Water Attractions in Las Vegas
As an experienced travel blogger I love a good challenge. Finding water in the desert? Sure, why not! So during our recent trip to the âSin Cityâ I decided to uncover the best water attractions in Las Vegas. It was imperative for me to do so because we were travelling in June and the temperatures were going to be around 100 F in Las Vegas. If you are travelling to the city in summer it isâŠ

When we're all gone at last then there'll be nobody here but death and his days will be numbered too. He'll be out in the road there with nothing to do and nobody to do it to. He'll say: where did everybody go? And that's how it will be. Whatâs wrong with that?

Down the Road by James Marvin Phelps Via Flickr: Down the Road Shipwreck Lake Mead NRA Clark County, Nevada December 2022 Friday afternoon hike with fellow photographer Tony Donofrio in Government Wash in Lake Mead National Recreation Area. My fourth hike out to this area and the first since late summer. Some good news is that the lake water level is a few feet higher than in August.

Excerpt from this story from the Las Vegas Sun:
A population spurt for the Devils Hole pupfish, a critically endangered fish at Death Valley National Park, is giving scientists cause for optimism, the National Park Service said.
Scientists from the park service, the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service counted 191 pupfish at Devils Hole over the course of their spring study April 5 and 6, officials said. That marks a 25-year high, they said.
âIncreasing numbers allow the managing agencies to consider research that may not have been possible in the past, when even slight perturbations of habitat or fish had to be completely avoided,â said Michael Schwemm, senior fish biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. âWeâre excited about the future directions with respect to managing this species.â
Many pairs of the fish were found courting and spawning in their 92-degree habitat, officials said.
The species fully resides in Devils Hole, a water-filled cavern near Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Nye County. Officials say Devils Hole is the smallest habitat of any vertebrate species on the planet.
The fish are found in the upper 80 feet of the cave and depend on an 11-by-16-foot sunlit shallow shelf at the cavernâs entrance for food and spawning, officials said.
Historically, the pupfishâs population ranges between 100 to 200 in winter and 300 to 500 in late summer â an all-time low of 35 fish was recorded in 2013.
The tiny fish, averaging less than 1 inch in length, lived in relative isolation for between 10,000 and 20,000 years after periods of flooding and dryness created the cavern they call home, the park service said.
Flooding last summer from Hurricane Hilary was a benefit to the fishâs ecosystem, officials said, because it added nutrients that washed off the surrounding land surface in a fine layer of clay and silt.

silent carnival | ln4, op81
i will just leave this here without any particular comment. im glad that the las vegas is over and im even more glad that lando is okay. anyway, please enjoy it as always!
summary: lando crashed and went to the hospital, y/n and oscar coming to the rescue
warnings: nothing i think
pairing: lando norris x fem!mclarendriver x oscar piastri
The prevailing silence in the car was almost deafening, even the radio didn't dare to hum songs. The only audible sound was the quiet engine working at full throttle, ready to reach the destination as quickly as possible.
Y/N and Oscar sat next to each other in the back seat, gazing at the night landscapes illuminated by fiercely glowing neon lights. Neither of them was in the mood for conversation. The atmosphere was truly worse than gloomy.
Las Vegas was way much more than intense. The city pulsated with nightlife, decidedly more than any other place where Formula 1 had the pleasure to visit. That's why the silence that surrounded the McLaren drivers was quite shocking. However, this silence was entirely justified. It emerged when the orange car with number four on it submerged in sparks and concluded its disastrous ride in the barriers. Right then, all of Las Vegas froze; right then, the entire McLaren garage held its breath.
When the taxi parked at the hospital driveway, the pair quickly stepped outside and headed towards the entrance. After talking to the woman in the reception point and facing temporary difficulties finding the right room, they humbly sat on chairs in front of it. They had to wait until the tests were completed and the doctors left the room, allowing them to come in.
Seeing Y/N nervous, Oscar wordlessly embraced her, providing comfort. She closed her eyes and leaned on his shoulder, knowing well that she wouldn't calm down until she saw Lando with her own eyes.
After some time, when two doctors and a nurse left, the couple entered the room. Lando was genuinely surprised to see his friends, but he smiled seeing them.
The girl quickly approached the bed, ready to hug him, but she hesitated and lowered her outstretched arms, not wanting to cause him unnecessary pain. However, Lando pulled himself up a bit, reaching out to her and allowing the embrace. Oscar exchanged a reassuring look with his friend, smiling at him encouragingly. He sat on the bed and also hugged Lando, soothingly patting his back.
"You gave us quite a scare," Y/N murmured, still holding him tightly.
"It looked worse than the actual outcome it brought," he replied.
After some time, she pulled away and sat beside him, scrutinizing him carefully. Fortunately, there were no signs of serious injuries, just a few bruises and bumps.
"Thank goodness you're okay," Oscar said, glancing at him. However, Lando didn't seem overly comforted.
"Maybe I'm fine, but I completely fucked the car. I'd rather something happened to me thanâ" "Don't even say that," Y/N quickly interrupted him, scolding him with her gaze.
"Our cars have been total crap for a few races now, so I think you did a favor to the factory people," Oscar remarked with a reassuring smile, lifting Lando's spirits a bit, although he still shook his head.
"Total massacre. At least you fought for our honor," Norris said, looking at the aussie.
"Fought is an understatement. Oscar was ready to throw hands," the girl laughed at his comment.
"Maybe it's for the best, considering how much of a disaster the track was. And you just crashed and hopped into the warm and comfy ambulance without giving a fuckâlots of space, delicious, perfectly chilled water, phew," Piastri joked, maintaining a serious demeanor.
Lando chuckled, nodding in agreement. "I'm glad this race is behind us," Norris admitted with a sigh, wincing as he adjusted himself on the bed. "It's just a shame about the outcome."
"It doesn't matter," Y/N said, resting her head on his shoulder. "The most important thing is that you're okay."
"Since I'm fine, you shouldn't waste time here," Lando said, looking at his friends. "This is our last night in Vegas; I'd go for a wild party if I were you."
"Oh c'mon, fuck Vegas," Oscar cut in, shaking his head.
"I can't wait to leave this place," Y/N admitted, taking out her phone "I'll order us some champagne, what do you think? We need to toast to this cursed city."
"I'm a hundred percent in," Oscar nodded.
"I hope no one will be mad at us for a little party here," Y/N said, dialing a number.
"It's an open party, the McLaren house is open to everyone," Oscar added.
And as they said, so they did. Shortly after, three bottles of champagne appeared in the hospital room and each of the trio could swear that the shared evening was better than any party.
At some point, Lando stopped thinking about the past race and the unfortunate crash. His thoughts departed from that incident; he didn't even feel the pain of his bruised body as he held a perfectly chilled bottle of champagne in his hand. He couldn't also contain his smile as his friends danced in the middle of the hospital room, singing a song in his honor. At that moment, Lando was genuinely happy and understood that to feel this way, all he needed was the company of these two, who would do anything for him.

In This Diary | S.R
Summary - The summer of â02 was supposed to be just like any summer that had come before. Spencer Reid was mostly hoping to relax before his started his new job at the Behavioural Analysis Unit in the fall. But best laid plans often go awry.
Now all these years later heâs come into possession of the diary he kept during that time and heâs forced on a trip down memory lane to a perfect Las Vegas summer in which he fell in love for the very first time. But if heâs not careful, he might allow himself to get so lost in his nostalgia he may not be able to drag himself back to the present.
A/N - this goes back and forth a lot in time, I hope it makes sense. Where thereâs a page break it goes back to the present day. Based on the song In This Diary by The Ataris. Written for @imagining-in-the-margins Summer Sunshine Challenge. Thank you again @pinkiceee-prose and @andiebeaword for reading over this đ€
Pairing - Spencer Reid / Fem! Reader
Category - angst with happy ending | strangers to friends to lovers | smut minors DNI
Warnings - post prison, pot smoking, virgin Spencer, slight sub! WC - 10.3k honestly I canât write anything short
Here in this diary I write you visions of my summer, it was the best I ever hadâŠ
The dogeared, weathered pages told their age beneath his fingertips, speaking their tales through skin. Smudged ink seeped through the yellowing paper, penned words of a different time etched to hold their memory.Â
His fingers danced across them as though reading braille, trying to feel the words the way he had when he'd written them. So much time had passed, so much had changed, this book felt like it was from a different lifetime.
If he closed his eyes he could feel himself there. He could feel the way the hot Vegas sun beat down on him, causing little beads of sweat to roll down his face, feeling it tightening his skin. He could sense the pen in his hand as he scrawled down his thoughts, committing them to these pages.Â
âWhat are you doing?âÂ
âJust writing.âÂ
âWriting what?âÂ
âMemories. I want to remember this summer.âÂ
âYou have an eidetic memory, dork.âÂ
He could feel the gravel beneath him, hear the occasional passing vehicle on the freeway whilst hanging out at truck stops just to pass the time.Â
He could see fireworks illuminating the sky in desolate parking lots, hear their crackle and bang as they exploded and then disappeared.Â
He could hear the thrum of the eighties songs through tinny speakers, even if he never really enjoyed them. He could feel the droplets of water on his frazzled skin from the splash back of a body diving into the hotel pool which was not strictly open to the public.Â
It was another life, one heâd long ago left behind but still carried pieces of it with him.Â
I guess when it comes down to it, being grown up isn't half as fun as growing upâŠ
âWhatcha got there?âÂ
A voice snapped him out of his nostalgia and he quickly closed the old book and looked up from his desk. He blinked a few times to try and bring himself back to the present, back from memory lane which heâd started to get lost down.Â
Spencer Reid was not known to be a sentimental man, in all honesty he had few good memories from his past to be wistful over. And now was not the time to start.Â
Luke had an amused smirk on his lips as he looked down at the younger man and the old, tattered journal on his desk.Â
âOh, uh, itâs nothing.â Spencer swallowed with a shake of his head.Â
âLooked like a diary.â Lukeâs smile grew, his intense dark eyes full of mirth. âI saw a date in the corner? August twenty ninth two thousand and two. You'd have beenâŠâ
âTwenty two. I was twenty two. The summer before I joined the BAU.â He sighed as he spoke, not thrilled to be sharing this part of his life with Luke.Â
It was unfounded, given that it was probably the happiest time of his life. He wasnât quite sure why he didnât want his friends to know about it.Â
There was something about keeping the memory pure, not having it sullied by outsiders. That secret summer belonged only to the two people who had lived it.Â
âI didn't peg you for a journaler.â Luke shrugged.Â
âIâm not usually. I donât really know why I kept a diary that summer.âÂ
That wasnât entirely true. Heâd kept a record of those days in case, for whatever reason, his memory failed him. If something happened to cause his brain to forget, that was one time in his life he wanted to ensure heâd never lose.Â
And since his mothers diagnosis, it was an entirely real possibility that one day he may forget. There were many moments in his life heâd like to be able to neglect, his drug addiction, Gideonâs death, prison; but the summer of â02 was not one of them.Â
In truth heâd forgotten all about the journal. It wasnât until his mothers move to DC when heâd been going through old boxes of her stuff that heâd found it.Â
âCan I read it?â Lukeâs smile turned cheeky, he already knew what the answer would be but he was just trying his luck.Â
As expected, Spencer scowled, grabbing the diary and holding it close to his chest as if he believed Luke might try to snatch it from his desk.
âAbsolutely not.â He wrapped it tightly against his body.Â
âOoh thereâs some juicy stuff in there.â Luke chuckled.
âDonât be crude.â Spencer scoffed but his cheeks started to redden, conveying the truth.Â
âOh man, Iâm right arenât I?â Lukeâs laughter grew.Â
It increased in volume enough to grant the attention from the others who had been silently working away at their desks.Â
âWhatâs going on?â JJ perked up, her blonde head of hair appearing behind her computer monitor.Â
âReidâs got a sex diary.â Luke spoke over his shoulder to the whole bullpen.
âI most certainly do not.â His cheeks burned with his embarrassment and he shrunk a little in his chair.Â
âReid? Spencer Reid?â Tara stood from her desk, eyebrow cocked in her blatant confusion. âNo way, I donât believe that.â
âGood, because it's not true.â He held the journal closer to his chest.Â
âHeâs hiding something in there, thereâs a reason he wonât let me read it.â Luke scoffed.Â
âDid it occur to you that some people donât enjoy sharing their entire life story?â Spencer grumbled.
By now JJ and Matt were on their feet too, and the three other agents closed in on his desk. He was thankful at least Emily, Rossi and Garcia were in their respective offices. He shrunk lower in his chair, wishing he were able to simply vanish into thin air.Â
âOh heâs definitely hiding something.â Tara folded her arms across her chest, eyebrow still raised in a combination of suspicion and delight.
âSo what if I am? Iâm entitled to my secrets.â Spencer complained.Â
âThe last time you kept a secret from us you ended up in prison.â JJâs shoulders slumped, wincing a little at her own words.Â
âThis isnâtâŠitâs not like that.â He shook his head. âItâs just memories okay? Memories of a great summer I had before I joined the bureau and Iâd like to keep them to myself.âÂ
âOh itâs totally a sex diary.â Matt chuckled heartily.Â
âFor the love ofâŠâ Spencer trailed off, pushing himself to his feet and tucking the journal under his arm. âI really donât want to talk about this. Can you please just respect my privacy for once? I know how hard that is for you guys.âÂ
âOuch,â JJ pouted. âSorry for caring.âÂ
âJennifer, we both know this has nothing to do with you caring about me.â He clucked, pushing past the gaggle of his friends and marching out of the bullpen.Â
He felt them watching him, muttering under their breaths as he walked away. He hurried down the corridor out of view until he pushed his way into the menâs bathroom.Â
He slumped into a stall and sat down on the closed lid of the toilet. Placing the old leather bound diary in his lap he ran his fingers over the cover.Â
He didnât know why heâd let himself get so worked up over a stupid journal. Except it wasnât stupid, far from it. It was his collection of memories from a life he wished he could go back and relive.Â
The twenty two year old whoâd put pen to these pages was naive and innocent, his whole life ahead of him. The boy heâd been back then didnât know of the horrors he was yet to face. It was a much simpler time and he wanted to be able to cling to that without his friends being involved.Â
For fourteen years his team had been privy to every moment of his life, good and bad. Was it so wrong that Spencer wanted to just keep this one thing to himself?Â
He huffed out a staggered breath, wishing not for the first time that just cared a little less. It made sense when he was younger, heâd been green when he joined the FBI and the team had treated him with kid gloves, probably rightfully so. But he was a grown man now, older and more worldly, he didnât need them treating him like a child.
He cracked the spine of the journal, opening it up to the first page and continued caressing the worn page with his fingers. The diary began at the end, retrospectively writing of his adventures during the last week of that summer when he realised he didnât want those memories to escape him.Â
August 29th 2002
Here in this diary I write you visions of my summer, it was the best I ever hadâŠthat unspoken feeling of knowing that right now is all that matters.
Here in this diary he had meticulously journalled everything that transpired during his last few months in his hometown and how those moments had changed his life forever. He cautiously turned the page, careful not to tear the aged paper.Â
He felt the heat rising, the sun high in the sky. He became aware of the somewhat blistering concrete beneath him, the occasional sound of passing cars. He could make out the scent of sunblock in the air, chlorine from nearby backyard swimming pools.Â
Brushing his digits across the page he was transported away from Virginia, away from the bathroom on the sixth floor Quantico office. As he closed his eyes, the Las Vegas summer stretched out before him.
June 2nd 2002
The temperature edged over a hundred two days ago and the AC hasnât worked in three years. Really need to sell the house, I must look into that when I get to DC. Mom hasnât lived here since I sent her off to Bennington and this was the last summer Iâd be needing it.Â
It was cooler to sit outside, despite the humidity, it was preferable to the stuffy house with no AC. I planned to go to the library, basking in its glorious air conditioning unit but after stepping outside and immediately feeling the sweat gathering all over my skin, I decided against walking for five miles in this heat.Â
And boy would I be glad for that decision.Â
Iâm not sure what it was that tore my attention away from the Great Gatsby that morning. I had this feeling, this inexplicable feeling running through my veins and forcing the hairs on the back of my neck to stand to attention.Â
And when I looked up, there she was. It was as though she was floating, drifting so effortlessly across the street I was sure her feet didnât touch the ground. She regarded me curiously, most people did. She was unblinking, a slow and cautious smile building on her lips.Â
I simply stared back in awe at this angelic creature heading my way, never letting her gaze falter from me. I was stunned into silence as she approached up the front path, head tilting to the side as she analysed me.Â
She invited herself closer, up the three concrete stairs before dropping to the top step right next to me, opening her mouth and inquisitively speakingâŠ
âWhat are you reading?â You smiled at him in what you hoped to be an amicable manner, but nonetheless his back straightened as if you posed a threat to him.Â
âUhâŠâ he swallowed thickly, his Adams apple bobbing. âMe?âÂ
âYes you.â You laughed. âWho else would I be talking to?âÂ
The peculiar man looked around like he expected someone else to be sitting on his stoop with the two of you. He scratched at the back of his neck nervously.Â
âI donâtâŠI donât know.â He rolled his chapped lip between his teeth.Â
âIâm Y/N.â You shook your head, still laughing a little at his obvious awkwardness.Â
âSp-Spencer.â He stuttered.Â
âNice to meet you, Spencer.â You nodded curtly. âIâm house sitting for my aunt for the summer, whatâs good to do around here?âÂ
Her smile could have lit up the whole night sky, her laugh the sweetest sound Iâd ever been lucky enough to hear. She was summer, she would still be summer in the dead of winter. She was magnetic, effervescent.Â
She was the first drop of rain after a long drought, she was those first few seconds in the morning when you wake up where you momentarily forget all of life's problems. She wasâŠ
âReid, you in here? We got a case.â Lukeâs voice broke him out of his revere, eyes flickering off of the page up to the closed stall door.Â
âIâll be right there.â He croaked, closing the diary again.Â
He closed his eyes and inhaled until his lungs were full. He counted to five in his head and listened for the door to close before he slowly exhaled. He repeated the action three more times before he trusted himself to stand.Â
He swore he could still smell your perfume as he forced his way out of the bathroom and back to reality.Â
***
June 14th 2002
All the nights we stayed up talking, listening to 80's songs. It still brings a smile to my face.Â
Her aunt's house, which I came to learn was just up the street and had a new, state of the art AC unit fitted. The next two weeks we spent nearly everyday there listening to her favourite songs on the old stereo, most of which Iâd never heard before.Â
The likes of Van Halen, The Cure, AC/DC and The Pixies played on repeat while she quizzed me on my life and I on hers. She was from San Francisco and her aunt was on vacation so sheâd offered to house sit for the summer. She was a year younger than me at twenty one and fresh out of college with no idea where she was heading next.
I kind of envied her, she was a free spirit, she could go anywhere she wanted, do anything she wanted. And for whatever reason, she chose to spend her summer with me.
You hummed along to the music, Where is My Mind by the Pixies encompassing the room. You laid on your back on the couch, your feet in Spencerâs lap and the AC sending its cool waves towards you.
You cradled the blunt between your fingertips, every now and again raising it to your lips and sucking on it. The room was filling with smoke, the smell of it alone enough to make Spencer a little light headed.Â
âYou sure you donât want any of this?â You spoke with a lungful smoke.Â
âIâm good, really.â Spencer smiled his tight-lipped smile youâd grown accustomed to the last few weeks.Â
âIt would be out of your system before you start your big government job.â You giggled.Â
âItâs not just that.â He shook his head. âSmoking marijuana at our age while our brains are still technically developing can affect IQ. A study showed that those who started smoking pot before twenty five lost six to eight IQ points by middle age.âÂ
You sat up on your elbows, your eyebrows deeply furrowed at him.
âYou think itâs really going to affect your life so much if you lose a couple of IQ points, Doc?â Your lip quipped up into a smile.Â
âI donât want to risk it.â Spencer noted your slightly bloodshot eyes.Â
You took another long drag, the sound of the paper crackling as it burnt filled his ears. You breathed it in before slowly exhaling the smoke out into the room.Â
âHmm,â you hummed in content, dropping the half smoked blunt into a little glass dish on the coffee table. âNow I feel light as a feather.âÂ
âYou could get that feeling in many other ways. The main psychoactive ingredient, THC, is simply stimulating the part of the brain that responds to pleasure. Itâs releasing dopamine which is whatâs giving you that euphoric feeling.â He told you almost sternly.
You cocked an eyebrow at him, sitting up further so you could get a good look at him.Â
âPleasure, huh?â You clicked your tongue.Â
âYeah,â he swallowed. âItâs the same way you would respond to food orâŠâ
âOr?â Your lip twitched.
âOther pleasurable activities.â He swallowed again, his cheeks turning slightly pink.Â
You swung your legs off of his lap and shuffled closer to him on the couch. You saw him swallow yet again, noticed his chest heave with a deep breath.Â
The closer you got to him the more you could feel the nerves rolling off of him in waves and you dared move so you were straddling his lap.Â
Your knees pressing either side of his thighs, you wrapped your arms around his neck and a hagged breath left between his pouty lips. His cheeks were a deep crimson colour now and from this position in his lap you knew exactly why.Â
âSpence?â You whispered as he looked at you in embarrassment.Â
It would be painfully obvious from where you were sitting that he was aroused and he felt so incredibly vulnerable in that moment.Â
âYes, Y/N?â He croaked.Â
âWhat other pleasurable activities are you talking about?âÂ
âI thinkâŠI think you know.âÂ
âHmm letâs pretend I donât.â You smiled coyly. âAfter all, Iâve probably knocked off a few IQ points right? What other pleasurable activities?âÂ
You rolled your hips a little in his lap and Spencer mewled at the sensation. This was the closest heâd ever come to having someone other than himself touch him and he felt dizzy. He felt so dizzy that when he spoke, he wasnât sure heâd even meant to let the word slip off his tongue.Â
âS-sex.â He breathed, the smile on your face growing in approval.Â
âWell now, that does sound more appealing than smoking.â You edged your face closer to him, rolling your hips into his lap once more.Â
He smelt your perfume and the pot on your breath. He felt like his skin was on fire and he couldnât form a coherent thought.Â
A moment before you lips touched his, the sound of a phone ring cut through the room and you sprung apart suddenly.Â
Spencer remained sitting on the couch while you ambled over to the landline. He watched you go, half wondering if heâd imagined the whole thing.Â
But the erection still visible through his slacks begged to differ.Â

He returned the journal to his satchel as the jet came into land near Dallas. He knew word of his mysterious diary had reached Emily and Rossi and the whole team had been watching him read on the flight.Â
He tried to cast his memories to the back of his mind and focus on the case, people were being murdered and that had to take precedence over his nostalgic thoughts.Â
Emily sent him and Rossi to the morgue and Spencer tried to pretend he was focused on a case file while Rossi drove them. He could see the older man looking at him in his peripheral vision.Â
Thankfully Rossi did not ask him about the journal even though Spencer knew he wanted to.Â
It was in the back of his mind all day and after he retired to his hotel room and showered, he found himself thumbing through to the next page.Â
July 1st 2002
Breaking into hotel swimming pools, and wreaking havoc on our world. Does it make me completely dumb that I would follow her to the ends of the earth?Â
I knew it was a bad idea, but I just canât say no to her. She said she had something fun planned and so like an idiot I came along.Â
I didnât say anything when we jumped the fence. It was around eleven pm and all the lights around the pool were out, the stars and the moon reflecting on the still water.Â
I still didnât say anything when she started stripping down to her underwear, mostly because it rendered me speechless. The sight of her in nothing but that skimpy black lace lingerie caused me to forget my own name and Iâm sure I just stared at her slack jaw.Â
Itâs been a few weeks since I think she tried to kiss me and she hasnât said anything about it. Iâm starting to think I misread the situation entirely.Â
At least I was, until she stripped off her clothes by the side of the pool and curled her finger at me, beckoning me closer.
âYou fancy a dip, Spencer?â Your voice was breathy and he followed your motion to come closer.Â
âUh, wonât we get in trouble?â He padded forward all the same.Â
âOnly if we get caught.â You giggled, reaching for him as soon as he was close enough.Â
You gripped him by the lapels of his shirt to tug him forward before your fingers glided towards the top button. He stared at you without a word while you effortlessly popped the buttons one by one.Â
Once youâd gotten the last button undone your hands moved to his shoulders and you helped push the fabric down his arms until it dropped to the floor.Â
He was painfully skinny but it didnât stop him from subconsciously sucking in his small stomach. Your eyes grazed up and down his torso, taking in every inch of skin.
He felt hot beneath your gaze despite the fact the temperature plummeted at night. He felt self conscious, not worthy of your eyes on him. But when you met his gaze again you were smiling.Â
When your hands landed on the button of his slacks his breath hitched and his legs wobbled slightly. You giggled again, a sound that had become Spencerâs favourite melody over the past month.Â
You made quick work of the button and zipper before hooking your fingers in the side of his pants and shimming them down his legs.Â
Spencer stayed still and silent while you undressed him until his pants pooled at his feet and he kicked off his converse so he could remove them completely.Â
His hands darted in front of him, trying to hide the exceedingly noticeable tenting in his tight boxers. He could tell you knew what he was trying to hide by the playful smile now on your lips.Â
It was an all too regular occurrence around you. You only had to glance at him a certain way and he would be standing at full attention. It wasnât his fault, you were unfairly beautiful.Â
Suddenly you turned your back on him, floating as you so often did towards the pool. Before Spencerâs brain could catch up you were diving into the still water, causing ripples to roll out across the pool.Â
A few droplets splashed up onto his face and chest. While you were submerged he moved closer to the edge and slipped into the cool water before you could have a chance to scrutinise his body again.Â
When you emerged you wiped your hair off your face and found Spencer in the pool, leaning back against the wall. The water wasnât too deep but he crouched down so it was covering him up to his chest.Â
You waded towards him, eyes sparkling from the moonlight. He pushed himself back against the side of the pool, his nerves written all over his face.Â
âEverything okay, Doc?â You asked as you neared him.Â
âFine, just fine.â He nodded stiffly.Â
âYou sure about that?â You cocked an eyebrow at him, moving dangerously closer.Â
âHmm mmm.â He tried to insist but you werenât buying it.Â
Your eyes were dark by the time you were right in front of him, almost black. The smile on your face was sinful and it made Spencerâs knees weak.Â
No one had ever looked at him the way you were looking at him at that moment. He may be naive but he knew exactly what that look meant. And as if to prove that point, your right hand disappeared under the water and seconds later it was palming him through his underwear.
A pathetic whimper left his lips at the contact even though there was a layer of wet fabric between him and your hand.Â
Your smile grew at his reaction, your other hand now moving to grip his shoulder. Spencerâs arms remained at his sides, his breathing already heightened.Â
âSpencer?â You whispered. âHas anyone ever touched you like this before?â
He rolled his lip between his teeth and shook his head dispondantly.
âNo,â he confessed. âI, uh, Iâve never evenâŠkissed anyone before.âÂ
He felt the heat spreading to his cheeks and he was painfully aware of your hand still palming him. Your smile turned a little sad, pitying almost.Â
âYou want to change that?â Your voice was quiet, barely a whisper.Â
âY-yes.â He nodded. âYes p-please.âÂ
âSo polite,â you stepped even closer. âSuch a good boy.âÂ
When your lips finally touched his, he whined against them, feeling an explosion of emotions in one simple action. Your tongue easily made its way into his mouth and your hand moved from his shoulder to the back of his head.Â
You kissed him fiercely, exploring his mouth with hunger. Spencer didnât do much of anything, simply stood limply while you kissed the air from his lungs.Â
He continued to whine against your lips when your hand started moving around his shaft. His hips started to rock against you of their own accord and he so desperately wished there wasnât a piece of fabric in his way.Â
As though you could read his mind your hand shifted and your fingers trailed across his stomach just about the waistband of his boxers. He moaned deeply and you pulled back from the kiss, a questioning expression on your features.
âCan I?â You panted as you spoke, nodding your head downwards.Â
All Spencer could do was nod dumbly in response.Â
You smiled before leaning in to kiss him again, somehow more ferociously than before. When your hand slid inside the sodden material of his boxers and wrapped around his length an animalistic moan erupted from his lips, swallowed down in your own mouth.Â
Your small hand couldnât quite reach all the way around his thick shaft as you started moving up and down on it. His hips started bucking harder than before, telling you he enjoyed it.Â
His brain was mush, he couldnât form a single coherent thought except how phenomenal your hand felt. His lack of awareness allowed him a little more confidence and he finally moved his arms, his hands finding your face and holding you while he kissed you.Â
You smiled against his lips, the water started to lap around your bodies with your movements. You kept up a steady pace as you stroked him while removing one of his hands from your face.Â
He let you guide his hand over the planes of your body until it was situated between your legs. He inhaled sharply, having to tear his lips away from yours.Â
You were both panting as you looked at each other, his breathing staggered due to the way you were touching him. His hand was still between your legs, ghosting outside of your panties.
âYouâŠyouâre sure?â He breathed erratically.Â
âVery.â You nodded, increasing your speed and eliciting another feral moan from Spencer.Â
âIâŠIâve never done this before.âÂ
âYou strike me as a quick learner.â You smirked.Â
âF-fuckâŠâ he mumbled. âIâŠI am.âÂ
âMake me feel good, Spence. Be a good boy for me.âÂ
Your words of praise made him hiss, bucking hard into your hand. It was enough encouragement for him to inch your panties aside before his fingers slid beneath the fabric.Â
You were surprised to say the least when one of his digits quickly found your clit and started rubbing it deftly, as though heâd done this hundreds of times before.Â
Your eyes widened and your mouth fell open, your grip on him faltering for a second at the sensation.Â
âFuckâŠâ you whined, trying to focus on your strokes. âYouâŠyou sure youâve never done that before?âÂ
âP-positive.â He nodded, his knees buckling as he felt precome leaking from his head. âSâgood?âÂ
âSo good, baby. So good.â You crashed your lips together again as he increased his speed, rubbing your sensitive bud like heâd been doing it his whole life.Â
You squeezed the base of his shaft before matching his speed with your strokes. You were moaning into each other's waiting mouths, water frantically lapping around your bodies.Â
You whined when his finger disappeared from your clit but soon two of his digits were swiping through your folds. When you felt them pressed against your entrance, begging for access, you nibbled on his bottom lip and squeezed his cock again telling him to continue.Â
You moaned in unison as his two long, slender fingers entered you. Spencer felt as though he might pass out at the sensation as his fingers pushed all the way inside of you.Â
He felt your shift and move around him, your walls fluttering against his digits. That combined with the way you were frenziedly pumping him caused his stomach to tighten with the telltale signs of his impending orgasm.Â
âOh my gosh you feel so incredible.â He whined, plunging his fingers deeper inside you.Â
You felt him twitching in your hand, still lazily rocking into your touch.Â
âAre you close, baby?â Your thighs squeezed around his hand.Â
âY-yes.â He admitted, fingers coniniting to move in and out of you, desperate to give you as much pleasure as you were bestowing upon him.Â
âCome for me, Spence. Come for me.âÂ
He whimpered again, the pressure building in the pit of his stomach and he couldnât hold back any longer even if he wanted to.Â
With a staggered moan his hips jut forward as he came in the pool, while you stroked him through his first orgasm not at his own hand.Â
***
In a hotel room just outside of Dallas, Spencer narrowly managed to move the journal out of the way just in time for him to spill his load over his own hand.Â
He fell back against the lumpy pillows, breathing heavily and his hand still slowly moving up and down his spent shaft.Â
He glanced at the diary through hazy eyes and shook his head, removing his hand from his cock and wiping his seed on the bed sheet.
He swore he could feel your hand there even after all these years, feel the water splashing around his naked torso.Â
He could feel you around his fingers, the way you clenched tighter as you came not so long after he did.Â
He could still feel the weight of your body as you fell against him in the pool, head nuzzling into the crook of his neck as you panted heavily into his wet skin.Â
Things had been so much simpler then, he sometimes yearned for those days. A part of him wished he hadnât found the journal in the first place then maybe he wouldnât have found himself sucked down this particular rabbit hole.Â
Despite the memories swarming his brain he fell asleep without even cleaning himself off, one hand on his rapidly beating heart and the other clutching the battered diary.Â

July 4th 2002
Lighting fireworks in parking lots, illuminates the blackest nights. Cherry cokes under this moonlit summer sky.Â
I suggested going to an organised event for the Fourth of July celebrations but she insisted that we have our own.Â
She brought a ton of fireworks, it was a wonder she didnât blow a hand off that night, fumbling to light them whilst dragging on a blunt.
But I simply watched her from the back of her auntâs old VW Camper, sipping on my coke in absolute awe of her every move.Â
Since our pool escapades the other day, every time I look at her I get chills. Every time I catch sight of her I think of the way she felt as she touched me, as I touched herâŠ
She hasnât even so much as kissed me since and Iâm partially wondering if it was all a vivid dream. At least I was until tonight.Â
You sauntered back over towards the open back doors of your camper where Spencer sat cross legged on a blanket.Â
Seconds later an array of fireworks erupted in the sky over the abandoned parking lot, the sounds and the colours a feast for the senses.Â
But you werenât watching them. You were watching him.Â
You crawled into the back of the van, right into his lap, straddling him as you took a long pull on the joint. You inhaled the smoke and tossed the butt over your shoulder before placing your hands on his shoulders.Â
When you kissed him the smoke filtered out of your mouth and into his but he didnât care. His arms wrapped around your waist while your tongues explored each other's mouths.Â
You guided him backwards so he was laying down, his cock already fully erect and pressing against you. You laid on top of him and continued to kiss him fiercely.Â
His hands found purchase on your back, gently holding you close. You were grinding against him causing him to moan into your mouth and squirm beneath you.Â
He knew where this would inevitably lead if he let it. He wanted to, he didnât exactly relish the idea of being a virgin forever and you were the first woman to ever show him this kind of attention.
But he didnât want to just be another guy to you. He didnât want to just be a quick lay youâd forget all about. And inevitably thatâs what would happen.
It wasnât something the two of you talked about often but at the end of summer you were going back to San Francisco and he was going to DC. If he slept with you thatâs all it would ever be. And he didnât want that.Â
You continued to kiss him and grind against him but his intrusive thoughts got the better of him and all the blood that had previously been flowing south rerouted itself. He didnât even realise until you sat back and looked at him curiously.
âIs everything okay?â You breathed heavily, lips slightly swollen from the kiss.
âYeah, why wouldnât it be?â He frowned up at you.Â
âUhâŠâ Your eyes flicked down towards his crotch at the same time he realised he was completely flaccid.Â
His cheeks burnt and he cursed his overactive brain.Â
âIâm sorry.â He shook his head, trying to sit back up.Â
You slid off of his lap and sat next to him while he drew his legs close to his body.Â
âItâs okay if you donât want to do this. Iâm sorry if I come on a little strong.â You shrugged meekly.Â
âItâs not that I donât want to. I justâŠI donât want to lose my virginity to someone Iâm never going to see again once summer is over.â He cringed at his own words, at how needy and sad he sounded.Â
Your expression turned pitying and it made him feel even more stupid.Â
âI get it.â You smiled softly. âDonât be embarrassed.â
âItâs kinda hard not to be.â He buried his head into his knees and hugged his arms around his shins. âIâm sure most guys, normal guys, would jump at the chance to be with a woman as beautiful as you. No oneâs ever looked at me the way you do, I was always so much younger than my peers so it made sense. I wasnât waiting or anything, not deliberately. But now the opportunity has presented itself, I donât think Iâm the casual sex kind of guy. God that sounds so lame.âÂ
You were smiling to yourself at how adorable he was. With his face against his knees his words were muffled but you caught the gist of them.Â
You shuffled closer to him and placed your hands on his cheeks, guiding his face back up so he would look at you.Â
âI think thatâs kinda noble.â You whispered.
âI think the word youâre looking for is sad.â He huffed.Â
âNo, itâs not.â You let go of his face. âI understand, Spencer. I wish Iâd waited, I wish Iâd waited for someone like you.âÂ
He let you wrap your arms around him and he leant against your chest while you held him. Off in the distance fireworks continued to illuminate the sky, the far off sound of their explosions a strange comfort.Â
***
Spencer rubbed his eyes with his palms somewhat aggressively after almost an hour of staring at the map of their unsubs hunting ground.Â
Despite falling asleep quickly last night his peace had been short lived and heâd woken less than two hours later and couldnât get back to sleep.Â
He didnât know why he was letting the diary affect him in such a way, shouldnât it have the opposite result? Those entries were from the best days of his life, but maybe it served as a reminder that he could never go back to that time.
He wasnât that naive kid anymore, heâd suffered one too many traumas in his life to ever be that kid again. Back then his most difficult decision was whether or not to have sex with a beautiful woman. He longed to have such trivial problems.Â
Heâd felt so stupid after the night of the fourth of July he had avoided you for two weeks after. Heâd wasted what precious time the two of you had together feeling idiotic over his decision to turn you down and hidden out in the public library just to circumvent any further interaction with you.Â
He turned to face the room, realising he was alone in the small meeting room. Last he checked JJ and Luke were at the table going over files, when had they left?Â
He frowned to himself, reaching for his satchel and pulling the journal out, flipping to the next page.Â
July 19th 2002
Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up, these are the best days of our lives. The only thing that matters is just following your heart, and eventually you'll finally get it right.
He closed his eyes with a shake of his head. Wasnât that the painful truth? Heâd written that particular entry with a smile on his face like the cat that got the cream. That date had been the best of his whole whirlwind summer.Â
After stewing in his stupidity for two weeks he had shown up at your aunt's house unexpected and uninvited. Youâd barely let him inside before heâd kissed you. And it wasnât long at all before he was leading you back to the couch.Â
âSpence, whatâs going on?â You panted, looking up at him from where you laid on the couch.Â
âDo you really need me to spell it out for you?â He was fumbling a little with the buttons of his shirt, hands noticeably shaking.Â
âBut I thoughtâŠyou said you didnât want this? And then you donât talk to me for weeks and now you-â
âI was overthinking, I do that a lot. But I donât want to overthink this.â He finished unbuttoning the shirt and dropped it to the floor before climbing on top of you and kissing you again.
âYouâre sure?â You mumbled against his lips.
âExtremely.â He replied.
He snapped the journal closed before he could get carried away. He didnât exactly go into graphic detail of what transpired on your auntâs couch that day but it was certainly not safe for work material.Â
He didnât need to read the words anyway, heâd memorised everything about that day. He learnt by heart the way your skin felt against his, the way the two of you melted together as though your bodies somehow became one. Heâd retained every little detail of how you felt, every tiny movement of your body as heâd made love to you.Â
He couldnât forget even if he wanted to.Â
Just as he was slotting the diary back into his satchel, trying not to get caught up in the blissful memory, the door opened and JJ strolled in carrying two take out coffee cups. She smiled at him, handing him one of the drinks. He smiled at her in thanks.
Her eyes flitted to his open bag and the diary nestled inside. When she looked back at him she had an amused expression on her face.
âSo, sex diary, huh?â She chuckled lightly.
âIt is nothing of the sort.â He rolled his eyes.
âAlvez is convinced otherwise.âÂ
âWell Alvez doesnât know what heâs talking about.â
âSummer of oh-two right?â She narrowed her eyes on him, the way she did when she was trying to profile him.
âYeah.â He took a sip of coffee.Â
âWasnât that-â
âYes.â He cut her off.Â
The summer I met the love of my life.Â
Heâd told JJ snippets from that summer, she was the only one who heâd ever told. She knew as much as heâd met a wonderful woman who heâd lost his virginity to and over the course of a summer had fallen in love with her. As far as he knew sheâd never told anyone.Â
âSo why has it gotten you so tetchy? I would have thought youâd like to relive those days?â She slid into one of the chairs sipping her own coffee but her scrutinising gaze stayed on him.
He let out a haggard sigh, taking a seat next to her and using his free hand to swipe his hair back off of his face.
âDo you ever feel like the best days of your life have passed you by?â He found himself asking.Â
JJâs expression softened, a melancholy smile adorned on her lips. She sat forward slightly in the chair.
âIs that really what you think?â She placed a gentle hand on his knee and she felt him tense up at her touch.
âMaybe, I donât know.â He wiggled his nose, a gesture he did when he was uncomfortable. âI guess I just miss being that carefree.â
âSpencer Reid, carefree? Canât picture it.â JJ laughed around her cup.
âFine, maybe not carefree.â He chuckled too. âBut notâŠthis. Iâm worried Iâm never going to bounce back from prison. I went to therapy, I took the medication, I should be over it by now.â
âSpence, you have PTSS, that doesnât just go away. You know as well as I do, probably better, that the symptoms can be managed, that it can remain dormant for months, even years. But the trauma you suffered is what evoked your PTSS and that doesnât leave you. Youâll probably always be dealing with it in one way or another.â JJ squeezed his knee before Spencer moved out of her touch.Â
He knew what she was saying was right and thatâs what made it harder to hear. PTSS was something he would always live with, something that could always be triggered in the future. Heâd created coping mechanisms, dealt with his trauma but it didnât make it go away, it would never just vanish into thin air. He could never undo the damage that had already been done.Â
âI thought reading that journal would help me feel like my old self but itâs having the opposite effect. Because Iâm never going to be that kid again.â He shook his head sadly.Â
âAnd why would you want to be?â JJ scoffed.
âExcuse me?â He frowned at her.
âSpence, I knew you at twenty two. You were painfully shy and awkward. It took you years to be able to look me in the eye. Youâve changed so much in the years Iâve known you and thatâs not a bad thing. Youâre better at your job, youâre a better man now than you were at twenty two, you have to see that?â She hoped her words were getting through, hoped he would listen to her before he fell into a self pity spiral he may never get out of.Â
He exhaled shakily, taking another sip of coffee while he tried to come up with a response. But he didnât have to, as soon the door was opening again and Luke entered the room. And Spencer quickly jumped up and returned to his map, effectively shutting down any further conversation on the subject.Â

August 6th 2002
Hanging out at truck stops, just to pass the time. Watching the slew of cars fly by on the freeway, eating bags of chips while she tossed stones out into the rolling desert beyond us.Â
âRemind me again why weâre here?â He asked you as you flung another stone off into the distance.Â
You turned to face him, both sitting in the gravel, leaning up against the side of the truck stop building.Â
âWhy not?â You quipped.Â
âThere are countless other more interesting things in Las Vegas than sitting at a truck stop. Youâre only here a few more weeks and I thought you wanted to see the city?âÂ
âI have seen the city.âÂ
âYouâve seen abandoned parking lots, old motel swimming pools and the inside of your auntâs house.â He shook his head.Â
âHmm,â you mused. âI have been very acquainted with her ceiling these past few weeks.â You winked at him and his cheeks immediately burned at the insinuation.Â
It wasnât a lie. The last couple of weeks the two of you had barely left your auntâs house in lieu of making the most of each other's company whilst wearing as few clothes as possible.Â
Spencer wasnât strictly complaining about that, sex with you was one of the wonders of the world and heâd happily do it for the rest of his life. But he was painfully aware of what little time you had left together.Â
âItâs a pretty good ceiling.â He swallowed thickly, having had his own share of experiences in which he was staring at that ceiling too.Â
You giggled and it was literally music to his ears. You tossed another stone before suddenly getting to your feet.Â
Spencer followed suit, brushing the dirt off the back of his slacks. You had a mischievous glint in your eyes as you took hold of his hand and started leading him around the side of the building.Â
âWhere are we going?â He asked, not that it really mattered. Heâd long ago realised he would follow you anywhere.Â
âYouâll see.â You giggled again, giving his hand a squeeze.Â
He followed you inside a grimy and slightly dilapidated bathroom, eyebrows furrowed deeply in confusion.Â
When you let go of his hand and locked the door, his stomach coiled into knots and his cock immediately started to come to life.Â
âY/N?â He breathed. âWhat are weâŠwhy are weâŠ?âÂ
You laughed and took him by the hand again, leading him into a stall. The door was coming off of its hinges and the tiled floor was dirty and cracked. You didnât seem to notice.Â
You pushed him up against one of the walls in the stall and started kissing him with ferocity. He kissed you back, trying to ignore the stench of a bathroom that was long overdue for a good clean.Â
He didnât really have much time to dwell on such trivial things however as soon as you were dropping to your knees on the filthy floor and looking up at him through your lashes.Â
The simple action had him standing at full attention, his stomach tightly coiled. Heâd dreamed of what it would be like to have you go down on him but never imagined it would happen.Â
He was too polite to ask and too innocent to assume. But it hadnât stopped him from imagining it countless times.Â
You smiled at him, toying with the button of his slacks and chewing seductively on your lip.Â
âIs this what you want, Doc?â You breathed.Â
âYou have no idea.â He nodded somewhat frantically.Â
âBe a good boy and say it for me. I canât read your mind.â You teased.Â
The idea of dirty talking in any way would have normally freaked him out but it had become clear to both of you early on that when you called him a good boy heâd do just about anything.Â
âP-please,â he whined, bucking his hips. âPlease s-suck my cock.âÂ
You hissed at his words, teeth sinking deeply into your own lip.Â
âOh youâre so good, Spencer. Such a good boy for me.â You popped the button as a reward.Â
âYour good boy.â He agreed with a whimper.Â
âMy best boy.â You smirked, tugging his pants and boxers down to his knees in one swift move.Â
He gasped as the stale air hit his erect cock and pushed himself back against the stall wall. You ran your tongue along your bottom lip as your index finger ghosted up and down the throbbing vein that ran the length of his shaft.Â
His knees were already quaking, desperate to feel your lips wrapped around him. Thankfully he didnât have to wait much longer as soon you bowed your head, parted your lips and took his head into your mouth.Â
His eyes rolled back in his head in an instant and the sounds coming from his lips could only be described as feral as you slowly took him all the way in your mouth.Â
He yelped when he hit the back of your throat, partly through pleasure and partly through fear he might hurt you. He knew he wasnât exactly small, not quite so naive as to be blind to the fact he was sporting an above average sized package.Â
But to your credit you didnât even so much as gag and when you looked up at him through your lashes again, nose buried in his pubic hair, he swore you were smiling.Â
***
At the back of the jet Spencer tried to rearrange his satchel in his lap to disguise his growing erection from anyone who might pass him by. The mere thought of that day youâd given him his very first blow job was enough to make him strain at the front of his slacks.Â
The case in Dallas was wrapped up in just two days despite Spencerâs lack of concentration and he was so pleased to be heading home.Â
He closed his eyes, resting his head back against the headrest and trying not to think about that day but failed miserably.Â
Getting to come while he had sex with you was incredible, of course, but being inhibited by condoms always left him feeling a little incomplete. But the feeling of coming down your throat, having every last drop of his arousal swallowed down while you smiled at him was out of this world.Â
He whimpered a little under his breath, his cock throbbing in the confines of his pants. He grit his teeth together hard and opened his eyes in an attempt to focus on something else.Â
August 29th 2002
Here in this diary I write you visions of my summer, it was the best I ever hadâŠthat unspoken feeling of knowing that right now is all that mattersâŠ
âWhat are you doing?â You sing-songed, dropping yourself next to him on the couch.Â
âJust writing.â He hurried to close the journal before you caught sight of anything.
âWriting what?â Your eyes were sparkling playfully at him.Â
âMemories. I want to remember this summer.â He shrugged, hugging the book to his chest.Â
âYou have an eidetic memory, dork.âÂ
Three days later, on September first, youâd been leaving Vegas, waving to him from the rear window of the bus taking you to the airport.Â
***
September 1st 2002
I donât know why but some reason I genuinely thought this summer might never end. Time is just a construct right? Maybe this summer could last forever.Â
More logically, or maybe less depending on how you look at it, I think I actually thought sheâd stay, come with me to DC. I asked her to, although I donât think she realised I was being serious.Â
âWhat are you doing?âÂ
âJust writing.âÂ
âWriting what?âÂ
âMemories. I want to remember this summer.âÂ
âYou have an eidetic memory, dork.âÂ
âI know, Iâm just scared for this to end. IâŠY/N I have fallen in love with you. Donât go back to California, come to DC with me instead.â
Sheâd simply laughed as though Iâd told the world's funniest joke, patted me on the shoulder and said, âoh wouldnât that just be the dream, Doc?âÂ
That was three days ago and she hasnât brought it up since and neither have I. And today I helped her with her bags to the bus station so she could leave me forever.Â
Get on the bus, it's time to go.Â
âI am gonna miss you, you know, Doc?â You toyed with his lapel, the sweetest of smiles on your face. âI had a way better summer than I planned for.â
âM-me too.â He croaked, stupidly feeling hot tears brewing behind his eyes.Â
âDonât be sad, youâre leaving for Quantico next week. Your dream job, remember? You're going to be saving lives and kicking ass. Youâll forget all about me.â You smiled.Â
âDoubtful.â He huffed.Â
The engine of the bus roared to life behind the two of you and your smile turned a little sad. You breathed out before leaning in close and pressing a chaste kiss to his lips.Â
âYou have to forget me, Doc. Summers over.â You whispered against his lips and before he could reply you were turning away and sauntering to the doors of the bus.Â
His heart constricted in his chest, tears encompassing his vision. Nothing about this was fair even though heâd know all along youâd be leaving. It didnât make it an easier pill to swallow.Â
He rubbed his eyes heavily before your face appeared at the back window. You were still smiling but if he didnât know any better he swore your own eyes were filled with tears.Â
The sound of the doors closing caused his chest to tighten further. This was it. It was over. You were leaving.Â
As the bus rumbled into gear and started forward, you waved to him and his tears broke free. He raised his hand and waved back while they rolled down his cheeks.Â
He stood on the sidewalk waving as the bus started its journey, watching as the only woman he would ever love was cruelly taken away from him.Â

He rolled his neck as he ascended the stairs to his apartment after a long metro ride home from Quantico. He freed his keys from his satchel, fingertips brushing over the worn leather cover of the journal as he did so.Â
Heâd never be that innocent twenty two year old again. But was that really such a bad thing? Maybe JJ was right, he was better at his job, he was a better man now than he had been back then. Getting caught up in this wave of nostalgia was foolish.
Ultimately Spencer knew he wouldnât go back to that age for all the money in the world. That summer might have been the best of his life, but it wasnât as though his life had been terrible after that. Things sometimes had a way of working themselves out, the universe had its own plan for everyone.Â
And despite the trauma thrown his way, the universe hadnât been entirely merciless towards him.Â
He found himself smiling for the first time in days as he slotted the key in his apartment door. Heâd been thrown a lot of curveballs in his life, dealt a hand that no one person should have to tackle alone.Â
But then he never really had been alone, had he?Â
He turned the key and pushed open the door, the light from the lamp next to the couch illuminating the room in the homely glow he loved so much.Â
The smell of freshly brewed coffee met his nose, wrapping him in its warmth. He smiled brighter, kicking off his shoes and hanging up his satchel. He pulled out the journal and cradled it under his arm. Then he turned towards the couch and the body sat upon it, his smile grew tenfold.Â
âWelcome home, Doc.âÂ
Get on the bus, it's time to go.Â
He continued to wave dumbly as the bus got further away, tears streaking down his cheeks and he feared they may never end.Â
He even kept waving when the bus came to an abrupt stop, even carrying on when the doors swung open and you appeared on the sidewalk.Â
He finally lowered his hand when you started running towards him, tears rolling from your eyes and a frantic expression on your features.Â
âYou meant it didnât you? When you asked me to come to DC with you, you meant it. You meant it and I knew you did but I laughed because I was scared.â You spat out, speaking so fast all your words rolled into one.Â
âI did mean it.â He croaked, scared to reach for you in case you vanished in a puff of smoke. âAnd I also meant it when I told you I love you.âÂ
âI, uhâŠâ your voice cracked and you scuffed your toe on the concrete. âWould it be utterly crazy if I did come with you to DC?â
âProbably.â He nodded. âRealistically we barely know each other. We might come to find when we learn more about one another that we donât actually like what we find. Take me, Iâm neurotic, Iâm a neat freak, a germaphobe. I own too many books, my hairâs too long, my tie is perpetually crooked, Iâm-â
âSpencer?â You chuckled through your tears, cutting him off of his rant.
âI ramble when Iâm nervous.â He sighed. âBut I do know that I love you. And Iâm almost positive that I will love every little thing about you, most likely for the rest of my life. So it is probably crazy of you to come to DC with me, but I hope you do it anyway.â
âSpence?â You smiled, wiping at your tears. âI love you too, and Iâm positive I will love every little thing about you too. For the rest of my life.âÂ
Spencer let out a shaky breath of relief and wiped his own tears moments before you fell into his arms and kissed him more fiercely than you ever had before. And you both knew no matter how crazy it was, it also made absolutely perfect sense.Â
âGood to be home, angel.â He kissed you, wrapping his free arm around your waist to hold you close.Â
He always did that, despite how many years it had been. Regardless of the fact youâd now been together since you were twenty one years old and he was twenty two, in spite of the fact youâd married him, he always felt the need to keep you as close as humanly possible as though afraid he may lose you like he almost had all those years ago.
âMissed you.â You mumbled against his lips.Â
âMissed you more.â He replied.
When he broke away from you, your eyes landed on the diary and you laughed, tugging it free of his grip.Â
âJJ called me this morning and said youâd been pining over this thing.â You ran your fingers over the worn cover.Â
âBest summer of my life.â He smiled as the two of you sank to the couch.Â
Spencer wrapped his arm around your shoulder and you nuzzled against him, still toying with the old diary.Â
âMine too. But we canât live in the past forever. And I donât know about you but Iâm pretty happy right here in the present. And Iâm certain our future is going to look pretty damn good.â You took his hand in your free one and brought it to your lips so you could place delicate kisses on his knuckles.Â
Heâd been so sure as he watched that bus pull away that he would never see you again, that he had lost a piece of his heart forever. The summer of â02 he had met the love of his life and he had counted his lucky stars every day that he was also the love of yours.Â
Youâd stayed by his side through every hurdle. Youâd helped him get clean after his addiction which could have torn the two of you apart, held his hand through every single NA meeting and soothed him through withdrawals.
Youâd gone to every doctor's appointment with him while he was suffering from debilitating headaches, dried his tears when he thought Emily had died and held his hand at the funeral. Youâd felt his anger towards JJ and Hotch when Emily came back from the dead.Â
Youâd done the same when Gideon died, when Morgan left the team and then Hotch. Youâd visited him every day in prison and told him on every visit that no matter how long it took you would be waiting for him when he got out.Â
âUntil death do us part, Doc. I didnât take our vows lightly.âÂ
He held you closer, trying to communicate to you just how much your love and support had meant to him over the years.Â
âHave I ever thanked you for getting off that bus?â He sighed in content.Â
âOnly every single day since.â You giggled, still after all these years his absolute favourite sound in the world.Â
He laughed with you, holding you impossibly closer and breathing in the scent of your perfume he still loved so much.Â
One summer had turned his whole life upside down. One glorious summer changed everything. That summer and the memories the two of you had created would forever live on, even without that old journal. But you were right, he couldnât live in the past forever, nor would he want to. His present was as close to perfect as it could possibly be.Â
And even in the coldest depths of winter, you would always be the summer of Spencer Reidâs heart.Â
Here in this diary I write you visions of my summer, it was the best I ever had.

The Pyramids Motel, c. 1952. The motel was built between the Flamingo and the Sands, the first development in Las Vegas by a 25-year-old Irwin Molasky.
âOn the Strip right next to the Flamingo, I built a little motel of 19 units called The Pyramids. I actually built some concrete block pyramids in front to designate the name. It was right on the highway. My parents were my partners. We were on well water. We started a district called Sanitation District Number One and we put sewer lines out towards the Strip.
âWe opened The Pyramids on December 15, 1952. Our next-door neighbor north of us was the Sands Hotel, which opened the same date that we opened.
âIf you were looking to rent rooms on a daily basis you had to be visible. I built whatever we could afford. I put up a big sign.
âI built it and my parents operated it. I immediate got my contractorâs license. I still have it registered. Itâs number 3174. Today I think theyâre in the hundreds of thousands.
- Irwin Molasky oral history interview (OH-02154) by David G. Schwartz, 4/23/2014.
The property was sold to the developers of Holiday Casino in the early 70s. Pyramids was demolished some time between 12/72 and 6/73 and became Holiday's parking lot. The property is now part of Harrah's.

I zoned out while scrolling for a moment and thought OP said "I hear it/it's so deep in the closet" and I thought it was a Tell-Tale Heart reference until I read the word Narnia
Im so deep in the closet right now im almost in narnia
I can hear mr tumnus calling to me

Wow.
I can't leave to enjoy a few days vacation without the world falling apart?
Hybe vs. Min HeeJin. Not on anyone's bingo card this year. I have not caught up on everything but who tipped off Hybe about her dastardly plans? The timing of it all... and her little extemporaneous skit she did for a press conference was perhaps part of her plan to turn public opinion in her favor? She claims to have invented kpop or at least made it what it is today but out the other side of her mouth says she hates idol culture?
Hybe's not here to play, they will not be nice. I see no benefit to her for showing us the not so pretty side of the idol industry. Maybe that's her problem, she can't see what she's doing because she's too far into it. Thirty years in the business will make you lose your objectivity. She has no idea she is coming across as a greedy, spoiled, entitled, manipulative, narcissistic, emotional female in a male dominated industry. Basically a nut case.
The lady had a tremendous opportunity to perhaps take ownership of her company in due time, become a great example for female leadership in a country where corporate culture is steeped in chaebolism. Instead she squandered that and thinks she will come out on top. Did she miss the Hybe vs. SM Entertainment episode from last year?
Anyway.
RM's new album! RPWP!
The Monochrome pop up store is doing well!
Jin will be back after 6 Fridays!
In other news. I went to Las Vegas. This is what I saw:
The Bellagio Fountains. They're huge. The Bellagio is SWANK. I looked for Jimin in Dior and Tiffany, Hobi in the Louis Vuitton store, Namjoon in the Bottega Veneta store, but none of them were in there. There was no Calvin Klein store.
When Hobi, JK and Tae were there watching the fountains dance to Dynamite, they were standing here:
Passed by Allegiant Stadium a few times. It's huge.
Drove out to Seven Magic Mountains. I am happy to report the lowest boulders had no writing or graffiti. They were amazingly huge as you can see.
Joon's pic of the above rocks:
Went to AREA 15 and it was HUGE and amazing! It's impossible to show everything that its about, there are multiple buildings and installations and activities, gift shops, bars, etc. We went into the Omega Mart (mega art) experience which led to a maze of fantastically created chambers, each different from the last one, all pulsing with animated lights, texture walls, ceilings and floors.
And ate at Hobak Korean BBQ. We couldn't find out which tables the members of BTS sat at but I got a pic of the Butter album they all signed. There were other autographs from other famous Korean celebs but the BTS signatures were displayed in a more prominent place on the wall.
We also scoped out The Sphere. Also HUGE. The concert space is arena sized. I don't know who was playing there that night but the parking lot was filling up.
We also walked the Strip.
The Fremont Street Experience. That's an animated video screen overhead with ziplines running through the length of it. It's two blocks of casinos, restaurants and gift shops. People are also doing busking and shows at street level.
Hoover Dam, view of the dam from the highway bridge and view of the highway bridge from the dam. Spent a few minutes on the Arizona side.
Hiked in the desert. Saw cactus and wildlife. Drank a lot of water.
Drove to the Mojave Desert Preserve in California just to say we did.
We hated leaving. It was a fun trip. But damn, I have so much stuff to catch up on now. Hiatus my ass.
If Vegas is on the BTS comeback tour I promise I will be there this time.
We gambled at the airport on our way out. The slot machines were next to our gate. And in the baggage claim area. But as you can see, its not just about gambling there.
In case you didn't get it, everything in Vegas is HUUUGGE and FARRRR. Walk a lot, spend a lot of money.
Overall, Las Vegas was clean, the people were extremely friendly and welcoming of course, they might be teaching hospitality as a school subject there, I don't know.
#what happens in vegas stays in vegas#until i post all my pics here#so regretful that i didnt go to ptd in vegas#we also unknowingly drove past the millenium dance center#where bts rehearsed while in las vegas

Would you happen to have or know anyone who has solarpunk resources for in deserts? I live in Vegas so I'm not sure if some things I see will be able to help me here :)
Hi! Thanks for getting in touch. Just wanted to preface this by saying I donât live in a desert, I never have lived in a desert, and I donât know a lot about deserts (I come from one of the rainiest places in Europe lol). So I may not be the best person to ask.
That said, I have seen some cool stuff floating about. The whole liquid trees debate that circulated recently was a good example - obviously these are redundant in a temperate climate where trees can grow, but in a desert a machine that captures carbon and generates electricity using algae would be pretty useful! I have also heard of various anecdotal stories of people greening or farming deserts, though Iâm a bit more iffy about that - should we be changing the ecosystem?
Large swathes of uninhabited desert, with their constant hot sun, could be really good places for big solar parks, though, and the panels in turn could provide shade for plants and animals.
Iâd recommend reading up on the lifestyles of indigenous and traditional desert societies across Africa, Asia and the Americas, looking at what technologies they use to keep cool, supply drinking water, etc. Lots of desert plants can have edible or medicinal functions that people donât know about, so looking into them would be pretty neat - I know people have talked about vegan cactus leather and stuff though I worry that could become mass-commercialised and damage the desert.
Ultimately yeah, I think solarpunk desert narratives and movements are really cool and very under-appreciated. These places have a unique relationship to sunlight and solar power, and more of the planet is going to be desertified due to climate change, so I think they should be at the forefront of the movement. I donât know much about them at all but Iâd love to learn! If you find anything out about how we can apply solarpunk in the desert please do get back in touch and let me know, and who knows, perhaps you can start a solarpunk movement in Las Vegas!

Thinking about the social and legal construct of Wilderness (USA edition)
Motorized vehicles cannot be used in Wilderness backcountry â trail-building in Wilderness uses human muscle and livestock to carry supplies.
âUntouchedâ or âUnspoiledâ wilderness. The (false) idea that human hands have never affected parts of Nature. The notion that human influence fundamentally takes away from the Naturalness.
Contrast these Touches for a moment: the Hetch-Hetchy dam, which provides water to the 39 million-population human city of San Francisco, whose creation was fought bitterly by conservationists. The desert razed into half-empty speculative rows of suburbs around Las Vegas, sprawl in an area inhospitable to human life. Food forests and Native American agriculture that supports a higher load of animal and plant life/diversity a century after it was left unattended. Invasive species control. Wildlife rehabilitation. Farming. Ranching. Ecosystems tended and bent by human hands.
Leave No Trace
Controlled burns. Firefighting.
The Wilderness Act of 1964 states that namelessness is an aspect of wilderness. Basically this means the namelessness of things must be preserved, and you canât just go naming mountain peaks and rivers and stuff in places that are designated Wilderness.
Zion National Park has a valley which the native Americans who lived there called âMukuntuweap.â Some still do call it Mukuntuweap. âZionâ is a name Mormons gave it. It is an oasis in the desert, a place where humans performed agriculture on the river and hunted animals. Today the valley is subject to millions of human visitors from all over the world. There is no farming or hunting, though native Americans are Permitted to harvest some for personal use. The land is, in the NPS fashion, preserved in a ânaturalâ a state as possible.
In Capitol Reef National Park, another Utah oasis, there is an orchard of fruit trees fed by the water. You can camp there today. The orchard was created by Mormon settlers, and there are historical installations about it.
Iâm not against conservation, Leave No Trace, or the works that National Parks or forest service has done in the USA, but, listen. This too is a form of deliberate design. Itâs an expression of human ideas of how the Ecosystem should be. Wilderness is to an extent a concept and ideal of human imagination. We have the power and responsibility to shape our shared environment.
I think. There exists among some people a squeamishness and embarrassment about existing as humans. How dare we take up space. Look at all the destruction our indiscriminate self-centeredness has wrought on the natural world: suburbs, strip-mining, fallow fields. But these industrial-scale extractive endeavors are recent.
And we are also part of the world. To live and die is to consume and rot. We are part of the wild. We take of it and we tend it.

A surprising byproduct of wildfires: Contaminated drinking water. (Washington Post)
Over the weekend, the Park Fire grew to more than 360,000 acres, prompting evacuation orders and warnings around Chico, Calif. in Butte, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama counties. In the days ahead, Cal Fire will seek to contain the blaze to reduce harm to people, structures and the environment. However, months from now when the rains come and the fires are extinguished, a hidden threat could put communities at risk once again.
When the mayor of Las Vegas, N.M., issued a warning in 2022 to its 13,000 residents, it wasnât over a fire â they had recently lived through the stateâs largest wildfire in its history: Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak. The dire warning was that the city had 30 days of clean water left. The 2022 monsoon rains covered the Gallinas watershed, where cleared trees from the Santa Fe National Forest and ash-covered grounds made for flash-flood conditions. The storms introduced massive amounts of carbon from burned trees and plant life into the streams and reservoirs. Water treatment couldnât keep up, making their stores undrinkable.
Around 60 to 65 percent of the United Statesâ drinking water comes from forested areas. As fires burn in these areas, they increase the risk of cancer-causing and toxic substances entering water supplies. An estimated 53.3 million U.S. residents who live in areas with significant wildfire risk may face damaged drinking water infrastructure from those flames.
Megafires burn land at higher temperatures across wider areas than standard wildfires, putting watersheds across the United States at greater risk. Sheila Murphy, a research hydrologist at the U.S. Geological Survey working on the effects of wildfires on water quality, says burned areas fundamentally alter a watershedâs hydrology. As wildfires burn hotter and consume more trees and structures, water quality will continue to worsen, research suggests.
When watersheds burn, the threat starts in the forests, continues to water treatment plants, and can expand to communities and households. To meet these risks, it will take a coalition of informed community members, scientists and city officials to work toward solutions to protect clean water supplies.

@traveling-spartan @priveetru
gonna be responding to this in a separate post because i've already left two comments on the post this was in reply to and i suspect that the OP already would consider that two too many.
at any rate:
Government regulation causes monopolies more often than it combats them.
[...]
It's why big corps like Disney lobby for said regulation in the first place, it crushes all their smaller competitors for them.
for what it's worth the data doesn't seem to be backing this up. if both these claims were true, you'd expect to see a multitude of pieces of regulation that disney supported, and few if any pieces of regulation that disney opposed, but this quick overview of some of disney world's political spending on florida trend [x] doesn't show that. now admittedly this is just the partial info for the disney world division in florida specifically, and not a general overview of all their political spending, so if anyone has more complete data i'd be interested to hear it. that said, i think it's a decent slice of data to start with.
in fairness, here we can find one notable example of disney lobbying for regulation- namely when they funded efforts to support Amendment 3, which would have prevented any more large casino chains from opening in florida, so that disney world could avoid competing with major casino chains like Genting and Las Vegas Sands. and, to be fair, as noted in the article this was a pretty major driver of campaign spending.
however, A: this was primarily aimed at combating rival megacorps, not combating small businesses, (and naturally the casino megacorps disney was fighting were spending their lobbying money to combat said regulation) and B: this was the only time in the article we see disney fighting for regulation rather than against. examples in the article of disney lobbying against regulation include:
By virtue of its size and economic importance, Disney has always been an influential voice in state politics. But the company had found itself on the losing end in a series of lobbying battles â among them, a fight with the National Rifle Association about whether employees could bring guns to work.
this is an important example of how regulation of private enterprise is sometimes necessary to preserve our fundamental rights- if disney can say employees can't bring guns to work even if they keep them in their parked car, what's to stop landlords from saying tenets can't bring guns in their apartment? if you value the right to bear arms, you should understand why sometimes the power of private enterprise over employees and customers must sometimes be curbed.
Disney also battled with personal-injury attorneys about whether parents could sign away the liability rights of their children and with counties and hotel chains about how online travel companies should be taxed.
[...]
Disneyâs 2018 spending included $1 million on Amendment 2, which keeps a tax cap in place that limits increases in the taxable value of commercial and other non-homestead property from rising more than 10% per year. Records show Disney was by far the largest donor to a Florida Chamber of Commerce-backed political committee used to promote the amendment. The cap saved Disney more than $6 million last year alone through reduced property tax payments to Orange County and the South Florida Water Management District.
[...]
As prominent as Disney has made itself on the campaign trail, lawmakers who have worked with the company say it still tries hard to maintain a low profile while lobbying â to avoid having its brand linked with potentially controversial public policies. Disney, for example, has exerted âsignificant influenceâ on the Legislature to not pass a law requiring employers to use the e-Verify system to ensure they arenât employing undocumented workers, says former Senate President Don Gaetz, a Republican from Okaloosa County.
[...]
Cloaked or not, the company enjoyed a number of successes in the 2019 legislative session. Late in the session, as lawmakers finalized a broad tax package, Disney â working through the Florida Retail Federation â persuaded lawmakers to add an extra sales-tax break that will help big retailers who order too much inventory and wind up not selling it all. Retailers generally donât have to pay sales tax when they order inventory because they are planning to resell it to consumers. The sale to consumers is the transaction thatâs supposed to be taxed. But retailers must pay the tax on whatever they donât sell, since they have become the end user of the product. Disney has for years donated its leftover inventory to charities. So the company persuaded the Legislature to create a sales tax exemption for the leftover inventory that goes to charity. Economists expect the new tax break will save retailers about $5 million a year. Disney wonât say how much it expects to save itself. Disney also worked quietly to reshape a bill, which it objected to in 2018, that would have exposed hotel operators to civil lawsuits if they failed to do enough to prevent human trafficking.
i'll leave it for the reader to consider why disney would want to combat regulation which might cause them to be held accountable for facilitating human trafficking.
Disney even won some changes in state rules for how tourist venues manage all the stuff â from hats to strollers to phones â that visitors lose or leave behind. Generally, businesses are supposed to alert law enforcement and must hold on to lost property for 90 days before they can dispose of it. But that has become cumbersome for Disney â and for Universal Orlando, Central Floridaâs other big theme-park resort â which must devote lots of warehouse space simply to holding lost-and-found items. Disney helped write a bill establishing new rules for theme parks, hotels and some other commercial venues that requires them to hold the property for just 30 days and then donate it directly to charity.
looking outside the article to other examples of disney's political lobbying, we find them lobbying against minimum wage laws [x]
Five years ago, on Nov. 6, 2018, the cityâs voters approved Measure L, which mandated that âarea resort workersâ â Disneyland employees, basically â must be paid a living wage if the parent company receives city subsidies. The Walt Disney Company, which at the time was paying some of its workers the state-mandated $11 an hour minimum, fought the measure bitterly, and the ordinance spent most of the next five years kicking around the state court system as a class-action lawsuit sought to force the company to comply. Only in late October, when the California Supreme Court declined to hear Disneyâs final appeal, did Measure L become settled city law.
we can also find disney lobbying against heat safety regulations (and against raises to the minimum wage at the same time, a twofer) [x]
House Bill 433 prohibits local governments from passing legislation that protects workers from extreme heat and laws requiring companies to raise the minimum wage beyond the stateâs current $12 an hour. But now, weâre learning more about how this bill was passed and the role that Disney World played in helping to remove basic protections from outdoor workers, including cast members. According to Jason Garcia of Seeking Rents, the Florida Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Florida donated more than $2 million to mostly Republican legislatures and another $1 million to the Florida Republican Party. The two lobbying groups expected House Bill 433 to become law for those donations.
[...]
Local government officials in South Florida were considering passing heat protections after the death of migrant farm workers of heat stroke. These laws would have prohibited work in extreme Florida heat and mandatory water breaks for workers. The possibility of these laws stopping work became dangerous to businesses in Florida, which would have had to shut down in extreme heat. Thus, donations to politicians were made to get this bill passed.
[...]
The law was wildly unpopular, with hundreds of civic groups opposing it. That outrage nearly killed the bill. However, according to Garcia, with just one day left in the legislative session, lobbyists sent texts to lawmakers to ensure the billâs passage.
so what can we see from all this? first, that there are more pieces of regulation that large businesses lobby against than regulations that they lobby for, so the claim that businesses are the primary force behind pushing regulation is patently false and B: when businesses do support regulation in order to pursue their financial interests, this is mainly in order to combat rival large corporations, not small businesses. because fundamentally large businesses don't have to worry that much about competition from small businesses, because fundamentally small businesses can't compete. a small business would have had to expand to the point of being a large corporation long before it would be something disney would have to worry about "competing" with instead of just buying out or ignoring entirely. you think that a megacorp like disney is worried about competition from a little mom and pop shop? get real.
Fines for breaking the rules, for example, always disproportionately affect small businesses where large corporations either have enough money to pay those fines and be unaffected by them, or have the legal teams to get around them.
a few responses to this. the first is, so what? laws against murder, rape, assault, etc are all easier for the rich to dodge, and yet we don't decide murder should be legal. the solution to that imbalance is to be more serious about holding rich people accountable for these crimes, or for fine-related punishment to scale the fine to income, not to get rid of the laws altogether. if a regulation outlaws genuinely abusive or harmful behavior from a company, the way that small companies can avoid that fine is by simply not engaging in abusive or harmful behavior.
secondly, plenty of regulations nonetheless have specific exemptions for small businesses anyway. for example
In general, if your business is under $50 million in annual sales and your fuel or additive has traditional chemistry, then you are exempt from the health effects testing requirements. If you have non-traditional chemistry and are under $10 million in annual sales, you are exempt from some of the testing. EPA staff can discuss testing requirements.
[x]
or for another example:
The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act requires packaged foods and dietary supplements to bear nutrition labeling unless they qualify for an exemption (A complete description of the requirements). One exemption, for low-volume products, applies if the person claiming the exemption employs fewer than an average of 100 full-time equivalent employees and fewer than 100,000 units of that product are sold in the United States in a 12-month period. To qualify for this exemption the person must file a notice annually with FDA. Note that low volume products that bear nutrition claims do not qualify for an exemption of this type. Another type of exemption applies to retailers with annual gross sales of not more than $500,000, or with annual gross sales of foods or dietary supplements to consumers of not more than $50,000. For these exemptions, a notice does not need to be filed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). On May 7, 2007, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched a new web-based submission process for small businesses to file an annual notice of exemption from the nutrition labeling requirements. The new process will make it easier for businesses to update their information. In addition, firms eligible for the exemption will receive an electronic reminder when it is time to resubmit their nutrition labeling small business exemption notice.
[x]
or yet another:
Manufacturers of consumer products covered by the Department of Energy (DOE) standards with annual gross revenues not exceeding $8 million from all its operations, including the manufacture and sale of covered products, for the 12-month period preceding the date of application, may apply for a temporary exemption from all or part of an energy or water conservation standard. (42 U.S.C. 6295 (t))
[x]
so, no, regulations are not a sinister trick of large corporations to crush small business, because if they were they wouldn't specifically exempt small businesses.
does this mean that @priveetru was right? are regulations an important part of maintaining ideal market conditions and thus creating Real Capitalism, which is Good?
also no.
first, it's all "real capitalism". more regulated, less regulated, it's still Real Capitalism. and as demonstrated by the things going on around us, right now, real capitalism is Bad.
as @traveling-spartan pointed out, large corporations can simply afford to pay or dodge any fees for breaking regulation (though overall they would prefer not to have to, hence why they usually fight against regulation) and small businesses are often exempt from regulations in the first place. so who do regulations actually prevent from economic malfeasance?
nobody. not a soul. they're a completely ineffective bandaid on a bazooka wound which accomplishes nothing.
regulated or unregulated, all market economies tend towards consolidation. on a long enough timeline, all small businesses either are successful enough to become large businesses, are unsuccessful enough to go out of business, or are average enough to get bought out. it's an inevitable part of capitalism as it actually exists, and no matter what fantasy you chase after of a hypothetical, imaginary, impossible "real" capitalism, whether this fantasy is laissez-faire or tightly regulated, you will never escape that reality.
if you want to solve the problem, you can't keep chasing after an imaginary "real capitalism". instead you need to move past capitalism altogether. if you want to address the fact that bill gates and other billionaires are monopolizing farmland and therefore gaining control over our very subsistence, the solution to that isn't to sit around praying to the invisible hand of the free market to save us, and it's also not begging and pleading the existing bourgeoisie state to Le Heckin Tax The Billionaires. the real solution is for regular working class people like us to rise up and take back what is rightfully ours, and create a new state that actually serves the needs of the working people and not just the owning class.

southern utah facts for fnaf fans
ok so as a person who lives in utah and has been to southern utah many, many times, i thought id write some info for people who want to know what its actually like! sometimes i see fan content from people who don't know anything about it and i cant help but laugh a little because yall imagine all this cool stuff there and its just like. gas station.
its pronounced hurra-kihn with a short [ih] /ÉȘ/ sound, not hurriCANE like the actual word. don't ask me why i have no answers
the VAST majority of utah has a religious suburb vibe. ESPECIALLY central and southern utah. imagine the type of place thats juuuuust big enough to have some big box stores and a couple of chain restaurants. thats what hurricane is like. many smaller towns in central/southern utah are tiny farming communities with the population of a few hundred people (and probably double that in cows)
This is a picture of hurricane from google maps, this is the vibe for most places south of provo!
The cities closest to hurricane are st george, cedar city, las vegas, mesquite, and the general provo area.
-St george is a smallish sized city with things like a mall, many national chain businesses, local businesses, an amphitheater, and manyyyy retiree communities with golf courses. - Cedar city has an ~olde towne~ feel with many historical buildings and small businesses. -Vegas is about 2 hours from Hurricane and its not unusual to take a day trip there -Mesquite is a casino/golfing town about 40 minutes from st george. Its right on the border of NV/AZ and its pretty common for families to drive out for a couple days to mess around the casino and eat over priced buffet food. -Provo is about 3 hours north of hurricane and is very mormon in culture. Feels like the twilight zone if you arent white and/or mormon. they have good restaurants tho and a water park. mainly built around Brigham Young University (byu) which is a very strictly religious campus. Apparently its a really good school if you can handle the restrictions.
Southern utah generally never gets colder than 70 degrees and is often over 100 in the summer
I've seen some people refer to hurricane as "south west utah" which is..not wrong? but no one says that. nearly all of the south east of the state is national parks with extreme geography that people cant exactly live in. There are some towns, but they rely heavily on tourism for the national monuments and such and are still smaller in population. If you say you're from southern utah, people will just assume you are from the st george area.
Southern utah has some of, in my opinion, the most beautiful views on earth. Views like these are within 25 minutes of hurricane. (image of canyon junction bridge from visitutah.com)
People in southern utah tend to be very friendly. If you're not from around there, you'll probably get polite stares in the smaller towns. In bigger areas like st george, customer service is typically very good. LDS people tend to take acting like a boy scout and being over the top helpful pretty seriously. (you know the mormon missionary stereotypes lol theyre persistent folks).
Silver reef is mostly really nice expensive homes now! Definitely not a ghost town anymore. The museum there does tours of the old ruins and an extremely nice cowboy will tell you all about how the founder of the town discovered the titular silver vein, but got run out of town by crazy prospector type fighting over the land (i like to imagine there was much hootinany-ing and pickaxes afoot) They do have a single animatronic, its of a donkey in a fake mine shaft exhibit under the museum!
Most of the towns around here have a shit ton of hotels and are mainly tourist destinations. Hiking and sightseeing are sort of classic state pastimes, outdoor sports bring in a ton of money so its really encouraged. Peak tourism season for southern utah is late summer/early fall. Mid summer is too hot to visit, its genuinely dangerous to hike in that weather. So september/october when its temperate is very busy.
As you might imagine, most of utah is conservative. Salt lake is pretty left leaning and is actually a pretty good place for queer people, but most of the state kind of just ignores anything that goes against doctrine. definitely a lot of maga types, but overall not violent or especially bigoted outwardly. The worst i tend to see is confederate flags, which are popular in agricultural areas. Mormons tend to be quietly exclusionary rather than confronting the sorts of minorities they dont like.
Another thing about mormons, they LOVEEEE SODA. SO MUCH. Those drive thru soda/cookie/icecream chains are all over the place, including southern utah. The sodas are usually mixed with things like coffee creamer or flavored syrups. Mormons cant drink coffee, so they get their caffeine/sugary treat this way.
Feel free to ask any questions or add your own tidbits!!
