finally managed to settle on a grian design that i quite like:

and i also scraped together a watcher design, or the closest thing he can be to full watcher without being in the voids:

not sure if i'm 100% happy with the watcher look, but it's good enough for now and i'm happy when i look at it so like-

Eyes and Ears AU headcanon

I know Martyn said that when the Lifers are not in a death game, they are just falling in the void - nobody can reach them or talk to them, they just exist.

Additionally, each time they lose a death game, the lifers fracture a bit. Sometimes lifers are missing from games because they are too fractured to continue.

I have an image in my head that I've tried drawing several times that I can't get down for some reason.

I headcanon that Grian and the other watchers can see the lifers as they are in the void, and in that, they can see the fractures.

Several times, I've tried drawing Grian finding a very heavily fractured Mumbo...and the headcanon is that Grian is the one that tucks them away so they can avoid the games and heal before they get brought back. He can pick out which lifers are more fragile and fractured and hides them...somewhere. Grian is the reason why some of the lifers aren't in certain series; he's the one keeping them from breaking too much.
