Modern AU - Azulon doesn't like that Ozai married Ursa and he really doesn't like that he had kids with her. To fix this, he pulls strings and has CPS take Zuko, Azula and Kiyi away and send them states away. While Ozai and Ursa are fighting Azulon and CPS, the siblings get taken in by Kya and Hakoda and brought to their home meeting Katara and Sokka.

It's absolutely criminal that we were never given any insight into the dynamics of the Water Tribe sib's family before Kya died beyond simply "katara was a mama's girl and sokka was a daddy's boy". And Kya! We only have one scene of Kya! We don't know basically anything about her personality besides that she was incredibly dedicated to her children. If anyone has any headcanons/ fic recs about the water family I'd 100% love to hear them

I want more female characters who are just so bad at comforting others. Not for lack of trying or caring, they just get so so awkward when someone's upset, and they try to repeat things they've heard even if it doesn't necessarily apply to the situation, or they accidentally say the wrong thing and make it worse. If someone cries they panic and throw every single comfort technique down at once and it only helps because it's such bizarre behaviour

He laughs, gently tugging you onto the green ground beneath him as you huff. He kisses your pouting lips before positioning you on his legs so you're comfortable.

"Yes. What is wrong?"

He's smiling softly even as his finger taps mindlessly against your hip, and you let out a quiet sigh—not wanting to speak the words but knowing you had to.

"It's getting late. Your family will notice you're gone." You scold lightly, gently tracing the stripes on his chest idly as he shifts under you with a rare grin that stretched over the entirety of his face

"So? They're all fine, I am not needed right now. I will explain later—"

"What? That you were busy with me?" You say, pinching your brows with a sigh as he laughs. You didn't want Neteyam to get in trouble, but he could be so stubborn sometimes.

He's quiet after a bit, and you realize he's in deep thought when he stares off into the trees, tilting his head up towards the darkening sky before he turns to you

"I... I'd just like to stay here with you for a while longer. Is that okay?"

Your heart melts at the sight of his hopeful smile.

"And you think I want to leave you?" You murmur against his lips as he grins, cradling the back of your head in the palm of his hand as he presses a soft kiss onto your forehead

"No."

You're leaning back onto his chest after a while, watching the sun's rays twinkle out of sight as the stars rise—the night comes slowly but surely, and there isn't a single other soul in the world Neteyam would watch the moon with rather than you.

What kind of music does the fire family and the water tribe family enjoy?

I definitely believe hakoda is the cliche dad to sing the same music he listened to as a teenager in the car with his kids

Hakoda definitely listens to the music he liked as a teenager! He's the reason Sokka and Katara know all the oldies by heart whether they want to or not.

Kya would listen to country music. Not the kind where they like their truck a little too much, but the raw soulful country music you feel in your bones.

Katara would listen to upbeat pop songs like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter. She would also be into K-Pop.

Sokka's favorite genre is songs he likes. There's no rhyme or reason. If he likes it, he likes it. If he doesn't then he doesn't. So, it's a toss in the air what he's listening to.

Ozai would listen to what my coworker calls Butt Rock music. The raspy deep singers like Linken Park. He also suspiciously knows all the lyrics to the latest pop songs.

Ursa would listen to classical music. Like the revered orchestra classics. Pentacle of art. No lyrics.

Zuko would listen to Emo music like My Chemical Romance and secretly show tunes of his favorite musicals. As he gets older, he listens to his show tunes more out in the open.

Azula would listen to indie rock music like Florence and the Machine. I can really see her relating to the lyrics a lot.

Iroh would listen to the pop music unironically. He and Katara kill it.

Azulon's a freak who only listens to the News.

When the organization turns against them and they're forced to flee, going into witness protection, they take on new names and identities and move into a suburban town. The first day there, their new neighbors introduce themselves as Hakoda, Kya, Katara and Sokka.
