when you first started dating John he had told you, very sorrowfully over dinner, how his wife had recently passed and how broken up he was about it. it made your gentle heart bleed for him, this poor widower all alone. but he said he was ready to start again. and he wanted that to be with you. something about you had struck him straight through the heart like cupid’s arrow. something about you was so good, so special.

things are going really well and eventually he asks you to move in with him. it’s a little bit soon but hey, you like the guy, right? maybe sometimes he can be a little bit strict with his boundaries, but you’ve met guys that were worse. more controlling. and he’s not that, he’s too sweet for that. too good. always buying you nice things, taking you to nice places, acting as the perfect gentleman when you’re out together and the perfect animal when you’re alone.

so you move in. and you’re seeing his house for the first time. it’s out in the country, and is much like a regency era estate, old and austere. it’s somewhat smaller than a regular manse but still spacious.

now he’s giving you a house tour across this absolutely gorgeous but somewhat rundown manse.

you arrive upstairs to tour the guest bedrooms — one notably with a bassinet already inside. how sad. you think of his past, of what he may have lost. but he’s only thinking of the future with you as he ushers you into the next room.

once you get to one of the spare rooms you find a complete mess. bookshelves broken and toppled over, papers strewn about the room. you see that he’s freshly painted over the walls. white on top of red.

“redecorating?” you ask, smiling

“This was my previous wife’s favorite room, before she left.”

“oh,” you say. “I thought you said she died?”

“yes, but she had tried to leave first.” “Oh.” you say again.

Something about the too-sterile fresh white paint and the disheveled state of the room and the intense stare from the man who’s immense figure presses behind you, trapping you in this confined space, makes it all settle in at once, prickling as the hair stands on the back of your neck with the realization— he killed her, didn’t he?

Yes. But he’s not going to kill you. Not if you’re good.

Not if you stay.

Danny is gravely injured by the GIW, his voice box is severely damaged.

Making use of his own voice is impossible, but through some ghostly means Danny doesn’t quite understand, he can mimic others voices he hears just fine.

It’s a ghostly ability he found out he had a few years ago, with just a sentence or two heard he can do a flawless impression of that person. Now it’s not so flawless. The mimicked voice warps and fluctuates pitch, it’s crackly and he has a hard time not switching between multiple voices with every sentence he speaks.

His voice is reduced to an uncanny frankenstined attempt at speech that activates the average persons fight or flight response.

It’s no surprise that Superman is startled when he calls out for survivors while freeing the ghostly captives and a “not a deer” version of his own voice responds back.
