Oh hello there, I almost missed you.
Sometimes your International Boyfriend Pablo needs to indulge in a nap. But since few couches can contain my towering height and sizeable wingspan, I must make do. Old cement blocks aren’t much, but the proximity to water makes for a cool nap, even under the bright sunlight.

Sillydumb Reidak/Avak (Reivak?) Headcanons
• They are god-awful at cooking but it’s not for a lack of trying.
Soup? Easy, throw things in a pot and heat.
Rice? 25% chance they’ll mess up the ratio for water and end up with mush.
Eggs? Might end up a little too crispy but still edible.
Anything more complex? Burnt to Karzahni and back.
In any modern/human au they’d rely mostly on takeout.
• Due to physical limitations (ie, the shape of their faces) they aren't really able to kiss normally. So they resort to affectionate bites, sometimes just holding the other’s shoulder or tail in their teeth. Ormaybejustusetongueidunno
• Once they start being more friendly with one another, Reidak carries Avak on his shoulder when the latter starts getting tired. It’s something that Avak loudly objects to, he can walk by himself he’s fine, but there’s not much he can do when he’s tossed over Reidak’s shoulder like a sack of potatoes (The protesting gets more performative over time as they develop ❤).
• Skakdi, when performing ceremonies or other occasions where armor is removed, tend to paint their scars to make them stand out more, to show what they have survived through. Due to his adaptive ability, Reidak doesn't have a lot of scars, but he paints what few he has in a brilliant gold. Avak has a lot of scars from the Shadowed One’s “masters of pain”, and while he has every right to show off that he could survive that, he believes those scars are nothing to be proud of, so never paints them.
• Avak gives off a lot of body heat but doesn’t retain it very well, a stiff breeze will get him shivering all over again. Reidak retains what little body heat he has very well, which translates to him curling up around Avak like a cat when things get cold.
• As many have HC’d before me, Reidak has a very distinctly cockney accent, and he starts using rhyming slang when he’s being sarcastic or getting especially pissy.
• Avak has a hormone imbalance of some variety, due to a separate headcanon that I didn't expect to overlap with him.
It started with me HC’ing that female skakdi had thagomizers at the ends of their tails. Both because they’re rad as hell and it adds dimorphism in a species that I imagine doesn’t have a lot of (I'm biased bc I like big burly ladies).

All the other Piraka don't have tails like that, it’s just him. It’s not a full thag, they tend to be spikier, but that little leaf shape cemented the idea in my mind.
• Reidak’s claustrophobia extends to getting tied up, mainly pinning his arms to his sides, and being in tight crowds.
• Avak gets tinnitus something awful, it comes with the territory of using and making guns for a living, especially if prototypes blow up in one’s face. The aforementioned “masters of pain” probably didn’t help.
• The shape on Reidak’s forehead isn't a third eye, it just happens to look like it. But he absolutely pretends that it is to scare the hell out of people who don’t know better.
• Avak would fucking love Rammstein. I have no idea why, it just feels right.

Stromatolites
3.5 billion years ago life first appeared along the water's edge as single-celled organisms called cyanobacteria (sī-an-nō-back-tir’-ē-ah). This is how the Archean Eon got it’s name, derived from the Greek word arkhē,  meaning “the beginning.” Cyanobacteria did not require oxygen for sustenance, but instead relied on carbon dioxide and a green pigment called chlorophyll (klor'-eh-fil) to survive. Cyanobacteria use chlorophyll to absorb and store the sun's energy within it’s molecules to power the conversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates for food. During this process, oxygen is released as a waste byproduct, a process called photosynthesis — derived from the Greek words photo (light) and synthesis (putting things together). 
When cyanobacteria first appeared, the Earth’s atmosphere was 1% oxygen, and 40% carbon dioxide. Over the next to billion-plus years cyanobacteria consumed so much carbon dioxide and released so much oxygen that the composition of the atmosphere was transformed. The ratio of carbon dioxide to oxygen inverted, with  21% oxygen and .03% carbon dioxide, an episode in earth’s history known as The Great Oxygenation Event, and made all future life possible. Without cyanobacteria life would not exist today as we know it.
Cyanobacteria left behind stony structures as evidence of their existence. As cyanobacteria grew they secreted a sticky mucus that shielded them from the sun's ultraviolet radiation, but at the same time trapping sediment that was suspended in waves washing over them. In order to access precious sunlight, the bacteria would mobilize upward through the trapped debris. At the same time, the process of photosynthesis depleted carbon dioxide in the surrounding water, making it less acidic, thus initiating the precipitation of calcium carbonate that cemented the accumulating sediments together. The process repeated again and again, turning layer upon layer into a stony structure called a Stromatolite (strō-mat’-l-īte). These structures were slow-forming and a 3 foot stromatolite might take up to 3,000 years to create!

There's nothing about Blightford that suggests metropolitan grandeur, but what the town may lack in steepled skyscrapers and gargantuan economic prowess, it more than makes up for with the wind-blown beauty of its cobbled streets and soft-spoken hospitality. G H O U L S
There's a staunch line that exists between the living and the dead, and those who have rebuffed the cold embrace of eternal sleep have seized that boundary between the decaying palms of their hands. Forcefully separated from life, an embittered spirit that has opted to remain on earth is recognized within the magical community as a ghoul. Upon vehemently rejecting entry into the land of the dead, a ghoul whose remains are intact is tasked with the challenge of exhuming themselves from their final resting place and immediately procuring sustenance. According to the witches and warlocks of Blightford, it is believed that fuel for a reanimated body consists of a diet rich in offal in an effort to discourage further decomposition. In fiction, ghouls are often depicted as malevolent, winged entities equipped with fangs and claws, but to the untrained eye, the walking dead may appear no different than the average human being. If, however, one suspects the presence of a ghoul in their immediate vicinity, they can confirm their suspicions by inspecting the body for signs of fatal injuries still weeping lymph and blood.
M U N D A N E S 
In possession of no magical ability, humans are colloquially – and sometimes disparagingly — referred to as ordinary, as simple, as “mundanes”. Humans make up a significant number of the Blightford population, out-numbering the magical folk by a ratio of three to one; however, despite their prominence, a substantial number of humans are wholly unaware of authentic supernatural phenomena taking place in their own backyard. With the turn of the century, the advent of technology, and the historical documentation of witchery reduced to little more than longstanding colonial folklore and superstition, the non-magical inhabitants of Blightford are more than happy to entertain distant relatives and tourists with spurious accounts of unexplainable New England happenings. 
V A M P I R E S
Insatiable, pernicious, and riddled with mystique, vampires have long since cemented their foothold in the hierarchy of supernatural beings. Theirs is a history that spans continents and nation lines, written word and dramatic re-tellings told by mouth; they are a species whose fearsome presence among the living has been illustrated in gilded mirrors arranged in a perfect circle, drams of holy water balanced atop a bedside table, and garlands of garlic suspended over a shuttered door. Vampires have not always existed in Blightford, however, their presence and various abilities have been documented in various locations across the Northeastern United States. The vast majority of vampires remain nocturnal and sustain themselves on a strict regimen of blood with little consideration for the source, and may travel extraordinary distances in the form of an opaque mist or a colony of bats. However, in recent years, there have been alleged sightings of vampires during daytime hours who have earned themselves the epithet of “diurnals”. This variant of vampire is created through the routine consumption of human flesh, hair, and fingernails in tandem with human blood.

Okay I had a few people ask how to make the concrete smoothie so I decided to remake it this morning since I wasn’t paying super close attention to the ratio of ingredients I put in yesterday

Mission success. I have a delicious glass of cement for breakfast this morning
The full ingredient list is:
Milk (I use just enough to cover the blades of my blender before I add any solid ingredients but you can adjust based on how thick you want it)
Peanut butter (1 extra large spoonful or 2 large spoonfuls)
2 tablespoons of black chia seeds (I soak them in 4 tablespoons of water for a few minutes just to soften them before I blend them)
1 whole banana
Roughly 1 and a half to 2 handfuls of spinach (I’ve made this smoothie with only fresh spinach before and it’s never turned out grey. It only turned this color yesterday and today when I was using frozen spinach for the first time so maybe that makes it darker? Unsure but something to keep in mind)
2-3 handfuls of frozen blueberries
Honey (optional, I added it yesterday but forgot to add it this morning. Doesn’t make a difference to anything but the taste but it’s a very subtle difference either way. It’s still plenty sweet to me without the honey)
The spinach and blueberries are going to have the greatest effect on the final color. You want to have roughly the same amount of each so the green and purple colors cancel each other out to make cement grey. As you can see I didn’t really take specific measurements, but just try to get them roughly equal. And like I said above, frozen spinach might be better to use than fresh spinach for the color
