Pretty little noisy canyon wren caught my eye. . It was hopping around and between cracks in some columnar basalt. And occasionally darting to a different outcrop but wasn't too shy so I was able to get some nice close-ups. . Maybe some birdest will correct me and say it's a rock wren. That's what I thought when I was out watching it, but when I looked at the pictures on my computer and did some reading online, I decided it was a canyon wren. . #wren #rockwren #canyonwren #wrens #birdworld #ebird #birdphotos #housewren #birdphotography #yourbestbirds #birdsofinsta #bestbirdshots #birdphoto #birder #washingtonaudubon #birdsonearth #bird_brilliance #birdsofig #washingtonbirds #centralcascades #allaboutbirds #centralwashington @ncwaudubon @audubonsociety @bird_brilliance @team_ebird @cornellbirds (at Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRk54LXArp6/?utm_medium=tumblr

Maybe a Western Wood-Pewee There are a bunch of little flycatchers that all look the same to a neophyte birdzoid such as myself. . Anyway, bird bird, blah blah. I was highly restrained and only shared 9 photos of the same bird instead of 10. It's critical that you observe it looking in various different directions with a couple slightly differing backgrounds. If not, it could alter the timeline in unforseeable ways leading to a catastrophic season finale event. For example, maybe in the alternative timeline, I shared only 8 photos and having not seen the one where the bird looks slightly down and to the right, you saw the same bird and desperately wanted to see it look down and to the right. So much so that you leaned too far over the bridge and fell in the water. Don't worry, you're ok, but you never ended up taking your grandchild to that spot because you'd had that unpleasant incident. So long story short, your grandchild never ends up curing the 2070 bird flu that wipes out all birds on earth and most humans. Don't even ask what happens in the alternative timeline when I post 10 photos of this bird. Just trust me and thank your bird-god that I posted 9 and life as we know it remains intact. . . . #flycatcher #flycatchers #westernwoodpewee #woodpewee #pewee #willowflycatcher #tyrantflycatcher #tyrantflycatchers #tyrannidae #birdzoid #birdwatchingphotography #washingtonaudubon #washingtonstate #birdwatching #birding (at Icicle Gorge, Leavenworth, Wa) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQMUAQCAgVk/?utm_medium=tumblr

Beautiful little Cassin's finches hanging out at the bird feeder. . It's interesting how different male and female birds look sometimes. The plainer bird is a female Cassin's finch. . I put out a couple bird feeders since I've been home working so much and it's actually been such a source of joy. Obviously, I like birds, but I've never put out feeders before. For like a week the birds ignored it, but it's buzzing with action now. . Oh, and by the way, don't call her plain. As if there's anything wrong with being plain. I bet that bright purple male is more likely to get eaten than her. . Other birds at the feeder this week have included other finches, pine siskin, a towhee, a hummingbird that nearly crashed into my face, I think just coming to see what all the other birds were fussing about, and some sort of little sparrows I didn't get a look at. However, the hairy woodpecker hasn't been back by. . . . #finch #finches #cassinsfinch #purplefinch #housefinch #birdwatching #birdwatchingphotography #allaboutbirds #merlinbirdid @team_ebird @cornellbirds @ncwaudubon #washingtonaudubon #birdsofinsta @audubonsociety #birdsofpnw #pnw #pnwbirds #washingtonbirds (at Wenatchee, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQKh3fSAwMv/?utm_medium=tumblr

Icicle Gorge near Leavenworth, WA. . These were taken along the icicle Gorge trail. It's a very pretty walk along the river. Thanks for suggesting the hike @thewenatcheeriverinstitute . These couple wildflower pictures didn't work out exactly how I imagined, but hopefully still pretty. . I wanted both the mountains and the flowers bigger in the frame but sort of compromised with a focal length that is the sort of compromise where both lose. I think I'd like it either wider and closer to the flowers or to try to find an angle where I could zoom in on the mountains and at least get some colorful out of focus flowers in the foreground. . It's better just to find flowers closer to the mountains, I guess. However, even when we'll executed, it's not that unique of a picture. I guess that's why I try it opportunistically, but I'm not that crazy about landscape photos... In fact, I'm sure you can easily find a better photo of this same spot. Conversely, I find every animal and their behavior captivating and unique and am happy to share a deer pic against the millions of other deer pics already out there. . . . #leavenworthwashington #leavenworth #iciclecreek #iciclegorge #iciclegorgetrail #wildflowerseason #wildflowers #wildflower #lupine #indianpaintbrush #yarrow #washingtonstate #washingtonexplored #washingtontrails #wta #washingtonaudubon #leavenworthwa (at Icicle Gorge) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQCUr1ag5g7/?utm_medium=tumblr

Not sure about the ID, but maybe a harlequin duckling. . I saw one other yellow duckling but didn't get a photo. Didn't see any adult ducks of any sort in the vicinity. . When I arrived there was a couple and a dog nearby, so maybe they scared the mother off. I noticed the duckling after they left. It was sort of pacing around and then slid down a rock and I couldn't tell if it went in the rushing river or hid in the rocks. In either case, I figured it was best to leave and let it be. . In retrospect, I'm sure the mother was hiding nearby. I've never seen a harlequin before, so maybe I'll head back to this area again soon to try to spot one. . . . #harlequin #harlequinduck #harlequinducks #harlequinducklings #ducklings #duckling #babyanimal #babyanimals #cuteanimalshot #cuteanimals #chick #washington #washingtonwildlife #washingtonaudubon #leavenworth #leavenworthwashington (at Leavenworth, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPe8QtfA6yJ/?utm_medium=tumblr

Experimenting with another edit since people (ok, me) liked that previous monchrome image.I wanted to try something similar with a backlit image. . I think it's kind of cool, but might work better on a bird with a more unique profile or maybe its's the pose... . Anyway, what do you think between image one and two here? . Maybe I'm just dragging out this content, lol. Between heat waves, wildfires, bad air quality, and work, I'm not getting many pictures even when I do get out and generally having low energy. One thing I'm struggling with is not having a strong break between work and not work since I'm just sitting at the computer most the time. Usually going out for a hike provides that break, but I think with the heat, smoke, and my low energy, I haven't gotten a good dose of nature in a while and so I just have this lingering depleted feeling. . Hopefully I'll snap out of it soon. Maybe I'll make an overnight trip out to the coast this weekend and try to see some good birds. One time during my masters, I got a gig as an assistant for an or ornithology field trip. We drove and rode ferries all around the San Juan islands and saw lots of cool birds including puffins. I've never been back to any of those spots. It just feels kind of weird to take a trip like that when I'm already moving somewhere new every couple months but Wenatchee is farther from everything I want to see than I realized. . . . #baldeaglelover #baldeaglephotography #baldeagle #baldeagles #baldeaglesofinstagram #juvenilebaldeagle #wawildlife #washingtonwildlife #elite_raptors #eagle #eagles #featured_wildlife #feather_perfection #eagles_of_insta #bird_brilliance #planetbirds #birdstagram #your_best_birds #wildlifeplanet #wildlife #wildlifephotography #eaglelover #washingtonaudubon #washingtonbirds #birds_adored #canonusa #tamron150600g2 #birdlovers . @tamronusa @ncwaudubon @waparkswildlife @visitwenatchee @wenatcheeworld @wastatepks @elite_raptors @canonusa (at Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRUu2V_r7hX/?utm_medium=tumblr

Juvenile bald eagle at Horan Natural Area in Wenatchee, Washington. . I was looking for the resident moose, but I'll take it! . Anyway, as mentioned that n a short video that I just posted, I've been experimenting with some camera matching profiles for Lightroom by @will_goodlet and noticed that the monochrome profile he included to make skies dark looked amazing. This is an edit I'd have never thought to try on my own and rarely do monochrome edits but I really love the look. . Also, I don't know Will or anything (although I watch his videos on YouTube) and I'm not out to promote his products but I did think it was worth giving the guy credit because I really like this edit a lot and barely made any changes beyond applying his profile. So if you shoot with the R5 or R6 and don't like how Lightroom is processing your RAW files, I do think they're worth checking out. . . . #baldeaglelover #baldeaglephotography #baldeagle #baldeagles #baldeaglesofinstagram #juvenilebaldeagle #wawildlife #washingtonwildlife #elite_raptors #eagle #eagles #featured_wildlife #feather_perfection #eagles_of_insta #bird_brilliance #planetbirds #birdstagram #your_best_birds #wildlifeplanet #wildlife #wildlifephotography #eaglelover #washingtonaudubon #washingtonbirds #birds_adored #canonusa #tamron150600g2 #birdlovers . @tamronusa @ncwaudubon @waparkswildlife @visitwenatchee @wenatcheeworld @wastatepks @elite_raptors @canonusa (at Wenatchee, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRP9wLtAcam/?utm_medium=tumblr
