollycloud blinked in surprise when he saw Tallpaw. “Good morning Tallpaw, I didn’t know you’d be joining us today.” He looked questioningly at Sandstone.
“Glad to see the young cat!” Crowfur said, “the more the merrier. Or the muddier, as I always say.”
Plumclaw winced and rolled her eyes at the terrible joke but she waved her tail at him in a welcoming gesture.
“I caught Dawnstripe before she went out with him again,” Sandstone said. “This will be an important step in our bigger project and I knew Tallpaw couldn’t miss it. When he gets farther in his tunneler training, this will provide invaluable experience.” Sandstone nudged Tallpaw “You're witnessing the beginning of history you know. WindClan’s future will have a reformed network that will make us safer and stronger than ever, and you’re finally going to be a part of that.”
Tallpaw nodded, trying and failing to work up the same level of enthusiasm.
Mistmouse cocked her head “I thought we were just doing another routine check of our recently enforced tunnels today?”
Sandstone shook his head “We were, but as I was inspecting them ahead of time, I noticed the tunnels in the eastern field have finally fully thawed underground and the dampness will make the walls easier to press together without it crumbling. It’s a perfect opportunity to reinforce it before any bad weather.”
Woollycloud narrowed his eyes in concern. “But we haven’t been able to confirm that the soil is stable enough to tunnel there. The moisture could make the roof heavier as well, and there's a rabbit warren very near the area we’d risk disturbing.”
“Don’t worry so much Woollycloud, trust me! It’s perfectly stable, and if it’s not, we’ll deal with it as we always do. But we have a limited window to show Heatherstar real progress so she’ll understand why this is a good idea! Now let’s go. Keep up Tallpaw, I’ll run you through the basics on the way.”
The anxiety pricking at Tallpaw’s stomach didn’t ease much as Sandstone rattled through the rules of tunnel etiquette as they walked. The exact distance to keep between yourself and the tunneler ahead of you, how to pack dirt to the side to keep it out of the way and reinforce walls, how to use your whiskers and nose instead of your eyes to feel the walls of the tunnel and sense the direction you were going, how to feel vibrations that signified the tunnel wall was unstable. He had a faint memory of Sandstone rambling off these things to him as a kit when he practiced, but it had been just as incomprehensible then. When the spiel finished, Tallpaw’s head was spinning and he found the more desperate he was to keep the information in his mind, the faster it would slip out again.
They arrived at the stretch of ground Tallpaw had tried hunting near earlier where the grass thinned out and damp earth poked through in patches. Sandstone led the patrol to a dip and Tallpaw saw a small area where the earth sloped down into a very narrow, very dark, and very cramped looking hole, just big enough for a cat to get through. He gulped.
“It gets wider once you're inside. The entrance is a bit small.” Woollycloud said, clearly noticing the tension in Tallpaw’s body.
“This will be just like the digging practice you did as a kit.” Sandstone said. “We’re going to check out the inside and see which branched off areas are sturdy enough to fix up and expand. This will be the entrance of the tunnel that comes out on the ShadowClan border, if we can get it that far. It will be long and complicated, but that’s intentional. The more confusing, the harder it will be for potential enemies to navigate it."
A whole maze of winding tunnels that a cat could easily get lost in... The ground in front of Tallpaw seemed to yawn like a hungry mouth, waiting to clamp down on him.
“Remember what I told you,” Sandstone continued, if he could sense Tallpaw’s apprehension he didn’t make any sign of it. “Woollycloud will go ahead, then me, and you’ll stick right behind me. Mistmouse will follow behind you at a tail length.”
“And Crowfur and I will go ahead and branch to the right to test out the other path.” Plumclaw added
“And I trust my old apprentice will have no trouble with that.” Sandstone nodded with pride.
Plumclaw led Crowfur into the tunnel with confidence. Tallpaw couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy for the molly, so sure in her paw steps. She had been trained by his father and he always looked at her with approval. Stars, stop being a jealous kit and focus on what’s important right now, mouse-brain! Tallpaw chided himself.
When Woollycloud squeezed into the tunnel, Sandstone nodded to Tallpaw signaling for him to go next. He tried very hard not to visibly seize up as he put his paws at the tunnel entrance and squeezed down it.
The air became startlingly cooler against his face, and a damp chill quickly began working its way under his pelt. It was somehow even darker than Tallpaw had feared. Light quickly vanished behind them and there was nowhere else for the sun to peek through, or wind, or anything. The walls brushed against his sides, tugging uncomfortably at his fur. He was painfully aware of the weight of the earth increasing above his head as the tunnel sloped downward. Don’t think about it, don’t think about it, he repeated over and over.
“See Woollycloud?” he heard Sandstone say “The tunnel walls are still plenty sturdy.”
Woollycloud hummed in response “Perhaps. Mistmouse, the passage up here is too narrow for me, do you think you could squeeze on ahead?”
Tallpaw couldn’t see either of them, but he heard Woollycloud’s loud pawsteps get fainter. His tail twitched nervously and he accidentally whipped Mistmouse on the muzzle, who sneezed as his short hairs tickled her nose.
“Sorry.” Tallpaw croaked.
“It’s alright,” Mistmouse mewed. “I was nervous my first time too, it’s normal.”
Tallpaw felt more embarrassed than comforted, but he hoped she was right and that the thudding in his chest would stop soon. He had to awkwardly press himself to the side, but the lithe molly easily wiggled under him. He was afraid if he pushed the wall too hard, it might buckle.
“Come on, keep up!” He heard Sandstone’s eager mew suddenly farther ahead. Tallpaw hadn’t even noticed that he’d kept walking. “Let's check out this passageway. I think I remember it looping back around to the main path.”
“I can’t see you, where is your voice coming from?” Tallpaw’s mew was hoarse and shaky. Sandstone’s voice had a strange echo to it, trapped and bouncing off the walls, vibrating strangely against his sensitive ear fur. Even the noises down here sounded wrong and cramped.
“Remember to use your whiskers and your nose!” came Sandstone’s voice. Tallpaw couldn’t think clearly enough to use any sense. He had the distinct feeling any sudden or out of place movement would cause something to break, so he moved stiffly and carefully, crouched over and keeping his head ducked, careful not to touch any wall as if he could pretend that he wasn’t really trapped on all sides so long as he didn’t feel it. His chest was starting to ache as the pounding of his heart bordered on painful. It felt like he had to strain for every breath. He stumbled ahead blindly until he bumped into the stout form of Woollycloud.
“Don’t focus on what you can’t see,” the tunneler said.  “You’ll soon be able to understand how to detect sound sources in the tunnels, in fact, you’ll be able to detect them even farther than above ground.”
“It feels hard to breathe.” Tallpaw gasped. “Is there air down here?”
“Yes, we can breathe.” Woollycloud said, a gentle purr rumbling in his chest to soothe the jittery apprentice. “Take deep, slow breaths. The air tastes different, but you won’t suffocate, I promise.”
Tallpaw nodded before remembering Woollycloud wouldn’t see it. Mistmouse had come back to join them, reporting that the tunnel did open up more but the soil of the main path was feeling a bit loose, and she didn’t feel comfortable digging to make it wider. Woollycloud grumbled something to himself
“I-is it safe?” Tallpaw whispered. He was still struggling to breathe normally.
“We’ll have to use the side path, the earth is made of sturdier material.” Woollycloud said. “Your father and I would never let anything bad happen to you. You're safe as long as you're with us. Just keep padding forward, I’ll be right behind you.”
Tallpaw felt the smallest bit better as he adjusted to the dark. The air still felt thick and musty, but his lungs were working. Perhaps it was just in his head. Earthy walls brushed against his whiskers when the path widened and narrowed. He decided to close his eyes so he wouldn’t think about not being able to see, but then he was so focused on the walls that he almost ran into Sandstone.
“Here is where we’ll start digging.” Sandstone said. “This was an unfinished extra passage from moons ago, and it should loop around to the main path. Come put your paws here.” Tallpaw pawed in the dark until his father’s larger paw pressed his against the earth. “Start from higher up and work your way down to create a large enough path.”
Tallpaw obediently started to claw cautiously at the earth. Woollycloud had hung back and Tallpaw heard him sniffing at the walls as Mistmouse squeezed around to join them, her nimble paws already burrowing at the earth in small fast strokes. Tallpaw winced as his claw snagged a rock. The damp earth oozed and clumped uncomfortably under his toes. Every time he felt soil crumble, he winced, wondering if it would take the roof down with it.
“Are you sure it’s stable enough to do this?” he squeaked.
His heart sank as he heard Sandstone let out a short irritated sigh. “Tallpaw, this is my life's work. You don’t know what you’re doing yet. Don’t think, just listen to me and let me guide your claws. I’ll place your paws where they need to be”
“Ok...” Tallpaw mewed quietly.
“It can take half a day to make progress,” Sandstone said. “Slow and steady work. Of course, it’s faster the more paws we have.”
There was a hint in his voice that said ‘paws like yours would make it faster,’ and Tallpaw grimaced. It felt like it had been days already and Tallpaw never quite got over the feeling that the air was too thick to breathe. His shoulders were already sore and he longed to stretch out, but between the body of his father and Mistmouse, he couldn’t. He was stuck in the cramped, stuffy dark, trying very hard not to think about how heavy the world above him was. Just keep digging and stop thinking about it! This was his father's pride. It was important, it wasn’t supposed to be fun. What kind of warrior cared more about what they wanted than what was needed? After a while of shoving his negative thoughts down, he almost started to feel a rhythm for it as his father showed him how to press the earth to the side so it didn’t get in their way. He could space out enough and just focus on the pattern rather than the nervousness fluttering in his belly like a trapped bird. Woollycloud was close behind them focusing on smoothing and pressing down the soil in their wake. Tallpaw couldn’t help but catch a sense of apprehension in him.
“Rabbits used to use these tunnels,” the big tom said to himself. “But all the scent around here is stale. It’s strange, since there should be a warren so close.”
“I hadn’t noticed,” Sandstone replied. “They’ll come around again, and this will be an advantageous hunting spot as well.”
“Sandstone,” Woollycloud had a hint of worry in his voice, and Tallpaw froze automatically. “The soil here doesn’t smell like clay anymore. I don’t think we should dig further just yet. Maybe we should change direction.”
“We’re close, Woollycloud, it will be fine.” Sandstone panted. He seemed so eager, so sure, but Tallpaw heard Woollycloud’s tail flicking. Mistmouse had slowed down too.
Tallpaw was caught up in his father's stride and didn’t quite notice when Mistmouse said, “Hold on, do you smell that? It smells like water. The soil is much wetter here. Have we reached the marshy ground already?”
Tallpaw finally froze in place when his claws squelched loudly as they contacted mud. Something shifted above his head.
“Oh StarClan,” he heard Woollycloud whisper, and in a moment Tallpaw could have sworn his heart stopped beating.
“Don’t start panicking,” Sandstone hissed to him, “Let’s just step back and--”
The earth under Tallpaw’s paw buckled inward, sucking his pads into the ground. The solid seeming roof above his head bowed downward ever so slightly, more ooze than solid. He couldn’t see it, but he felt it. He could have sworn he heard a creak in the earth, a sound that sent a jolt down Tallpaw’s spine. Were there rocks above his head waiting to come loose? Nightmares from his kithood swirled in his vision, the earth cracking, an unnatural rattle of death surrounding him on all sides, promising to sink him into the rotting, choking earth, crushing the air from his lungs and the bones in his body. It all flashed through in an instant, he couldn’t move, he forgot how to breathe, he was frozen, staring at where he could picture the roof of the tunnel bowing down another hair's breadth.
“Tallpaw, we need to--”
There was a warning in his father's voice, Woollycloud said something but Tallpaw’s heart had started hammering so loud it echoed in his ears. A tiny clod of dirt fell from the roof and bounced off his muzzle. That was all it took for every bit of tension in his body to break all at once. The panic he’d held back and stuffed down burst forward like a violent flood, and Tallpaw wheeled around with a screech. Whatever was in front of him was knocked to the side, and just behind him the earth growled and the roof started to sink in. Tallpaw heard a screech of fear and pain and he wasn’t sure if it was coming from him or not, he was only able to run, and run he did.
He couldn’t see and he couldn’t focus on his senses. He tried to remember the way they had come in, but they had twisted and turned so much there was no way to keep it straight and his mind was too shot through with panic to bother trying.
“Wait Tallpaw!” That might have been Woollycloud, or it might have been his father, he couldn’t tell in the echo of the tunnel. “We must stay together! Keep to the right!” they yowled.
Tallpaw screeched as he smashed headlong into a hard wall. Pain flashed through his muzzle, but he barely registered it for more than a second before he was running again. faster faster faster his mind chanted in increasing dread I’m going to be trapped, i’m going to be lost, i’ll be crushed, help, help, please someone help! Where's the light? Where where where-- His own thoughts hardly felt like words anymore as they dissolved into frightened babbling and yowling for a way out of this nightmare. He thought he’d reached a dead end and wheeled around with a ragged wail of fear and helplessness, starting again in another direction, but he was turned around now and he didn’t know if he was running back the way he’d come. He smashed into something he thought was a wall, but it yowled back at him and yanked him another direction with a rough bite to his scruff.
“That way, you mouse-brain! Keep your head on and go straight!”
Tallpaw was in no position to fight against it and let himself be herded onward by whoever was just at his pawsteps, shoving him left and right, and grabbing his tail hard when he tried to turn the wrong way, until, to the greatest relief Tallpaw had ever felt in his life, light started to enter his vision. It grew until Tallpaw dove out of the hole they had come in through, tumbled over his paws and landed with a thump on his belly, gasping for breath. Plumclaw was standing over him glowering, her ruffled gray fur bristling. “What in StarClan’s name was all that!? Where did you think you were going?”
Tallpaw couldn’t answer. He was panting and shaking too hard. Suddenly all of them were surrounding him, saying things at him, it all just sounded like noise. Tallpaw’s body was telling him to run, and it was a struggle not to give into it. The thing that finally broke through the noise was his father.
“Tallpaw!” Sandstone yowled, and Tallpaw jumped as he realized he’d been yowling for a while now.
“W-What?” Tallpaw wheezed.
“What have I told you over and over? You don’t ever ever panic like that when you're underground! You nearly got Mistmouse seriously hurt and you ignored every order! You’re lucky Plumclaw found you before you ended up completely lost, I told you to stay with me no matter what!”
“M-Mistmouse?” Tallpaw stuttered in a daze. His gaze blearily settled on the small dusty gray tabby. There was a gash just behind her front leg and Plumclaw was beside her trying to lick the dirt from the cut.
“You piled into her and knocked her into the wall when you ran! Don’t you know how dangerous that is? Why didn’t you trust me?”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t know what happened--” his sentence choked off with a ragged gasping cough. His lungs were still not cooperating.
“Give him a moment,” he heard Woollycloud’s voice. “He’s had a fright”
“I’m alright,” Mistmouse offered, though there was a quiver in her voice as well. “It’s not so bad…”
“Don’t make light of the situation, Mistmouse!” Sandstone growled.
“I didn’t mean to,” Tallpaw tried, “I thought I was going to be crushed like--”
He almost said “like Leafshine”, but he caught himself.
“Of course you wouldn’t have been!” Sandstone snapped. “The collapse was only a couple tail lengths long. We could have stepped back and been alright, but we had to help Mistmouse up to get her out and then find you.”
“The important thing,” Woollycloud said, “Is that all of us are here and safe.”
Sandstone took a breath trying to rein in his anger, and gave Tallpaw a withering look. “Tallpaw, but what happened to you in there? Why didn’t you listen when I told you to stop?”
Tallpaw didn’t know what to say. Shame started to replace the panic squeezing at his chest, threatening to crush him the same way the earth had tried to.
“I’m sorry” he whispered again, feeling his voice had abandoned him along with the rest of his strength. “I don’t know what came over me I was just--I was just so scared.” A flicker of frustration began to burn under the shame and lingering fear. The frustration must have come through if only for a moment as some small, very small, part of Tallpaw was crying out that it wasn’t fair for Sandstone to have expected this. “You were saying so much and I didn’t know how to keep it all straight! I can’t remember everything you say when I only had the morning!” He was surprised to hear it in his voice, as weak as it was. He’d never sounded even a little cross with his father before.
Sandstone glared at him for a long moment. Then he shook his head and fell silent. Tallpaw’s frustration was snuffed out as every long second that passed by sent that crushing shame clawing further up his throat. He expected his father to match his frustration with a bellowing anger, but instead after several agonizing heartbeats, what he finally said was “No...I blame myself.”
Tallpaw was confused by the sudden change of tone and immediately regretted his little outburst after seeing the hurt on his father’s face. Sandstone had flipped from anger to dejection in a heartbeat.
“W-what? No, it wasn’t your fault,” Tallpaw stuttered. He was the one that panicked, why would it be Sandstone’s fault?
“I delayed this too long.” Sandstone gritted his teeth. “I expected my kit to be such a natural, you should be more than ready by now, but I didn’t push hard enough against Heatherstar. I let you go on, thinking that you would get sick of moor running on your own and neglected the precious training time you had when you were younger. It’s my fault for not trying harder to prepare you.”
Tallpaw wished desperately Sandstone had just yelled at him, the bleakness in his father's eyes hurt more than anything.
“No, no, it won’t--!” Tallpaw started, but his voice caught in his throat as the sentence choked before it came out. He almost said ‘it won’t happen next time, next time i’m sure i’ll do better.’ But he didn’t know how to continue. Next time? What next time? How could he bear going down there again?
Woollycloud stepped forward. “We should go back to camp and let Mistmouse get looked at. We’ll also need to have a meeting between us. I don’t know if these tunnels are going to be able to do what we want them to do.” His voice sounded hard in a way Tallpaw wasn’t accustomed to hearing from the gentle tom. Tallpaw was afraid to look up at him.
Mistmouse walked with a bit of a limp that sent another wave of guilt crashing over the still shaky apprentice. His panic hadn’t just hurt him, but his clanmates as well. He wondered if Ryewhisker and her siblings would be angry with him for putting their mother in danger.
As they walked, Woollycloud leaned down and whispered to Tallpaw, who was trailing behind the group, “It’s alright. This was...a lot to ask of you for your first tunneling experience.”
I should have been able to do this though... He looked after Sandstone miserably. He couldn’t bear to see his father look at him with such disappointment. Tallpaw just wanted him to be happy. But he never would be, not if this is all he wanted his son to do.

Flashback
I’ve been running all over the world for about 80 years, how, well I’m a vampire, I look like I’m 19 years old but I’m over 80 years old.
Right now I stop on a little town called Forks, since I’m too hungry to go find for humans I feed on the animals I encounter, this will be enough for now. I finish my meal when I wear steps, people, quickly with my reddish gold eyes I look behind and see a couple, a vampire couple.
“Hello!” The only woman says, with a weird pixie cut hair. “Easy Alice.” A weird blond guy says. “I’m Alice and this is Jasper.” She says smiling. “I don’t care.” I say angry, hatting meeting new people. “I know you’re alone you can come with us.” Alice says and I say no.
End Flashback
And here I am now, in the Cullen’s house after they forcibly adopted, I try to escape many times but Alice always knows.
“You should really stop trying.” Edward says reading my mind. “Can you stop, you always invading people privacy, don’t you feel shame about it?” I ask him, starting to freeze him on the ground, the vampire I hate the most here, I see his angry face and I hear Emmett laughing on the other side of the house. “I’m going for a walk.” I say leaving in a human pace. “Aren’t you forgetting something?” Edward asks me still frozen on the floor. “No.” I say smirking. “Be careful with the treaty.” Carlisle says smiling at me. “I know.” I only answer. “Be safe honey.” Esme says and I nod to her, I respected her just a little.
I leave that stupid house and start running around the forest, sighing in relief, I sat near the stream just looking at the cloud sky enjoying the quiet until I hear a dog growl, I look on the other side and see a light brown golden giant wolf, I guess this is the stupid werewolves Rosalie insults almost every day. “Look, giant wolf, I’m not even trespassing so fuck off.” I say, closing my eyes trying to enjoy the peace again, I hear him making more noises, so getting angry I look back at him. “I don’t read mind like that fucker of Edward, so I have no idea what are you even saying.” I say, the wolf stops and leaves back to the forest, confused I just watch and I see a man, actually, a very handsome man coming from the forest.
The smell....why does he smell so good.
 Jacob Pov’s
I was doing patrol near the stream when I see one of them, a new one, I guess the rumours were right there was a new vampire, I get closer and grow at her.     “Look, giant wolf, I’m not even trespassing so fuck off.” She says, closing her eyes I make more noises trying to make her leave, she looks at me angry. “I don’t read mind like that fucker of Edward, so I have no idea what are you even saying.” She says, making me surprised, I go back to the forest to transform because is not everyday you meet a vampire who is a hater Edward as much as me.
I went back but this time I look right at her eyes and everything changes, her smell, her voice and I see my future beside her. “Shit.” I think to myself.
“Why do you hate that bloodsucker?” I ask her trying not to show many emotions. “You kidding? Have you looked at him? He has that face like he finds everyone disgusting.” She says laughing, I smile but quickly stop thinking about Bella. “What’s your name?” I ask curious. “Y/N, you?” “I’m Jacob Black.” I say. “Oh, so it’s you, the famous Jacob, I see it now. Good to finally have a face to the name.” She says smirking. “I see you heard about me.” I say angry that they are talking about me. “Not by choice honey.” She says making my heart jump hearing the nickname.
“Anyway, you need to leave, now.” I say. “And here I thought we were starting to get along.” She says. “I don’t befriend bloodsuckers.” I say and I see her get sad.
 Y/N Pov’s
“Anyway, you need to leave, now.” He says. “And here I thought we were starting to get along.” I say joking. “I don’t befriend bloodsuckers.” I say and I feel sad after that. “I don’t befriend wet dogs anyway.” I say starting to leave, I look behind and see him looking at me somehow sad.
 Some Days Later
I try going to the stream everyday trying to see him again, but no luck.
I’m in my usual stone, enjoying the peace of the forest when I hear a noise looking on the other size, really deep I hope it’s him but I got disappointed when I saw a dark brow with black spots looking at me somehow innocently. “Well aren’t you cute!” I say joking, but he goes back to the forest. “Why all of them do that?” I ask loud to myself. “Hi!” A boy comes back, smiling big. “Hello.” I say also smiling seeing his innocent big smile. “I’m Seth!” He says. “I’m Y/N, nice to meet you cute wolf.” I say and he blushes.
Seth and I have been talking for hours, never knew a cute boy like him could talk so much but I didn’t mind, at least I made a friend.
“I should go cute boy, you should go to.” I say getting up. “Right, right! I hope we can talk again Y/N.” He says smiling. “Me too, kid.” I say also smiling but our moment was cut down by the one I was always waiting. “Seth you should be patrolling.” Jacob says in his human form.  “Sorry Jake. Bye Y/N!” Seth says leaving. “Cute kid.” I say to Jacob. “I told you to not comeback.” Jacob growls. “I may be old but I’m pretty sure you just told me to leave that day.” I say smirking to his angry face. “Then I tell you now, leave and don’t comeback.” He says making me angry. “I can go anywhere I want, I’m on my side of the treaty. Go bother Bella or something, well, if she isn’t busy with Edward.” I say getting angry. “Don’t talk about Bella!” He says. “Or what? Are you going to kill me?” I say making him transform to wolf. “I’m so scary! A big smelly wet wolf!” I say starting to freeze everything around me making Jacob step back, even if he was on the other side.
We stay quiet looking at each other until I shake my head, sad, and start leaving.
Bella’s and Edward’s Wedding (Her dress in the photo above)
It’s the wedding day with my beautiful grey dress and right now I’m next to Rosalie on the wedding chairs, in the ceremony waiting for Bella to come in, I look around smelling something familiar and the other side I see Seth waving shy at me, making me smile and wave back, I look to the men next to him looking at me, not with disgust or fear, just looking, he makes me remember someone then he nods at me and I nod back.
The music starts and I see Bella coming with her father, looking at her and Edward I couldn’t stop myself thinking in their place could be me and Jacob. “Stop Y/N! Don’t start thinking about that mutt.” I think to myself, two days before the wedding I found out why he smelt different from Seth and I which I didn’t know.
 Flashback
“Esme, can’t I make a question?” I ask the only normal vampire of this family. “Of course!” She smiles. “What does it mean when someone you just meet, just smells different?” I ask, and she pauses looking at me shocked making me scared. “You found out la tua cantante, your soulmate.” She says now smiling, I look at her scared. “Shit.” I think.
End Flashback
Now I’m bored out of my mind in the wedding party looking at the different vampires, trying to approach me but I always back away.
“Hi Y/N!” Seth says getting closer. “Hi Seth. Enjoying the party?” I say hugging him from his side, feeling the vampires staring at us. “I’m loving it! The food is great!” e says smiling without caring about the eyes on us, that’s why I like this kid. “I take your word of it.” I say laughing of his embarrassed face. “Seth.” A voice behind him says. “Ha! Y/N this is Billy Black, Jake’s dad.” Seth introduces. “I see. It’s nice to meet you sir.” I say, and he only nods at me In respect, so that’s why he was s familiar.
I spent the wedding party talking with Seth and sometimes Jacob father, but at one time I see Bella and Edward going somewhere, then I heard screams, screams of a very familiar voice.
“She’ll die.” I hear him, getting closer to them and see some wolfs with Jacob. “How does she still concern you? She’s married now.” I say getting jealous. “Y/N...” Seth says behind me. “Stay out of this Y/N!” Jacob says. “You know each other?” Bella asks. “Unfortunately.” Jacob says hurting me. “Jacob.” One older man says looking at me. “He knows. How?” I think. “You hurting me Jacob, but I guess it hurts more seeing the girl you love getting marry.” I say angry. “Y/N, stop.” Seth touches me trying to make me stop by seeing Jacob shake. “Get away from her Seth. She’s a bloodsucker, she’s just getting closer to you to kill you.” Jacob says angry. “You son of....” I say but Seth interrupts. “I’ll see you later Y/N.” Seth smiles to me sadly going away with Jacob. “I hate you, dumb wolf.” I say making him freeze for a second and looking at me hurt but going away quickly. “I hate you more bloodsucker.” With that I speed run to the house before Bella could question me.
 Days Later
Many days have passed since the wedding and I never saw Jacob since then but I’m hurting because of it, so I try distracting my self talking to Seth on the phone, then the news came, Bella was pregnant.
After I heard about the news I go take a walk in the forest processing about everything. “Y/N. I know you there.” I hear him but I ignore him. “I know you can hear me.” Sighing I speed run towards him on the stream. “What do you want wet dog?”I ask. “Look I’m sorry at the wedding, I was just angry.” He says with a cute face I couldn’t resist. “It’s fine, I guess.” I say. “Good.” He smiles making me smile back. “So, have you heard anything about Bella?” He asks. “Are you joking? So that’ why you came apology.” I say getting angry, why didn’t I think about this. “What?” he asks. “All you care is Bella! Bella here, Bella there!” I say angry. “THAT’S NOT TRUE!” He screams. “OF COURSE IT IS!” I scream. “I CARE ABOUT YOU TOO!” He suddenly screams, noticing what he said he transforms and run away. “What....” I think shocked.
Two days have passed since Jacob told me that, right now I was at home, sitting in one of the living rooms with everyone while looking at Bella on the couch, then I hear a motorcycle, and I smell him coming. Carlisle is the one going.
“They came home two weeks ago.” Carlisle says and I hear them coming. I see Jacob entering, and he looks at Rosalie and Edward then at me, which he starts for a couple of minutes but starts going towards Bella. “Of course, he came because of her.” I think. I leave the room not wanting to be part of this, and I knew they all looked at me.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Jacob says getting next to me. “Woah, you left Bella side? A miracle!” I say joking, angry. “I’m sorry, for everything....I just...I don’t even know.” Jacob says. “You like her Jacob, but you need to know she doesn’t like you back.” I say. “Jake.” He says. “What?” “Call me Jake.” “Okay, Jake.” I say smiling.
From the past few days Jake stayed helping us with Bella. “Your cold.” Edward says to Bella. “I got it.” Jake says getting up from my side towards her. “We need to find a away to get some food into her system. “ Esme says. “And in mine too.” I say making Jasper and Emmett smirk at me, noticing how hungry we were, it has been a long time since we feed. Jake looks at me worried and I smile a little at him.
Everything passed to fast, Jake getting closer and nicer to me, Bella giving birth, Bella dying and now Seth did something to Renesmee. “Wait, wait what?” I asked confuse towards the three wolves. “Seth imprinted on Renesmee, I can’t believe it!” Leah says, sister of Seth who surprisingly tolerates me. “What is that?” I ask them both brother and sister look at Jake who was looking at me. “Let’s talk in private.” He says leaving and I follow him confused.
“Imprint, is like love at first sight, it happens when a wolf finds his soulmate, that persons becomes their everything, they will love her, care for her, protect her, no matter what. When you find the person, it’s like every problem disappears and you only see her, you can see your future with her.” Jake says making me think. “It sounds like you know the feeling.” I say. “I do.” He says and looks at me. “I imprinted on you since the first time I saw you.” He says and I looked shocked not knowing what to say. “At first I didn’t accept it, but the more I knew you, the more in love I felt about you.” He says smiling. “You little shit. You really are a dumb wet dog.” I say smiling, if I could cry I would. “And you are a stupid bloodsucker. My bloodsucker.” He says laughing and for the first time we kissed.
We hear Seth celebrating behind the trees. “Seth! Shut up! They are hearing you!” Leah says. “SORRY GUYS!” Seth screams way too happy. “That kid.” Jake says making me laugh more, and we kiss again, finally, we were happy.
Actually, everyone was happy.

Adore you
Summary: Sam and Emily finally get to their wedding day. The outside venue is beautiful and everything is in order except for the fact that Embry and you are fighting.
Tumblr media
La Push, ah. What a wonderful- dare say mystical place to be. Waves roared violently against the beach, crashing roughly into the minuscule pieces of sand. Rain pelted among the ground, mixing with ocean, grass, sand, skin, and materials. Clothes stuck to russet toned flesh, sticking like a temporary tattoo for a child.
Panting hard, Embry Call's hands reached up his hands to pushed back Y/N's hair away from her neck, peeling the thick mop away to rest on the other side. Her eyes refused to meet his, wavering to look at the waves. She wished she was anywhere on Earth but in front of him. The way he looked at her hurt. His face held the upmost gaze of betrayal, beautiful brown orbs burning you from the inside out.
Behind her ear held the mark that would cause wretching heartache. A dainty black tattoo rested, rooting anger between the two. Tattoos were meant to be meant to have a deep meaning, and her's did. It was a sail boat. A symbol for the sea. Vast area of the unknown that humans did not get the privledge of ruining. Getting their hands and tainting the beauty it beheld. Embry did not mind her logic behind it, nor did he dislike her love for the sea. But the tattoo. He hated it. Disgust curled in his stomach, gripping his ribs like quicksand and pulling. He wanted to scream.
"You lied."
His words came off venomously. A snake's bite. Harsh syllables announciated with distrust. And pain. Mostly pain. You bit your lip to stop it from trembling. Crying would not solve the issue that was present because you betrayed him. Broke his heart a bit when you swore to guard it and protect the beautiful organ.
"I'm sorry, Embry. It was impulsive-"
He cut you off by shriveling back by your words. A cold laugh escaped his lips, "Damn right it was impulsive. Must've been if you couldn't have talked to me about it."
Fighting over a tattoo seemed dumb. But not in this situation. Embry was not mad that you got a tattoo. It was that the sailboat was your first tattoo. Years ago you promised Embry at the ripe age of 13 that you two would get your first one together. You a small sun and him a small moon. Both on your hips so that it would be a private thing. The ultimate proclamation of love. It was obvious as kids that you two were meant to be, even before you were his imprint. You were raised as best friends. Learned together. Aged together. Grew as individuals together. When the promise was made and 13 you had not yet been lovers, but it was a promise as two beings connected molecularly as best friends.
Even dating you two were still best friends. No one understood you like Embry, and no one ever would. His corny jokes made you laugh so hard that snorts would skip out of your nose. His hugs melted you to the bones. He made you feel complete. Best friends turned lovers, but best friends still for eternity.
"I didn't tell you to avoid this! I knew a fight would ensue." You cried out helplessly, feeling incredibly guilty but defensive at the same time.
"Why do it then? Or maybe consider taking to me about it, telling me at the least. You hid this for, well, it has to have been a while. Clearly healed." He deadpanned, pointing to it like it cut his foot off.
"It's been three weeks, Em."
His eyes lit up in realization, "You wouldn't have sex with me in the daylight. I figured it was just odd timing but no. Just blatantly lying to me to cover this up."
Tears welled in your eyes at how removed your gentle boyfriend was. You didn't recognize the person in front of you. Not that you didn't fully deserve it, but it still stung to see the love of your life so repulsed by your actions. Your female best friend convinced you to get one with her when her long time girlfriend broke her heart. She said she needed it to heal. And you. Against your better judgement, your ass was in a leather chair while a needle plunged relentlessly into your skin. You loved her and wanted to be there for her. Your mind was foggy when it happened due to a few drinks in you too.
Your best friend knew that you and Em talked about getting tattoos together, but she didn't know it was such a sacred vowel or else she never would have helped you break it. She got an eye that had a ring around it like a planet on her forearm. She was an artist and drew it up herself. It meant a lot to her. You loved her, but now you were paying for the actions.
"Y/bff/n made you get this?"
"What?! No! Of course not. I willingly did it, but a few drinks were in me. Which doesn't excuse it, but she got one too. Not like marching or anything..."
Embry stared.
You scrambled to get in as much as you could without interruption, "Wholeheartedly my heart is pounding with guilt that I broke our pact to get our first tattoo together. But to be fair you already have yours."
Embry shook his head in disbelief, "Are you fucking me right now? It wasn't my choice to get this. It's membership into the pack, Y/N. My culture."
You sighed, "I know that Embry, and I'm not trying to disrespect that. I love you and the pack. I love your culture. Undoubtedly it's your first tattoo though. We can get our second together."
You tried to grab his hand but he pulled it away, searing a burn mark right into your heart. Rain pelted down even harder. What had been a nice beach date went to hell when Embry went to move your hair back to kiss your neck when he saw it. Usually you could dodge his attempts to get close to there, but you were so blissed out by his intoxicating kisses that your mind wasn't all there. Ironically the weather went to shit as soon as fighting began.
"Don't touch me. I don't want to hurt you." What you failed to notice earlier was that his hands were shaking. Typically you could caress his bicep or face and he would melt into you. Today the same touches would have the opposite effect. No matter how angry he was, he was terrified to harm you. Any wound inflicted by him would drive him crazy. He loved you. Forever. Even when he was furious he was cautious to keep you safe. This only made you feel worse.
"I think I rather have you physically hurt me than you be angry with me." You mumbled, sniffling at how bad you just wanted to touch him.
He snarled. His veins bulged as he pointed at you, "Shut up! How dare you wish for something like that?"
"I don't wish for that. I'm just saying us fighting is unbearable!"
"You just said you rather me hurt you physically! You want scars like Emily? You want me to be in withering pain and agony as you bleed on the floor?!" He bellowed, shaking even worse.
You let out a sob at his words. This all escalated too quickly. His eyes softened momentarily at your cry but his anger got the best of him as he reminded himself why you were crying. He scrambled to throw his clothes off. His body contorted until his grey wolf stood tall in front of you.
It whimpered, but turned and booked it for the woods. Leaving you alone with his clothes, the rain, guilt, heartache, and the beach. You slid down to your knees, clutching his shirt to your chest.
Emily's wedding was tomorrow. She would look gorgeous in her wedding dress, smile beaming with every step down the aisle towards her wolf. Laughs, happy tears, and hugs would be shared between the wedding and reception. Of course dancing would be a necessity. You were unsure if you were going to be involved in their experience anymore. The pack loved you. You were one of them. But with Embry so upset and not knowing when you two would makeup, maybe it was for the best if you stayed home.
Half an hour later you were still on the beach crying. Jacob ran next to you, scooping you up in his strong arms. You snuggled into his warmth, wishing that it was Embry instead. After everything you still wanted him to be with you. Jacob took you home and helped you dry off before leading you into the shower to encourage you to take a hot shower. If you got sick Embry wouldn't be happy with his packmate.
He sat in the livingroom as you got dressed in the bathroom. You sheepishly walked out, embarrassed of the state he had found you in. His large frame took up the lounge chair. Two cups of hot tea sat on the coffee table.
"For me?" You asked, gesturing to the cup. He picked one up and handed it to you before taking his own. It felt good going down your throat. Warm and reassuring.
"Embry should not have phased like that. He feels like an ass for losing control like that." Jake began.
"He had enough control to strip first. I wasn't in danger." You assured.
Jake nodded, "I saw the whole fight go down. I was on patrol."
You laughed sadly. Poor Jacob had to relive Embry's anger and pain through the shared pack bond. He seemed to not be effected by it. You wondered how Embry was doing now. Texting him seemed like a bad idea. Especially with how things were left.
"It was an ugly fight. Worst one to date. His eyes held repulsion, Jake. Like he could barely look at me. This tattoo is giving me hell."
Jake sighed, motioning for you to come sit next to him. You squeezed into the chair with him, resting on his lap. Jake was like your brother that would help you through anything. His warm hand rubbed your back lightly to assure you that he was there. He would always be there.
"Life is weird and there's a lot that I don't know. What I do know is that if anyone is meant to be together, it's you two. Bonded and meant to be before he even shifted. Imprints are strong but you two are even more. This fight is a pebble that will chip away, I promise."
"Thanks but I don't know. He looked crushed. Phasing like that.. showing up to the wedding tomorrow might not be good. I'm not going."
Jake recoiled, "What? Of course you have to attend! Emily wants you there. Screw Embry. Tomorrow is about Sam and Emily and they certainly need you there. You're family."
"Don't say screw him." You mumbled. Feeling defensive was part of the bond, "I will think about it."
Jake ignored you scolding him because he understood the loyalty you felt for Embry. He felt the same exact way towards Reneesme. Rough times caused fighting like any other couple, but the bond required unconditional love and affection. Some portrayed it as toxic, but you didn't. Relationships typically didn't happen like this but you couldn't stay mad at Embry while growing up. It was an impossible defeat.
"You're a bridesmaid, not going would be terrible. Embry wants you there whether he admits it right now or not. I'll come pick you up, make sure you go."
You sighed, nodding. Lack of your presence would only cause a bigger rift between you two. On top of that, Emily would be crushed and that would make Sam frustrated towards you too. And that would lead to arguing between Sam and Embry because another wolf cannot be rude to an imprint. You helped plan this wedding and you deserved to be there. Jake was giving you big puppy dog eyes. Begging like Embry did. Begging that you could not deny.
"Fine."
Jake stood up, "I will see your pretty face tomorrow."
***
Hours later you laid in bed. Ceiling fan high blast cooling the room. Goosebumps danced across your skin, chilling you more than it should. Embry's warm embrace should've sheltered you from the breeze, making the ceiling fan actually necessary compared to his radiating heat. He wasn't with you tonight. You were alone. Restless. Where did he go if he didn't come home to you? Was he on Jared's couch? Sharing Quil's bed like he did when they were kids? Back home with his mom?
Phone screen said 2:41. Four hours after you laid down. Sleep was battling you, heart beating too fast with each memory of the argument. His hurt tone rang through your ears. Past text messages assured you that things would get better between you two. His corny jokes and memes made joy fill you.
This fight was dumb.
Your thumbs typed out all the words you wanted to say and you were about to send it you saw three dots meaning that he was typing too. He was reaching out too! The three dots dissapeared with a lack of text. Mood officially dampened. Who knew texting could be an emotional roller coaster.
Hours later your ass was seated in an uncomfortable chair while your hair was being done. Makeup had been applied an hour ago and you already wanted it off. Your upset hands liked to rest on your face and makeup didn't allow that. Emily and the other girls were chirpy. Gorgeous teeth on show from beaming. You did your best to match their mood. Key word, tried.
"Okay, you're hair is done. Go get in your dress!" Emily cooed, hands on either side of your shoulder. You offered a smile.
Putting on the dress took help from Leah. She was in a sour mood. Her first love getting married to her cousin and all. It was reasonable and truly expected. She may be a shape shifter, but human she still was. Her warm hands zipped up the back of the dress. Leah sensed your bad vibe like second nature.
"Go find Embry, makeout for a minute and get over with whatever the hell this is. It's ridiculous. You two are disgustingly in love. Fix it because it's dragging us all down." Her words were honest. Leah was always honest. Basically in her DNA.
You snorted, "We are not making out here. Im sorry that this is impacting you guys too, but this is not getting dealt with today. Emily and Sam are getting married."
"Won't be perfect if our favorite couple is on the outs."
"Favorite couple?" You questioned.
She nodded as if her sentence was as obvious as stating that the vast sky was blue. You rolled your eyes and moved the bottom of the dress so that it was in place. The light pink silk dress suited you. It suited all of the bridesmaids. Nice dress. Emily had great taste. Speaking of the devil, Emily walked around the corner. Her brown eyes widened at the sight of you and Leah. As if it wasnt her wedding day. As if she wasn't the most stunning looking woman for the day.
"Gorgeous! Oh my goodness, you both look amazing. Thank you for sharing this day with me," her eyes shifted to her Leah, "Especially you, Leah. I know I don't deserve your support considering what happened on your wedding day, but it means the world to me that you are here."
"Yep." Leah gave a tight smile. Emily's face fell at the lack of words from her cousin. You sighed and nudged Leah. She rolled her eyes but tried, "This isn't easy but I'm doing it. For you."
Emily closed the distance between them and pulled her cousin in for a hug. Tension resides and still would for a while, but the bond was slowly mending. Cousin like sisters trying to reconnect. It was hard when Leah was the one who lost everything and Emily gained what she had. Leah still did have one thing. Seth. And you. Seth was her brother and best friend. He always had her back. But you did too. Days after Embry introduced you to the pack you befriended her.
You felt intrusive of the moment so you walked out into the hall. A few doors down led to the outside. Some fresh air would be lovely. Sunshine fluttered through the glass door when you arrived. Glancing outside you halted.
Embry.
Black material covered his toned body, rose sitting perfectly on his left peck. His brown floppy hair was styled perfectly. Your fingers longed to run through the thick locks. You should've been the one to help him do his hair rather than peaking at him behind a door like a child that is supposed to be in time out. He was standing with Jake and Quil. His two friends were laughing as Embry leaned against the wall. Not laughing. Although his face didn't look miserable like yours did.
Jake's eye caught yours and you froze, terrified of what would happen next. Talking to Embry in front of them would most likely cause more issues. You knew Jake would side with you and Quil would side with Embry. Quil was forever Embry's best friend. Jake could see past that.
"There's Y/N." Jake spoke. Embry leaned off the wall and looked around for you. And there you were. Looking gorgeous as ever on the other side of the door. His face faltered into vulnerability as he realized how sad you looked. He did that. He made you sad. Before he could do anything you walked away. He grunted in annoyance, hitting the brick wall behind him.
"Fuck!"
Line up for walking down the isle was what you dreaded because obviously Embry was your match. Room silent as you grudgingly came to stand beside him. His eyes scanned over your beautiful face in sorrow. You busied yourself by picking at your nails. A tick that you did when you avoided confrontation.
Walking down the isle, an arm intertwined in his was mandatory. You did it. Sparks flew up your arm at touching him after so long. His warm skin blazed against yours pleasantly. During the wedding Embry kept stealing glances at you. You noticed and held his gaze when you could.
Sam and Emily's vowels were beautiful. Raw and true words about their unconditional love. Hell Emily has scars on her face from his anger and they got past that. Certainly you could get over Embry shifting yesterday. He did look incredibly handsome across from you.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife."
The crowd cheered as Sam and Emily kissed. He dipped her back like a princess and the cheers only got louder. Kim nudged your shoulder and you two shared a smile when they road off to the reception hall in their decorated car.
You contemplated how you would get to the reception yourself. You arrived with Jake but your body was buzzing with anticipation to touch your boyfriend. Fighting seemed pointless. Today was about love. And you loved eachother. This tattoo was permanent but so were you guys.
Embry was leaning against his truck when your knuckles tapped on the door. He jumped at the surprise but he calmed down when he saw it was you. Looking beautiful as ever. Your hair blew in the wind, giving him a nervous smile.
"You look gorgeous, baby." He lowly said, gesturing to you.
You blushed, "Thanks. Not so shabby yourself, mister."
"I love you." He blurted, "I love you so much. I'm sorry for yesterday. I'm sorry for yelling at you. I'm especially fucking sorry for phasing."
Your eyes watered as you walked straight into his blazing embrace. He scrambled to pull you as close as possible. Your hands clutched the fabric of his tux as his hands gently rubbed up and down your back. Your mind was flooding with euphoria at how close he was to you. Intoxicating. You hadn't been this far away from Embry for so long since you were fifteen.
"I'm sorry for my tattoo. It was shitty of me not to talk to you about it."
"I was just hurt that you got one without me. I wanted your first tattoo to be shared with me. It was selfish. You may be my imprint, but it's still your body." He confessed.
You pulled away so that you could look up at him, "Yes. My body is mine. But my soul is undoubtedly mixed with yours, belongs to you. Getting a tattoo doesn't make that any less."
An infectious smile broke out on his face. His hands cupped your face as he brought you closer, noses rubbing affectionately. His hand moved to your chain to raise it up, lips slotting quickly against yours. His tongue slipped into your mouth, eliciting a moan. You pulled back when you heard someone behind you two.
Jake stood there with a shit eating grin, "Was gonna ask if you needed a ride but you two clearly made up."
"Shut up dude." Embry groaned, pressing a few kisses to your cheek, "I missed her."
"Yeah, as if the whole pack didn't know that. See you guys at the reception." Jake retorted.
"See ya Jake!" You called out.
"Think we can manage a quickie before the reception?" Embry asked, hands dangerously roaming your body as he lifted you into the truck. You laughed as you were put on your back in the backseat. Your head lifted to see that no other cars were in the parking lot. You hummed as he shut the door and climbed on top of you. His hands pushed the dress off from your shoulders, head dipping down to appreciate what was his.
"This is a church parking lot." You teased as his tongue ran along your collar bone, hot saliva trailing behind. You grabbed his head and pulled it back up so that he could look at you.
"Yeah and? Everything about you is holy."
You snorted, pulling him down for another kiss. His warm hands slipped under your dress and grabbed your thighs, soft flesh melting against his. He pulled your hips up closer to him, grinding into you. You moaned at how his body moved against yours, two bodys and basically one soul. His lips moved to press hot kisses to your neck until they sucked on your tattoo.
"I think I actually like this spotch of ink." He murmured, running his tongue over it as he bunched up your dress to rest around your torso.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah. It's hot."
Twenty minutes later you two walked into the reception hall hand in hand. Embry was especially lovey after the ten minutes spent in his truck. You both made sure that no evidence of your quickie was present. Emily and Sam were sharing their first dance in the middle of the dance floor. You led him to your table where Jake, Quil, Jared, Kim, Paul, and Rachel sat. Seth and Leah sat with Sue and Charlie a table over.
"Hot make up sex?" Paul teased as Embry pulled your chair out for you.
You shook your head at his blunt question. It wasn't like your sex life was a secret. Embry could not keep those thoughts to himself when he was shifted. Actually none of the boys could. It was how it went. Over time you got used to it. It wasn't Embry's fault.
"The best." Embry said intertwining your hands, "But not that that's any of your concern."
Paul raised his hands in surrender. The hothead knew better than to overstep and disrespect a fellow wolf and imprint. That would lead to a fight and Sam would murder them.
"Don't listen to Paul. We're glad that you two fixed things." Kim sweetly said. Her eyes were always so wide and kind.
"Yeah, bunch'a miserable kids in love. Embry was mopey all morning." Jared added.
Embry rolled his eyes, thumb rubbing affectionately across the top of your soft hand, "Beg to differ.."
"Oh wanna bet, Call?! You leaned against walls and didn't talk. Like uh," Paul snapped his fingers as he tried to think of the word, "like a mute."
"Love you man, but he's right." Quil spoke. Embry snapped his head to glare at his best friend. In return Quil sheepishly shrugged and sipped his water.
Embry then shifted towards you again, "Do you think any other wolf packs are around that I can join?"
You laughed at his deadpanned tone and lightly slapped his bicep, "You love them and you know it, bub."
"Yeah, bub." Rachel teased, a beautiful smile gracing her lips. Paul smirked with a profound proud feeling bubbling in his chest as he listened to his imprint.
Sam and Emily's dance ended and the dance floor was opened up. Embry took this chance to escape the ragging from his friends to share a slow dance with you instead. His hands rested on the curve of your back while yours intertwined around his neck. His face bend down to be close to yours.
"So I was thinking about our tattoos..." Embry started.
You cocked a curious eyebrow, "Oh? And what conclusion did you arrive at?"
"Let's get them tomorrow. Quil knows a guy who does some wicked cool ones and I just know he will make them exactly how we want. And why wait? Why did we not do it a year a or two ago?" He rambled, twirling you around and bringing you back into his arms.
"No clue why we waited. But.. I am so down for tomorrow. Sooner the better."
He hummed happily, "Great. Tomorrow it is."
Harry Style's Adore You came on and you grinned, "You may be an ass at times Embry Call, but I adore you."
"Thank you baby, but hey." You looked into his loving brown eyes and waited for him to go on, "I'd walk through fire for you."
Song lyrics or not, Embry Call would legit do anything for you, "Just let me adore you." You responded.
He leant down to peck your lips, "That's the only thing I'd ever do."

Note
Hey, in rc wave patrol, i spent all diamond choices with Jake, i supported him during his argument with Alek but still it shows 'poor relationship with Jake'.
At the last episode in Season 1 and I didn't get his scenes 😒
Welcome to Jake's path! One of the hardest to get, it's very tricky 😫
A few months ago I went on a crusade to get this pendant from him at the end of the season, and I get it! After a lot of tries! 🙌🏾
You can try to follow what I did in this post and there's also the walktrough/wiki that also has a guide on how to do it.
Good luck! 🤗

“Natural” - Chapter 6 - Embry Call x Reader
Tumblr media
New Introductions
I woke to the sun shining through my windows. I look at my phone to check the time.
9:00. I rub the sleepiness out of my eyes. I sit up in bed and recall the memories from last night. I look to my left, noticing the absence of Embry’s body from where it once was. My stomach sank a bit looking at the empty pillow.
I get up and walk over to my desk, hoping there would be another note from Embry. Looking down, I see that there is.
Good morning bean,
I had to go on patrol but by the time you wake up I should be off. Call me when you wake up. I love you. I’d like for you to come over today.
Love,
Em
I smile down at the note, placing it with the previous one, hoping to keep a collection of them all.
I walk down the stairs, grabbing some breakfast as I send Embry a text asking when to come over.
I go upstairs to get dressed and ready for the day when Embry texted me back.
“Come at 11, my mom can’t wait to see you :)”
I smile, send a quick response before tidying up the living room from last night’s game fiasco.
I figure it was best to bring something to Embry’s house, but it was too late to really make anything. Something from the grocery store would have to do, I guess.
I hop in my car and drive over to the store. I look around and decide to grab a fruit salad and a small cake. I check out at the register and head over to Embry’s.
I pull up in front of his house, texting him to let him know I was here.
As I unbuckle my seatbelt, I see his front door open and an excited Embry jogging over to my car.
I smile at his goofy grin as he opens my door so I can get out of my car.
“Hey there, bean.” He presses a kiss to my forehead, pulling me into his arms.
“Hey, Em. You’re in a good mood.” I look up at his beaming face.
“My mom is just really happy to see you, like super excited about it. This is the least amount of tension between us in a while.” He shrugs his shoulders.
“I’m excited to see her, too. I’m glad things are calm with you guys right now.” I lean up and kiss his cheek.
He gently grabs my hand, grabbing the stuff I brought with me in his other hand, and leads me into his house where I am welcomed by a warm Tiffany Call.
“(Y/N)! I missed you so much.” She cooed, pulling me into a heartwarming hug.
“Hi Mrs. Call, I missed you, too.” I smile into the hug.
“(Y/N), please call me Tiffany. You know that.” She laughs.
Embry and I sit down with her at the kitchen table.
“So are you happy to be back in Forks?” Tiffany smiles at me.
“I’m so happy.” I grin back.
“I’m so happy you’re back, Embry’s been so much happier since you’ve been back… Almost back to the old Embry.” She gives me a smile, this one hinting at some deeper sadness.
I gave her an understanding smile, glancing over at Embry’s awkward face.
“Yeah, I think all the guys are pretty thrilled to hang out again.”
“Yeah, I’m sure.” She says meekly.
“So, (Y/N) brought fruit salad. Maybe we should eat some?” Embry offers.
“Yeah.” Her spirits lift up.
“So, how have things been with you? How’s the souvenir shop?” I smile at her.
“It’s good, it’s quiet. It’s just crazy how many bear attacks there have been lately, so a lot of people have been coming out less. Overall, I still enjoy the peace and quiet, I love First Beach.” Her warm eyes looking into mine.
“It’s beautiful there, I can see why you love it.”
I ignore the mention of bear attacks, unsure of how much I had to avoid for Embry’s sake.
“Yeah, (Y/N) was pretty bummed to hear about the bear attacks, she loves hiking.” Embry remarks.
“I know, I remember. You guys used to do it all the time.” She smiles, thinking about our younger years.
“I wish I could still do it, maybe more in the winter.” I shrug with a soft smile.
“That would work. I can’t believe how old you guys are now.”
“It is nuts, huh?” Embry’s voice trails off.
“So, I hear you guys are finally together?” She smiles, reaching out to grab my hand across the table.
“Yeah.” I blush, smiling like an absolute dork.
I glance over at Embry’s blushing face, watching the corners of his soft lips curling into a beautiful smile.
“I’m so glad, I always knew you guys would be together.” She smiles, taking a piece of pineapple.
I eat a piece of honeydew, trying to contain my giggle from escaping my lips.
“Me too.” Embry smiled, causing my blush to only deepen.
We sat around, chatting for another hour or so before she had to go to her shift at the store.
“It was great to see you.” I smile, hugging her goodbye.
“Of course, you’re always welcome, honey.” She pulls me in tighter, before giving Embry a kiss on his head as a goodbye.
I smile and wave as she gets into her car and leaves, feeling Embry’s arm snake around my waist.
“It was so nice to see her again.” I look up at him smiling.
“It was, it was nice to see her happy instead of upset. She really loves you.”
“I love her, too. I do. I’m happy you guys had a calm moment between you two.” I kiss his cheek.
Embry pulls me back into his house, pulling me into yet another tight hug.
“Bean?”
“Yeah?”
“Can we maybe, cuddle in my bed?” He looks down at me with those big, brown eyes.
My heart fluttered in my chest every time his eyes melted into mine.
“Of course, Em. Lead the way.” His hand held mine, walking us into his room.
I look around, admiring how neat it was and how I imagined that it would be a bit more cluttered, especially since he was almost never home to clean it.
“Did you clean your room because I was coming over today?” I smirk at him.
“What?” A blush appears on his cheeks, causing me to giggle.
“That’s cute.” I walk over and sit on his bed.
“I think you’re pretty cute, actually.” He plops down next to me, pulling me into his lap.
“Oh, that so?” I raise an eyebrow at him.
“Very much so.” He presses a kiss to my nose.
It quickly became very apparent to the both of us that the way we were sitting was a bit more suggestive than we originally intended. I had my arms around his neck, straddling his lap. His arms holding my ribs.
After a moment of silence, a deep blush appeared upon his cheeks, mine mirroring his.
I leaned in, pressing a kiss to his soft lips. Surprisingly, he deepened it, allowing me to make out with him. His hands traveled a bit lower, holding my waist, and then eventually my hips.
I moved into him, bringing myself closer. I began to feel his… “excitement” growing.
After about a minute, Embry brought his hands back up to my waist, pulling away from the kiss.
“Sorry.” He chuckled.
“It’s okay. I understand.” I blush, laughing softly.
“I just, I’m trying really hard to take it slow. You just make it very difficult.” He licks his lips.
“I think it’s you who makes it difficult for me.” I tease, smiling at his sweet eyes.
He picks me up by my waist and places me next to him once more. He lays down on the bed, patting the spot next to him.
I lay down next to him, bringing myself closer to his chest, inhaling his scent.
“It’s nice to have you here, in my arms. I like feeling you so close to me.” He kisses the top of my head.
“It feels like home.” I smile into his chest.
He grabs his phone out of his pocket and begins to shuffle our shared playlist, causing me to smile further like an idiot.
All of a sudden, my thoughts circled back to last night.
“How was patrol? Did you get it?” I ask, looking up into his eyes.
He let out a frustrated sigh as he looked down at my face.
“No, she got away. Then Paul and Emmett got into it.” He pursed his lips together.
“Emmett?” I ask.
“Emmett Cullen. He came onto our land trying to catch the leech.”
“Was everyone okay?” I ask, a bit worried.
“Yeah, of course. Nothing bad. But we missed the redhead.”
“I’m sorry.” I give him a sad smile.
“We just don’t get why she keeps coming around, we have Bella protected at all times between the Cullens and us.”
“She’s after Bella?” I ask, more worried.
“Yeah. The shit that Edward gets her thrown into. Then Jake gets involved, which involves us.” He rolls his eyes.
“Damn. I’m sorry, Embry.” I look into those deep brown eyes again.
“It’s alright. We’ll be okay. I have another thing to fight for now. Just some more motivation to get rid of her quicker.” He kisses my forehead.
I blush at his words, realizing how real they truly are.
“What time is her graduation party tomorrow?” I ask, trying to lighten the subject.
“We should get there at like 7:30.” He smiles, appreciating the lighter mood.
“Do you have patrol tonight?” I ask.
“Yeah, I do. I’m gonna hang out with you the rest of the day, first of course.” He kisses my forehead, making me smile.
“Em?”
“Yeah?” He pulls back to look me in the eyes once again.
“Could you maybe, show me more like Paul said? You guys say you’re really strong and fast. I just… I wanna see. I need to know you’ll be okay.” I blush.
“Oh bean. I can show you. Maybe you can meet everyone in that form, just to get acquainted with it. We can start with Jake and Quil today if you’d like? And whoever else is hanging around at Sam’s.”
“Yeah, I’d like that. I wanna know that you guys are safe.”
“I understand. We can head over there. Just after I get to hold my girl a little bit longer.” He smirks, pulling me close again.
I couldn’t stop the heat from rushing to my cheeks when Embry called me his girl. I couldn’t stop the butterflies from fluttering throughout my stomach. I couldn’t stop the chills from running up my spine.
I felt his hands stroking through my hair for a few minutes, causing me to fall asleep.
I woke up not long after, looking around the room to remember where I was. I looked up at Embry’s sleeping face, and it brought a smile upon my own.
Damn, how could I get so lucky?
I took my phone out, snapping a picture of Embry, as he looked just so sweet.
“Whatcha doing there, babe?” He chuckles, waking up.
I guess my movement woke him up.
“You just look so cute.”
“Thank you, I still think you’re cuter. What time is it?” He asks, rubbing his eyes.
“A little after five.” I put my phone back in my pocket after checking the time.
“We should go to Sam’s. We’ll see who’s there to show you some stuff, then I’ll patrol from there.” He smiles, kissing my forehead before beginning to sit up.
“Okay.” I follow suit, grabbing my keys off his dresser.
We head over to my car, getting in and going on our merry way.
Upon our arrival to Sam’s house, Embry lets out a “whoop” to announce his arrival.
We walk in, only to be greeted with an excited Emily and some of the guys sitting at her kitchen table. I look around to see Paul, Quil, and Jared.
“Hey, (Y/N). Finally, another girl.” She smiles, letting out an exhale of relief.
“Hi Emily, it’s great to see you.” I smile back at her, returning the hug she approached me for.
“So boys, (Y/N) wants to see a little bit of us doing our thing, thanks to Paul.” He directs his gaze at Paul.
“Well, I think it’d be fun.” Paul grins.
“I guess so. You don’t believe we’re as cool as we say or something?” Quil teases.
“You caught me.” I smirk in his direction.
“Maybe Quil and Paul could wrestle for you. If it won’t scare you.” Jared teases.
“I imagine that might be a bit frightening. But I wanna know how it works, all of it. I wanna see what I’ve been hearing about.” I look down at my feet.
“Good idea, Jared. Instead, you and Paul can wrestle. Embry and I will stand there looking pretty, that way (Y/N) doesn’t piss her pants. She’s a scaredy-cat, you know.” He laughs.
“Oh I am so not.” I retaliate.
“Can you walk around your house in the dark yet?” Quil raises his eyebrows at me. “Shut up.” I hiss, laughing.
The boys all smile before heading outside, Emily following us.
“Don’t be scared, nobody is gonna hurt you. Okay?” Embry looks me in the eyes.
I nod and he presses a kiss to my cheek before he and the rest of the guys go behind the brush to strip down.
“I assume you’re used to all this?” I ask, turning to Emily.
“Oh yeah. It was nuts at first, but you get used to it. When they get into scuffles I used to get so scared. Now, I just wait for them to come ask me for food after.” She giggles.
I then heard shuffling in the bushes, and some snarls coming from behind them. They made their way out to the clearing.
I look around, trying to figure out who is who. I notice Embry immediately.
He walks over and nuzzles his head into my shoulder, causing me to smile.
“The dark silver one is Paul, Jared is the light brown and grey one with some grey on his face, and Quil is the one who looks like chocolate.” She smiles.
Just then, they ran past me. I felt the air whoosh around me, almost knocking me over.
I smiled, amazed at how fast they were.
“Paul and Jared might play around, wrestle a bit to show you.” She warns.
I nod, looking them in the eye, and then back at Embry and Quil as they walk over to Emily and I’s side. Quil standing to the left of Emily and Embry almost shielding me from any potential damage.
And that’s when Jared and Paul look at me and nod, before returning the same gesture to each other.
I heard a puff before seeing Paul fly at Jared. I heard the growls and snarls, felt the ground move from their enormous bodies.
I have to admit, my heart raced hearing it, let alone watching it. Embry must’ve noticed as he moved his head closer to my body, trying to comfort me.
I look at him, feeling safety wash over me. I nod my head at him and suddenly Paul and Jared stopped. He must’ve told them in their mental link to stop.
All four boys went back behind the trees again to shift back.
I look at Emily with wide eyes.
“Wow.” I say, in disbelief at just how huge they were. How fast, how strong.
“I know.” She smiles.
They all run back, Embry’s hands finding my waist faster than I could blink.
“So, you impressed yet?” Paul laughs.
“Yeah, I’ll say so.” I look at him, smirking.
“Bet it was more than you thought.” Quil nudges my shoulder.
“Yeah, I don’t know what I thought. Embry only showed me his wolf form, didn’t show me any of the extra stuff.” I chuckle.
“Well, I didn’t wanna overwhelm you.” He kisses the top of my head.
“You look like you handled it well.” Jared claps me on the back.
“Yeah, it was pretty cool.” I smile.
“Jesus, you’re so good with weird.” Embry shakes his head in disbelief.
“Well in my defense, you, Jake, and Quil have been my best friends since childhood. I had to be good with weird from the start.” I poke his side.
“Yeah, yeah.” Embry laughs into my ear.
“Okay, let’s get you boys something to eat before you go on patrol.” Emily ushers us inside.
“Can’t argue with that.” Quil laughs, running past me into the house.
Embry and I follow them all inside, his arm never leaving my waist.
“(Y/N) would you like anything to eat before they inhale it all?” Emily offers me, stirring the pot of pasta.
“Sure, just a little bit. Thank you.” I smile at her.
We all ate, hanging out and talking before Sam came through the door.
“Hello there, babe.” He says as he walks into Emily’s arms, leaving kisses all over her face.
Following Sam was a tired looking Jacob, Seth, and Leah. They all came in and began eating.
“Okay guys, get on out there it’s your turn.” Sam directs.
Almost immediately Embry, Quil, Jared, and Paul get up from the table. “I’ll see you tonight or tomorrow, okay? Leave your window open.” Embry says to me, kissing me on the forehead goodbye.
“Okay.” I smile at him.
They all rushed out of the house and disappeared into the treeline.
“Hey, Leah.” I smile.
“Hey. How’s it going?” She asks, taking a break from eating.
“Pretty good. What’re you up to tonight?” I ask.
“Not much. Got something in mind?” She turns to look at me.
“I just wanted to see if you’d wanna watch movies at my house.” I smile.
“Sure. Sounds good.”
I turn to Emily and offer to help her clean up dinner.
“You don’t have to.” She smiles, trying to make me sit down.
“No, I want to. You do this all the time, I should help you.” I get up anyway and walk over to the sink.
About an hour later, Leah comes back to my house with me.
We talk about the Sam and Emily thing a bit more, I try to comfort her as best as possible.
“It’s nothing that can be fixed, unless I imprint. God I would even take that just to make myself happy.” She sighs.
“Your person will come, and they’ll blow Sam out of the water.” I give her a soft smile.
“Thank you. It feels nice to talk to a girl for once.” She chuckles.
And that was it. Leah wasn’t one for too much talking, so we turned to the movies after that.
After two movies, she decides to head out and I go into my room, bidding my father a goodnight on the way.
I walk over to my window and leave it open as Embry requested before walking to my bed and laying down.
I send Jacob a meme I found on twitter about cars before dropping my phone on the nightstand next to my bed.
Before I knew it, I was passed out.
In the middle of my deep slumber, I heard someone outside my window. I initially panicked, only to realize that it was probably Embry. The fear of someone being outside my window at three in the morning subsided at the thought of him.
I walk over to the window, seeing his beautiful face looking back up at me. I smile down at him.
He quickly jumps into the tree by my window, and then into my window.
“Jeez Em, I didn’t realize you mastered parkour.” I laugh.
“Just for you, bean.” He laughs, hugging me hello.
I yawn, almost limp in Embry’s warm embrace.
“Let’s get you into bed.” He kisses the top of my head before picking me up and walking us back to my bed.
I nuzzle myself further into his warm chest.
“How was patrol?” I ask.
“Uneventful. That’s a good thing, though.” He chuckles, his voice raspy and riddled with sleepiness.
“That is a good thing.” I yawn again.
“I love you, bean.”
“I love you too, Em.”
I press a light kiss to his chest, to only be pulled closer. I smile before I once again enter a peaceful slumber.

Table Talk
Mostly just stretching my writing muscles for movie Sonic and Tom. They have a discussion about what Sonic was doing before the events of the movie and how long he’s been on his own. This is a couple of days to a week after the end of the movie.

“Geez, have you never had pizza before?” Tom leaned on the table as Sonic inhaled his fifth slice. How could such a little hedgehog eat so much? Well, he did have to have a lot of energy to burn. Heck, now that he thought about it, it’s a wonder he didn’t eat more. Better add some extra to the food budget.
“Not warm and fresh like this. The pizza place on fourth threw the perfectly good extras away a lot, but I never had any luck trying to warm it up over a fire. The microwave only worked sometimes and it just made it all gooey, the sauce soaking into the bread.” Sonic gave an appreciative hum.
“What’d you normally eat? Berries?” Maddie usually didn’t treat hedgehogs, they were an ‘exotic pet’ and besides Sonic’s anatomy was still kind of a mystery to all of them.
“Oh, I could breeze through the grocery store and get whatever I wanted, I wasn’t starving or anything.” Sonic waved a hand. “I had strawberries sometimes though, those were good.”
“Explains why Jake ran low on everything twice a week.” Tom brushed a hand through his hair.
“Heh, yeah, I’d say sorry but a hedgehog’s gotta eat.” Sonic wiped at his face with his arm, smearing pizza sauce all over blue fur, and Tom tossed him a napkin.
“What’d you eat back home?”
“Back-”
“I mean, the place you’re from. Did you have parents there? You mentioned a claw something, is that an orphanage?”
“Longclaw was…” Sonic chewed on his lower lip. “She was like my mom, she protected me and helped keep me safe.”
“Did she send you here alone?”
Sonic nodded. “A bunch of red-furred guys attacked when they saw my speed. I’m pretty sure they were echidnas like in the fairy tales she used to tell me. She had the biggest wings, and they were so good for hugging, honestly I don’t know how the bones bent that way-”
“She wasn’t a hedgehog? I was picturing- you, but like my height. Maybe pink.”
Sonic raised an eyebrow. “Why would she be pink? She was brown, with a pretty gold necklace. She was your height though, maybe even taller.”
“Okay, you being three feet tall is because you’re a kid, good to know. So I can look forward to you being terrifying when you’re my height.”
Sonic zipped around the table, nudging Tom with his elbow. “Come on, I’ll be the same lovable little scamp you decided to invite into your home.”
“I don’t think you breaking in and me tranqing you is exactly ‘inviting’,” Tom muttered, and Sonic vanished, reappearing with one of his comics and waving it around.
“Moving me into the attic counts, does it not?”
“That part was inviting,” Tom ruffled Sonic’s fur, brushing over the edge of his ears to hear a tiny purr. (Sonic adamantly refused to admit that he did it, but Maddie thought it was adorable. Secretly, so did Tom.) “So, how long ago was this? A couple of years? You seemed to know Green Hills pretty well even before we officially met.” He took a sip of his coffee.
Sonic tried to count on his fingers. “I was… hmm. I made a mark of my height on the cave but it ended up smudged when I was rearranging stuff. I think I was four?”
The coffee sputtered over the table. “You were four? Do alien hedgehog years translate funny or-”
“No, I’m going by human years, I don’t remember Mobian years after being here so long.”
Tom slumped back in the year. “And now you’re-”
“Fourteen! I think! I’ll be honest, I don’t remember my birthday either because Mobius and Earth use totally different calendars. Unless you’ve got one of those hanging around? That’d be nice.”
“I- no, I don’t have a Mo-whatever calendar just hanging around. You were living on your own for ten years? That’s like two thirds of your life!”
Sonic’s ear twitched as his head tilted. “Yeah? I thought you knew that.”
“I knew you’d been watching us for a few years, and I knew you were a kid, but- Sonic, around here, humans usually don’t leave their parent’s house to strike out on their own until they’re at least sixteen, and most of the time it’s eighteen or older. Human kids wouldn’t survive living on their own at four.”
“I’m not a human kid.” Sonic blinked.
“Yeah, yeah, I know, but- geez. That explains a lot.” Sure, he’d figured Sonic talking so much was a product of living on his own, but really, it was a wonder that the kid wasn’t a complete basket case.
“Longclaw just wanted to protect me. If she’d followed, they might have been able to track her.”
“She could have sent someone after you, couldn’t she? How did she even end up raising you, did she know your parents?”
“My… parents?”
“Did she ever tell you?”
Sonic’s chin thunked on the table. “No, she said there was a lotta stuff that she was going to tell me when I got older. Now I’m older, and I got nada. One day when I’m older older, maybe I can go back and ask her. If...”
“If?” Tom prodded, and Sonic shook his head.
“She- she sent me to Earth but when the ring was closing, the mean guys were all chasing both of us, and she got shot with an arrow.”
Tom couldn’t hold back a wince. “Well, if she managed to raise you for four years, she’d have to have nerves of steel. Maybe she’s okay, especially if they just wanted you. They might have just asked her for information.”
“Yeah, maybe…” Sonic turned, cheek fur smushing against the wood. “So, what’a’bout you? Who raised you?”
“My dad was a police officer, just like I am, and my mom helped out on the farm.”
“Oh, oh, the cow sweater lady and the guy who’s got a big, booming titan voice?”
“Yeah, that’s them. I’ll have to introduce you sometime.”
Sonic grinned. “I’ll be on my best behavior!”
Tom raised an eyebrow. “Really?”
“Really, really really! Absolute best, promise!” He made an ‘x’ over the middle of his chest.
“You know, usually that goes on the right side, over the heart.” Tom showed him, and Sonic rolled his eyes.
“Well, duh, my heart’s in the middle, that’s why it’s in the middle.”
“Really?”
“Nah, I’m just messing with ya. I have no idea where all my internal organs are, but I made you think, didn’t I?”
“Yeah, you did.” Tom stood up, using a napkin to dab at the coffee on the table before it soaked in and stained. “Want to go on patrol with me? I’ll let you ride on the roof if you keep a grip on the light and promise not to scare the pigeons again.”
“I can’t promise that.”
“At least try, Sonic.”
“I’ll try, I’ll try.” In the time it took Tom to tug on his vest, Sonic had grabbed the ‘Green Hills Police Department’ shirt that hung past his tail and hopped on top of the new squad car. “Woo!”
As Tom pulled open the door, he couldn’t help a smile.
