Lately it was translated in English a light novel from 2007 called ''Kuradashi-hen'' with content that Ryukishi wrote originally for the VN but then it was discarded/changed. The parts I found more interesting: • Satoshi's original personality was ''cool'' and ''down-to-earth'', he was supposed to be a transfer student from Hinamizawa school to Okinomiya Middle School, in the same class as Shion, that should have been their first meeting; he also would have known since the start her true identity. I actually don't really like his ''original'' personality, I prefer how Ryukishi changed it, it also fits more Satoko and Rika's description of him back to Tatarigoroshi! ''What's more note worthy is Satoshi's characterization. …What can I say…? This cool and down-to earth Satoshi who'd interrupt to say "shut up Shion" is completely different from the Satoshi we have today. I think I'd like to salvage this rejected version of Satoshi and reuse him in a future work. This Satoshi might make a rather nice Satoshi. Even this type of Satoshi would get Shion's heart racing. (bitter smile)'' I also prefer how they met in the version we know 💝 But I like that here Satoshi has knows Shion's true identity since the start. It's also written ''First off, Shion isn't at St. Lucia Academy. She's attending a school in Okinomiya here'' so I'm not sure if it means that Shion originally wasn't supposed to be sent to that school but just kept secretly in Okinomiya (because Satoshi had no clue about Shion's existence until their meeting here)...? • Originally, when Oiishi tells Shion about Satoshi's disappeareance, she was already supposed to have ''homicidal' thoughts toward the people she thought were behind it ''This Fragment is from a scene at the police station, where Ooishi is breaking the news about Satoshi's disappearance. Her beloved going missing has caused Shion's world to collapse, and little by little she seems to slip into a vivid psychological coma. In the main story, there's a scene where Kimiyoshi says something like 'That Houjou brat deserved to be cursed…' that leads to a similar collapse. I recall wanting to make a large impact around that part of the story, so I decided it was too early to have a development like this, and cut it back.'' I think it was better it was changed because I think it was too early for Shion to have such thoughts and it makes more sense for them to act like when she's going L5 later in the story, considering how they are descripted. • Shion originally was supposed to not commit suicide in Tatarigoroshi's ending and to help Keiichi's to recover: I actually already made already a post about this some times ago I guess Ryukishi wanted Tatarigoroshi to have a more tragic ending, as the arc itself wasn't already tragic enough, so...but considering how hard it would have been for them to go on with the awareness they lost almost of all their beloved ones, maybe it was better that way. • In Minagoroshi the player was supposed to choose if to make Rika to suggest to Keiichi who to give the doll or just to watch. If you would have chosed the second option, he would have given it to Rena and it would have led to a Watanagashi/Meakashi bad ending. Even though Shion's is Satoko's nee-nee there, I wonder if she would have still killed her too or spared her instead? I read that in the console version it was still included the fact you could choose but not matter what you choose, Keiichi will still give the doll to Mion; actually, if you choose to make Rika to try to talk to Keiichi before he makes the decision, he kind of says he already knows what to do. I honestly prefer it was changed, Keiichi giving the doll of Mion on his own, not because Rika tells him to do so, it's really meaningful.

• In Minagoroshi originally Teppei wasn't supposed to be arrested immediately, but somehow he would have been able to escape to Okinomiya. Of course the club doesn't give up on him. "We saved Satoko. …But from here on it's different. We'll make sure he gets what he deserves for forcing all that hard work on Satoko. Let's teach him the high price of messing with our friend." Along with the Sonozaki family and Akasaka, they are able to catch and to deal with him. "…So you're that scumbag Teppei? We meet at last." "Who the hell are you?!" "I've come to pay you back for doing such a fantastic job with Satoko!!" I would have liked to see the club dealing directly with him, but I think that for Akasaka, it's better to have his moment in Matsuribayashi.
''Rika-chan...I came to save you.''

I do like the thematic consistency in every beginning arc of Higurashi...and I think it's interesting the way that shows up in Watanagashi-hen. I think the underlying theme is transsexuality, I just don't think it was intentional, but simply something that naturally happens when gender is discussed.
I do believe the story tries to trick you into thinking that Mion goes on a murderous spree for superficial false reasonsth (the same for Rena's arc). In Mion's case, the false reasons are that she's hurt by Keiichi's rejection, because it means that he does not see her as a Woman aka a romantic option, since she's too masculine or whatever. She's a dark twist on a character trope (secretly feminine tomboy), just like the other girls. Even if this reason reinforces that it is better for people to be seen as their birth gender, I still think Mion's "yandere" trait is on theme with transsexuality. I think of the violence and desperation to upkeep cishetero norms. In the same vein, I do think the concept of the family is necessary in keeping transsexuality oppressed, so it is on theme for Mion's killings to follow traditional values (traditional ceremony of cannibalism) and for her character to be so preoccupied with her violent family. I believe this is less far-fetched because Higurashi already discusses domestic abuse, and Ryukishi07 explores it even further in other novels like Umineko. The author is aware of how gender norms relate to the family

Mion Sonozaki from Higurashi: When They Cry
Tumblr media
Reasoning: listen we all know the whole wanting keiichi to "see me as a girl" was more abt him wanting to be seen as romantically available bc he was scared keiichi's "you're just one of the bros" thing was giving off no-homo vibes. passing himself off as shion was just an excuse to get to flirt w/ keiichi w/o worrying abt his tomboyishness scaring him off (+initially to avoid the humiliation of getting caught at work in a skimpy maid outfit)(also Interesting to note mion's idea of acting more girly is to just imitate his twin sister lmao). *spoiler warning* like tbf i don't think transition would necessarily Save Him from getting. tortured & murdered by shion in watanagashi/meakashi hen or anything, but like. it might make it harder for for her to get away w/ imitating him if he had come out in private to his friends, ESPECIALLY to someone like rena. tl;dr he literally says shit like "i shouldve been born a boy" this one is such a slam dunk. thank u for ur consideration 🙏

"If two died from Oyashiro-sama's curse, then two sacrifices would be needed to calm Oyashiro-sama. I don't think anyone has gone missing yet. I think two people will disappear soon." Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Watanagashi-hen (2006)

Just to talk shade about the studio DEEN adaptation for like a few seconds, Tsumihoroboshi-hen being the last arc of the first season before Kai is so funny.
Like damn who could the villain be? Is it the woman who told Rena that aliens were invading earth in the most menacing way possible who also was driving back with a shovel in her car the night before the Watanagashi festival? Who could say

#9. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Tatarigoroshi-hen
Tumblr media
oh my god this is the hypest shit ever. this ruled. this is SOOOOOOOO much better than onikakushi and watanagashi. tatarigoroshi really feels like ryukishi starting to cook with the settings + characters + mystery. this episode in general is very willing to break away from the established formula in a way watanagashi wasnt by having the horrors start hitting well before the festival and also being willing to cut away when the club starts yet another fucking board game lol
higurashi kind of permanently lives in the shadow of "this work lead to umineko, which i think is one of the best novels ever written" so a lot of the moments i really like, i like in the context of it being an inception point or the first traces of content found in umineko. not to say it doesnt stand on its own but so much of the mystery in this episode is like oh fuck this is just like how people perpetuate beatrice on rokkenjima. this imagery is just like magic. etc

honestly I still to this day choose to believe that Keiichi actually was killed by the vengeful spirit of Shion at the end of Watanagashi-hen, just because it's so tonally perfect for that specific arc

PRELIMINARY POLL 3
MEET THE COMPETITORS:
Prismo(Adventure Time) "Prismo is a Wish Master who is the manifestation of an old man's dream. He resides in the Time Room, which exists in the center of the multiverse. Booko describes him as "almighty." Prismo is apparently good friends with a number of cosmic-level characters in the Adventure Time universe, including the Cosmic Owl, Party God, Death, and Grob Gob Glob Grod, all of whom were seen at one of his Time Room parties."
Santa Perla(Empires SMP) "Saint Pearl is a deity whom Oli briefly met in her heavenly palace in the earliest events of Empires SMP 2. Throughout Afterlife SMP, Pearl was worshiped by the Church of St. Pearl and championed by Mythical Sausage, who ultimately rejoined her in the heavens."
Them(Don’t Starve Together) ""They" are a mysterious force in the lore of Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together. Their identities are unknown, but they seem to be beings with a very powerful influence over the Constant and its inhabitants. Their goals are unknown, but it involves kidnapping individuals from the real world and forcing them to survive a parallel dimension, as well as selecting certain survivors to rule upon the Nightmare Throne. Alter, which is a giant looming eye in the sky, was identified as "Them" or at least one of "Them". The name Alter has previously been mentioned by Maxwell in the quotes for the Ancient Lunarune Stones and in the Celestial Champion's spawn code. The surface of Alter is covered with a rocky shell, as it was previously thought to be the "Moon"."
The Small and Forgotten Gods(Wanderhome) "The Small and Forgotten Gods of Wanderhome are tiny nature spirits that get overlooked or forgotten. They take on a wide variety of forms based on where they live, and range in size from a mote of dust to ~6in."
Hanyū Furude(Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni) "Furude Hanyū, usually simply Hanyū, is one of the main characters in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series, and the true identity of Oyashiro-sama. She is a goddess that appears in Minagoroshi-hen and beyond. Hanyū's past is shrouded in mystery, but she has referred to herself as a demon who became a goddess after she was sacrificed at a true Watanagashi ceremony centuries past to atone for the sins of others. She is also a sort of guardian angel to her descendant, Furude Rika, whom she has followed since birth."
Willow Rosenberg(Buffy the Vampire Slayer) "Willow Danielle Rosenberg was a witch native to Sunnydale, California, a founding member of the Scooby Gang, and the best friend and semi-official sidekick of the Slayer, Buffy Summers. Willow started out as a shy computer nerd, eventually developing her talents to become a powerful and assertive witch. Milestones in her magical career include the enjoining spell, taking on the hell-goddess Glory and surviving, resurrecting Buffy, nearly ending the world, activating multiple Potential Slayers, and, eventually, establishing herself as Earth's greatest witch. During her fight against Amy, she referred to Willow as a "big all-powerful earth mother witch goddess.""
