Luck's head swayed to the side, larimar eyes glimmering with something more beneath them, wild golden locks obscuring parts of his face. He let his knees inch away from his chest and loosely unfold the perfect cocoon he was wrapped in, elbows and forearms resting against his legs, hands playing with the white drawstrings of his baggy teal hoodie.

He curled the snowy thread around his finger, flipped it over, pulled it up and down, methodically twisted it - he ran his hand through a million-and-one different motions all within seconds. The air grew heavy with his quietness, a stark, uncomfortable contrast to the strings of words and teases that usually slipped nonstop from the live wire.

To the other, the silence was nothing short of unbearable and nigh deafening. But he waited. He waited, and watched as Luck's lips scrunched to the side - the rare indicator of him biting the inside of his cheek, deep in thought or consideration. An infrequent habit Luck had formed back when words were all too much, all too-consuming and demanding; somedays, it still felt that way.

Then, after what felt like hours but couldn't have been longer than a minute, it came. A quiet, hesitant word, a knife that cut through the thickened space between them;

"Why?"

And, well, that was a loaded question.

It was one word. Simple, short, and plain--except nothing really, truthfully was simple or plain with Luck. It just liked to appear that way on the surface; a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing. Presented problems and looming shadows hidden behind tied ribbons and drawn curtains - a thousand spiraling thoughts dismissed with the same old intricate smile.

But behind it came all the possibilities. All the individual branches of why, all muddled by past experience or an assumption of what was inevitably to happen. And Magna had some solid guesses for most of them.

Why don't you hate me? Why do you keep staying? Why haven't you left already? Why are you here? Why haven't you given up on me? Why aren't you like everybody else?

If there were ever a time and a place for it, Magna would fire back some of his own - why do you always think I'm going to leave your ass? Why is it like you can't believe I give a shit about you? Why do you always act like I'm going to disappear the second you take your eyes off me?

Though if there was one, it certainly wasn't now. Not when Luck was hunched up like this, curled in as if he had to hold himself together by force, a thread dangerously close to snapping; not when Magna was sitting quietly on the end of his bed, hands stationary and sunglasses idly placed upon the bedpost; not when the world was abandoned outside the boarded window, friends and adventures temporarily forgotten to dwell in the pit of a barren self-perceived internal wasteland.

So, instead, he sighed and ran a hand through his hair, shoulders rising and falling to expel the weight of the situation from him. He let the words of what to say bubble up in his chest, head desperately reeling to find the right ones. Damn you, he'd curse in his head.

Honestly, yeah, damn Luck. Damn him and his ability to make Magna think of all these things, to make his world more than just a stage play-by-play that he wasn't even the protagonist of. Damn Luck and the way he gave everything he did and said some kind of meaning; gave his life a meaning beyond the repetitive simplicity of school, baseball, video games, and friends. Damn Luck and his addictive smiles that lit up a room, that made Magna's own chest overfill with puddy-like euphoria, that made Magna crave the sound of his laughter and the sight of his joy more than anything else. Damn Luck for making him want to be something more than what he simply was born as, to be something to Luck, like a backboard one could lean on.

Damn Luck for making him a better man. Completely fuck that guy, really.

But, as much as he loathed to admit, he'd go through this routine. Again, and again, and again; the disc tirelessly on loop, never-ending repetition that, unlike all else, unlike every other boring monotonous humdrum aspect of the day or week, never seemed to grow dull. Maybe that was Luck's fault. Maybe there were scratches on the CD, or maybe there was a malfunction on the player--but it was their own special tune, expertly crafted by whatever this hell of a life had in store.

He'd commit to this, for however many times Luck needed him; needed the gentle (or not-so-gentle) reminder that he was loved, cared for, worried about, whatever else. Even if his own brain refused to believe it, partly refused to even dare to let himself have it, Magna wasn't about to back down and let him win this one. He'd done enough of letting things go unseen, unspoken, and left stowed beneath poorly painted-over cracks when they were kids. And now he'd spend a lifetime trying to unravel all of this mess; trying to understand his problems, rather than demand them to be fixed. If that meant soggy shoulders, empty pudding containers, and conveniently misplaced jackets, then Magna could cope with that.

Because that's what you do for someone you love, no matter how big a pain in the ass they are.

Finally cleaning up my socials! If you're wondering why my account is so barren at the moment, there's some more info about my 2025 resolutions and how I plan to use this site going forward under the cut (cross-posted from Bluesky/IG).

With 2024 over, I find myself looking back on what I've accomplished. I'm disappointed since I didn't wind up doing very much at all last year! My creative output was at an all-time low, and even when I DID make new artwork, I couldn't bring myself to share it due to the advent of AI.

I want to protect my work and promote myself harder this year. I didn't land a single freelance gig in 2024, and while social media is partially to blame, I also refused to advertise myself. I'm amazed that I gained as many Bluesky followers as I did, considering how much I've neglected this space! 😭

Since I didn't go to any cons in 2024, I also didn't make a lot of new merch. My financials are looking a little scarce going into 2025, so I might put less of a focus on making merch in general in order to downsize. I'm also thinking of closing my Big Cartel soon—but my Etsy will still be around!

With that said, I wanted to say thanks to everyone who supported me in 2024 despite it being a rather lackluster year in terms of productivity. 2024 was difficult due to these compounding issues PLUS the fact that my hours were cut at my job, so every follow/share/shop order truly means the world to me! 🙏

I plan to start fresh on all of my social platforms, but in the event that new work opportunities don't pan out for me, then I may consider opening commissions this year. Please be on the lookout in case that's something you may be interested in, and I hope that 2025 will be kinder to all of us! 💖

probably the most explicitly romantic and the most explicitly toxic. They DO love each other a lot. Jimmy looks up to Scott (he's so cool!) and would do anything just to live a happy life with him. I imagine that he's had a crush on him for the longest time from a distance, but didn't approach him until 3L because he didn't think Scott would look in his direction. Scott loves Jimmy deeply too but in the way someone might love a pet or a toy. "How's this poor thing going to survive on his own?" is probably what he uses to justify alot of what he puts Jimmy through. I imagine that Scott is someone who's lived a very monitored and controlled life (he gives me royalty vibes) and probably doesn't understand the extent of the abuse he's been put through or the way it's warped his perception of love. Love is a conditional commodity for him at this point in 3L and right now he's using it to buy some protection (never a good idea to go solo in a death game arena). So everytime he scolds or hits Jimmy it's always out of love, always for his own good, if he doesn't learn how to act now then someone will kill him for running his mouth eventually. Especially in the 3L Death Game. And Jimmy puts up with it and believes him because he hasn't learnt to respect himself yet. But as the games go on I do believe Scott begins to fall for Jimmy in a more genuine, kind way. Still not wholesome but he's very much not just extra numbers for safety anymore. He feels scorching regret for what he did after Jimmy dies but won't admit it to himself or anyone else. It's a selfish kind of regret, he hates himself more than he loves Jimmy, but it's still there. Post-3L Jimmy has some time away from Scott during LL before meeting Tango in DL, a partner who respects and even admires him, who gives him the space to grow and the trust to take risks that would better the both of them. Jimmy gains newfound confidence and a new perspective on his previous relationships, culminating in him actually standing up to Scott in LimL and refusing his offer to get back together. He's grown up. Scott, on the other hand, fares much more poorly. He is offered genuine love, unconditional love and it frightens him because he can't understand it (he doesn't think he's love-able). What does she want from him? He can't control Pearl the way he could with Jimmy and she Scares him. It doesn't matter, he can manage by himself (he always has) and he has an eye for finding kindred spirits. But it's not the same (he misses him). (he needs his Pet back) (he needs his Control back) He doesn't get it. final diagnosis: what should have been a beautiful love story twisted into something awful, divorced and should not re-marry even if Scott wants to.

ngl there is that.. little part of me that really wants jimmy to relapse and go crawling back cus old habits die hard, right? but on the other hand i. i want my son to be happy. sometimes.

I like writing characters with super messed up warped perceptions of love and hurt themselves and others in the process with it. its evil and sexy.

if we're gonna get into the whole song lyrics thing i really really love using mahiru's milgram songs for fh (even tho i associate scott more with muu). they just make sense to me. lyrics from haruko because i adore their covers.

I just... i think scott genuinely caring for jimmy and wanting to keep him safe but like.. scott's brand of 'safe' is guard up at all times and manipulating those around you. and jimmy's useless at it/doesn't even catch on at all and it just ends up frustrating scott more.

New Month! New (Last?) Shirt Post!

Our favorite baby girl is back for our fashion analysis of... Does Calam really own TWO white shirts? I think our boy has indeed taken the plunge on a 2nd shirt.

In May of 2022, our lil' boo wore these rounded toe boots 🥾 that really shorten the leg visually (which is why a pointier shoe is better, but I digress as I have a personal vendetta against smelly steel-toed work boots). We can see here that our broad shouldered, snack illustrious actor is a lean, mean ��� soccer football machine. It is a slim cut that's close to the body.

Let's flash forward to the recent Archie panel premiere in November 2023. As you may have noticed, our baby girl has bulked up (what is in his cereal?! And is he still baby girl whilst turning the dirty thirty this year?!).

If you have better pics, please send my way, but if you squint hard enough, you can see that this white shirt looks to have a little extra wiggle room on top of all that man meat muscle mass. You can also see that he is very guilty of manspreading. Look at his costars trying to have their own personal space. Ugh to that!

And here we come to Exhibit A. I think I've figured out why the necks always look stretched out. Is this just a normal man and toddler thing? I'm an arms first then delicately place my head through to neither stretch my 'fit nor smudge my makeup. Am I the oddball here?

Anywho, he is indeed the age of majority here and you can see how far baby girl has come along. 😘

Do you find Twitter or Tumblr better for general discussions?

kinda depends who you follow on both tbh?

personally I've pretty much stopped using twitter these days, but I never used it much to begin with. I am... evidently someone who struggles a bit with brevity ^^' twitter threads must be split into pithy chunks and that just didn't suit me at all.

that said, if you wanna talk sakuga or something like that, there's way more people engaged in that sphere on Twitter. only a few of us carrying that torch over here for whatever reason.

honestly, I don't think either site is great for it. both of them create a kind of branching tree structure that's awkward to navigate. to be kinda reductive, the three models you have are the forum model where all messages in a topic are presented linearly; the post + threaded comments model of LJ-derivatives, blogs and Reddit; and the tumblr/twitter reblog model where you copy a thread to your own timeline with additions.

All of these have tradeoffs. The forum thread model encourages longform back and forth, but it gets hard to navigate a long thread and it can quickly devolve into people stubbornly cutting up their interlocutor's message into bite sized chunks to rebut each one.

The threaded comments model creates a hierarchy; the original post has special status. Having branches allows multiple conversations to happen in parallel more easily, but each individual thread looks kind of like the forum. Navigation can still be an issue, since it usually hides comments below a certain depth unless you click, and there's either a sprawling mess if you load the whole tree in one page or a lot of backtracking. Still it's probably the best option in general.

The Tumblr/Twitter model is similar to the branching model but every time you reply you're also effectively inviting your followers to join in, encouraging 'containment break'.

Tumblr's version enables new kinds of expression - a particularly memorable exchange can be isolated without being burdened by all the other replies. But it also puts a limit on longform discussion because you have to post the entire history to your timeline and at some point that will annoy people. that is... arguably a feature? Finding other branches of the conversation in Tumblr is a real pain though - you can open the reblog list and get all the replies chronologically and the only way to figure out what anyone's responding to is to click on it. also, since it's hard to see other branches you get a lot of repetition on popular posts.

Twitter/Mastodon/etc. gives you the reply and the quote tweet. These actions both share a limited excerpt of the original thread to your timeline. You're limited in character count of course, though not as much anymore.

Mostly I just really don't like the prose style that Twitter encourages with a thread lol. Each statement having to stand alone. It's kinda grating when you just wanna say stuff to have to think about the tweet boundaries. And I mean, you see how I post on here, I'm not good at a brief passing thought lmao. So I've never really been able to get used to Twitter/Mastodon/Bluesky/etc. It also feels... somehow more panopticon-like on there. Hard to say why because it's not like people don't jump down your throat on here lmao. But ig it's a matter of demographics and scale.

In any case, on either site having interesting conversations is ofc a matter of finding people you find fun to talk to, and you can find that kinda connection on p much any website.

I am in a similar predicament, but my friend falls into one of two categories: she either is a fallen angel or she was raised in a very, very strange cult, and here are the reasons why: 

(Little disclaimer before the list, I read this post together with her and she looked me straight in the eyes before telling me what I was waiting to write away about her with my heart content, so I actually have her okay to write all this things here).

1 I've known her for eight years now, but yesterday I took out some photos we took just after we became friends and she hasn't aged a day or even really changed her haircut since I've met her. I am also suspicious that her hair doesn't grow at all.

2 We have traveled half of the world together, but I've yet to see her breaking a sweat. Even in the hottest and humidest climate her skin is cold to the touch and when she is at home her fireplace is always lit. She also never got a sunburn, even if she is extremely pale and I've never seen her using Spf.

3 On another note she is completely obsessed with being warm and it has something to do with the place she was raised being extremely cold, which wouldn't be all that strange, if only she hadn't mentioned traveling to Palestine, Israel and Egypt more than once in her youth. When I asked her about it she simply told me it was her father's will.

4 After barely three weeks of knowing her she called me in the middle of the night and told me I needed to call my brother. When I, half-asleep and completely out of it, asked her which one I needed to call she told me, without missing a beat, to call the ginger one. We barely knew each other back then and I never had photos with my older brother on my ig or around my appartament. The only photos of my family she had ever seen were the ones of me and my parents and I am blonde, while they both have extremely dark hair and I never told her my brother is a red head. Two years later my brother told me that call saved his life, because he was struggling with depression (we are genethically predisposed for it) and he was thinking of ending it all.

5 The first time I saw her in a bikini I almost had a heart attack looking at her back. From the inside of her shoulder blades to the small of her back she has two very long, raised scars, which create a V shaped design on her back. When one of our friends asked about it she simply said something that can be roughly translated to:

"Sometimes not forsaking someone causes pain and loss and sometimes what you are losing is a part of yourself."

6 She was apparently born in the middle of nowhere, in the vicinity of an archeological site, during a guided tour. It wouldn't be all that strange if the site wasn't Ketef Hinnom,  the place in which the oldest surviving texts currently known from the Hebrew Bible, dated to 600 BC, were found. Her other siblings were primarily born in Jerusalem and Rome. 

7 She doesn't smell of anything and with that I don't mean she doesn't smell of anything bad, but that she literally never smells of anything at all, either good or bad, the same thing can be said about her home. 

8 I've never heard her talk about her mom, but I know her father is very very strict and kicked some of her siblings out because they had different religious views? I don't really know much about it but apparently she too had to leave her home for not having completely cut ties with said siblings.

10 When we met she only mentioned two siblings of hers, a brother whose name is a variant of Raphael and a sibling whose nickname is Lu. Now I've met thirteen of her siblings (no one of them really resembles the other, but they all share something vaguely familiar and off putting about them), they all share biblical names and all of the siblings of hers I met,  bar one of her sisters, named Ariel, don't like this Lu person very much. I know for sure she has other siblings I've yet to meet.

11 I also have yet to know anything about Lu, outside of the fact that they gifted her a massive (and extremely pricy) piebald tiger piton but, every time they visit her her odour-less home smells of sulfur for a couple of days after. Two years ago my friend went to visit them and her skin smelled that way for almost two weeks. 

12 From my understanding, one of her sisters, whose name is a variant of the name Eve, has two sons, and they are her only nephews. I've yet to gather enough courage to ask for their names. 

13 Her legal name isn't the name her parents gave her. Her legal name means light and (apparently) her father wasn't really happy about it and it had something to do with her sibling, Lu.

14 I once heard one of her brothers (whose name, is once again, biblical, being a variation of the name Gabriel) asking her why she chose to study Theology. She told him that knowing people's dirty laundry made the whole ordeal hilarious.

15 Her youngest brother was born after her father had a one night stand with a woman named Miriam who was much younger than him. Apparently said brother is also her father's favorite.

16 We have traveled together more than once and I've heard her talk in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.  I know from some lectures we took in college she can read and understand Latin, Ancient Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic, but while we traveled in the Southeast region of Turkey, I've literally heard her talk in Aramaic, which shocked even our tour guide.

After that I discovered that, most of the time she is on the phone with her family, she actually speaks a language that seems quite similar to Aramaic.

17 Every time she spends more than a couple of days in the same place all the light bulbs, one after the other, burn out. I have no idea how the ones in her own apartment stay alive. The same thing happens with elettronic devices of every kind.

Reasons I believe my friend is secretly some kind of deity

1) First time we spoke was a week after the beggining of freshman year she summed up my entire character and most of the events of my life Sherlock style. I asked her how the hell she knew all that. She just shrugged and said she figured out our entire class already.

2) The one time we had religion class instead of ethics she listened to the teacher for a few minutes, laughed and told me:

“Humans have wished to be gods so much they’ve forgotten they have to ability to create them. Imagination has truly suffered from this ‘monotheism’ stuff.”

I was confused and asked her if she was an atheist. She rolled her eyes and said:

“Oh I believe in god alright. I just don’t think the bastard deserves to be worshipped.”

3) Out of nowhere she gave me this advice:

“The only truth a liar ever told was that lies weren’t going to save you. Don’t become the liar who has to pass that wisdom on, because they speak from experience.”

4) To this day, she has one of those old-timey phones with buttons she only uses to ocassionally call someone. When I asked her why she never got a smartphone she got pouty:

“I hate social media. On Facebook they talk a lot but never say anything. If I wanted to listen to people moan about their problems and ask for help they don’t expect I’d listen to their prayers.” (Notice the choice of words)

5) I noticed she was stiff and I offered her a massage since I’m really good at it but when i started kneading her back I swear to this day those were not muscles I felt. I asked her what she did to turn her muscles into rocks covered with a thin layer of skin and she kinda froze then shrugged and said she was just really, really stiff. My hands hurt after ten minutes when I can usually go for an hour. Next time I offered she seemed surprised and laughed. She still has rocks for muscles.

6) We were having a debate over the way neural pathways are formed (I study biology and she forensics) and I jokingly asked if I could have her brain for study when she dies. She laughed.

“Sure, if you find a way to kill me you can have it. I’m actually curious what you’re gonna find.”

7) One time she was tired and miserable and I tried to comfort her. We both have really dark sense of humor so I told her she could scare the dead out of their graves with that glare. She told me the dead can’t come back and I rolled my eyes and said 'obviously’ but she continued:

“When you die you descend to the underworld with nothing to lose. To keep you, they give you something to lose. When you want to return, they will demand it back. That’s why nobody ever leaves. The only way out is to never enter.”

8) One day she just came up to me with a disappointed look on her face. When I asked her what was wrong she was quiet for a few seconds and then just told me:

“Betrayals committed in good intentions are still damning. Just… keep that in mind.” Then she left and didn’t speak to me for three days. I still don’t know what she meant but even three years later I haven’t forgotten it.

9) We were casually sitting on a bench when, out of nowhere, she asked me: “Is it just me or have humans gotten dumber? Or have they always been this stupid and I just haven’t been paying attention?”

10) She asked me if I ever wondered what it was like to die. I said no but told her I would tell her when I found out. I meant it as a ghost joke but she smiled at me and said:

“Great. I’ll wait for you to come back. Maybe you’ll even remember me.”

In conclusion, she is some kind of low-key god and she lost her faith in humanity even before we lost our faith in her but she’s stuck with us because immortality is a bitch.

P.S. I just remembered her name is a variation on 'Eve’. Maybe I should reconsider my atheist status?!

BREAKING NEWS EX PRESIDENT TALA KELLY BACK FROM THE DEAD: HOAX OR FACT

Earth is reeling today after an online tabloid media site received leaked footage from inside Fort Harmony that seems to show Ex- President Tala Kelly alive and well after her supposed death more than three years ago. Armature video analysts have speculated wildly over the past day whether the video footage is real or faked, some citing an apparent glitch as reason enough that the footage is bunk, while others can find no sign of editing software being used to fake the video. If the video is fake, the question remains, who would fake such a thing and why?

News reporter and columnist for IG Daily was quoted as saying, “Some people need no other reason than because they think it will cause a stir. Whoever made this video was simply trying to get media attention, and it has done a wonderful job.”

However, when attempting to speak with members of the UNSC about the subject, our office was denied access, and no answers were given, leaving us to believe that there may be some sliver of truth to the story. Is this old video captured and released several years ago?, Is it an elaborate test from government officials to demonstrate the power of their new computer editing software, or perhaps  was Tala kelly’s dead a hoax.

Small time media tabloids and conspiracy theorists are in an uproar citing the previous years election as an elaborate hoax to set president Hunt up in power without any obstacles. Media personality and host of the show, The Governee’s report has laid out an elaborate scenario that describes the election as an elaborate front for the government’s anti-GA isolationist agenda to place Hunt in power for their own Ends with Kelly as its fall woman.

However, as of now the video has neither been confirmed nor denied by the UNSC or the Hunt administration, and now the nations of earth wait on bated breath to see what might happen next.

Kelly sat in the waiting break room surrounded by the familiar smell of the old plastic furniture and the sound of the whirring air conditioning. The building was old, probably too old, but rather than tearing her down and replacing her completely, the UNSC was determined to simply replace it piece by piece as the old technology finally broke down and became obsolete. Somehow the fan air conditioner was still working, despite the military budget which certainly would have given them access to universal climate control systems similar to if not identical to the ones used in the ships on their interstellar fleet.

She had been here for hours, here at For harmony, over the night and well into the next day. She gave Hye a call to let him know she probably wouldn’t be bake for a while, and he assured her she didn’t need to worry about him.

His voice had been distant behind the sound of squawking gulls and the rushing of a boat engine. He hadn’t said what he was doing other than to excitedly squeak something about turtles before inadvertently hanging up. It sort of made her smile as he sent her a desperate text a moment later.

Sorry, phone cut out, big sea turtle!

And then he sent her a picture and she zoomed in to examine the turtle whose shell must have been a good three feet long. It wasn’t the biggest sea turtle he had ever showed her, but it was a pretty good size. She forgot how much she missed getting these texts from him, and held the image to her chest  for a moment in silent contemplation.

The door opened then, and she looked up to see one of the four stars standing awkwardly in the doorway/ it was a strange image to be sure, a general coming to fetch her like the average enlisted or lower ranking lieutenant. He almost looked apologetic verging on nervous.

They had been making a few calls.

Several supreme court justices had been roused from their beds and brought together to mull over the problem before them. Usually, the procedure for challenging a pronounced death was to set a court date and simply show up at a courthouse to prove you were alive, but in this case things were a little more complicated. Kelly wasn’t technically alive, at least not to their standards, but she was here and she was in office when she had died which technically made Hunt a stand in until her recovery.

Looking inside the man’s head, kelly could see how the debate had gone.

The supreme court had done their best to apply precedent from previous laws and cases into this one  in a record ruling. First they had argued the nature of your rights once you are legally dead. Some had argued that being dead precludes you from all your original rights on the basis that giving dead people rights was against the court process of setting precedent that was, “reasonable and adhered to common sense.” While another judge argued that the nature of death did not necessarily preclude you of rights considering that someone who dies has the rights to their will, and if the will must be carried out on the wishes of the dead then it could certainly be argued that Kelly retained her rights as dead. Another judge brought back up “Reasonable and common sense.” and openly pointed out that Kelly was not in fact, just a corpse, but was living and walking around to to deny her of her rights would be against reason. 

Of course wills were only valid because they were signed into being BEFORE death, at which point one of the justices pointed out that Kelly had been appointed president approximately two to three minutes before her death. But then it had gotten into an argument about how death severs certain binding contracts. The CEO of a company does not maintain control of the company after death. But then that had turned into an argument about resuscitation, and how there were plenty of world leaders that had required CPR after their hearts clinically stop and then were placed back into office as if the death was some sort of medical condition. In this case, someone was appointed to their place until which time as they recovered from their illness and were able to reclaim their seat again.

From there it all sort of went over her head.

She had never had the mind for all of that legal stuff. Kelly was no slouch of course, but like Adam, she was a soldier at heart, a woman of action, and talking only tended to bore her to tears.

“The decision?” She wondered, and the man next to her gave a sort of half shrug

“Well they were at least able to establish the fact that dead people have rights, and if they do you maintain everything that you had before you died. Now with your absence being so long they had to argue that, even were this treated like an illness, control of the country would have been remanded over to president Hunt anyway, which is kind of where we are stuck right now.”

Kelly nodded. She had expected as much.

If that was the case, there was still the possibility she could run for a second turn, but since Hunt had been in office for three years now she was significantly behind on a campaign and only had less than a year to convince the nation to re-elect someone who was already dead.

She was lead back into the waiting conference room where she took  her seat and looked around at the waiting holograms, sitting in their seats around the table. The illusion was so good it was almost like they were really here, a fact she wished to be true as she would have given anything to glower to the REAL hunt.

She would have given anything to introduce his face to the metal part of a folding chair, but that certainly wouldn’t solve anything.

“Tala Kelly.”

“Yes your honor.”

The justice shifted tiredly in her seat rubbing her temples, “You have created a significant legal headache which we are still in the process of solving. However we have made a few decisions. One of them involves the reinstatement of your rights, despite being dead, we have determined that you legal rights remain as we cannot look at a…. Talking thinking subject as anything other than alive and deserving of rights.” Kelly nodded, ‘Additionally, along with the UNSC we have determined to treat your…. Absence in two ways, firstly as an illness, and secondly as a prisoner of war.”

Kelly shivered trying not to think of the dark place.

She felt her body glitch slightly as even her very bones  remembered what had happened.

“Go on.”

“With these in mind we have determined to treat this the same way we might have treated you had you been struck into a coma for the past three years at the beginning of your term of presidency. A presidency can only last two terms and a total of eight years, but you didn’t even serve a full day, and your absence was long enough for power to be moved to president Hunt. In this case we have chosen to treat the situation as if you were Not sworn in.”

There was a slight murer around the room, and Kelly raised an eyebrow. That was a decision she had not expected. Some people here didn’t like the sound of that but president hunt seemed pleased at the very least. But to be honest she found that she didn't mind that at all.

She had beat President hunt once, she felt she could do it again.

She folded her hands politely in her lap, “If that is the case, and my rights are still in tact as they were before my death, than I would like to continue my campaign from the previous election, running on the same grounds.”

There was another murmuring throughout the room Hunt scoffed, “We can’t let a dead woman be president.”

She smirked, “I think we can. How do you think the public will feel when they learn that I understand our enemy more now, I have greater insight into what comes after, and I am virtually assassin proof now. I will be able to do more for this world than any leader has ever been able to do.” She failed to mention that now she couldn’t be manipulated or lied to.

Some secrets she had to keep to herself.

Was it morally questionable? Maybe, but she wasn’t about to give up one of her greatest advantages.

Of course this was something she would have to keep quiet, unless this turned into a conversation about privacy laws involving one’s own inner dialogue. If her ability to read minds got out, she was sure it would lead to public outcry.

Best not to mention that little fact.

“I…. since we have reinstated your rights…. And you fulfill all the other requirements it seems that we certainly can’t stop you.”

She nodded.

Hopefully her sponsors from a few years around were still out there. She definitely had to give them all a call and try to win her way back into their candidacy position. At least now she could promise she wouldn’t die on them.

Together they stood, making their way out and towards the doors. The general still stood with her, and as they walked he seemed interested to ask her a question but couldn’t find a way to satisfactorily phrase whatever was on his mind. She let him struggle, content to plan for the future.

It was only when the doors opened and the gasps rose into the air did she realize they weren’t alone.

The collective gasps turned into the collective flashing of cameras and shouted questions.

“Tala kelly is that really you!’

“Where have you been!”

“Will you be taking over the presidency/”

And then inevitably the glitch happened, the the crowd broke into chaos.

currently working at a barnes & noble starbucks, which sucks. she recently became the assistant manager, which turbo sucks because now she has more work for only like a buck raise, but at least she’s getting reliable shifts

literally any extra money she can save goes to tattoos. her right sleeve’s almost done

a hedonist to cope but is also just a natural hedonist. likes a good bath

i know that like the typical thing fandoms say about female characters is “doesn’t take shit” for the girlboss points but she truly does not take shit anymore. she used to take people’s shit sometimes but at this point in her life she’s tired and she has a girlfriend to be protective of. she has a couple people whose shit she will take (mostly just tugger) but besides them (and having to practice basic customer service to keep her job) she’s tired of other people’s shit! enough!

my personal take on bombalurina is a mix between the riot grrrls of the 90s and 80s punk girls, and then a dash of the greaser chicks from grease. i saw that spiked collar and my brain went OH okay i can run with this somewhere fun. same for demeter, but less so - she just has the piercings.

demelurina:

bombalurina met demeter in college at a women’s activism club, noticed her because of her dimple piercings and was like “oh someone else with a lot of metal in her face, i’ll sit next to her”

they were each other’s first off-campus roommates and were close friends. made out a couple times, but it was mostly a lot of sexual tension. there was a lot of bombalurina staring at demeter while she or demeter made out with someone else

demeter was on and off with her high school boyfriend munkustrap and bombalurina was like “oh he’s so much more stable/calm than me and she needs that, i party a bit too much for her, i shouldn’t try anything” so she just sort of. lets their almost-there peter off

(this is all bombalurina’s internal thoughts - demeter always was interested in her, but thought she was too boring for bombalurina. so neither of them thought they could pursue it)

bombalurina graduated and moved somewhere cheaper further away from campus. they kind of drift apart

munkustrap and demeter peter off and he moves away for a job (they’re still good friends, it was a very amicable breakup) and then demeter gets with macavity, which is a deeply toxic situation for her and sucks hugely and throws her whole life really off track. won’t go into further details

she finally manages to break up with him and calls bombalurina at like 2 am asking if she can pick her up, and also if she can sleep on her couch, it’s okay if that’s not okay, she just. really needs a place she feels safe, and her gut is telling her to. and of course bombalurina says yes

bombalurina also knew macavity and had also made out a couple times with him at like parties and stuff (see: staring at demeter as she makes out with people). something about transference of feelings - bombalurina was into him for a couple moments because he and demeter had a thing.

this is due to me interpreting the song “macavity” as actually about bombalurina wanting to fuck demeter and her singing as a half-repressed expression of that. i use my really good wlw brain to reach that conclusion. it’s kind of a non-competitive version of eve sedgwick’s take on the love triangle. (<-- normal thing to say)

but anyway demeter stays on bombalurina’s couch and she tries so hard to stay on track but eventually she just has to drop out. bombalurina helps her with that too. she’s just really supportive even as demeter’s life is at its lowest point. when she gets home from bartending she gets demeter to go to sleep

she just Stays with her and makes her smile and reminds her that her life isn’t over, there’s still things in her day to enjoy, to keep her trudging forward

bombalurina is roommates with tugger at this point - he also recently dropped out and demeter knows him because he’s munkustrap’s brother, so he’s Trusted and also is like “hey it’s okay that you dropped out, im here and im chilling and you like me and respect me at least a little, and you have a bachelor’s degree at least!” (more on him later)

demeter is like “oh god ive been crashing at their place for so long not paying rent, theyre gonna ask me to leave, im such a freeloader, they wont take my attempts at paying rent” but then bombalurina and tugger are like “hey! the lease is almost up! we found a pretty good 3 bedroom, do you wanna have your own room for real?” and she nearly cries because 1. the RELIEF 2. oh my god you want me around???

cut to bombalurina helping demeter put together an ikea dresser (tugger got banished to the kitchen to make crystal light lemonade for them because he’s useless with a screwdriver) and demeter has two epiphanies:

1. i thought i was ready to d*e four months ago and here i am making a dresser to put clothes into in my new apartment where i live and feel safe and loved. im still not happy but im still alive and im making a dresser

2. holy fuck im back in love with my best friend, and ten times more than i was back then.

so she like kind of freaks out because she’s already imposed so much on bombalurina, how could she impose her FEELINGS on her like this, oh no oh no oh no

meanwhile bombalurina’s back in love with her even MORE and she’s also like no... she’s already dealing with so much... i don’t want to make her uncomfortable or feel unsafe in her own home especially after her recent relationship trauma... i just want her to feel safe around me...

you might think tugger as their roommate would be like “JUST KISS” but he is in fact pretty oblivious because he is self-absorbed. mistoffelees on the other hand..

eventually they do have a big confession of feelings after demeter has a bad day and it’s very dramatic and they make out in the rain. and it’s like. well this is a movie scene. but also im cold and damp. let’s head inside our home and get warm and dry :)

and then they go inside and and talk through everything, all their feelings (not just their romantic feelings but like ALL their feelings) and their shared histories and bombalurina is like “do you think you’re... ready for a relationship right now? like that would be a good thing for you?”

and demeter considers it. she does stop and think. and then she says, “with anyone else... probably not. but it’s you. and i feel so safe around you, and we’re already so close. you make the future feel more worth it. you make more days alive feel not just tolerable, but something to look forward to. and knowing you’ve loved me all this time... it’s nice. it’s good. i’m - i’m understating it so much, it’s more than nice, it’s just - it’s a lot. i wish i had noticed back then.” “hey, hey, don’t blame yourself. i’m the one who never said anything.”

anyway. everything works out, and they start dating for real :)

tugger:

bisexual. 22 years old

dishwasher at the same bar bombalurina works at. she got him the job. he keeps bugging her to teach him bartending tricks and on slow nights she will agree to

he dropped out of their four year, but he managed to secure an associate’s in communications before he dipped

trying to be an ig influencer hotboy and hopefully get modeling jobs from that but his phone’s camera sucks shit so his account isn’t really going anywhere. but he continues to post his low resolution shirtless selfies

trying to cope with being the failure son who does not have a fancy nonprofit job with a salary and healthcare by being self-absorbed and self-aggrandizing

it works about 60% of the time and 60% of the times that it doesn’t he’s able to hide it

he dropped out right around when bombalurina graduated and he was like HEY! ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE WHO DOESN’T CARE IF WE LIVE TEN MILES AWAY FROM CAMPUS? WELL HAVE I GOT A SOLUTION FOR YOU: ME!

to which bombalurina (who has fooled around with him here and there and thinks he is funny little man and genuinely goodhearted, and also he has rockin abs as a plus) says munkustrap already asked me if i need a roommate and if i do to consider you, because you don’t want to move back home. in other words: yes, you little idiot

they do fool around with each other but they are both very understanding that it is strictly platonic and for fun, especially once they become roommates. they both do not desire each other for anything serious

he did have a bit of a crush on each other when they met (hot punk older girl who’s friends with his brother) but 1. it dissipated pretty quick after they fooled around for the first time because it was not a very serious crush 2. she was in the middle of being in love with demeter so she was focused on that, emotionally

he got his ears pierced a couple times in high school but bombalurina inspired him to get a couple more. she went with him when he got his nose pierced

demeter has always understood that him and bombalurina are strictly fwb, has never been an issue.

she and him like to bleach their hair together when their hair schedules line up (he bleaches his way less often then she does), but she refuses to use his fancy conditioner that keeps his hair unfried because it’s expensive, even though he tells her to go ahead and use it, please, the health of her hair is giving HIM anxiety, demeter please. please demeter

mistoffelees:

gay. 20 years old

has magic. it’s pretty good magic but again: magic is not a big deal in this concept

a bit spooky. skulks around. a bit of a bitch but also very very nice. chooses when to speak

he has postings on craigslist and fiverr about finding lost objects and people with magic. like a gig economy private detective

side job is a waiter at a fancy restaurant

sometimes he gets paid VERY well from the private detecting, depending on the client. he does ask his psychic friends (tantomile & coricopat) to give a quick glance over on some of the more suspicious clients just to make sure he isn’t finding someone who should not be found by that person.

doesn’t go to college. is roommates with his sister victoria, who’s a freshman and studying dance. moved into town with her so she wouldn’t have to live in the dorms by having a guaranteed roommate.

tuggoffelees:

the general vibe i want for these two is mistoffelees walking around town or driving around in his shitty toyota camry while tugger tags along because he’s bored and thinks this is cool as shit

the general tone of the au is “magic isn’t a big deal” except for tugger, who thinks mistoffelees’ magic and his magic freelancing is the coolest shit ever. this is mostly because he just likes mistoffelees. “there are people who can do cooler shit than me, tug” “yeah but i don’t KNOW them also theyre not as COOL as you” “you had to explain to me how instagram reels work”

idk how they met i just think tugger shows up at his and bombalurina’s apartment one day (this is when demeter has moved in but they havent moved to the 3br yet) with this dude to dash in and pick something up and bombalurina is like “uh. who’s this” “oh this is mistoffelees he’s SO GOOD AT MAGIC” [mistoffelees nods hello] “okay bye bombalurina see you at work!!!” “uh. later”

after that he just shows up a lot. sort of ambiguous if theyre dating or what for a while before bombalurina straight up asks like “hey does the dude you’re dating know we fool around” “the dude im - what?” “... the little magic guy who keeps using our hot cocoa mix. misty.” “oh. uh. we aren’t dating.” “... do you want to? because you’re kind of all over him constantly” “um. well! haha, if i wanted to, i could! haha!” “yeah get back to me on that”

tugger trying to use his ig clout to get mistoffelees more work even though 1. he has no clout 2. mistoffelees has a very stable client base. but mistoffelees appreciates the effort. the self-promo guy promoing someone other than himself... the highest expression of love...

mistoffelees is A Nonthreatening Man plus he’s pretty obviously gay so demeter is chill around him pretty quickly. when mistoffelees is over they’ll sit on the couch where demeter sleeps and watch documentaries quietly while she crochets

they both occasionally say spooky shit at the same time because magic stuff. bombalurina and tugger are both torn between “that was cool as fuck” and “god that’s unnerving”

just a lot of tugger following mistoffelees around on his jobs and mistoffelees letting him because he’s fond of him and them occasionally getting into minor peril and interesting shenanigans, but it is 90% fetch quests

i think the first time they met tugger was taking selfies in front of a hydrangea in a public park and he saw mistoffelees walk up with a shovel and start digging in one of the flower beds and he thought he was hot so he went over and offered to take over on the shoveling to look strong and masculine and he ended up digging up a skull, which mistoffelees picked up and said “thanks” and then walked away

mildly terrifying but also very interesting and tugger’s days are kind of boring and dishwashing kind of sucks as a job to do like every night and he is a person who thrives on novelty so. moth to a porchlight

i think they do start making out for fun here and there and then a while later theyre out on one of mistoffelees’ jobs and someone asks “who’s the guy with you” and mistoffelees replies “oh that’s my boyfriend, don’t worry about him” and then it’s like. “HUH? I’M YOUR BOYFRIEND?” “uh. yeah? i assumed. is that okay?” “i mean yeah of course i think you’re great! how long have we–” “oh like a while.” “oh. uh. cool!!”

they just hang out a lot. mistoffelees enjoys teasing him and enjoys his warmth and bombasticity and tugger likes watching and helping him solve little mysteries around the county because it’s always something new. they’re kind of a comedy duo. they just enjoy spending their time together and following mistoffelee’s internal magic gps to find lost dogs and lost necklaces

yeah right now this au is just vibes and just sort of. continuing forward with your days and your weeks and your months. just young adults hanging out

History 3 Trapped Filming Diary (full English translation) - Days 1-10

Just before you start reading, a little note of explanation: the author of this diary will frequently use the character’s name when they mean the actor. I have added the names of the actors between square brackets sometimes to avoid confusion. Also between square brackets you will find some words that are implied, so I added them in the translation to make the translation a bit smoother, but they aren’t included in the Chinese text. 

The book’s author will also talk in the first person POV sometimes, refering to themselves as either “I”, “we” or “this little editor 小编”.  So each time you see me write “I”, it is not my own opinion I’m inserting in the text, but the author/editor’s. If I have anything else to add or explain myself, I’ll add it in a note at the end of the text.  

I’ll repeat: I don’t own the book so I can’t post my scans of the pictures that came with every day. So I posted some other pictures of the scenes that were being filmed with each day. These pics belong to LINE TV or Choco Media, or I’ve taken screenshots. 

Day 1-10 under the cut. 

Day 1

The first day of shooting happened to coincide with ‘Li Dong’⁕ but the temperatures of that day soared to 29 degrees. The crew was going sleeveless, but the actors were all wearing sweaters or dress shirts. Tang Yi, who had on the most, was wearing a turtleneck sweater and a suit jacket on top at one point, but he didn’t sweat very much.⁕ Meanwhile A De [Stanley], wearing a shirt and a suit jacket, was [clad] the ‘thinnest’ at the scene. When he got off work and took off his sweaty shirt, the wardrobe department exclaimed: “This shirt is so wet!”

Officer Meng’s scenes for that day consisted of eating from 10 am in the morning until 6pm in the evening. He basically ate from when he got to work until he got off work. All in all he had two large bags of rice and poured 4 liters of coca cola. Junhao [Jake] will start sweating profusely and start flushing when he eats spicy food, so as soon as the director yelled ‘cut’, the crew would immediately pass him a plastic bag so he could spit out the spicy Kung Pao Chicken he was eating.

⁕ Li Dong 立冬 literally means ‘establishing the winter’, so it is some kind of winter solstice in Asian culture. In the Gregorian calendar, it falls on 7 or 8 November. According to the IG stories of some of the cast of Trapped, it was indeed 7 November 2018 when shooting started. 

⁕ Chris apparently doesn’t sweat much, no matter how hot he gets. He says as much in his vlog as well. I envy him, because I’d just be sweating buckets like Stanley. 

Day 2

The first meeting between Tang Yi and Wenhao is also the second time that Chengyang [Chris] and teacher Jiakui [Chen Jiakui, the actor who plays Chen Wenhao] worked together. They cooperated for the first time on a movie. At that time teacher Jiakui served as the movie’s drama teacher. When Chris had gone through make-up in the early morning, he sat alone in a corner with the script. You could easily see that he was conflicted and upset. [For the other movie] teacher Jiakui was Chris’ mentor, but here Wenhao was the target of Tang Yi’s revenge.

In the process of their scenes where they faced each other, the director hoped that Tang Yi could hate Wenhao even more, but Tang Yi’s personality is subdued and calm. So how could he fly into a raging fit and still keep his calm? In a part that was not captured on camera, teacher Jiakui aggravated some lines to make Chris more infuriated. Afterwards teacher Jiakui also said that the role of Tang Yi is not easy to perform. [Tang Yi] is a young mob boss, The hate in his eyes must therefore also carry a bit of youthfullness, which is difficult to experience for normal people in the course of their lives.

Day 3

Today was the first time that Zhaozi arrived on set, and while he was bored waiting for his scenes, Zhaozi started to act as the shop’s clerk to sell suits. Apart from suits, bowties and regular ties, he even managed to sell shoehorns. By oneself, the words just kept on flying out of his mouth which left Shaofei beside him looking dumbfounded (if you want to see Shaofei’s dumbfounded meme-like look, you have to absolutely watch the behind-the-scenes on the DVDs)⁕. [Shaofei] continued to shout “If you buy a shoehorn you get Zhaozi for free with it, please someone take Zhaozi away, Unit 3 can’t stand it anymore.”

Boss Tang was tired, and took a nap in his own shop. ‘Just a little while will do. Shaofei and A De, you two be on the lookout for me, and if the director is coming, remember to wake me.’

Day 4

The set for the offices of Investigation Unit 3 is actually the office of LINE TV’s Choco Media branch. The contemporary industrial style caused the atmosphere among Unit 3 to be even more lively. 

For Unit 3’s first scene together, the director used a one-shot to have everyone appear on the scene, which meant that the first time all the actors were present, they had to have a ‘chemistry’ test. But apart from the actors, chemistry also had to be there for the whole staff, as the directing crew, the camera crew and the sound crew, really everyone, also had to follow [the actors] along⁕. I still remember that by the 20th take, everyone’s lines ran very smoothly, the shot was satisfactory and everyone was where they were supposed to be. The director and the crew were holding their breath in concentration, and just when they thought they’d succeed, A Zhi [character Zhou Guanzhi, played by Kass Tsai] forgot a line in the very last sentence hahahaha. In the end, this round took 27 takes.

⁕ The author uses a metaphor/reference here. They write 乾坤大挪移 which means something like ‘The Great Shift of the Cosmos’ and is apparently a kind of martial art from a martial arts novel. It consists of 7 increasingly difficult skill levels, whereby the 7th level is almost unattainable. In other words, shooting this one-shot scene required the whole cast and crew pulling off this great cosmos shift, and thus was a big, big challenge. 

Day 5

After we shot the scene where the two idiots from Unit 3 [Shaofei and Zhaozi] got into trouble and received an explosive scolding by Dapao [Shi Dapao, the name of Unit 3’s Captain]⁕, the director told Shaofei that she wanted to add a scene where he sat next to the window thinking about Sister Lizhen, continuing in the same mood [as the previous scene]...Everyone in Unit 3 felt that Shaofei was continuing to set his teeth into a meaningless old case. If there had only been some progress in the investigation...but [Shaofei] not only didn’t find any new leads, but he also got into trouble everywhere. If Sister Lizhen would still be alive, he wouldn’t be like this now...Shaofei really, really missed sister Lizhen. Rather than say that the director added this scene at the last moment, it’s more like she deliberately didn’t tell Junhao [Jake] that she would add this part. 

When they were shooting, the director played the music from the music box through the megaphone and from time to time talked as well, to provoke moody feelings in Jake. In the end Jake grabbed his phone and scrolled through his mother’s Facebook, and to all our surprise Jake started bawling, so much so that even after the ‘cut’ he couldn’t stop, until the director walked over and lightly patted him on the back. To be able to cry like that in a short amount of time, even he himself hadn’t expected that.

⁕ How much fun is it that the name of the Captain of Unit 3 literally means big cannon, when he explodes in anger all the damn time? 😂 I am quite convinced that in the hospital scene where Shaofei tells Tang Yi of his fortune-telling and that only a cannon can strike him down - he uses the exact same wording ‘dapao’ - it’s actually an inside joke and he may not have meant ‘cannon’ literally. 

Day 6

Today’s weather couldn’t be called very fine, and when we were shooting until 3 or 4 P.M., the daylight was almost gone, just when the filming location had large windows in every corner that reached the ground. Our funny director said “Why did the production team run out of light after 3 P.M.? Did they forget to send notice⁕ to the sun?” This caused the crew that was present to not know whether to laugh or cry. But in the end, before the sun got off work, everyone else smoothly finished their job as well.

⁕ the term “to send notice” is quite literal, but the word is indeed an entertainment industry term as well, that means to hire someone for a short amount of time or for a specific show, without there having to be a longer-term contractual agreement. So it could also be translated as “did they forget to hire the sun [to star in today’s scenes]?”

Day 7

It was a day with complicated feelings for Shaofei and little Tang Yi, as Shaofei discovered Tang Yi’s past history. 

Before going to meet the adoptive father of his lover, of course Shaofei had to straighten himself out first and shave his beard to leave a good impression. In the evening, today’s final scene was shot. Before starting filming, the director hoped that [Tang Yi’s] adoptive father could guide little Tang Yi’s mood, because the intensity of this scene needed to bring out the reason why Tang Yi’s feelings for Tang Guodong ran so deep and make everyone feel the warmth that Tang Guodong brought to Tang Yi even more. 

Under the constant conflict of raising [little Tang Yi] through much difficulties, a loud and clear slap came down heavily on little Tang Yi’s face. The silence at the [shooting] site caused the loud sound to be infinitely amplified, and the director and the crew were all shocked. When the ‘cut’ sounded, little Tang Yi instantly started crying, and the director rushed to the room immediately. On every crew member’s face was reluctance and shock. Meanwhile the adoptive father sat with his head down on the sofa, full of remorse. 

An extra tidbit from the same scene: the crew’s love for little gadgets

There are always a few conspicuous toys in front of the director’s monitor. She explained that these were toys that members of the crew who are close to her gave her to alleviate stress. I don’t know which toy is the director’s favourite?

 Day 8

For the setting of the toilets of Unit 3 we actually used the toilets in a department store. Zhaozi, who arrived at the store very early in the morning, was hit on by an older lady who was just coming into work. The lady said: “Aren’t you Zhao Youting [Mark Chao]? You definitely are Zhao Youting!!” Even though Zhaozi went on to deny it, the lady didn’t listen and believed that this handsome guy in front of her was Zhao Youting himself. 

Actually, Zhaozi passed on the above story [to us], and no one actually saw this older lady. Zhaozi often tells bluff stories with a straight face, but I [this little editor] have my reservations about its credibility. But be as it may, after he was told that he looked like Zhao Youting, Zhaozi’s acting skills immediately leveled up. So okay, whether or not the story was real, we thank this lady ‘from the legends’.

Day 9

Can I call you dad after this hug? 

I still remember the story of a friend coming out to his mother. He said to his mom: “I’m sorry if this thing disappoints you. I don’t dare to ask for your blessing. I just hope that you can show some understanding.” Through a chat message, his mother could only briefly reply: “If your other half is a good kid, I will give you my blessing.”

Many people in a same-sex relationship don’t dare to confess to the older generation and they don’t dare to ask for their blessings. Their only hope is not to be hated. It’s like that facing this society, and it’s the case when facing your beloved family. When Wenhao and Shaofei met each other, Wenhao gave Shaofei a hug. This hug must have carried [Wenhao’s] unspoken blessing.

Wenhao and Guodong together brings its own hint of romance.⁕ The fighting was very intense that day, so much so that the police dispatched a Quick Fight Force team in concern [for the situation]. 

⁕ The term that the author uses is 腐味 (fuwei, the taste of fu). The first character, ‘fu’ is the same ‘fu’ that is used in terms like fujoshi 腐女子 and fudanshi  腐男子 (which are Japanese) but it’s the same pronunciation for that first character. So the author implies that there might have been something more than friendship going on between Chen Wenhao and Tang Guodong. They imply the same thing later in the book as well (day 60, where the two are called a CP). 

Day 10

A Mei [Stanley] who portrays A De, said that he was the expert in getting beaten [in this drama]. I say that Stanley definitely dedicated himself to taking on that role. Many times his head bumped into the wall and the crew told him to take a break, but Stanley couldn’t stop yelling “no no, hurry up, I’m familiar with it now!”

All the way through the end Officer Meng and Vixen⁕ no.1, A De, cheered each other on before ‘Action!’ [was called]. 

⁕ The word for vixen is ‘fox spirit’  狐狸精 in Chinese. I love that and I could probably write essays on this subject. In classical Chinese literature, foxes were most of the time portrayed as (mainly female) temptresses who seduced males for sex and then didn’t shy away from sucking the soul out of them, kind of like a succubus. I saw that you got an ask questioning why Taehyung even bother to reply to that shipper (which resulted in the infamous ‘get out of your imagination’) and I just couldn’t help thinking back to the whole situation and the ridiculousness that ensued afterwards.

Taehyung could have simply ignored it. Undoubtedly he would have seen those kinds of comments before from fans, I don’t believe that it would have been anything new. But instead he choose to answer in such a blatant and harsh way. I think they even deleted it. Judging from his answer he didn’t see it as a little innocent comment like some shippers want you to believe. Taehyung wasn’t amused in the slightest.

ok so part of the reason i’ve been hesitant to share this is because a good portion of it is VERY speculative and just based on a lot of guesswork and assumptions, but also there’s the fact that it feels like this is something major that more people in the fandom (or at least someone, other than little ass me lol) would have noticed before now and it kind of freaks me out that maybe no one else has?? (unless ofc i just haven’t happened to see any other posts there are about it idk)… 

also fyi a lot of what i propose throughout this is heavily based on info from this post just to make sure i remember to site my sources before we get into it lol

alright now onto the actual theory…

SO. all this started with me scrolling through old posts from late 2013/early 2014 and being reminded of the fuckery that was zayn’s bday that year (with the douche canoe crew and everyone pretending like liam was barely there as seemingly some sort of weird over-the-top cover-up)…the same party that seemed kinda like liam’s possible “introduction” to the malik family as more than just zayn’s friend/as his possible significant other. which was also only a month after that suspicious engagement-looking ring first showed up on zayn’s ring finger in december 2013 from bts midnight memories mv footage (and which stayed around as a necklace throughout january 2014 and early febuary 2014 right before the first appearance/debut of the mandala tat in mid feb).

then sometime in between late jan and early feb 2014 liam went on a trip to barbados with his whole family (and supposedly also sophia lol more on that later*) while zayn was SUPPOSEDLY still home and steadily “posting” pics of himself at home with various members of his family (with the ring on a necklace clearly visible in the pics lol), anddd as some have also pointed out his hair was suspiciously unchanged in these pics despite his claim of getting a haircut BEFORE most of the pics were posted lol

but yet we’re supposed to believe zayn - who had just gotten awarded the asian ambassadorship for the VERY FIRST time - mysteriously (and willingly) MISSED the ceremony on feb. 5th with absolutely no explanation. which…we all know how big a deal that was to him from the way he talked about it and how honored he was when he went in 2015…which begs the question if he was really just home not doing much of anything at the time in 2014 why in the world would he just pass/bail on that HUGE HONOR with no explanation??? mayhaps because he was actually already an ocean away with liam and fam in barbados celebrating his engagement (and getting his own “introduction” to the payne family) and literally COULD NOT ATTEND?

anyway so then, we have him getting the mandala tat around feb 18th 2014 - or at least this is the day he debuted it on his old ig, so the date may be a few days off from when he actually got it - but this still would’ve been shortly after they got back from the barbados trip when he debuted this particular tat (aka another solidification of the engagement??) 

THEN we get the very first ig ziam likes from the famous and beloved aunt zileh (!!!) in this same month (still feb for reference, but she continues steadily and heavily liking stuff all the way through april when she seems to cool down again). fast forward to the 2014 brits at the end of february where we have the infamous moment with 1) ziam giddy as fucking ever, 2) zayn whispering into and practically mawling liam’s neck in public, 3) liam talking about how it was great to “fill each other in” on what they were up to during their break while zayn’s just steady standing there smiling like a loon and then 4) liam still later being like ‘you don’t wanna know’ when asked what he got up to (and zayn still grinning like a fool)

so to sum up so far: 1) one of them possibly proposed around nov/dec 2013 (or that’s my best guess anyway based on the evidence lol), 2) then zayn shows up with a suspiciously-engagement-looking ring in dec 2013, 3) then all the weirdness with liam’s attendance at zayn’s bday party a month later (possibly also liam’s formal intro to the malik family), 4) then liam takes his barbados trip with his fam (and supposedly sophia lol*) just a couple weeks later while “zayn” stays home and posts family pics (but is very likely secretly on the trip with liam lol which is also possibly zayn’s formal intro the payne family and a belated celebration of their engagement), 5) and then we get the beginning of aunt zileh’s likes, 6) the debut of zayn’s mandala tat, 7) and the 2014 brits wildness…all in the space of like 3 months. and most of it happening in FEBRUARY. what a wild fucking journey right?

*side note/fun fact: liam and his fam were posting stuff regularly throughout the duration of the barbados vacay but there were literally zero pics of sophia posted from this trip until like dec 2014 or sometime around then when like ONE random pic suddenly surfaced/was posted and lots of ppl had already speculated that sophia was never there in the first place so once this one pic came up that idea got upgraded to people theorizing that they maybe had some of the fam go back a second time later in the year just to stage take photos to retroactively prove/authenticate the narrative that sophia was there lol

but anyway so back to the actual matter at hand - most of that shit happened in february right? specifically the barbados trip (aka the possible engagement celebration trip)…and when i was talking about all this to a friend we realized ZIAMI WAS ALSO IN FEBRUARY. AND SO WAS THIS YEAR’S VEGAS SHIT. AND THEN. AND THEN. My friend did some research and there was apparently this little known/barely talked about article (or at least barely talked about that i’m aware of) about liam taking a TRIP TO THE MALDIVES IN FEBRUARY 2016… which coincidentally (or not lol considering these shady ass hoes) is also around the same time he got his 4 tattoo (I believe this was the first article, or at least one of the first articles, that mentioned the tat’s debut) 

BUT WAIT. 

THE INSANE SHIT DOES NOT END THERE FOLKS.

GUESS WHICH MONTH THE CARTIER BRACELET FIRST DEBUTED?

FUCKING FEBRUARY 2016.

specifically on liam’s wrist in preparation for the 2016 brits (photo posted to his brits stylist’s ig on feb 23rd). and he didn’t take it off till like june.

so. quick timeline:

february 2016 - maldives trip and debut of liam’s 4 tattoo (around feb 21st); debut of cartier bracelet via liam (feb 23rd); (there was also that valentine’s day roses pic liam posted feb 14th of this year which was quite interesting considering he and c hadn���t even been officially announced as a “thing” yet…ofc we know it still got retroactively attributed to her anyway but whatever, we all know who it was really for lol 😏)

february 2017 - i don’t have anything on this year, partly cause i stopped paying as close attention due to heavy ramping up of stunts, although if anyone has more concrete info on this period that hints at anything please do hit me up and i will add it in, but anyway just based on a little light research there does appear to be a good period of inactivity from both of them during this time (as in both of them had quite a bit of time in february where they were pretty inactive on sm, not being papped, and essentially mia and would have potentially had time to go on a private trip) - UPDATE: HOLY SHIT I CANNOT BELIEVE I FORGOT ABOUT THIS BUT THIS IS THE YEAR LIAM SHOWED UP AT THE BRITS WITH THE MOTHERFUCKING 25 ON HIS JACKET AND FUCKED SIMON ALL THE WAY UP BY SWERVING ON HIS UGLY BITCH ASS SPEECH IN FRONT OF GOD AND ENTIRE WORLD (and i think also thanked zayn in his speech if i’m not mixing that up with another year??) - all on feb 23rd to be specific.

february 2018 - ZIAMI OBVIOUSLY (which specifically started feb 22nd, or at least that’s the day i’m counting it as ‘started’ cause it’s the day liam joined zayn in miami, can’t recall the exact day zayn arrived but pretty sure it was only a couple days before that)

february 2019 - zayn starts wearing this distinctive fishhook earring in all his ig pics, which on the surface seems like a pretty small thing, but quite possibly commemorates their famous august 2014 fishing trip (directly after which he also started wearing a fish hook pendant on a necklace back in 2014); this was also another period they were pretty quiet/mia as far as i can recall, although again if anybody has more concrete info from this time that could point to something please let me know, but anyway point being they again would have had a good chunk of time to possibly go on a private trip together

february 2020 - VEGAS BABY

ofc i’m sure you all will notice one year was left out - february 2015 they were on tour with no breaks coming anytime soon so they obviously weren’t able to go on a trip that year. BUT. february 14th 2015 (aka valentine’s day lol) is also the day liam was famously papped with some small shopping bags that looked suspiciously but precisely like the type that usually come from a jewelry store, and then later that same night they had a performance (for otra tour) where we have zayn pictured wearing a new gold bracelet (as in he hadn’t been seen wearing it ever before on tour or anywhere else) - btw the op of this linked post actually marks this day as the debut of the cartier bracelet but there’s a lot of counter speculation that it’s not and given that it doesn’t quite look like the cartier bracelet looked in later pics (it’s more round and more gold than the cartier bracelet which imo looks more angular and more kind of a two-tone/silvery-gold than this vday bracelet) i’m inclined to lean more towards it just being a regular but still very sweet vday-gifted bracelet. but anyway back to more important stuff. now considering this was literally just a little over a month before zayn left - and one of my theories for zayn leaving was that it was possible he felt it was the only way to save his relationship with liam…i mean if they were still giving each other vday presents they were clearly still VERY in love at this point. like that’s not the kind of thing you’d expect from a couple that was on the rocks and on the verge of breaking up and i know a lot of ppl (myself included for a brief minute) speculated that zayn leaving the band meant he maybe left liam too/or things weren’t working out b/t them or whatever, but given this context of the vday gifts just a few weeks before him leaving that doesn’t really line up…what does line up though is him being so in love and so sick of the bs that he might be driven to just be done with it all (as far as the stress of the band and mgmt bs is concerned at least). and ofc liam did say that zayn is the most emotionally impulsive/emotionally driven out of all them so when you think about it it really shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise…

anyway, in conclusion: 

it appears quite possible ziam has made it a couples tradition (ever since that first honeymoonish vacay in 2014) to go on some sort of trip/getaway together around the end of every february (or at least do something special together/for each other when they can’t) and in further conclusion I AM NOT OKAY AND WILL NEVER BE OVER THIS REALIZATION OKAY THANKS BYE 😭😭😭😭😭🌈🌈🌈

omg YES i love carrd making hi anon. if there’s anything specific u want just lmk!! under the cut bc its long... i make most of my carrds on desktop so this is very desktop based.... to all of u who do ur carrds on mobile honestly kudos i cld never

uhm also when i say long like this is v long bc i added a lot of reasoning to my settings n tips that i’ve picked up on making carrds (plus the screenshots) i hope it helps tho ^_^ apologies if u knew most of this stuff tho bc i explained... everything...

some notes before we get in: for colors i usually just base everything off the sidebar image and use a color picking website (i use this one) to get the the html codes for colors. the site i use also generates a palette which i also use! ur free to use anything tho obv. the font i used is “inter” 

1. ok first here are my page settings! i wont include my animation settings now ill leave that to the end.. these r rlly the only settings that i’ve changed so i’ll just post these.

ok i dont rlly change much except for these two, the position is set to top not center (which is the default) b/c esp w carrds like the one i have now i dont like the header portion moving depending on the height of the container underneath... does that make sense? that’s just super nitpicky of me LOL but if u do end up making the carrd n playing around w the settings u’ll see what i mean

the width is set to 22 bc i like small carrds! play around w this as u see fit, i also change it depending on how it looks like in mobile (im very thorough lol) if ur wondering how u can do that on desktop, its this phone looking icon on this bar on the top right of the screen: (the 6th icon!)

the next pic is also default settings except my spacing is set to 0. i’ll explain why later! the alignment also doesnt really matter w/ this carrd. u can play around with it tho!

2. this is for the home page!

first i’ll explain how this is set up: the title box and the box under it (i’ll call it info box) are both containers! here is why i put set the spacing to 0 earlier: if u put 2 containers theres going to be space btwn them and to achieve this kind of look (ig) i just set the page spacing (in the page settings) to 0. however this means that everything is going to be pressed up against each other so i usually just add dividers (which are transparent [color code is #96969600]) i wont post a screenshot bc the settings r default, except for the margins which u can play around with to see what works for u (it’s set to 0.375 for me rn)

here are my settings for the title box 

most of these r pretty standard except for the padding and border. the reason why i didnt tick the bottom part is bc of the container w all my info underneath. both containers have borders so the bottom & top border of those containers wld just merge n create a thicker border which isnt what i was looking for... anyway.

then i just add a text element & just write my title! idt my settings for that r relevant so i wont add it (the text size is 0.875)

next is the info box! here are my settings: 

btw this is a container with columns!! those can look p wonky on mobile so make sure to have these settings on so that they wont look awful on mobile!!

oh also i wont post a screenshot of my text settings (text size is 0.75 + line spacing is 1.25) if ur wondering how i changed colors for some of the text the format is basically just [text]{#color} 

for the image size i set the width size to full (or full column) that depends on u (and how much text u put in the info part) i just prefer how it looks like when the image width is set to full bc that way no part of the image is cut off... really depends on u and what image ur using though so just play around w/ it!!

and in terms of spacing, i have a divider on top of the title box b/c otherwise the whole thing is just too high up for my taste

ok now to explain the header part and how i got my title/info box to stay “fixed”

so... im ngl. i dont understand how the header function works (help) so uhh i wont go as into detail here. but what worked for me is adding a header marker (the plus thing on the bar > control > change section break to header marker) right after the info container, then adding a section break (this one is called #wala bc wala here means ‘nothing’ in bisaya lol) and a transparent divider right after it. i hope its visible in the pic... anyway this is the only method i found that makes the carrd work lmao. it rlly doesnt matter what u name the #wala section break bc its not gonna show up so u might as well just use a keysmash

3. the extra info!! (extra, interests, byf)

this section will b shorter compared to the first two LOL anyway. first i started off w a section break (#usa which means 1 in bisaya hehe), then a transparent divider for spacing, and then a container! theres nothing fancy abt this container it has the exact same settings as the info box above so u can just duplicate that container and change the container type from columns to default.

then just add ur info and ur done!! repeat w whatever extra info u want to add (i only had 3 to add so it looks like this for me)

4. oh before i forget, these are my animation settings!! (page > the triangle thing)

u can preview the on load animation by clicking the triangle button on the top right bar, but for the on section change animations u have to save then preview it on ur carrd itself :/ kinda annoying but yeah... i usually never set anything above 0.5 seconds for on section change animations bc im impatient LOL 

these r completely optional tho... i just think animations make the carrd look smoother & more fun!

thats it i think! here are some tips i have

1. this tip is abt how carrds can differ when on mobile! i sometimes fiddle around with the mobile settings to make sure my carrd looks the way i want it to on mobile! bc mobile sometimes fucks up the spacing and it annoys me LOL... example here: 

u can find these settings if u scroll down a bit on the page settings and switch mobile from auto to manual (like in the screenshot) most of the settings i dont touch except the size setting, i just fiddle around w it and see how my carrd looks in the mobile view until im satisfied

2. this isnt rlly necessary but its smthn neat i picked up! if u check ur section break settings and check hide footer u can get rid off the “( made with carrd )” text on the bottom! i think it just makes the carrd look a bit neater, esp since the page spacing is set to 0 so it might look a little squished under the container...

3. i like to use all elements of my carrd efficiently (ig? heres the engineering major jumping out) and idk if u noticed, but if u click on the title (”it has always been once for me”) or the image (which is... of tbz..) it actually takes u back to the home page ^^ idk i just think small things like that r neat
