Challenge #04293-K275: A Child Could Understand...
[Solid water] Compound composed of hydrogen and oxygen, essential to support carbon-based life. Keeping it in the solid state makes it easy to carry.
"...isn't it ice?"
"no, no, no. Ice is ice, this is water, just in the solid state."
"...isn't that the definition of Ice?" -- Anon Guest
Galthax took a deep breath, twining hir tentacles in a thoughtful manner. "Ice is frozen water. This is solid water. There is a difference."
Human Iz scrunched their face up, attempting to comprehend and evidently burning out some brain cells in the process. "Solid water. That's not ice."
"Correct," said Galthax. "Water compressed and pressurised to the point where it stops being liquid at above zero temperature. It's all in the magic of gravy drives."
Iz was still frowning. "Hahn?" A very Human noise of non-understanding.

What is the difference between inland and oceanic waterways?
Water transport is a two-part adventure! We have inland waterways, like rivers, canals, and lakes, navigating within the embrace of land. Also, there are the oceans vast expanses of open water connecting continents and carrying us across the globe. What are the key differences?
Location: Inland waterways are rivers and canals winding through landscapes, while oceanic waterways are the wide-open expanses of oceans and seas. Imagine exploring a national park versus sailing across the Pacific!
Trade: Most inland waterways facilitate domestic trade, carrying goods within a country or a land mass. Oceanic waterways almost always enable international trade, connecting different countries and continents. Think crude oil from the middle east arriving in Europe via oceans versus coal or grain moving down a river.
Vessel size: Due to shallower waters and narrower passages, inland waterways use smaller vessels (barges). Oceans enable giant cargo ships and tankers, navigating deep waters and open routes.
Challenges: Each comes with its own set of challenges. Inland waterways face seasonal variations in water levels and may require lock systems to climb hills. Oceans face unpredictable weather patterns and vast distances.
Regulations: Regulations vary depending on location and purpose. Inland waterways usually fall under national regulations, while international agreements and maritime law govern oceanic waterways.
Ultimately, both inland and oceanic waterways play particular roles in trade. While they differ in location, trade scope, and challenges, they share the power to connect people and economies across large distances.

In a plant 1 m tall, more than 99.5% of the water transport pathway through the plant is within the xylem, and in tall trees the xylem represents an even higher percentage of the pathway.
