So I finished RoW yesterday and will start WaT tomorrow. I am very nervous because minor cosmere implications that seem to exist. This is my first piece of the cosmere so we'll see where I go next year. That is not the point however-

The point is that I know I have a habit of flipping forward in bigger books. Anything over lets say 600 pages is bound to have slow parts that send my stupid little brain into screaming "Bored!" and urging me to just look at like one page near the end. Or maybe three.

I thought I would win against this by binder clipping or rubber banding each part of the book - as Stormlight has been a five part with interludes formula.

*incorrect buzzer noise*

I open the book to read the dedication and the table of contents. And Sanderson has split this book into each of the 10 days with mixed in interludes. (and an epilogue and a POSTLUDE which Worries me).

I guess I can split it into thirds rubber banded and then binderclip the shit out of that 10th day and later so I don't ruin it for myself.

Anyway. Happy reading to me. This is the first book I read without any incidental spoilers and I'm glad but also miss my safety blanket knowledge of who makes it.

Hey, Cosmere fandom!

A friend recently introduced me to Music League, and I thought it would be a fun way to collectively make a MEGA-PLAYLIST as a countdown to Wind and Truth.

Here's how it works:

Signing up for the site requires a Spotify account. Please note that your Spotify username will be visible to all other players and will be used in chat, so make sure this is something you are comfortable with!

Everyone submits one song per theme. Once everyone has submitted, the site generates a playlist of songs for that theme, and we get to listen!

Vote for your favorites, and once all the votes are in, see which songs were most loved. You have the option to add comments with your votes, too.

I have this set up with one theme per week, with song submissions ending Saturdays, until the book comes out. Right now it is as big as possible (up to 100 participants allowed) and everyone gets 25 upvotes per round. Joining is first-come, first-served, but if this league fills up and you want to copy it, please feel free.

To make this a good experience, a few ground rules please:

If you are reading the pre-release WaT chapters, no spoilers in comments and chat.

No joke or negative submissions (though humor is encouraged for the final 'bonus round'). Mostly, this means no 'fuck Moash' submissions. This is about positive hype!

Similarly, I turned off downvotes for a reason. If you don't care for a song, keep that to yourself and just upvote the ones you like better.

“From Gifts to Grace: Reminiscing and Rediscovering Christmas”

I love Christmas, like really.

It might sound cliché, and you probably hear most people say that Christmas is their favorite holiday and that it’s the “most wonderful time of the year,” but I really think Christmas is worth its hype. Truly, I have always cherished Christmas within my mind, heart, and soul.

Lights surrounded the gates, the green wreath hung on the door, and the Christmas tree used to be up in the corner of the house by September, lasting up to April of the following year. Sometimes we wanted to keep the Christmas vibe a little longer, but often, it was just because we were too lazy to take it down. My family never skipped Christmas; we always treated it as one of the most awaited times of the year. Whether it was a simple celebration or a whole party, Christmas was well acknowledged by us.

One evening in September of the 2000s, we were at my grandmother’s home when one of my titas suggested we start decorating for Christmas. My titas are usually only home on weekends because of work, but they were there that time. We were all sitting in the family room when my lola took out a huge bag from the attic and placed it in the middle of the room. She opened the bag, and inside were smaller bags filled with Christmas balls of different colors and ribbons for the Christmas tree. Another huge bag, double the size, was brought down, and inside was the Christmas tree we’d had for almost a decade. I wanted to help set it up, so I started separating the branches of the tree. My cousins were just as excited as I was about assembling the tree, so we all helped our lola. Arranging the Christmas balls on the tree was actually treated as a challenge for us; we wanted to make sure that the tree looked aesthetically pleasing since my family were “perfectionists.” We made sure the colors didn’t clash and the sizes were properly arranged. When we were satisfied with how the tree looked, we put it up on a stool and turned on its lights. By the end of that September evening, the Christmas spirit was already starting to fill our home.

The Christmas tree, along with the other house decorations, is not a need or a must for celebrating Christmas. But for us—or for me, perhaps—it holds huge significance in creating the atmosphere and helping people visualize the presence of Christmas. It’s not just a tree; it symbolizes the family’s outlook on Christmas. By setting up decorations, the importance of the season for the family is reflected.

The pre-Christmas experience of that year was already nostalgic—what more when December arrived. December 1, I remember the excitement I felt as a kid. Knowing that I’d been counting down with the TV Patrol countdown of “100 days nalang, pasko na!” I was beyond thrilled to hear “25 days na lang, Pasko na!” on TV. Besides counting down to Christmas, I was also counting down to my birthday. On December 10, before we reached Christmas, we celebrated my birthday. After that, the excitement for Christmas continued.

Exchanging gifts has been a family tradition ever since. I always helped my mother think of gifts for our family. December 24, we usually crammed the gift-buying into the day before Christmas. Although we have a different approach to Christmas now, I remember playing with my cousins outside the house at that time and leaving the gift-buying job to my mother. Christmas Eve has always been exciting, especially as the space under the Christmas tree slowly fills with presents. Since then, my lola’s house has usually been the venue for our Christmas celebration, where our extended family gathers together. As people started to arrive, the excitement of the evening grew. Jolly Christmas music played, usually songs by Sir Jose Mari Chan, while we waited for the lechon to cook, turning on top of the hot embers. Speaking of lechon, I remember watching it cook and how the smoke always blew in our direction, no matter where we moved, as if it were following us. By the time the lechon was done, our eyes were red and teary. When everything was prepared, everyone gathered and settled together in one area. My little kid self could be seen waiting eagerly to open the gifts under the tree. It’s funny to remember how sad I would feel when the adults said we should eat first before opening gifts to pass the time while waiting for the clock to hit 12 am. I can vividly remember our pastor stopping by to share a message about Christmas, its essence, and the reason behind this holiday.

Do you know the essence and real reason behind Christmas? In past years, I have gathered knowledge that shaped my perspective on this season. It’s a season of giving, joy, serenity, wholesomeness, love, and most importantly, a time to honor the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Though I do not believe that He was born exactly on December 25, I take this season as a way to celebrate His birth. Not just during this season, though—every day should be a celebration of Christ’s birth. The little things like gifts, the Christmas tree, the food, and the gatherings are symbols and reflections of the essence of this holiday, and each little thing contributes to the specialness of Christmas. But even without these things, Christmas can still be just as special when you know the reason behind it and celebrate it with love and contentment, knowing that Jesus is behind every amazing thing in this world. The most wonderful time of the year, the season of giving, the awaited holiday that everyone around the globe celebrates—Christmas. Yet “Christmas” will never exist without Christ.

December 25, “Merry Christmas!” everyone greets each other as the clock strikes 12 am. The younger me, excited to open presents from my family, smiles as she receives her gifts. Now, though, I no longer feel the same excitement about gifts, decor, and food. You could say that Christmas wouldn’t feel as special anymore because of this, but it’s actually the opposite now that I know Jesus is the reason behind my Christmas.

Reminiscing about the past with gifts, a Christmas tree, and big celebrations may still happen, but I will continue moving forward with a different perspective, with Christ at the heart of my Christmas.

Chapter 8 of Countdown. Jax starts to question his decisions

Jax sat smoking in his backyard barely acknowledging Chibs as he sat in a chair next to him. Jax had so much on his mind and was drowning trying to keep everyone safe and happy. So far he seemed to be doing the safe thing but was helplessly failing at keeping everyone happy.

"You hear to tell me I suck too and you hate my guts?" inquired Jax as he finally looked over at Chibs. "No one hates you or thinks you suck. Things are rough right now and everyone's emotions are heightened." stated Chibs firmly. "You had no idea that Juice was going to get hurt like that" he added as he thought back on the incident a couple days prior where the kid had been jumped by members of the Aryan Brotherhood and left for dead on the side of the road. Thankfully they had gotten to him in time.

"Clay unpatched him and green lit him. I gotta get him out of here. Rocky would never forgive me if I don't....not that it matters since I'm still getting radio silence from her as it is." stated Jax as he tossed his cigarette butt before rubbing his face. "Jesus" muttered Chibs as he sat back in the chair. he knew Clay had called Jax earlier but hadn't expected this.

"Am I making any of the right choices? Like should I have sent her away? Should I be trying to take back the club? Should I have prospected Juice? Like is it really so bad for Rocky to be married off against her will?" Jax rambled on as he stood up pacing . "Laddie" stated Chibs as he watched Jax. "Nonsense is wat I call that. Ye know you have done the right thing. Don't beat yerself up" continued Chibs.

"Lets focus on one thing at a time. First thing is getting Juice out of Charming" stated Chibs as he caught Jax's arm stopping his wild pacing. Jax simply nodded as he collapsed back in his chair. "Maybe I can make two people a bit happier" he mumbled as he took his phone out and scrolled to Bishops name.

"Where are we going?" asked Juice as Jax turned the van out onto the highway instead of towards home after picking him up from the hospital. "I'm getting you somewhere safe for a bit" replied Jax.

This is a collage of all the countdown pieces I've done and I hope you enjoy the journey and brace the ending!

It's really a looong ride and I've been following the series and doing fanworks for over a decade. It's just incredible to see the first arc come to an end!

Well, this is absolutely the fandom where I've stayed the longest. The series has been with me from college, through grad school, and into my career as an editor. It helped me through my toughest times and even led me to become its translator. Dreamt last night that tumblr had instituted something called Tumblr Enemies. For a small fee, instead of just blocking a user, you could send them a notice that you were now Enemies.
