2020: A [Fandom] Summary

2020 was a pretty rotten year, let’s face it, so now I’m safely away from it for good I’m stealing something @gumnut-logic​ mentioned to me and summarising all the things I managed to make this year!  Let’s start 2021 on a nice positive note... look at all the things I managed to do in the world of fandom!

I published 69 works, 66 of which are complete - all for Thunderbirds Are Go

Which came to a total of 268,863 words (Tumblr-only scenes and short stories came to a further 29,764 words which put my grand total up to 298,627!)

My most popular fic on tumblr was Out Patience with 60 notes (wow!!)

My most kudos’d fic on AO3 was Bedtme (Should Not Be 4am) with 62 kudos!

My most favourited fic on FFN was Grounded with 13 favourites!

My longest fic was Long Way From Home, which is incomplete but on 30,902 words published so far (longest complete fic was Grounded on 21,100 words)

Universe Falls turns 5 years old this week

I was 19 when I started it and still in college, in the throes of depression bc I hated college and wanted out even during the start of my sophomore year. I was homesick and had only a handful of friends bc I was shy as fuck back then and terrified of rejection (and had gone from a small pond back in high school where I was fairly popular to being an absolute nobody in college). I really, really fucking hated it during my freshman year and in particular and begged my dad to let me come home and go to college there instead of thousands of miles away. But for better or worse he made me stick it out even though I was absolutely miserable. But if there was anything that got me through that horrible freshman year it was my discovery of two shows: 

Steven Universe and Gravity Falls

I binged SU first, having seen it when it first aired back in 2013 but then got back on the bandwagon for it around the time its first season ended, which was when I became a devout fan. GF was something I discovered through tumblr, I watched it not long after Not What He Seems premiered and fell in love hard and fast. I would spend hours watching and rewatching these episodes, reading fics and fan theories, speculating on what was going to happen next. Never before in my life had I ever discovered two shows that brought be so much joy and comfort until these two came into my life. I loved these characters, felt like they were the friends I knew I was lacking even though they were fictional. But they felt real, they felt alive to me. 

So fast forward to August/September 2015. I had just started my sophomore year and so far wasn’t having any better of a time than I had when I was a freshman. I still clung onto GF and SU as new, very exciting episodes were airing for both (that was the month we got the Last Mabelcorn and Catch and Release, for reference’s sake). And then, one night, while I was falling asleep in my cramp dorm room I shared with a roommate I couldn’t stand, the thought occurred to me: 

What if you brought these two things you loved so much... together?

It was a random thought, almost insignificant, but in the days that followed, I just couldn’t shake it. And the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to see these characters interact, the more I wanted to see their plots intertwine, the more I knew I was the one who had to write this since GF and SU crossovers were pretty scarce back then (unlike they are now in the new wave of SUF and GF crossovers that I don’t much care for). 

I was in the midst of a writing funk at the time, my ongoing Zelda fics all on hitaus while I began a new year at college. I had more or less lost passion for most of them, with the majority of them except my HW fic receiving low numbers of reviews and feedback (back then I didn’t really know how to promote my fics like I do now). Even so, I started planning on this new project, but not without a bit of hesitation since I’d never really worked with GF or SU characters before. But I began plotting out a chapter list (the original UF chapter list has been lost to the ages, I wrote it in an old homework planner during class), and I had decided that I wanted to try my hand at making this thing a comic. A hand drawn comic. And given that my drawing abilities were... subpar at best, yeaaaaah it wasn’t the best idea....

Still, I got through two parts of UF’s “first chapter” and posted them on here (they’re still up somewhere if you wanna go back and cringe hardcore at my bad old art). Still, it had taken me a loooooong ass time to draw them and even more crazy was the fact that my laptop had crashed during that span of time, leaving me with only my shitty iPad to work with. Frustrated, I decided to forego the stupid comic altogether and write the damn thing as a fanfic, knowing I could get chapters out way faster than I ever would have by drawing it. 

So I wrote the prologue and posted it on September 29, 2015. And let’s just say right off the bat people were excited. I’d never seen so many reviews on the first chapter of one of my fics before and those numbers only started to go up the more I posted. I was jazzed up to work on this fic, pushed on by this encouragement as I decided to build my relatively reblogging-heavy blog up around it. Toward the end of the year, when I was nearing the end of arc 1, I decided to get myself a drawing tablet and download Sai so I could begin drawing my own art for the fic, leading to me first passes of character designs and UF’s old fugly cover lol

Still, I kept going with it into 2016, getting through both arcs 2 and 3 as the fic only began to grow more and more with more engagement from its fans. AUs were made, fanfics and fanarts of my fic were created, it was a glorious time to be alive, even going into 2017, 2018, 2019, and now. And all the while I kept at it, coming up with sequel plans, taking breaks every now and then to refresh and recoup, and to give the new pet project I started in 2019 (Keys to the Kingdom) some time to shine. But I’ve still never truly lost passion for UF. It’s something I tend to see through to completion, no matter how long it takes.

Fast forward again and now its 2020. I’m 24 years old and still going strong with it, having just completed RMD, an arc ender that I always hoped would be my magnum opus for this fic (and I’m so incredibly proud of how it turned out). Both GF and SU have ended, their stories both told and their endings inspiring me in so many different ways. And while those stories are over, I still strive to keep these characters, or perhaps, my own unique takes on them, living on to tell new stories, to have new adventures right alongside the canon ones. To keep their flames going in the same spirit and hopefully try to follow, even in some small way, in the footsteps of Rebecca Sugar and Alex Hirsch, two of my absolute heroes in the animation world. 

So UF turns 5 this week. It’s half a decade old and it’s nearing its 100th chapter. Its passed the 1 million word mark quite some time ago and I’m sure it’ll pass 2 million before its all said and done. It’s accumulated thousands of reviews, hundreds of followers/favorites, plenty of incredible fan interactions across the board. It’s 9th arc is about to begin, leading the way into 2 more before its all said and done. And from there it’ll only grow when I eventually write UF2 and UFF sometime way down the line. All things I could have never imagined doing as a lonely college sophomore back in 2015 when I was just starting this fun little experiment off. But as for where we are with it no, well, I wouldn’t have it any other way. 

So here we are in the future. And, well, for UF at least, I’d say it’s pretty bright.

My favorite that are still consistnetly pushing out content are probably Nostalgia Critic and Todd in the Shadows, but I have a special place in my heart for The Spoony Experiment and especially Paw Dugan, who’s infectious love for everything he plays is a joy to watch.

2. Hulu or Netflix? - It used to be just Neftlix, but Hulu Live sucked me in by letting me watch my favorite shows, so it’s about even now.

3. Favorite Disney movie? - Tough choice! I love so many! I think right now it may be Tangled, because I adore Rapunzel.

5. Fanart you would commission if you had unlimited monies? Oh goodness... so many ideas, but only one slot... I think I would probably commission something in the style of the painted of the Star Wars movie posters and the game’s splash screens for the expansions. The hard part would be deciding what part of the Knight’s saga to represent.

Whoa, so many fandoms in one question :D. Actually I did the Danganronpa one, so I’m gonna do XS and Ososan one.And because that post is long, I’m gonna cut the answer here:

So, let’s move on to Matsu Matsu Doki Doki questions. I haven’t watched second season yet, so I’m gonna answer this questions, basing on first season’s episodes.

OSOMATSU SAN:1.  Character I first fell in love with:I think it would be Karamatsu. Cool romantic guy with glitter pants on his butt, playing guitar and having tank shirt with his face… come on, who wouldn’t like him?

2. Character I never expected to love as much as I do now:Probably…. Osomatsu. At first he was so… plain for me? Like every other matsus have their own strong characters and only Osomatsu was just Big Brother. But more I watched episodes, I started to like him.

3. Character everyone loves but I don’t:I’m not a big fan of Atsushi, I guess? He is such popular in fandom, mostly because people loves shipping him with Totti and I just… don’t get it? He was only in ONE episode for few seconds and then suddenly everyone are drawing fanarts with him. Did I miss something or what….

4. Character I love but everyone else hates:I remember how for a long time Totti was the least favorite matsu in fandom, mostly because he was two-faces cutie devil. But I really liked him, because as the youngest kid in the family I could understand his behavior and action. And seeing some spoilers on the tumblr, I think there is an episode about him in new season and it looks good. But like I said - I haven’t seen it yet.

5. Character I used to love but don’t any longer: Thanks to fandom, I don’t like Chibita anymore :^).

6. Character I would kiss:Matsu parents on the head, because they deserve better.

7. Character I want to slap:I would slap Dekapan and Dayon so hard that they would blow up to the space and never come back.

8. A pairing I love:JYUSHI AND HOMURA CHAN IS THE PUREST PAIRING EVER

9. A pairing I hate:I’m not sure if there is any canon pairing I don’t like, but in the fandom I really, really, REALLY don’t like Karabita. Like I said in Danganronpa post, I’m not a fan immediately shipping friends, just because they’re friends and they are showed together. It looks for me like in fandom there is no place for friends, and every characters who is a friend with someone is immediately in a pairing with them. Which is sad for me, because even if I would like to see arts with them together, it’s pretty hard to find non-romantic content. People can spending time together with friends without all this doki doki shit, you know.___

Now it’s time for Xiaolin Showdown! GONG YI TAN PAI!

1.  Character I first fell in love with: Jack Spicy Boi. I love evil genius nerds. And I wish he could be treated better in third season.

2.  Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Definitely Clay. At first he looked for me like High School Football Dude, who would be meany and stupid or something like that. But holy cow how wrong was I, he is such a cute good character. I’m so happy I was wrong with him.

3.  Character everyone loves but I don’t: That’s funny, because my friend who showed me Xiaolin Showdown thought, that Chase Young would be my favorite character, like he is favorite villain in the fandom… But no, I’m not his fan. He is a typical evil guy with tragic backstory and I prefered much more Wuya than him.

4. Character I love but everyone else hates: I think there is no character like that? That everyone hates except me? idk

5. Character I used to love but don’t any longer: Probably Wuya, mostly because she was so…. useless after being bringed to life by Cheese Young. She was such a cool witch with cool power in cool castle at the end of the first season and later she… what actually she did later? Nothing, just hanging around and complaining about _breathing and eating_ like, you know, living human?

6. Character I would kiss: Spicy boi, because he deserves much better than he got

7. Character I want to slap:Omi. God he was so annoying for me

8. A pairing I love: I’m so weak for Jack and Himiko pairing. That pairing has such a dynamic feelings and I really enjoy reading fanfics with them. And one fanfic, unfortunately never finished, was one of my favorite fics all the time from all fandoms.

9. A pairing I hate:Probably because I joined too late to the fandom, but I really… don’t… understand… Jack and Chase pairing………. like……… Chase is a thousand years old dude and Jack is a teenager….. i don’t get why that pairing is so popular….

1. Your first OC ever?

It was a vampire in the Beyblade universe, her name was Tru Darling and I was 14, don’t judge me lol

2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs?

I have a personal soft spot for Eleanora ‘Nora’ Argent obviously. She’s the first fully fleshed out character I’ve created and I thought about her for a year before I started writing. I’m just super proud of her.

3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else?

The same beyblade fic I had made friends with some folks on ff.net and basically added them as characters. By the time I was down there was like 20 OC’s in the story and it wasn’t finished. It was a mess lol.

4. A character you rarely talk about?

Mika Parker, she’s a poly-sterek fic I started to work on but she never got very far. I might still write her some day. She helps spark!Stiles control his magic and come to grips with his attraction to one Derek Hale

5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be?

Ooooo it’s hard to pick, but I think I’d have to go with Nora. Just because I’m like 18 chapters in and I just really want to see people love my little broken bird.  

6. Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related?

The only ones who aren’t related that look somewhat alike would be Gabriel and Valentina and only because they’re blonde and blue eyed. Not really anything other than that.

Eleanora and Gabriel are part of The Moon Huntress (latest chapter here)

My biggest troublemaker would be Gabriel from TMH, he’s not even fully introduced into the fic as a real person and he’s causing all kinds of problems ;)

Eleanora Argent thought she was tough as nails, but being back in Beacon Hills hunting a rogue alpha werewolf throws her world for a loop. And the addition of Derek Hale in her life only helps to complicate things. Her family has a code, but what's her code?

Like it? I love it! And I love hearing about others OCs as well. Anything you wanna know ask away and I’ll try my best to answer.

Probably Frankie, she’s super smart and not afraid to go after finding something out she doesn’t know about. Unfortunately she doesn’t have much time to study.

The one that would probably sing would be Valentina and it’d be a soft sweet voice singing something in Russian

Nora for sure, if she was in AU she’d be finishing art school and have a thriving career illustrating graphic novels or something similar. She draws allot to try to sort her mess of a head out.

Nora again, I sometimes get the feeling people think of her allot like Kate but I hope that the more you read the more people realize they couldn’t be more different.

23. Introduce OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like?

Frankie has changed allot but it has to do with development as she doesn’t have a story fully yet. Also watching the first episode of Riverdale changed some things in my head.

24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?

Probably Nora so I could give a hug she wouldn’t take ;)

There’s allot of myself in Nora, hard to write some of the traits without including myself or having personal experience but I feel each of my characters has a small part of me in them. Yes even Gabriel... :D

I changed Nora FC after joining tumblr and realizing that I wanted to learn to edit and it was just to hard to find good stuff to makes edits with her original FC.

I’m one of those people who writes with my entire music library on shuffle so there’s probably some crossovers from my favourite songs but not inspired exactly no.

28. Your most dangerous OC? 

Definitely Gabriel, there’s nothing more dangerous than a man with no morals, he’s the true definition of beast when it comes to werewolves.

Pretty much all of them... they’re all pretty much lone birds if you know what I mean.

I wanna say Gabriel because it’s just too funny but probably more like Frankie, she wants to be mature but she’s just a small child inside.

Gabriel is paired with Eleanora.

Valentina is paired with Oliver Queen.

Frankie is paired with Jughead Jones and becomes friends with the gang. Sister to Ben.

Ben is paired with Ms. Grundy and is friends with FP. Brother to Frankie.

Mika is paired with Stiles and Derek and Friends with Jackson.

37. Introduce an OC who is not quite human 

Mika is a talented spark and emissary from England that is a member of the pack Jackson ends up in. She meets Stiles through Jackson and then Derek through Stiles. She’s a fun loving but no nonsense when it comes to magic kind of girl.

38. Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer? 

Valentina is very good on her feet and could whisk you away ballroom style.

39. Introduce any character you want 

Valentina has climbed the ranks of the Bratva for the past five years. All without a care about what Oliver Queen had been doing since their last meeting. The last time they spoke one of them was laying on the ground bloody and beaten and the other stared coldly down. 

She had been 20 at the time and full of rage and a need for revenge. Now when Church is busy destroying Star City the Bratva bring in their best enforcer and assassin to take him down. Her mission is to strengthen their holdings in the city and it’s not long before she runs into it’s new Mayor.

Seeing her again brings up questions for Oliver and gives his new team more reasons to question his methods. But can he stop her from adding another name to her ever growing list of regrets? Or is she too well trained by the Bratva for even Oliver to stop her when she gets her target.

The fact that Nora is basically the reason I’ve gotten to meet all you amazing people, love ya.
