I completed a water monotype of Pokemon Scarlet!
Water is always the easiest monotype to do a run-through of.
Artazon gym? Cakewalk with my Wingull and Mareanie. Lavencia gym? I'll admit that I over-leveled until Shellos evolved into Gastrodon so that I was able to sweep. I know it was cheap but I didn't think I'd stand a chance without it.
I did use an Azumarill for a while but eventually opted for a Wash Rotom because wanted another mon besides Gastrodon that wasn't weak to the electric type.
I did have to blow a max revive against Arven's Mabosstiff since Quaquaval was already down and then it died due to the rocky helmet anyway. I also blew one against AI Sada but I may have not needed it.
My MVP was Pelipper due to drizzle + surf and hurricane. Quaquaval was my ace due to close combat and ice spinner to KO the dragon types. I would terastilize him when needed to get rid of the weakness to flying type moves.
I also found a shiny Growlithe in this playthrough. I forgot to mention that in my previous playhtough (grass) I found a shiny Psyduck and Flamigo. Want to know how? Because I'm subscribed to PM7, and when you subscribe to PM7, you find shinies!

#registeel#and now this guy is maybe a bit less interesting. from this standpoint‚ i mean. the eyes being just dots make it a little hard to like#feel *connected* to them when they're ffp'd‚ y'know? i feel like it's kind of a reductive angle. which is why i zoomed this one and the last#one out a bit. so you can see a bit of the rest of their body. it's maybe less funny but would it really have been funny to just see 7 red#dots on a gray background and have to read the tag to know it's registeel? i dunno. maybe. maybe it would've been. but i like this more#maybe the explanation is that i'm taking these pictures myself. i personally know all these pokémon and have to ask them if i have permissio#n to take these pictures of them. but registeel said i couldn't get too close. so we settled with this. hehe yeah that's why :) hehe :)#anyway. you now have the aegis cave theme stuck in your head#hi it's me from the present. saturday morning. in yesterday's queued post i came up with the idea of maybe doing a monotype run of a pokémon#game. i don't know which one yet but i wanted to do water-type. but i was like. maybe i'll liveblog it on my main blog. yesterday#and today i came back and saw those tags as i was queuing up today's 'mons and i was like… hell maybe i could stream it if enough folks are#interested. but if anyone is then i didn't want to wait that long for the queue to get to that post bc that's gonna post on like. august 18#and class for my last semester of college Ever starts back up on august 21st and i don't. know if i want to start another pokémon playthroug#h that close to classes starting. especially not one where at least one (1) individual out there might be waiting for it So i put 'em here#they'll still be on that post but. they're here. just in case someone out there is chronically bored enough that that's something they'd be#interested in. y'never know there's a lot of folks here#anyway i will now queue up kricketot. see you then… or i guess see you whenever if you like send in an ask or a message or smth…

Okay, once I've figured out the technicalities, getting +150 strength per match wasn't too scary. That said, I'm never a big fan of any ranking stuff in gacha games, so I'm just scraping the bare minimum here.

Phacellophora, commonly known as the fried egg jellyfish or egg-yolk jellyfish, is a very large jellyfish in the monotypic family Phacellophoridae containing a single species Phacellophora camtschatica. This genus can be easily identified by the yellow coloration in the center of its body which closely resembles an egg yolk, hence its common name. Some individuals can have a bell close to 60 cm (2 ft) in diameter, and most individuals have 16 clusters of up to a few dozen tentacles, each up to 6 m (20 ft) long. A smaller jellyfish, Cotylorhiza tuberculata, typically found in warmer water, particularly in the Mediterranean Sea, is also popularly called a fried egg jellyfish. Also, P. camtschatica is sometimes confused with the Lion's mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata). - Wikipedia

I can see how terastalising will probably work fairly well in the metagame, but I think they use it very, very badly in-game. Like, it's happened multiple times now that I fight a gym leader by using a single Pokémon of mine to just sweep their whole monotype team, and then they send out something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to finish and I'm like 'Shit, fuck, I wasn't prepared for -"
And then they terrastalise it into the same monotype, so it's no problem whatsoever
It's a missed trick! Like, okay, Grusha: the Ice gym. Currently, he sends out four Ice types and then the topper is an Altaria - a problem in an Ice gym, since of the four types Ice is weak to (Fire, Fighting, Steel and Rock) Altaria actively resists the most common two and takes normal damage from the third. But he terrastalises it, so it becomes equally weak to all four while providing nothing new to his team whatsoever.
But. BUT. If he were to reverse this! Let's say he finishes on a Mr Rime instead. Ice/Psychic, so it can handle Fighting types already, and so its Ice weaknesses are reduced to the Fire/Steel/Rock trinity.
If it then terrastalises into a Ground type, he can now defend against all four. It's not insurmountable, of course, you can still use Water or Grass or even Ice (oh the irony) to shift him. But that's much harder to do when you walked into an Ice gym armed with your Fire and Steel types knowing what to expect. That's going to keep you on your damn toes.
Missed trick, is what I'm saying, and also I'm very sorry to Grusha for having just annihilated his whole team with a single Ceruledge because he seems to be a broken man I think

"Fish" of the Day
Today's "fish" of the day today is bullwhip kelp!
Tumblr media
Bullwhip kelp is a monotypic family, so its scientific name is simply Nereocystis. As a species of kelp, bullwhip kelp is neither a plant nor an animal, but rather is a protist (a protist being any multicellular organism that is not a plant, fungi, or animal) related to and considered a kind of algae. This particular kelp is known by many names, bull kelp, bullwhip kelp, bladderwrack, and edible kelp to name the ones I found. Bullwhip kelp is the most widespread, however this is confusing as the bullwhip kelp is not a part of the Southern bull kelps, which is a whole family of its own found in New Zealand, South America, and Antarctica.  Bullwhip kelp, known primarily for their location along the Pacific coast, stretches from the Aleutian islands of Alaska, down to the Southern most sections of South California. Likely common to many of the readers of this email, it is found washed up on the Oregon, Washington, and California coastlines regularly.
Tumblr media
Now, as these posts are mostly focused on fish and other aquatic animals, I will spend a moment focusing on information about kelp itself. As previously mentioned, kelps are protists, belonging to the Laminariales order, which is made up of certain kinds of brown algae. The Laminariales order is found in the Phaeophyceae class, which consists of all brown algae and makes up kelps and some seaweeds. The difference between the two being that kelp is larger and more complex than other seaweed brown algaes, along with requiring more nutrient rich waters and only living in cooler environments. This is opposed to seaweeds which are broad, diverse, and able to stretch into environments kelp cannot.
Tumblr media
Kelps are made up of  structurally complex bodies involving certain plantlike features. A root-ball like structure at the bottom, called a holdfast, acts as a living anchor for the entire organism. The difference between plant roots and the holdfast however, is that it acts as purely anchoring, and does not provide any nutrients to the organism itself. Upward from there is a long and thin section of kelp referred to as a stipe. The stipe of the organism is hollowed out and filled with a series of gases, but the main one is carbon monoxide, making up ten percent of all gases within kelp. These gases are used in the kelp to suspend itself, this gas is held within the rounded pneumatocyst, which some kelp several of. Sprouting from the pneumatocyst are flat sections called blades, these blades are held as close to the surface of the water for photosynthesising, although a 2020 study found that these blades often evolved specific shapes to best increase drag in the water, allowing better interception of light. This is the basics of kelp structure.
Tumblr media
Focusing once again on bullwhip kelp, it is known for being some of the larger and faster growing kelp species. Growth occurs in the space between the stipe and the blades of the kelp itself and during the summer growth months there are times where a single stalk of kelp can grow as much as half a meter in a day! They can grow to a maximum length of 36 meters, or 118 feet (stipe and blades), with the blades alone getting 10 meters in length (33 feet) and the possibility to grow 15cm in a day. In bull kelp the pneumatocyst can grow anywhere between 30-64 blades, which is usually high for kelp. Bull kelp is the only kelp species to create spore reproductive packages in the right amount to precisely land at the holdfast of the parent kelp, which drop from the blades once mature.
These kelp are vital to the ecosystems beneath the water, providing homes, and meals for huge numbers of species. Not only that, but their presence keeps large waves from affecting the coastline much harder than it would. This is why it is so concerning that harvest is allowed to happen up to 2 meters on growing kelp, often severing the pneumatocyst and the reproductive spore packages. Other than that, human causes are often bad for kelp forests, as it regularly drives away otters, which are essential for keeping the urchin population in check. If the urchin population becomes uncontrolled, they will consume entire kelp forests over time. This is why we must ensure we remain careful in how we interact with the environment around us, in hopes that we can prevent it from dying out.
Tumblr media
That's the bullwhip kelp, everybody. I hope you had a wonderful time reading about it, even if it is a bit out of range from the usual topics, and have a wonderful day!

day 18: water type - milotic+inteleon* (oxiver+ajex)
i love that the last type prompt ends on my fave type, water! so i decided to spend some more time on the piece today...
my monotype water is themed around maids & butlers, who work in pairs and deal with getting rid of bodies and ghosts. they basically act as cleaners and exorcists.
i didn't get to develop the establishment as much as i wanted to yet, so the only completed pair is oxiver and ajex...they are both difficult people with high standards so they ended up as partners. they also have violent tendencies and scare most people so there is that too lol...they jab at each other a lot but it is done out of love of course.

For exactly absolutely no reason at all. zero. none. ....
I'm going to poll yall on what kind of Monotype team each of HMS would have. I am leaving out the ones I think are least likely because the choice limit is 12. Put other if I left out the one you'd think he is
Heart first, no wrong answers

A multimedia piece I did of Esmé :]
The outfit is for a DnD campaign + a future au.
Used Monotype print with water-based intaglio and akua ink for the background, used Micron pens, white gel pens, and alcohol markers for the figure.

What type would each Pokemon villain be? Including Tera types.
Sure! I like playing Pokémon type tarot or whatever you want to call it. I guess Tera types could be like a hidden side, one that shows up in fewer situations, or one that is more variable.
Giovanni: Ground/Normal (Tera fighting)
In addition to it being his type specialty, ground is fitting with Giovanni in that he’s a grounded person. He has a plan B, C, and D, his organization is well-structured enough to go on without him for years, and while he has grand goals, he’s fine approaching them slowly and realistically. Normal is because his goal is pretty mundane compared to other villains and because of his persian and kangaskahn. And he’s shown to greatly value Pokémon battling and his abilities in it, thus the fighting Tera.
Maxie: Fire/Ground
It’s the type of primal groudon and his camerupt. Ground represents how his team is more organized than Team Aqua and his general preference for structure, and fire represents his emotionality and anger.
Archie: Water
It just seemed right for someone this obsessive to be a monotype. This one needs no explanation. It also fits him being cooler-headed and needing/wanting less structure than Maxie.
Cyrus: Flying/Dark (Tera electric)
Aside from flying and dark being his most-used types, flying represents that he’s ambitious to the point of being unrealistic and that he doesn’t see limits. Dark is for his selfishness and deceit. And electric is for his association with technology, rotom, and his crackling passion (Tera because he hides it).
Volo: Fairy/Ghost (Tera dragon)
It seemed right for Volo to be represented by the types most associated with myth, and both ghosts and fairies are associated with impishness. Dragon is the type of power and grand goals, and it’s his Tera type because he pretends to just be a quirky merchant while secretly being very strong and ambitious. Plus, dragon and ghost are the types of Giratina.
N: Grass/Dragon (Tera: fire or electric)
Grass is the type of calm, nurturing and kindness, as well as fragility. Dragon is the type of power, royalty and mysticism. Fire and electric can both represent passion, with fire being a more romanticizing passion (truth) and electric being a goal-driven one (ideals). Which N would have would depend on the version.
Ghetsis: Dark/Dragon
For his selfish, soulless, underhanded ambition and daring nature, there could be no other type but dark/dragon. It’s also the type of his ace. Dragon also suits his refined presentation.
Colress: Steel/Electric (Tera flying)
They’re the types associated with technology. Colress seems like he has a good balance between calm sturdiness and goal-driven passion. Flying is for his irresponsible ambition- he sees no limits, even when he absolutely should be seeing moral ones.
Lysandre: Fire/Flying (Tera dark)
Lysandre is a man with high ideals and a passion that could easily become very dangerous. Dark is for his deceitfulness and hatefulness, and it’s his Tera type because he hides it from the public.
Lusamine: Poison/Fairy
In contrast to the uncaring dark type, poison types often become harmful because of obsession and high, uncontrolled emotions. Fairy type represents her love of aesthetics and generally feminine personality.
Guzma: Bug/Fighting
In addition to being a bug specialist, Guzma prides himself on being a pest, unwilling to show respect for that which he doesn’t find respectable. He’s also highly aggressive, angry and destructive.
Rose: Steel (Tera poison)
Monotype because he’s obsessive, poison because he’s toxic and to associate him with Eternatus.
Piers: Dark/Normal
Aside from it being the type of his ace, I associate the normal type with an appreciation for the mundane, which fits with his goals of caring for his town and his sister.
Penny: Fairy/Electric (Tera fire)
Ngl, fairy is mostly because of sylveon, but it also represents her naughtiness and rebelliousness pretty well. Electric is because of her tech skills, and fire is because, though it’s understated, she’s clearly a very passionate person.
Kieran: Grass/Poison
Kieran is gentle, sweet and meek by nature, but he’s also highly emotional and has acted in some very toxic ways because of it and his obsessions with Ogerpon and strength.
